Veera - new show started on Star Plus this week. So far, so good. Written by the writer of Astitva and BV, directed by the director of Maryada. The little boy is adorable and is a child! The Sarpanch, his wife, the moti chachiji, the friend ... all good actors. The friend's wife, the mysterious woman ... okay so far, haven't had much of a role. The general feel of the show is nice ... definitely planning to watch this one.
Update for the week - Ranvijay, the son of the much respected Sarpanch, sees his friends with rakhis, and he wants a sister desperately. With some help from his friend, he sends a letter to Rabji asking for a sister, addressing it to the local Gurudwara, much to the amusement of the Granthis, who tell his parents. The Sarpanch and his wife are keen for a second child, but haven't been able to have one. The Sarpanch's newly-married friend lands up at their house, he didn't tell his bride about his first marriage which broke when the bride failed to turn up.
The Sarpanch remembers he spent the night with the girl.
A mysterious girl has a baby out of wedlock, is turned out by her parents, and lands up at the Sarpanch's house, where celebrations are on because his wife is finally pregnant.
Qabool Hai - tried it, watched two episodes. KSG in a new avatar after his happy-go-lucky Dr. Armaan. He is a good actor.
The girl was okay in the first episode, okay in the second, till she opened her mouth for the fight with Asad. Didn't care for her dialogue delivery at all and her Urdu diction is bad.
Didn't care for the younger brother, and he needs a hair-cut - make that, he needs a lawn mower. Ayaan's family scenes ... acting is mediocre. The step-mother is bad. Her bhabhi's 'hum bolega to bologe ki bolta hai' is a lift from Pran ... and he did it much better.
Didn't really connect with the show - have only watched two episodes. But couldn't help contrasting the Arhi first meeting with the first meeting of Asad and Zoya ... the Arhi's first meeting was FAR more impactful and riveting.
Pyaar Ka Dard Hai - Adi-Pankhudi get married ... Dadaji tells Nanaji and Nanaji greets them - all well till then. Pankhudi says she will not come home till Adi's parents are re-united, and they won't tell Avantika aunty they're married till then.
Like really??!!!
Had a really busy week, haven't watched anything much else on TV.

Dia - Wasn't plan on watching Veera but based on your comments , will surely give it a try.
ReplyDeleteQabool Hai - Did watch the first week's episodes. Not impressed by Gul's casting. Really liking Asad, i think he would have been a good choice for ASR. Wonder wh he had given it up in the first place. Did not like the girl but based on her experience, she may turn out to be a good actor later. Her Urdu diction left much to be desired, wondering why Gul and company are not paying attention to such basic but key details. Hate the brother , way too OTT for my likings. Step-mom looks mental. Liked Asad's parents, both seem good. I'm planning to give this show a try , there's nothing else really.
PKD - I do follow this show , the parents are much better actors than the leads. The boy's too amateurish and the girl is void of any expressions.
Madhubala - My top choice at this point , the guy's getting better, liking Drashti Dhami. Their love story is just starting and overall the show has been good in terms of storyline, direction, execution and acting. No unnecessary comedy.
Coming to IPK , I have not been keeping track the last couple of weeks, there's no love story now. Read your blog yesterday and gave the ME a try. Loved the last scene, was relieved that the chemistry still exists, it's only the story that is the problem now. BS and SI were both looking beautiful.
Sahana
I too like Madhubala and agree that Vivian in improving by the day. As I said, Drashti effect is bound to rub off him. Love the way their love story is shaping up. The guy is giving more importance to the girl's family ties and is willing to overlook the danger to his life. I was especially moved by his conversation with his father-in-law who was trying to kill him.
DeleteI am loving Veera. It is too cute - the little boy picks up a baby girl from the hospital because he wants to have a sister. The cast is good and all can act.
I like Qubhool hai although I did not like Ayaan. Agree that KSG is a good actor who emotes with his eyes. Loved the scene at the dargah where Azad sees a weeping Zoya (who does not notice him) and immediately connects to her pain although he does not know who she is and why she is crying. The girl is passable. I think I can grow to like her if she improves on her acting. I have to admit that I did not like Sanaya very much at the start of IPK (did'nt care much for her looks and her acting was OTT, as her character demanded at the time) but over the months I've grown to like her looks as well as acting.
I too did not like the step family cast. Very mediocre acting.
Okay, sounds like Veera is a must watch, will let you know how I like it. I am sucker for love stories which is why Veera did not catch my attention.
DeleteIIn MB , really like the gradual progression of their love story. After the hate marriage back in February , I had hope for Arhi's love story to develop this way, instead they resorted to comedy and 100 ways to annoy ASR. You are so right about RK accepting her family , even the father just because he now cares for Madhu. They are doing a good job bringing out the sensitivities in both leads. I did not watch the initial episodes as it was hard for me to sit through RK's cruel behavior, now he's a lot more human :-)
QH - I've read that the girl has theater background which makes me think she'll do fine. Can't stand Ayaan , bad choice !! He just cannot act...
