More timepass for the weekend ... and I want to keep up the success rate on the shiddats of our resident genie ;)
So come on, everyone, answer the following questions ...
- Name - or alias ;), age range, married/unmarried, kids, working/ not, where do you live - feel free to add whatever you're comfortable with
- When did you start watching IPKKND?
- When did you start following this blog?
- How did you stumble on this blog?- this I really want to know! :))
- What do you like about this blog?
- What would you like me to add? More links, pics, news articles, weekly predictions post ...
I'll go first ...
Name - Dia (that's a pen name I created when I started posting on a blog for the first time in my life - this was on a DMG blog over 3 years ago - not the IF one - it was a smaller blog, much like this one. I started posting there very hesitantly, and got confidence when my posts were liked ;) Made some great friends there and some of the friendships have spilled over into real life too. One of my friends from the DMG blog encouraged me hugely to set up my own blog to post predictions and short stories ... so that was how this blog started. Switched off from DMG when it went downhill and became really crappy, and I got hooked to MJHT instead ... the chief reason being Sanaya Irani - I loved her Gunjan, she reminded me of myself, an academic nerdy type through college ;) ... and I followed the show through its ups and downs just for Sanaya. I discovered IF when I was hunting for SBS/SBB segments on MJHT, and again joined it very hesitantly ... didn't post for ages even after joining it because the atmosphere was crazy - our old DMG blog was smaller and much more friendly and fun. Because I didn't want to post on IF, I started writing my takes on MJHT episodes here, just for myself ... I needed an outlet :) I did start posting on IF eventually, and stuck to a few friends there, Aarthi is among them ;) ... but I kept this up for myself - didn't even tell too many people about it.
When Sanaya's new show was announced, I decided to make this regular ... and make it kind of reference blog for myself with links for the SBS, promos etc - I now have a youtube channel where I add those, so have maintained the daily episode posts all through, except for when I travel. I started watching the show only for Sanaya ... I still do, but now Barun and SaRun are definitely added to the list or reasons ... I adore their pairing, they look made for each other on screen, and I love the intense love story. When MJHT was winding up, I used to pray for Sanaya to get a show with a serious love story, because the way she does her emotional, intense scenes is something amazing ... and with a good costar -(because Mohit, for all his charm, is too boyish looking - I wanted a MAN) ... and that is one shiddat which has really come true!!!
I'm in my 40's, with two teenage kids and a very tolerant husband ;) who is now a regular watcher of IPKKND - he started watching it after the Teri Meri SBS segment ... I am pretty sure Sanaya in the green sari did it for him!!! =))

ReplyDeletePersonal:
I am Shwetha, early 30s, Mom of 2. Quit my job to be a full time Mom:)
Dia's Blog:
Have been an IF member for a while, was on a break from IF cos not watching any show.
Started watching IPK, came to IF, was pretty much silent (Yeah, hard to believe right).
Used to read posts, slowly started getting familiar with the regulars till one day Dia's TWTW caught my eye.
Read it silently for 3 weeks, started looking out for her posts.
Then one Particular TWTW caught my eye - The one about the bandagement scene and Dia had mentioned a fab point which I had missed.
Did Khushi realize he came all the way for her that too to a temple a place which he avoids or does not believe in..something along those lines.
And I think I posted on that one and on a couple of others till I eventually got back to my style with a lengthy bak bak post and asked her about her Blog since she had mentioned it in that thread.
Got the address, Fell in love with it, IF was a war zone then, lol.
And pretty much started posting from Day 1 of the blog and haven't stopped yet.
One day actually got crazy and caught up with all her posts on IPK.
You guys should read those posts if you get time:)
Once again thank you for a place where we can vent, rant, make shiddats, joke around without getting pounced on or being misunderstood.
IPK
Used to love Gunjan and Sanaya in MJHT..Left it after it started going downhill.
One day caught the promo of IPK. Was happy that Sanaya was back and that too on Star plus and hey the guy from BHPH too. Thought they made a good pair. And forgot about it.
Then on a saturday, at home with a very bad cold, hubby and kids out, randomly switching channels found myself coming back to IPK where repeats were on and Arhi were arguing post Janmashtami.
So Arnav left her and was curious whether he comes back looking for her. Noted that Barun and Sanaya had awesome chemistry and Khushi was a strong character and Arnav Rich bad boy with a good heart.
Intrigued switched it on Monday and caught Sanaya's brilliant drunk act and saw Arnav had come too. When he drove away, I loved the BG music there.
Then searched for some videos of Arhi to see if it would be worth it and saw the ME Arhi Scene, Hide and Seek Cupboard and then the pool confrontation.
I loooooooved his expression when he sees her in his cupboard. Had zero idea about their history yet could make out that he was soooooo relieved and happy to see her and Her too. There is a moment there it looked like both were hungrily looking at each other as if to say where did you go, missed you so much.
Then the pool side, Aap ASR hongay aapkay ghar may. Yeh mera hi ghar hai...
*THUD* Sealed it for me. Caught up with all their scenes and finally started watching regularly from the dupatta falls on her head episode.
Checked and realized most of the creative team where from my previous fav show, LNMDJ..So knew it would be good and it is the best.
*phew that is it from my side*
*THUD* Can I say I was Impressed majorly.
So
Dia & Swetha,
DeleteHappy Saturday morning!! Nice to meet you. I have to run out for errands now but will come back and introduce myself to this group.
Nice idea, virtual friends, lve the idea.
Sahana (screen name because my real name is very unique, and have met a handful of people with that name:-))
Shwetha,
DeleteNice to 'meet' you :))) ... I must add, I started noticing your replies on IF because so often they mirrored my thoughts COMPLETELY ... and you often said it much better! Thanks for joining up here and for making this place so much fun ... and thanks for this awesome idea!
Hi Dia, Shwetha, Sahana,
ReplyDeleteHappy Sat evening (am in the gmt time zone)
Am so glad, Dia that u decided to do this intro post..
I am Rekha, just shy of 40, have a daughter,a pre-teen. Dia, like urs,my hubby is tolerant, tho surprised at my sudden addiction to a Hindi serial. Currently on a sabbatical (hence the time to roam the net so frequently)btw, he catches it on and off and never fails to ask me, aaj bitwa/babua ka kya hua...
I have never watched Hindi serials wth any regularity..tho i used to surf off and on. Used to watch SGP. The slot after that serial caught my attention and the fact that it had Sanaya in it, Loved Sanaya in a minuscule role in Radha Ki Betiyaan and tho i did not watch MJHT, (campus romance, really not to my liking), i used to catch Sanaya in some parts and was happy that she had a lead role. I like actors who don't need dialogues to convey their thoughts. Her eyes speak volumes!!
So, when IPKKND promo was shown, decided to catch it, for a little while. Had not seen Barun before that except in a couple of ads so did not know what to expect and in the initial phase, I was not too happy coz I felt that its difficult to match Sanaya's histrionics but am so glad that Barun is doing so well now and without a doubt, for me, they are the best jodi ever.
I started watching a week after the beginning but somehow, i started to pick up interest in the show around GH epi thereabouts;then there was no looking back. If memory serves me right, I happened to goggle on something related to khushi/Sanaya and i was directed to ramblings post.
I used to read it everyday but never knew how to respond. Recently, i stumbled upn the comments part and decided to comment. Also the comments re-assured me that this place is very diff frm the India Forum, which i read up randomly but never post (I find it too noisy/juvenile for my liking) Realised that this place is more concerned about the build up of characters..and the story..so happy to join in for discussion here
As i wrote earlier, so many unspoken thots of the characters have been expressed in your post beautifully. I used to wish there was a way i could tell u that maybe u shld make this post in to a book (akin to a making of movie experience). seriously!! I have no hesitation in saying that ur blog made me appreciate the serial better.....
