I'm watching Punar Vivah off and on ... last Wed/Thurs there was this very cute scene where Arti has morning sickness, Yash wants to get her a lemon but she doesn't let him leave so he makes her sniff his robe (he's just out of the shower) because he showered with a lemon scented soap. At the end of it, they both end up laughing helplessly at how silly they both must have looked.
PV also has two other tracks running - Arti's first husband is back, suffering from cancer and Shobha wants Arti to make Ansh (their son) donate bone marrow to save him. I don't know whether such a small child can actually donate marrow but the track is decent. Also Paridhi, the third bahu is in trouble. So three solid tracks running alongside each other.
Also watched a couple of episodes of Madhubala where Madhu gets RK ready for pooja ... she helps him wear his kurta. Could not feel that explosive chemistry of Sarun ... they were pleasant to watch. Last I saw, Dipali drops ghee over Madhu's sari and makes her change into one of her own saris, which for some reason gets RK mad.
Watched Phir Subah Hogi ... uncle and nephew are in love with the same woman. And Uncle's wife is typical vamp. Eww. Stopped watching.
Watched last episode of Revenge ... Amanda's mother is out to kill her own daughter. Don't know why yet. So Shyam is not the only psychopath around, even Western shows have crazy parents.
Am quite pleased ... I think Mohit's new show will come in place of Ek Doosre Se Karte Hain Pyaar Hum - that show is unwatchable, Khamoshiyan will be hopefully pleasant timepass while I wait for IPK.
Also watching Pyar Ka Dard Hai ... Adi is clueless about his feelings for Pankhudi ... remember Samrat-Gunjan, anyone? Adi is a better actor than Mohit, Pankhudi is quite pathetic as of now. The parents and grandfathers are great to watch. Both sides have evil mamas ... what's with evil mamas all over the place? My own mamas are both such loving men, and my older mami is really like a second mom. Much like Manorama mami, minus the sharp tongue.
All discussions on these and any other shows welcome here! I'm planning to give Veera a try ... will also try Qabool Hai, but I don't want to like it ... I'm annoyed with 4Lions for abandoning IPK for that three-timing apology of a man - KSG. Besides, I'm not impressed with Zoya at all. It will have to be really good to hook me.
SN - KSG can act well, though.

Eid mubarak to my friends in R&R
ReplyDeleteDia, i watched the sbs segment on qh, the girl was talking about being educated abroad being an NRI and then she went to describe the dress she was wearing and the colour "cumbination" and i said satyanash there goes all the diction classes that these guys have been attending ; read somewhere that ksg also attended urdu diction/vocab classes...if i watch qH, it will be only to see how he manages on the diction front...
it is being shot in bhopal...must be like the lucknow of the ipk..once seen, always remembered..baad mein kuch nahin...'
Gul belongs to Bhopal so she may do better justice to that area than she did to lucknow...mera grouse will always remain..
Eid mubarak to u too - funny u mention diction - diction died a long while ago - when Khushi is khu-shi or khu-si - what more can you expect? :D:D
DeleteDia..thanks for this post! :-) m quite liking pyar ka dard right now..and yes, for the same reason as you mentioned - it reminding me of samrat-gunjan.. :-) and totally agree with you about nakul (adi) being a much better actor than mohit..i also like that mom avantika.. And actually the mami's frustration is pretty much understandable IMO..as for pankhuri, I think her character sketch is pretty nice, though the actress needs to improve bigtime.. :-)
ReplyDeleteWill comment here on and off.. :-)
Mads, my knowledge of PKD is strictly from the promos, whcih seem to have lessend a bit I think?
DeleteThe guy is pretty okay, the girl bhi theek hai, Damn SARUN have spoilt us quite a bit I think:(
shweths, yes..the promos had lessened, don't know way! :S anyway the show's suffering from low TRPs...and I heard some spoilers which state that the two leads are gonna get married now..apparently the girl's wedding is called off and to save her izzat, the guy is going to marry her..but the guy hasn't realised of his feelings for her while the girl knows she loves him and that he doesn't love her..
