28/11 - Epi 397 ... All For Khushi, Khushi For All - The Raizadas

Wednesday 28th November '12

Khushi learns to say No all right ... but her mad family is not ready to hear it LOL
So they all work on Khushi's soft heart ... individually, by turns ... and Khushi almost gives in to each one ... Arnav the Wicked is there to stop her from giving in to her soft heart and his mad family's emotional blackmail ... and Khushi ends up refusing everyone ...

Next day, Amrita gets a fake husband ... Jai catches her out ...

Arnav calls Khushi (who's looking drop dead gorgeous ... I actually caught my breath when she came on screen) ... and tells her he's always there with her, supporting her, loving her. Even if he can't be there with her physically.

Amrita gets caught out on stage by Jai ... disqualified from round, not from show ...
Natasha knows her husband much better than he knows her ...

Arnav starts worrying that Khushi took him a bit too seriously and said No to everyone ...

He needn't have worried ... Khushi's soft heart and the love she shares with his madcap family ensures that she will never be alone ... the whole family turns up to be with her. And they show how well they all know Khushi and she knows them ...
Again a great build up to the proposed end of Arnav having an accident and his whole family being there to support Khushi ... but ... oh well Ouch

The final question ... what can Khushi not live without?
NK answers 'food' ... Pretty close ... but what Khushi really can't live without is her pyaare pati ...

And a final Rabba Ve ...

Hey all ... I have house guests this weekend starting today, and a very hectic few days lined up ... will make the post for Friday, but will update both this and the last episode only on Sunday, I think ... won't have the time before that.

From Tuesday, I plan a series of posts on favorite scenes of IPKKND, hope you guys will join me on those.

EDIT ... Finally editing episode posts for Wednesday and Friday ... with thanks to Devi Maiyya ... she obviously knew this was going to happen this weekend, and hence she planned such a hectic weekend for me that I could detox from the show

Episode
Khushi grumbles about her autocratic LG and his lessons. which have put her in such a pickle ... the problem of saying 'No' to everyone she loves.

Nani arrives to comfort her, pamper her, understand her dilemma ... umm, not really Nani is here to promote her own candidature as chief cheerleader   Khushi starts to agree ... yes, Nani is the eldest, it's her right ...Nani waits with anticipation ...
NO ... One look from Arnav ... and poor Khushi has to repeat the lesson newly learned ... No, Nani, you can't ...

Grumbling again, this time to Devi Maiyya about her dilemma ... please, Devi Maiyya, give him just a little bit of sense ... SN - I cracked up at this one! Give him sense!!!
Anjali arrives ... filled with love and affection for her dear bhabhi Khushi, how they are a lesson for all nanad-bhabhi's, the ideal NB pair ... and of course how good they will look on stage together ...
Khushi ready to agree ... one look from Arnav and the lesson again ... NO ... you can't come ... because my kismet is bad ... translated to mean - I have a dictator husband who's bent on giving me unpleasant life lessons at the worst possible time

Next candidate ... Dancing Mami ... Khushi closes her eyes quickly before Mami can make the inevitable speech ... and says NO again ... even more upset ...

She runs to her room to escape ... no escape, NK follows her there, ready with a prepared speech in shudh Hindi ... now can I come with you?
Of course you can ... how can Khushi refuse anyone? Arnav playing Narad muni Much to Khushi's complete dismay and annoyance ... he knows exactly how difficult this is for her! And he's not making it any easier! Quite the reverse.
Arav isn't to be left behind ... I love you ... Khushi moved ... he continues, now can I come with you?

Khushi looks at Arnav for help ... not happening ...
Why are you looking at me?! Say yes ... unspoken ... I know you can't say No ...
It's a challenge again, not one she wants to win ... but she has to ... and he's actually impressed that she did ...
Not that it stops her from showing her annoyance ... to him, of course ... Khushi can show her annoyance to Arnav, because he understands her so well ... you are mean! And she flounces off ... much to his amusement.

Khushi at the contest ... my breath hitched when I saw her, she was looking so beautiful ...
SN - why does she have just three blouses in total for all her sarees? Ouch
Worrying about being alone without her Mister, if he'd been there with her, we would have won without a doubt ... aww, poor Khushi ...
But when has it ever happened that she needed Arnav and he hasn't been there for her? So he calls ... 'I'm here ... maybe I can't be with you, walk hand in hand, claim you as my wife ... but I'm always with you ..'
And that's really all Khushi needs ...

Amrita very happy Khushi seems to be alone ... she seems to think Khushi is the only worthy competition for her ... methinks Amrita needs a reality check, is she worthy contestant at all?
Khushi sees Natasha and husband, both busy with their individual phones ...
Amrita has hired a husband ... who wants more money ... Jai overhears ...

Husband-wife round starts ... Amrita is caught out by Jai immediately ... exit from round, but not from contest ...
Natasha's turn ... she knows everything about her husband, but he knows nothing about her ...
SN - one thing I have to say about this PH, in one subtle scene, they manage to put in layers ... that explained why Natasha withdrew in the final round ...
While Arnav worries that Khushi took him a bit too seriously ... and called no one ...

Khushi's turn ... she walks on stage alone and Riya wonders if no one wanted to accompany her ... Wrong ... problem was different, everyone wanted to accompany her ... and they did
First Nani ... then Mami ... nope, Jai, not two ... but three, four, five ... all there for Khushi ... because she can't choose just one ...
And Arnav isn't surprised ...what else to be expected from his crazy but loving family?!
The question-answers start ... of course, everyone knows everything about Khushi, and Khushi knows everything about everyone ...
NK thinks Khushi can't do without food ... oops, wrong answer ... she can even do without food if needed, but not without her pyaare pati ...

And a final Rabba Ve ... as Khushi stares mistily at her pyaare Arnavji, and he smiles lovingly and proudly back at her ...

  1. dia, hi5! y breath hitched when she came on stage.. stunning! (actually, i was not expecting her to look good, considering the clothes she wore all week!)

and it was absolutely vintage IPK.. that nailbiting suspense, that adorable love, the gorgeous clothes.. all together for once..

sigh i'm gonna miss it SO much..

even knowing that there wont be an episode today, i switched on the tv at 8.. and was astounded and gleeful when it actually came!
this is gonna be such a difficult thing, breaking this IPK habit... :(

  2. I so hate these ppl !! why oh why they had to end it like this ... today episode was anti climax to the ASR not being there ...

    Shit loved today !
Arnav wants to be there but can't,
    hum rahe na rahe
    rahegi sadaa yahan
    pyar ki yeh dastaan
    sunenge sadaa jisse
    yeh zameen asmaan

Khushi alone, needing one to hold but gets the whole family.
She now the center, holding the family as NK says ~

I just hope they give us a good ending

    1. Don't hold your breath, Aaru ... I have a feeling they have not re-shot ANYTHING. They will give us exactly what they planned ... they might omit the accident, that's all. It will end with Khushi becoming Mrs. India and Arnav in the background.

What a pathetic end to such a beautiful show ... just because a "BUNCH OF PEOPLE" demanded No Barun, No Show. They got what they wanted to the T -

That's why they say, be careful what you wish for - you might get it. The PH would have taken it another couple of months, Viraf would have been the support, Khushi would have supported the family ... and we could have had a decent ending with her remaining faithful to Arnav's memory, and taking his place - BUT for the hysterical fans!

I'm surprised Sanaya only called them a BUNCH OF PEOPLE ... I am thinking of a lot more names, none of them complimentary!!!

    2. how can she be crowned Mrs India? this is not their finale.. is it? it is just another round. and we have only one more episode, nani, anjali and aarav are yet to be questioned.

    6. Krish ... no logic, remember?!!! A Mrs. India contest with the audience consisting of the chief sponsor, two judges who were also on the selection committee, and the so-called organiser, who has done nothing to organise, but just sat around with the judges ... kya phatichar Mrs. India contest hai!!! Am glad Khushi got some decent outfits for the finale ... the blue gown and today's saree. Small mercies ... varna wouldn't have been surprised if they made her win in one of her rainbow colored Anarkalis!!!

    7. Dia, i'm not talking logic, just time constraints... i'm wondering how they are going to pull it off, all in one day. and i really feel bad for that vikranth guy, the other organiser. they have a few canned shots of him wearing different suits which they play once or twice. even sam was not there today. i like sam ;)

    8. True, and considering that yesterday and today they had so much of family ... with Sanaya off, they could have shot some more rounds with the other participants or something to make it look authentic ...

I felt that had planned a small track around Riya Jai too ... they were an interesting couple, and decent actors. And original plan might have been to spend another few days on the contest, with just the canned shots of Arnav sitting in his chair with his beaming smile ... and next week show the end of the contest and Arnav's accident. Now they rushed it all as the channel pulled the plug so abruptly.

I really wonder what was the factor that pushed them into this decision?! Sheer bloody mindedness because of the hounding by fans? Barun still seems to be on good terms with SP - going by the tweets of that Rajan guy.

    9. J,

      This is exactly my wish!!

As it is i am not having nice feeling that he is a sponsor..but more than that....wasn't this all about proving she is comfortable in his world....which she is even while using her own methods....

      Dia,

this matter of hysterical fans demanding a show to be shut and a leading GEC bending to it reeks of a cop out of the worst kind...that these fans and whatever their number having this much power over a channel makes me see red.....is business conducted like this with faceless people demanding things and mediums acceding to it...strange....very strange.

I would credit SP with far greater business sense than that...if they have decided to shut it...its has to be for a diff reason...
for me IPK had hit a low trough in terms of plots, (case in point: the boy aarav can't imagine San playing mother to him, (no offence to mothers in AD, i am one too) but unless the boy has a purpose to be there, i can't accept expedient plots. To me, BS or no BS the only way forward for the serial was to have a short break and come back with San and new actor and start their new innings...I do expect SP to behave like a big boss here...else what was the whole point of this.....

their red tag may have served various purposes and we can all keep guessing but the channel is not a leading channel spreading its wings in international shores for nothing...

      Delete
    10. Aaru, I feel that SP had decided to end it for sure ... maybe the ending envisaged was the one you and I both discussed - Khushi taking over the reins of the family and holding it together. And I wouldn't be surprised if they had planned just a shortened version of Tum Bin, with Viraf playing the support system, no more ... and end with Khushi becoming Mrs KASR in every sense of the word.

But I think with the experience of the Sheetal track, which fans didn't give a chance to, the channel decided that even that would not work, and the nuisance value for the next 2-3 months would drive them crazy, without giving them any gain. So pull the plug ... with LM already talking about a fresh story, I do feel that SP does plan to bring a love story back in this slot, this has been the most successful show, the first to give solid takkar to BV, and of course the international fame. BS will not be available, but Sanaya is very much there, and she has her share of international fans and name too ... besides, channels hardly ever repeat jodis, and especially with Arhi, there would be constant comparison.

Even with Sanaya, there would be constant comparison with Arhi ... so I wonder whether they will take the alternative of going for a fresh pair altogether.
The flip side is that they already have two fresh jodis, neither doing all that well - PKDH and Khamoshiyan, and the Behna show has one jodi which is quite popular with two old actors but a new pair - Viren-Jeevika. So hopefully Sanaya will be back soon with a new actor. Plus she has been a great ambassador for SP, especially in the UK - she is smart, intelligent and can hold her poise in public. SP will take all that into account, as IPK has given them this huge new push into their international market.

      Delete
    11. Dia,

San is SP's best chance for that articulate female lead for international shores...so I am sure this kali thing is a stop gap..
San has the talent to slip so effortlessly into a role that she can make people forget wat she was doing last...when she is on screen.I am sure none of u remembered Gunjan when she was Khushi...thats her ability....

