Khushi ends her ramp walk, all smiles ...
Arnav gets a call and goes off ... Khushi tries to look for him, waylaid by efffusive Jai and Sam ... both full of praise ... she's a front runner now. Arnav is annoyed ... or jealous?
Amrita and Riya both not pleased.
Next morning, Khushi is surprised to see Arnav missing ... he's left instructions for her to take the car. Nani, Mami, NK, Anjali and Arav all fuss over her.
Khushi late ... told to do sit ups
Sit ups end barely two minutes later ... new task for the next day, the girls have to come with their husbands. Amrita and Natasha both look alarmed.
Khushi wishes she could bring Arnav, because the round would be a piece of cake with him. Girls pump her for ideas, which she happily gives away. She also asks Jai for permission to bring another family member as her husband is busy.
Back home ... Mami, Nani and NK are preparing their victory speeches, all ready to stake their claim to Khushi's fame. Aarav is sure his mom will thank him anyway ... all moms do. Filler scene ... but it was nice to see the mad Raizada family ... gonna miss them!
Arnav corners her furiously ... learn to say No! Don't give away everything to the girls, they're using you to get ideas. If you have to face the world if you're alone, then you have to learn to say No.
Khushi falters for a second ... rabba ve ... and then declares firmly ... she can face the world alone, she can say No.
SN - am sure this was shot pre-London.
So she goes home, and tells the family they have to accompany her the next day ... all are excited. Arnav arrives, and Khushi belatedly remembers her life's lesson for the day ... and slowly, less and less firmly, refuses all of them ... and almost crying, tells the reason ... she can take only one person. And run off ... feeling so bad for making them all feel bad. Didn't know whether to laugh or go awww at this ... so typically Khushi!
And Arnav looks after her satisfied ... she has learnt her lesson, though it was tough on her.

So Sam did help Khushi by giving her a dress she could wear with ease ... now if only she would stop calling him 'bhaiyya!' But Jai says that whatever Sam does, Khushi can never be out of the competition now ... Amrita is annoyed and worried at Jai's open admiration ... so is Riya ... Khushi barely hears them, she is only worried about Arnav and his reaction ...
Manaoing annoyed, jealous Arnav is not easy ... Khushi tries her best ... did you see, they all liked me, I was so worried, they're not so bad after all, what do you think?
He's jealous, annoyed ... no one has the right to admire his wife but him ... I'm busy ...
Khushi puzzled ... then it clicks, oops, we're not husband and wife here, I'm not supposed to talk like this here ... doesn't enter her head that her man is one insanely jealous lover ...
But then confusion ... why is he so upset?
And she does get a hint when she overhears a conversation between Jai and Riya, Riya annoyed at Jai paying attention to everyone but her ... Jai accuses her of the same ... and Khushi wonders, these two are fighting like a husband-wife ... could they be ...?
Again, this could have been a nice parallel track ... the actors are decent, and they look the part ...
Next morning, Khushi again looking for Arnav ... he's left early but left instructions - take the car. Thank God ... finally! No autos for Mrs Raizada.
Entire family gets Khushi ready for work ... salad, drink, fruit ... and lots of encouragement and support ...
Some more timepass ... exercise for the girls, Khushi is late, gets situps as punishment, and within two minutes, called off as a new competition is happening ... a couple round. Khushi first happy ... then worried ... Arnav can't come to the sets. Amrita and Natasha are both worried. But Khushi clears the way for herself and for them ... she gets permission to bring a family member, because hubby is too busy. Of course Jai agrees - he's not going to disqualify Khushi
Amrita and the other girls happily pump Khushi for ideas, she equally happily and innocently gives them all away, watching movies together, gardening together, dancing together ... Arnav shakes his head ... this girl is pagal, not at all wordly-wise!
Filler family scene ... Manorama getting her thank you speech ready for Khushi's victory Nani and NK stake their claim for their share of glory Aarav says his mom will thank only him.
Arnav yanks Khushi into his room ... and puts forward a series of requests ... wear a mini dress and come for a party, shift away from the family with me, kiss me now ... Khushi, ek baat to sun lo!
Khushi refuses ... and Arnav makes his point ... if you can say no to me, learn to say No to others, they're all using you to get ideas!
SN - was that Arnav or Barun speaking? He's managed to say No pretty forcefully ...
Khushi refuses ... she wants to show him she's no less than him ... he repeats it's not about him or her, it's about living in the big bad world ... how will you manage if I'm not around?
And for a moment Khushi is shocked ... alone? Without him?
Then she gathers herself ... I will manage ... she's ready to face the world, and do it on her own terms too ...
He knows she can, but for that, she has to learn to say NO ... not let herself get taken for a ride, or for granted.
SN - somehow there seemed to be a lesson in there somewhere ...
Khushi comes home muttering to herself ... she's not that naive as he thinks. And announces to the family about the couple round ... and also that Arnav isn't coming, so she has permission to bring her family.
Family all overjoyed, all planning the outing immediately with full excitement ... and Khushi suddenly remembers she's only allowed one person, not a paltan ... just as Arnav arrives home, and she has to prove herself to him again ...
So she says No ... with increasing sadness and guilt ... as Arnav pushes her buttons by mentioning each member and how much they have helped her ... and she dolefully sticks to her refusal, feeling worse and worse ... and finally blurts out the real reason ... that she's allowed only one person ... and runs to her room ... not even seeing the understanding on their faces ... and the satisfaction on Arnav's ... Lesson learned. Slowly Khushi is learning to face the world.
SN - I really wonder at Sanaya's capacity for work ... she was onscreen at least half the episode yesterday and most of today ... and she is away for three days to UK, where she did a Meet and Greet and three dances. How quickly does this girl can her scenes?! No wonder her producer called her the most professional actor on the sets.

