I really hope they end it with Sanaya and Barun. I love both and will watch whatever they do in future at least with some intial interest. There were some low points in the show but lead pair maintained the interest in the show.

If the show is going off the air, Gul made a good decision, but very late.
ReplyDeleteAnd it does not make sense- BS will not be available for shooting, since he has already started vacation.
Unless, this was already decided and kept under the wraps for SPL to wind up.
Poor Barun! He has to bear the guilt for the show shutting down.
Poor Gul- if this is a sudden decision, I suspect she has gone crazy, even if she ends up giving Arhi a good ending.

If a maker and medium could not manage audience expectations or lacked the conviction to tell their tale...how can one blame a small cog in the wheel for this decision......esp when they have gone town saying the character is bigger than the actor and such other ill-advised announcements
San deserved better...but then the story deserved a better voice too...jab story hi nahin key paaye toh kya kirdaar khaak bachenge?

DeleteYou and I will defend Barun. I am talking about the 200 people whose livelihood comes from the show as Sanaya said.
If what San said is true, Barun will feel indirectly guilty for the show shutting down, esp since he was hoping that the makers will sustain the show- he said so himself- the writers are there- they can stil write a god story. This is the man who believes the story, the character is greater than him. If it turns out his quitting put an end to the show, he will feel bad. Though I will say he should not, he had given his notice 2 months back.
And any way we have two conflicting news here- let us see who is right.
And frankly....blame ki kya baat hain......fans ka kya hain...they would want Khushi and arnav to be play hubby and wife with kids in tow for 4 seasons......
Deletea medium can only ply what sells and when the mundane happens...it will no longer be a phenomenon...so before the phenomenon wore off...Khubsoorat(entirely upt to the maker) mod dekar chod dena accha!!
And whatever pits IPK has sunk to, Khushi is still the dearest female character in SP or any other channel for a lot of people, and definitely so for Sanaya. She enjoys the comedy...you can see it in her acting and she said so herself. I don't think she was just putting up a brave front for the show.

DeleteOn the 200 people quote....I have not heard San only read it..my point is if she was talking about her concern for the 200 people, fair enuf....obv she is in a situation to empathise with them..asking fans to empathise with that...well according to me,she was probably asking fans to stop their activism by appealing to their sense of fairplay- point taken...she was putting it sweetly...i guess
but on whether that should be the fans concern...not sure..a lot of shows end due to viewer disinterest....
viewers cannot be expected to take these matters on to their conscience, they watch shows for their entertainment... period....In AD, as it is, there are many issues of conscience they have to deal with anyway. shows are their 20 min of escapism....
its finally the medium that takes a call on viability of shows...that they may be pressured to take calls on viewer disinterest or ill-advised activism (as was the case in IPK )is another matter.....
fans finally only have one choice...that is not to watch what is dished out if they don't like it anymore..Everyone knows this but can the medium or the stars afford to tell it as it is...not possible...why? becos unfortunately the fandom's extreme attention gives these shows a high as well so unfortunately, the lows also have to lived out....the highs help them get the audiences like in Birmingham so the ugly side also may have to be gone thru........
If the channel took the call on ending, it must be a well-thot out decision...not a knee-jerk one as we presume it to be.....
there would have been uproar on IPK ending any which way....if the fans demanded it and it ended, i wold say its the safest option...HEHEHE

DeleteI think Barun and the PH share the blame ... and so does SP. Barun the smallest ... he made a decision and he wanted out in Feb itself, SP forced PH to retain him ... and PH to change tracks ... and Barun agreed. ALL THREE are guilty parties here ... well, guilty or selfish I don't know.
DeleteAfter that Barun bears the least blame ... he made up his mind again, and has stuck to it. PH and SP have been waffling ... PH lost interest and churned out useless tracks, two main actors left as a result ... you can't put the blame of all that on Barun.
But I am still stumped as to why SP decided to pull the plug so suddenly ... unless they too got convinced of the lack of interest on the part of the PH, or the fact that Gul indeed WAS playing games, and decided to kick her out. And that they learned only after SPL was already signed and sealed. So for that, they had to wait for SPL to get over.
SP has kicked out Ekta ... Gul is small fry indeed. This decision has not been taken overnight.

finally yeh IPK ke BFTP ke jaise hua....all noise!!no substance...was it tat they was really nothing to carry on beyond ASR on screen......from the creative team who had to give the output...so they took the decision and made it look like they did it for us...voila!!
This is what I think, BS wanted to move whether for movies or for better pay check.