Well, even i was upset at Sheetal_arnav sunset walk.....becos it would have killed the essence of the ARHI story...becos i saw this as an ASR story with a K centricity(ok, whatever was left of it, in any case) ofc i would have jst stopped seeing becos according to me thats the only thing a viewer can do....

So seeing a Sarun ending is perhaps a closure of kinds...(my bhatakthi atma can never be satisfied becos i wanted to see a diff IPK....sigh)

    12. Dia,

SP must have pulled the plug because of all the negative attention the show was garnering for their channel. The show and all associated had begun to be in the news for all the wrong reasons. The channel was beginning to look weak with all teh ragging across news channel and on all forums. They had to make a stand.
Plus like Rekha said the story points of recent times being shown though having a point eventually were quite weak in the initial stages. It was getting tougher for audiences to keep hanging on, they were doing it for Arnav and Khushi and once the news of Arnav not being around hit that really rocked the boat. SPL was the deadline.

Sanaya I am sure will get a wonderful show from Star next. She has proven she is a fine actress, been professional and like you said is an international face of the channel. They took her to the UK twice already.

Yes comparisons will initially be there but she will mould herself to the new role and go onto new strengths.

All for the best! Perhaps this sudden end and a story untold still leaves a wistful romaticism rather than having to see some precious moments destroyed for whatever reasons for the audience.

But for me I feel a tad empty for this SKD has seen me through many a difficult AD and now when AD is better sadly my SKD will not be around - perhaps that was what was intended! like an R&R comment said the SKD perhaps was a precursor to AD :)

      "Hai Dhoop Sa WOh Agar
      Woh Chaandni Raat Si Hai
      Mil Paaye Kabhi Donon
      Kya Teri Ismein Hai Razaa
      Tu Hi Bataa Mere Maula
      Tu Hi Bataa Mere Rabba!"

    13. Sandy - that's wonderful news of your AD becoming better! SKD served its purpose and got you through the tough times - smooth sailing in AD from now on and always.

      Delete
    14. Sandy, good to hear that your AD is better ...that's most important! Shows will come and go ... real life is for ever! And can't take 'breaks' in real life either :)))

I'm not really sad about the show ending ... I felt the Arhi story was over and done with, the PH had definitely lost interest, whether because of channel pressure or because of having to accommodate Barun's leave, or their own general bankruptcy of ideas (Opti's view) .. or a combination. I'm just annoyed that because of all the uproar about Barun leaving, we have been deprived of a decent ending ... it's going to be all rushed and disjointed now ... the last week will not even have Arhi together in the same frame. So much for ending the show with Arhi together! And the shock of the suddenness of it all.

So what has really been achieved by all this hoopla and drama about save the show, save Arnav Khushi?

One - all said and done, disjointed or not, we've gotten a happy ending. In our SKD, Arhi live happily ever after. Although I would have been game to watch Khushi recover from the loss and learn to face the world, it would have been a tough watch, even more so because Sanaya is so damn good at these emotional scenes, she would have made us cry every tear with her. And the show would have ended in two months with a strong Khushi ... but a lonely Khushi. I strongly doubt that she would have a new romance in just two months. So in effect a much sadder ending, although a bit of Nayi Soch would have crept in.

Secondly, I still don't have faith in the PH to have done any justice to Khushi's character, even after Arnav's death. And if they had shown her being OTT or flippant, it would have been ridiculous, and I can't put it past them to have done exactly that. Khushi is memorable not because of the scripting of her character, but despite it. Don't know if that would change for two months - I am very convinced the show was planned to be on air only till the new SLB show was ready to take over the slot.

Like Sandy said, maybe SPL woke up the SP honchos to the fact of how big Arnav and Khushi are and that it was a losing battle to expect the audience to allow Khushi to move on without him. In which case, why bother to waste time on a losing battle. Besides, already IPK has had a lot of negative publicity, the other actors leaving, Gautam leaving ... the lack of interest of the PH is very evident. Can they even be trusted to give a decent two months more?

One theory floating around is that SP shut the show because they want to slot Sanaya into the new SLB show coming up on SP, so they want to give her a break before that one starts. Apparently Jennifer Winget has left that show.
Don't know if that is true, but Sanaya has become a brand ambassador of sorts for SP international, she is in contract with them, they will definitely not allow her to sit idle. If not this show, another one seems highly likely. So a combination of the two reasons.

  4. SP has decide to move on...
BS has decided to move on...
PH has decided to move on...

This drama has been too much for me, I think I should choose to ignore all the off screen drama. IPK ending would have been heart breaking whichever way it came...with all this mudslinging, well this is real life- it is never perfect.

Therefore I would like to hang on to the reel drama and remember IPK for all the happy moments it gave me.

A huge 'all the best' to Barun from the bottom of my heart. I am not really expecting to see much of him in telly after this.

And since Sanaya is still bound to SP, this is my SKD:

I hope LM comes with the new concept with Sanaya and Viraf... I'd love to see Sanaya soon in a new show- and I don't trust any of the other SP PHs to do justice to her talent. Plus, I want to see her with Viraf.

    Bring it onnnnn...

SHIDDAT to that one!!! But please let PH realise from their mistakes with Barun, and keep the show Sanaya-centric ... she has proved to be FAR more reliable and committed - besides, she wants to stay with TV, there is no chance she will ditch and walk off for a movie!

    2. i too want to see more of sanaya. but may not be as a extension of kushi. what is it they can show with kushi? it is proved that LM can give us good story (if only they had freedom with storyline) so i want to see new story with sanaya with a new find (actor) or anyone.. just a good story.
i was talkign with my mom yesterday about waht barun can do next.. it is hard for him to come out of his ASR image. i was watching his old series (baat hamari?) and he looked like a kid and immature there.
he need a new image to be successful.. less serious. *me think*

    4. True S ... Sandy mentioned yesterday, and even the producer of the show said the same thing ... Sanaya has proved her versatility ... she has done all shades in her role as Khushi. Barun will have more trouble getting out of the ASR image and proving his worth in light roles ... which are actually more difficult to carry off. Bedroom eyes, he's got that nailed.

And yes, can he please take diction classes during his break?!

    5. I agree with all of you. I would love to see Sanaya Irani in an author-backed role in the near future. There is so much more that she can offer. As for Barun Sobti, he will still be Arnav Singh Raizada for me for some time. He really needs to do something amazing to get my attention again (his movie does not interest me at all!).

    6. also during the star pariwar shows he anchored, i am not sure he is being arnav more or barun. he is clearly not comfortable with spontaneous acting like sanaya. everything he did sounded reharsed. i love his comedy in the new year eve episode.. but that is more of chemistry with akash and the situational comedy. give him goofy stuff to do and i wonder what he will do.. sanaya can rock any type
i saw few scenes of his movie.. hope it is good.

    11. i watch telugu version too. but i hate it when they remove the lyrical version of bgms. when there is a eye lock scne, it starts with instrumental and vocals of rabba ve songs.
intially they replaced those songs with some yucky movie songs.. now the dubbing makers realized i guess and not doing that. however, they start with instrumental, when vocal comes, they re-start the instrumental breaking the rythym of the scene .. i HATE it.

for me, the scenes elevated a lot with wonderful background. the songs (lyrical) anjali-arnav's 'mere ankhon me tu muskuraye', sad and happy rabba ve, after marriage, 'kyon ankhon me' (sad rabba ve).. so much so that i have a CD cut with all my fav. bgms of this.

  5. So one more episode to the final countdown. Loved today's episode. Both Arnav and Khushi love their family to the max - Arnav doesn't show it but Khushi is emotional. Arnav can be detached from them but Khushi can't breathe without them. Today's episode was such a good one pointing out the differences between Arnav and Khushi's ideologies. It is like they are Ying and Yang. Neither can survive without the other and both compliment each other.

Loved the small bit of tension evident on Arnav's face when Khushi's walks alone to the stage. He thinks Khushi took his words seriously but he is relieved when he first sees Nani come in and then his surprise keeps on getting bigger when all his family members come in to support Khushi. And loved the dialogue about mad family.

One thing that is very evident is the growth of Arnav in the show. Arnav who was not even on good normal talking terms with his family earlier now appreciates them and enjoys their company with all his heart. The serial actually really traced the growth in Arnav damn good. The way Arnav was shown as someone who was firmly enslaved in the past and now with Khushi's love he was broken down the past shackles and is now actually enjoying the life that he has with the loving family by his side. Definitely this one character has been indeed written well and kudos to Barun to rise above the character sketch. Few people are able to do it.

One gripe I always will have with this show is the way Khushi's character has been butchered beyond recognition time and again. And PH are you kidding me. The blouse that she wore today is again the Haldi wala blouse. Man how many times are you going to make SI wear the same blouse. I think in the whole serial time span Sanaya had only 3-4 blouses. Hai re Nandkishore. The PH has milked the serial for every bit of money but didn't care enough to make the leads look decent. Khushi was shown as a feisty girl but with golden heart. I was expecting them to show her bloom into Mrs.Arnav Singh Raizada who can hold her place among the high class society that Arnav belongs too. Neither did they show her becoming independent. They got her dabba business in the beginning then on KC they again mentioned dabba business but in the end they chose Mrs.India contest? I have no idea why they took this route. But anyways.

PH said they had no story left. There is so much left to explore on Khushi's character alone. And the PH has royally ignored the Guptas, and Payash. And given that this story was actually about a brother and sister finding true love - they completely left out Anjali after Shyam. They could have shown Anjali moving on in life with love from her family and becoming independent and maybe meeting someone down the lane. But nope. Anjali has been reduced to being a permanent member of RM who does nothing but stays in the house. One improvement if you can say so, is they have stopped showing Anjali with a pooja thali. In that sense Anjali's character at least has a growth to it but sorry to say I don't know what growth I was supposed to see or expect for Khushi.

I really feel bad for the cast and crew. Just today was reading that for MB's shooting both Vivian and Dhrasti got 3-4 days leave. Even DABH cast had leave it seems. That was possible because the PH had shoot already a bank of episodes. No matter how good the set atmosphere is, when you slog around 12-14 hours a day on the sets, you need to have breaks for refreshing. Today's whole episode was Sanaya's BD and even Arnav's were canned shots. I don't think the PH is shooting the end. Rather they are going to go ahead with the same shots they canned before Sanaya and Barun took off to London and just going to edit the accident scene.

    continued in next post

  6. The PH had so many side tracks they could have used to cover the screen time but they kept on the whole focus only on ArHi leading to both Barun and Sanaya shouldering most of the work. Payash could have been such a beautiful track but all they could get was bubbly track. They could have gone with how Payal adjusts to Mami, Heck they could have gotten an ex for Akash just so that Payal can show her authority on him. I really feel bad for Akshay and Deepali and don't blame them for leaving the show in middle.

Same goes for Gupta house. After marriage they have completely forgotten the Gupta house. I especially loved the Buaji - Arnav bond. They could have explored the Gupta family bonding. Hell the actor who was playing Shashi must have been feeling like a sucker. Bechara he was on wheel chair for 1 yr and in the end also no one is going to know how and why he ended in a wheel chair. So all in all there were very good tracks but the PH being non-interested has lead to downfall of this show.

Word of advice to PH:- You have all your shows wrapping up in the next 2 months. IPK is out and so is Arjun going to wrap up by Jan mid it seems. Surveen may too wrap up so you are left with only QH. Do recoup, take rest, enjoy producing only that one show for sometime and then please decide your future action. Quality always is more important than quantity. And this time around do plan around the whole of the cast.LM's word of them coming with a new serial should be taken with a pinch of salt. LM was able to create magic or so only with SARUN and not in Phir subah hogi which tells that he does need good actors to get the chemistry across the screen.