DeleteI basically started watching it coz it was based on arranged marriage ka concept...it had one of the songs of vivah picturised on the leads and vivah being my all time fav movie, I started watching some scenes here and there, but then the story line changed to friendship turned into love...now for me, the standards of this kinda love story have totally been set by samrat and gunjan from MJHT, so I WAS a bit apprehensive abt watching it, but then the lead hero caught my attention.. he is a damn good actor and is able to portray the innocent yet charming persona of the character adi.. :)
and talk abt SaRun spoiling, well don't worry, even I thought I wouldn't be able to look beyond MoNaya when they were on screen for like 3 yrs... :) but look now, I can happily watch Sanaya with someone else.. :)) and this is inspite of MoNaya being a real life couple... so you will be able to look beyond SaRun and set new standards, that's for sure.. :P
speaking of MoNaya, I am actually curious about how Mohit's show will go on..he was totally average as Samrat when MJHT began, but improved soo much later on and in S2 he was fabulous! :) so if the character is something similar to S2 ka samrat, I think mohit will totally rock it.. :)) waise any idea who the female lead is?
Mads I used to love Gunjan more than Sajan. Mohit was average, quit watching when it became a bit too much and started watching LNMDJ...Did see him in the season thingy with a stubble and a specs, he was good, was surprised actually.
DeleteWho knows he might have improved a lot.
So marriage is in cards for PKD, saas bahu drama in store lagta hai.
Dia, I too watched that episode of Punar Vivah where he asks her to smell him to get over her nausea. To me the scene was quite nauseating and I find GC very mediocre in the show. Strange, because I really loved him in Geet and thought he was brilliant there. Goes to show the man is a director's actor or maybe Barun has set a higher yardstick. I must mention that in the start of IPK I found Barun mediocre despite a strong script and GC was still pretty good in the low phase of Geet which was going on then. I feel Barun has grown by leaps and bounds once he has settled into his character and now outshines all the T.V.heroes. Will have to see whether it is the character or the actor which has woven the spell. For that I will have to see him in another show in a completely new avatar.
ReplyDeleteComing back to Punar Vivah, the show has a very strong script and as you mentioned, is developing parallel track and not getting hero-heroine centric. This is a big plus for the Mittals which sadly 4lions lack. They tend to veer towards the lead pair and forget to develop and utilise the rest of the cast effectively. Where I feel they score over the Mittals and the rest of the daily shows on the platter is in their sleek and fairly well paced narration. A lot is cramped into every episode that you don't feel it dragging as you feel in other shows. Punar Vivah on the other hand is mostly painfully dragging, the reason I don't have the patience to watch the entire 30 minutes. I was also quite put off with the characterisation of Yash. No emotional connect there with the lead pair.
I have been watching MB regularly for the past one month and I must say that it is interestingly poised at the current point. Drashti has always been a good actress and I feel she is doing a good job here too. The chemistry between the leads, however, leaves much to be desired although of late there is some improvement from before. Vivian does need to work on his facial muscles to bring in more expressions. His diction and dialogue delivery though is better than Barun. I would given him some time for after all he only has the experience of playing a vampire where he wasn't supposed to be expressive. In Drashti's company I do have hope that he will slowly blossom as an actor. That girl has so much verve, she can pull any one out. the only problme is sometimes she ends up overdoing it but those times are few and far between. She is breathtakingly beautiful with a fabulous figure. So I guess this will be one show I'll continue to watch.
I too want to give Veer a chance. I was touched by the promos which show a little boy playing peeping tom to learn to plait his sister's hair and sew her buttons. I always find close bro-sis relationships quite heart warming, maybe because I never had a brother myself.
(contd)
ReplyDeleteI watch Parichay now and then but the hero there must be the dumbest of the lot, though Sameer Soni does a good job of whatever he is given. EK will never learn. The plot is the most ridiculous and to think that it revolves around two lawyers who are supposed to be very bright. Shtir dimaag is a rumour everywhere I guess.
I don't like both the hero and the heroine of Pyar ka dard. the grandparents and parents are way better actors but the show does not emotionally connect with me although it is supposed to be emotional.
