30/11 - Epi 398 ... Goodbye, IPKKND

Friday November 30th '12

Fitting somehow ... that I will watch IPKKND's last episode at around the same time that I watched almost 395 earlier ones, give or take the few weeks I was travelling.  A show I have watched from start to end, not missing a single episode - a first for me.

Am out for dinner ... will watch and post later tonight.

Quick edit ... watched very late ... will edit completely late on Sunday or Monday.

What do I say? An episode that was obviously rushed to meet an unexpected deadline. The disinterest of the PH shows again in the so-called "Finale" of a Mrs. India contest that has as an audience the family of one participant, the two judges who were also the selectors, the trainer and the MC in undetermined roles and no other audience whatsoever.  The flashbacks of the Sheesh Mahal only served to underline the grandeur with which the soap started, and the level to which it fell. How the cv's rushed to meet the deadline showed in the way that Khushi was not with the family in any frame, her last few scenes probably all had to be shot separately within a crazy time span as soon as she returned from the UK. Similarly for her scenes with Arnav, which were probably shot before the trip ... except for that one scene, they were not in any frame together ... even in the last scene when she tells him how he is her biggest strength and is always with her. Today I felt her emotions did not come through as well as they usually do ... Barun was very flat almost all through. Probably because they were shooting to a tight deadline and hardly ever together ... both Sanaya and Barun are far better when shooting with each other, especially Barun.

I liked the flashbacks tracing their journey ...

I wonder how the PH would have shown Arnav's accident ... and Khushi's reaction ... this ending was supposed to complete their story, and yet it left me feeling incomplete. Again the channel interfering and not allowing the PH to do things the way they had planned, because of the overwhelming popularity of one actor, and the unreasonable demands of fans. Is that the story of the show?

yes they had canned these scene well in advance hence was confident of a good ending.. no wonder SP pulled the plug so easily after SPL !!!

Su most of the todays scene was ending Arhi after the accident .. more so I like said saath nahi aayesaaz hai ... exactly what arnav had told khushi .. " I may not be physically with you but will always be there with you, Aranv aur Khushi Hamesha "

So it fit really well today ...

    2. Aaru,
I loved the way they took us through a journey of IPK through Khushi's answers and then through a journey of Arhi via the fbs...

And the perfect ending- Arhi entering a new threshold with the Raizadas blessing them...how much more perfect can an ending be?

      They were so BLOODY BRILLIANT!!!

I am really proud of IPK today.

I know an ending which actually showed them stepping over a threshold to a new beginning.

    4. Absolutely,

the way they started the FB ka silsila from the first scene of Sheesh Mahal and ended with the threshold one......

      The soul of the show.

      Su,
When the show began Khushi had tears of sorrow, today she had tears of happiness as she began her life with her own identity - no longer dependent on the crutch of a name - Kumari Gupta or Singh Raizada. Just Khushi who was comfortable with all her surname.

For a story that began to tell us of the ASR who went to love Khushi its only fitting that this song should be a song from Arnav to Khushi.....

just noticed that it was Arnav who said I love you they ended with Khushi saying it !!! a story staring with hate you ending with Love you !!!

      here are song which

      Kehte hain:
      Khuda ne iss jahaan mein
Sabhi ke liye kisi na kisi ko hai banaaya
      Har kisi ke liye
Tera milna hai uss rab ka ishaara
Maano mujhko banaya tere jaise hi kisi ke liye

Kuch toh hai tujh se raabta
Kuch toh hai tujh se raabta
Kaise hum jaane, hume kya pata
Kuch toh hai tujh se raabta

It was fate, the destiny that connected them, it was rab which played its games of hate and love, yet raabat was always was the one to bring them together !!! and that raabat is always there even when wouldn't be there.... hamesh !!!

and its this raabat with Arhi which has brought us together here ,

      Faili thi siyaan raatein
      Aaya tu subah leke
      Bewajah si zindagi mein
      Jeene ki wajah leke
      Khoya tha samandaron mein
      Tanha safina mera
      Sahilon pe aaya hai tu
      Jaane kis tarah leke

      Kuch toh hai tujhse raabta
      Kuch toh hai tujhse raabta
Kaise hum jaane humein kya pata
      Kuch toh hai tujhse raabta

      Ab kya hai kehna
      Humko hai rehna
      Jannatein bhulaa ke
      Teri baahon mein panaah leke

      Meherbaani jaate jaate
      Mujhpe kar gaya
      Guzarata sa lamha ek
      Daaman bhar gaya
      Tera nazaara mila,
      Roshan sitaara mila
      Takdeer ka Jaise
      koi Ishaara mila

      Ruthi hui khwahishon se
      Thodi si sulah leke
      Aaya tu khamoshiyon mein
      Baaton ki jirah leke
      Khoya tha samandaron mein
      Tanha safina mera
      Sahilon pe aaya hai tu
      Jaane kis tarah leke

    6. Well, i have quoted male version earlier too but the geeta version is for Khusi...she was the shining bright star today with Arnav looking on proudly...
When i saw her relax after feeling Arnav's presence around her, this song just struck me....

Na Ye Chaand Hoga, Na Taare Rahenge
      Magar Ham Hamesha, Tumhaare Rahenge
      Na Ye Chaand Hoga...............

Nazar Dhoondhati Thi, Jise Pa Liya Hai
Ummeedon Ke Phoolon Se Daaman Bhara Hai
Ye Din Ham Ko, Sab Din Se Pyaare Rahenge
      Na Ye Chaand Hoga...............

Kahun Kya Mere Dil Ka, Armaan Kya Hai
Tumhen Har Ghadi, Choomana Chaahata Hai
Kahaan Tak Bhala, Ji Ko Maare Rahenge
      Na Ye Chaand Hoga...............

Sahaara Mile Jo, Tumhaari Hansi Ka
Bhula Denge Ham, Saara Gham Zindagi Ka
      Tumhaare Liye Hain, Tumhaare Rahenge
      Na Ye Chaand Hoga...............

