26/6 - Epi 130 ... Reverse Psychology

Thursday 26th June

Reverse psychology ... works every time!

Update :

We said this just yesterday ... maybe the cv's heard us! Stop pushing, Paro! She did.

So Rudra says, he doesn't want to remember his childhood. He can never reconcile with the mother who loved him, and then left him. He doesn't want any reminders of childhood, because they remind him of what he lost.

And finally, Paro, who has been trying to convince him that he does want to reconcile, with both his childhood and his mother, he's just fighting his feelings, decides to give in ... back off ... and give him what he wants.

Or rather, what he says he wants.

Wrap up the cupboard of childhood momentos. Not let Mala cook for Rudra ... because after all, Mala doesn't know what Rudra likes and doesn't like any more. Not make Mala feel at home ... because this isn't Mala's home any more ... she left it and ran away ... she can't just waltz right back in and expect things to be the same as before. She needn't bother to help anyone ... she should stay in her room and rest. She's a guest, not a member of the family. That's what Rudra says, that's what he wants. And being his wife, Paro doesn't want to go against him ... doesn't want to hurt him. Maybe she's been too pushy ... she's hurt Rudra. She's very sorry, she won't do it any more.

And of course Rudra realises that he doesn't really want it at all. Doesn't want his mother to be called a guest  in her own home ... doesn't want her to be insulted ... of course, it all right if he's the one doing the insulting, but how can anyone else insult his mom? Even Paro? Didn't Paro love her like a mother?

She did ... but he's right, Maasa isn't her mother ... she's Rudra's ... the mother who hurt him. Paro should stop trying to see her as her loving mother, and only see her as her saas, moreover a saas that her own son, Paro's husband, doesn't even love, a saas who hurt Paro's husband. So Paro should be on her husband's side ... and stay away from her saas. That's what she's doing. That's what he wanted, isn't it?

Is it?

Reverse psychology ... works every time. Especially on children. The little ones ... and the big ones.

Precap ... what on earth is this all about? Why this attack on Paro? :(((

  1. Didn't watch the epi yet. Read the updates though. Is it more like a trp type episode? So, Paro has not been attacked yet. Hmmmm....

    1. No ... precap was the same as yesterday. I think they're wrapping up the Mala track ... it didn't work. They just couldn't get the sympathy factor for Mala, and they destroyed Dilsher in the process. Don't know ... the basic story is good, but the writing and the screenplay has let it down ... and of course, the over-emphasis on the male lead, and the neglect of the female lead. The TRP audience is female ... you have to show the female's POV, which they never did. It was always about Rudra ... his pain, his anguish, his tears, his mother, his ex-lover, his childhood ... everything. Nothing about Paro, who is an orphan, who has lost both her parents, and doesn't even have the hope that she might see them again ... they just ignored her completely, except in relation to Rudra. It doesn't work.

I'm annoyed because of the TRPs too ... excuse the rant. Seems more and more likely that RR will wrap up for Bigg Boss.

Chalo, at least Sanaya will be back soon ... she won't be out of work too long. She already hinted at that in her TS interview.

  2. Oh 😔 I thought the show would continue till the end of 2014. I believe the channel also plays an important role in the trps. Rr is not a bad show. Anyways no point in ranting about it. I kind of like the concept of rudra paro than arnav khushi. True that sanaya barun were a hot Jodi, but sanaya is good with ashish as well. Concept wise, I like the current Jodi more than ipkknd. Looks more mature than mere physical tensions. Don't want to boil my blood thinking about what went wrong.

@dia: like you said, there is nothing much to show anymore. Just teju and Laila. Maithili, Moroni are minor setbacks. And when all is well, the entire haveli will forgive mohini. I just wanted to see ashish and sanaya together for some more time. My hopes are diminishing.

On a lighter note, hope we get to see a honeymoon track. To lessen my stress. Very very sorry about the rant ladies.

    1. Madhu, I agree about Ipkknd and RR ... RR has a better story, and I like the PaRud relationship better than the IPK one, which in retrospect seems more about the physical attraction. It could have been much more, but ... oh well.

I think they are winding up Mala and starting a new track, which will be more PaRud centered. Hope so!

