13/11 - Epi 386 ... Moving Out ... Settling In ...

Tuesday 13th Nov '12

Happy Diwali!

Payash farewell ... very short and sweet! Too short ... but it seemed more than the characters, the cast was bidding farewell, the goodbyes and tears were very heartfelt. I believed today the reports that Barun and Akshay were actually in tears on the day of the shoot, they both and NK looked really affected.
And Anjali's mannat and raksha dhaga returned!
SN - Don't the Raizadas go to drop Payash to the airport? Or even out to the car? The entire shoot done with one set of cameras in the same hall - yesterday's episode and today's. IPK is really wrapping up ... or at least Season One is wrapping up for sure. And Sanaya was not there for the long shots, only for her close ups.

Next morning ... Raizadas have this enviable trait of being able to forget all earthshattering events very quickly ... like, overnight! So all get busy in Diwali preparations, ordering mithais of all sorts, gifts, food, mandir ... Arav is all confused as to what is happening ...

Arav goes off to poolside and starts making cards to sell, the way he used to do in the orphanage. Arnav feels bad ... especially when he talks about receiving donated toys and clothes ... and promises him a very different Diwali in his new home.
Arnav is such a big softy ...

Arnav Khushi discuss how to make Arav's Diwali different and show him how families celebrate ...

UMMM CV'S ... DIWALI episodes last year were among the most re-watched ... and we viewers remember each and every dialogue. KHUSHI did not want fire-crackers last year because child labour is used to make them ... and this year she's all gung ho about them?! Give us a break!!! Some consistency here please?!!!
And Arnav gives a long spiel about how dangerous they are and Arav is not going to be allowed ... Arnav is going to be one paranoid over-protective parent ... I would have thought that for a daughter, appears he will be so even for a son!
Or maybe am just visualizing my own family!

Nani tells the Ramayan story while all the family members make laddoos ... loved this scene. Something so sweet and grandmotherly about it ... all the younger members happily listening to a well-remembered and well loved story for the nth time.
They should have got Arav to sit down for it from the beginning.

Arav demands laddoos being made for the pooja ... Khushi refuses, and Arav throws a tantrum. And gets ticked off by Khushi. Shukar hai ... he had that one coming!

Uff ... what's wrong with Arnav?! Getting angry because Arav was refused a laddoo ... let the kid learn some manners and the do's and dont's ...

Khushi makes rangoli, muttering to herself about her LG and his one unbreakable reet of fighting with her on all possible occasions Other rituals he may or may not observe, but this one he definitely will!
Mami spoiling the rangoli ... trust Mamiji! And refusing to acknowledge it as a mistake ... typical! Helping foot!

Arhi ... Arnav says he can make a new reet also! The guy really can't stay angry with Khushi for too long, nor can he stand her being upset for long either!
Oops! Rangoli spoiled again ... and Arnav like a typical husband beats a quick retreat ... end of Rabba ve for the moment!

NK advertises Star Cricket in shudh Hindi and Arav throws tantrums again ... what exactly is his problem?!

And we end on Lakshmi Puja and Meri Ankhon mein tu muskuraye ... with a depleted family and a very grim looking Arnav, a solemn Arav and a smiling Khushi doing the aarti together ...  happy family ...

So is the next track going to be about Bringing Up Arav?
Happy Diwali again, everyone!

Adding an SBS segment of Barun, Sanaya and Mohit at the launch party of Khamoshiyan

So one of our theories is out ... thank God! Seems the main issue is just what we discussed.

  1. tears dropped down seeing the akshay-deepali sendoff.. awwww you are much loved, you guys!! (big hugs)

khushi and arnav fighting over different ways to raise a child.. hmm is that the new track? interesting to many.. not to me. i fight with my ASR everyday about different ways to raise a child.. and mine is not even adopted!! too big a can of worms, if you ask me.. and ASR seemsed honestly annoyed at khushi's reactions, not simply lovingly exasperated. that is something that raises my hackles.