SP wanted him to stay, he DID NOT want to take panga with SP, He stayed back.
Gul must have got some heat from SP, after all any PH ideally should have shot bank episodes when they knew 2 months in advance he was going for a movie.
Now BS comes back, he also wants a better paycheck and better script/work conditions whatever, he can bargain as knows his market value and there is Colors practically waiting for him to just say yes and they would take care of all the mess that would have followed.
Gul refuses, ego clashes, BS bashing starts and everything comes out in the open with both parties giving their own versions.
SP starts getting a whiff of things, starts putting pressure, Gul gets fed up, gets a green signal from ZEE for the new tv show, SP says fine you want to quit, give us the copyrights, we will take over from here.
Gul refuses, says if SP wants them to continue they will continue with a new costar.
Now on set confrontation happens, I am guessing SI too put her foot down about romancing another guy/character, that is when Gul question BS SI relationship fiasco happens, leaving people disgusted, BS quits, possibly SI too.
SP realizes it is a much bigger mess than they thought, they hear out both versions, decide a channel can't be seen compromising for an actor or character come out with the same statement.
Meanwhile they are also aware BS is popular, so negotiate with him ki bhai keep yourself free we will work something out for you.
BS supposedly shoots his last scene, story is being reworked and the everyone leaves for SPL.
STAR finally gets the actual taste of how huuuuuuuuuuuuuge SARUN are, remember the people who accompanied them from DABH, SNS, Pratigya are trp pullers but nowhere have they have seen such a frenzy as SARUN were able to create.
Again negotiations happen, it is decided let us end the show now, there is Nach baliye also coming up, Yup saw the promo, so I am sure SI will be participating and maybe make BS the host if not a participant.
Then that ideally gives them three to six months time where in BS MOVIE gets released, he will know what he wants and also they can look around for good projects with SARUN if indeed BS wants to comeback on TV.
So time brought, Fans are assured SARUN will be back together onscreen as soon as they get a good show, till then enjoy them in the reality show.
This is what I have understood, I hope someone comes out and says outright what really happeend.

Woah, it is ending........I havent watched it like ages, have actually more bitter memories than good.....Totally excluding the wonderful friends I made cos of this, but the whole experience has been .......well .
ReplyDeleteLet me put it this way, I genuinely thought this would be THE SHOW........ It would be a cult classic..may be people will remember eventually remember it for the right reasons than the wrong ones.
Anyway it ended with a damp squib, sad very sad.
Sooooooo, that is what BS was hinting about a possible second season.........Looks like SP Decided, you know what DABH might fetch them the trps....but overseas revenue and fame is completely SARUN........So I am guessing we are definitely IN for SARUN in another show.

Yup the haircut still bugs me you know what......for me as long as you are in that role you are expected to give your 100% to that role, we all have our share of problems when we go to work, our set of personal problems, annoying colleagues, bosses etc..but we do make an effort to look good and hide our troubles...... we make the effort even if it is a hug effort.
BS is a very good actor and I hope he realizes that even though he never asked for it....rather the extent to which he was bestowed this fame, he needs to start respecting just a bit more.
THAT Means,making that extra effort.
Anyway have loads to say on the guy, not everything very nice but will shut up only cos......I do believe that he had a showdown with Gul and he stood up for him and Sanaya.

Shwethu, I will totally agree with you about Sobti ... as long as he was on air on the show, he owed it to his fans, his employers, his co-stars, and most of to himself to at least LOOK the part ... look decent and well-groomed, not like something the cat dragged in. His disinterest has been very obvious and apparent for a very long time ... and it has shown in his acting and his looks. Last week he got his act together ... and IT SHOWED ... so I as a fan feel let down, that he could have done better, but he didn't.
DeleteThe script was not in his hands, but his own grooming was ... Sanaya delivered with pathetic script, and worse costumes, her interest and her energy never flagged for a moment ... but BS just lost interest. Not professional behaviour at all.
I want Sanaya back in a new show ... BS ONLY IF he is interested, and will stay interested for more than one year. Otherwise, please get another actor. Sanaya can make magic with anyone decent.

