16/5 - Epi 32 ... Reality Strikes

Thursday 16th May

Today have to say ... hats off, cv's!!! Reality strikes Manav .. in such a way that he cannot ignore it. Manav renounced title of Dikrahood and acquired a brain ... and looks like he will acquire a spine too!

First half of episode was spent in preparations for Meet and Greet ... on both sides. A clueless Chhanchhan gets ready for her orphanage trip, assisted by plotting friends Simple and Ashika.
A well clued-on Manav gets his mom ready for her trip to the orphanage. Uma Ben almost forgets her charade a few times, but recovers ... and leaves for the orphanage, leaving behind a dropped bottle of pills.

Sometimes dutiful over-zealous sons can be a hindrance ... Manav worriedly goes to replace the pills, and discovers they were only vitamin pills ... he goes to confront the doctor for malpractice, and gets the the entire truth in a way that cannot be ignored ... his mom was doing a drama all along.

And the precap promises more bombshells next week ... as Chhanchhan discovers that UB is Manav's mother ... and Manv discovers that UB did the drama to separate him ftom Chhanchhan.

Forgot to add - Sanaya in sunshine yellow sari ... a sight for sore eyes!

Edit ... News for the weekend

  1. I never noticed this guy blinks till I saw Sharman pointing out and yup the guy does blink a lot.

Now Sanz looked beautiful....And why was the phone convo between them suddenly dubbed in his so called dubbed voice, Oh whatever.

Had back to back phone calls so couldnt watch the episode properly, But Did you actually note what the Chemist did?

He opened the brand new bottle of vitamins that Manav had brought for his mom, Pops a tablet and says see anyone can do it.....Seriously, which chemist does that and why in the world would anyone buy that bottle then.............Who is the Director yaar, Come on...

The show is picking up, but yaar When I compare it to how beautifully Dastaan is being directed........comparing vis a vis a drama as to such a taut script and screenplay this show has a long way to go.

Hopefully BY the time IPL is over, All the teething problems would have been sorted out.

Did you notice, this show seems to have atleast a week's bank of episodes....the red saree tying scene was shown on sbs on 5th, they aired it yesterday and Sanz is walking normally...So atleast that way they are better organized, thank god!

    1. Did the chemist open the new bottle? Or did he take pills from the old one? Hehe ... chalo, aaj maaf kiya ... for giving Manav a brain, he is forgiven :)))

I noticed that too ... they seem to have a bank, especially Sanaya scenes ... she probably shoots for her scenes at jet speed, and then waits for FK to catch up ... judging from the reports that say he does endless re-takes :)
And their scenes have been separate after the court room drama for almost a week ... so she probably got hers done with pretty quickly.

Though don't know when the BS residence scenes were shot, SBS doesn't bother to cover the non-Sanaya scenes ka shoot :)))

BS here refers to Borisagar ... lagta hai BS Sanaya ka peecha nahin chodega! :)))

  2. Today's episode was good, more due to better screenplay, then any improvement in FK's acting. This is what we have been discussing, when the writing is better, it can gloss over mediocracy in other departments. The excitement of Manav not becoming a total "dhikra" blinded us to all other shortcomings today and of course the sudden twist in the story!

I have not seen Dastaan yet, but from all that I am reading here, it is a well scripted, directed and acted show. The advantage they had was that there was already a bound story because it is a remake of a hit Bengali show and then the pre-production was done for over 4 to 5 months. I remember Abhaas saying in November that he signed his next show, a good 4 months before it aired. So, the PH took time to select actors etc. Technical team seems good too. Whereas, in Chhanchhan, the PH seems to have done very little prep work, selecting the ML in half a day, without a proper look test, shows the haphazard way this whole thing was put together, and the result is for all to see. They have successfully driven away many viewers in this 6 weeks. Most won't have patience to wait for the creatives to get their act together... literally.

With the end of IPL, hope there is return of some viewers. Out of the 4 shows which started along with Chhanchhan, this one has the lowest TRPs. This itself shows how badly the team has performed so far. If it was not for Sanaya's popularity, they would be thinking of shutting shop right now!

Having one good episode per week, will not do. Now that the romance fiasco is behind us and we are heading towards family drama, hope the level of the show goes up, afterall this is their claim to fame.

I know the episode today was good, but I will not give creatives any brownie points until they make a habit of it. ( My shiddat: Sanaya picks something superbly challenging next time, with a much more competent team. )

To end on a cheerful note, Sanaya looked lovely in the yellow saree, and really seemed like a girl who is in love. Manthan and Ranjana (the middle DIL) are standing out along with Uma Ben in in the Borisagar family. Next week should be interesting, want to see more of Chhanchhan's turmoil after knowing about Manav's mom.

    1. True, Uma ... I said the same thing on the forum ... the script and direction was tight today, also the non-dikrafication of Manav of course ;) ... and that is why the episode worked ...
FK was decent in the phone convo ... I think his voice was dubbed later for that, so he obviously worked on that. He was also decent in the scene with the doctor ... plus the flashbacks were good.
He was merely adequate in the first scene with UB ... it didn't come across very clearly that he was setting her up knowingly, even though we knew he was. That's where he really needs to improve ... in the expressions. Uma Ben had one tiny scene where she realises she has to remember to be sick, in a fraction of a second she registered that look, and switched to being bechara ... Sanaya does those swift changes of ecpression equally brilliantly, in fact, that is her strength ... FK has a LONG way to go to get anywhere near there.