For Barun and Sanaya:- I do hope you both get your much needed break from this show. You were wonderful and both of you are power houses of talent. I do wish you come back on TV in a new show as soon as possible but for your sake I do wish you take a minimum break of 5-6 months before you sign in a new project. The reason is the expectations from you are skyhigh due to IPK performances. So enjoy the break and come in new shows. I am fan of both of you and hopefully would enjoy your future serials and you will continue to entertain me.

For what all it's worth - this serial indeed was a class apart. Thanks to the crew and cast for making the serial a memorable experience. I am watching the rerun on the telugu channel and even though I know the story, I can tell you I am enjoying seeing the episodes again and again. That was the magic of IPK in the beginning. Just wish the ending was not this pathetic.

So will meet for the last episode discussions.

    2. Sarada... i am watching the telugu version as well..and the thought at the back of my head is..gosh what an end this show is meeting with....

at least i can re-watch some of my favourite scenes..tomorrow i will watch the hospital hug..in telugu..the scene that made me watch the show in Hindi...

Oh this show will be missed...

    3. Anita,

Me too. Looking forward to the episodes now in telugu. The hospital hug was classic and actually all the episodes in the beginning till the marriage and also part of the hate marriage were done tastefully and the magic was top notch. I think after the SPA the PH really didn't know how to handle the show's immense success and fans constantly demanded ArShi only. So there you go. The downfall started and the PH lost interest. Sigh. I will enjoy the last episode with no expectations.

    4. Sarada, very true! This PH just does not know how to handle their cast after the initial few months, IPK is a story of wasted opportunities and lost tracks and a zillion loopholes. It kept our resident BBE busy for a year and a half till she couldn't keep pace with the bloopers any more!!! :)))

The story was always through Arnav's eyes and tracing his growth. It was a strong and very well-written character up until the first wedding ... after that, it did start losing its way. I think Barun is a director's actor ... he improved tremendously during the course of the show, of course he had a very strong backing from the script, and he delivered full justice to it. He has among the most expressive eyes in the business, I think. After the hate marriage, his character got diluted, and Barun's performance also became much more patchy.

As for side characters, don't get us started. Check the shiddats posts the last few months ... so MANY of our shiddats were about the parallel tracks, about the Guptas, Payal-Khushi, Arnav-Akash ... if we could think of so many, why could the cv's not do so, when it's their full time job?!!!

Anyway, lost cause ... I really don't want Sanaya to work with this PH again. Cinevistas is a better PH, they manage to give equal importance to all characters, and have a number of parallel tracks ... MJHT always had a good distribution of screen space, so did DMG. Other PH's make sure to build episode banks. Have different sets - not have to change the same room into Anjali's, then Arnav's then Akash's ... such a waste of time for all concerned.

No expectations ... I have already started re-watching the old episodes, they are still so much fun to watch.

    2. Ani, my favourite is the scene when Anji tells Arnav, that she saw Khushi a bit disturbed...watch BS ace that scene....that restless speech he gives and the way he checks himself on being asked by Anji....whooooo....that scene is a like a chap chuka hain....those were the times, i used to feel as if the story teller is telling me specially a story of this complex man whose world has turned upside down becos of a woman....

      Delete
    3. Such was the power of the narrative as if the story teller is actually talking to u and telling wat was in Arnav's mind even tho there were hardly any monologues for him... BS played those parts with great elan.....

      Delete
    4. that is something i observed, the monologues. Arnav rarely had monologues, unlike khushi or even shyam. and his monologues re iterated the same thing, "why does her tears affect me so much". rest all was so powerfully portrayed by the actor and the creative team. is this the first time on SP where a show was told completely from a the hero's point of view. a hero who was shown to have a dark side initially and now is going to end with him being a changed man, a better man because of that one woman, his soul mate...

      Delete
    5. it is really going to be hard for us to see BS as anybody else... ASR has become a synonym for him

    6. i know the scene you are talking about Rekhs..

another scene i absolutely love BS in is when Khushi fills his office with plants, he throws her out, sits in his chair, and then goes to get Lavanya back..that look of confusion when he sees Khushi cry..its like huh? why are you still crying..this is what you wanted, right?? i love him in that!!!

monologues...i never saw the need for monologues for ASR expect a few instances...it was portrayed really well...

      Delete
    7. Sigh....
I agree there was no need for monologues..Barun nailed every thing.
Like he himself said, the character was so well written- all he had to do was portray what was so clearly there on the paper.

I think he is a wonderful actor and will go places.

Sanaya is equally brilliant, if not more, but I guess she was sidelined by the PH, channel...barun's fangirls, the award committees...it is a man's world, I suppose.

But she was gracious about everything...even now I think I can still go on loving Barun thanks to the wonderful friendship between them- Sanaya helps me forgive him and understand him for the person he is.

Yes, I know there can never be another pair like them- they are like the SRK and Kajol of tellyworld...and for me, their chemistry was at its best in DDLJ.

So it will be with Sarun for me- I don't think even the same PH can repeat the success of Arhi with the same pair. The team just came together like magic and that was translated on the screen.(Though it beats me why it had to fall apart like this...may be this was better end than something untoward happening to any of them. I always thank god for small misfortunes- I believe they avert major disasters. 'Everything happens for the best.' Even this time when they went to UK I was praying that everything should go well...the flight, the trip, thefans...I don't know how or when I started loving the pair like they are my family.)

I am just so very happy that I got to be a part of this epic journey. This was a cult classic- will be described so in the years to come. And they gave us a good 1 1/2 years of entertainment.

      Delete
    8. exactly Ani, we never needed monologues from him...becos the scene was always written and directed and acted well...

      Krish,

I find two of my favorites in the creative team- NISSAR and HITESH KEVALYA...along with Gautam Hegde.

Well...Today.....my mind is a bit restless.....and i guess it will be on Friday too...
Can't belive i am saying this abot a fictional story..a story tat i have believed to have the power to be a cult classic...(just with a little more care) '
Despite that even in the most inance tracks, as J said the team was able to thread back things....obviously in our apprecation of the actors, sometimes the appreciation of the efforts of the team behind gets forgotten....the team that brought us IPK deserves all the kudos.

Today Redwine's post has written out abot her fav scenes in IPK...well there are many..One she has written is about "i hate you" the scene she says had the power of making that look like I love U....sch was the power of that scene, the dialogues...the direction, the camera angles, the settings and not to forget the great acting.....perfect harmony....

I am just sitting to jot down a small walk down memory lane.....if Dia opens a post for tommo, i will post it if ready else on friday post...i would request all of u to also do their fav scenes writeup or anything they wish to share abot, even the silent readers here....to make that last step of the ipk journey

    11. Su - just checked out a couple of MJHT scenes and had checked out MB earlier and at the cost of sounding biased - i relly think no couple can match up to Arhi! - Barun is def a better actor than Mayank - his eyes are far more expressive
And Sanaya - she is just too good - the MB chick, though she has huge eyes - they lack the brilliance of Sanaya - she can speak volumes with her eyes

makes me sad but i really do think the best acting team was not given the best - they could have done so much better!

    14. Mona,
No one can match up to Sarun- don't even think about it. I am talking about the second best here.

MB- I can't really blame drashti when the character has not been written well in this phase. Plus, you really have to love the character you are playing- the key to San's success.

Even when she feels Khushi is a little too much, there are things she loves about her character- it has been the best written role for an actress when I look at the other shows (other than BV- and Sanaya wouldn't want to play that.)that air currently.

Rekh, me too- checking out DC. I love the way they applaud the creatives even when being HAA. Every one gets their due.
And for me, I salute the team for coming up with this track in the face of impending doom- really, hats off to them. And they have still written Barun's character so well - he knows exactly what ASr is supposed to be feeling. Really, this team is magic!!!

I really hope they work together again. It will not be the same, because Gul will not repeat ASR and Barun will not want to play it- but it will still be the best thing to watch on television.

  9. lo! even after a year and a half the body doubles have not stopped being stiff and rock-ish!! so did not want to see the last few episodes with both leads shooting separately - the editing team must have been busy - all shots were joined later!

earlier ODB & G were always in character - to the T - now a days its a relief to see them so = liked the epi coz both were in ASR & KKG mode, perfectly there = no question about it
so its obvious - had the story continued, ASR would have died!

could not help thinking again - the PH had such strong actors - leads as well as supporting caste - and what did they do? neither use them well nor complete the story as they should have!!! - after the first marriage, it started going down but after the fizzled out BFTP, they just did not know what was to be done! - there was no followup on shyaam, on the guptas, on the payash track etc etc
Brings me back to what i was saying earlier - the team has to be 'committed' to the story !! - if they had a story to tell (like the fist 8-9 months), nothing could have stopped this play from continuing - without a story, the magic only lay in Arhi - so without the Ar in Arhi, the play failed!
So in my head - every team should commit to a story and stick to it - irrespective of the success they get - meaning they don't change it to suit public demand nor add to it if TRPs are high - as in keep it going by creating random tracks like the ekta K type - keep a couple apart for the flimsiest and most ridiculous reasons - then get them together then make the lead loose all his money and the girl help him get it back - then introduce another separation - then get the male married to a sister of the lead - then get the Heroine back and the sacrifice game to begin and .....

    3. Mona,at the end of the day, the PH AND Channel have both got to agree on committing to A story. By that I mean, no meanderings nor meaningless stretches to increase revenue base. Have a story line AND a committed time frame in which to show it, after which it is a wrap. It would really be a win-win situation all around, including for the actors, technical crew and viewers, and hopefully keep the freshness intact. Unfortunately when raking in the moolah gains importance, the story line and all parties connected in making the serial go for a toss. :(

      Delete
    4. Aki - exactly - the story has to be paramount - only then can actors made it legendary! arhi were def capable of more - they are like the toppers in a class- given them any assignment and they will ace it!

if our dear PH and channel teams had stuck to the story - i really doubt any actor would have walked out mid way

    5. On 4 Lions and this quitting business-it is funny. I don't know if they are deliberately pissing off people- I feel they are disorganised and don't know how to manage their cast all at the same time. I think it is just a case of people wanting to move on without creating a scene when they feel the lions are losing interest.

Though I wouldn't say the same about Barun- he wanted to quit at one of the turning points- when the leads were getting married. The story was good still at that point, so his reasons were different.

I wonder about GH quitting- did he foresee that it was all coming to this, when he knew about Barun quitting?

And did the SP cook spoil the broth?

I did not know people were still bashing Barun. I have stuck to Adda and DC - as of yesterday, adda seemed quiet and depressed, and DC was thrashing SP left, right and centre! Had fun reading DC yesterday. They are reliving their fav moments- the mood seems up beat there.

arnav refuse to marry kushi and kushi leaves house, goes to the train station and boards a train some where.. lands in nainital.

it brings back all sweet memories of their previous trip.. she first helps a hotel guy (this i think lifted from current bade acche..) who adopts kushi as his daughter and she resurrects the shop with her famous jilebis. she has twins (?)

arnav after some soul searching comes back for kushi but by then she left. he gets busy in his work. buying and selling constructions sites. want to take over a guest house in nainital.. in memory of the time he spent with kushi there.

anjali realized shyam, divorced him, became self sufficient.

when arnav comes to nanital for final signing, there is a party and guess what who got the catoring order.. with a spl request for sugerless jilebi.

kushi had a rabba ve moment hearing about the request.. arnav got a rabba ve moment eating those sugarless jilebis which are the speciality of a certain hotel run by a mysterious lady.

he comes to find out.. sees her from the sidelines how she is managing the house .. babies.. then burst into anger (again bade acche ..)

arm twists her to go with him.. custody battle .. jsut to make her come with him..

    i like this one too..