i just posted about it on the other post, coz cudnt find this one. i was fuming about it for the first few mins and then i laughed, only last week did they say, character i bigger than actor and today they are shutting down one of their most popular shows ever because the lead actor quit.

Hindsight is a precise science but that calling to account is based on what the individual thinks abot it....not the world at large....becos the value of trade-offs are not easily comprehensible to people who are not involved in the decision, least of all an outsider.

DeleteBarun was clear about it- he has made a decision and will stand by it. If it turns out to be a bad decision...well...I am reminded of Kareena's Geet:
At least he will blame only himself for the mistakes he made...and he will be wiser. I believe this whole exercise has already taught him something. He has just started learning.
I think he made a mistake...to err is human.
I think this is what BS wants probably: He does not want to be typecast, does not want to be too busy.
If Bollywood gives him the right roles, he will be more than happy being known as a good actor- a director's actor as he himself described.
Really there is not much scope in television LONG TERM for an actor like that. Decay is sure to happen and he will lose interest again.
Or it has to be a short series or a weekend show.

We came to know or it was official 2 months back that - - Barun is quitting (what ever the reason may be personal or moive - ) i think this was said on their news channel partner SBS.
- So they had ample time for replacements and story change ..
- PH comes out in open says it has run out of ideas..
- The male lead says he is taking a long break for personal reasons and he has taken the decision, whether right or wrong I abide by it.
- SP still go ahead with the SPL knowing the lead is quitting, they negotiate with the actor and does not inform the viewers about the show ending before the live show.
- Fans protest of replacement and ending of the show .. where SP accepts the later.
- puts up a msg saying it is shutting show because the male lead could not be retained ... and that was on Monday morning - while SPL was on Sunday...
- they go on record saying characters are bigger than the actors just a week before and then put a msg saying actors are bigger than the characters..
- the only reason I can see why they are putting the blame on BS and his movies is because they can't tell their viewers that they had decided to end the show before long back , but wanted to cash on their most awarded and popular international jodi for SPL ..
- Now was it only for SPL that barun was signed by SP after his quitting the PH ??
If that is the reason its the cheapest thing I have ever heard of from a GEC.

I think Barun was talking about some one not being nice to him. It could have been LM. He never seemed to like the gang fooling around....or it was some one from SP going by today's disclaimer....this is what I wrote about yesterday when I said, Barun might never be seen in SP ever again.

I am now tired about the PH - SP drama and now we have SP blaming Barun for the closure of the show. Wait wasn't the Fiction head of SP proudly declare that the character was bigger than actor. So what the hell are they proving right now. That Barun is bigger than ASR ? because that is what comes out of the interpretation of the red sticker. Indirectly or directly Star is admitting that they goofed up and they don't know how to manage this popular show without the lead anchor. Hmm Star Plus are you sure you want to give out that message to the people out there. Anyway Star need not worry because the audience of this show pretty much are aware of all the happenings and mostly are net savvy intelligent people. SP didn't close this serial till now because of SPL and they dropped the bomb as soon as they got SPL finished and done and got the money back. Pathetic. And now everyone is jumping in for the sake of having fun. And the fans are bechare still figuring out what the hell did they ask and what is that they are getting. LM let out that the crew is taking a break of 1 month or so and he wants to work on a new love story with the same cast and even Barun is interested in working with the team. That's it everyone is going to spam SP and LM now. For the sake of sanity for Barun and Sanaya I really hope both of them don't come onscreen in any serial for another 6 months either in the same show or in different shows with different costars. Let people forget a bit about IPK before these people take up new offers or else it would just make their life difficult and the forever comparisons will follow.