I will not blame the PH entirely, Uma ... apparently SONY channel pushed them to air the show well before they were planning to. When the first reports came that Sanaya had signed the show, it was supposed to start AFTER IPL ended. But once Sanaya was on board, Sony wound up Honge Judaa very quickly and pushed Optimystix to start this one before IPL. So they were ill-prepared ... I still think they could have handled the ML options far better, and twisted the story to show the dynamics in the Borisagar family and those in the Sarabhai family, and then showed the entry of the male lead ... that would have given them a few weeks extra to set up the foundation of the UB-CC clash, and some time to do look tests etc for the male lead. That was a big mistake ... the rest of their casting is okay, this went badly wrong, so badly wrong that it succeeded in chasing viewers away. Opening TRPs were double what they are now, and they have their work cut out to get them back after IPL ends.

So I also agree with you that the creatives have to make this a habit, and not a one off. For the first time I am waiting for Monday to come, which means Thursday's episode was good.

And the phone convo was good because half of it was Sanaya ... she looked gorgeous in yellow, and her expressions were spot on as always. Such a pleasure to watch her on screen, I normally don't even notice her costar!

  3. Added some links of offscreen segments ... really hope that after IPL, CC shifts time slots and becomes five days a week. Three day weekend is too long!

  4. Wonder if SONY is not garnering good TRPs for their fiction shows because of this lackadaisical attitude. They don't seem keen in either interacting with their viewers nor addressing their issues. Star Plus is much more aggressive in trying to reach out. You must have already read the TOI article where it stated, it is SONY which does not want to replace FK!

I see a lot of people commenting on IF that he has improved or that he is OK, to each their own, but for me he is NOT an actor. He has no screen presence, ( don't even want to talk about his dialogue delivery, body language etc.) so when he doing scenes, especially with Sanaya, they are lackluster. Even if it is a family drama there needs to be some chemistry between leads. Not looking forward to the hug one bit...
BTW, FK's interviews are not helping his case either!

The bar is so low now, that any decent actor would do, but I think they will stubbornly stick to FK. Seeing Ravi on the sets, I too wish...but...SBS scenes leaves no hope, plus they have already shot those publicity stills with FK. My feeling right now is this show is unlikely to be a hit, it will run for decent time and disappear, like so many others. You have to have an interesting story, or a good jodi or both, this show so far has neither. Everything is quite predictable. The only thing it will earn Sanaya is a stable income for a year or more.

I wish, I am proven wrong, because I really want this to be a success for Sanaya after the November fiasco, but right now the team and channel are disappointing. I just hope she does not lose too many fans and they will come back to support whatever she does next and I hope it is JDJ next season.

OK, SONY can do one thing as peace offering- have Chhanchhan on KBC with Amitabh Bachchan. That would be awesome :)

    Enjoy the rest of weekend.

    1. I read that TOI article ... and wanted to bang my head!!! Sony is being really stupid ... they HAVE options available and they are just being obdurate! How much pull does this Farhan Khan have?! He sounds even more smug in his recent interview ... the guy just puts me off every time he opens his mouth! I don't find him a good actor either ... not at all!

I do think he has improved since the first few episodes, but then, he was SO VERY bad in those episodes that there was really no way to go except get better, he couldn't possibly have gotten any worse!

I will say this much though ... I saw the recent SBS with the ChhanMan hug ... I thought I would cringe and absolutely hate it ... but it wasn't so bad - I acrually liked it. Agreed, that was more because of Sanaya than anything else ... She had exactly the right expressions ... plus fortunately, it wasn't a passionate hug, it was more a hug of reassurance ... Sanaya is right in saying she can manage the onscreen chemistry, that's her job ... and she does it very well. Honestly, that girl can create chemistry with a rock!

Which is kind of what she is doing right now ... if only the damn channel would get off its high horse and get in a decent actor ... it's not just the chemistry aspect, it's also the entire character of Manav that Farhan is bringing down with his acting. The last week, he had scenes only with Simple and Himanshu ... if the lead actor comes off blank and wooden in his scenes with main actors like SAnaya and Supriya, it's understandable ... if he comes across wooden and less impressive in scenes with side actors, he's trouble!

Anyway, hopefully either there is no smoke without fire and they ARE going to replace him ... or we just have to grin and bear it... At least the story has started moving ... one more week and IPL is over, they will then get to the wedding pretty quickly and then the real story will start ... and hopefully Manav will be sidelined. I agree, so far it looks unlikely to be a hit show ... just hope it picks up enough with Sanaya and Supriya to have a decent run, and Chhanchhan's character is well-written enough to get Sanaya some plaudits ... because apparently in our stupid TV industry, it's only the mahaan bahus who are recognised as good actresses ... not the really talented ones.

Uma, if Sanaya comes back with a love story, especially with a good channel and PH, and a good co-actor, am sure all her fans will be back, and even more ...

    1. Just a few days old, I think ... came out mid-May. Why are they offering the role of Manav to actors who have not auditioned ... or did Jay audition too?

God knows ... have given up ... one more week, let IPL get over, and if FK is not replaced by then, I will ignore him and Manav thereafter. CC is NOT a love story, after all. I enjoyed SGP hugely once I came to the same conclusion about that show and stopped expecting chemistry from SuShaan, I loved the other relationships much more ... same will happen here. Ishaan was the weakest actor in SGP, FK is the weakest actor here.