I think Kali was supposed to air at 11 pm, it being a serious story- not the family type. I guess it will be just airing at 8 pm until they get the next the family show ready- which will be Sanjay Leela Bhansali's, I guess.

ReplyDeletei for one would not have liked KKG with anyone else - yes in real life i am all about women standing up for themselves, moving on if they want to or staying single if they want to - but in a story - in IPK - i did want it to end on Arhi - so mw happy!
i still don't think it will end on 30th though - maybe in another week or so (coz if it is ending they can def get BS back for a very few days for the last few epis!)
as for who is to blame - don't know cant say - but one thing i will say - BS gone, DP gone, Akash gone, Mamaji gone - the show had to end (i had expected it - though not the 30th Nov deadline but def by end of year) - so yes - the makers did try to come up with other options of keeping the story going but without BS - there was no Arhi - so that must have been the last nail in the coffin BUT the coffin was being built for a long while now - the stars were leaving coz there was no work for them - the story was neglected for too long - the support caste was neglected and hence - yeh to hano hi tha!
well we will always have reruns and really hoping to see the couple again and soon!

DeleteI had mentally three tests for whether PH was serious about continuing IPK ...
One was, would they show an OTT Khushi or a serious one ... jury out on that, Khushi was not OTT the last week, but she wasn't showing much signs of maturity.
Two was, would they get in more cast members. One Viraf was not going to be enough ... not to replace four people - five, counting Mamaji ... Akash, Payal, Arnav, Shyam - yes, Shyam was a MAIN character and without a villain, there could not be a story for too long.
Three was, what announcement would happen after SPL ... I was fully expecting some kind of announcement, the new lead being officially announced and his role, OR a one-two month time period for the show if 1 and 2 hadn't happened, or didn't happen within the next week. The whole thing about whether Viraf would be positive or negative, for Anjali or for Khushi and that they were still deciding about it, did not ring true AT ALL. They HAD TO have made up their minds if Viraf was already shooting, as per reports.
Turns out, number three pipped 1 and 2 at the post ...
no wonder viraf was having so much fun on twitter.. he knew already!

ReplyDeletePH has been disinterested in the show for quite some time and wanted to end it. Their new baby was occupying their attention.
Barun wanted out because of personal/professional reasons. I wouldn't be surprised if his MAMR contract had a clause of staying out of public view for some time before the release of the film so that his fans crave to see him and make that trip to the theatres.
SP was indifferent to the continuance of the show but the SPL made it inconvenient to confirm the show's end with Barun's exit. So it asked the actor to keep shut about his quitting till it becomes inevitable. They ensured that the news was leaked before the show so that they are not accused of hiding the truth. As expected there was a huge outcry for shuting down the show.
Fans, the unsuspecting pawns in the grand game, played right into the hands of the PH and the channel. Their outcries patiently (and sympathatically) heard by the channel which promised to take it into account.
The timing was all important. So all concerned players waited for the SPL. Barun held his end of the bargain and made the appearance in the event which was wreaking in the mullas for the channel. The stubborn guy he is he ensured that he kept his unkempt look to show that he is not one to cow down to anyone's wishes. Right after the show, the channel seems to have conveyed to the PH that the show is being pulled out. I am sure the head of the PH was kept in the loop although I suspect the rest of the crew were taken by surprise.
So now the show is ending. Barun, PH, channel and Phangals all got what they wanted. The phangals must also be feeling elated that they were so powerful they moved a massive channel like SP. SP let them believe it because that gives them brownie points for being 'sensitive' to 'phan' sentiments.
The people who lost in this game are the ones who plodded ceaselessly because they were committed to their profession. Poor Sanaya. My heart goes out to her.
Interesting perspective and ur ending line...San being the person who had to lose so much and that too...when she did all the donkey's work for the show....when i read about the contract terms of employees, i was shocked....wonder San now thinks if its all worthwhile...a real dog eat dog world...

anyways...it is doesn't suit his persona..all this being on stage, he looks for most part a fish out of water....
Proved to me today after ur words, Opti, that its not always the mighty who can dictate terms....a marzi ka malik can do the same...provided its his time...yes some mud will stick on to him bcos channel/PH (remember mishti spoiler way back in sep that If there is no BS, thre is no IPk) will put this on to BS for sure....now thats a battle he must already be prepared for!!
PH ..nothing more to add...they have been rather enigmatic about their motives...after they have run the course...whats really there to uncover?