  4. HI Dia
Another silent reader comes out of the woodwork!
First: love your takes! :) Your posts are always a pleasure to read! This blogspot is like a cool breeze compared to how stormy IF can sometimes get!
Second: Your TRP rant: Honestly i agree with you that the female lead was just not as layered as she could have been. Sanaya has done a tremendous job with this role, she is just amazing! The character of Rudra has been etched out so intricately as compared to Paro. I would have liked to see a much more rich texture to Paro's personality and some exploration of her personal feelings as well.
Having said this: I think the ratings issue is more because of Colors TV, none of their newer serials have really taken off, so I strongly feel if Rangrasiya was on another channel it would definitely be a much stronger contender! Even the time slot: it's a mature theme, maybe a later time would have suited better.
Faults aside, it is head and shoulders above the drivel on Tv nowadays, I've tried watching some of the top shows but just cant' get interested in them. (TRP waalon ka taste kuch questionable hai)
Nothing compares, Rangrasiya is a delight visually, the acting, the writing, the cast. If it goes off air, it is a true loss! It is a hugely under-rated show despite its drawbacks.
I hope things do turn around and the story that the creatives want to tell is told rather than new stunts every week to pull in a TRP audience :(
Thanks again for your wonderful posts, love reading them and all of the other writers too :)

    1. Hello everyone.

Feels good to be myself. ;) Had to post as Anonymous, as I was at work and was able to use only my Iphone. First things first. Dia.... What's up with you? For the first time, you seemed annoyed. I saw Sanaya's interview after reading your post. She mentioned that she would continue working, something of that sort. Was not very clear. Don't know what lies ahead. Hopefully, it is something worth watching.

@Kiran: Welcome to the club. Glad to see someone having my viewpoint regarding the channel. :D :D The concept is good despite the trial and error tracks of the show in the recent days. The ones that irritated me the most was the Laila track. But that was supposed to bring Paro and Rudra closer, so made sense. The laddoo poisoning track was a goof-up because of the ridiculous iron powder usage and the direct reference to the Neelkanth story. Mala track is ok, though. Like you have rightly pointed out, Rangrasiya is highly under-rated. I do hope we get to watch the show for another year or so. Fingers crossed.

    2. Nothing, Madhu ... just upset about the TRPs, I guess ... the writing seems to be on the wall for Rangrasiya. Apparently the writer mentioned that they have till September, then the channel will take a call. But my feeling is that unless they concentrate on ALL the characters, especially the female ones, the show will not recover. And they are still not doing that. Paro gets more screen space these days, but she comes across as too pushy ... and the writers have not managed to build up sympathy for Mala at all. Show a few sequences of Mala cuddling a young Paro, daydreaming about Rudra, sending out people furtively to trace him ... planning to tell Tejawat about Rudra just as soon as she can find him ... show her being ACTIVE about looking for Rudra ... because the biggest flaw in her character right now is not that she left an abusive marriage, but that she left her son with an alcoholic violent man ... and didn't do anything to find him even after she knew he left the rest of the family. As it is, for an Indian audience to accept that a married woman went off with her lover is a radical concept ... they have to soften the blow. Unfortunately the writers seem hell bent on garnering all the sympathy for Rudra, and none at all for anyone else.

Yesterday I was irritated with him ... he's behaving like a completely selfish spoiled child, who doesn't know what he wants. First he stares at the cupboard ... then when Paro tells him to let go, he says, no, I can't, I'll shatter again ... hey bhagwan, aadmi hai ya kaanch ka tukda? Yes, poor guy, his mom left him ... but he hasn't once stopped to think, she was abused by my father, how much she put up with for fifteen years, she stayed in an abusive marriage just for my sake. That's why I say he's acting like a kid ... it was all right to feel betrayed at age 12, but surely he's grown up now? More mature? Able to see both sides of the picture? If he's not, he's just wallowing in an ocean of self-pity!

Anyway, Sanaya's Nagpur interview worried me, she said that even if she doesn't get work after RR, she won't worry, there will be something else for her .. and in the TS iv, she said that even after RR, she will be working. And then was Akshay Dogra's tweet, that Sanaya is the only actor who never has to worry about a job. So am a little more relaxed now ... that even if RR winds up, she will be back.

Though I hope it completes a year at least ... and the TRPs pick up with the new entry.

    3. Kiran ... hi and welcome to the blog! :))) We love all the silent readers coming out ... this is a small place, but very friendly, and we like keeping it so! Not like the mayhem of IF! :)))

I also feel that Colors as a channel is doing badly, they are really struggling with their fiction shows. Let's see if the two new ones do anything for them ... I actually had doubts about RR because it is so starkly traditional and rural ... and on top, of that, the theme is actually quite radical ... a widow marrying her husband's killer ... a married woman running away with her lover ... an audience which laps up Sandhya beendni and Kokilaben will not appreciate either of those women. But it might have had a chance on another channel, esp Star Plus.
I'm surprised BI didn't do well though ... it's light fluffy romance, urban, nice sets ... so I guess it is more a channel problem.