First they had a cow about Giaa Manek and went hoarse announcing her replacement............now they are after Barun...........aren't they stooping really low now? Their public stance would indicate that Barun is also out in the cold as far as they are concerned....brrrrrr! Kaam khatam, paisa hazam?

hi ladies - have not seen the epi yet but i have been saying all day now that i dont blame the actors but the CT - the writers who failed to keep the story going - for to be fair both our leads have been giving their best despite the nonsense going off stage - NOW the SP drama - that really is the heights of 'lowness'!!! - how cheap can you get - blame one man for the closure when this one man had given his notice like a professional!! - oh i too did not want him to go but this is no bonded labour - he had the right to go after serving his notice period, which he did - So for me - the channel is really coming across as sore losers!!

Deletei have a new *conspiracy* theory here. maybe all this crazies (fans) gave creeps to barun and his wife. maybe it is a personal decision to leave the show. he is young, may be never expected this kind of crazy fan following. other day when i read about those girl’s visit to the shooting spot, it was creepy. SP, PH and his co-stars may not have understood the gravity of the situation for barun and thought he will come back .. fans thought putting more pressure will make him change his decision.. but only made his resolve stronger. well.. i like both sanaya and barun i will watch whatever they do in their future at least with some initial curiosity.

was talking to my sister who loves the serial but is not addicted like me - so has a more unbiased view - she does not know of the off stage drama but when she heard the show is ending - her reaction was "smart move" - don't want to see this love story become an ekta Kapoor serial where ASR will loose all his wealth and live in a chawl or where the bad old saas bahu drama takes over!

DeleteIt is true. I saw the entire episode and because they usually show advertisements in that red thing, I usually try to see through it. So actually nobody reads it. I think it must be some legal requirement because even Hindi speakers do nt bother to read it. We always try to ignore the adverts and try to see what the adverts are hiding. Until I came and read here, I did not even knw of that red ribbon though I saw the episode twice. Went back to see how I missed it.
From what I read of LM INTERVIEW, I think they are going to take a break for one month and come back with sanaya viraf so that it does not look like a continuation and people get over the ASR effect.

DeleteAt first I was angry but then I thought they have in fact embarrassed themselves and redeemed the character ASR. CLosing a show because of an actor proves that ASR IS NOT GOPI VAHU. Imagine star plus accepting barun Sobti cannot be replaced and they had to close the show. That too all over the world they are accepting.
And not only did they show this once - they ran the red tag THROUGH out the episode - koi nahi bhi dekhta ho to dekh lay!

IPK has ruined me for other shows, baby!

On the poem Akhshay has written..can be seen many ways...since he wrote during the anna revo...but in a general sense...the way i will interpret it is.....my attempt... becos i love poetry...akshays rhyming scheme and idealism has an appeal.....

- why is the Riya dame upset? is she really the judge's wife and jealous of her husband liking KKG? well we shall never find out :(
- how come no one is concerned about the ethics of the sponsor's wife being a contestant (in fact should it not be a natural dis-qualifier??) - chalo chodo, IPK he finsih ho raha hai to ab logic ki kya baat karen!
- now that the story will end on a high note - will KKG win the title, as seems obvious? OR will she forgo her title for ASR - she wanted him to know that she is capable - he knows - so now she need not 'win' anything to prove her point, and accept his love for her as her biggest prize (ultimate cheesy - yah, i know :D:D:D) ( though personally i think the poor guy has always been saying "i know you can do, it, but i am just helping" - like the hospital bill, like the business venture she turned down to participate in a BP that is being carried out in a drawing room!!)

ReplyDeleteThey really have done the blame game well. You really couldn't miss the banner on the screen all through the show and in English as well. I was surprised. Do they really want to sabotage this poor guy. Will he ever work again, is this the end of a very promising career, and will they make him regret his decision for whatever reason he took it. From what you are all posting this seems to be unusual. They obviously believe that without Barun there is no show, but what about Sanaya. Doesn't she deserve better than this. If I was her I would be really upset that my job has finished through no fault of my own and the makers didn't have enough confidence in her to try and make it work. They seem to forget who carried the,show,while Barun was making his movie.

