22/5 - Epi 35 ... Sarabhais and Sanaya, fabulous! Manav - good :)

Wednesday 22nd May

Chhanchhan lost in thought ... nice background song ... as she wonders what to do ... as usual, Sanaya's eyes reflect so beautifully the inner turmoil of Chhanchhan ...

Sarabhai family all worked up and worried ... till Chhanchhan enters ... worry changing to relief, expressed as anger by a helpless father, who hates to see his daughter in this state ...

I loved Chhanchhan's dad today ... his anger, his rage, his helplessness at seeing his daughter in such a state ...
Loved the Sarabhai family again as they reassure Chhanchhan, especially her dad, that whatever she does, they are with her ...

Chhanchhan goes off to her room ... and behind her, her father's helplessness bursts out ...
Manav enters ... and CC's dad directs all his anger at him, the cause of his daughter's turmoil ... and Manav tells them he has left home and wants only to be with Chhanchhan, with her family's support.

Again LOVED CC's dad here ... the way he raged at Manav, Manav stood and listened quietly, while CC's mom and Daadi tried to calm down the enraged father and allow Manav to speak ... because they knew CC was waiting for Manav's decision ...

I really love the way Chhanchhan's entire family is so supportive and so open ... Manav, a stranger to warmth and openness and honesty of relationships in his own home, has no problem in talking to Chhanchhan's family ... a contrast he saw in his first visit to their house ... the ease with which they all share their troubles and emotions ... as opposed to the silent, hidden emotions and barely hidden undercurrents in his family, underlined always by the emotion of fear and tension.

Manav-Chhanchhan scene was nice ... the first ChanMan hug, the reassurance Chhanchhan needed so desperately ... Manav bares his heart to Chhanchhan, confesses he hid the fact that Umaben was his mother ... apparently he has recognised her nature a long time back (a real pity the actor could not convey any of that) ... and he's left home for Chhanchhan.

Chhanchhan realises all this was in the heat of the moment, gives him a lecture on the importance of mothers and tells him she won't marry him. Manav is not convinced ... finally she gives in and says she will marry him ... but only with his mother's blessing.
Which seems to be impossible as of now ... as Manav points out ... but CC is not budging ... wisely so ... marrying into that family with that MIL is gonna be trouble enough, doing it stealthily is akin to showing red rag to a bull. And she promises to win over Umaben ... enough to win consent to their marriage ... though Manav is still very doubtful.

A phone call from Manav's house ... Manav is not falling for his mom's tricks any more ... CC convinces him that it might not be a case of 'cry wolf' ... from the precap, it was not ... but Umaben is going to have a tough time convincing Manav that Chhanchhan is not Mother Teresa reincarnated ...

And from the new promo, Umaben gives consent ... but she has more tricks up her sleeve. One defeat in battle doesn't mean the war is lost.

Completely LOVED the Sarabhai family today, especially Chhanchhan's dad and Chhanchhan ... also liked the Manav-Sarabhai family scene ... loved the ChanMan scene ... (can't believe I'm saying this!) ... liked the dialogues all through.

And lots of Sanaya today ... from start to finish ... good episode!!!

  1. Loved the epi today but couldn't help wondering if CC has any negatives at all! Seems too much of goodness in one package. Was wondering it was me or was FK actually bearable in this epi? :)

    1. I found her very real ... again the friend I was talking about a few episodes again also went through the same problem, and she too refused to get married without the in-laws' consent. Any thinking girl would definitely make an attempt at least to persuade the in-laws ... only as a last-ditch resort would she consent to a runaway marriage.

FK was bearable ... agree. I guess we are getting used to him. I still feel he could emote MUCH better ... the character of Manav actually is not a bad character and has a lot of potential, they are losing half the charm and strength the character could have because of the weak actor. But at least I don't feel like closing my eyes when I see him now ;)

    2. Today was a "Sanayaful" episode and glad she got these emotional scenes where she excels. I am enjoying these Sarabhai family scenes more more then before, there is more depth and maturity in these scenes.

We are heading to the two month mark...Dia, I have couple of questions, as you have been following Sanaya's shows for over 4 years. How is this one faring? Did her previous shows also have this shaky start in the beginning? Also, do you think Sanaya should have waited a bit more to get a better show, not a love story, but something with a better plot. All the channels seem to be courting her, she is in demand. I am not trying to put this show down, but there is something missing as of now, which gives you the feeling this show is a winner.