    7. Am going crazy today ...

Its been ages I have qouted some qoutes which lets me describe the essense of the story .. and Nicholas Sparks being my favourite come it comes to love stories ... here are few

“I finally understood what true love meant...love meant that you care for another person's happiness more than your own, no matter how painful the choices you face might be.” - Dear John , so well for todays episode ..

“Sometimes you have to be apart from people you love, but that doesn't make you love them any less. Sometimes you love them more.”
― Nicholas Sparks, The Last Song

“My daddy said, that the first time you fall in love, it changes you forever and no matter how hard you try, that feeling just never goes away.”
― Nicholas Sparks, The Notebook - thats for Arnav Singh Raizada ...

“They didn’t agree on much. In fact, they didn’t agree on anything. They fought all the time and challenged each other ever day. But despite their differences, they had one important thing in common. They were crazy about each other.”
      ― Nicholas Sparks, The Notebook
      The real essense of ARHI

AND A FINAL ONE for me to make peace with the end !!!

“This is not a good-bye, my darling, this is a thank-you. Thank you for coming into my life and giving me joy, thank you for loving me and receiving my love in return. Thank you for the memories I will cherish forever. But most of all, thank you for showing me that there will come a time when I can eventually let you go.”
      ― Nicholas Sparks

    10. Some of my fav quotes, ignore spelling mistakes, i'm typing from my notebook

“All of a sudden this shooting star went by, and all I could think was that they were listening to us somehow.”

“Just when you think it can't get any worse, it can. And just when you think it can't get any better, it can.”
― Nicholas Sparks, At First Sight

“You can't live your life for other people. You've got to do what's right for you, even if it hurts some people you love.”
― Nicholas Sparks, The Notebook (For BS)

“I love you. I am who I am because of you. You are every reason, every hope, and every dream I've ever had, and no matter what happens to us in the future, everyday we are together is the greatest day of my life. I will always be yours. ”
      ― Nicholas Sparks, The Notebook

“We fell in love, despite our differences, and once we did, something rare and beautiful was created. For me, love like that has only happened once, and that's why every minute we spent together has been seared in my memory. I'll never forget a single moment of it.”
― Nicholas Sparks, The Notebook (ArHI, though and through)

“The best love is the kind that awakens the soul and makes us reach for more, that plants a fire in our hearts and brings peace to our minds. And that's what you've given me. That's what I'd hoped to give you forever”

“You are the answer to every prayer I've offered. You are a song, a dream, a whisper, and I don't know how I could have lived without you for as long as I have.”
― Nicholas Sparks, The Notebook (Arnav, even if he neve believed in god)

“Our story has three parts: a beginning, a middle, and an end. And although this is the way all stories unfold, I still can't believe that ours didn't go on forever.”
― Nicholas Sparks, Dear John ( i cant blv IPKKND couldn't go on forever)

“People come, people go – they’ll drift in and out of your life, almost like characters in a favorite book. When you finally close the cover, the characters have told their story and you start up again with another book, complete with new characters and adventures. Then you find yourself focusing on the new ones, not the ones from the past.”
― Nicholas Sparks, The Rescue (I'm hoping to do this some day soon :))

“You always have a choice. It's just that some people make the wrong one.”

Hidden meanings, nuances, subtlety - hallmarks of the IPK we all fell in love with. That is why wheneevr it showed signs of getting in our faces, we rebelled.

This onscreen couple was such that they could have kept on showing us their story and we may have kept on following them for a long time to come. All they had to do was throw in thodi si takraar, dher saara pyaar, some KMH from the family and one Rabba Vey :)

    (La lullaby, la lullaby)

    I have to go (goodbye)
    I have to go (lullaby)
    I have to go (goodbye)
    And leave you alone

    But always know (goodbye)
    Always know (brown eyes)
    Always know (goodbye)
    That I love you so

I love you so (goodbye lullaby)
I love you so, oh (goodbye)
I love you so (goodbye brown eyes)
    I love you so (goodbye)
    I love you so
    I love you so

    Goodbye brown eyes
    Goodbye my love

  11. It was a beautiful end..honestly I was not expecting such flawless editing. SI and the family absolutely nailed it. Somewhere I felt bad for BS that if he ever was attached to the show he will feel really bad... for not giving the last shot...talk about karma!
All in all a beautiful end. I have been a silent reader mostly, but have enjoyed all the discussions.
Praying for SI to get a powerful role soon..she is a bundle of talent!

  12. "Innocence" by avril lavigne

Waking up I see that everything is OK
The first time in my life and now it's so great
Slowing down I look around and I am so amazed
I think about the little things that make life great

    I wouldn't change a thing about it
    This is the best feeling

    [Chorus]
    This innocence is brilliant
I hope that it will stay
    This moment is perfect
    Please don't go away
    I need you now
And I'll hold on to it
Don't you let it pass you by

I found a place so safe, not a single tear
The first time in my life and now it's so clear
Feel calm, I belong, I'm so happy here
It's so strong and now I let myself be sincere

    I wouldn't change a thing about it
    This is the best feeling

    [Chorus]

It's a state of bliss, you think you're dreaming
It's the happiness inside that you're feeling
It's so beautiful it makes you wanna cry
It's a state of bliss, you think you're dreaming
It's the happiness inside that you're feeling
It's so beautiful it makes you wanna cry

It's so beautiful it makes you wanna cry
    This innocence is brilliant
    Makes you wanna cry
    This innocence is brilliance
    Please don't go away
    Cause I need you now
And I'll hold on to it
Don't you let it pass you by

Krish - mentally i added the first saree (calendar shoot), diwali, nanitaal, shots, bangles by the poolside, Teri meri!, holi, HR, the i love you, the i am sorry, the run to him hug, the 'tumhari naak laal...' to it

i also added the fights - GH, the resignation, the finding out about the engagement, the 'tip samajh kay', the first wedding, the throwing her out and pacing the room like a wounded animal, the airport - but those i then deleted -coz it had to be a happy ending - if these guys had been given a proper ME, am sure we would have seen the best episode with all FBs in place

    2. For Arhi- one of my old favourites.

Tu jo mere sur mein -2
Sur mila le, sang gaa le
    To zindagi ho jaaye safal

Tu jo mere man ka -2
Ghar bana le, man laga le
    To bandagi ho jaaye safal

    Tu jo mere sur mein…

Chaandni raato mein, haath liye haatho mein
Chaandni raato mein, haath liye haatho mein
Doobe rahe ek doosre ki, ras bhari baato mein

Tu jo mere sang men -2
    Muskura le, gunguna le
    To zindagi ho jaaye safal
    Tu jo mere man ka...
    Tu jo mere sur mein...

