TV This Week ... 11th - 15th Feb

Veera ... Veera found by Nihal. What I want to know is - will the teacher be suspended, or at least rebuked? Also, will Baldev's role in the cockroach drama be revealed? Spoilers indicate that Veera is deeply traumatized by this incident, and changes ... so looking forward to seeing how she changes. Loved the scene of Ratan in the gurudwara on Friday :) despite herself, praying for Veera.

  1. I have the same questions as Dia...and even if it were for a sense of tokenism, i want a scene when they take action against the teacher and show some attempt to counsel the boy....i know that it is not central to the story but somehow i feel its important....

Like Dia, i loved the gurudwara scene...a absolutely natural way in which a normal human being would behave..there was nothing "heroine like" in that behaviour...but somehow i could relate to it far better than the huge tokenisms that are dished out in the form of how women are supposed to "behave" when faced with dilemmas of any kind....it had a ring of realism to it.....I also accept that it is easier to do it in Veera becos the concept is of an anokhi ma and therefore the full-fledged acceptance of Veera by Ratan will be at bay but i like the narrative for the beautiful way in which it is unfolding...the inner turmoil at war with her conscience, her plea was so worded that even if anyone had issue with why she was unaccepting of Veera will still understand where she comes from....she makes no bones of not liking the situation but also understands the peculiarity of her circumstances. I don't know where they (PH) are headed but i have liked their style thus far.....

  3. Firstly Dia, thanks a lot for sharing Sanaya-Karan segments of IWL. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Both were absolutely entertaining and they do look good together and complemented each other very well :D

Expecting to see Sanaya back in a good show soon, guess we will have to wait for things to get finalized and things might start to roll only after she is back from US after visiting her family.

BTW girls, check this Sanaya-Mohit segment, i really had a smile on my face listening to both of them talk about each other. Their nature really balance out each others :). I loved this segment and loved the normal and strong bond that they share :)

    http://www.india-forums.com/video/television/261257-wassup-tv-episode-114.htm

@Veera..loved both Fri and today's epi, i loved how they highlighted the bonding that has grown between Ratan and Veera and a father-son kinda bond that is growing between Nihal and Ranvir. I was very happy to note that the teacher's deed came out and how Ratan took her to task, i think its the first time she accepted openly Veera as her daughter right, it shows that at a subconcious level she has accepted Veera as her daughter. It was a beautifully done scene.

I hope it also comes out that the other bad kid was the one who was the root cause of all this, i think once Veera starts talking she might tell Ranvir what all happened.

I have been busy with my assignments and hence have not been able to follow PV.. awaiting written update by Shwetha :D

I read Arshad Bhai's intv and had a BIG smile on my face and mentally was telling "see i told ya" to all those ppl who thought LM was the saviour of IPK . Sorry no offence to LM, i give him his due respect, he too has done a wonderful job, but.... :P.

Like i said before Truth does come out shinning how much ever ppl try to hide it behind all the web of lies they weave :)

Hope i have not missed out on anything, will be a bit busy this week, have some assignments to submit.. cya all..take care :D

    1. Nandini,

As a person, I like Arshad better too...he is very honest when he says he'd never change anything..he worked too hard for it..wanted to hug him (in contrast to LM who says I can do better..if they gave me more...so indirectly, it looks like it is everyone else's fault if the segments he did fell short...Grrr...)

I just want to know who did that Anjali - slaps Shyam scene...ASR was pathetic in that episode...just wondered. That was the worst scene in the show for me.

Everything else- Anjali recovering too soon etc. was in the script, so the director is not at fault...but ASR in that epi...esp that running up and all...expressions were off too...it was badly done, the script was very much fine there.

Busy week? Hope your assignments go well. Take care.

    5. I think the whole Arnav breakdown after he knowing the truth about Garima and his dad and Shyam's revelation was done by LM, I was not impressed by both actually :( I found shyam really over dramatic and ASR second breakdown kinda vampirsh :P

  4. @Veera ... Usha, Nandini, Rekha, I absolutely LOVED the episode!!! My shiddat fulfilled - the teacher got taken to task thoroughly.
For the first time Ratan called Veera 'meri bachhi' ... noticed by both Moti Chaiji and Nihal. And the entire village is upset about the erring teacher and wants her to be taken to task, even calling a Panchayat meeting for this - bravo! Am glad they are giving this aspect so much importance.
And simply loved Ratan, the tigress, giving the teacher such a blast for her irresponsibility. Fully deserved! Sneha was fantastic in that scene - her eyes literally spat fire!