DeleteI just went back to my first post on this drama...te date of ABP news mentioning BS's exit...my point was exactly about positions being adopted by people....over the few days...my versions underwent some minor change but one belief of mine has been constant...that of the role of the big guys and their use of the smaller guys in their plans.....its a nice material for case study...who is shooting from whose shoulder and who pays the price...
Castling....and chanakya moves....game fit enuf for kings....i am thinkin of the bacchas on IF who don't know what battle they won and what war they lost!!
Opti - agree with you - my heart goes out to Sanaya (have said this before) - she slogged it out and gave the show her all. I do, really do hope, for her sake, that better times await her - she has been short changed in terms of due respect and recognition far too long and taken advantage of by too many people.
DeleteBS personified ASR like no other possibly could. As much as I enjoyed his performance onscreen and his goofiness offscreen, he IS street smart and hence has come out of this a winner.

None of this is her fault, she has given her best at all times, remained thoroughly professional and committed ... it helps that she has decided that television is her chosen field, but she has stayed true to her work and her ethics over and above what was required.
BS ... I don't know. I guess for many he has emerged a winner ... but not for me. The outward goofiness hides a smart thinker, but the fact remains that his lack of commitment to a show that gave him so much fame, was what started the ball rolling downhill here. So I will be wary of watching him on another television show. He is perfectly within his rights to look out for himself and his career ... and that is what he has done ... at the cost of the show that gave him his launching pad.
Maybe that's what that line Arnav says to Khushi was about.

I too want a new show for sanaya because other than maybe a one more month salary, this serial was not going to go on nor was she going to get credit despite putting in her best. It was at best flogging a dead horse. And brickbats in addition is a given.
Opti I think we will seen her faster and sooner, there is NB coming up and I am sure they would want her back on SP, I have high hopes on that.

ReplyDeleteBarun - No doubt this will haunt him. He is quite sensitive person and now he would be major shareholder in the blame game for the show closing. Could this have been avoided so that he could have come away unscathed. Maybe/Maybe not. There were issues and that was pretty evident but what is the whole truth we fans and public may never know. When I look at Barun quitting, I try to put myself in his shoes. Would I work in an environment wherein I am slogging but my boss is least concerned about the work or the efforts and on top of it I am not enjoying my work as it is not as enjoyable. I would probably look at the first alternative and quit the job. Barun did the same. He may have wanted out in Feb but when the channel and PH agreed to his demand of leave for his movie shooting, he did pay back to the show. He slogged double the hours and on top of it pacified the fans, gave interviews, was truthful that he was out of action for 45 days(It was only the PH which kept on changing the days to 11/20/28/45) and chipped in the weekends to keep the show alive. So that proves his professionalism and also that he was committed to do his part of the work. Whenever he did come on SBS/SBB during this time he never had any airs about him that he is now in another league. And also when he came back he did gave his full to the show. I would be mightily pissed if the boss didn't give me credit for my hard work and I believe something like this happened here. But all said and done - one thing is for sure. Barun is a good actor and he will ace another show/role for sure provided he is guided properly. But on the same time he needs a PR person and he needs to give out the feeling that he is committed to his profession as a TV actor. Somehow his way of handling this mess has turned a disaster to him.
PH :- I have no idea if the PH played the channel or the channel played the PH here in the show closing. One thing is for sure. PH had an golden egg laying goose which it killed by its own hands and the day may not be far when it doesn't have anything to fall back upon. Humse hai Life closed for the PH and now with this show too gone the PH will have only 3 shows on air. I have no doubt that by end of this year or beginning Arjun too might be pulled off air. If the PH had been little sensitive it could have won massive future viewership for all its shows. When Geet ended the PH managed to anger all the Geet fans. But this IPK fiasco literally blacklisted this PH in the minds of many fans. The lack of interest was from the beginning. The way the PH handled the wardrobe of the leads, the shoots it clearly showed that the PH was not interested in doing anything for the show. Fine. Don't anger the fandom and give them a happy ending and close the shop. Okay the channel is not agreeing to end the show sign off the copyrights and part on good terms. The way the forum32 outburst happened, the way the actors were treated like shit, the way creatives felt offended and the fans outraged - Does any PH want all this ? Nope. It will be hard task for Gul to get her name cleaned and get into channel's good books. Gul, it always pays better to have a little give and take policy. Hope you learn it. And no matter what anyone says there is no denying that the PH lost money that it could have made on the show if it were to run till Jan/Feb and that would mean 3 months of money earning being pulled off. So what happened due to entire ego hassles - PH came out as number one in the show closing game, blame came on Gul, PH lost revenue as well as fans. Gul loses and loses heavily. If Gul is intelligent she will give happy ending and move on. If she is still in vindictive mood we will get a tragic ending. And if the rumors of Viraf shooting is true then it is loss of revenue for the PH due to this show ending abruptly.