    3. Lovely take on Barun's stand of being silent. It would take a lot for a person to own up his fault and here Barun is being silent and taking flak from every side. That shows his integrity. I admire him as a person and whatever his reasons may have been to quit, one thing is for sure. He didn't want the show to end and neither did sanaya. He did shoot for his death scene and sanaya as well shoot some scenes with Viraf. So both were professional enough. Unfortunately the PH and the channel were not professional in the whole thing. Neither could bury their differences and give this show a fitting end. The Channel and PH after cashing everything of the lead actor literally threw him under the bus. I wish both barun and sanaya do move on from this and have good success in their future projects.

    1. Amen to that! I started watching the show for the chemistry between the leads. I have always been more fascinated with the character of Arnav Singh Raizada, I have to admit, it is such a complex and well written role. I don't know if Barun Sobti is aware of this fact but, in my opinion, it must be the role of a lifetime for him. And he did a fabulous job in portraying ASR but Barun Sobti as Arnav fails to impress me sometimes. I always see some mannerisms of Barun Sobti in that character. Anyways, Barun Sobti will always be synonymous with ASR for me for a long time. He really has to do another amazing role to get my attention again (his future movie does not impress me at all!). With regards to Sanaya Irani, she did not get the author-backed role. And the character of Khushi was sidelined and butchered through and through. And it is only because of the actor's portrayal that I still manage to find the character of Khushi so endearing. My only wish is that Sanaya Irani gets a well written role in the near future. And more than Khushi, I have become a bigger fan of Sanaya Irani, the individual and professional. I have never seen an actor with so much of energy ( it never ceases to amaze me that she is onscreen most of the time and still manages to look lively everytime) and dedication to her craft ( another actor that comes to mind is maybe, Shahrukh Khan, in terms of energy, I mean). I respect her for her professionalism which becomes so much more obvious in the light of the recent offscreen drama. In my opinion, Sanaya Irani is born to act, she is born to be an entertainer. And I know that she will only go from strength to strength in the future. There are only a few people that I look upto in life (and that will include only a couple of actors) but she has become one of my favorite people. Sanaya Irani, the human, inspires me. She has truly been grace under fire!

    2. This is what I wrote in the reply to the thread in IF. cut pasting the same here.

Sanaya didn't get her share of adulation as Barun did but you have to agree that Barun and Sanaya rocked as a team. And both were professional enough to do their work. Barun infact shot for his death scene before leaving for UK. He gave a 2 months notice to the PH and channel before hand and he did everything they asked him to. What more can you expect of him. I don't think Sanaya holds any grudge against Barun. Rather than Sanaya not working with Barun - I would love it if Sanaya never works with this PH. Wasn't it the same PH which said the story has run its course. Wasn't this the same PH/creatives which never gave any due characterization for Khushi and everything relating to Khushi was swept under the rug.

Barun wanted out. He gave 2 months notice. Why didn't the PH go for a leap in Arnav-khushi love story. They could have shown Arnav and Khushi's daughter and then could have killed both of them and taken a leap. Do you really believe that the outrage would have been this bad had they taken this route with Sanaya playing the grown up daughter and Viraf the new lead against her. Nope. It wouldn't have been. The way the PH was hell bent on making mockery of everything is what lead to this outrage and frankly if the people think SP pulled the plug due to Barun then they are severely mistaken. There were issues with the PH and the show was to be pulled out in 2-3 months. Barun going away and the phone calls just hastened the process. Had the PH given the Arnav-Khushi love story a due closure and move on in the story with a new lead and a leap I bet Sanaya would be still doing the show for another 6-8 months. If the show is going off and Sanaya is getting hurt professionally then I solely blame the PH and creatives for it and not Barun. Barun and Sanaya do compliment each other and I for one would love to see them again in a new show but at the same time I do hope the respective PH gives due weight to the lead's character. Sanaya not achieving the adulation that barun got was solely due to the bad characterization of the character on the part of the creatives and to a certain extent Gul. My honest 2 cents and I am a fan of both Barun and Sanaya.

And actually to tell the truth my favorite scene till now is the resignation scene and then comes the breakdown of Arnav during the Payash wedding track. I still can't figure out which one will rank as my most favorite scene but both are very close. Wish the PH paid that attention to the characters this serial would have been truly awesome.

    3. sarada, i can tell you in all honesty that i would have stopped watching if the creatives did something as cliche'd as a death and a time leap.

there is one reason i love this creative team... they are marvelous in creating onscreen chemistry in their (perfectly cast) actors.

the way arnav and khushi were introduced.. and described.. and accompanied... through the prewedding phase was truly sensational.

it is not the first time that an arrogant businessman met a moralistic girl.. it is not the first time that they locked horns... what made Arnav and Khushi a classic is the storytelling. i will defend them to hell and back... they were here to tell the story their way. if the fans and starplus did not allow them to tell that story, it is the audience's loss. and i will mourn that loss along with the creative team.. and i say creative TEAM, not just GK.
      --------------------------
today i saw the latest episode of QH.. yes, i follow it, not because i am loyal to 4L, but because I (me, personally) choose what i want to see. and in today's episode, zoya has programmed asad's phone so that he has to say the password imsorryzoya before he can answer a call.. and after a day of torture, he goes back to her, to ask her to remove the lock.. and she says, she thinks he needs to learn to say sorry.. so saying it 50 times would make it easier. and yet, looking like he would tear her to pieces, he refuses to say sorry.. the sparks were literally flying in that encounter.. and i am glad i caught that episode.

i love how every character has at least a line to say, like in the beginning of IPK.. if only the creatives learn to ignore the fanbase's advice, it could be another classic.
      -----------------------------
and i say this as an ardent fan of both barun sobti and sanaya irani.. i will not watch IPK if it takes one of the cliche's 1960's twists.

(i was really looking forward to garima's past and its efect on arnav... the way they had to gloss the whole BFTP killed the show for me...) and somehow, i agree with the sentiment in the 4L letter... starplus overrode out storyline, now we dont want to show another storyline.. if fans called starplus and told them to change the story, then fans tell us straight what story you want to see!! AND you have to see the pathetic cliche'd storylines that the fans wrote on that thread..

I for one, do not want to see an ekta style show. I am not in love with the actors, i am in love with the characters. i am very clear about that. so it was difficult for me to see the romanticization of arnav, as well as the insecurity of khushi.. so, in a way, i am glad to see the show end.

    4. Ayesha,

I ditto you on your feelings for both Barun and Sanaya. Barun had the author-backed role, and he did it complete justice, going even beyond the script many times in his portrayal. After the hate marriage, and especially after the kidnapping, his character was diluted, and I found Barun's performance slipping many times. For that I can blame the script and the actor equally - if he was not convinced, or if it was poorly written, it showed in his performance many times.
And for his personal looks, I fault only him, not the PH. For an actor, looks are an important part of the business, and if he did not maintain them, it shows a lack of professionalism and a certain disdain for his job and his fans both.

Regarding Sanaya ... again I agree with both Ayesha and Sarada to a large extent. With Ayesha ... Khushi has been probably the worst written female lead in recent times. Whenever the makers were unsure what to do, they used Khushi as a filler in comedy, inane scenes, anything ... The fact that Khushi as a character is so popular is credit to the actor to a much larger extent than to the script and the writers.
After MJHT when we were discussing whether this show would be good for Sanaya, someone had remarked that Khushi will only be Arnav's love interest, the main roles are Arnav and Anjali. I think the makers intended exactly that. But Anjali turned out to be an average actress, and Sanaya was unexpectedly brilliant in whatever they threw at her ... Khushi became far bigger than they had intended. Which was never their intention - for the makers, Arnav was the most important character. Every time Khushi had some serious scenes, she took over the show ... and to dilute that, they pushed Khushi into comedy and hid her emotional side. Time and again this happened. So I agree with Saada, and that is why I really don't want Sanaya to work with this PH until they have sorted out the importance of the female lead.

Will write more later if I have time!

    5. Ayesha and Dia, I think even if we won't stick with the leap/death track the TRP aunties would have definitely stuck around the show. I am saying the leap/death would have been a viable solution had the PH every intention of running the show with Sanaya alone with them. But it is very clearly evident that the PH didn't have the heart to run the show. No 2 questions on that.

Ayesha, actually lot was expected from Blast from the past track. But like Kernal had mentioned the makers read Gul overrode all the tracks and we had past which had dust thrown over it and forgotten in 1 episode. Now did Gul give into SP pressure at that time or did she intend to close off the show by Sept end/Oct mid as most of sources are saying we never know. But the point is that when you have hyped up a past sequence and given it a place from episode 1, IMO do justice to it. Give it a proper closure before you move on.

Dia is correct in that the story was always intended to be of Anjali and Arnav - 2 siblings who are entangled in a web of deceit by one person Shyam. The show was also intended to be called 'Di ki Saut'. Basic premise being 'A man who doesn't believe in love falls in love with a chirpy girl only to find out she is the other woman in his beloved sister's life'. But honestly Daljeet couldn't enact the role properly, she couldn't get the grey characters correct and Sanaya came into limelight because she was perfect foil to Barun's grey character. Both rocked the screen and that is why slowly DB's role was sidelined and the story came to settle more on Arnav - Khushi.

Gul conceived the characters good. But I have to say she sucks at maintaining the creativity and managing the show and sorry to say she has too big of an ego. Gul may have created ASR but it was barun's portrayal that got the character out of the paper and translated on the screen. I saw Kernal appreciating Barun/Sanaya for their wonderful performances in his posts on IF and also in interviews but I never saw Gul giving any share of recognition for both of the actors who gave life to the sketches she had. And Time and again she kept on killing the character Khushi. Like I still couldn't understand how could Khushi get Shyam back in RM after the Anjali miscarriage when she saw how he tried to kill Arnav and her. There were lot of such instances.

    6. Cont from previous post

Once a creative creates a story it is very imperative that they continue the same vision till they take it to end. Here the PH lost interest and by all valid sources they themselves wanted to close the show by Oct end because they wanted QH to take that slot. So everything was rushed and there was no proper closure to any loop opened. The situation became so bad that even GH who was with the show from the beginning quit. Now in this scenario do you think if Gul gets in a ASR killed/Tum Bin end will it go down well with the audience. I don't think so. The audience were watching the crap only because Barun/Sanaya were ArHi. I don't think Viraf coming in ASR's replacement would also have worked. So honestly SP did what they could and washed off the hands. When the PH itself is not wanting to give the show any decent track why should actors/Channel go the extra mile.

I think both Barun and Sanaya are better of with some other PH, a PH which doesn't lose the focus of the show when they have another upcoming show on board. This was once in a lifetime chance for the PH and Gul to translate a M&B book and give an amazing show. She got stellar cast, the concept was good, the promos got people hooked up from the day 1 and the chemistry between the leads was striking. She messed up too bad and the off-screen fiasco just dented her image and credibility. Blaming that Sanaya didn't get her due success due to Barun is very immature. That's why I don't want Sanaya and Barun to be working with this team ever again. In the end whatever anyone says, the show died due to PH lack of interest and lack of conviction and nothing else. I hold the PH alone as the responsible for this serial getting closed so abruptly.