Lin, not only is it unusual, it is actually unprecedented ... Am surprised the fans continue to praise themselves for a job well done in getting the show called off.
DeleteI think the fans have harassed them to the extent that they realised that if the show does go on, there will be countless mail and calls to bring back Barun, not let Khushi fall in love with Viraf or even have a friendship or just support from him ... the moment Khushi gets near Viraf, there will be chaos ... basically the fans will not give the show a chance. So might as well pack up and return with a completely fresh story. I would not be surprised if they pair Sanaya Viraf in that story ... a new story means no one can ask for Barun to come back, because Viraf is the hero from the start.
SP has been petty, but the fans have completely shot themselves in the foot and done major damage to Barun as far as SP is concerned ... there is now NO CHANCE of Barun returning for a good long length of time, not on IPK because the show itself does not exist any more ... nor on SP, because he doesn't want to do tv, he wants to do movies, hence is unreliable.

she comes in while they were exercising, and the day ends with them exercising? they could have been relaxing or something else when Jai came in with that announcement! (or is that what they wanted to show? that Mrs india contest is one long stretch of exercising and dieting?)
the girls talk to khushi.. and she says ODC garden together and end up soaking each other? ramanchii!!!
khushi back at RM.. for once, they show him coming in later.. why is this man hanging around so close to his wife? he does not have to run AR? he looks like he is spending all his time at the Mrs India place!!
it would be so easy to show them having phone conversations.. if you dont have time or intention of showing him in AR, shoot the phone scenes with him in his car and her in the contest venue.. (sigh.. ab kehne se kya fayda!)

Sanaya has been blessed with amazing reserves of energy... if you notice in some of the old scenes where she is basically carrying the show on her shoulders single-handedly, not once is her fatigue visible including the time of grih pravesh when she was sick and had lost her voice. For all her commitment and hard work, I feel really very sorry for her - she does not deserve this behaviour. Until yesterday, I would have been happy to see her on another serial with the same channel; after SP's petty behaviour yesterday, I hope she gets a better channel and production house that do full justice to her.

Hmm, I really don't know what to say other than that the feud between SP and Gul indeed must have been nasty that SP is pulling plug on 3 of the shows produced by 4Lions within 2 months. Humse hai life ended on Nov 15 which was aired on channel V. Now IPK and Arjun will go off air within 2 months. Makes me wonder did Gul really do herself any good by being this adamant.

DeleteIrrespective of whether 4lions stays or not,the poor production values of pH will be under the scanner now....it was the selective individual brilliance in teams that was able to manage to put up episode when there was so much chaos.
IPK had the worst production values....it was all maaf only becos of SARUN and now that BS is not there.....its going to be a case of "pull up ur socks or face the boot" BS with a unkempt look/bad clothes in ASR role was overlooked becos of the goodwill he had already built....but if VP is going to come in that place or for that matter if 4lions are planning anything else with SP, they will have to put in some money on the table..

I don't think SP can afford to lose Barun now. Colors was vying for him for a long time. And given that Colors have some serials that are about to go off in prime time, if SP loses or rather lets go of Barun, Barun would be in good position to negotiate with them and come in other shows. That was the whole reason Barun was signed by SP because somewhere deep down I think SP wants to hold on to Barun. I am pretty sure Barun would be on air in a new show by mid of next year that is provided Main and Mr.Right turns out to be a mild fare at the box-office(I do hope MAMR at least rakes in decent moolah so that BS does get other offers). Then BS would be in a position to negotiate his leaves and his work hours for the show. Almost all of the star heroes work side by side on movies. Ahem is shooting a punjabi movie. Only due to unprofessional way the PH 4Lions operated with virtually no bank, BS and SI had to literally slog out everyday. With correct planning and good PH, BS can work in both movies as well as the shows.

aamir khan... i was thinking, considering the amount of promotion that usually accompanies an aamir khan release, talaash did not have even a fraction of that.. is aamir excited about the film or not?

Sarada, SP has dropped Barun ... made it clear that he is not with them any more, despite them trying to retain him. Now he has to approach them, not the other way round.

Unless they felt, from the volume of hysterical mails and calls, that the fans would not give the show a chance, and there would be relentless spamming for Barun's return ... more nuisance value than it was worth.
PH got fed up of Barun's breaks ... PH is ready to do a new story ... when they gave Barun the ultimatum to quit, rather than break, it shows they were ready to drop him and work on a new story for Khushi. We did get news of this some time back on R&R. But SP probably realised it would not work, after seeing the hysteria for Barun. Better to call it quits ... they planned anyway to wind up after two months, they preponed the decision. And LM is already talking about a new story ... they had already started thinking out one with Viraf-Sanaya ... they just have to tweak it to make it non-Arhi. They can take Viraf-Sanaya or two fresh actors. Sanaya is obviously still with SP, they won't pay her for nothing, so they will try to get her into a show as soon as possible. Viraf - depending on contract. If he had started shooting, he has signed some contract ... so he might be available. But also depends on how much faith SP has in Gul and PH ... ending the show was either a slap in the face for hysterical fans, or for the PH ... or for both.