Kyu ham bahaaro se, khushiya udhaar le
kyu ham bahaaro se, khushiya udhaar le
Kyu na milke ham khud hi apna jeewan sudhaar le

Tu jo mere path mein -2
    Deep jalaale ho ujaale
    To bandagi ho jaaye safal

Tu jo mere sur men -2
Sur mila le, sang gaa le
    To zindagi ho jaaye safal

I know. Yesudas has won the maximum no: of national awards for best singer with 5 silvere lotuses.
      SP comes close with 6.

      I love them both.
I heard someone said this about Yesudas. Sometime in future they will invent these gadgets which can catch sound waves from the beginning of time. (Apparently these sound waves never die or something according to NASA) So 200 years from now, they will hear Yesudas' voice and will be amazed that there existed a golden voice like this! (LOL. I bet there are lots of singers who fit that category, just a cute quote I remember.)
And these songs are dedicated to you since I managed to irk the SRK fan in you.

LOL. I have successfully irritated one Aamir fan and one SRK fan in two days.

I am the baby bird that the bees love
You are the woman who wears flowers in her hair everyday

The sins I have committed die with me
If I can watch you live a full life, that will be enough for me

"Raatein dason dishaaon kahengi apni kahaaniyaan

Devasabaathalam - yes bcos the entire song is an unfolding of teh sapt sur and beautifully showcased with diff ragas with the end stating it all

      Anandam Anthaanandam Jaagadaanadam Sangeetham!

If you liked these check out the songs from Aaran Thamburan (6th zamindar) esp harimuraliravam. Picturization is not so great but the song is soulful.

In the Bharatham song is poignant bcos the character who is singing has just coem to know his older bro is dead but he has to pretend all is well so that teh sister's wedding goes off well for it had already broken once before and she may not have been able to take another. Only him and his fiance know.

  17. ok one more loop closed today - if the story had continued - ASR would have died - they had shot all this before - all these "Agar aap nahi hotay.." type dialogues!

Am so glad they edited out the 'hand flying to cheek' gesture - seems so fake and done to death by all winners! - but how could they not edit it out - this is IPK - its different!! :D (please note i refuse to use the word 'was' - that's the beauty of the net - Arhi will live on forever!)

Only grudge - the team could have shown the rest of the people in the crowning frame - just to add on to the feeling of an audience and in a way say Goodbye from the team!

    1. Monu,

I shall admit ever since they got married, I was waiting for destiny to separate them on some context - nothing flippant but yes a judaai till they met again. The female RV.

But when I heard death that too before Khushi's eyes, my first thot was DM would not be so cruel to her. But wait would she also not stop breathing the instant she saw him go away from her or would he be in a coma and hope remained and the day the hope died, she would stop breathing?
Perhaps a supposed crash, some personal effects and a Khushi who sensed him through it all.
He eventually came back / revived and the story ended.

But a cold fear gripped me too thinking what if they did not bring him back. My heart rebelled that Khushi should again have to bear the brunt of separation while she held her hopes high.

So today I was happy for I saw Khushi who set out to prove herself and in the process once aagin realized how much she was loved, how central she was to this family, how integral she was to Arnav's life and how much he loved her. She voiced her love and professed it was what gave her courage and accepted that he and his love had always been her strength.

One night she had asked him aakhir kis cheez ka matlab hai and today she told him what mattered to her the most, always had - their love.

It was in that hallway that they said to each other Khushi, main aur tum - hume pata hai humeshaa na, Always!

      Delete
    2. Oh and Monu,

I realized that I got my shiddat that when this post wedding phase of the story evolves there will be a time when Khushi will relaize that her journey with her laad governor was one of love always from the start and he will have a true love story to tell - that last scene of them and the FBs that is what it was wasn't it?

I said the same thing yesterday!
      San should be his PR.
Or better still, he should just stick around her and become her raakhi bro (and do more shows with her).

Acc to Aamir Khan's nayee soch ki TALAASH, brothers should tie raakhi on their sisters and demand that they should be protected too.

Or Barun can easily get it done by San for free in exchange for all the stale food she made him eat! Oh, I am going to miss this pair. But I am glad it ended like this.

    3. Krish,

When it comes to Tamil songs and love there is one which has a special place in my heart. Powerful vocals, simple chords in the bg, and a rising tempo that reaches a crescendo much like the waves that crash against the fortress wall used while filming the song.

That too was a diffiicult love that was tested and tried yet it triumphed :)

I thought Mona should so not watch it ...they had a song picturised on Zindagee ki yahi reet hai...even I didn't like that song there and wondered if Gul has really gone bonkers!

    4. Yesterday's episode of QH was one of the worse ever. The trip and fall of the leads was such a dampner and the monologues by them on their beds was even worse. Even KSG was so off colour. Actually the screen play had a lot of potential but they messed up in all other departments - the location (so artificial), the dialogues, the acting and the direction. what should have been a magical moment between the leads was just meh...

I agree with Mona. The show has a more theatrical feel (with exaggerated dialogue delivery and expressions) it just fails to tug at one's heart strings. I read Gul is directing this one. She should stick to production and work on her flaws there rather than do direction. She clearly falls short.

    6. just caught up with the episodes

      My take on QH...

I have finally figured out what is wrong with Gul Khan – she cant ADD!!!! – so the hero’s (Asad) parents got married 31 years ago – have been separated for 17 therefore were together for 14! He being the eldest, am assuming the hero is 30. His brother has completed college –assuming they are only referring to BA – he should be around 20/21 years. Therefore Asad’s Dad (AD) had both wives for a while – either he kept it hidden for a few years or both were ok with it – then why did he leave wife no 1? If both wives weren’t together, then how did the younger brother grow up holding on to elder brother? – unless there is some other background – GK is def not doing very good math!!