Sanaya,Barun have done a fab job and I love the intensity of this romance. Its different( I am no expert not having watched any love stry on TV to compare but just the fact that the interest has not fizzled after the initial episodes, for me is gud benchmark)
After the noise in the IF, i find this place calm, insightful, funny ( the humour i dig),mean no offence to anyone in the IF, its just that its not my kind of thing...I am sure 16-20 years are the same everywhere and maybe we may have been like that at their age too, if we had seen IPKKND then, one never knows
Glad to know u guys here....
Regards
Hi Rekha,
DeleteI'm like you in the sense that I never warmed to MJHT straight off ... I liked DMG because I enjoyed a hospital-based show - my doctor friends and I used to laugh about the complete NON-realism of the hospital background, but we enjoyed the light-heartedness of the show and the romance. MJHT was too juvenile for me at the start, and the acting was far worse than DMG - Mohit was bad at the start, Sanaya was uncomfortable, besides I never liked weepy heroines so I got impatient with Gunjan, and I didn't really notice Nupur - Mayank, they bored me from the start. So I switched off MJHT ... I used to catch the last five minutes of it before DMG started and the Valentines Day episodes got me hooked ... to Sanaya. Youtubed the old episodes, saw one in which she breaks her friendship with Samrat, and I was just bowled over by her acting ... she was fantastic. Gone was the weepy girl, in her place was a calm intelligent girl with amazing strength of character, yet quiet and dignified - my favorite type of heroine. Caught up on the SG scenes and followed what was a fairly mediocre show meant for high school and college students, only because of Sanaya and the SG story, which was far more mature than a college romance.
Sanaya expresses so beautifully with her eyes that I love penning down thoughts for her characters ... it comes so easily because she emotes so well.
I haven't watched too many Hindi shows either ... none on SP, because living in many countries in the Far East where SP was not always available. The last one I really enjoyed was on Zee - a love story about a doctor and a man ten years younger than her ... Astitva ... again the heroine was quiet, dignified and graceful, and the hero, though the character was a slimeball ;) was an excellent actor. I think Barun has yet to match the standard of Varun Badola in Astitva or his previous show, Koshish, but Sanaya is any day as good as Niki Aneja was in Astitva - even better, because she has portrayed so many shades to Khushi - the young and bumbling, the comedy scenes, the confrontations - the GH one is still my favourite - and the emotional scenes ...
Good to have you here ...
Hi, I'm Opti(short for Optimist) and as you can see it is not my real name. Chose it to maintain my anonymity in IF where I joined nearly six years back to read updates of a show I was watching then (Kasam Se)which by the way was my first hindi soap. Although I am not much of an optimist in real life, I chose this name to keep up my spirits about the show which was going downhill at the time. When it became unbearable, I quit the show in about four months but not IF.
ReplyDeleteAfter watching a few non-consequential shows, I got hooked to Kayamath. My addiction for the lead pair (Michi) was so huge that I started writing fanfics and making VMS on them. Well, like all K-serials, it became trashy but I watched it till the end because they did not bring in extra-marital affairs or one-night stands (strict no-no for me even if it is fictional) into it.
Although I caught an odd episode or two of DMG and MJHT, I was not really hooked to any Starone shows till I came across Geet in June 2010. I simply loved the show which was superb till December 2011 and good till March 2011 but things started deteriorating when they decided to make the villian a saint without proper redemption. I stuck to the show till the end, though, mainly because of my love of Maaneet which overshadowed my earlier love for Michi. Gurmeet and Drashti breathed life into two of the mist beautiful characters telly world has seen. I converted nearly all my Michi fics into Maaneet fics and also made a few VMs on them.
I got hooked to this show (which by the way is the only show I have been watching since the very beginning) because of the PH. I found the leads mediocre in the beginning but soon had to change my opinion. It is fabulous to see how much intensity the two have brought into their roles that despite the illogical plot one still empathises with the characters. Arshi have still not been able to dislodge Maaneet from my heart although they do share a special place in it.
Came across this blog in IF when Diya mentioned it in her TWTW. Love the analysis here. Was first a silent reader but have been posting of late.
I am in my early 40s, a working mother of a teenager and an IF addict.
Opti,
DeleteAm so glad to see you here ... I always enjoyed your symbolism posts and analytical thinking on IF. Hope we'll see more of them here.
The friend who got me started on making my own blog is a die-hard Maaneet fan ... more Maan than Maaneet ;) - we met on DMG and have remained friends ever since ... although she never managed to get me hooked to Geet, but because she loved the show, I did watch a few episodes for her ... and she started watching IPK for me - and for Sanaya.
I haven't watched any of the other shows you mentioned ... did watch a few episodes of Kasam Se, but never got hooked really to anything - it was more of a time pass thing till DMG happened. But like you, IPK is the first show I have watched zealously from the start, and will watch till it ends ... hopefully the PH will learn from the mistakes it made in their earlier show and avoid those here - chiefly making Shyam repent!
Welcome here ... good to see you here :)
Thanks Dia.
DeleteYep, Maan is more endearing of the two. Although initially I simply loved Geet for her positivity and her never-say-die spirit(much like Khushi here), she became annoying later on in the show with the change of CVs. Had the original team remained, the show could have become a master piece.
I too hope the PH has learnt from their mistakes in Geet and do not make Shyam a saint.
Opti
Here's something I read recently which seems apt for Arnav right now.
ReplyDelete"Never hurt anyone more than what they deserve because they may love you more than what you deserve."
Opti
Hayyee Opti,
DeleteVery apt - question is how do we know at any point in time what the other person deserves or not - be it love or hate....
Precisely. Since we do not know whether that person deserves love or hate, we need to be careful before passing our judgment and meting out the punishment we think they deserve.
DeleteThis guy had to eat humble pie time and again when he presumes the worst of her and realises he is wrong. Yet he does not hesitate to keep repeating the same mistake again. That reminds me of another quote:
Watch your thoughts for they become words;
Watch your words for they become actions;
What your actions for they become habits;
Watch your habits for they become character;
Watch your character for it becomes your destiny.
Life does not give always second chances.
Opti,
DeleteLove those quotes, both of them ...
The first is really tailor made for Arnav.
The second ... he needs to learn from that ... life does not always give second chances and the spoken word, the sped arrow and the lost opportunity can never be recalled.
Hi all,
ReplyDeleteBasics first:
My name is Mona (though it’s my pet name), I am an Indian, 36 years old, a single mother of a 10 year old girl and live with my parents in the IST time zone.
I usually don’t watch any Indian serial - can’t stand the OTT women and spineless men who seem to have no say in anyone’s life (so not true in our culture for sure). The only one I kind of liked and watched was SGP (but only after Suhana got married) – loved the episode where she tries to be a good bahu by watching the serials on TV!!
Anyways – once or twice caught parts of an episode of IPK and felt it was like a common M&B story, the heroine always falling off/fainting in a standing position and the hero always around to catch her. But then I caught an episode around end Nov, before the engagement ceremonies and I was intrigued, the main characters were actual people – strong, well developed characters and the girl had a mind!!! Could not help myself and googled the episode on my laptop, found a plethora of episodes, saw a few and was hooked – and the rest as they say is History!