On the flip side, Sanaya looks stunning in JDJ promo, wish she was participating or anchoring. Hope she will be a guest on KBC too,the one perk to be with SONY channel

    3. Uma,

Me too loved the Sanayalicious episode ... after the drought on Tuesday when she was hardly there, this one was a treat, starting with the song, then the Sarabhai family scenes, especially her dad ... and even the ChanMan scene was nice ... very good dialogues and Sanaya excelled in her expressions as always. Even the slightly preachy mom-son lecture, she managed to make it sound real and from the heart. And for a change, Farhan was okay, although I did avoid looking at his eyes, he really cannot emote from them. Again Manav's dialogues were very good ... Manav is a very decently etched character ... the normal impetuosity of a young guy in love, deeply hurt by his mother's deceit, all were well written, FK was adequate, no more ... a good actor could have lifted that scene to another level completely ... I WISH the makers would take heed of the protests!!!

    4. Uma, regarding San's previous shows ... Coincidentally, I did watch both from the first episode, MJHT purely by chance, as I was not a Sanaya fan at the time. And both had shaky starts.

MJHT came just before DMG, which I was following ardently at the time. I HATED Sanaya's character at first ... the weepy, timid, scared to speak a word kind of girl is NOT my type at all, even though I understand a shy girl ... and I didn't care for Sanayas acting at all :)))
Mohit was equally bad as Samrat, he was awful, in fact ;) ... he couldn't convey the attitude required to play a college stud ... besides it was very college-level and far too young for me, so I switched it off within a few episodes. Mayank Nupur I didn't notice, they bored me from the start.

So the reason for me to switch off MJHT was Gunjan/Sanaya :))) And she was the reason I came back to watching MJHT ... The Valentine's Day promo piqued my curiosity, I caught those episodes and I was totally hooked to this girl and her acting. And I marvelled - how had that weepy irritating girl changed into this very soft-spoken dignified girl, with so much grace and charm. Never looked back since then ... I loved the Samrat-Gunjan love story, and the way it was based on such a deep, solid friendship, and I fell in love with Sanaya's Gunjan.
Although Mohit was a very average actor, Samrat's character was really good, so he had that advantage. And Sanaya improved tremendously over the course of the show ... she had very few dialogues but her voice modulation and her eyes were just amazing. I never really cared for MJHT as a show, it was mediocre in many parts, and good in many others ... the SG story was very well sketched and portrayed, that's what I loved ... but I felt from then that Sanaya had that extra spark, that she could transform such a boring simple role into something so beautiful. MJHT was a college show, but the SG story was always more mature, which is probably why the Mayur love story with its bubbly brainless Nupur and strong silent Mayank appealed to the youngsters much more ... and the SG story appealed to the older, more mature lot. And when it ended, the only wish I had was ... let Sanaya now do a MATURE love story, with a GOOD COSTAR ... because Mohit did hamper her. MJHT became hugely popular among the youth, even though it never had great TRPs, none of the Star One shows really did ... but they had a following among the youth, and urban audiences.
So MJHT also had a very shaky start, it took at least six months to reach that popularity ... partly because it started as direct competition to DMG .. when DMG went down, MJHT went up. But it held its own even when Geet started and went on to become a rage.

    5. As for IPK ... I remember about three weeks into the show, I was convinced Sanaya had made a wrong choice ;) Barun was not that great at the start, Khushi was very silly and felt like a repeat of Nupur, whom I detested ... the same bubbly chirpy brainless character ... Mami and Bua were both VERY loud at the start, I detested them and felt they both over-acted. But IPK picked up faster than Chhanchhan has ... I think by the guesthouse scene, the actors had all settled into their roles and were doing well. Also IPK had a huge advantage, by some karmic fate, ALL the actors were good ... and the leads were brilliant.