I will give Qubhool Hai a try because I know this PH can come up with absorbing stories and make good use of their cast. After my experience with Geet, I have learnt not to get emotionally invested in their shows, the reason why I am not too perturbed by the current track of IPK too. I am expecting the worst, so I am not disappointed wit the way things are progressing.
I think I've indeed come a long way in my serial watching experiences. My first addiction was to the lead pair of a show called Kayamath in SP during 2007-11. It was for EK's stables and stank like a cesspool before it wound up. I stuck to it till the end despite the progressively ridiculous tracks they kept shoving on us. I would say that this pair did have a positive effect on me because they brought out the creative side in me. I wrote six fanfics and made more than 50 VMs on them.
After my experience with that show, I ensured that I never got addicted to any pair from EK's shows. The next real addiction was Maaneet. My addiction did not go beyond making VMs but my love for this pair more than the earlier one. I simply loved the show till they decided to ruin it all by bringing in the unbelievable forgiveness track and butchered the story and the character further by bringing in the incorrigible Amritsar family. Arshi are now my current favourites and I watch all their VMs on my journey to and from work. Considering that I did this for the earlier two pairs who I am not currently so addicted to, I guess my addiction is only short term and I can get over the couple once I find a new couple to fixate on. Doesn't speak much for my loyalty but I guess it is my inbuilt mechanism to guard against unnecessary heartaches, considering that I had none in real life.
I think I really have rambled a lot on T.V.shows and should stop now. Sorry for bugging you.
Opti,
Deletehey that was a lamba and beautiful post...
some lessons for me there specially..
This is my first experience of serial addiction (ewww.how does that sound)and if u say that that u learnt not to be addicted to any pair from an EK show, i think i can safely apply that here to a 4Lions show..
I never knew anything abt the geet show and now when i read ur post...i get u must be feelin a sense of deja-vu with the current serial...i guess we make mistakes and learn...actually the only part in ur post that scares me is it a forever phenomenon.?..LOL....like jumping from one serial to another....that sounds ominous....hehehe
Frankly, i am yet to watch a single epi of Punar vivah or MB, tho i have seen some odd epis of PKD...the only persons of interest to me there are the older pair...and Paintalji..baki toh love story ka sense nahin aa raha hain...there is greater fire in the older pair..btw i also like the sister of avantika...she is gud..is she the bone of contention between the older pair? i can see additional sparks from Avantika whenever she looks at her
Opti,
DeleteMe too. I learned that leson from EK show, Kasam se.
It was a beautiful story about three orphaned sisters, with beautiful characterisation. I think EK really loses it somewhere in the middle, thankfully occupations in AD made me stop before the show deteriorated.
I read up on the story after i got hooked on to IPK and visited the net and I was aghast at how the story had gone on and on and on. So, I learned that important lesson with not much heartache. The next show I enjoyed watching was BALH, and again I was lucky that I got hooked on to IPK before BALH deteriorated. To her credit, it is not as bad as Parichay, though both shows took a leap in the timeline. BALH has become watchable again.
On IPK and Geet, I have only watched the YT videos. You are right, they don't allow the side characters to develop. But Geet was really painful in some bits, Arhi has not become that yet.
I feel strongly that Geet's characterisation was really underdeveloped and she looked silly to the core at times. Khushi looks ott, she has thankfully escaped 'silly'.There are many times I thought they'd make her silly, but K has always been strong headed, so you cannot call her silly.
I think though the PH is the same, the creative team is different. That makes IPK very special for me. And I think it will always be.
It is not just the story, it is also Arhi- Sarun. No pair in television can surpass them, for a long time to come.
On QH, Gul is supposed to get back to directing the show after a long hiatus. I guess it will be good to watch. But the magic that Sarun has, I doubt it will have. QH is being promoted as a family show, 'unlike their early shows, Geet and IPK which were love stories', apparently. So, I guess there will be more for the side characters to do. On the whole, I feel it will not disappoint, but will not be addictive.
I feel the same about Arjun.