    7. Thumbs up, J!

I am also enjoying QH though I know it will never be what IPK was to me. And I am simply not going to compare- it is not fair to compare between shows from the same PH.

QH is the most watchable show for me right now, even though I don't get to watch it regularly due to the timings.

For those who don't mind watching another excellent show from 4 lions...check this out:

      http://www.india-forums.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=3273066

Even if you all are disappointed with the PH, try reading this. Don't miss out on a good show.

      Dia,
I don't agree that Khushi was not the main character when the show was conceived.

Sanaya clearly said in her ivs then that it is a love story and the show is going to rest on the shoulders of the two leads.

It must have been difficult for many of us to accept her as she was because she always had that sankadevi trait in her...it was always intended. Khushi was not conceived as a serious mature heroine and she remained true to her traits till the end. And it is that characterisation that made this show a light romantic comedy and not an emotional drama.

And I know Sanaya speaks from her heart when she says that she loves her role- she loved doing the comedy the best. And SHE EXCELLED in that, because she believed in what she was doing.

I just found out yesterday that MJHT had Gautam Hegde, Hitesh Kevalya and Nissar Pervez from the IPK team.

Believe me, no one can give you romance like this PH.

That is why every other attempt like PV. MB. PKDH and BV falls flat!

Do try watching QH or read the WUs for the show- Zoya is not silly. Geet was silly, Khushi was less sillier and hopefully Zoya will be more mature.(Does not look like she will have to do more comedy than this because there is no fandom screaming for Asya: and hopefully Zee lets their PH s have a free hand in running the show.) The show is not about Asad and Zoya- it is about the whole family- really. Each one has a story surrounding them- it is a family story unlike IPK. )

      Delete
    8. This is the character sketch of Zoya from the post I linked above:

'Zoya is an NRI who is on a vacation in India with her family. She has some goals in life and is determined to achieve them. However she comes across hindrances while realizing her goals. Marriage isn't on her mind and she has many friends..
Zoya is a vibrant and new-age girl too who walks hand in hand with changing time. She is modern but keeps it in accordance with her culture and the traditions instilled in her. She is against the stereotypes and never hesitates to question them.
Zoya represents the educated progressive youth of today who are very well sorted and rooted in their culture. Yet they are not regressive. They are people who have adjusted to modern times and are trying to find their own place in this world. She is a cultured and balanced girl who is very conscious of her rights.'

I have not fallen in love with this heroine, I mean the character and the actress- I don't imagine I will ever- but she is worth watching, not at all disappointing for my sensibilities.

    9. Su,

Geet was not silly. She was made silly in the CRAPPY phase, in the months when 4lions had a new baby, When the creatives did not know what to do with the story as the leads had got married and the story had supposedly run its course.

      Delete
    10. Usha,
I know how you must be feeling when I call Geet silly. It is exactly what I'd feel if a QH fan called Khushi silly.

And to me, Khushi has not been silly. They took certain liberties with her character, I agree.

I feel Geet was an experiment. I think the PH improved on the heroine and story telling with IPK. I have not watched Geet fully, but Khushi never exhibited the silliness that I saw in Geet (I must have seen the crappy phase), so I believe the PH is learning. (It is in comparison with Geet that I say Khushi was better conceived.)

And their experiments are better than anything else on TV.

    11. Usha,
I refused to watch IPK during the Nainital trip, because I thought Khushi was silly and the whole story was cliched.
It was definitely not Arhi that attracted me to IPK, but Arhi kept me hooked on.

So I agree with you and Opti that I should not judge Geet based on few episodes here and there.

This was a 360 for me:

This week, my hubby glanced at the scene where Khushi fumbles with the sit- ups- called her silly, and again he commented on the absurdity of the judges knowing the answers related to the Raizadas when obviously they were there as a surprise.... I guess we all watch the show with different perspectives.

    12. Sarada, Ayesha, J, Dia,

      Interesting thoughts all around.

If I recall the initial brief of the show in a newspaper article last year, it was the story of a brother and sister and how they find the right partners in their lives. No wonder GH once insisted it was always Didi ki saut.

Anjali was supposed to be much bigger than she was in the show. She was initially always present even if not physically but Di ke liye was the theme. I also recall some write up that said Dil ke rishtey ya khoon ke rishtey.

But the taut storytelling gradually started to wobble and then it was just one thing after another all adding up steam. Someone on R&R once said the creative team is phenomenal with creating love stories and epic moments but lose interest some what once their leads get married or in maintaining the momentum they have created.

Yes the creators never got to tell the story their way but at time I wonder if they fought hard enough for it all the time knowing they wanted to run the show for 400 epis in their own words.

The end was coming for a long time now (rumours about it started 6 months ago) but it has been accelerated and we are at the cusp of the show ending.

As creative consultants 4L excel, perhaps they should only create and leave the management to another PH - frees up their bandwidth and lets them do what they like - spin magical tales.
Plus can Star ensure that the financing PH (4L or Pangalosean does a better job with the set, costumes and stuff. Btw the music diminishing did ti have anything to do with the contract with the music director also having ended?)

Khushi's character yo yoed lots and it is to the actor's credit that Khushi did not become unrecognizable. Though she was never/rarely nominated, it was the jodi that won more awards than ASR alone. SO to me it was always the ArHi love story that mattered.

Sarada - Like J generation leap, replacement ASR, I would have wished them well and stopped cos I am ajeeb in not wanting to see characters being played by multiple guys at a time. All it needed was a clear statement and not this leaky tap business which has been horrific for teh online audiences.

J - I hear you and no one detracts credit for their creation but if you are passionate it should show in the final product. Listening to fans - tell me did not all the major scenes and dialogues written come from them, not from us. Yes they opened FB and twitter accounts but that was to garner curiosity for teh show, market it on a medium that was becoming a potential adspace for free. Perhaps that letter was them being really brutally honest or perhaps they were playing around with teh audience emotions - But I say ignorance would have been bliss!

This post is addressed to u.....I am yet to read the rest having just logged in but i had to respond to ur post...
did u say u have learn to write more than 2 sentences somewhere else above....I am sure u were joking....

whether u write 2 sentences or more.....they are phatakas alright.....they convey all they are meant to convey....

The reason i am writing this to u becos like u I believe that its the audience's loss that they never got the story that they professed to love....it was one case where their excessive love killed the promise in the story. At the same time, I so wish Gul had the patience to surmount this audience pressure or whatever u call it....becos she was on the cusp of creating something special that deserved a better hearing....instead of this being about an actor or other allied issues...it should have always been about Arnav's love for Khushi.......their journey..

I don't care for moralistic overtones in love stories..becos a love story is just that.....
"sirf ehsaas hain yeh ruh se mehsoos karo"

If one got into debates on what is right for a character in a love story, believe me love stories will always be killed before they can see the light of the day...Sensibilities make us respond to things most times but in love stories...its always the treatment of the characters to the theme that should take precedence else IPK did not stand a chance when a man threw a woman from an height......Yes...debates are bound to happen..but the point of the story teller has to be made before judgements can roll out...

this story never pretended to address social issues...It was about this dark man and his encounter with a woman who changed his perception abot love and life...If we let our prejudices to come in before his journey reached culmination, weren't we kept away knowing his real journey?

IPK will always be about the promise of a magical journey... becos it was perhaps for the first time when there was coming together of everyone who was meant to come toether to take this journey forward...that they met with a mishap along the way is just one of those rude interludes that life throws ur way!!

If it was about a sister who put her life in danger for her honour...i would say they did grave injustice to Payal's character becos frankly beyond that aspect of K marrying Arnav for Payal....i never saw any bond flourish between K and P (mch of it was our imagination and some end and odd convos between sisters before this event)While there was a thread of Anji-Arnav relationship tat ran thru much of IPK...

Khushi was central becos she was the axis around which Arnav's thot process revolved or started to revolve after he met her....

      Delete
    19. Rekh,
Agreed they did not explore that after the marriage- Khushi's sister was sidelined.

But that was the premise of the marriage, right. They both did it for their sisters.

      Delete
    20. Su,

What you say sounds good but it was centred around Arnav Anjali and Khushi and how Khushi transforms both their lives while her life changes too.

Payal was an incidental character - the makers themselves confessed this in an interview. And the initial brief said how a man and his sister. Remember how much we all professed to be fed up of Di ke liye but that was the pivotal point - his dimaag vs dil conflict, his khoon ke rishtey vs dil ke rishtey conflict, his Di's Khushi vs his Khushi conflict, the nafrat mohabbat tug of war, the writer of destiny vs the acceptor of fate conflict

      J,
The medium is tough and TRPs and fans can be a big pain but tell me did we not still keep pounding our views first 9 months of the show and did they not go ahead and show us what they chose to not what we asked them. Even if our wishes came true it would wow us because they imagined it better than us.

It takes 2 to tango - if u were pressured you could have fought and not given in - if the story meant so much to you you would have found a way to say it irrespective of everything else (for they are all daily transactional details) but the story is your vision!

And even if you compromised some, you take it in your stride and work into the larger picture never losing sight of the vision. Never easy but teh unflagging spirit is a hallmark of achievers.

So is to be a case of they wrote their own destiny or whatever they wrote was written for them by holding their hand? Whichever the case it would have been a choice by the creators to resist or give in. Yes you cannot always resist but having given in once does not mean you no longer resist in the future.

If the online fan bugging was interfering - they could have closed the account. We never asked them to open forum32. They chose to want to speak with fans and hear from them. Then they needed the maturity to handle the good and bad, sift through the muck and make their own decision.
Are they Anjali Jha / Rani Sahiba or Khushi Kumari Gupta / Singh Raizada?

      Delete
    21. Su,

I don't think the PH has learnt much from their previous show. Here are the common elements in both the shows:

-Blast from past swept under the carpet- Maan is supposed to have had a mysterious past relics of which he held in his attic. His past is what made him a recluse. We never got to know it. In IPK we were given sketchy details but nothing warranting the exreme reactions of the lead players.

-characters named earlier fail to make an appearance - Sameera and Vicky in Geet and Dhruv in IPK.

-large cast with good parallel tracks at the start of the show but once the lead jodi clicks, it progressively becomes lead-centric with supporting cast reduced to mute spectators.

-the shabbiness of the dresses worn by leads increases with the popularity of the leads.

      - The sets which are grand to begin with becomes progressively pathetic. The deterioration in production value is deriectly related to the start of another mega show. Maan lost his huge house with numerous corridors when Arnav landed on his helicopter. We already know the size of Arnav's bathroom and Azad's bathroom. In fact Azad's bathroom may be bigger than Arnav's bedroom.

-Characters go missing without suitable explanation to their absence.

      -Botched up miscarriages

-build up of tracks is more interesting than their climaxes (which invariably fizzle out)

-Absence of clearly definited tracks post marriage of the leads.

      Delete
    22. I agree Sandy....and that is why I feel they gave too much importance to this online audience....it was almost frankenstein situation.....there were spoilers and an attempt to engage with the audience... Now once u do that...u can't control what kind of responses will come up....Its upto ur maturity what to take and what to discard..

The medium and the producer had to be on the same page....Imagine for a medium, it is larger issue...they are talking about nayi soch and things like that...obv IPK cannot be called nayi soch from any angle.....so where did IPK fit in their bus plan....it was a fantastic opportunity to get into hitherto less explored markets...it was a love story that had caught the imagination of a new kind of audience so what do you do? Listen to it all the time or soemtime?

Here is where i guess, the PH and the Ch must have clashed.....

CH would have wanted to safeguard their interests by attaching a lot of importance to audience opinion...whereas the PH would have been unable to get thru why their story telling is different. As a PH, my responsibility would have been to get a buy-in or a free rein for my kind of story telling....somehow that did not happen....