Channel played games and stuff because they had SPL and overseas subscriptions and awards to look out for. Now that is done they finally get rolling on what they planned for a long time end the show, end traction with PH who has been having clashes with them since long and has been underhanded with their forum32 and nearly jeopardized the SPL event and Star's overseas reputation with other partners. Plus TRP holiday soon comes to an end and it is time for Star to lookout for its GEC leadership. But Star wanted to keep IPKKND alone going however that could not happen.
Alternatively that red banner if you pause and think could actually go in BS favour. A man much maligned and tramped upon, but a channel then openly comes out and tells its millions strong audience that the actor and character are so synonymous and so integral to the show that yes we Star who have replaced many before this are instead breaking tradition and ending the show without killing the story or the jodi. I mean they ran a season of KBC without AB. (confirmation of this shall come if BS gets awarded a project from Star anytime over the next 6 to 8 months)
LM saying back soon with IPK cast in new show - well he has been an attention seeker IMO. But he is contracted to Pangalosean the other PH I think so we don't know if this will be Star's way of making good to teh rest of cast and crew who had rug pulled from under them.

You asked me why would one kill their own baby and I said if the insurance was worth it. If they did do all the dirty stuff, it was because the PH knew they were small fry if SP realized the game and entered the fray. They needed to safeguard their reputation to survive in the industry in teh future. So a steadily decreasin TRP show would have been proetction in a way but them TRP holiday happened :)
Copyrights - a new fav buzzword - I would think jointly owned between channel and PH. Channel own right to transmit, PH owns the characters. That way both parties interests are protected.
BS: stood by PH when they said that the Arnav Khushi story was sacrosanct yet believed that another actor could play the character and disagreed with channel to continue on show. It would have been unfair to the other cast esp SI whom he already owed bigtime, to continue knowing he needed leave and then again time off for promotions. He would have been game to come back later after his films if teh story still had scope for him.
BS: stood by channel in calling his leaving the show a break and covering events because he was committed / contracted to them. He disagreed with PH that the actor and character were so interlinked that the show should end because it would again be unfair to the rest of the cast who had equal claim to all the fame and appeal of the show.
In either case we the audience lost!

Modern communication - both a boon and a bane. Shows how important it is to fight for the right cause ... and the need for facts in the fight.

Sandy, I think BS and Gul made their respective decisions ... BS decided to leave for whatever reason, professional or personal ... his business, his decision. He asked for break, Gul had given in the first time because of channel pressure, this time she stood firm and said no, you go, if we can work you back into the story, we will ... but we can't write a story around another missing ASR track. BS agreed ... he wanted to keep his options open too, this way Gul was being fair by him and the show. Win-win for both.
DeleteGul made her decision, let ASR leave ... either with Sheetal ... that was shot down either by hysterical fans or wiser sense prevailed not to make ASR negative, especially if Barun wanted to come back ... or whatever compulsion ...
So other option, tried and tested, cliched but works ... accident with missing body. Get Viraf in, if he clicks then continue with brand new story, if he doesn't, see if Barun is happy to return, otherwise end the show. At least they would have given it a shot. Barun and Gul both take a risk, but for Gul, Arhi are over, so it's either a new story or nothing. As it is, PH had lost interest in Arhi, their two main tracks had been messed up by channel pressure.
SP knew BS and IPKKND are their golden goose and were not ready to let him go. Story? What story? Half their shows are running for years without any story. What's all the fuss about story for, anyway?
And that's when the trouble started ...
The biggest truth which the fans fail to see is that BS himself really does want that break. Enough to resist channel pressure - now that is HUGE.

I have felt it as BS wanted to leave then but was convinced not to by channel and he wanted to leave now again but decided not to be convinced again by them. Ya he could have said then too well if you can work in a break then great but male lead on break taht too so long virtual harakiri unless PH has great management. (Again one area where this PH sucked).
Unless SP has dropped BS as it seems at first look from that banner, liek you said it is no mean feat (HUGE as you say) that they have accepted to having tried to keep him back and accepted his decision not to and he has stayed firm to his decision such that his bridges with Star have not been burnt. Much reason for a pause and think about people shouting themselves hoarse.
SP waiting for SPL was always understood.