Rekh,
On PKD- the younger sister protests at her di's autocractic behaviour. She sides with her jeejaji, like her dad does. Avantika has been misled by her bro and SIL and the son will not pick between his parents, but will side with his mom because he feels she needs his support.
Su, I don't know which scenes of Geet you had watched but the show was relatively good till March 2011 and went downhill from then on with shots of brilliance from time to time.
DeleteGeet's characterisation also was very good in the initial half of the show. She was shown to be very strong, bouncing back every time life threw a bouncer at her. She had to face far more than Khushi ever did. There Maan was the man behind her strength. His rough goading and ridicule made her stand up for what is right. A young girl who fought for the right of her baby to live when her family tried to force her to abort her child after they learnt the man they married her to had duped her, a girl who stood up against her cousin who tried to kill her and had him jailed, a girl who came to Delhi alone to make a life for herself and her kid, a girl who fought with the man she loved when she thought he was protecting the cheat who was his brother, and so on. To me Geet was strength personified till Maaneet marriage.
As far as silliness goes I think both Khushi and Geet are guilty of it. Did we not have ridiculously silly scenes of Khushi during the pre-diwali track when she thought Arnav had cast a spell on her and later when she was indulging in her 101 ways to irritate Arnav?
Geet's silliness increased after her marriage. There was only one track where she was sensible post marriage (the track where Maan goes bankrupt but alas they shortened that track and started the nonsense again) That is why I am fearful that they may make Khushi take the same route going by the recent track.
Geet had a good creative team but they shifted most of them when IPK started and dumped real rotten ones on the show. So don't be too sure about the fate of this show. So it is all left to the PH and my past experience with them does not let me trust them.
Maaneet too had brilliant chemistry in their heydays and were the only starone jodi to have one the best jodi award.
So unless you have watched the full show - the entire unswing and downswing of its graph- you may not be able to really the show, the characters or the actors.
Opti,
DeleteI watched the part probably post marriage, an office scene where he tries to get her to do more work and she protest at first and later on realises he did it because he wanted her company.
Khushi's tracks, somehow I don't find her silly. I agree it looks like she has a 9 year old's brains at times.
I think what I found lacking in Geet was (btw, I watched some of the pre- wedding scenes also- those were OK) was the subtlety, esp in the scene I mentioned above. Like you said, I watched the downhill phase.
And dialogues...that was what attracted me to IPK before I became addicted to Arhi.
Also, honestly, I like Drashti better in MB...so I guess like you said, 4 lions messed up with Geet's characterisation big time. I hope they don't do it to Khushi.
Eid mubarak to all my friends here*Hugs*
ReplyDeleteDia, a biiiiiiiiiiiiig hug for this post.
Opti I was thinking of you yesterday, was curious if you would watch QH - AFTER Geet & IPK. And it was good to read of your tele journey. Took one great advise there, make a conscious decision to be detached from any show from now onwards.
Dia, Ditto, the MB couple is decent but nowhere close to sarun who are exceptional. Right now they are in the falling in love phase so that should be excited and I am sure by the time Ridiculousness starts in that show, Sanaya would have moved on to another show by then.
QH I saw a SBB segment. KSG looks too old unless he is supposed to be a guy in his thirties, he is a bit of a drama queen and I like jennifer so I hope she has had a good influence on him.
Oh and by the way symbolism has already started, apparantly the scene they were shooting had KSG who is the older bro is chasing his younger bro and the heroine comes in between them..ha ha!!
I really want to watch Arshad's direction here, ofcourse he will continue to be in the shadow of Nissar and apparantly Gul too, so let us see.
And I know I won't get attached to the show cos the younger bro even though his name starts with A....will have loads of dialogues in the show, he is the second lead after all, so I am completely relaxed.
Also in MB, the younger bro is the hero, so no tension there too:)
ps - I am going to catch up on movies, THE current batman series, I absolutely recommend, brilliant.
Hey *ducks the danda*, can you make a single post on Movies where we can discuss the latest ones we watch and recommend hindi, english both? So for instance, if someone watches Jab tak hai jaan, they can post a comment and we can discuss it under those comments, so movies are easy to track?