Found Startv.in and watched the entire story from the beginning to the present. (Don’t think I slept that weekend :D)
Got so hooked that I started looking out for news on what was going to happen next – came across IF and SBS segments. And finally one day the search phrase showed a post on a blog called R&R, came on to it and LOVED IT! It was not the IF like blog at all –
First of all, it was English, complete and correct! – (can’t stand the ‘cu@4’ kind of language – I am sure it takes the writer all of a few second to type it but it takes me all of three to four re-reading to decipher it! Am too old to understand this genre of writing)
Secondly, the blog was funny – with my kind of humor and wit. Enjoyed Dia’s analysis of what was happening and her way of writing – loved the way you guys responded – it really felt like a virtual coffee shop and friends talking – discussing and responding!
Checked Dia’s profile and realized that even though I did not know her from Adam, I could know her so well – after all a Gorgette Heyer /PG Woodhouse/HP fan, loved old Hindi music, loved all the movies I loved – understood how I could appreciate her sense of humor so much! Had I found a virtual counterpart?? On my third day I gathered the nerve to respond to a post – felt like I was intruding on friends but must say Dia and the rest of you were simply amazing – Dia responded immediately, was warm and made me feel at home – it made me feel I was normal, (had started doubting that – how coudl a 36 yr old be giggling/crying/worrying about virtual characters!) so now I am hooked for good both to IPK and the blog.
You know, I can watch the serial at 8:00pm but I don’t – I prefer to watch it on my laptop (despite having to watch it in four parts!) at around 10 - when I am in my bedroom with no one around – it’s like this is my secret world, like the characters are real in this space and not disturbed by anyone – I know I am nuts!!!
Mona,
DeleteYou echo my thoughts ... especially about heroines having a mind! How could you not - you're a Georgette Heyer fan :)))
I enjoy SGP too ... have been following it off and on fairly regularly, and started enjoying it much more once I told myself that it was NOT a love story, but a light-hearted family comedy, on the lines of Dekh Bhai Dekh :D I enjoy the crazy Kashyap family and I love Mahesh Thakur, Suhana's dad, and that everpresent twinkle in his eye!
Ditto your thoughts on English ... I think reading PG Wodehouse, GH, Agatha Christie and other British authors when growing up has a lot to do with it ... I see the books my kids read as coursework from American authors and I cringe at the English there! Another reason I enjoyed the Harry Potter series - the language and that subtle British humor she brought in ...
So you found this on Google ... wow!
I am so glad to see so many moms here ... I always felt this was a bit of a guilty pleasure - blogging on a tv show ... am so glad to find so many more people like me! Good to have you here!
Gargi here...I used my actual name unlike most you here with your pen names/pet nemas/aliases ...hmph...:-p. I’m in my 20’s...unmarried and working ...
ReplyDeleteActually I’m one of those people who was totally prejudiced and absolutely stayed away from star plus, sony etc. I pretty much download whatever I watch...wait watched-past tense since IPK entered all other shows exited. Last November my Nani (who religiously watches SP from7:30-bed time) came to stay with us and I was in one of my moods and just generally teasing her and then painted her toenails hot red...After that and a few other incidents, she started calling me Sanka devi and I had no idea what she and mumma were laughing about. So they made me watch an episode. It was when Arnav just discovered Khushi was engaged and I heard his spiel on how her fiancé was not rich and not good enough. I said no thanks.
But then I saw the episode where Khushi and Arnav are setting up Payal and Akash. I was hooked by the scene where Arnav says ‘Ab kya boloon??’ when Khushi and he are playacting. I’ve watched it religiously since then except one week of vacationing in December. After which I was searching for that weeks’ episodes and discovered that you tube has all the episodes. Watched the, ooh la la, ME and then went back and watched every episode from June 6th till the ones I’d missed. I started the first week of 2012 glued to my laptop and you tube HD videos. I started searching for more IPK stuff online, found the fb page but I’m not a fb person, found IF but didn’t like it very much and then with some variations of the words IPKKND, Sanaya, Barun, I stumbled upon R&R...serendipitous:-p...Loved your analysis and could identify with the way you wrote. The blog was funny, analytical and articulate. After I read all your posts from September onwards I commented and after that; as they say its history.
I love the posts and look forward to it as much as IPK, I also love that everyone on the blog has such a sensible thought process, that everyone has a great sense of humour (very important for any relationship-even virtual coffee shop-not real named- friends that you’ve all become.) and that everyone uses complete words. (4 is the mathematical connotation for a number, it is not a part of English grammar synonymous with for! – My non virtual super text savvy friends think I was born in the wrong generation...but I like words, I love reading; HP, LOTR, wodehouse and Austen are the tip of the ice berg. I really feel that with very few exceptions -no movie is better than the book it’s adapted from. Other than IPKKND I’m addicted to Disney movies, After Eight, my Iphone-though mostly to check R&R, India Today and Clothes!!-Shwetha knows ;-) I want to see ASR in Armani before the show runs its course.)
Thank you for providing such a fun, zany and relatable platform Dia...hope IPK runs for a long time, continues to have a great storyline and acting, and keeps us obsessing the way we’ve been.
Thank you Gargi for restoring my faith in miracles! someone in her 20's and likes 'words' - sooo agree with you - 4 is NOT a language word, its a number! :D
Deletei also understand how you got hooked on, very similar to my story! i was always the CSI/Criminal Minds/Castle fan - IPKKND seriously disturbed my patterns - despite being super busy these days at work, I cant stay away from taking quick breaks to check up the latest on R&R :D
Echo Mona ... a 20+ girl write full English words, and not symbols ... a miracle! I have two teenagers, so I know exactly how much of a miracle this is! And someone who loves reading ... even more so! Though I can't say too much on that - my daughter is a voracious reader as well, reads all the classics, and her favorite books are worn to shreds and bandaged many times over!
DeleteEcho you on the humour ... for me, that's such an important part of life, and I absolutely love the sense of humor on this blog in everybody's comments - Shwetha, Gargi, HAA ... I find myself chuckling aloud at my laptop so often, my son thinks I'm crazy! And the new shiddats every day, DM and her workings ... you guys have really made this blog such a fun place to be!
So your nani and mom watch this show too? I got my mom hooked on it when she visited me last October, and she has now got my aunt hooked to it ... we've stopped watching most other shows too. I still watch SGP and Maryada ... Maryada is a sensible serious show with strong female leads, and the acting is excellent there as well. But am nowhere nearly as hooked to it as to IPK!
Gargi, you are officially designated the baby of the blog!
Hahaha...absolutely accept any all epithets as long as I can continue my incessant comments on your wonderful blog and keep adding to the shiddat list;-)
DeleteAgree Agree Mona and Gargi
ReplyDeleteGargi, yes R&R has been a serendipity...and U as Mona says someone in 20s and likes words....hehehe...wodehouse and Austen...too!!I keep trying to get my child to read the old classics for a new flavour(she is a potterhead & Christopher Paolini fan!!) and I was trilled to bits when she agreed to read atleast Jules Verne for my sake (she loved it..around the world in 80 days!!) and has kept her promise to read some every now and then..
Actually the 20s gen is very smart...its just that we need to use the gen dialogue somewhere right??
Hehe I can imagine my most of my friends think its the antiquity that impresses people who read Dickens and Austen but my copy of withering heights is sellotaped down the binding twice over. Then again I also love the Percy Jackson and Potter series...lol...As for the 20's gen, I'm just going to feel happy and a little smug too if thats ok:-)
DeleteHi Dia, Rekha, Gargi, Sahana...and all the rest of this group...
ReplyDeleteI have been reading your blog since I got addicted to watching IPKKND and was searching for ALL news about this absolutely wonderful serial! And when I just read this introductory post on all the members, I decided to join and start posting....First of all, let me thank Dia for the great job with this blog....and for creating a safe place for us to come and connect and share in the passion of IPKKND!! As I read the blog, it was great to devour all the posts about the episodes...especially loved the shiddats! I felt that I could have an outlet for this madness that has come over me since I started watching!