RR is an under-rated show - agree with you on that too. I can't watch most of the stuff on TV these days ... which makes it even sadder that it hasn't done well. The TRP audience, all 9000 of them, don't seem to be in the mood for change or anything out of the ordinary. That's the other issue ... that TRPs are actually so NONrepresentative of the entire population.

    4. What a pity! The NONrepresentative TRPs get to dictate show content :(((. It's also sad that a show which started with such strong themes as it's very basis never did justice to its female leads (I include the role of Mala here as well) and ended up meandering and wallowing in Rudra's self-pity. In fact, none of the women really had their pov shown, except perhaps Maithili for a very brief period with her desire to adopt a child.
Back to the wishing well - here's hoping Sanaya lands a show, PH, costar(s) & channel that do her full justice!

  5. Hey where did my lengthy comment vanish? okay let me rewrite it all over again.

    WARNING: RANT ALERT!!

Just wanted to give my two cents in the ongoing discussion, nothing personal and no offence to the fans of these shows.
Looks like not only TRP's but I feel even how strong is the channel/network and the production house are also factors that help a serial to stay on or off onscreen, because I don't see any other reason for these and many other serials which I am about to mention below.
Let's begin with Colors - Uttaran, liked the concept when it began and was well acted too, but after that part of story was told till now especially OMG, did try watching a few minutes of it, its so bad they have the same recycled, cliched storyline, Tina Dutta's annoying nasal monotonous voice, the same old vamps n villains making weird, constipated faces to show that they are the baddies. But its still on.
Moving on to Star plus, there are few to name here, but let me go with the favorite ( not ) Saath nibhana saathiya- just this mere tittle is enough rest is self explanatory and yes my mom still watches it- WHY, WHY WHY O WHY???!!!

  6. Continuing,

Now we are onto Zee, Here its non other than Ekta's Pavitra Rishta ( there is nothing pavitra about anybody's rishta in that serial if you actually see it ), its got a time slot change but its still on!!
Plus has anybody see Ankita Lokande's interviews? ( any of them actually ), god! that girl has too much head weight, she is so rude, have seen her rolling her eyes at pretty decent questions, her vague answers, her attitude reminds me of Kareena Kapoor, can't stand such people. The point is people still like her as Archana/ Ankita, and lap up anything that they dish out!!!

I am totally surprised that RR may wrap up within this year if TRP'S wont pick!!!
@ quote The TRP audience, all 9000 of them, don't seem to be in the mood for change or anything out of the ordinary. That's the other issue ... that TRPs are actually so NON representative of the entire population- this is so apt Dia.

Just like Aki, All the best to Sanaya and hope to see more versatile roles for her on tv screen.

Apologies once again if my comments have hurt anybody.

    1. MB, speaking for myself, and I think most of us here, AGREE COMPLETELY!!!!

I cannot stand most of the top TRP shows. I even tried to watch Jodha Akbar because people praised it so much, and I couldn't sit through more than a couple of episodes.
As for the shows you have mentioned, DITTO!

I actually sat through five minutes of DABH last night ... forgot to change channels ... and I was very surprised. I thought it was a serious show about a woman attaining her dreams ... all I saw was comedy. Maybe that's what the Indian audience wants ... light moments, and no-brainer stuff. They don't want to see controversial topics where they have to actually think.Of course, this is referring again to all 9000 of those TRP audience members.

Having said that, new shows like Ek Haseena Thi, Veera and Yeh Hain Mohabbatein are doing well ... again YHM has made the unfaithful wife who left for a richer man, a complete vamp ... so people are happy with her. And she keeps fighting to keep her children, even though she uses them as pawns. So again, stereotypes are reinforced.

The biggest problem with RR as I see it ... they showed two very radical themes ... a woman running away from a bad marriage, and leaving her child behind ... and a widow marrying her husband's killer. And in both, they failed to show the woman's POV, and justify her adequately. From realising that Varun was evil, and that she had a narrow escape, Paro went directly to head over heels in love with Rudra ... if it had not been Sanaya, I would have given up at that point itself. Paro went downhill at that point, and never recovered for a long time.
Mala running away from a bad marriage is justifiable, but by showing her happy with Tejawat, and not making any attempts to find Rudra, or even pining for him ... that has been another huge lacuna in the story telling.
So the audience could not relate to either woman, why would they watch the show? In their attempt to glorify Rudra, the makers have let down almost each and every other main character. The only ones who have escaped are Maithili and to some extent Sunehri ... maybe because they didn't get enough screen space!

Anyway ... what's done is done ... here's hoping that Sanaya's next show is a bigger and better one, and her character is given the importance it deserves. And that she gets a good costar ... am happy with Ashish, but he's a bit over-rated in my opinion ... he does well in the natural scenes and especially in the romantic ones, but in the more emotional ones, he hams too much.