It would be cool to discuss all sort of things and not end the association just cos IPK ends, what say?
Oh u shweths....
Deletelamba wala jhappi for ur post.....*HUGS*
A se parhez hain aapko? Angry with bitwa still kya?
Like Opti says i will wait to see Sobti boy in another avatar....
the way he has got in to the skin of the character here gradually...he has built that expectation that his next work (on telly land for sure) will be keenly awaited..
gud that the film he is doing is not the ASR kind...best to avoid stereotypes early on in career...varna u will always be compared to ur first best role...and comparisons drawn from there all the time....
and about R&R, Thank u Dia for this home, it has been a go-to place for me while i figure things about serial obsession....but really it hasn't been only about IPK all the time even tho the underlyin thread may have been that only....
Dia, so like shweths..i do hope this association can continue in whichever form and i hope more people will join this chorus....and make u consider it whenever its time to do that...I would have never known that a virtual world can be this sane, this mad and this warm..*HUGS to all* for bearing my bak bak
A = Akash rekhs, you know my criteria for loving a show right, the younger brother should not be getting much dialogues. In QH and in MB that wont be happening for sure.
Delete*hugs* Shwetha,
DeleteYou mentioned Arshad, Gul and Nissar in the same sentence. I love all three, may be Arsad the most. Now, I guess I will watch it for Arshad.
On KSG, from somewhere I got the impression he is supposed to be a man in his thirties.
Thanks for this post Dia...
ReplyDeleteI watch MB on and off..guess i do to find out why he calls her biwi and not by her name!! i saw the episode where he gets shot..Drashti was really good there (not as convincing as Sanaya..but still!!)
My cousin watches PKD..i hate the leads...they look completely fake to me..the girl cannot ACT!!
I sometimes watch Ek Doosre Se..mainly because it airs before IPK..don't enjoy it..the vamp is just too obvious!!
not sure if i will watch QH...KSG is a good actor but i don't find him too appealing..
Anita,
DeleteHe calls her biwi to rub salt in her wounds. He wanted to remind her of her humiliation, though lately it has become endearing, I think.
Did you watch the epi, where he brings her home after the wedding, lines her up with the rest of his servants, calls her servant no: 9 or something. Basically tells her she is just another naukar and he will call her biwi.
does nobody here watch arjun??? they killed sana khan
ReplyDeleteThey killed her?? how come? i watch it sometimes...it tends to get too predictable...
Deleteshe sacrificed her life it seems. died on the line of duty. i didn't watch the epi that explains how, only watched today whre she dies, in the hosp... the funny part, unlike every other hosp scene where the first thing shown is the patient is strapped with an oxygen mask... here she was obv having breathing trouble but the doc was too busy with his machines... nobody paid her the least bit of attention( docs i mean). she said all her dialogues to the respective ppl, and died in the arms of arjun if i mite add!
DeleteIt was something about she swallows the bio weapon that was supposed to be unleashed...gets some rare infection, I suppose. They killed her?
DeleteTrying to go realistic? Arjun is already sipposed to have issues with trusting women or something...am not sure. Got the impression he is recovering from the loss of a girl friend or wife or something.
i dont think he has issues on trusting women... he just has no time for women. he lost his wife... i think she was murdered right in font of his eyes and he couldnt do much about it. except beak the leg of someone.. and he was obv very much in love with her.
DeleteAnd they went and killed Sana, just as he was getting to like her? Poor guy!
Deleteyeah... sana/ria goes... arjun sir you always thought i neve understood you pain... but i did... because because... and dies (pardon my lack sensitivity) and arjun finishes her sentence, because only those who have experienced unrequited love can understand it.
Deletei liked only one of her dialogues, "pls let my father know that i was not afraid. not the least bit!" that was touching!!
I watched a couple of episodes of Arjun..and may i say..its like a bad imitation of an English crime series!! and also..the writers have read a lot of crime fiction...while watching i kept thinking..oh nnooo that is not original..i have read that somewhere!! disappointing!!
ReplyDelete