I live in the US and never had the time to watch shows regularly, but recently quit my job. I have two college-going sons and my husband and I started watching some shows, now that we have more time on our hands. Even though I live in the US, my soul is in India and now I feel like it lives somewhere between Delhi and Lucknow ! My sons shake their head at me, when I started talking about what Khushi would do in a certain situation....I know...I have this ARSHI fever bad!!
Love this blog, love that it is in English and that I can relate to all of you and your points of view here. I can so totally related to the references on Georgette Heyer and Austen.
Thank you for this blog and hope that I can contribute also to this conversation.
Hi Harini, and welcome! I tell you ... this is really a madness - haven't been this addicted to a show for a while!
DeleteAre you a GH fan too? I love her beautiful English and her humor - I still have many of her books, and love reading them again and again.
Good to have you here :)
Hi Dia, Swetha, Gargi. Mona , Harini , Opti and HAA (I'm sure I missed a few of you),
ReplyDeleteSo nice to see such a lively audience passionate about reading, enjoying art in some form or the other.
Let me introduce myself first:
My screen name is Sahana , mother of two, one a teenager and the other 10 years old. I am not much of a writer, but very much appreciate and envy people who can express themselves through writing.
I have watched only a few indian tv serials before. One of them being 'Love Story' which was aired about 3-4 years ago. I also liked Virudh but for some reason it did not continue for long. I had kind of given up on hindi serials mainly because of the excessive drama and jewelry. They never looked real to me. The women in the serials were always portrayed as becharis which I never liked. I subscribed to Star Plus only about a year ago mainly to watch the music shows like ‘Music ka Muqabla’ etc.
My love story with IPK started back in November , precisely on the mandir bangement day. I really liked what I saw but of course did not have the context or background and hence did not appreciate the episode as such. I really like both the leads and made up my mind to follow this serial. I spent one entire weekend catching up on the prior episodes starting from the fashion show. The effect on me was very similar to what you all have described. I recalled not having slept the whole night. On googling about IPK, I stumbled upon R&R and that’s it, I was completely hooked. Diya’s style of writing really appealed to me and I made it a point to come to her blog every night after watching the episode. It is only very recently I made my presence felt on this blog.
I agree with all you girls and ladies that Diya’s warm and welcoming attitude made it easier for me to speak up. Dia – Your analysis is always very objective rather than being judgemental on any character.
Over the last few weeks, this blog has become one big family where we all come hang out and join in the big adda. I so enjoy reading each of yours views on this blog. Some of them rae outright funny. A couple days back I couldn’t stop saying ‘shiddat’ all day. I still don’t know what it actually means , think it is some sort of a wish list?
In fact I joined IF much after I found Dia’s blog. The forum is lively but can get utter crazy sometimes. I limit myself to only a few writers and conveniently ignore the others. The general age group of the forum seems to be 20-30 , so I don’t quite fit in there. This is more my kind of adda. Because of my crazy work schedule , I have to try hard to keep up but try to steal a glance through my iphone whenever I have a few minutes.
Oh!! Forgot to mention that I am from the US , PST timezone.
Hoping to see a good week of IPK. Really tired of the negativity going around.
Have a good week everyone!!
Sahana
Hi Sahana,
Deletei think i got addicted from the very same episode :D
Shiddat is actually an urdu word meaning 'acute or severe' - it is usually in terms of severity/passion of feeling/though/faith. hope this helps
Sahana,
DeleteI think I also watched Virudh for a while and liked it .. it was an interesting story. Another two shows on my 'must watch' list were Astitva and Saans, both had very strong female leads, and were very subtle and understated, although Astitva had the typical saas-bahu track, but it wasn't OTT dramatic ... but I didn't watch them till the end ... we moved and didn't have Indian tv ...
I am slowly weaning off IF, now that this blog is getting to be so much more fun ... so thanks to you all for joining in here! *hugs*
Hope I not too late for this intro post.
ReplyDeleteI am Aarthi, but call me Aaru, I am in my early 30's, a mom of one, quit my job to be a full time Mom, but at present doing my Masters in Library and Information Science and freelancing.
I met Dia during our MJHT days, that's been almost 2years now. I was never hooked to any soaps, I really started watching MJHT after GR8 awards, seeing Sanaya receving the award for gunjan, the sharp contrast of the girl on the screen and on the stage did it for me. But still wasnt into IF. Infact it was Dia and Mads posts which created an interest in watching the show. Being the lazy one to write, the maturity in their viewpoints which were exactly same as mine was boon. Most of the time i would just "You said it ", "Agree totaly". As they say rest is history. I even after the end of MJHT we have been in touch with other thru this blog. MJHT days have been some of my best days in my life.
Although i wowed not to get hooked to IPK... and really willed my self not to watch this show even after me and dia wanted a mature love story for Sanaya. Whenever we used to chat during the downhill of MJHT, IPK kind of storyline is what we wanted.
And again Dia its been you who has got me to it. And reading some of the comments here i am sure we are going to have some good old MJHT days.
I am might not be regular in writing and repling here, but be sure that will be reading each and every comments and replies here.
Aaru.
Hey Aaru,
DeleteAm so glad to see you posting here ... hehe, don't blame me for getting you hooked, we always wanted this kind of story for San, didn't we? But I must say, even being her fan and having complete faith in her abilities, I am shocked and delighted and proud to see how she has handled this show ... she has been a revelation! Especially after the calm, quiet dignified Gunjan who never raised her voice ... Khushi is a total 180 deg turnaround!
Good to see you here, and don't go all quiet on me again! :)
I am Sama in my 20's, unmarried and working as a teacher. I may not be regular in posting (not a computer person) but will regularly follow your write ups (mostly through mob)
ReplyDeleteI have started watching daily soaps(english/hindi anything thats on) after my masters was done .... kill time real big :D
I started watching IPKKND at first because of its striking resemblance of lead characters with my forever love Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth. I was on and off until winter holidays. It started growing on me ..... the new years eve, noticed they yet haven't lost the main traits of lead characters. So watched few earlier episodes to find out about Lavanya, how they wrapped that up. I was surprised at how beautifully they showed change in her and such a dignified wrap up.
This I really wish (with SHIDDAT) that they keep things dramatic but not ugly (reason why watching hindi serials are uncomfortable). As for Shyams case ... make that a healing track for Anjali, she definitely needs it.
As for getting mad over IPKKND, it was that one dialogue - "lagi shart" and then he kisses her, his eyes, his voice, that smug expression, her eyes, her posture - that did it for me .... went craaaaaaazy over the pair and their acting, chemistry whatever they have onscreen.
1 whole week after that episode I did nothing but youtube all the episodes from June 6 (4GB@mobile, thats A LOOOOT).... my colleagues, friends and family (specially mom) got frustrated in me.
Found your block through google, in my desperation to find out about ArHi marriage. 'Diwali revisited' was my first and BEAUTIFUL was all there to say. On second thought, if diwali revisited is so beautiful what was diwali itself like. Had to find out and BOY was I mesmerized. I fell in love with your blog as much as IPKKND.
SHWETHA, GARGI and HAA ..... your comments are fabulous, cracks me up and I love to laugh ! :D :D :D
I think the Lavanya wrap up was one of the best done tracks of IPK, very maturely and subtly handled - this is the hallmark of Nissar, he does make his characters more believable, especially for the urban, thinking audience. Not the shouting screaming fishwives you see on may other shows.
DeleteHayeee ... that "lagi shart" was damn sexy ...
and even more was that "hmmm?" in the mirror and bindi scene ...
I guess with SP's new found love for IPKKND< things are going to be more drama, but so far I can't really complain much ...
