1/12 - Epi 133 ... Sui-cideee ... Sholay works every time!

1st Dec Thurs

The Arnav Khushi relationship has been full of extreme highs and lows so far ... anger, passion, hate, name-calling, hurt, heartbreak, jealousy, tears and angst ... you name it, they've done it all. What they haven't done is laugh together. And to my mind, laughter and teasing are an essential ingredient for a successful relationship, the glue that binds the highs and lows and gives a couple the strength, the resilience and the feeling of togetherness to carry on and be ready to face the world.

When the last dumb charades track was on, I hoped the ice would be broken with laughter ... it wasn't. It was broken with deep emotion, which was very satisfying in itself and was beautifully done. But I still wanted the laughter to come back ... and for Arnav, it is an essential part of his redemption. He grew up too quickly, he lost his childhood, his teen years and his naughtiness, from all accounts ... recently we saw his teen years return in the form of his sulkiness and his tantrums, handled by a slowly maturing Khushi. And in the Payash track, we might see a return of the mischievous child he once was ... in ASR style, of course.

So it starts with Arnav Khushi as the world's most unlikely co-conspirators, engaged in Operation Sibling Love ... with their approaches to the impending union as far apart as North Pole and South Pole. Arnav approaches it as a business deal, Khushi rubbishes his idea, and has one of her own. Their meeting was totally in character, Khushi feeling her way cautiously in this new equation, till her natural exuberance takes over in the absence of Arnav's usual biting putdowns ... reminiscent of the Nainital trip. And it says much for how far they have come without even realising it, that Arnav agrees to try out her plan ... even though the cynic in him is sure it won't work.

Love the little subtleties Sanaya gets in ... the way Khushi says uncertainly ... "whatever happened earlier between us and ..." and then stops ... and then starts again "in this we're together." and Arnav is all cool, back to business-like mode, maybe he too wants to banish that little touch of awkwardness that just came in ... and he puts out his hand to shake ... a slight smile on his face ...

From antagonists to co-conspirators, with a heck of a lot of stops in between ... slowly Khushi has been inching up the heirarchy, to now being an equal partner ... and soon to be family ...

And now when Arnav tells her that her plan is stupid, there's no trace of social differences in his tone ... it's a challenge to an equal ... he thinks it will fail, but he's in it anyway ... And of course Khushi responds confidently ... it won't fail!

I always like the Arshi car rides ... each one tells a story in itself. So today Arnav drops Khushi back without any arguements, any Get Out's ... as  a matter of course, as though it's the most natural thing in the world to do. Khushi stops him a little distance away so that Jiji doesn't see them ... Arnav looks searchingly at the house and then turns to talk to her ...
What was he looking for? Her fiance? Or was he seeing the circumstances to which his unthinking actions had brought her and her family?
She gets out furtively ... fully in jasoos mode *rofl* and reminds him to fill in Akash with plan details ... Arnav wondering how the hell he's got involved with this cartoon! But ... "okay" ... he's in now.

And Operation Sui-cidee begins ...
Khushi warns Payal to speak gently ... Payal not amused. Akash dutifully calls ... Payal says 'no talks please' ...

Hilarious Akash Arnav part ...
Harassed Akash ... how many times do I call?
Arnav - holds up three fingers ... Khushi said four, but I think three is enough
Akash, worried ... if Khushi said four, four it should be ... he's not taking chances here.
Arnav gives spiel on business tactics, not appearing too eager to the client ...
Akash says - not client, Payalji ... not deal, my shaadi ... I will do what Khushi says ...
The look Arnav gives Akash ... *rofl* ... You too??? All the women revolve to her tune, now you too?
Akash will be wonderful bhabhi ka chamcha, I can see that!

As announced by Khushi ... phone number 2 ... Sanaya must have had a ball playing this part ... the mischief and laughter in her eyes is tooo cute!!!
Payal cuts yet again ... Arnav pats Akash on shoulder, don't worry, this is in the script ... Akash leaves for next stage of plan.

Call no. 3 ... oops, wrong number.
Call no. 4 ... Akash says he won't call again ...