    23. And going by wat Opti says, its easy to see why PH could not convince the channel...they were very weak on a lot of premises...

    24. Su,

I take serious affront to your calling Geet silly. For a person who has not watched the show in full you shouldn't be judging her character. I have watched all three shows of the PH. So I think I can make a fair assessment on how their females leads shaped/shaping up. Geet had her silly moments. So did Khushi. Khushi was at the peak of silliness when she was still figuring out what she felt for Arnav. The entire track of 101 ways to irritate Arnav was silly. So was Khushi thinking that Arnav wanted to kill her. Inspite of it all I loved her because I could look beyond that and see her golden heart. I could make that judgment because I had seen her right through the show. You have not seen Geet evolve during the show. So I would request you to refrain from making such sweeping judgments. Of the three leads, Zoya is the one who has not touch me so far, although she is supposed to be the most intelligent of the lot. Maybe the actress is not as versatile as I found Drashti and Sanaya or maybe her annoying characteristics outweigh her modern outlook and intelligent behaviour.

The fact is this PH pays more attention to the characterisation of their male leads than their female leads. Azad has a much more clearly defined personality than Zoya and despite his OCD and MCPness, there is something that draws you to him.

    25. Rekha,

There was plenty of room for 'naya soch' even in this show. They should have handled the whole Khushi-Shyam link with greater sensitivity. Khushi was thrown in the company of the man who was lusting her. The fact that he was her brother-in-law made it almost incestuous. This point was never highlighted. They should have either shown a strong Khushi who forcefully retaliated everytime he came within two feet of her radious or shown an Arnav who empathised with the trauma he subjected her to by forcing her to live in the same house as the creep. Another nayi soch would have been how a sister who was always leading a sheltered life under her brother's care prior to the break up of her marriage, decides to be independant. Being afflicted by Polio is no excuse to be cooped up in the house. They could have shown Khushi setting up that catering business and making it a success instead of this stupid beauty pageant show with ridiculous extras who look anything but glamorous. Another track which could have been explored was Anjali's mental balance - the dependence personality syndrome which with the help of Arshi could have been overcome. So there were opportunities for nayi soch which were just not taken up.

    26. Opti,

I agree.....this was the pitch that was to be used by the PH to sell it to the medium....a lot of wasted chances....from ur understanding of the way the PH works....i guess they are highly creative people but perhaps lack business sense.....both have to co-exist when u are in the business of marketing ur wares..

      Delete
    27. sandy, it was not the online audience that the PH bowed down to.. it was the members on the creative team, from sp. once arshi won the SPA best jodi award, the interference to give them more screen space started..

forget the fact that they were onscreen anyway because it was the intense 'after forced wedding' week, they were forced to give romance with a full week of holi.. no one complained.. later, the story went for a toss (up until then, every member of the cast was properly used, even lakshmi the goat..)with the OTT swami track.. making it into a comedy serial.. the original storyline was somewhere hidden in there, but the screenplay did not pay any sort of support to the storyline.

i remember that it was after the kidnapping and "i love you" that Doodle of redux blamed gul of bowing down to SP pressure and stopped analysing the symbolisms..

and honestly, they did indeed take a lot of angst out of the story during every serious track.. where we expected razorsharp angst, there was OTT comedy..
want to say a lot more, but lost my train of thought.

here is a Vm that emphasises the angst in the romance.. one that i love..

    28. Opti,

let me put it this way...that the appeal for the online audience for IPK was never all this "nayi soch of female emancipation....they really care a hang....if it was indeed about emancipation...they would be watching DABH with greater interest becos that serial is indeed addressing it..whatever may be the means to achieve it...but it would been just tat...not this hysteria that IPK became

For the overseas aud largely, it was the that IPK had a beautiful gud luking pair and the treatment of their romance was a bit diff and added to that there was not the usual saas-bahu stuff...that wouldn't sit with their sensibilities (not that they don't have issues of this kind in their life just that they would choose that as their mode of entertainment)which is wy many people were drawn to this story of a man falling in love against his grain with a woman very diff from himself overtly, a woman was strong willed, righteous, talkative, funny, crazy and somethings traditionally SP leads have perhaps not been..

SO if it had to carry on telling their tale in largely the manner the PH wanted, some adjustments to channel issues shold have been made...like the aspects u mentioned above....channel cannot be expected to show a serial that went larely against their (lets call it) the mission statement.....I guess PH did not have the patience to sell it like that....

      Delete
    29. J,
carrying further ur train of thot..

1)PH had a diff story to tell..a dark love story with even strains of some elements that would be questionable(of that there is no doubt)
2)But PH had to tell that on SP medium
3)SP was perhaps forced to see two important things , one of what their own position is on such things and the opinions of very audience that was claiming to support this story
      4) Choices before PH would be to either stand their ground or make adjustments..obv they made adjustments

Ofc this is hypothetical, I am just wondering if PH had made some work around like they did wth the atoot vishwas track ..the atoot viswas was not the one Gul had intended...it was diluted...yet the result was not as bad as all other tracks that followed....somewhere the message of the track of building of trust was understood by people in hindsight....so its my belief that perhaps if the PH had persevered (ofc, i can only conjecture) maybe the other tracks would have also reached the high they intended instead of fizzling out....with some tweaking but i guess Gul's patience or interest had rn out by then....

obv i am doing postmortem of something that i don't have any real facts about so its obv going to be flawed...just a case of silly closures for something i was very attached to...

    31. Rekha,

They could have easily integrated the channel's vision in their love story and in fact if they had done that the serial would have been enriched and not weakened. In fact it was the OTT tracks which weakened the intense love story as Jaya pointed out. The viewers of the show who are largely an intelligent lot put up with it because of the leading pair and their excellent and compelling portrayal of the characters they played. So like I pointed, a streak of fresh thinking, could have been easily integrated into the story telling without making it drab, boring or plain silly. Ofcourse it would require a little more intelligence in the screen play writing to weave in the nuances without sounding preachy but it is not impossible.

    32. By the way, although the theme of DABH may be revolutionary, the path they are adopting is excruciatingly slow and frustrating, I have given up on the show. Even after one and half years the educated heroine is towing her dominating Mil's line and her hubby is the lone warrior in this battle for her rights. Even he has now resorted to covert acts to achieve a goal which looks increasingly unattainable.

Although I detest Big boss, I find it more bearable than this show.

Any way, the post was in no way meant to drag Geet in to this. I feel all the characters must be dear to the makers. I will not defend Zoya because I mentioned it clearly that I may not fall in love with the character or the actress. I will watch it for the reasons I started watching IPK- for the story telling that is effortless.

Somehow, Samrat - Gunjan in the few 2 or 3 scenes I saw in You tube was more appealing to me . That is simply because I am a huge Nissar- Kevalya fan. And I found they were involved in MJHT only after I liked MJHT and wanted to look up the creatives- though it was not officially a 4 lions project, the quality appeals to me more than Geet.

Again, I remember Dia saying MJHT went through a decay also, so I suppose that is inevitable in any Indian serial aspiring to go beyond 1 year. Otherwise it has to be monotonous like BV or PKDH.

On the PH concentrating on male leads, I think that is their modus operandi for love stories. Simply because only women watch these shows and they are attracted to a strong male lead. So I guess they don't mind compromising on the heroine's character for the larger audience. It is all for the trps after all, and there are very few like us who watch it for the story and the characters. The very fact that the serial was shut down with Barun leaving proves it to the makers. If Sanaya was the one who got a movie offer and wanted to move on, I don't think any one in IF would have sent hate mails or spammed SP like this. Even if the show rested on her shoulders. Ofc, Sanaya would have never done it, that is a different matter altogether.

    34. Opti,

I don't watch the show at all...at most i have caught snippets here and there based on which i have no authority to comment...
i am only guessing based on the theme...of a person wanting to help his wife attain some goals in face of opposition from a conservative family..i have absolutely no idea of the treatment so my views may be skewed..

my point is more in respect of channels having a certain of kind of image to present...so if somethings don't make sense in the long run they will not permit it....for example...i can't imagine a reality show like BB on SP.. so ur story telling and channel sensibilities have to match to be able to have a successful union...matters of actor becoming than character is all incidental and i would say only makes for gud copy...for a TRP aud...all this hardly matters...they are just concerned abt some action on TV during prime time...in that some take greater eyeballs than others

IPK aaj nahin toh kal bandh hota...it had nothing to peddle beyond the pedestrian from now on.....so if people want to remember IPK...it should be before it become really run-of-the-mill

    35. Su,

We will never agree on this but I too watched MJHT and I liked the other pair (Rati and Arjun) more than Monaya. Although Sanaya was good in the role she was given, the character did not interest me. I did not get hooked to the show because I found it slow moving.

Geet and IPK in contrast were well paced. Isn't it strange you say you are a big fan of Nissar and yet you didn't like Geet? Nissar played a very important role in shaping Geet. In fact he personally directed the episodes during its peak. As I said this PH has a bunch of very creative and talented people who have a way with telling their stories. You mentioned in an earlier post that you did not find Geet to be layered. That is the biggest misconception from someone who has not really seen the show. If you have to visit the Geet forum in IF and go through the posts between June and December 2010, you would have seen the viewer's perception of the many layers the show had. Geet had a huge following even when it was on a lesser viewed channel. It won the leads the best jodi award, the first for any starone couple. At the time this very same PH mocked the fans and said that they must have broken their mouses to ensure that their favourites win. Their condescending attitude was very much visible even with viewers of this show.

As for me, I am becoming older and wiser with every show I watch. Like you, Kasam Se was the first hindi show that hooked me but I could get out of that addiction pretty soon after the one night stand between jai and Pia. As I said earlier, the other shows I was hooked to were all about loyal couples right up to the end. That is the only criterion to hold me to a show. So if they had showed Khushi falling for another man, even if she believed that Arnav was dead, I would have easily given up on the show. Good they did not push me to that.

As to the shows of this PH. Yes, the PH has its flaws and I guess with the experience I've gained in the last two years, I know them fairly well by now. You may wonder as to why I would still watch their shows. As I said, for me as long as the story is interesting, I don't care which PH is showing them. After all there is no PH which is exemplary. When they give me good stuff, I'll appreciate it. When they give me crap, I'll complain about it. At the end of the day, I'll move on. Serial Couples may come and serial couples may go but life goes on forever. Jai-Bani, Milind-Prachi, Maan-Geet, Arnav-Khushi, RK- Madhu -- I loved them all and the best memories of them are always with me (stored away in my Tab) but I'll move on when a new jodi interests me. Maybe it may be Azad-Zoya. Who knows?

"Today it is not about what could be but what has been. And what has been is an ample lot. Shades of love, so many beautiful relationships, poignant moments, soulful music, poetry of silence,...the stuff that dreams are made of!"

True...i guess i should look for closure another day....

  18. Jaya (and the others who posted links) - THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for the links to the lovely vms

though i know this is only fiction but was getting all depressed about saying bye bye to the show simply coz they are awesome together and its a habit now to see them together and then come here to chitchat about it - even when they were not together, they had to be - it was obvious, they were made for each other (literally!) - something that does not happen in real life - reel life was the perfect fantasy world!