Welcome, Sama ... good to have you here :) So you and Gargi are the youngest members here :)
Hi All,
ReplyDeleteI am Nidhi in my early 30's mother of one kid and working full time.I used to visit IF rarely until the ME of IPK in August. I just stumbled upon Dia's Twtw and got hooked onto it and started watching Ipk and found your blog through google when i was looking for IPk topics.I never used to post but was reading all the comments by shwetha,Dia HAA gargi.Nice to meet you girls all here. Will try to be regular in posting when time permits.
Special Mention to Dia that your posts on IF got me hooked onto IPK.
Nidhi
Nidhi, thanks ... wow, so TWTW hooked you to IPK and not the other way around? This is a first *blushing profusely, pleased like hell!*
DeleteGood to see you here!
Go girls damm good episode. As we thought ODG did lash on him ending it with hate u's. Oh ODG lashed not just him DM too. Anji and Manodrama suspect something wrong. the kangan goes via ODB who does not give it to our girl. Mamiji see the blanket and pillow on the pool side. Akash the netural party atlast voices is view by telling payal that if khushi has taken this step there has to be a reason. Good job boy. and a funny precap of Khushi's blouse tearing, she wears hubby dears shirt, but that too gets torn when she tries to seleves up...
ReplyDeleteDia cant wait for ur update.
Hey Gals......
ReplyDeleteI am Geetanjali, early 30's, single girl....working with a digital effects studio in mumbai......i was never into daily soaps, watching it cause of my parents, but mostly laughing over all the inane drama going on, with futile attempts to find some logic.....i love reading....an avid HP fan....loved the books more then the movies....
IPK just happened one fine day....one evening, when my mom was surfing through the channels, watched a clip of Sanaya trying to meet LA for the first time, and i was hooked on to IPK
Caught up with all the previous episodes on youtube and fell in love with the serial and the leads......I had seen Sanaya before in a couple of episodes of MJHT but never followed the serial....also remembered Barun from BHPH, thought he looked good, but didn't know how well they are as an actor....
I liked Sanaya more then Barun initially, Barun seemed a little stiff...maybe he took some time to hold his bearing.....but later it was like a duel between them, always competing on who would outshine the other...well, i am not complaining :)
stumbled upon Dia's blog when i was searching more info on IPK...and i got addicted to RandR as well..so much that morning after logging into mu machine, i used to open her blog page and keep refreshing every half an hour to check if she has updated...
initially i thought Dia must be from the cv's team :D the way she writes and explains everything, it's awesome........so many i read her blog then i understand the crux of the scene, go back and watch it again.....
Another one who got hooked to the show and spent sleepless nights catching up on youtube?!:) No wonder IPK on yt has so many hits!:)
ReplyDeleteI agree Barun was stiff initially - I think getting into the skin of a character who has to be silent for the most part and emote mainly through expressions and eyes is always tough - the ones with dialogues always have it much easier. I remember the same thing happened with Sanaya as Gunjan - I felt she was stiff and awkward in the first couple of weeks, and I actually gave up on her and MJHT - till she hooked me back.
So this time round I was willing to give Barun some leeway, as I'd seen how beautifully Sanaya moulded Gunjan later ... and he did the same - took time to get into the skin of ASR and now you can't imagine anybody else playing ASR - he's doing such a great job.
Me from cv's team - I wish :))) then maybe more of our shiddats would come true ... but I have to say, it's mainly because Sanaya emotes so beautifully with her eyes, and now Barun also, that I can read their emotions and express them ... and I love the show for the understated subtle way they portray many things ... such a contrast from other shows on Indian telly. There is far more left unsaid to interpret than on the usual shows with their black and white characters ... it's like reading a book which leaves so much to the imagination ... I agree with you totally on the HP books being better than the movies - in fact, most books are better than their movies, I feel :)))
Good to see you here, Geetu!
Hi dia and others who are regular here.... I've been a silent reader of this blog ever since I got hooked to this show... I've never watched any other Hindi soaps off late.. Used to watch a lot of them in my teens , mostly the ones on DD... And then few more on SP like kutumb..... Haven't watched anything else after that on TV. Happened to see an episode of IPK while my son was in hospital last June..... Got back home and stared watching it regularly on YouTube. My hsbsnd hates me watching tv serials :) so I watch them in his absence.....;) ... I simply love your blog.... I eagerly await your blog as much as I wait for the serial... Btw, am in my early 30s with two toddlers.... Quit my job recently for the kids.... Am addicted to this show like never before... And I find myself behaving like teenagers...... Checking for news every now and then..... Am going crazy.... Don't know whats the matter with me.....
ReplyDeleteHi anonymous, welcome and naam toh batao, jhoota hi sahi:)
DeleteHey Anonymous, welcome here ... and echo Shwetha ... naam bhi bata do, alias is fine :)))
Deletehello all.. This is Madhura.. :) well, I am diya's friend from the MJHT forum and as she already mentioned, since it was becoming more and more impossible for us to discuss our thoughts about the show esp towards the of the first season on the forum, we shifted here.. :) I haven't been in touch with TV at all since MJHT ended because i got busy with my thesis.. (on that thought, I am currently towards the end of my masters in Germany..and will pursue my PhD from november..) but then, the other day, while browsing through various SBS segments of sanaya, I came across the dance "Teri meri prem kahani hai mushkil.." and it did it for me!! Not only was Sanaya looking gorgeous in a green saree, but also the main line "do lafzon mein yeh bayaan na ho paaye.." and then I realised it was indeed sooo true for the two characters, esp because of the punch line that said "Pyar door jane na de..nafrat paas aane na de.." and I was intrigued to watch the show...I had watched barely the first 2 episodes of the show where khushi stops payal's wedding because of the dowry thing but then stopped watching completely.. after the dance though, I randomly started watching the episodes from august.. :P The first episode I watched was the one where Anjali comes and asks khushi to come home and teach Lavanya the Indian traditions..I missed whatever happened before, but could guess from the episodes that followed.. :P after all, its a hindi show and they never manage to make us remind each and every thing through precaps.. now, I have already reached october episodes (in 3 days! :D) ... totally in love with khushi and arnav starting to grow on me too... u are absolutely right diya, he is not a typical hero at all..but that's what makes their love story soo intriguing.. I made my boy-friend watch it.. :P LMAO.. and he totally was somehow relate to how arnav was irritated when khushi was around.. :P and when I told him that they are planning a love story b/w these two he is like "really?? a love story b/w these two?? totally very complicated.." LOL.. anyway, I really like their chemistry..and their characters have been well shaped so far.. everything has made sense to me..why they react the way the react etc.. and their scenes are totally drool-worthy.. and this is not even when their love story has started.. I don't know what will happen then.. *dreamy look* :)
ReplyDeleteanyway, enough of my bakbak.. just glad to be back discussing with u diya.. *hugs* :)
Madsieeee *hugs* Good to see you here ... now you'd better join in the bak bak ... we've become a very active lot suddenly! And the best part of this show is that we get SOOO much of Sanaya ... how we used to grumble about the lack of screen space for her in MJHT ... she's here in IPKKND ALL the time, the central character, around whom the story revolves! I know it's supposed to be about Arnav and his sister ... but it's mainly about how their lives change when Khushi enters ... and we see how Khushi is really the central character here ... each and every character has a special relationship with Khushi, she is the glue which binds them all together ... and so we get loads and loads of Sanaya!!! My main reason for loving the show ... although I have to admit, I was surprised at how well she took to this role, after the complete opposite she did as Gunjan.
DeleteGood to see you here ... join in the fun!