He doesn't. Khushi waits for stage 2 ... Arnav shows up in a temper ... Khushi takes off about how Payal has refused and that's final ... Payal tries to stop her *rofl* ... Khushi will handle ... till Arnav shouts "shut up!" and hands out Akash's suicide note ... Loved the way Khushi kept giving way to her smiles in the middle of her ranting ... poor Arnav had to keep a straight face through it ... not difficult for Arnav, Barun must have had a problem!

Khushi starts reading out suicide note with full emoshuns ... Arnav and Khushi watch Payal for her reaction ... Payal reacts with satisfactory distress, so Khushi signals Arnav ... *rofl* this guy cannot playact, he needs his cues all the time ... he says his lines dutifully ... Payal asks where is Akash ... Arnav tells her ... heading to commit suicideee ...
Payal is distraught ... What? You saw him go and you didn't stop him? What sort of brother are you?

Oops ... NOT in script ... *rofl* ... Arnav flummoxed ... Now what???!!! What should I say??!!
Khushi is not drama director for nothing ... she steps in and adlibs frantically ... till Payal says the required lines ... take me to him ...
So Khushi smiles at Arnav ... Chaliye, Arnavji ... *rofl* Part 2 accomplished ...

They reach suicide point ... Payal rushes frantically shouting for Akash ... Arnav takes opportunity to grumble ... I told you it was a stupid plan ...if my brother is jumping off a cliff, would I try to stop him, or come to give you a letter? Khushi says, it worked, didn't it?

Rest plays out like cheesy 70s movie ... Payal sees Akash's glasses and is distraught, Khushi says, 'maybe he took them off so he wouldn't see the height and feel less cared, and also makes jumping easier, what do you say, Arnavji?' with big innocent doe eyes ...
Arnav glares at her, then turns to hide his grin ... methinks the glare was to tell her, don't make me laugh!

Little byplay during Payal's weeping ... Arnav Khushi looking around, completely unaffected by Payal's tears, Khushi asks Arnav by gestures, where is your brother, Arnav gestures back to Payal ... let her say it first ... Sarun are so good at these silent scenes, they should do a Dumb Charades in the show sometime, it would be a scream ...
And of course Payal acknowledges her love ... Akash appears miraculously, Payal clings to his chest and all is well.

Khushi delighted, she grabs Arnav's arm in her delight, Arnav stares at her ... and she gets conscious and releases it ... he's looking at her, a question in his eyes, but she has withdrawn already ... smiling, she gives him a thumbs up, he half-smiles back ... and Payal realises she was had ...
But all's well that ends well ... Payal is still concerned about the family issues, but Arnav steps in ... he'll handle the family, not to worry ... Khushi looks at him gratefully, a soft half smile ... this is the Arnav she fell in love with for sure.

Liked the last shot ... Akash Payal walk together, Arnav Khushi walk on either side, still apart, walking in the same direction, but there is still distance between them ...

  1. Hey Diyu......

loved the episode.......was 'rofl' watching it..........and was laughing so much reading ur post now........loved all the scenes.......

special mention to arnav-akash scene......and arnav's theory to win the client......these two should have more scenes together, would be a riot to see them interact.......

'Ab kya bolu' was epic........and Barun was awesome......Always love Sanaya in comedy.......i think as of now, she is the only female lead who can do extremely good comedy.......her timing is perfect.....with all her additions......just too good

also the fact that arnav kept re-iterating that the plan is stupid, he shud stop his brother rather then delivering his suicide note to payal.....was a good touch......makes me feel better that the cv's know that we are intelligent...hehehe

i hope now arnav uses his brain and realizes that, thats what khushi did when LA was leaving for london.....the bangle truth won't be out so soon, i guess...but there should be a scene where we know for sure that arnav knows that the plants were send by khushi and LA doesnt even know about it.......

  2. Hey Geetu,

Hectic weekend ... thanks for commenting ... The episode was hilarious! Arnav's "AB KYA BOLUN?" was epic ... so desperate - you didn't give me my dialogues for this scene!!!

And even their miming during Payal's crying - both were so completely not bothered about Payal, they were just - where is Akash? Wait for Payal to finish her lines ... it was hilarious ... and that "hai na, Arnavji?" ... I'm sure Barun had NO problem giving that slight smile, he must have been dying to laugh out loud, Khushi looked SO innocent, butter won't melt in my mouth types!

I really wonder if the truth of the plants will ever come out - the cv's are famous for leaving these threads hanging ... chalo, let's see how they take it now!