ReplyDeleteChannel :- It emerged as the number one player here. I think the channel wanted to end this show when the negotiations failed between Gul and channel over copyrights. There is no way channel would have allowed Gul to walk away winner. So they did the best they could. They pulled the plug. And for them even when they didn't have any new show to take IPK's place as SLB's show will come only in Jan/Feb, they played smart and got the new show Kaali which was to replace Ruk Jaan Nahi in the IPK's spot. So this way Kaali will gain some viewership and once the SLB's show is ready Kaali will be moved to 6:30PM spot. This way Kaali would have garnered some decent viewership and they would have managed the gap IPK would have left. Would I think channel is innocent in all of this. Nope. Channel should have stepped in much earlier and should have stopped this thing going this bad. Channel also came across as a liar in all this fiasco and it is pretty clear that the fans are going to be blaming the channel too. The SPL turned out to be the major reason that the channel was quiet and this much is pretty evident as they dropped the bomb right after the show got over. One thing is for sure - neither the channel nor the PH knew how to cash in the IPK success. This shows that our channels and PH are better off with saas bahu shows rather than IPK kind of shows which become phenomenon and then they don't know how to handle it.
Fans :- Would I be happy if the show closes. Yes because as a fan I would be happy if the show had a closure and I take my good memories and part. The accident and the grieving for 2 months and the end in which ArHi may/may not meet is something that if happened would have marred this love story for me. Also on the other hand I do feel bad that this story which had so much potential got ruined because the tracks were not developed properly. I would fault the channel and PH that the tracks were not developed correctly because at the end of the day the actors job is to just act. The channel and PH could have explored this to the max and it would have been a legendary show for the next few years to come had it been played little thoughtfully and little sensitively.
But anyways all good things should come to an end and I am happy that I was spared the torture for the next 2 months and just hope the ending is not tragic. On the same note I do feel bad for Sanaya and the other cast as they will be suddenly jobless and especially Viraf if he did indeed shoot for the show.

ReplyDeleteSo slowly things start getting more clear ... the politics between SP and Gul.
It was clear PH had lost interest some time back ... maybe after they were arm-twisted to give the remarriage ... hence they let Payash walk into the sunset ... and didn't bother to look for replacements, either for the characters, or for a parallel storyline.
They did try to give it a shot with a new ML, but SP was not interested, they wanted Barun. Barun refused to budge ... whether because of PH issues, or because of his own personal ones.
From recent statements by Barun, he wanted to leave round the MAMR time and was held back by SP. They made the PH write the kidnapping track to accommodate him. That time he agreed to stay back. This time he did not. Probably he felt he was bigger now, and could afford to take a risk ... PH again agreed to let him go, and started to plan a new lead, a new love story for Khushi. And again SP played Big Brother, ably helped by those deluded fans who were fed the story of the Conspiracy Game to Denounce the Poor Lamb Barun Sobti.
This helped them to win the fans sympathy, get them to demand the ending of the show themselves ... clearing the way to shut down the show and get Barun into their own contract ... out of Gul's clutches and into theirs.
All I can say is, if there is so much behind the scenes politics, best for it to end. And I'm sure this is just one of many theories floating around. Which one is true, God only knows. From the following post on IF, Barun and Sanaya were told of this development after SPL was safely over ... whether Gul knew of it beforehand is questionable, maybe ... maybe not.