I did not like the rabba ve happi diwali. i did not like him accidentally smudging the rangoli and copying mami... but i loved it when mami did it.

sanaya looks truly depressed.. her acting was affected today.

i loved NK's cricket commentary in "shudh " hindi.

and truly.. one day after the jodi left, they are celebrating diwali and amnesia has already set in? no comments about jiji or akash bitwa?

why am i watching this? because of you, R&R. (big hugs to everyone here) Happy Deepavali.

    1. Jaya,

Akshay and Deepali leaving was truly sad..i cried!! am going to miss those two..missed them in the aarti scene..kuch adhura laga.. and you know what? that scene looked real..like the whole cast was not acting but actually crying because they will miss them...

the rabba ve was fine..same old..it did not affect me like the old ones used to..

like you i was cribbing to my sister two days ago that i cannot believe i am addicted to a hindi show and all that and my sister looks at me and says "you are not the getting addicted type..more than the show i think it is R&R that has you hooked"..

      i agree!!

    2. Oh J,

are u sayin the new track is about parenting....how pedestrian....
the "run-the-course" of ideas was a death knell,i guess nobody wanted to heed...
The highs of IPK will never come back (doesn't appear so!!)
Viraf boy, admire ur courage...walking into the minefield..for that alone u get my vote!!

    3. Can I enter the minefield here and say I'm actually looking forward to the new guy and something new? The show feels as though they have already wrapped up and are just waiting for that THE END board!

Whatever ... it was a nice pleasant episode for Diwali, family being as crazy as ever was good to see ... and I have actually lost hopes for any good Rabba ve's in all this mess. The last good one was 21st September, they can never top that.

    4. actually i don't want any rabba ve's anymore.....thats my current feeling...becos its never going to be the same again...

btw, i watched khamoshiyan yesterday....its looking unnatural in the way it flows..but its the first epi...IPK was diff and we now know where it is....sigh

but i loved Mohit sehgal and his wide grin...San and Mohit make a lovely couple...touchwood!!

    5. today i watched the retelecast.. and the rabba ve made me cry.. he looked so apologetic and she.. so sad.. sanaya could not muster up a smile..

      and then i saw this..

and now i am having my own little pity party.

    6. Oh J...

i just saw this....this montage is powerful...
I was actually crying after seeing it...

I am feeling miserable...all for a fictional thing...i dunno why....
i am not even finding an outlet to vent my feelings at...becos i genuinely believe some iconic things come with their share of bad luck....not about BS, Gul or Star anymore...how else to explain why the end had to be so anticlimactic....*sigh sigh sigh*

  2. Happy diwali girls..

missed the Lus as i was busy in AD..i m sure i missed nothing spectacular...

IPK has meant so many 360 degree changes or atleast cause for introspection...

Actually i still remain confused after the discussions from the last post...

    just a few pence more...

I always thot that when u quit a job, its a call u take for urself....ideally diffi to bring anyone else's perspective into it ......so i am unable to see anything wrong in the decision of a person wanting to quit...becos as i see it...it is the lack of watertight contracts that caused the problem in the first place...it is to avoid messes like these in professional relationships that there are contracts, legal and binding and penalties if there is a breach...

Having said that...the humane aspect of it can always be debated, questioned and argued, which is what i guess we are all talking about.
However, in this matter, conjecture always skews the debate...becos i don't know the facts.
    for an example...
If i accept that Barun received a favour during
the kidnapping track, i am inclined to say that he should return the favour this time around if he is being asked to (i don;t know who is asking the favour tho)
If I accept that Barun did the favour by staying on when he was ready to leave, i am inclined to say that he has done his gud deed and now can move on...

    2. so true about R&R.. i have made many a U turn here, just because the girls here are so eloquent in their explanations that there seems no sense in continuing with my non sense :D

rekha, and your lawyer dimaag.. contract, legal, conjencture.. what are we doing, analysing a situation without any of the actual facts, except those that they fed us?