ReplyDeleteBarun wanted a break for personal/professional reasons. PH said NO,he can either stay or Quit. Barun decided to quit.
SP wanted to continue the show post Barun's quitting with a story revolving around Khushi but Fans said NO, its either the show with Barun and Arshi or no show at all.
Channel tried to coax Barun to reconsider his decision. Barun said NO, his mind is already made up.
PH reluctantly worked on a new plot at the instance of the SP and was all set to kill off ASR and bring in Viraf next week. This time channel said NO,the show will wind up on November 30th, even if Barun is not around to reshoot a happy ending.
So at the end of the day, we have an abrupt end to this beautiful tale because of all the NOs. So it is still a virtue to say NO? Yes, it is. Say NO to getting emotionally invested in any t.v.show.

I read a post from two Monaya fans who visited the IPKKND sets today. They met Sanaya, she said she's not doing NB. This was after the news of the show ending was out ... with IPK on, she wouldn't have had the time anyway.

One last comment on the SP red ticker fiasco ...
ReplyDeleteSP being vindictive and petty - but towards whom? Barun? They've had discussions with him the last two weeks or more, would they really put out on air that he's leaving for movies unless they could substantiate their claim? If not, he could actually sue them for misrepresenting facts. Considering he has made a decision and stuck to it despite what must have been ENORMOUS pressure from channel, I am guessing he has a very good reason for what he's doing ... whether it's professional or personal is none of my business. If he really wants to try for BW, all the best to him, he has never made any secret of the fact. And by showing this announcement, SP has told BW producers the guy is available. They have also told other channels that he is unavailable ... so some win, some lose for Barun.
For BS fans ... they feel the ticker shows SP's pettiness and vindictiveness ... but SP has also acknowledged that for once, the actor IS bigger than the character, what's more, he's bigger than the show. If that's their way of paying him tribute, they've done so. If that's their way of passing the buck to him, SP is the one with egg on their face because they've actually landed up praising him.
For the creative house, and for the other actors, it's actually a far bigger insult ... to the cv's, that their product was so unstable and flaky that one major actor walking out results in collapse of the entire show, a lack of faith in the cv's and PH, and an acknowledgement that it was the actors holding it together ... namely Barun. It is however an insult to Sanaya, who did hold the show together during Barun's previous absence. But it is definitely a slap in the face of Gul and the PH ... acknowledging that her show has nothing more to recommend it apart from the actors.
I console myself with the thought that if Sanaya had been the one walking out, there would be NO QUESTION of the show surviving at all ... BS might be the face of the show, but Sanaya is the heart and the backbone, Watch any episode, and you will see the truth of what I'm saying. In the last two episodes, which depend completely on banked scenes, as BS?SI are in the UK, notice how much Sanaya is on screen, and how much Barun is.
And I hope that SP acknowledges this by making sure Sanaya reappears on screen very soon, thus reiterating their faith in her. My main interest in this whole fiasco is Sanaya, because Barun has made his decision, SP followed it by theirs, and it is Sanaya and the other actors who are suffering the consequences. Which to mind, is not completely fair. But large business houses are rarely fair, and it's usually the quiet uncomplaining ones who suffer.
For the average tv audience, I would guess, one of two reactions ...
The show's shutting down? Because the actor is leaving? Why didn't they just find a replacement? I want to see Khushi's journey ...

Dia, I am one who believes that love stories should not be stretched between 1-1 1/2 years because they all end up becoming messy after that. If this show maintained the pace they did till February and did not have to contend with the prolonged kidnapping track, they could have neatly handled their tangled past, given a more measured exposure of Shyam (hopefully with the help of a recovered Shashiji), interwoven the Payash track with the Arshi track (with Arnav helping Payal fit in with the Raizada society), showed Khushi's evolution into a sophisticated woman (much to the pleasant surprise of etc, all within this time. We could have then had a decent ending, hopefully with Arshi as expectant parents. Now it leaves us with a sense of dissatisfaction because many of the loops have not been closed because of the careless handling of the story, which in turn could have been precipitated by actor non-availability and channel interferance. Since the PH has a history of shoddy treatment of its own products (not to mention the low production values) one cannot excuse them from this fiasco either.
DeleteIdeally we need to have this culture of good stories winding up when they are still on a high because the story which was originally conceived has been well told. Until that day comes, we will just have repeated fiascos, rants and general dissatisfaction of the aam viewer.