Plus even though i was expecting the story to end, the story of ARHI was told (and i did not want it to become a regular EK show!) this rushed 'not even in the same frame' kind of good bye was depressing me -

all the VMs you posted today were made on post wedding footage - thereby saying - they do live happily ever after - all is well in the perfect dream world and that makes me happy again- -now i am not counting the "but this was left open....but this was not shown...but what about the guptas...but what about ma kay kangaan...but what about the silver coins... but what about...." - now i am looking at all the happy times together and the next steps are obvious - they live happily ever after!

    me happy!

i would actually not mind a season 2 where the same cast comes in with more crisp stories to tell of the rest of the family and maybe more BFTP - but only on one condition - that no character be compromised!! and since this will not happen - i am ok to say goodbye!

    11. I am very sad today ... very, very sad. And ashamed as well.

The demand for a happy ending for fictional characters, has hurt real people ... their jobs, their livelihoods, and their real life friendships. Today when I saw Sanaya crying, shooting alone on the last day ...a day which should NOT have been the last day, but the first day of a second innings, I felt incredibly selfish for even for a moment feeling happy that the show has ended, just so that my fictional Arnav and Khushi could live happily ever after.

Sanaya and the rest of the cast were happy to continue working even with crappy scripts ... my response as a viewer should have been limited to switching off the tv if I did not want to watch. It should not have extended making unreasonable demands that eventually ended their jobs.

I know many of you felt that you wanted a happy ending to the Arnav Khushi love story - you all know I never did, I wanted the show to continue. Yesterday I tried to make peace with the show ending with that view - that I could live with my happy ending. Today I realise I cannot ... because seeing Sanaya alone in tears hurts me FAR MORE than seeing Khushi in tears onscreen would ever have done. And even in her own sadness, she remembered to worry about the crew who would be jobless at such short notice. Reminds me - if I needed any reminder - as to why I not only admire the actress, but also the person, Sanaya Irani.

I have very close friends visiting ... and even midst all the fun here, I cannot stop feeling bad for my sunshine girl and the others, Daljeet, NK, who made sure they were there for her at the end.

ALL my prayers go out to whoever is listening ... I want Sanaya and the other actors back on screen as soon as possible, and this time in a show which respects her talent.

Sanaya, I have never loved and respected a screen actor as much as I do you. God bless you ... best wishes from the bottom of my heart.

Best wishes to the rest of the cast and crew of IPKKND as well.

only the first clamor will be heard..

there.. i learned a life lesson from IPK.

    13. Agree with you Dia. It was very sad and heartbreaking to see Sanaya crying and feeling bad that the show was closing at such a short notice. Yes the show was supposed to go off-air but it went so suddenly and poor Sanaya felt so bad for the crew and the staff. The way she was saying I wish all of you get jobs and do well in life I felt proud of her. Even when she herself is going to be jobless, she took a moment to thank all the staff and pray for them. She indeed is a gem of a person. Even I had decided that I would switch off the show if they indeed went the Arnav dying way. Infact I had even cancelled the channel to be in AD more.

The demand for closure may have been great but at the same time I don't think the channel just took this demand and pulled off the plug. Lot of factors might have forced it but yes I definitely feel bad that everything happened at such a sudden notice.

I wish the cast and crew of IPK get jobs soon enough and given that the entertainment industry is so huge,I do hope they get jobs pretty soon.

    14. Dia,

      Hugs!

Yes it felt bad to see all of them in tears. The decision was inevitable but the pressure preponed it. The team did not expect it to end so quickly. mami said it best - death from illness or death from accident.

All that was needed to abate the past 2 month frenzy was clearcut statements about status quo but que sera sera!

I did email Star (no spamming) simply asking for a quality show. But yes I told them to me ASR was BS and accepting a new guy in his shoes would be difficult but if SI wanted to go on the show must go on without ruining the Arnav and Khushi story. Bas!
But it has been weighing on my mind since the end was announced and after seeing the cast today and seeing Akshay and Abhaas tweets, I feel miserable.

Shiddat that all these people find good work again soon!
Actually shiddat to the all this team working together again (minus BS) in a new love story. BS and SI together again - will happen when it has to and I am in no hurry for their careers to be restricted.

    15. Dia - though i completely agree with you that the closing down of the show does mean 'a sad day' for quite a few people but i do not agree the PH/Channel did it coz 'people wanted it so' - i am pretty sure that there were a lot more factors at play here

And i am not saying that coz i wanted the show to end on a happy note - (yes i wanted it to end compared to the nonsense that is generally dished out but if it had continued - I probably would have watched - for the actors or this blog - or would have shut it off - that would be my choice)

I know there are a lot more crazy people out there - people who must have been pestering the channel/PH a in terms of calls and messages etc - i really dont think the channel or the PH is new to this - they know how to handle this (remember the hysteria after the first death on screen soap started - the maheer guy) Plus they also know that this dies out - so i really cant believe that a few crazy people asking for a happy ending ended the show - i just cant believe that

I however find it easier to believe that some crazy fans may have stalked our dear couple and they could have become a real life threat - that seems more possible to me - but letters and messages ending a money making show - no that does not seem real

      Delete
    16. mona, i did not mean to imply that the fanmail ended the show.. i just meant, i wanted the fanmail to be both ways, not only about ending the show.

ending the show was a decision SP took along with the PH.. it was never in the fans power..

remembering padfoot, if the PH succeeded in getting the fans to mail SP to end the show, i was saying there should have been emails asking to keep the show.. but then, hindsight is 20/20

    17. Dia,
I know that many people here will not agree with me but I shall say it. I feel that Barun Sobti has a big hand in the closure of the show (indirectly and unintentionally, no doubt). His fans were the ones who have really made their voices heard to the channel, hence making them to pull the show off now (otherwise the show may have lasted for a couple of months or more). And part of the reason why they felt so strongly seems to be the vagueness of his reason for leaving (in his words, taking a break, I for one never believed that!) the show. I don't understand why he could not be honest about his reason. I mean, it is obvious that he is looking for opportunities in movies. And I don't see anything wrong with that. Many TV actors have left their show for movies making their fans aware of their plans. But the fact that he has not been honest about his intentions has made everyone's life a hell, be it, his fans, the PH (I don't know if you guys are aware of the conspiracy theories that have been floating around) and the channel ( I think the channel has announced that Barun Sobti would like to try movies now but his fans are not taking it seriously) as well. I feel that Barun Sobti has not handled the situation well.

    18. Mona,

I agree it was a business decision finally. Brand name was taking a beating. For 2 weeks they were in the news for all teh wrong reasons. They ewaited to wrap SPL and since then check the clear statements, tweets and articles. The scope of mischief arose bcos channel had a gag order on the news.

      J,
The leaked news of Virak and death scene messed it up - till then it was Arnav and Khushi love story. But then the death scene made people feel that once gone Arnav may never be brought back and though today there are promises os ASR return he eventually may not because what was being shown was being commercially viable and the show would end with that. How many of us would have watched is debatable and whether the beauty of the story would have been diluted is also debatable. So if the show had not ended would the fans have kept quiet - no so sooner or later this would have happened and perhaps byteh end there would only have been this mess and no Arnav Khushi ending possibly. Yep hindsight even then would have been 20/20

      Ayesha,
BS has been a factor - no denying that. But as an actor he can choose to leave. Now why he left is not clear - some say his ambitions some say internal disputes - only the parties concerned know. SO yes he wanted to leave.
      Now there were 2 hiccups
PH - did not want to run the show without him / without ASR (the forum 32 letter)
SP - needed the show quietly running bcos of SPL

So he was leaving / takign a break / quitting - chaos and no clear statement unlike since the last 3 or 4 days. As much as I have seen, actors can only make statements approved by the entity to whom they are contracted.

Sp had all plans to keep teh show running.

But closer to SPL and at SPL they realized the extent of influence the actor had on the character. By then their talks with PH had fallen through and they had been appraised of the forum32 letter too. There could have been disagreements around specific scenes as SP saw the appeal of the actors at SPL. So all in all pull plug.

yes situation has not been handled well by BS, SP and PH. BS teh least as he would have been contracted.

Besides the audience wanted to feel empowered and SP and PH were more than willing to let them knowing they can eventually pin it all on them.

P.S: I am writng teh above from a purely clinical point fo view - no emotions or bias to any party

      Delete
    19. Ayesha,

In the above, PH wanted to run it with him / withotu him - actually unclear.

In any case their disinterest in teh story was showing and tehy would have run it for the time limit assigned by teh channel sometime in near future.

I think channel would have wanted replacement but that meant PH investing effort in making sure the actor is accepted and perhaps they were not so keen as they felt 2 marriages and a kid later teh ArHi story was really done.

    20. Completely with u on this Monu...

Its easier to blame the fans for this...they are the easiest target becos of their often silly behaviour but to say that they are the cause for a show shutting down is distortion of facts becos actual decision makers can choose to give a spin to anything nad emotional people do think of others...its natural...These were perhaps fans that took this show to this heights as well...

even if fans had being crying hoarse but if there was any way the channel saw any sense in continuing with IPK in its current form, they would have done it....
that they chose not to could only be a result some real business decision..

That fans played a role in contributing to the decision cannot be ruled out but the greater point is of what was tat number that caused them to react to that part...perhaps it had to do something to the appeal of the show getting minimised if IPK had continued on a new premise, without ASR the character or a new actor in ASR's shoes

I can see SP decision as a case of cutting their losses...

      1) The stroryline with Viraf coming in. could still be explored under a diff umbrella - to do it under IPK banner may have become a risk considering the legacy aspect.

      2) Viraf as ASR would be a tall ask also considering that they were now parents to a kid

3)Barun's effect on IPK also cannot be undermined which SP probably realised closer to SPL

So, wouldn't it be better to let fans think that they have won this round....they can always bring about a new concept with the same PH and cast

But as it so happens everything related IPK becomes news....so suddenly u have a situation of emotional people who think that show may have caused jobs to be lost....be that it may....thats an emotional pitch but is it really true and if so...who should they be demanding answers for that? from their employers or faceless people on cyberspace? The incongruity of it makes it very strange...

    21. If some one thinks fans caused the closure for this show then they are mistaken. So many other actors left for movies but the shows are still running. PH wanted to end the show in Nov itself. Otherwise there is no need for the letter on forum32 mentioning the story running its course. In a non-trp season don't you think if the PH had least bit of intention to continue this product, they would have done a good job and got good storyline. Creatives walked away, main characters walked away and we don't even get any replacements. What does this mean. I don't think the PH would have run this show with Viraf replacing Barun as ASR or as a new character. Reason a show can't run on 5-6 members. If not now the show would have gone off air when the TRPs are out. So the PH gains with the show closure. It need not spend on the show for another 3-4 weeks and neither it has to answer to the hysterical fans. Also it has a ready made fall guy barun to take the blame.

Barun is being silent so we don't know what his reasons are for quitting. At least I admire that guy to stand firm on his decision in face of so much pressure. But one thing I also admire is that he is not cleaning his dirty linen in the public and instead maintaining a dignified silence. So let's give the guy a break. The show obviously didn't close because he walked out. The show closed for lot of reasons and at the end it was a business decision for both the PH and channel. So I think we fans should accept it and move on.

    22. Psarda, Rekha - exactly- call me cynical but i cannot believe the 'audience' influenced the closure - agree with you all J, Sandy and the rest - the Channel tried to cut looses - but here is what i dont get - shutting down the series could potentially mean lesser people watching the channel - lesser than if ASR was replaced (coz now you are loosing out on Sanaya fans as well)- that's not business sense -
So as i see it - the channel weighted its options, decided to end around the sheetal track but informed all others abruptly and this last bit makes me feel that something more than money may be at play here - egos? pride? personal vendetta? - only the guys involved know - but its not the audience for sure

as for BS - maybe he is a really mercenary fellow and is leaving for films without thinking of the 200+ people on the sets, maybe he is a sweetheart and leaving coz he wants to work on his marriage - maybe both - BUT The point is, he gave in a notice period, followed the rules of the contract, so in my eyes he is not to blame - his exit might have sparked other issues as well but the PH and the channel cannot get away by blaming him - every organisation sees transition and no matter how imp the employee, the organisation has to have processes in place to smoothen the exit

      Delete
    23. Monu,

The situation was perhaps all fluid for all people.