      Delete
    3. J, this is not connected to IPK...this may not count for much in the virtual world but R&R is a place for friends so i am saying this...
gud i got an opportunity to clarify this...i realised only much later that there is a feeling that i am a lawyer ..i always thot we were talking about padfoot...missed some posts (these were initial days when i was getting around R&R) felt odd to bring it up when i realised that....but since u brought it up, just want to say this am not a trained lawyer....my work in the past has made me conscious and aware of legal aspects and so i have a natural inclination to think that way...and yes, i am fairly aware of some branches of the law.(even if i am the one to say so)...so having clarified this..thats one aspect off my chest!! never remembered this apsect for a long time esp since padfoot is no longer regular here...but today opportunity presented itself..

      Delete
    4. LOL thats so sweet of you! to clarify that you are not a 'trained' lawyer.. if sandy or opti were here, they would have made my DKD and fed us boondi raita..

waisey, who do you support, arnav or khushi? does khushi need to apologise to aarav for scolding him, or does aarav need to apologise to khushi for throwing the tantrum?

    5. coming back to conjecture...

See its obvious, San will bear the brunt of the serial's poor show from now on, if the show goes downhill but i have known stranger things to happen....

I am still sure that the revenues the channel is talking about is something that has been analysed...and therefore their insistence to continue or alleast it is becos of a legal issue, something fans don't care for or are expected to understand.

I am sure the revenue model is such that the TRP's are only a tip of the iceberg...there may be other avenues and i remain a strict believer in the theory, in showbiz news sells....

It may just all turn out in IPK's favour even if it not to many fan's people's liking....also not to discount gudwill for San issue too...

      Delete
    6. Actually i have not seen the epi...will watch tommo

if u are asking from parenting pov...my hubby and i have diff styles of parenting but somehow so far...it has worked out well for us...we used to argue in the past...(ok make it i used to argue becos my hubby is laidback in his style) but i noticed that his style ended up in helping her in several matters so its the middle path for us...i am the authority in some and he is in others...works for us well (well most of the time atleast...)

on the specific issue, i will see and comment...for sure!!

      Delete
    7. Oh god...there i go again....i read aarav as arnav and wrote the ram kahaani...LOL

    8. J, in my opinion, Khushi should not apologise to Arav for scolding him, but Arnav can manao him and take the opportunity to explain some rules followed in the house, and also tell him he should understand there are rules for pooja, he might not believe in them, but his elders do, and they need to be followed. And even he, Arnav, listens to his Nani in this because she is the elder. Making it clear to Arav that elders cannot be talked back to, even if you don't agree with their rules.

Typical parenting - playing good cop, bad cop ... and at least in my house, I am the Hitler mom and kids can get away with more with their dad ... I scold them much more.

But when I feel, or my husband feels that I have overdone it, it remains between us ... my hubby then plays good cop, sweet talks the kids, and then tells them they have to say sorry for being rude. That is final ... whoever is right or wrong, but rudeness to elders is not tolerated.

      Delete
    9. Dia...HI5 on that!! its the same in our house and added to that is the added dimension of mine being an only kid..so we never want the kid to think that she cannot talk to us on an issue one of us have argued with her about....

    10. Aarav:
Did he even behave like a normal kid today,? This is how a kid brought up in an orphanage on old clothes and donated books behaves? Really?

Even if he is only six, he was brought up in an orphanage in the midst of nothingness and he throws a vase!

This is IPK season 2. Khushi who gave the bhashan to La about the ills of crackers is now all for bursting them to entertain Aarav and it is Arnav who nows gives the bhashan to her. Talk of amnesia - of the characters and the writers.

  5. On Barun's iv:

He says he'd like to work with her again and she says she hopes too. Why? So he can feel bored and walk out half way through? (Yeah yeah, scripted, I know.)