      What I could not stand:

      - Allah Miyan!!! What is wrong with this girl – she does not talk she shrieks!! And she is rude and careless and not at all respecting of the fact that someone has kept her as a guest – she throws food on the floor and is downright rude. You don’t have to fight with everyone to get your point across. Sorry Su – did not think she was intelligent - she is roaming around a city with an old burnt photo – does not have the brains to get the pic restored, enlarged and copied so that it tells her more – Does not have the brains to ask the right people, her hosts, the police, museums (she could come up with any excuse) but asks random people on the streets. She was sweet to notice dilshad was sad and baked a cake for her but left the kitchen in a mess for Dilshad to clean – that I found inexcusable!! (and I don’t compare her to KKG simply coz she is a bad actress and no way comparable to the SI. KKG would also stand up for others but never without finding out what the person had done wrong – here the heroine is helping the dad without even asking him why his wife is angry with him!)

      - Don’t know why the father has been portrayed as a ‘bechar’ who is suffering and missing his family – he lives fairly happily for 17 years – was busy producing more kids and Now he is he is all “oh I made a mistake” and I have suffered for so long – apparently he did not even ask for his kids, provide for tehm for 17 years and now has the audacity to cheat wife no 2 – (and he is being assisted by the heroine) – the spineless two timing creep!!!

      - And an uncle out of the movies – he enters – coughs and all women become erect and fidget with their dupattas!!

      Positive:
      - The scene about going to the lounge “Good to go to a new place but come back before 8:00” – have heard stuff like this before :D

      - Very good characterization of the male leads – Elder brother – Loved his relationship with his mom – the way he talks to her their conversations, liked that despite his anger he let her decide if she wanted to meet her ex, says sorry only for her – also Love that the guy is a neatness freak !! yippee – might actually have some ‘clean sets’ till the end! – his flaw is that he is too stuck up on jeans (really?? Everyone wears jeans – short tight revealing tops, shorts are a problem – not jeans for sure!) - And i think he is becoming rudder by teh day to make the heroine look good!
Younger brother – very caring of the family, sisters but a bad bad actor! (how I wish Akash had such a clear cut role!)

      - Grand sets (but am so jealous – why do they get this and IPK does not!)

      - The mothers – one silly, sweet, simple and very attached to her kids the other – the perfect strong woman – don’t know the actor but wife no 2 (if she really is not that dumb) is doing a very good job – she and the hero are the only two bearable actors

      - Diction better than I expected – no where near perfect – but better than I expected!

i was thinking there was no show before on TV that had so many people hooked..even through the bad times...

this show has given me amazing on-screen moments and equally amazing off-screen ones..every time i watched the gang have fun..i had fun along with them..

and i also found so many like minded people, made new friends...some of whom i have met..some i may not meet but will still stay in touch (as long as this blog is there!!).. just like they did while giving us good scenes...

isn't it amazing that a TV show has actually brought people closer..and both in the real world!!!

i would like to take this moment to say thank you to all of you here. IPK was no doubt a phenomenal show, but it wouldn't have been the same without you all.

everytime khushi goes OTT, i can feel Dia having a major head desk moment.

everytime i see a radhe krishna idol or painting, i can feel su dying to discuss it to no ends. trust me, if not for su, i wouldnt have even noticed those paintings.

everytime shyam abused khushi, i knew opti will be there to raise the issue.

everytime the stained carpet made an entry, i know mona would complain.

if their was a wardrobe malfunction, gargi would never fail to point it out

and whenever akash gets a dialogue i would do a mental fist pump for shwetha! on the other hand whenever BS failed to have his hair cut (almost always, towards the end) i used to thing, man thu to aaj gaya.

and if by any chance i catch a blooper, i would wonder Jaya must be going mad with all the bloopers.

eveytime i dont understand the significance of some scene, i'll always find sandy with a beautiful version of how it all connects.

and uj was there always to bring out the symbolism in seemingly random scenes

everytime i felt the cvs didnt deliver, mads would have beat me in ranting about the same.

and everytime something amazing was delivered, rekha would have made it even more magical with all of her song dedications.

add to all of this various povs of anita, geetanjali, aarthi, ayesha, aki.... the list goes on. i remember the days we had almost 60 comments even before dia made her quick edit. i cant believe i made so many friends, half of whom i dont even know the names. but i'm glad i found you all. before i came here, life seemed like a speeding train, it looked like before i could grasp at something, it flew past me. but when ever i came to R&R i felt grounded. life stil is going at a break-neck speed, but i know i can always come here for some sort of comfort. thanks for that! i would forever be grateful for this virtual cafe and all the friends i made here :)

  28. Dia,

Will wait for the full edit later. There is a hangover of gloom due to the incidents of the recent past but watch it without any of it running through your mind. Yes they were not together for the most bit but in that last scene, that one last memory, it is their 2 smiling faces and they were indeed together when it was taken, infact they were all together then.

Their story will always feel incomplete because there were so many shades that were yet to be discovered. They were individually good but together they were a powerhouse (as you have said too..) what would have been and how it would have been I have wondered too but again I ask you don't think of all that happened outside, just focus on their ajeeb duniya - blooper ridden, poorly "production valued", massively monitored all inclusive yet it is their duniya. One we have loved, fought and cried over.

It has been a memorable journey and perhaps the destination leaves us empty because there is more travel in store for Arnav and Khushi - yahaan na sahi kisi aur duniya main.

  30. :( Sad that it came to this - Watched this week's episodes after learning that it was stopping..

However, they did a good job ending the story on a high note and a decent final episode thanks to some great FBs and creative editing :)

Wished they could have ended with Khushi doing her victory walk and falling into ASR's arms like the first time..but hey atleast they ended with the scene after "itni bhi chot nahi lagi ki apni biwi ko utha na saku" - I think it was Dia who said that would have been a perfect end of the show shot :)

Thank you IPK for giving some great times for a year and half - before you lost your way and lost me - but this was the first show I got addicted to at that level -All thanks to Sanaya - and watching Sanaya's interview yesterday, I was mad - PH , Channel whaever jhamela they had - there is no excuse for treating their team that way and pulling the rug at such short notice- do they not have any contract limitations of minimum notice period ? Lots of lessons for the channel, Production house and actors to learn.. And it was deplorable they made BS the scapegoat for their incompetence. If BS wanted to leave and he had given them ample notice, how can they put out a banner saying he is leaving so we are stopping ...I am sure you girls have already ranted on this to death...

