Some more trivial thoughts after watching the first completely Arhi-less episode ever of IPKKND.
1 - The main story is Arhi all right, but the cv's have not spent much thought in building up the parallel stories. And that would take a toll on the lead actors for sure. They definitely deserve their break - they have had the bulk of screen time day in, day out for the last six months. Even on Tuesday, either Barun or Sanaya were on screen for the bulk of the episode, although separately. A scarce few minutes were devoted to Shyam-Anjali and Shyam-Anjali-Akash.
2. Payash cannot carry an episode - Akash is decent, not great, and Payal is very weak. And comedy is the toughest genre - in the hands of Barun and Sanaya, it does great, because Sanaya's crazy Khushi is offset by Barun's stern ASR, and they both underplay the comedy enough to make it work. Especially Sanaya with Khushi's craziness - her comic timing is impeccable and Barun's stern ASR is the perfect counterfoil. Mami is another person who can carry comedy well - again her counterfoil is either Nani or La (sorry, was La). With the 3 guys alone on Tuesday, the comedy was already falling flat, NK took over the crazy role normally reserved for Khushi - but KD is not a good enough actor. And he wasn't even there on Wednesday anyway.
Akash and Payal just don't have the calibre to sustain comedy. Neither does Buaji. Buaji is good for drama, the typical saas-bahu types which is appreciated by the TRP masses.
3. Shyam - Anjali - although they are better actors than Payash, their story so far is wrapped around Arnav Khushi - the parallel Shyam-Anjali story has not been given enough background and depth. Until a couple of months ago, Shyam was determined to have his cake and eat it too, to keep Anjali as his money bank and marry Khushi for lust, and overnight he has decided he doesn't care about the money, he can get rid of Anjali? The transition has not been shown properly at all ... is part of the problem the fact that fans want his screen time kept to a minimum? That should not influence the storytelling to such an extent, surely. The entire Shyam Anjali screen space was devoted to Shyam trying to dance Anjali near the pool - surely they could have had a short conversation, dinner, some kind of indicator/thoughts. flashbacks from Shyam as to why exactly he was doing this? Very badly and amateurishly done.
4. On IF and FB, obviously the clamor for Arhi is louder, wonder how the aam junta would respond to having no Arhi at all. That influences the TRP's ... am guessing one episode won't make much of a dent.
5. Which brings me to my last point - according to Lalit Mohan's fb, they had already shot the next big moment. And we got the 'kambal' tagline. Many of us also expressed our apprehension about the kambal scene becoming another exercise in lame comedy. But after that - zilch. No big moment, no kambal.
Could this mean that the channel is interfering with already shot scenes and making the PH change them at the last minute? This might explain why the last few weeks have been so slipshod and haphazard. A PH and cv's don't suddenly go downhill for no reason, especially when they haven't reached even halfway through their original story. And we know that the PH did have a definite story in place when the show started.
Jut my thoughts - any comments?
Didn't bother to download episode or add links - not one I will be watching again!

ReplyDeleteHi Dia,
ReplyDeleteI guess we will never know how channel influences them. Payal and Akash are not capable to carrying even one single episode on their shoulder. And silly enough, such a wide open table and Bua couldn't see Akash? Where did rest of the actors disappear? It's impossible that the entire unit would have shut down for holidays. And shouldn't they be having list of episodes that are already shot?
I wanted to see the kamabal tag on TV. I was glued to TV from 7.30PM onwards and there came a new tag. And the new tag did not even relate to what was showed in the episode. I guess this entire week is gonna be like this. The only advantage is it will add 5 number to the number of episodes.
And TRP increased? Why? I guess it's because of the Kamabal tag line.
But one thing is clear, no Arhi, no magic and no IPKKND. I guess the fans frustration on Lalit's FB is very loud and clear.
Deepa: I think the time lag between the tagline and the actual is between counting the day it is aired is between 2-3 days.
ReplyDeleteSo the moment it aired I knew that atleast Sanaya was back shooting, so that thought made the entire epi bearable.
So we can expect the new episodes from monday only. And I think the TRP increased cos finally for the audience, both arnav and khushi are single and there is no extra angle in the form of La & shyam so the expectation that ppl are tuning is for the show to take the next step.
But to be honest was disappointed a bit about the tagline too..Khushi's idea with the family for what...Gift for arnav? I expected something on arnav-khushi...so let us see.
Dia: First check out this link http://mltan100.blogspot.com/2008/02/use-emoticon-on-blogger-blog.html for using emotions in blogspot posts, see if it helps.
I had a bit of spare time yesterday and it helps that I am a pretty fast reader, so I am now in the September episodes.. Can I say this again, you are such a Brilliant writer and while reading I could actually picuturize the whole episodes and actually went and saw couple of scenes that I missed.
If you get time can you update the one on the ME where ARHI meet after a gap of the week..U k now the anniversary one...That is my THE fav scene of them maybe cos that is the first scene I saw of them while deciding to check them out and fell in love*thud*.
His shock at seeing her in his cupboard when all week he has been fighting her memories, there is relief, joy that she is still around and she has not gone back and there is no anger at all that she is in his room...You know too stunned to react, I looved Barun there. And sanaya when she first removes her hand revealing one eye and the other and the look all around to realize where she is...Too good. So plz whenever you have time do update that post with just the arhi scenes.