Dia, I agree with your final comments yesterday. This guy has absolutely no idea how San held the show together in his absence. Is he blind?

And I hope too that San will come out unscathed.
    And all the more admired!

Actually on the iv, whether it was scripted or not, and quite obviously it was damage control- I felt they were both being very honest. I still like them both as individuals, it is very unfortunate things didn't go perfectly well with them.

On the shock thing, I feel Gul was not there when it happened and thats why Barun mentioned it- that was definitely not scripted.

Gul openly admits they don't have a bank- this is a serious issue- no wonder the actors are being over worked. It is not fair to them.

  7. Hello everyone
I have been away, for a few, days, so I,have, just caught up with the onscreen and offscreen drama. I have to say that Barun is looking a mess. It's as if he no longer cares anymore about his appearance or the show. I suppose now thar he is leaving, it really doesn't matter, but I think the least he could do is smarten up and make an effort.
I have watched the interview with Barun and Gul I think that Dia is right. He wanted to leave earlier in the year, looking back that probably would have been better for the show and Sanaya. He may have been made popular by this show, but is he forgetting that the show was not just him. He is part of the whole cast and each person has put there imput into making this the best show. I hope in the future he will realise that without his costar Sanaya and the chemistry they have shared on and off screen he would not have reached such heights. Don't get me wrong I think both leads are brilliant, but at this moment my heart goes out to Sanaya who is being left once again with the whole show on her shoulders. I am sure she will do more that fine, she has talent, sorry to say but she is the better actor, and a professional to the end. I hope that as the show continues for the next couple of months people will see that Sanaya is the one who has been the major lead and that she can do it without Barun. I would love to see her in another show very soon.
Sorry for the rant, I just feel that Barun could have stayed on till the end, and then had his break. Sanaya also deserves a break as well

    1. This show originally was called "didi ki sautan" something like that. may be the writers and producers only briefed actors that the show will end when shyam is exposed and kushi, arnav get married. but now SP or producers or fans pressured caused the show to drag. mighthy ASR became second fiddle to kushi and her mindless comedy in the name of going to a movie, finding aarav's dad etc.,

so, sick of all this clueless tracks, barun decided to leave.. may be? why to blame him alone?
      S

    2. I don't see Sanaya leaving. She is also doing the senseless tracks the silly comedy but she is still there and carrying on. He is entitled to go, for whatever reason he has and good luck to him. As I said before he could have waited until the end. Only a couple of months more. Then everyone would have been reasonably happy.

  8. Just had another thought, if Barun does not make it in BW he will come back to the small screen. Will the people who cast actors be wary that he left before the end of the show causing problems for his fellow actor and even his friends. Also if his wife doesn't like what he does maybe he should for her sake change his career.

    Replies
    1. Lin, that's why I feel the public outcry and the fans are making it worse for him. If he had left quietly, he's apparently on great terms with Gul, he would have done what he planned - made an attempt at cracking BW, yet kept his door wide open for his return. Now with this huge drama, Gul might still give him a shot if he returns, but other PH's will be very wary of touching him. HE gets branded as an unreliable actor ... telly actors have to be prepared for their shows to go on for years. His last two shows didn't last even a year, maybe he thought this one would be the same.

I know of two other actors who juggle Bollywood and TV - two very good actors, in fact, Ram Kapoor and Ronit Roy. They don't have such a huge fan following, they take their breaks from their shows very easily, they return to their shows and nobody bothers. But the ones who have had huge fan following among the youngsters, have created a hue and cry when they left, have had problems when they tried to return.

      Delete
    2. Dia,

I have to say this...the very fact that Ram Kapoor and Ronit Roy don't have a great following probably helps them to quietly go about their work..
BS has a maniacal fan following..it will always to his detriment if people have such strong opinions about his career choices...esp if he doesn't seem to want it or care for it..never have i seen this guy play to gallery.