I knoww!! the role is completely opposite to Gunjan.. infact I guess quite different from Sanaya herself too except for the bubbly and uncaring attitude.. Sanaya really IS lucky (or smart ;)) as far as getting or taking up roles is concerned..its not often that u get to experiment and challenge urself soo much ... :) sooo damn happy for her!! and even more happy that she is excelling at it..
ReplyDeleteGunjan was sooo calm, composed, poised, sobre.. Khushi is the complete opposite.. at times she is even embarassing to herself..but she hardly cares about it.. :) the part I love THE most.. and ofcourse the fiercly independent attitude..
And Arnav also.. he grew up late on me...but he has, finally! And echo u diya, its sooo difficult to potray a character such as him.. and I admit, if he didn't look half as handsome as he does I wouldn't have gotten hooked onto him much..because acting is not THAT great..but like u said, he has slowly gotten into the skin of the character.. I am watching the october epis now..so I am talking about them... but then, his character demands that sombre and cold attitude towards each and every life form except his di and his plants and now - Khushi.. I don't know if they have revealed his past or not... but I hope they don't make it out to be something lame... *fingers crossed*
And Arnav-Khushi..OMG soooo much to say about them!! :)) I will say all that in my next post.. actually planning to make one on IF..once I am free and done with most of the episodes.. and then will copy-paste the post here..so that ppl here can discuss it too.. :) :)
I am very late in posting here..but here goes
ReplyDeleteI am Anita( real name!!), mid 20’s, just finished my Masters in Journalism and live in South India… work for a magazine…
IPK happened after a lot of convincing…I am not a huge fan of Indian television..too much drama and very little substance..the last show I watched for a while for Kahin to Hoga(Rajeev Khandelwal was quite good!!).. love english shows..give me Friends, castle, CSI, Criminal Minds, etc and I can watch…but not hindi shows!! Or better yet books!! Can read anything and everything so tv shows weren’t really as interesting!!
My friend was addicted to the show and that’s how I heard of its existence…everyday I used to spend hours listening to her go on about how its just like a mills and boon, a serious no-nonsense guy and a happy girl..and I used to go yea yea whatever ( she was addicted to Saathiya at that time as well, she surely couldn’t be trusted!! :D). this went on for a while before I was threatened to watch it, if not for the story for the acting..i reluctantly agreed and the first episode I watched was the hospital scene..and I went oh wait..these guys look familiar..then..looks good, lets see what happens and what struck me was this guy ( me likes brooding men! :P) who couldn’t get over the fact that he couldn’t give her the comfort she was desperately seeking from him…and my curiosity got the better of me… had to make my friend tell me the whole story..about each character… I sat at my comp..and put google to good use..watched and read almost everything about the show.. downloaded all the episodes I missed from YT..spent days watching each one (I now have almost all the episodes!!) and that’s how I stumbled on this blog…read Dia’s edit and thought oh my!! There are people like me who like to rip apart every part of a show, analyze acting, emotions and I was hooked!! Then I found out that my sister was watching it all this time..and I didn’t even know…dumb me :D
Now I enjoy hooking others both to the blog and the show..a number of my aunts, cousins and friends watch it and the older generation cannot believe at all that the two actors are not together in real life( they have me to thank for bursting their bubble!) as an aunt said “ no maa that cannot be true..they ARE in love..how they do all those emotional, touching scenes otherwise” . that’s how good these guys are!! I also take international phone calls from friends who begin the call with “ did you see that??? How could he do that to her??!!”
Thanks Dia for the blog..feels really good to know that there are people, strangers who become family all thanks to one amazing show and a great platform to express themselves!!!
*ROFL* I LOVED your line that your friend was hooked to Saathiya so she couldn't be trusted ... cracked me up!!! My uncle watches Saathiya and the whole family groans at him, how can you??!!!
DeleteGood to see you here, Anita, and to meet more and more crazy people ... there's comfort in numbers :) My hubby swears I'm the only one so crazy, then I tell him about the growing number of readers here, and he can't believe there are others as mad as I am!!!
I am Luna .I have just finished my computer engineering .I have been working as web designer/developer for last year.I am from Kathmandu,Nepal.I have this huge crush on Sanaya since LRL days .I just love her screen presence also love the fact that she has improved tremendously as an actress compare to initial days .I started watching IPK cause Sanaya was in it .Now I just love Sanaya/Barun pair .I really hope they are there till the end .Now days I am just feed up with all the new rumour that pops up daily about the show .. sometimes i wish i wasn't emotionally attached to this show .
ReplyDeleteHey Luna, good to meet you :) I agree completely that Sanaya has improved a lot since her initial days - I didn't see LRL, but I saw MJHT just for Sanaya and what she made out of Gunjan, Sanaya gave her so much of depth and beauty. So I was absolutely thrilled to see her back as the lead heroine in her own show, rather than sharing the limelight with other heroines. And I fell in love with the character of ASR and the way Barun portrayed him - he took a few weeks to settle into the role, but since then, there has been no going back.
DeleteJust hope the rumours stop now ... the story has started progressing, and want it to carry on this way now.
Hi all! Cheng here, I hope it's not too late to introduce myself. I'm in my early 30's, a mom of two boys. Cheng is really my nickname. I accidentally found ipkknd through the net, i got intrigued by its contrasting story. Then from there I began searching for english subtitles. That's when I discovered this blog and fell instantly into it. I love how dia describes every episode by heart, it's like reading my favorite romance novel.. And also I love all the interactions and comments kinda like reliving my university days. Glad to be part your virtual cafe!
ReplyDeleteHi cheng, glad to see you here :) Do you watch IPK online or on TV? The Dubai/HK feed has English subtitles, so it's very easy to follow - in fact, I find the subtitles very useful sometimes when I can't catch some words :)
DeleteWelcome to the R&R cafe!
hi..! i did give my introduction in short before in a comment but then came across this post today..
ReplyDeleteI'm Tanvee, real name, and i'm 18 yrs old (well, would be 18 this month)...just finished giving my hsc exam and a butt-load of other entrance exams..
i love reading books and as i mentioned earlier, i have an amateur self-proclaimed flair for writing :D
i, too can relate to not being a fan of the crazy sms lingo...i'm not totally against using some short-forms like 'u' or 'pls' etc but i feel that "juzz chillin at mah place wid mah budzz rawkss!" is just plain pretentious. and does not in ANY way make the person writing that seem cool
as for serials, i was intrigued by them right since i was a kid... used to stick around when my mum and aunts would gather around to watch the mother of all soaps in the history of saas-bahu shows... 'kyunki...'!
even though it was pure drama-after-drama, i liked serials...the plot twists, character arcs and development...
my mom later transitioned to shows like 'kasauti' a bunch of other marathi serials but i never seemed to like them for a long time..because they always stretched it too long...what with the plastic surgeries, and bringing back people from the dead, the nonstop rona-dhona, the shows always seemed to become stale after a while...
DMG and MJHT were a pleasant change, but they too had their kinks...even then i'd watch them because they werent that boring..however they did become after some time
as i started watching english shows like 'how i met your mother', 'friends', 'scrubs' 'dexter' and MANY more, i distanced myself from hindi serials...
until once while flipping channels somewhere in november i happened to watch a khushi-arnav scene...when he has her ring, tells her to apologize..and is heartbroken to realize that she is engaged...liked their chemistry...after watching a few more scenes also liked the story and the concept...
then became an ardent fan in march but couldnt follow much due to exams...
as soon as my exams ended i started scouring google and youtube for IPKKND...
and thats how i came across this blog..! during a random google search of 'ipkknd blog' i stumbled upon this blog and one in tublr too, but the tumblr ones were more interested in posting endless arnav-khushi pics..atleast the one which i saw
when i read this blog i was thrilled to see such extensive views and discussions...silent-read it for a few weeks, and then built up the courage to finally start commenting.
thats all, sorry if i babbled on too much :D
oh, and i live in mumbai, by the way :)
Delete-Tanvee-
Hi hope I'm not to late to introduce myself.