In all this mess, SP, Gul and Barun have gotten exactly what they want. SP has got the show shut down without a protest - in fact fans themselves demanded it. Gul has offloaded a show she was no longer interested in, for whatever reason, QH or too much interference or a combination.
Barun has got out of a show he was no longer interested in and a chance to take a shot at BW, with, I am pretty sure, a back up plan with SP.
Am sure SP has done some deal with Barun ... he would not be such a fool as to burn his bridges with SP, esp if he had a tiff with the PH ... he needs to keep something as a back up plan. If he hasn't, it would be pretty reckless. And that is not a quality to be admired.
I am just appalled at SP's ruthlessness ... they didn't wait a day after SPL to announce the show closure. Not even a face saving for the fans - it's like a slap in the face - you wanted it to end - here you go. And when the euphoria dies down, the realisation will sink in of how the fans were played. Already the blame game between the fans has started ... I am one of those feeling annoyed because I did not want the show to end.
In all this mess, I am just feeling bad for the other actors who have lost thri jobs, and MOSTLY for my favorite Sanaya. She never got her due during the show, and now she loses her show entirely. So I am not feeling kindly towards anyone - SP, Gul or Barun ... or all the protestors who wanted the show to end. If they didn't want to see a love story getting spoilt, they had one very useful device - a REMOTE.
I shall console myself with the hope that Sanaya will remain emerge untainted in this entire mess and will be back soon with a new show. One where her character and her talent is given the due it deserves.
Agree with your points Dia especially regarding Sanaya. She was one lead who had pathetic wardrobe, whose character was butchered ruthlessly but she still carried on. I do blame Barun in this mess too but he carries the least blame of all three parties concerned. And looking at the last SBS/SBB interview and the posts on IF with people who saw him on SPL live, I am sure even Barun was not aware of the show going off-air by this week. In SBS interview he even said that the team is the same and he was pretty sure they would come up with something decent. And even the other actors like Karan and writers Ved Raj were not aware of the plug being pulled off. So in all in all PH got what it wanted and channel was ruthless enough to pull the plug within a day after SPL got over.
DeleteOnly two things I can deduce from the abrupt closing of the show
1. The negotiations between PH and channel didn't work out at all. Priya says that the PH took the initiative and stopped all the shooting after BS/SI were held back in London and there was a major showdown with the channel authorities. So that is the reason there is still a possibility of having a tragic end as the PH is not shooting any more. Given that Priya is very reliable,if this is the case then I feel pity for Gul. She lost her show and she must have completely burned everything with SP - her shows along with new future projects.
2. I did cancel my subscription from Tata sky for Star affiliated channels and my cable wala operator was actually smiling when I told him to take off SP channel. Why do I feel that there were couple of requests before me. For me I never demanded the show to close. But I was paying for SP only to watch IPK and I just felt it was better for me, in the sense of moving on if I don't have the channel at home. And it would help me be in AD much more resolutely and hence I cancelled. Many have done it and maybe just maybe SP may have gotten the whiff of losing the viewers and it just couldn't handle the mess with the PH and just decided to close off within a week. Sanaya already said that she shoot for 1 week worth of episodes before going to London so we will get that one week and everyone needs to move on.
In all I do feel bad for Sanaya, Karan, Akshay, Deepali,Daljeet, Jayshreeji, Uttarakanshaji and the actors playing buaji, shashi, garima and mamaji and also to some extent Barun too. The PH actually nailed the castings so perfect.Pity it couldn't handle the show success in a much better way.

DeleteI will never get over the fact that they were using one room for Anjali and arnav khushi and not even bothering to clean the carpet for the last one and a half years or change the carpet for each room. There was a round dirt patch which was noticeable when they did the Anjali burning shyam's things drama and it was there in arnav's room also afterwards.
For a prime time star plus show, this PH DID NOT EVEN BOTHER TO camouflage the round dirt patch from one room to another. They coud have placed a table over it, anything.
They have no respect for their product and we are supposed to respect them.
Every day a new serial starts with so much effort but does not catch the eye of the viewer. Here you have a product which the viewers love and you are not willing to make it look good.
I think this Viraf entry is a big hoax.
Did IPKKND even look like a 8 pm star plus serial. Where was the renovation, reinvestment in the sets. They could even give close ups because then the bad furniture which is ripped in the corners would be visible.