I think Gul couldn't handle the pressure of IPK fandom, hence decided to shift her focus to this new show.
Sahana, my penchant is actually for stories with women of substance ... my favorites are still Astitva and Saans. The moti chachi in Veera was the nanad in Saans, and she is a very good actress ... a bit loud, but very good. The Sarpanch, Sudhanshu Pandey is a good actor, not excellent, but good. I've seen the friend - don't remember his name or show, I think he's okay.
DeleteBut the fact that the director is the director of Maryada, makes me feel the show will be good ... some of the Maryada tracks were just superb, especially the track between the gay son and his wife, and the tracks between Devyani, BJ and Roshnee ... those actors were all excellent. So I expect the acting here will be of a high calibre. The kid has already won me over ... he is really good!
Those who want to discuss Madhubala, go ahead ... this post is for that! I haven't gotten hooked to that yet, but will follow the discussions and see if I want to watch it.
Same for QH!
I'm sold on Veera , have added to my DVR schedule :-)
DeleteI did not watch Maryada maybe will catch up when I have some free time. I think I've watched Astitva , it was many years ago, wasn't it? And I think I was quite a fan. Let me look up what it was about and confirm. Was it about a Jeejaji falling in love with his Saali and his wife completely clueless?
With IPk going downhill (for me only) , I'm like a lost puppy trying to grab onto something that can catch my attention. I miss my old IPK but not super excited about the current track. I don't think I'll be that obsessed about any other show anymore.
Scratch that... Completely wrong about Astitva . I now recall what it was about and yes, I was a big fan.
DeleteSome great discussions on the ME thread, will spend some time reading them now.
Have watched a couple of epis of veera....liking what i am seeing....the boy, sudanshu, shagufta ali (the aunt) excellent actors, the mother (sneha wagh) gud actor
Deleteliking the pace...am sure to warm up to this..the time is odd for me...hopefully it will have an engaging tale... am not one to stick around for social issue stories...not becos they don't interest me, i generally feel they do everything except address the issue in a serial after a few episodes...and .saas bahu serials just bore me to death.
Like U dia, loved saans a lot, I remember shagufta frm there..and Asistva was perhaps the last serial i followed for a long time before IPK......
On PKD, i tried to watch a few epis...the problem for me is I am not seeing a love story here...not even a spark of it...so i can't be excited about it..I like the lady avantika and i agree they are usin their entire a lot imaginatively than IPK but for me a love story is about the lovers....not able to connect with them...
I don't get Zee here...seems like a lot of trouble to watch something online i am not even entirely excited about atm...
hi dia
ReplyDeleteI loved the ME of IPKKND on 3rd nov - do hope that u will write a detailed edit on it... u make it seem much more magical than what the episode might have been... really really looking forward to it...
Asha,
DeleteDone! Had a hectic weekend, and didn't get the time... I wanted to spend time on it :)))
hi diya
Deletejust read the wonderful edit...as usual u managed to make the wonderful episode more magical and passionate.....
Cheers
i watched my first episode of QH today..
ReplyDeletei think KSG looks a lot like SRK there.. or maybe it is the cinematographer's talent. but somehow, every time he looks at the screen, i have the feeling that he is chanting "work it work it work it" in his head, perfecting that glower.
i did not like the adaa of the heroine. she has no grace, however much she dresses up(even in her sad avatar in the fb). if they were looking for a tomboy, they got her.. is all i can say.
Ayaan reminded me SO MUCH of a barun sobti look test video still up on the 4lions website. and hence, dia, lawnmower is right, but i think gul or someone fell in love with that look and wanted to cast exactly that.
the second wife's face is so overly made up that she herself looks fake.. but i think that is how they want it, just like a children's story, the villains are clearly marked. the one second she had the camera on her visage, she showed she was a good actress.
so, my interest is piqued.. may watch snippets, just like i watch MB or PKDH.
------------------------------
liked how RK is suddenly so soft on his biwi, that he is just a little boy wishing for a little love (seems awfully familiar) and ready to do whatever it takes to see his love happy.. and yes, like someone mentioned above, he has not totally amnesia'ed his angry persona, so thats good.

PKDH.. now that pankudi's hairstyle has changed, i feel she is emoting more!! maybe just a feeling, but interesting dilemma they have there.. girl promises to unite a separated parental jodi, and refuses to live together with her husband.. makes sense from pankudi's pov, because adi married her just for convenience, so it is not really necessary for them to live together, its just a piece of paper to Adi.. till he realizes that marriage is more than rituals, she does not really want him to be a 'husband jobholder'. makes sense, though that is not what she told everyone.