The very fact that he took this decision at the peak of his career makes me believe that he is willing to pay the price becos the cost of not going the other way seems heavier to him as per his assessment.

  9. Just added another link on the main post ... adding it here as well, for discussion purposes.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pczSWFHQmbo

So one of our theories is out ... am I glad! My final conclusion as before ... Barun wants to try his hand at BW strike while the iron is hot and he's riding the crest of his popularity, Gul has lost interest in the show, either because of his loss of interest, because for her, IPK was always about ASR ... or the other way round, he feels she has lost interest so he might as well get out and explore other options ...

SP wants to keep the show on and milk it for as long as they can ...

Sanaya is sticking because a) she's contracted to SP, and b) if she stays till the end, hopefully SP rewards her and gives her another show, plus she continues with the SP outings and shows.

Agree with Lin that he should have stayed till the end ... the thing is, the longer he stays, the more difficult it gets for him to leave, and he probably knows that. If he had left in Feb as he wanted, then people MIGHT, just might have accepted a new ASR. Now they won't.

The only thing I really don't understand is why he's being so stubborn and refusing to stay on for even a couple of months. Or maybe behind the scenes his advisors, or he himself, realise that it won't solve anything - there will still be a hue and cry whenever he goes.

    1. One more reason for San sticking around: She is a sweetheart and wouldn't dream of breaking her fans' hearts and also she is not selfish to get out, knows it'd affect the lives of many who work hard behind the scenes.

So she will stick around like a true professional even if Barun and Gul have lost interest. She will stay till the show goes on.

    2. Su,

Ur neutrality of perspective has made me change my view about Gul in the matter giving credence to the view that this mismash that IPK has become is a result of many cooks spoil the broth...or shall i say a combination of many unfortunate events, some avoidable and some unavoidable...

now to see u make a strong comment...what are u doing to me? tera and mera jawab nahin hain...LOL...some parallel banks of the river...never the twain shall meet..KYA HAIN LADKI? we have now found a new reason
      to do more bak-bak kya?*rofl*

Having said tat...about San, i have fond regards for her
just for example, i never understood why Khushi could not have an image makeover in the serial after becoming KKGSR when Anji was flaunting all her new sarees everyday)i could say that was great provocation for any actor yet San seemed to go thru all that very valiantly..as with the butcherisation day in and day out...with her character...sometimes i think the PH was provoking her to quit and she did not (i don't know how channel contracts are but i am sure, if she had put her foot down, many of her concerns may have been addressed..for that alone many many marks to her!!she is a thorough professional, no doubt)

  10. Lin can't reply to you post so writting here .... "Barun could have stayed till the end but is the show ending?!"

    -------------------------------------------------

He is there in the mid of the mess. He knows exactly what is the scenario and what is to be done. Be it his personal or professional life. If he wanted to go for clean break back in Feb, I respect him more. He did not want to sail in 2 boats and hamper himself and the show too. It was the makers choice to hold him back. He has kept his cool. Did not give any contradictory statement. He has stuck to his "I am taking indefinite leave" stance. Burning bridges is not a wise decision. He has a life to lead, earn and build his career. No good in making things ugly. As for September "I'm did not quit" there is something known as loyalty and comittment. SP hiked dinner price from 150 pounds to 350 pounds and it was for Sobti. People accept or deny that's the fact. He had to give it to SP. Otherwise SP would have been in deep waters that too dirty ones.

He knows exactly what his fan following at the moment is about. He understands the charisma of ASR. More than half of them won't be there after IPK winds off.....from his life or screen completely. If he wanted he could have manipulated fan power and made SP and PH dance on his tune. He is saner than that.

I cannot comment on whether his decision is right or wrong. Only time will tell.

As for the mess. None of them would have been created if 4Lions din't come up with all those FMD post in their official website and equally stinky response to fans cry. SP should have strictly said about his leaving which he himself have claimed "I am taking leave because I want to spend time with wife and family" rather than giving contradictory information and talking about his movies. Its none of their business. If not for PH, fans would have accepted Baruns word far easily than they are doing now. Gul had to take Baruns help to save her a**. An actor has to have a lot in him to make makers feel they need him and be humble about it.