I think LM's interview with BBC Asia was also purposely done. That news about a new show with IPK cast in 1-2 months tims, SP's way of looking out for the other cast and stars who have brought them so much praise. Especiallytheir very own Sanaya. I am thinkign it will be Viraf and Sanaya in that show. LM is other PH not 4Lions anyways.
Yes industry is watching and SP is sending its messages. But true as audience knowing what you fight for is a must. We were always fighting for the Arnav Khushi love story. I recall saying no new woman in Arnav's life and no new man in hers because teh starr crossed destiny itself was enough. So whoever felt these ideas would work is to blame - be it PH and/or Star.
I am sure that Viraf was a replacement for BS and it would have still been an Arnav Khushi love story for SP too. But yeah many may not have continued to watch. But V's fans would have joined in and in the net net it may all have worked out but for the "leaked" news that no BS = No Arnav = No IPKKND which is what it has finally become.
Btw tell me this when did IPKKND start being perceived as an Arnav Khushi story? Is it because that was all that was shown to be left in a saga that once had beautiful relationships apart from ArHi?
SI keeping silent I think has been largely due to her contract and need to be able to continue in the industry (Saw Ash's posts on channel contract clauses). So she could not have made any public statement.
For both BS and SI, staying unaffected in public (well SI more than BS), shooting day after day while handling all of this would have been enormous pressure. I am sure both will be happy to take a short break and come back. And you know what in a way I am glad that it is is a new love story for SI soon it will start away from the shadows and shackles of the recent mess.

I agree a timeframe - 3 months, 18 months, 21 months and a set story line with key milestones plotted will be good to see on TV. Else this running forever and ever will only have such drama and beautiful tales getting lost in between.
Oh and agree on the PH having a hand - since Day 1 what has made me wary of them is this need to come out squeaky clean. Had they taken some muck onto themselves (accepted poor epis and to a lapse in attention when teh otehr show was to launch) they would actually have been more believable.

Barun, if you want or rather when you come back to TV, it has to be with SP and SP only....to other channels, back off the guy is headed for BW or else he belongs to us.
SP knows BS's popularity at its peak, so I am guessing especially after SPL, They are keen to retain him.
Now we still don't know if MAMR will be released in April for sure...It is IPL season and when you have big time movies fighting for theatres and at that time I believe it would be better for BS if he is in the public eye...I am being honest, would be still as popular in April in an industry which is out of sight out of mind.
So I am guessing SP might be looking at scripts and inviting PHs to present their concepts and letting BS choose...and it is business....as long he is popular he is bringing an audience they will retain him and then kaput.

DeleteAm with you there ... shows, especially love stories should come with a time period specified, 1-1 1/2 years at max. Ideally Indian telly needs to shift into Western mode, weekly or bi-weekly shows, and seasons. Right now, festivals, especially Diwali, are a headache for popular tv stars, they have to churn out daily episodes as well as take part in Diwali specials ... plus you have award functions etc. where they perform, all without a break in their daily shows. Switching to bi-weekly shows would improve production quality tremendously ... the earlier shows I remember were all 2-3 times a week, and their content was so much better. Not that I absolve the PH of the blame ... forget comparing QH and IPK, just compare the earlier episodes of IPK with the current ones ... the shoddiness in costumes, sets, and general execution now is so obvious!

unfortunately Khushi-Arnav is all the show has become ... Di, who was supposed to be the third pillar is forgotten, Shyam of course is out. They could have shown Arhi encouraging Di to become independent, lead her own life, even adopt Arav rather than Arhi landing up as parents of a 5/6/8 year old kid ... shown Khushi maturing into Mrs ASR, show the changing equation of Arnav with Garima, him finally calling her Amma.
Somehow they messed up each and every track, either by unnecessary comedy, or by wilting from fan pressure - the Sheetal track had a decent start, but ended with a whimper - WHY?! Why ask for fan feedback if you can't take the heat and can't stand by your story?
I also felt LM's interview was to reassure audience, and hopefully SP's way of telling cast and crew that they'll watch out for them. Don't know whether SP makes it a habit to reward loyalty, but this show has done a lot for their international image, so they might.
LM mentioned that BS might not be part of it though ... either they don't want to start with the baggage of Arhi so soon after IPK, or BS simply is not available, as he has repeatedly been saying. LM also mentioned personal reasons. And that's why I will also be happy if it's SI with a new guy.
Sanaya is amazing ... I am daily more impressed with this girl. She was completely bindaas and fun-loving in MJHT days, she has grown into a very mature person, who has this tremendous ability to deal with enormous pressure and not wilt under the strain. She actually manages to cover Barun a lot when she is with him ... he said as much in the Noreen interview.