DeleteMy name is Lin, I am in my early 50's(I may be the oldest). I was married, but now single, and I have two grown up children and two grandchildren. I am English and I have been living here in Gibraltar for the last 20years.
I never watched any Indian TV shows until about 18 months ago when I came across a show about another young couple, who struggled with their love and relationship. Found that with the help of the subtitles I quite enjoyed it. Unfortunately they then butchered the end and I was really disappointed.
Again just happened to be changing channels and came across Arnav and Khushi. I thought the acting was brilliant and the eye and facial expressions move me to tears somedays. I am now a big fan and try not to miss the episodes, and watch the reruns I case I miss something the first time round.
I happened to be on google when I came across your blog about three months ago, and was so happy that it was written in English. You have no idea how good it was to find a place where I could learn more about the happenings going on the screen and get a better insight from some very articulate and clever people. I have gone back and read all the other postings and look forward to reading more.
Sometimes I think I have gone a little crazy, but then I am consoled by the like minded people that participate here.
thank you for letting me come and join a very special group of people.
Lin
Welcome, Tanvee, I think you can take over the mantle of the Baby of the Blog - am sure Gargi and Sama will be happy to cede it to you! And welcome again ... hope to see more of your writing skills when you have the time!
DeleteGlad to see people your age appreciate proper English - I have given up on my own kids, who by the way are around your age :)))
Lin,
Welcome ... I am so happy to see that this IPKKND madness is not age-specific!!! And that I'm not crazy at my age to be so addicted, there are people even older than me in the same boat.
I have to add though, that my mother, who's definitely older than you, is as much an addict of the show as we all are ... we actually discuss the characters as though they are real people! And we realised that the real appeal of the show is that it's just what it set out to be - a simple love story ... and a love story has universal appeal. Which is why, I guess it transcends the boundaries of culture, nationality and age :)
Great to welcome you to the group!
Hello,
ReplyDeleteAs a new member to this blog..these are my detail.
I am Pallavi..(Pen name) .. A 29 year old girl..married and living in United States.
I started watching IPKKND on 5th May..and was so hooked to the Arnav-Khhusi chemistry..loved it.
I am now watching all the past episodes as ASR is missing in action currently.
Keep up the good work guys..I love it..
Hi Pallavi, welcome to the blog!
DeleteI'm especially happy to see you here because you said that you started watching around 5th May and got hooked then - that would be around the Arnav-Khushi terrace confrontation, right?
So that means that the change in storyline will hopefully draw people back to watching ... I'm a little protective about the future of this show, as I love it so much! Good to see you here, do keep posting :)
hi girls...hope not very late for posting here...
ReplyDeleteI m Ayesha(pen name), 27year old married girl with an year old baby..live in Bengaluru.
started watching IPKKND when Shyam's true face was exposed to Khushi...but was addicted to Arshi love story after Teri Meri....
then i wanted to know the whole Arshi story from the begining...
starting searching internet for that and came across this blog...and R&R is as much an addiction as IPK..
i spent lots of sleepless nights to read all the posts made by Dia...also watched YT videos for the scenes i found interesting in Dia's posts....(yeah that was a long list)
it is not possible for me to watch the epi at 8(sometimes i miss even the repeat telecast)...so this blog is really helpful for my Arhi addiction...most of the times i read Dia's update first(that gives me a good night's sleep) and then watch the epi...
and girls...u all r damn good at analysis of the scenes...and putting them to words...hats off!!!!
Dia...good thing(other than the dicussion of IPK) about this blog is anyone is able to read ur posts and the comments...one can be a silent reader...or may comment according to one's own wish/convenience without any compulsion like u need to sign in to read more etc.etc...
and last...Thanks Dia for this space...and thanks to all the girls...its so warm and friendly atmosphere over here...and thanks for letting me be a part of this blog...
Hi Ayesha, never too late, I am loving all the silent readers who are making their presence felt now!!!
DeleteYou have a one year old baby?! You must have your hands full ... no wonder you don't manage to catch the episodes regularly! But thanks for joining in ... am glad you find this place helpful for your ArHi addiction ... sometimes I'm not sure whether this is the right cure or it worsens the addiction even more! :)))
And yep, I love the analyses that all the girls bring in ... it makes this place so much fun! Thanks for being here!
I hope it isn't too late for introductions. Hi Dia and all :). I'm Krish(short for Krishnaveni). I will turn 21 next month around this time and am a final year engineering student. I'm an Indian whose mother tongue is Tamil( I detest calling myself a Tamilian). I'm flamboyant in tamil and english but quite timid in hindi. An avid reader of books in all genres and a die hard HP fan. I saw a few people mention about reading percy jakson, did u try kane chronicles? And I would definitely suggest The Shiva Trilogy- Immortals of Meluha and its sequel Secrets of Nagas to all you readers. It will definitely make into the list of classics one day. Its damn good.
ReplyDeleteUntil recently I have never been charmed by a daily serial. My mom watchs a few tamil ones and they are pure torture. The one thing I hate about telly serials is making the woman lead a super human and the male lead a dumb scapegoat, while its the other way around in movies. Ipkknd for the first time ever has real time believable characters, plots and storyline. Agreed the the logic does take a chutti every now and then, but the leads are both strong independent individuals. I am an anti-romantic. I hate Mills and Boons kinda stories. But like romance when it is not mushy... Like Darcy and Elizabeth. It was the tagline of Ipkknd "nafrat paas aane na de, Mohabbat door jaane na de", that caught my attention. And lo behold, it has kept me completely hooked! Ipkknd made me fall in love with LOVE! My entire family watches the episode, that includes my dad! The rabba ve tune got permanently lodged into our brains, even my dad sometimes goes rabba ve for no apparent reason. Ipkknd has all the right ingredients for a masterpiece telly serial. Strong leads potrayed by two exceptional actors, strong supporting cast and a strong storyline. If the show goes downhill from here, they have got to blame only themselves. But with the new promo I see a scope of loads of improvement. Apart from the tagline, it was Barun Sobti as the lead that made want to watch the show ( I loved the Ford figo ads :)). And ASR is my first crush *blush*.
As for R&R it brings back the memory of my blog. I had one too, but its lost now. I dunno how it got deleted. I HATE wordpress. I don't exactly remember how I stumbled upon R&R, guess it was devi maiyya's kripa(btw am an agnostic). It was while searching for the last ME, that I had missed due to other obligations, that I came across this blog. I couldn't believe it that there might exist a blog that analysed daily soaps. But hats off to Dia for the splendid way u write. And a pat on the back to all the regulars who dissect every act on screen to bits with such professionalism. The best part about this blog is that people echo my thoughts with perfetion. And the shiddats damn good. I guess its almost a month now, that I have been following ur blog. Dia u are a great host, and the whole setting here feels like one big family. I can't believe u guys have never met each other. I had never commented before, because I felt like intruding on a family gathering. It took me this long to read all the previous posts with comments and finally I happened to see the intro post. So here I am! Its so nice to have made a acquaintance with all of u!
Hi Krish,
DeleteWelcome to the blog! You're joining the list of baby members :) So far Tanvee takes the title of Blog Baby but you, Sama and Gargi are close together!
I was tickled to hear that your dad watches the serial too ... and enjoys the Rabba ve :)))
Glad that you enjoy the atmosphere here - we keep it light and easy ... we really have become one big family here, and even I find it difficult to believe we have never met - we all have bonded so well and have so much fun together! Good to see another member join in!