Padfoot said creatives are working out an exit option for ASR in Nov......now that is very old news for us...perhaps this was becos BS put in his papers in Sep (as was first reported but asked to keep mum)
the exit option was an odd one and until it was in R and R, it stayed with us but that same news was also discussed in IF forum closer to Nov...which means that the matter must have come up for filming.....and turned from secret news to a spoiler....

      Then mayhem ensued......
Was the exit option for ASR worked out for a break scenario or a quit scenario......not sure.....anywhich ways the BS not being part of the proceedings for a while or ever and the difficulty of continuing without him must have come up, weighed and decided upon......and the fan mania must have made the fluid situation more pressing....therefore the flip-flop from character bigger than actor...and later the red ribbon..

      Perhaps they had two choices

      1) Keeping IPK on less-ASR or
      2) Giving IPK a break withot indicating it is one

all i am saying is there is greater chance to save a new improved IPK (new name) with same cast minus BS and some others with a break than the first one with all the ensuing headaches....
      only padfoot can clarify *wink*

    2. Hayeeeeeeee!!tks J....

every word that maxine wrote true.....
ok leaving one part when she said about not loving ASR when he was being ASR.....

when i do the fav scenes from Mon in Dia's post......i will live my ASR love with u all....actually a lot of my fav moments had ASR in that fierce situation of surrendering to the emotion of love either in anger, helpless against his own heart(mera dil hi meri baat nahin sunta), or simply mesmerized into acting like a lovesick puppy..

tehre are a lot of Khushi scenes too but naturally they have a ASR component to it becos bina Khushi ke ASR nahin and vice versa....

    3. Jaya - All that this Maxine lady wrote hit a chord!!
      For me:
escapism is what i called it too - my personal innocent but totally private 'Me' time - that i did not share with anyone - my few moments of happiness where i saw my belief in love, romance, soul mates come to life (albeit fictional life)

but the good thing about fictional life is that its on the net!! so many many happy re-watches to you all :D:D

wonder if Sarun ever come back or if SI comes back in another role, will we be chatting again like this - reminiscing about IPK like these guys have been about MJHT? just hope SI does not come in a bitchy role (for versatility sake!) - that would be really sad :(

      Delete
    4. Monu,

among the first role that San played was a bitchy one and believe it or not, my fascination for San as an actor is from that role..(radha ki betiyaan...she played a small role, i looked at her more tan the author backed role for Ratan Rajput )she is versalite....no two doubts for me.

    5. J,
      That was wonderful.

Who are these moderators? Are they employed by IF, do they get paid?

Someone mentioned Doods up there- was she a moderator too, along with Sathya? I am asking because I think I saw Doods writing somewhere recently.

    1. Literally, that comparison to an accident...the sudden death...that is what has made it so difficult for us to accept it.

Sanaya is psett as is every one else on the sets...why couldn't SP give them a week off and then get Barun to wrap up the show in 1 week? This was too cruel to the cast and crew.
Itne heartless kaise ho sakte hain?

And they talk about nayee soch and satyameva jayate and making a difference in some one's life...pooh!

Oh! I bet they will come up with some new funda and pay all of them one or 2 months' salary- guess labour rules say they got to- and keep their side clean.
      Hypocrites!

BALH - will have another leap
KHTV - will also have a leap and teh lead will die
uttran - apparently has one wife and two husband at one time!!

    after these bit -
    1) Am so so glad IPK ka yeh haal nahi hua!!

    2) Sanaya was really upset about loosing teh present team - i am sorry for her and if only the CT had paid more attention to the story - the loopholes etc - we probably would still have IPK now!

    1. San's reactions are understandable esp if she came to know of it like all of us, as a sudden development ....also a good team is a great asset....esp in their kind of business....they spend a lot of time on the sets..thats a huge asset if woh pal haste haste kat jaaye...having a gud work environment is a valuable thing

this just reminded me of BS's last day shooting interview to SBS, i think he was asked what did IPKKND give him....instead of the expected replies (i mean abt great role etc), he actually gave a philosophical answer..
he said it gave me time....and went to say "waqt kaisa bhi ho, cut jaata hain, acha ho ya bura,if i look back IPKKND gave me a year and half of a good time"...keeps it simple this man....among all the mayhem....the way i see it he does not arrogate any status to himself...he was talking of a good time on the sets doing his work, really unaffected by all that happened around him....that people chose to gave him demigod status is really unfortunate...

      Delete
    2. Nahi yaar, Mona.

I agree that the CT should have paid more attention to the story- but the fact is Barun wanted to leave quite early on in the show.
And I am a big fan of the creative team and all that, but THE FACT is, Arhi is nothing without Sarun and IPK is only about Arhi.(If I remember right, the initial epis did not concentrate only on Arhi, up till the marriage the leads were not over worked, so that was not the reason for Barun wanting to leave then.)

If Barun or Sanaya wanted out of the equation, the story would not have worked, whichever way they took it with ASR and Khushi. It just had to be a new character...and that would have been Gul killing her baby again.

There was really no clear way out, so SP nicely put the blame on Barun and played the 'nice guy'.Pooh! SP could have planned this ending 2 weeks back and the team could have shot a good finale.

God, I hate this Star Parivaar thing. Thank God Sanaya was not 'required' to be there. Mamiji rocked as usual and Shyamu was a surprise.

      Delete
    3. thats my point too - ipk had to end - but had the CT been more careful and the channel more understanding - we could have had a sweeter farewell - happier one - with both Arhi in a frame!!!

  29. I met a few friends for dinner...all IPK fans..and most people are super mad at BS & SI for supporting the PH and not coming out with the 'TRUTH'...

i mean..its quite simple is it not?? why would actors, professionals bad mouth their own PH in public even if they did have a problem with them??

i for one would have been surprised if they did say anything mad..

as for BS..yaar..notice dediya usne..am sure he did not expect the show to end..he wanted to leave..why speculate if he got an offer from Ekta so he ditched his friends...

well..it was an annoying evening..i think coming to R&R i got used to looking at things from every angle and discussing it..and when i see people jumping to conclusions..i get irritated!!! kya karein!!

u said it - no one burns bridges in the profession unless there is a strong motivation to do so. And normal people in all walks of life have a gratitude (of varying extent) to the org(s) that helped make them big.

Today as we all countdown for the last time to 8 PM why think of what could have been, be happy about what was, focus on what is and wish for a beautiful whatever will be...

  30. Am planning to rewatch all episodes again (ofc!) and noticed something
    - Sanaya's makeup in the first few episodes was really really bad!
    - the Sheesh mahal fashion show was grand, done at a massive scale and compare that to the present Mrs India thing done inside a room - you really cant say teh PH was paying too much attention to the serial! (ps wonder who pays for all this, the PH or the channel?)

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Good question Monu..i was noticing a few shows on Colors and everything seems grand.. i was thinking..do all PH's that make show on Colors have loads of money or does the channel fund them some??!!!

      Delete
    2. If you watch the other shows on SP- the ones with rich house holds are pretty OK, I feel. Like PKDH and behna.
      But they are also uniforms.
Behna- the elder sis is better dressed than the younger one- may be she insists on some personal preferences.

And Anjali- DB gets her sarees from her designer friend. So it seems like the PH has to provide the funds.

On Zee- PV is pretty unimpressive in terms of the women's dresses, except for the youngest DIL- I feel even that actress gets her costumes sponsored by some one.
QH- all the women are well dressed, and appropriately so, may be because it is a new show.

When it comes to IPK, I keep two things in mind.
      1. The PH has many shows to run, might be a little low on budget. Also Khushi as a character had to be shown in a little old fashioned stuff to get her to modernise and show the contrast. (Woe to us! We are missing out on the well dressed Khushi after the taunts from Sam Bhaiya and training from Mrs. India?)

      2. The PH has been extremely lavish on the 'function' wears of Khushi. Each one of those lehengas and Sarees were an exquisite piece-definitely better than any of the brides I have seen on TV on any channel-they never showed kanjoosi there.
So, even if they are miserly on the daily wear they spend money where it is needed.

Who knows? Like OPti says , very soon QH will also start looking shabby. May be their 'strength based selling' does not include costumes.

Personally, I liked the daily wear of the doctor girl in Sony a lot- KTLK- she had such lovely kurtis...

And I would never have noticed the tents of Khushi if it was not pointed out to me- I thought it went with the character.
That is purely because I am blind too- when the actors come on the screen, I don't notice the costumes if they are decent looking.
I notice it if it is special like the kurtis and Khushi's lehengas or the QH costumes. Or if it is very bad like the PV blouses and Sarees or Maanvi's crazy looking outfits...

      Delete
    3. Monu / Anita,

I think both and when a grand scale is needed they can get the channel to fork over extra funds if it means an impactful epi and more TRP

was flipping channel other day and saw teh grandeur on colors..makes me wonder how the powers that be missed how much the show meant to people if they kept watching despite there not beeing teh same grandeur in set but just the actors bringin alive those lovely characters - all of them!

  37. I am actually very sad today. Not just because IPKKND is ending, though that also is a reason. I am sad because.

Khushi will never know who put those silver coins in the detergent packet.
Arnav will never know who bought all those plants.

Khushi will never know it was for her that arnav came back for lavanya.
Arnav will never know why khushi had tears in her eyes in spite of him doing exactly what she wanted.

Khushi will never know why arnav beat those gundas for just pushing her or what would have happened if they had really harmed her.
Arnav will never know why it was him she sought for support when she had an entire family in the hospital.

Khushi will never know why arnav was holding onto her paayal for so long.
Arnav will never know why khushi had his mannat ki chaabi for so long

Khushi will never know what was the deciding factor for arnav when he chose to get engage to lavanya.
Arnav will never know what pushed khushi to agree for an engangement.

Khushi will never know the reasons behind his farak padtha, despite being engaged.
Arnav will never know the feelings behind her farak nahi padtha hai, despite being engaged.

Khushi will never know what he went through when he thought she had an accident.
Arnav will never know what she went through when she came to know about shyam's betrayal.

Khushi will never know that more than his Di's life, his jija's betrayal, it was his heart break which led him to propose a hate marriage.
Arnav will never know, khushi went up there in the first place expecting only him.

Khushi will never know he never confronted khushi about shyam not for Di's sake or the family, but he feared her answer.
Arnav will never know Khushi hid the truth about shyam not for Di, or their family, but to save him from the heart break.

Neither khushi nor arnav will know why they really married each other.
For Arnav, was it really for his Di? Would he have done the same if it was any other girl?
For Khushi, was it only for her Jiji? Would she have trusted her life with any other man?

Arnav will never know Khushi loved him as husband and will take care of him like a wife would, despite the forced marriage.
Khushi will never know what Arnav (Ranjha) wanted to say after "hamesha hamesha..."

And now after one and a half years there are so many questions that have been left unanswered and are going to remain so forever. But the ultimate question has been answered, Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon? This is the perfect love where there is no meaning for good or bad. There is nothing right or wrong in this love. It doesn't matter what was the past or what the future holds. All that matters is when two people come together, there heart beats race against time to become one. And today, finally they will become one and live together forever and ever!