Will Chanchan reach the heights of IPK ... in terms of popularity among the youth and internationally - definitely NOT. It's not that kind of show. It's more like a challenge to DABH - similar theme, but urban appeal instead of rural and small town. Again I watched DABH for almost a month at the start, and detested Bhabho - she was too loud ... Sandhya was expressionless and continues to be so, while Bhabho has improved, though I still find her very loud and regressive. But because the appeal of CC is more urban, and urban viewers don't really care for saas-bahu shows, I don't know whether it will click to that extent. If it is well-written, then it has a chance, not otherwise.
Also, I really feel that Farhan Khan is a HUGE mistake and that will take some time to get over. A better lead actor in the first few weeks, when the makers had to show the romance, would have made a huge difference to kickstart the show, especially to keep the Sanaya fans on board, who are all fans of her romantic shows. When the show was sold as a San show to garner her fanbase, then they should have made sure their male lead was of similar calibre, or at least somewhat close. They lost the plot there completely.
There is not much point changing him now, when the romance is almost over and the saas bahu clashes are ready to start. I feel Manav's moment in the limelight is almost done, and soon the focus will shift to San-Sup.
Sometimes I feel Sanaya took this show deliberately, to shake off the huge shadow of Khushi, IPK and SaRun. She had quite a bitter experience with the ending of MJHT and IPK both ... probably she wants to take a break from that mass adulation and frenzy that happens only with love stories. If CC carries on for a year or so, it will be good enough to shake off Khushi ... and she can come back with a new show. Like you said, all the channels seem to be courting her ... just hope CC does well enough to keep that reputation and demand intact. As it is, she is holding her own with an actress like Supriya Pathak, Nautanki films was already planning a show with her, so was 4 Lions. If she catches the eye of other good PHs like Rajan Shahi, Mittals, Ravi Ojha or the like, then she is in a great position.

And I think the fact that she is on the premier episode of JDJ already says a lot ... Ranbir Kapoor is there, and that is BIG ... Sushant is performing- he has one successful film behind him and he is the talk of BW currently, Jacqeline (she's a film actress, right?) ... so a good place to be in.

    6. Thanks Dia for taking time to write this. Keeping my fingers crossed (just saw the TRPs), this should be a wake up call for the channel and PH.
I too hope her reputation and demand remains intact and she gets offers from reputed production houses in future, and Sanaya too takes a very challenging role away from being just a nice girl.
Rumors about replacement are swirling again, wish they confirmed one way or the other! Quite fed up of these and in case the PH can't see the problem, they deserve what they are getting.

  2. Responding to all the comments on previous post...I wish...Sanaya is a guest anchor in some JDJ episodes too...I am sure she can take time out for it, but liked that Sanaya did this goodwill gesture for the PH and channel, could get her a spot next year!!! Fingers crossed!!

Waise you girls are right, Manish and Kapil will be a riot:)))

BTW, next week will be 6 months since IPK ended and Sanaya has made some sort of appearance in most major channels. Life OK, Star Plus, Zee, SONY and now Colors, talk about being in demand!

    1. Very true ... that has to be some sort of record :)))

And to add ... Sanaya started off with the first episode of Chhanchhan on the same day as her appearance on Masterchef ... so an appearance on two main GECs on the same day :))) The appearances on Star Plus, Life OK, Zee and Colors have all been invitational ones ... she is one popular lady!!! God bless her and keep her so much in demand for a long, long time ... we reap the benefits on our TV screens :)))

  3. This episode was a slight disappointment after the previous one, for me. Except for the song sequence which was beautifully picturised on Sanaya, the rest of the epi was OKish for me, including CC’s decision to make UB fall in love with her. I have a feeling this phase will not last long, and it will be a taming game soon enough. Looks like marriage will happen much later. At least we’ll get to see a lot of CC’s family that way.

The BG music was cacophonic, except for the first sequence- such a glaring contrast from the subtle music they played in the prev epi, I felt.

CC's dad: Good reaction to an unwelcome groom. But I felt Maanav looked too clingy, asking for her parent's help. That segment should have been done slow and lasted a little longer- there was something lacking in that family scene for me.

Chan- Man hug: FK has improved, but he will never be good enough for Sanaya.

    1. I liked this episode better than the last one!!! I found CC's dad's reaction really good, in fact the entire Sarabhai family was very realistic. Both in the scene with Chhanchhan and later in the scene with Manav.

The only addition I would have liked is if the dad had asked him - you've left your home and family, and want to marry my daughter, what work do you do, how will you support her, where will you keep her?

And I liked that Manav asked for her parents' support ... I was actually wondering ever since I saw the SBS hug, whether he meets CC via the ladder again. Was very glad to see that he came straight to her parents first, before even talking to Chhanchhan. It was a very good touch, to reassure her parents first that he meant to stand by their daughter, come what may. The Sarabhais know that Umaben hates CC, and their main concern was Manav's reaction. It was very important for him to make it clear to them what his intentions were, and ask for their support.