Yesterday, i liked the epi and my daughter was actually rofling when she saw akash throw the stone and to be honest she made the epi eminently enjoyable. She is 8 and has an infectious laugh and she goes, Why is Akash so naughty?
I loved Akshay yesterday, finally the guy is getting to do something and he doesnt let you down, maybe he is not spectacular but unlike Deepali who kind of disappoints you more often, he is a relief to watch. And surprisingly even she did improve her acting a bit and Buaji tends to be good always.
Shyam and Anjali...well thank god for mamaji. In ASR style, ENOUGH ALREADY.
Just saw the pic...Where is the damn Red lehenga..Another red herring?(pun intended). Arnav better take her out for shopping or get married to her in that or else there is no excuse for that thing.
So the lame fevicol humor of akash getting stuck, arnav getting called in panick, him rushing in, khushi unaware of the situation and screaming in shock, bua coming along, khushi trying to hide arnav, payal trying to help akash, NK tapkofying in all this..
So let us wait and watch...WITH ZERO expectations.
Deepa,
ReplyDeleteOk, I saw the SBS/SBB and apparently Barun said somewhere that he was sleeping under the blanket ... so maybe the blanket scene will come eventually during their encounter today. But I still feel that the channel is interfering with the show, based on what the writer also said in an interview on Rangmunch.
Yep, Akash under table and Buaji didn't see him was silly ... most of the humour was very slapstick. Reminded me of Sanjay Dutt Govinda movies, actually :)
The tagline seems to change almost every day and has no connection with what is being shown in the episodes. Two days ago, it was the kambal one, then it was something about Khushi doing something with the family, and yesterday it was about Khushi persuading Arnav for the sangeet. And I agree with Shwetha, I think trp's increased because Arnav and Khushi are both single now, as well as the Shyam drama is gaining momentum - the average audience LIKES to see drama and intrigue, not only romance.
But yes, this is one show where if even one of the leads is absent, the show completely loses its charm for many of us. Again, I'm talking about the IF audience - the average housewife audience is probably more tolerant though! I felt that Wednesday was so arid without Arshi!!! But when I watched the episode again on repeat, it wasn't actually so bad, as I was prepared for Arshi not being there!
Shwetha,
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for the link - had no time yesterday, but am going to check it out and try to add the emoticons asap! *HUGS*
You're going through the entire blog??? *blush* So glad you're enjoying it ... I think I was travelling during those days, so missed my daily update ... will definitely try to update that one. I remember it was really cute - although the ME had exactly two and a half Arshi scenes, but they were all I watched again and again!
Your prediction seems like is gonna finally come somewhat true ;-) ... at least the Arshi part, as Payash are conveniently (and thankfully) missing! So I guess after her initial shock and bak bak, Khushi will try to hide Arnav from Bua, the blanket scene happens, apparently they do have some sane conversation also ... did I actually see a dance on SBS or was that offscreen? Wouldn't it be dreamy if they did dance? *sigh*
hey Dia........that dance was off-screen masti.........i guess its when Arnav gags her mouth.......they were just goofing around,
ReplyDeleteI also agree bt ur Arnav blanket scene prediction......as Barun mentioned that he was snoring away inside the blanket......i enjoyed last night's episode......but could feel the change in atmosphere the moment Sanaya came on screen...........the way she livens up the screen its awesome........Barun is also very good......but since his expressions and acting is so subtle.....it takes time to register, atleast for me :P sometimes i read ur post then go back and watch the scene and realize wat he was actually trying to convey through his eyes.....hhehehe
ReplyDeleteI hoped they would show the slow transition of Shyam from a grey character to evil, to make it more believable........just during diwali he was saying he needs Anjali as his bank balance, and now he is all set to kill her.........
i wished they show some background bt him, like he is too much obsessed with khushi that he doesnt mind not having his bank balance or that he has fooled anjali and transferred her property in his name (whatever property Arnav had in Anjali's name) something like that would make this plot more sensible, won't it ?
Payash are really boring.....and Deepali's acting really fall flat......
Geetu,
ReplyDeleteI interpret Barun's expressions as per my fancy ... sometimes his eyes are not so expressive and I have trouble understanding what he's trying to convey! Not the same with Sanaya ... I have no trouble interpreting her eyes ... maybe I've been watching her for longer :)
I have the same gripe with Shyam ... the sudden change ... from wanting Anjali as his moneybag to suddenly wanting to kill her? Doesn't make sense! At least show him making a will or something, to give him some reason for this change of face!
I like Akash in his scenes with Arnav ... I think Payal is the bigger problem in that pair. She needs to work a lot more ... playing a quiet, shy girl is NOT easy ... Sanaya is my all-time favourite for playing Gunjan the way she did exactly for that reason. I can see the contrast even with Krystal in that Behna show ... she falls flat, because she looks just too scared all time! Gunjan always got that awareness along with the timidity ... haven't seen any other actress manage that so beautifully yet!
Dance was offscreen? :( :( :( I want it onscreen ... can you imagine how dreamy it would be? 8->