Actually I would have liked them to replace ASR last February itself if what they say is true tha he wanted to leave in feb even before a year. But I don't believe star plus as well. At that time if they had replaced ASR with Viraf, it made sense because there was a lot of story left. Now there is none. Now it is just pulling out rabbits from the magician's hat.
I did not want viraf to enter this madness called IPKKND because I like Viraf a lot. And as mentioned above, this production house was not putting in money into the serial. So though I too would have seen for sanaya, it would have been not with enjoyment but with a sense of compulsion because if the production house was serious, they would have done auditions for a new family, created awareness on new story line, new people coming in so that just like viraf, there will be fans f those other actors coming in and interest is created.
Stories have t overlap effortlessly. They have not even replaced the number of people who left in numbers.
So I am totally sure that this was known to the main players, it was just not revealed to the audience till SPL.
Star plus does it all the time. I used to see CHAND CHUPA BADAL mein which got replaced by IPKKND. So it is nothing new to them.
Usha I agree, they never spent the money on the show the way they should have, I mean look at RK's bedroom in MB, You can see they have made the effort so that the cast looks the part.
DeleteAnd If they had to redo the same room again and again differently, think of the time wasted by the actors or the other crew while it got done. If they had two or three rooms, an AD could have directed some of the scenes, so the time spent on the sets could have reduced and bank of episodes could have been made so that the work pressure was not so much and not lead to the feeling of being overworked.

SP has done it loads of time before, the 7.30 show that got axed ek doosray say kartay hain pyaar him had decent trps and was a pretty good show, they yanked Sajda when they realized it was not getting the numbers and to be fair it is hard to take a cop seriously who wears so much eye make up, shaped eyebrows and all....I mean even Karan Tacker does it but that is not so in your face, Gargi sorry bey...

So the look of the character had gone. Can any other star plus serial have a unshaven lead in one scene when he is going to the car, shaven look in the car, unshaven look two scenes later. Maybe I was noticing this because I have been seeing it continuously for the last 18 months minus the sheetal track.

whatever class act he was part of, however much his talent of speaking through his eyes (expertly brought out by the cinematographer) was beautifully used to take us through an amazing serial, i cannot ignore the fact that the actor has not been sincere to the character ... at least in the recent past.

*sigh* that is the reason why I want this to end. Because with all things remaining constant, sanaya will be under so much pressure. I would have loved viraf replacing ASR IN February but not now. Both viraf and sanaya will be playing on Blackfoot. Idhar kuan aur udhar khai. ( English translation roughly is from the frying pan into the fire).
So in this I solely blame star plus. This story deserved a proper after marriage track and a closure. Not a sheetal track.
What was the channel supervisor of ippknd doing about all this when the serial was on air.

DeleteProbably its a bit of everything...a show's popularity becomes the cause of its downfall...when I read Opti's posts about Geet...i realise that probably this PH's sensibilities are a way off from the fan's sensibilities about romances....its a contrary thing...largely the fans are able to relate to the romance obviously very well but then they are not able to take the angst that will come in any passionate romantic tale.......

PH perhaps needed someone to communicate strongly to medium(SP) of wat they really intend to convey in their stories...so was it a case of channel sensibilities vs Ph sensibilities? PH wanted to show a darker story and channel would not allow it? then this was a marriage headed for divorce....the writing on the wall clear...
Having said that why did it get so murky...well some divorces do get murky....

When the friends actors started, they were paid pittances but then they started negotiating their contracts together till they were paid almos millioN dollars per episode and they all negotiated together because they had become the face of friends.
So ego cannot come into it. If it was pay, they should have paid. Bad managerial skills.