Coming to his wanting some time out for real life. I support him wholeheartedly. I will be very happy if this is only about his life and wife rather than conspiracy.

Show ek aur ajayega, it won't be ASR - a character meant for him, his claim to fame. That does not matter much because actors who have strictly done TV shows only for years have achieved nothing other than steady income. He can do that later too. Biwi ek aur nahi ayegi .... Ayi toh bhi woh Pashmeen nahi hogi and that matters the most. Jaan hai to jahan hai or rather new one making rounds is Jab Tak Hai Jaan. Har pal yahan jee bar jiyo .... Kya patah kal ho na ho !!!

I know I am Sobti bias. He has given me no reason to be otherwise. Love him and wish him all the best.

Coming to IPK, I am the only Sobti fan I guess who wants the show to continue too. Its business and its Sanayas show too. If they can carry it forward in terms of TRP why not?? I will stop watching that's a different issue.

    1. Sama,

Count in your group too... simply becos i think, one remains responsible for one's choices in life...No one (that includes all parties )can take decisions on the basis of fan sentiment..Its not possible to do that....

I have enjoyed watching BS bringing ASR alive on screen. Personally difficult for me to accept him not being on screen to tell the story anymore...if Viraf were to portray ASR, i am not sure how i will deal with that now...simply becos there is no point in talking about something i don't know about. San is a wonderful actress and I want the best for her and that means I want the serial to do well just for her sake.
I have been disappointed with the storyline for a quite a while now and this is much before the quitting rumours began....it appears now that the seeds of discord were sown quite a long ago..reasons too hazy for me to conclude who contributed to what!! so i have made peace with the fact that this fictional story that i grew attached to will not be told atleast from ASR's POV as i had imagined...
Aur bhi gham hain zamane main mohabbat ke siva

  11. Another thing I wanted to add has been said by Dia. His fans are making the situation very difficult for him. He has kept it as simple as possible and I believe has tried his best in keeping things good as far as media is concerned but fans are pushing him. Already what channel has declared as leave has been forced to change it to quit. I just hope fans don't reach a point where they damage his career.

  12. Sama, I said this back in May when Barun left for his movie ... that he was being unfair to the show and he should just leave. I remember all of you argued with me back then too. The fact that he wanted to do exactly that, makes me think the better of him.

I don't have any problem with Barun wanting to leave. His job, his life, his family ... he has perfect right to take his decisions.

But I'm a fan of IPKKND, the show, so yes, I do have the complaint that he has not been loyal to the show that has catapulted him to fame and given him so much. I'm not a BS fan, I'm an ASR fan ... I'm very clear on that. If there is another ASR and another actor who can play him as well, I will be happy - I would have been equally happy in May itself. So the fans are bugging me more now ... if the guy wants to go, let him go! He's answerable to his wife and family, not to them. If he can't do justice to the show, and he doesn't want to try, he should leave. That's what he's trying to do, let him do exactly that. What he does with his life is his concern. Yes, he's a good actor, if he doe well, all the best to him ... if he does something which interests me, I will watch it. I have no problem with Barun Sobti, the person. I don't know him. It's the actor I liked.

If Sanaya wanted to opt out, I would be equally upset with her ... for a different reason - I am more a Sanaya fan, and I like seeing her on screen. I'm a selfish viewer, I want her on my screen. And I'm even more upset with Barun because of that ... because of his lack of interest, the show will shut down, and I won't get to see my favorite actress. But I'd rather the show shut down and she got a new show with a better PH than this one, because this PH is clearly not interested in the character of Khushi. Or rather, Gul is not.