Thank you Sanaya and Barun, and the whole cast and crew - wishing you all the very best and hope to see you all soon on screen in different show :)

Sanaya - next time pick a production house that actually promotes/lobbies for you at the awards - it is is atrocious that you did not win an award for this role- you deserve better girl :)

    Rekha,
Jeevan se bhari - Khushi ke liye perfect that - she was the soulful siren, she was the magnet that drew me in :)

When that epi aired from which that last shot was taken today I had quoted from Ever After - Desire.Defy.Escape!

And that is eactly what Arnav and Khushi seem to have done throughout this journey.

As for happily ever after for us, it is more important that they lived and we all lived it with them I think :)

    2. Hugs back Sandy :)

Yeah I remember your Desire, Defy, Escape quote - sums it up nicely ..

Glad they stuck with the happy ending - so that the SKD remains intact for us who got so attached to the characters ..:)

It was shot of romanticism at the end of the work day, an escape from AD for all of us ..and a beautiful escape while it lasted...:)

  31. Srisri,
You took the words out of my mouth....

All I can think of is Grace Under Pressure and how Sanaya has emerged through this whole phase as the one who is full of this ability to hold it together ...Like Khushi herself, she held it together right till the very end and did it so beautifully.....I pray for this girl...she deserves to grow from strength to strength....she is truly DM's child!

Integrity - I admire Barun's honesty...he wanted to pursue other opportunities and he behaved like a professional. He turned in his notice and has moved on. I wish him luck in whatever he chooses to do. Both BS and SI have been class acts in the way they performed their roles, what they delivered as Arnav and Khushi in spite of the poor story line and shoddy production values. It is due to them that I stayed riveted to this show.
The PH has shown a lack of Integrity in their handling of the story, the cast and the events surrounding Barun's departure. Having created this amazing story, the PH lacked the honesty to be true to the characters and the story. Had they been honest, the leads would not have had to carry the entire burden, there would have been viable parallel tracks, the other actors would not have been idle, this would have allowed the leads to take some reasonable time off. Or it was an inability to sell their vision to the network. Either way, they have a lot of soul-searching and growing up to do. A way to differentiate themselves from the Ekta-style of serials, would be to come up with tight story-lines and wrap up the narrative within 18 months. Actors leaving serials are so common-place...that is Life. This situation was different due to the amazing popularity of the leads, but again the PH and the channel seem to have underestimated the popularity of its lead actors; which brings me to the lack on integrity on the part of the network in managing this whole situation. After having said that the character is larger than the actor, they used BS and SI to sell tickets for their event in Birmingham and then decide to pull the plug on the show. The ticker message saying that Barun was leaving to pursue films was a cheap trick and in plain bad taste.

This is why I say that SI and BS have conducted themselves admirably....Devi Maiyya, inka raksha karna!

Love you all....Dia...IPK was made more special by this blog...this is what made it memorable for me...I still go back and watch episodes and read your posts! I have already started watching from the beginning again! Need to see ODC on a regular basis!

Nice interpretation - if she understands that she ran out of time because she lost her grip on the flowers(story) - which is why she ran out of time - not that the judges were unfair...

And I hope she understood - the mainstay of the show was Khushi's character and that in trying to glamorize ASR and butchering Khushi's character was counterproductive

      Delete
    3. J,

      nice thot......

Sri....the issue i don't think is about the glomorisation of ASR...ASR was not glamorised or glorified....it was a character through whom this story was to be unveiled to viewers largely...ASR was the premise of Gul's story....and so its only fair she stayed true to it for a large part...Coming to Khushi's character who was to be centre of ASR every thot, became a middle of the road one, almost unrecognisable as time went by....

my inkling is makers's and medium's sensibilities never matched on how ASR was to perceive Khushi or how Khushi was to behave after a certain point in the story...Natasha's outburst is probably symptomatic of it....i agree with J on this...

Its purely to San's credit that K remained lovable to us and we all found it easy to accept that ASR loved her any which way...

I was reading Sush's thread on IF..where she made a lovely point of the diversity of audience that IPK had..
Frankly, I think the medium never really understood the diversity of its audience..or maybe they understood it too wel.that there were people who saw it for ARHI, people who saw it for ASR, people for Khushi, people who saw it for Barun, people who saw it for Sanaya, people who saw it for a diff story, people saw it for a the promise of their story, and so on .....yes..its tuf to formulate a strategy that makes everyone happy..maybe they need to go to the drawing board to check what went wrong or should i say, do they already know what went right for them in all this? In showbiz, the show must go on!! A show ending does not signal that...so i presume the ending of the show was necessary for the continuity of their bus plans....

      Delete
    4. Rekha,
I understand Gul's idea that it was ASR's story - but she faltered in executing it that way...Khushi was supposed to be the catalyst - the change-agent for a strong character - it was even more critical to keep Khushi's character strong and crystal clear...else it destroys credibility for both characters...
If she had done it right, it would have been easier for her to phase out either Barun or Sanaya if needed - the problem was that the characters became weak / ambiguous..only held together by the fabulous actors..we made adjustments to our interpretations to make sense of the shifts in characters till we lost track of what we started with - confuse if not convince seemed to be the motto...
Lots of lessons for them to learn - I was putting my proj.mgmt hat on and looking at this mess and wrote up something - will post it in a bit :)

    5. From my post elsewhere looking at this as a case study - my take on what went wrong -not from the creative aspect but from the management aspect:)

The problem was the mismanagement of the social media PR...and how badly they underestimated the power of the fan following and the hysteria...

This serial was an internet phenomenon for Indian TV - In a bid to sustain interest in the show they started feeding tidbits of story lines into the social media..

Did they miscalculate or what!!! The minute a leak came out the fandom would whip up into a frenzy and make their opinion felt ..