Well I can't talk abot others but speaking for myself....the draw in the story has been that there will be these strains of being apart due to n reasons and the will or call it "rab di marzi" to be together...(as very clearly outlined in the tu hi bata mere maula song)
Actually Gul's vision of Atoot vishwas was probably darker than what was shown on screen...it was meant to be hateful towards Khushi outwardly but Arnav battling his feelings of love for a woman he wanted to hate...setting up for the ultimate redemption track or Arnav's RTR at some stage (maybe BFTP was that culminating point).....
ofc even with all the constraints they did manage to give a good Atoot vishwas track...but what followed was harakiri of the worst kind...
the setting kidnapping phase was perfect for the angst as well but the misrepresentation of DKS was the biggest problem...I don't know why was it necessary for writers then to say that the story was about DKS.....actually it was abot DKS but the communication should have been different..
If i were to look back at that stage post kidnapping Arnav had two most important people in his life under one roof...a wife who was yet to reconcile completely to her status as wife and a sister whose husband was accused of infidelity without proof...obviously a case ripe for conflict and what did they do with that situation....just killed it with half-hearted tracks right upto the BFTP....which was another wet cracker..by which time it too much water under the bridge.
But the funny part for me, i am not able to forgive Gul for only one thing was that Dadi-Garima faceoff on Haldi...that track in my mind takes the bakery in respect of inanity....There i was busy sympahising with Garima's position and they had haldi face pack scene and ruined all the effect of pathos for me.....I was laughin in that scene....LOL talk of anti-climax!!
DeleteRekha, I totally agree point by point with all that u have said. You have said it really well. The writers really messed up the post kidnapping Anjali drama. They were totally confused with their own story. They lost total control and by the time they picked up the threads it was over.
I also felt Shyam was not properly dealt with both times. It was too simplistic for the crimes and the gory way they showed the crimes. I was not satisfied at all.

i am ok with short series, long series, basically any length as long as it is a story, not a string of tracks thrown in!!
guess that's why i have always liked Pakistani plays - they have a story and no compromise there!
If we look back (impassionately) then the story was fine till the wedding - despite random tracks and open loops and random scenes - we could always tie it back to the story BUT post the wedding, the CT were lost - the BFTP had to be the great twist but it turned out to be a wet cracker!! after that teh CT did not know what to do and random tracks were created to reignite the fire - but failed - so in my opinion, if anyone
is to blame - its the writers - for having lost the story

simply becos we do not have the entire facts....
and somehow every action has a reaction...whether right or wrong....
I would say an actor is required to commit to a time period and there shold be watertight contracts on this and penalties for any breach on either side..tis being a creative field the smaller guys will not have such terms which is so evident in this case....
contrast San's contract with SP and BS's contract with PH....and it is clear....where the mess is...
If BS wanted out in Feb (which year..i don't know, i am presuming this year) then the very fact that he went on to do many months after that meant some adjustments have taken place so its surprising that the PH/ch took so long to fix the problem......so wat is a lay person supposed to conclude...
that the channel and PH or both cold not work out their relationship with the lead actor and they found it diffi to replace him....my question is why did they leave it for so late.They should have let BS go in feb and found a new guy and continued with the story....
However at that time, the SPA business was at its peak i guess...and the players were warming up to the idea of who SARUN were to the int'l aud and then who wants to get go of an golden goose...so the games began in such a way that it was diffi to tell kaun kispar meherbaan ho raha that...all lines started to blur and they remain so to this day and frankly now it hardly matters...

In our block two neighbours were fighting with each other. When each of the wives came and spoke to me later, each said, my husband did not say anything r open his mouth, it was the other who was shouting and calling names. Whereas the audience who were watching could easily make out that both were calling each other names and both were to blame.
So all this reporting and perspectives is basically the point where you are standing.
It is a question of perception.

i can't believe that we had a filler epi today, all shot separately and no RV! the show is ending in 2 days and we are getting fillers, is madnesss ko kya naam doon?
ReplyDeletealso dia, you mentioned about BS in contract with SP, are you sure? because, though out the serial, the new was being flashed that ipk is ending on nov 30th (wich means no ME??), because BS quit as ASR and hence SP is forced to end the show abruptly. the channel is openly blaming BS fo the end and is not even being polite about it. it also says they couldnt negotiate with the actor to stay and hence HAD to end the show. this new, to say the truth spoiled the entire epi for me. BS doesnt come acros as very street smart now, does he? did he burn bidges with the mighty SP? is he really that sure of his chances at BW?