SI has established as versatile. BS has to do that yet cause for now his success is typecast in the ASR persona.
In media, its doesn't take long for a positive development to turn negative and vice-versa....one can't control how fans will behave....but the fact is that fandom is fickle..anyone who is in this business knows this....BS may be fan's darling today...but these very fans will forget him in a span of days....for them the ASR thing was a big draw, added to that BS's unwitting charm...that he is a gud looker a bonus (but how long can he be ASR?)

for an uninvolved observer(except for commenting) like me, i see a guy who has tis fan following...quite by accident, doesn't seem to revel in it, has no special skills on a social platform to further that following, seems to look at all this with a sense of detachment altho all seem want a pie of him....yet atm all of it are conspiring to wreck his prof life and he is unable to do anything to do abot it so he is doing really the next best thing he can..put some distance between him and the controversy...by choosing to stay away becos that distance is important to him personally or professionally or both

DeleteI concur when you say compare recent IPK epis to the initial ones and the story and lead centricity is so evident. That is why teh fans were easy to trick into belief that no ArHi means not much or minimal story.
And I know I vented on forum32 when they said no story to tell - utter nonsense so much left unexplored or rather neatly set aside. And yeah the asking fans was a gimmick so you can lay blame at another's door while professing transperancy.
SP is going to look out for the cast of this show especially if the PH has been playing games as this show has given them so much acclaim. That would indeed be a good trend to set as a channel - we look after ours!
And yes I am all for no BS SI immediately perhaps later next year but not so soon - it will be dtrimental given the IPK shadow will be looming large. And yeah BS wants a break so he takes it and does what he needs to.

DeleteThat distance you speak of is necessary professionally too. He is so much ASR for the masses that if people watch the movie with that persona in mind I have a feeling that it would have boomeranged for him.
Plus that ticker was a public assurance of sorts from Star to BS short of a contarct because I guess he is not contarctually bound to them anymore. A reminder that when you want to come back you come home to us - like Dia and Shweths mentioned above.
NB anchoring well - light work and he could do it with Daljeet - usually last season winner host don''t they but SP could change the rule to ensure TRPs albeit indirect :)

If they wanted to retain him and let him go for now with all their respect, wouldn't it have been better to write that Sobti is leaving for personal reasons- or unavoidable reasons.
Or say that he is being forced to take a long break due to which they cannot run the show?
Why give out something which even Barun has not mentioned? He has so far said that he needs some time off and has denied any movie offers as of now.
Or else not mentioned Sobti at all- say technical reasons...what were they trying to achieve with that immature looking message? SP does not have a good PR team to remind them of the ethics of their profession?

DeleteIt was for the TV public a quick summary of the situation so far especially if SPL is slotted for telecast next week and people wonder how come he is there and in truckloads. He is leaving, we tried, he has made up his mind. The show is ending.
No scope for continuing with new pair or new male lead. Feedback is more for Oh we will miss him and hope to see him back on your channel kinds.
One part is to prevent people again making calls and harassing the call centre folks.
Second as a warning to the audience who has been pressurizing them - a wake up call that some things are best left to them to sort out. We should not poke our nose beyond a point.
And they subtly show how they can flash something like this and impact the actor for whom people have been calling.
Oh and WT by saying movies tehy also did free publicity for him so now the TV audiences who did not know he has a movie in the pipleine know :D

Yes he is a smart businessman, indfeed- he fdoes not mind discussing his personal life- why he left his wife etc. on the show. (Did you see the promo?)
I guess he goes well with SP's nayi soch of laying it all bare.
BTW, I was a big Aamir fan up till recently until he came out with SJ. (I thought his personal life was none of any one's business.) He has been exposed as a hypocrite by quite a number of people...and with the tears and all, and sensationalising every issue- I am sorry, I could not watch the show after a few episodes.
You are right, he is a damn shrewd businessman- no doubt about it. And a really good actor too- no pun intended.

ReplyDeleteHi guys! I am glad to hear that they have finally decided to wrap up the show with Arnav Singh Raizada and Khushi together. I genuinely feel for Sanaya Irani because she has been so committed to the show. I can't say the same for Barun Sobti/Gul Khan and co. I know I am being harsh on them but as a viewer (and a selfish one too!) I did not get the story that I was promised, and hence a sense of dissatisfaction will always remain in me whenever I look back at the love story. The offscreen drama never ceases to amaze me, rather it has left a bad taste in my mouth. I am now wary of watching any future show of Barun Sobti/4lions show. In my opinion, I seriously doubt if Barun Sobti intends to continue in television as a lead actor as he seems to have reservation of long term commitment to a show. As for Gul Khan and co. they do come up with unique stories but then they can't seem to maintain the consistency of story telling in the long run. And I hope they stay away from another love story for sometime otherwise the shadow of IPKKND will always loom large.