Hi! A long pending intro…
ReplyDeleteTons of apologies for being Late Kate as usual.
Personal:
I am Su (pet name)- in my mid 30s. On a (forced) part- time job(that’s what I call it since I am more jobless than ever before), which I am enjoying right now because it gives me time to take care of our 7 year old son. Looking forward to a ‘full- time’ job in 1 or 2 years. Basically, I am enjoying this vacation from the busy schedule I had earlier, yet, itching to get back to my old job. Right now, job satisfaction takes a backseat on account of family being the priority, plus I am just stuck here.
How I started watching IPKKND: Most of my afternoons were spent channel surfing and I was hooked on to only BALH then. Noticed IPK, but didn’t really like it then since I felt Khushi was too childish and ASR too predictable. It was one of those K working in RM scenes. It was my SIL who came to stay with us for a week who made me sit down and watch IPK. It was during the pre- wedding preparations, around the time NK appeared. Started watching almost regularly then. Missed only 1 or 2 epis here and there. One day I was recapping the epi to my SIL- it was the terrace scene that she had missed. I told her that Shyam hugged Khushi and she was disgusted, “how dare he?” I was amused to see her reaction to a daily soap. She went on to ask me, “what do you think will happen?” and I replied casually, “Oh! I think he will marry her to save his sister’s marriage!” And she said, “Really?” To which I thought to myself, “yeah, you don’t need Einstein’s brains to predict that!” I had not seen the promos and imagine my shock when they showed the promo. My prediction had come true instantly. And I had thought he’d do it sometime later, it had not occurred to me that he’ll use her sister’s wedding as a black-mail.
Needless to say, I was impressed and now hooked on to the show more than ever before.
I think I probably differ from most of us in the fact that, more than the actors, what caught my attention first was the dialogues. I couldn’t help asking myself, “WHO writes dialogues like this?” I am not at all net savvy, (believe it or not, I used to get my hubby to check my emails!) but this Q made me reach out for the comp and the first thing I googled for was ‘Iss pyar ko kya naam doon script writer’. I reached desi tashan which had written episodes from the beginning and I started taking my baby steps towards R&R. Once I finished reading all the written epis, further search led on to the leads and their biography, interviews with the creative team and one day I stumbled on Dia’s blog. I found it wonderful for the edits and also the updates and links to other sites too since I am not an IF member.
I had a good reading habit until I joined college, after which, sadly I had not kept it up. But movies took over in a good way and I love good commercial movies and digestible art movies- all on a pastime basis. R&R made me appreciate WRITTEN LANGUAGE after a long time. I really have to thank all of you, who write so beautifully. I don’t have that gift and it totally suits my ‘type- hater’ personalty. I LOVE reading what all of you write here. I apprecite these beautiful thoughts of yours. Really, my perception of IPK has improved manifold thanks to all your symbolisms (Sandy, I have to mention you here- you are the one who showed me an entirely new way of seeing IPK and I can never thank you enough for that.) and deep analyses. And reintroduced me to old forgotten hindi songs. It is like- R&R takes me back to my childhood.
On IPK: It is not just a wonderful show for me. IT IS A PHENOMENON. This phenomenon makes me read up things I never would have otherwise. Buddhism, symbolism in movies, meaning of squares and nines, sufi poems- these are all wonderful things only IPK has brought me so far. To cite an example, even though I have watched Matrix many times, I was not aware of the symbolism. That is an insight IPK has given me and it will change the way I see a lot of things from now on.
Apart from that, I love the fact that none of these characters, not even Khushi is perfect- makes it all the more easy to be inspired by the heroine though I don’t agree with all her traits.
ReplyDeleteAnd IPK brought me to R&R and R&R inspired me to go out and actually buy some good books after a long time.
Words can never express what I feel abaout IPK and R&R. So I’ll just say,
“THANK YOU Dia, once again, for keeping this wonderful blog.”
Thank You, all of you beautiful ladies out here!
Su,
DeleteSorry for the late reply ... far too late to 'welcome' you as you're now one of the regulars here! :)))
I think one of the reasons I love this place is also my love for reading ... I was always a voracious reader, medical school and then marriage and two kids put paid to that hobby for many years.
Reading all the well written takes here is what makes this blog so interesting ... we stick to the show, yet branch out into so many different trails of thought, from mythology and the epics, real life anecdotes, symbolisms ... it adds a lot of depth and breadth to the discussions and like you said, broadens our own thinking.
Hi I am Ash -- in my 40s and the mother of a teenager. I am a software professional and a geek to boot.... never thought I would be addicted to a Hindi serial ever! I used to watch YRKKH for 3 years.. but my watching diet was always detective serials and medicine related serials and if they had anything to do with Math -- even better -- so you can guess Num3rs was my favorite , Dalziel and Pascoe , Midsomer murders , LA Law .... etc. etc.
ReplyDeleteI was hospitalized in June last year for an operation and caught the episode of IPK where Khushi sets off the fire alarms ... liked the goofy actress .. but did not take it up because 8 PM was early by me for a serial..........
Time passed-- Diwali came and I had time....... caught the pre-Diwali episodes... got hooked ... and then there was no looking back! Pulled a whole week of all nighters( I have not even done this when I was in college) and caught up with back episodes while keeping up with the daily ones........ then decided that I was hooked!
So from there on to the forum was a short journey. Found Diya on her what I liked ....and liked it ... found her again on the SG forum and decided I liked her analyses... found that she is balanced and our opinions matched:-)
I love Khushi and Sanaya -- not sure which one I love more ... fultoo girl crush!
Sama - another SG directed me here... lost the post from her and asked Diya again for the blog........
I have never ever obsessed on a daily serial like this... great to have other people with whom i can obsess!
Ash
Hey Ash, welcome!
DeleteJoin the gang of people who caught up with IPK by pulling all-nighters ... just scroll up and you'll find a whole list!!! :)))
And this place is a haven for Sanaya and Khushi lovers so you're doubly welcome here!!! :)))
I have to add that I like Sanaya more than Khushi, Khushi is a bit too scatty for me! Gunjan was more my type, she is what attracted me to Sanaya in the first place. That's why I love watching the new, slightly more mature and smarter Khushi on screen these days, with the flavour of the old crazy girl still thrown on top.
Good to see you here!
Thanks Dia for welcoming me here... Sanaya in AD and Khushi in SKD I guess are my likes ! BTW , I live in Mumbai!
DeleteHi everyone,
ReplyDeleteI am Biraj (real name). I am in my 40s, a doctor by profession and the mother of a grown up college going kid. I first started watching TV soaps when I took a career break in my son's last year of high school just before he was due to leave home for college.......watched a couple of EK soaps Kis desh mein hein mera dil was the first...which i accidentally stumbled upon...liked the lead actor....great chemistry and it was a love story....at least initially but later deteriorated into family drama(like all EK soaps do I am told). Next watched Tere Liye coz it had Harshad chopra in it (and I needed something to overcome my empty nest pangs)....and again it was a love story but that died a premature death due to Ekta's differences with SP. Didn't watch anything at all for a while after that since the usual regressive saas bahu kitchen politics type of fare that is served up on Indian TV is not my cup of tea at all. Also was back to full time work so TV watching took a back seat. Watched a few random initial episodes of IPK here and there.....and then decided to start watching it regularly coz the lead pair looked interesting but by that time Shyamu's torture of babuji was on full steam and that seemed to take up more screen space and time than the leads. That was quite unappetizing to watch....so watched erratically again. Started watching regularly from the payash wedding time, discovered the hangout too and got hooked...so much so....that I went back and watched the whole show from day one over a weekend binge just to be got caught up with the story....fell totally and irrevocably in love with ArHi and the rest is history....