FK has improved ... agree :)
He will never be good enough for Sanaya ... also agree :)))
There was a lot he could have done in that scene, but his expressions are just too flat. In fact, he had a lot of scope the last few episodes ... he was barely adequate, no more.
Oh well, I have decided to ignore him from next week onwards, since it doesn't appear they are changing him any time soon :(

    2. Dia,

It was not the idea, but the execution that looked incomplete to me. Like you said, CC’s dad asking him about how he is going to provide, etc. This is one of the things I was looking forward to when the show started. It’ll be nice if they show Maanav growing up bit by bit, with CC’s help. You know, about a man who makes it from the scratch, with CC behind him. I had thought this’d be how Maanav gets to marry CC in the end- convince her dad that he is not a spoilt rich boy, get his mom to come around and agree to marriage because she cannot see her son wearing himself out, and then once CC is in their house- let the games begin.

  4. Just read about SBB seg where sanaya said she wants FK to be replaced. I don't know what to say but I feel she could have avoided it though she is right but she should not have said it on national television she can be termed as arrogant.
Though I am now 100% sure he has done something offscreen which has pissed her off because she gets along with everyone except him maybe his I, me myself and his constant boosting about family connections irritated her but still she should have not said that. I am just going to forget this seg lol

Moral of the story never trust written update they just twist words hmph

    2. Exactly, I see the CC forum is debating it, she said IFFFFFFFFFFFF, he is being replaced, they should bring in an awesome actor, She emphasized IF..And we don't know what was the question and her initial part of the answer has been edited out........You know what irritated me the most, why did they have to bring in BS into the whole CC replacement deal, grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr......

      Delete
    3. Exactly, she said IFFFFFF he is being replaced, then bring in a good actor, looks and body don't matter, the guy should be able to connect with the audience. And the question was edited out ... the first post made on IF reported the segment wrongly, that girl

Me too, I was most annoyed, WHY do these reporters keep bringing in BS, yaar .. he is not even under question, leave him out of the discussion! Let him do his movie .. isn't his shooting starting soon? And let Sanaya get on with her show ... she doesn't need BS only to make it a hit!

    4. This is gr8 news!

Yaaaayy! She said, IFFFFF.....Wow! That means a lot! She wouldn't say iffff, unless there was some news of a change.

Uncharacterestic of Sanaya- she is usually good when it comes to dodging Qs and withholding info- she should've just avoided that question. She gave too much away. *wink*

      Delete
    5. no su, I dont think she has a clue, I am sure the Q would have been there are rumors of FK getting replaced, what is your take on it? I am sure she would have answered - actors are last to know and IF he is being replaced, they should get an awesome actor and THAT does not mean she said FK was bad, even though he might have been, it is a general statement oh he is getting replaced, hope they bring in someone good:)

      Delete
    6. Precisely, Shwetha. I have no clue about about the rumours, and I could be wrong.

My inference is only based on how I think she'd respond to a Q usually.

Normally, if you are asked a Q on your co-actor getting replaced, you will not comment on it, unless you really have some inside info. She'd have brushed off the Q, if it was not valid. The very fact that she chose to answer that Q, conveys that it has been discussed. If it were not, it'd be a little unethical to answer a Q like that. Imagine everything is fine, there has been no real talk about FK getting replaced, and a reporter throws this Q at her- she'd have said, 'It is a very hypothetical Q, I don't feel the need to comment on this.'

On the other hand, she is a part of the discussions, FK has been given a notice or something, she wants to hide it,forgets to be politically correct for once- looks like she spilled the beans.

At least it is confirmed that the team is not happy with FK.

I hope it is true. They should just do that.

Dr. Ashutosh- I don't know if Mohnish Behl quit or he was chucked out, the new guy was so much better and had excellent chemistry with Nidhi.

In case of CC, if they replace this guy, more than half their troubles are over.(There are other deficiencies too, but they can spend more time on those, if they don't have to spoon feed their ML.)

And FK should stick to a profession he really feels for with his heart. The guy is just not an actor. He is here only for the glamour. He could be a good model.

      Delete
    7. I hate when people twist her words and write what they feel I soo want mod to close TM's thread for twisting sanaya's word she never said she wants FK to be replaced and sbb should me more responsible atleast show what you have asked and shwetha I agree stop these barun meets CC segments they are annoying either show barun or sanaya mixing up two segments is such a disaster.
Btw I have a feeling that FK is not as sweet as he portrays himself I mean everyone srman, sanaya, himanshu seems irritated with him kuch toh gadbad hai daya. I mean rati was also just a co-star but sanaya alsways liked her as an actress if not as a person lol but regarding FK she just can't stand this guy like me . And why is channel supporting him soo much no wonder this guy is overconfident and keeps saying these rumours don't affect me weirdo.