Having said that, I am the most upset with Gul, because I hold her and the cv's FAR more responsible for this mess. They have lost interest in the show and it clearly show. Whether it comes from the lack of interest of Barun, or the new baby - which came first, the chicken or the egg, I don't know.

How often have we on R&R bemoaned the lack of strong parallel tracks, the lack of focus on family reactions, the feeling of rushing through tracks and scenes?! Yes, it's a daily, but when we as viewers can see so much going wrong, do the makers lose complete sight of what they're doing? Or was the interference by the channel increasing so much that Gul got fed up that she couldn't tell her story the way she wanted to? And hence she lost interest?

Like I said, I don't know which came first ... but a very good show, the first truly different one of its kind has gone down the tubes, and I'm not happy. Barun got his fame, made his money and wants out ... I understand, but I'm not happy with his attitude. Gul lost interest for whatever reasons, I'm not happy with her ...

SP ... they're a channel, not a production house, if they felt they had to step in so many times, means they also saw things going wrong ... they are the biggest GEC in India, one has to give them credit for some business sense, and also for being ruthless in pulling non-performers off air. They're running a business, that doesn't work on emotions unfortunately. Well, actually it does, but those emotions have to translate into numbers ... till they do, SP will keep IPKKND on air.

Yes, they sold the UK trip tickets on Barun's name, so they wanted to keep the news quiet ... but then they signed up Barun for Diwali and for the trip to sweeten him and keep him on ... they paid for him, and they're recouping their investment. He has made money out of this UK trip too. Not saying he's not entitled to ... he is. And he has.

    1. At the end of the day, it's business as usual. Shows come and go ... we fans get emotionally attached, but for the actors and the creatives, it's a job, it's their profession. And like everyone in the world, they work for their families and for making money for their families. After a few months, the show will end, we will move on ... I don't even watch the edited versions of so many scenes of my old favorites which I had downloaded earlier, because new ones keep coming. But the actors and the cv's have to work all their lives ... because this is their livelihood. Fans' memories are short-lived, but if they make things difficult for their favorites, they actually make things worse for them. I just have to look at the examples of people like KSG, RP, Shilpa Anand ... all people who inspired a lot of hysteria in their day, and they are all struggling now. Whereas people like Ram Kapoor manage to sail happily in both boats, do good quality cinema and some decent TV ... if they're lucky, once in a while they get some iconic characters to play, the rest is work as usual.

The same for BW stars actually ... I was watching a clip on SRK, where the commentator mentioned that SRK has tried to break out of the romantic hero mould so many times, but he's still remembered best for DDLJ, KKHH and KKKG. Same with Amjad Kahn ... he's still remembered for Gabbar Singh, that iconic character ... that character gave him a successful career in BW, but I don't think he ever did anything to top it.

Have to mentions Amitabh Bachhan and Naseeruddin Shah here, as we were discussing NS a couple of days ago ... these two actors are exceptions ... they have done a huge variety of roles and are actually remembered for all their different faces ... hats off to them!

    2. Dia - Wishing you and everyone at R&R a very Happy and Prosperous Diwali!!

Dia -I think I have always been on the same page with you in regards to Barun wanting to leave and his constant need for taking time off because of the long hours he has to put in for IPK.
I wish him well but my sincere request to all his fans - If his mind is not in IPK, he should leave. This was a role of a lifetime for him, I highly doubt if this kind of success can be reproduced through some other telly show. All credit to Gul for envisioning such a character and BS did complete justice to the role. But completely agree with you, if some other actor can be just as good, I am willing to give the new guy a chance.
I have not been actively following the offscreen drama , just caught up on some of Opti's and Su's posts this evening, fantastic perspectives.
I was a die hard fan of IPK and would like to remember it with fond memories. The show has been going downhill for me since the last month or so and the offscreen drama was the ultimate blow. I no longer feel like watching the episodes. My heart does go out to Sanaya, I have to say that I love her professionalism. I simply love the way she carries herself with the media. I do hope that she gets all her due credit from what she has given to the show. One shoutout for Deepali and Akshay , both troopers, went out gracefully without causing much noise.
Hope BS gets all the rest he is looking for , he has lost me as a fan.