The team would then scramble to alter their story line, reshoot, re-edit , rework their story to suit fan sentiment - it was a circus for the last 5 months or so:-)Sound familiar ?

It is the ultimate project management and design nightmare - serving a million sponsors who change their mind about the product to build by the minute..

Classic case of losing the conceptual integrity of what you started to build because of all the forces pulling in different directions. If you do not manage communication and stakeholder expectations right - you are bound to fall short

Exit of actors is a known, highly probable risk in this industry - not planning an exit strategy and setting expections with the stakeholders(fandom) is what did them in

    6. Sri / Rekha,

      I like teh thoughts penned.

I agree the channel perhaps never really understood how diverse and audience their story had - across continents and cultures and all ages. Like Rekha sadi so many different reasons but the one thing in common being the Arnav and Khushi story.

Sri you mentioned 5 months, good I was gonna bring it up when you said project management. When exactly did Khushi really start to waffle as a character I would say around that time. She was ok even through Gupta house and kidnapping. In fact she was very strong during kidnapping so her sudden waffling soon after was sorely felt. 5 months ago was when I recall the rumours began in earnest - arshad khan leaving, LM not coming back, DB wanting out and so on. Whether the project managers intended the waffling or were too lazy to make an effort I can only guess.

Social Media - an unknown to channel in terms of scale for this show who has jsut woken up to it but a known to the PH whose earlier show is also said to have had an international reach and they have contact points for all their shows. People call it a bid for transperancy I would say choice to be in the public eye. They knew a leak whips up fenzy. If you pause and think, the spoilers gained momentum after the hate marriage especially after BS movie break was announced. Till then it was tolerable and teh story kept us going laregly with the spoiler pics.

Yes mismanagement for sure bcos they stopped posting pics and that meant shooting was happening last minute.
I would love to think it was bcos of me/audience but if tehy created it then they were the ones changing it as and when too. Audience could only give them a pulse btu they also sat and watched things they did not want as long as it made story sense.

Like u said Sri - they lost integrity in something they started to build and instead made teh actors bigger than the characters in the last 5 months aiding the process of making it difficult to see the actor and character apart with ease.

    7. good point sandy.. and once the actors were biggeer than the characters, (given the fact that even comedy did not fall flat... from the angsty beginnings, i think the creatives thought that they would lose viewers if they showed comedy.. but sanaya and barun and even daljeet and karan were so good at comedy that IPK became a comedy serial, and yet the audience did not quit.. the cinematographer, the director.. no change affected the online audience..

in fact, most of the online audience drop-off happened in the dadi phase.. even though arshi were in love, the dadi-saas and her atyachaar gave indigestion to the viewers. add to it the anji-snake(DDR) lovestory, garima's perma-shock face and clueless arnav, the story stepped into realms of incoherence. (IMHO) only barun and sanaya managed to keep the show afloat.. and then they got wed. what is there left to show after the leads got married?

like sandy said, thoda sa takraar, dher saara pyaar.. did they know how to weave a story around that? did they want to? of course, we hear that the head of the CT did not. and the rest of the CT were offended. who knows the truth? why should i spend my time worrying about it?

right now, SP has ended the show on a point where a season 2 is indeed possible. at the end of the story, finally, khushi has won the MrsIndia title, she knows that she is capable.. she has grown into the role of Mrs Arnav Raizada.

so now, what can we see in a story where the lead pair is rich, happily married and equally capable?

Can I please ROFL at the voiceover - now salary tidbit too - gosh is it at all about the show to any of them.

I liked how Mami said - it could have been run and if it was not there would be a reason.

I also like SI saying dont want to give importance to people who have led to this decision for the decision is done.

And yes it is sudden for the crew and humaari bhi duaa hai ki tehy all find work soon - after all impressive show on their resumes should boost chances.

Honestly I think media should now give it a rest. Channel and fans are not interested. It was good when it lasted and it saddened people when it ended. Bas!

As for fans, they should all go see Rann and Peepli Live. Where a spoken word or a picture can be twisted beyond context in this age of digitization, when the MMS of a rape is move avidly watched than debating justice for a girl, when 26/11 blasts coverage is more imp than nto blowing the strategy of the troops, people are asking me to believe in the might of the pen.

Forget BS ab toh SI is again being painted as being insensitive -trying to alienate people who loved her?

The people within the industry who understand these moves and decisions are seeing the whole issue their way and not how the media is showing it. Media is just for us paagal audience who would like to feel God in real life especially after the recent movie OMG and Paresh Rawal's role.
BS being loyal or committment phobic we shall not know for sure and can only guess but there are many who would know and vouch in favoour or against. So it is them that will count for his future career. As for us, now poori duniya knows that BS has an audience chunk that shall follow his blindly - much like Sanaya's captive audience who followed her from MJHT. That makes him a good asset to have in the bigger scheme.

Interestingly on the forum many say they started watching the show bcos they were SI fans and gradually started to like ASR and therefore BS and then the jodi.

    1. Rekha,

I am sorry I could not join you all here but shaadi has started and have to go and show my head everywhere. Caught the Friday episode at 11pm and really enjoyed it.

I thought they had done a good job considering that the actors were not there.
But cannot accept that the PH was serious to continue with the serial.

Saw the ad for another serial that I end up catching up on, yeh rishta kya kehlata hai and that is synonymous of serial makers actually serious about continuing with a serial. New people continuously getting ntroduced, new tracks, new stories starting ending, lead going for his shaadi and honeymoon taking a long break shown as being in an accident and coma and a news article at the right time saying they will go fr a leap with the heroine taking over. That shows a PH serious abut continuing.

Two months back an actor gives his notice and they could not respect their own character ASR and give him proper closure.

When a child cries for something, we distract the child by showing something more interesting, not hold press conferences to the entire family saying why we are denying the child something and why we are good parents after all by denying the child something.

And I just can't believe that they were serious about their product. I Would have loved to hold BS responsible for quitting etcetEra If I had thought they were serious in continuing.

I personally loved ASR AND would not have minded even Viraf replacing as ASR.

