10/7 - Epi 140 ... Santanu infiltrates the Ranawat Haveli

Thursday 10th July

Not much to update ... Shantanu introduces himself as the new BSD man posted for Paro's security ... and settles into the house.

Thankfully in the new haveli, they seem to have enough guest rooms ... he got a room of his own.

Nothing much happened, except for a nice Kishore Kumar song by Shantanu.

  1. OKAY, I know they are trying to lay the foundation for the Shantanu track, so wont complain about the short comings in today's episode.
But I was LOL at most of the scenes today, I think Vishal is trying to portray Psychotic killer or something on those lines but its appearing to be more like a joker!!
By the way where did the guitar apparate from? And Khakusa suddenly knows such details about him?, so is he really a BSD officer? or he is assuming the real Shantanu Kumar's identity whose details they have in the BSD profile?

Well one advantage of watching today's episode was that I know what I will be preparing for dinner tonight for my family- its HAKKA NOODLES !!! ;-))

  2. About today's episode- make all the family members naive and lacking in survival instincts and hero will automatically look "shatir". Waiting for the scene when Paro will ask Rudra to trust Shantanu!! Danvers, is part of BSD and all he learns of is hobbies of the new officer!!!

Now my rant, apologies in advance.

Today the TRP came out and blame game has started but my take is, granted the TRP system is faulty but it is the same system which evaluates all fiction shows across all channels, so in that sense it is a level playing field.

For me I got detached from the show long back, watching it more as a habit, for Sanaya and mostly to have conversations with my online buddies. For me the biggest drawback has been the story and screenplay. Concepts are interesting but the narration and execution are such a let down.

If we look back none of the major tracks were handled well. The foundation of this show was "rakh se rachi prem kahani". This tagline itself got lost. Till today I am confused about how Parud fell so deeply in love with each other so fast considering the complex mental and social situation they were both in. One a widow in rural Rajasthan attracted to her husband's killer and the man with major trust issues especially when it comes to women. Instead of taking a slow and gradual pace for the relationship to develop between them, once Tejawat was outed, all Paro wanted to do was marry Rudra and one trip to Mumbai makes Rudra aware of his love.

After the above what else is left but forced complications so that consumption does not happen?

This is just one example look at the state of other principle characters and tracks.

    - Mala and Tejawat (Mala completely forgot her second husband, after all the lovey-dovey scenes, no hurt, no sense of betrayal, no sadness, no memories). Now she is busy constantly parsing her son as the perfect soul.

    - Tejawat- whatever happened to him? He sent Laila to haveli, covered his face with a hanky and disappeared. What a destruction of such a mighty villain. What happened to this man who wanted to continue with the glory of his royal ancestors? So much could be made out of this character than a croc feeding baddy.

-Dilsher- till now I never understood how he mellowed down after one look at Paro sitting on the cupboard. After all the bitter flashbacks, this character deserved a gradual change of heart of not wanting his son to suffer anymore. What did we get -nothing!

-Mala &Dilsher- They now live under the same roof, what are the dynamics? Is it all easy to just forget and forgive?

Mohini- There is a story to her angst but not developed. Same with Sumair whatever happened to his running away to Jaipur plans, he is nothing but a unscrupulous sidekick to his mom now.

-Mythali & Samrat- wonder if Shatabdi will be forgotten in this excitement of new haveli and dimpled villian.

  3. Danveer- He betrayed his brother's trust and kept in touch with Mala, did he know of the domestic abuse, and marriage to Tejawat...now he knows his wife too never loved him but...

-Paro's mami- poor lady even Paro does not think about her, even when Paro has Rudra wrapped around her finger now.

-Lastly Paro because pretty much everyone here knows nothing from her side was explored, her desires, her hopes, her heartbreak, her pain, her trust issues after Teju revelation, how she fell in love with Rudra etc. etc. Nothing, nada from writers.

-Laila & Rudra- How conveniently she was turned into a nutcase, easy fix to a complex relation, now she too has disappeared.

Diya agree with what you wrote in your previous post, with Mala constantly praising Rudra along with other Ranawats, the general refrain being "Rudra knows best". He has emerged as the whitest character on the show, he can do no wrong.

The writers started by giving each character a reason for being who they are and then they cut corners or most often ignored them to make one character palatable to the audience.