    3. Dia,

Agree with you. I don't fault Barun. The man just stumbled into this field. I remember an old interview in which Karan Wahi mentioned that he had given Barun's photograph to a producer who wanted to cast him because he was not available at the time. So in a way Barun owes his presence in T.V to Karan. Anyway being a private person, he is really not cut out to handle the huge adulation (which he was least expecting to have). He comes across as a guy who would want to make a decent living, doing what he loves to do and at the same time have enough time on his hands to spend time with his family. He doesn't seem driven enough to sacrifice his leisure for fame and fortune. As you mentioned in another post, he gets bored easily, a fact mentioned by Sanaya and admitted by him. This is the only show he has done which went beyond a year. So am not surprised the guy got bored and wanted a break. To some it may sound foolish but I can well understand where he comes from. At the end of the day each one of us wants to be happy with what we do. If that happiness comes from spending more time with the family than chasing dreams, so be it. To each his or her own.

The way this PH was operating left no room for personal life for the leads. It was too lead centric and the fact that they kept changing the script often meant there were no banks. I wouldn't buy the argument that the channel was interfering too much with the storyline. The other shows in the channel have far more frustrating story lines but the channel seems to let the PHs tell their stories at their pace. Going by my past experience with this PH, I am not surprised by their shoddy tracks. They have great story ideas and some fantastic brains but do not have the tenacity to carry on without distractions. That is the recent they give brilliant scenes and not brilliant tracks, the reason why people can make fantastic VMs of their shows but may find it difficult to rewatch their shows in their entirety.

As I knew what to expect, I have consciously refrained from getting too attached with this jodi. I am happy though that I discovered another good tele-actress in Sanaya. I had seen a few episodes of MJHT but did not like her character much although she was reasonably good. Preferred the more bubbly character played by Rati. The show itself was not gripping enough for me to hold on. So I started watching IPK expecting very little from the show. I wasn't too impressed with Barun's acting in the beginning although I must admit Sanaya impressed me with her spunky attitude. I hated his voice and his expressions were limited but over the months he improved by leaps and bounds and now I would say he is one of the finest TV actors we have around. The only area he is lacking is his dialogue delivery. In fact, if he is serious in pursuing a career in the entertainment industry he should join some classes which would work on his enunciation. So to give the PH its due, it did help unearth the talent of both the leads and am sure they will do well wherever they go just as the leads of their previous show seem to be doing.

  13. Dia,

I never suspected that his wife will be jealous of his co-star. Although little is mentioned about her, she does not appear to be so petty. Sarun have also not behaved in any manner which can give rise to any rumours. If anything his wife may have been unhappy about not being able to spend enough time with him, which is perfectly understandable considering that they got married just two years back and he has been involved in one daily soap or the other throughout their married life. Barun cares enough for her feelings to give her that time even at the cost of disrupting the apple cart.

  14. Dia,
I agree with you regarding Barun Sobti's departure. It is his life and his decision. And I respect that. But my complaint is that the tracks were all rushed to accommodate his leave. If only he would have left at the time of shooting the movie, then maybe there would have been a proper closure of the "love" story. It may be a dark story, as you guys did mention. But it is still a love story for me (unconventional, I admit) and a unique one, I really feel. My only remorse as an audience ( a selfish one too) is that the story was never told in the way it was planned to be. Of course, I am just assuming that Gul Khan would have told a different story under different circumstances. Too much of wishful thinking, I know. If the CVs are still interested to progress with the story after replacing Barun Sobti, I don't have any reservation of watching the show. I am a fan of the show, a fan of the journey of the two star crossed lovers - Arnav Singh Raizada and Khushi. But looking at the recent tracks, I don't think they have any intention of keeping the show on air for long.