Anyway I loved the ending and I blame star plus totally for giving a four day notice knowing fully well that the actor was not in town and if known the Ph could easily have shot a proper last episode instead of wasting time shooting a death scene which was not needed. Cutting your nose to spite your face.

Loved all the posts and have Gone through all the posts the whole Of yesterday. Came to know of this place quite late and hope to keep coming here.

    2. Agree with Usha here. The producers here were not keen on taking forward the show. Had they been little considerate they could have taken this story to high point and at least could have closed it on a high note.

Yes in Yeh rishta the lead actor is out of action for couple of weeks following his marriage and honeymoon. The producers are taking the story ahead with a leap and with growth in the characters. And here the producers had 2 months and they couldn't think of one decent track to get BS out of the show and take the story ahead. This shows they give a damn about their own story and show. And now they can blame whatever on the fans and the audience, the truth is the show shut down because the producers themselves wanted to dump the show.

    3. Usha,

I am neither excited about the end of the serial or its continuity...For me IPK ending with ARHI meant a putting an end to something that was just getting worse every day (even tho it had very bright moments that lives on in our memory)and as far as its continuity is concerned I had mentioned earlier...it was a case of the medium working to get my attention back....(however, immodest that sounds)

Since u brought up the YRKKH comparison....i feel compelled to write....becos i see a point in it.A GEC has to consider many things...one among that keeping a working thing in running condition.....why fix it if it ain't broke?

YRKKH kind of serials can go on and on until GEC tires of it or the makers tire of it...they will have a steady following, each group of that fan base watching it for diff reasons, ranging from relieving oneself from boredom to watching it for combating day to day problems etc.....
IPK was, imo, not meant by makers to be that....they had an end in mind as also a definitive path..but channels kept continuity of plans in mind esp ones that look to be working in perfect condition in their assessment. (which is where the channel and maker clashed, imo)

So, a medium would probably think why don't they look to continue something that has worked so well for them, in addition to adding a new target aud......they looked to chip and chop keeping those things in mind as also their standpoint of what the channel perhaps stands for....female characters to the fore....

so far so gud for the channel except that they may have miscalculated that IPK was probably one serial that made their male character very popular among its audience(largely the overseas ones)....and added to that their trump card was not playing ball....now further add the tadka of the fan base creating some nuisance value..

To my mind the fan hysteria has no real impact except bring home to the medium a very important point that not all serials can be seen in the YRKKH light.....

So, if they wish to continue to project what they really want to... that is a long running serial they had to make a clean break.....give the serial an end....to cut the umbilical cord it had with the male character...The reason many serials on SP project female characters is with a purpose.....they have a largely female audience, who watch with avid interest how women take positions in their reel lives(however convoluted they be) and manage their lives in hostile, or regimented environments....thats their USP...having a strong male character doesn't do much for them, only helps get in largely the teeny bopper gen in for some time but they are a fickle audience...they are drooling on BS/ASR now, they can move to the next just as easily...yeh umr ka takaza hain!! I agree IPK did have a section of the aud who connected to the story in a big way but the fact remains that such a story comes with a shelf life....(the convergence of viewpoints of fans and channel, maker may not happen at the same time)

On a emotional standpoint for the people working with the serial, it must have come as a shock that they were being told that they cannot continue on a project becos the powers-that-be did not think it was possible to continue becos of one member no longer being in the cast...well how much of it is a complaint one can have from a faceless cyberspace audience is another matter....fandom is like that only...they attach and detach on a whimsical basis...to me its seems more reasonable to ask real people the accountability questions, if there are really any in this matter...

      Delete
    4. This is not to mean that GEC doesn't see value in the BS wave...on the contrary, they would see a lot of value in it only that the shape of tat role may change in future not necessarily the kind we have seen so far....it could be something as simple as getting them the buy-in in other market segments...
in business and politics there are no permanent friends or foes....

    5. Rekha, I so agree with each and every word you said. I never ever thought ipkknd was the type of serial that could go on and on. It is definitely not a YRKKH. I see yrkkh and then dont see it, same with balika vadhu. I see it and then i dont see it. Whereas i did not miss one episode f ipkknd.

That is why I am surprised why not one real person is held accountable for this pink slip and it so easy to blame a faceless cyber audience. I like the way you have explained it. So turning on the 200 odd fans who must have phoned spending their money is so unfair.

I remember during Geet, the whole online audience without exception was waiting for Geet to get justice but then suddenly they showed a track wherein the main villain who was responsible for the whole mess was pardoned off by Geet and the makers said you fans only told us that dev had to be pardoned. We were all shocked. And then the story went downhill and nothing could be salvaged. People left the show and never came back. We stayed and stayed and hit our heads at the incongruous tracks because we were addicted and stayed till the channel closed. The equivalent here would be a Shyam getting pardoned because he was anjali's husband. Thankfully here they continued to keep him as the villian.

You have written very well what I wanted to write but cld not.

      Delete
    6. Actually now with the IPK wave, I think the channels and the audience have woken up to the M&B kind of serials - one which has definite characteristics written for the leads. No one wants to watch the same old bahu trying to be the ideal bahu, saas torturing the new girl in house and kitchen politics. And I think IMO people are also fed up with Ekta kind of twists wherein the leads separate/marry others and separate and come together again. The intelligent audience now wants characters which they can relate to.

4Lions did come up with good characteristics but they lost their interest midway. And the strange thing is that people who have watched the show had better understanding of the leads than the creatives themselves and suddenly the creatives were lost. They didn't know what they wanted to show. This is the same thing that happened in Geet too. Geet fights with all and sundry to keep her unborn baby but then they showed the miscarriage of Geet and from there on it was downhill for the show. And eventually the villian was pardoned and not only that he was married to Geet's cousin sister. I was completely put off with the stupid turns that serial was taking. In that sense I am thankful that IPK closed with ArHi rather than becoming one of the stupid serials on air.

The only thing I would be happy is if other PHs wake up and seeing the wave of IPK cash in on SARUN and get a good M&B show albeit with a fixed shelf time but good costumes, good storyline and taut direction. That would be icing on the cake.