Why I feel disappointed is, one, of course it is Sanaya's show, but more so because in all the interviews before the show started the producers, channel head and actors talked about how well etched the characters are and how the script was written diligently for months and two hundred episodes are already penned. Granted various pressures change TV shows, but from the very first month there were tell tale signs of the lop sidedness of story telling.

There is no doubt the team is working hard, but some where creatives did not remain true to the crux of their own story and the promos they made. They had good concepts, some novel ones too and talented actors but their execution has become very underwhelming.

I do understand that shutting the show would mean incurring a loss for the PH and the entire team so, here's hoping the new track and next couple of months somehow brings the team the required numbers as after all that is what they seem to desire most and right now they need it for survival too.

Again apologies for this long rant, but this is the only place I felt it could be expressed.

P.S. Just read on IF that Ankita Sharma quit RR. It was published in TOI.

    1. No apologies needed U. You have expressed very well the frustration quite a few of us feel with RR. With Ashish furloughed out to JDJ, the PH will probably develop Samrat and Sunehri's respective stories. Some version of Parud will probably be shown (with BDs) to keep the phangurls happy, but that will be it for a while. Does not sound promising, does it?

    2. If Ashish is not available why on earth are the CVs still making the new villain track Rudra centric? Can't they make space for Paro's fears? After all she was married to Varun and has married his killer? Sanaya is available full time and she CAN ACT!

Please, no Parud scenes at least with BDs!!

    3. U- you hit the nail on the head. You penned down my feelings exactly. What irks me the most is that the show has and had very good actors. With the exception of a couple (read Laila and Suneheri) everyone is very very good. And the story is unique. With the costumes and picturization this should have been a hit. But the tracks are so fast paced that the viewer is left far behind in the dust. Why the big rush? I don't get it. No wonder the villains want to quit- they have been left behind just to apease the TRP audience who apparently still don't care. Feel sorry for Sanaya- she deserves better. And not to mention the supporting actors - Anaya and Geetanjali.

    4. U, you hot the nail on the head. In a rush, will come back and reply in more detail, but I think you should post this on the thread in the forum where they're talking about ST's tweet, and discussing why the show went wrong. This needs to be tweeted to ST himself.

    6. Hello Ladies

Sorry for being MIA all this while. Not watching the show anymore. Took a break due to work and family. And returned to a show that was on a completely different tangent. I have been following it via the blog and discussions here, though.

U, I agree with you completely. In the rush to prove that he could repeat the success without Nautanki Films, ST ended up messing up his own dream project, and how! The downslide began with the one leg tapasya thing... it never recovered. Caught his tweet and the FB post earlier. Is the man really so clueless? We all lamented the fact that Paro's story was being glossed over... ended up being labelled blind, jealous fans. Its really disappointing to see a story with such potential reduced to this. Reminds me of another show I watched long back, YPNHK. It was supposed be a Hrishikesh Mukerjee/Basu Chatterjee kind of show. Ended up being a sasur bahu drama with an evil as hell dadi thrown in.

Read the discussion on Ashish on the other thread. I thought it was me who found him a bit arrogant. Recall his earlier interview.... did not secure an admission in a drama school. Deduced that he did not really need to attend it as he was already an great actor. Arrogance much! About his JDJ participation, don't really blame him. This is his first, and perhaps only chance. And of late, JDJ had been a springboard to Bollywood. Apparently, he devotes 12 hours a day to RR. The PH is also to blame here for time management.

Overall, disappointed for Sanaya. What makes it worse that people were rooting for the show to fail. Hope she catches a break on her next show.

  4. Sorry the word was consummation, not consumption on the post, gives different color to the argument altogether :)) Exactly Dia, these tables...

About posting on the IF thread, I deliberately stayed away from commenting on it. Did you see it now, it is on the brink of becoming a war zone...I just posted a comment in an attempt to stem it.

My rant could be misconstrued as an attack on someone (even though it is not) or spreading negativity, I don't want a riot on my hand. Infact I am keeping even my comments on the episodes very short, as I find nothing inspiring about them nowadays.

I posted it here as it is a less volatile place. Waiting to here from you Dia.

    2. U - I understand your reluctance to post on IF. I stay away from posting there as well. That's a place for arrogant women who think they know it all or youngsters who having nothing better to do but put each other down. I like Dia's blog because of the fact that you can post dil kholke and Dia always has a way of making sense of stuff and explains it very well. She's very level-headed ;)