I tried seeing honge juda na hum on Sony and could not see more than two episodes despite loving the actor whom I saw in maryada and watched that serial at the completely odd time that it was telecast spoiling my whole sleep pattern and my schedule for the next day. So even the actor being cast in a love story could make me see the serial. So it has to be the right combination finally.

    8. Rekha / Usha / Sarada,

Good points. I like what Rekha said - umr ka takaaza is the name of the game - no permanent friends or foes in most cases. Who knows 3 years later head honchos at Star change and they may even do a show with the PH again.

Rekha, more than female viewing audience what Star will gradually begin to realize is the audience these days - even TV audience is tuning in for the story. The TRP topper says it. There the male and female leads both have a role in teh story and it balances the give and take between them. M&B is another genre as can be seen from other channels too. Singling bonds. The name of the game now seems to be rishtey rather than naari. And more so from the men's point of view. That is perhaps why the saas bahu type stry with ek doosre se wrapped up in such short time.

The actor's recall value will ensure initial eyeballs but to keep the show stable the content being shown will need to measure up.Looks like the mindless neevr ending days of soaps will gradually ease out and seasons of soaps may be run into Indian telly.

Its an interesting world out there...

    1. Fully agree with the TM. So many unclosed loop holes and glaring character inconsistencies marred the show. Arnav who hated noise was supposed to have been a star drummer (the noisiest of instruments) in college. Khushi who preached against the use of crackers to La, was enthusiastic about bursting them to cheer Aarav. Khushi who was so concerned about Aarav not having his father, does not hang around to play Aarav's mum once Sheetal leaves and was too busy trying to be Mrs. India instead, all to prove a point to Arnav. The beauty pagent itself was such a joke. I was wondering about why hey chose this track till I cuaght one of the ads between the breaks for Femina Miss India. So IPK was used to promote one of the sponsers of the show or what?

Anyway, since I kenw what to expect from the PH, I wasn't too disappointed. I still cherish all the intense and memorable scenes they gave us. After all our minds can weave the tracks we wanted to see but did not get to see due to the PH's and CV's laziness in completing what they started, even when they had the opportunities to do so.

    2. opti, what you just said underlined my theory that IPK 1.0 ended at the rewedding, episode 353.. (somehow the CT emphasized that point when they showed that griha pravesh scene as the climax. i was looking behind my back, if big brother/devimaiiya was watching..) everything after the rewedding was one big joke. not the CCTVs, not the drama for Di's anniv, please let me never remember shyam's finale, the the rakshabandhan was a caricature, the disaster of a birthday, the whole shital track, then Mrs. India.. (i dont know how they managed to make some magical arhi moments in between, but they did, solely thanks to sarun) anyway, the last 40 episodes were what lost all the loyal fans, as we here at R&R can prove, seeing the number of comments on each episode.

and opti, the CVs laziness/inability to complete tracks does not look like it will be a problem in QH, there the tracks are haphazard already!

  42. Tried to put into words what I think about IPK and R&R – failed miserably – so if you can, bear with my ramblings
Dia and gang – am not going to thank you all for R&R – not right now – not as a goodbye – coz me is going nowhere!! IPK may end but R&R is definitely not! – so will keep pestering you all as usual and will thank you some other day!!
    IPK –
About its end – I for one do not think that the actors or the audience are to blame – have said this time and again – BS wanted out, gave in his papers, served his time = free to go. Audience for all the crazy few thousand who wrote and called – they were not the only ones that killed the show – there had to be other reasons for its closure – the fact is, the story was being neglected – near perfect build ups would fizzle out with wet crackers (phooooosssss!!!) – and no follow up on so many things , so many loose ends – all kept IPK at ‘almost’ top position – but never at the top – leading to people losing interest and TRPS – The one thing that did keep the show on top was two damned fine actors who could ignite the screen with their eyes alone! So in my head, the show would have died a long time back had it not been for the ARhi magic! And to give credit where it is due –the CT, for coming up with bits that were so beautifully done that they become the trend setters instead of being one of the many clichés.
Characters: Every character was slaughtered by virtue of never being allowed to develop – the onus and the focus of the show remained on the two leads and them alone!! (with the exception of TF! – he did get a fairly well established character)
While I agree that KKG was at times reduced to being silly – I never felt her character was slaughtered – she always remained true to herself (despite being ott at times) meaning she was always within her character boundaries with a few hitches at times. If fact to the extent that she learnt nothing till the end – she was perfect (as a human being) and remained so – she changed people but never changed herself.
ASR however was the one slaughtered always – Now we have to understand that coz he WAS the negative character, his growth had to the most significant – his journey from Ruthless ASR to caring Arnav had to be the most visible – Even though he started off being a very clear character but there were phases where he simply did nothing – forget character growth, there was no movement, not even what old ASR would have done like holi, post marriage, kidnapping – the CT simply butchered his character at very such step! The only reason the story did not lose viewers like us (not only the fangirls) was coz of Sarun – no doubts there!
All other characters – very well etched out in the beginning but none got a chance to grow – no one changed, developed or showed any movement and herein lies the PHs biggest flaw – their inability to concentrate on the others in such a way that the others ADD to and BUILD the story of the leads!
Anyways – IPK was great fun to watch and I guess the best part was coming here and discussing the characters and the story with more fervor than I think the CT ever put in to build it in the first place!

    1. Monu,

      Tum theek ho?

Tum they ya sapnon ka tha saawan
Tum they ke khushiyon ki ghata chaayi thi
Tum they ya roshni raahon main thi
Tum they ya geet goonje phizaaon main the
Tum they ke that koi phool khila
Tum thy ya milaa tha muje nayaa jahaan

A sapnon ki duniya that brought us mad hatters together. Music that made us remember tunes we had forgotten. Words / Dialogues that will stay for ever with us like some of the BW epics, eccentric catch phrases and an entire compilation of acronyms that R&R came up with, DM and Godjee, shiddats and dandaas, ishaaras for stalking, legal analyses, debates on societal issues, mythology, decoding and ulta decodes, and so much more.

Many were the companions that travleed the road with us
Made the journey funfilled and enjoyable
Some hopped off already while new people hopped on
Some have stayed till the bends made way for the end

Like life, the journey to this destination has been a good one
A toast to more such journeys and memories!!