Veera broke my heart today ... when she remembered that writing 'Veerji' was what got her into trouble ... the way she's sitting all sehmi hui and scared ... that little kid is a fantastic actress!

Also loved the Ranvi-Nihal scene ... I love the way they are bringing out how that little boy has taken the responsibility of his sister and his mother on his shoulders without a word of complaint, and always does his best to fulfil it ... yet he's a child only after all ... how he misses a father's presence in his life.

Arshad's interview - I thought of Nandini, and Shwetha, when I read it :))) Arshad champions! I like this guy much better than LM ... quiet, unassuming, gets on with his work without feeling the need to trumpet his achievements. Also found it interesting that he and LM never direct together - they take on where the other leaves off. Good to know they had two teams for the GH and RM - now only if they would invest in multiple cameras, so that the actors don't have to shoot each scene four times - they might be able to can scenes faster and be more efficient!

Nandini, thanks for the link of the Monaya segment - off to watch :) And ghee shakkar in your mouth ... or candies anc chocolates - hoping to get news of her new show once she returns from her holiday.

There are some new pics of Sanaya from her Zing photoshoot out on the forum - am posting the link in the Sanaya page. She is looking smoking HOT!!!! I think the pics are probably on this segment - haven't seen it yet :)))

Deepali Pansare is coming on Adalat as Ronit Roy's love interest. :)

  5. Caught the last few episodes of MB and have to hand it to the creators - they did build a good case - anyone watching would start doubting the hero, had it not been a hindi serial where the hero cannot be bad, u would be almost convinced of the heros 'kameenapan'. They even gave a very probable reason for why he saved the girl - not the balraj was in cahoots with the hero - but coz the hero likes to play his own hand - he could not let someone else take away his hard work! Also showed that the times the hero was pensive was not coz he was falling in love but because he was thinking of his next steps - so all in all - a very good build up

Having said that - what followed, the heros very public humiliation of the girl and the pre cap of the mil begging killed the show for me - now it does not matter if he did it coz he is evil or coz he is doing it for MB, his rtr is now unattainable - so what could have been interesting is now merely despicable - why don't hindi serial makers know where to draw the line!

    1. This is an interesting read ... hits the nail on the head wrt to the two types of heroes on the small screen.

      Unreal love

And then you watch a show like Downton Abbey where the hero is a real MAN - smart, gentlemanly, intelligent, not afraid to stand up for what he believes is right, deeply in love with his wife, yet able to handle her tantrums and her occasional nasty side (she has one) without becoming a puppy dog ... and you wonder - why can't we see heroes like Matthew Crawley on Indian telly? Or even heroes like Alverstoke or the Marquis of Devil's Cub ... *sigh* I wish someone would adapt the Georgette Heyer romances to the Indian small screen. With all the taboos of society of those days, which could be easily adapted to Indian's society's do's and don'ts.

Thanks for the warning, Mona ... I hate seeing a girl being humiliated in public, all in the name of self-sacrificing womanhood ... so will skip MB for some time. The only thing which made ASR's behaviour palatable after the hate marriage was that he didn't allow Khushi to be humiliated in public, and his family kept up the appearances as well.

    2. GH stories on the small screen - has been my dream too - but no, not any more - i can only foresee what they will do in the name of adaption!!! (though long along P&P was adapted as trishna and that was well done - again it was a time bound script that stuck to the original story)

And Dia - exactly!! why cant the heroes be more human - yes RK was rude but never humiliated his wife in public (except the one time when he did realize that he had overstepped the line and the story turned from there) but now - ridiculous - now even if he is doing it to save her or to be pure evil - it kills his character completely - and i am sorry to see that coz up till now he was one character that was perfectly drawn - very clear and interesting and always true to character

    3. oh and the article is true to the T - there really are two kinds on screen and to be honest the first kind is atleast a bit more interesting then the weepy second kind - having said that - what kind of message are we giving the young girls around?

    4. Mona,

MB is dead for me officially. Now no amount of RTR can redeem RK even if he did it to save Madhu from someone or he is suffering from cancer/going to die - I don't care. There is a line beyond which I feel no amount of redemption is going to work and in Madhubala, RK just crossed that line.

In case of IPK, agreed Arnav was nasty to Khushi in the beginning of Hate marriage especially when he walks away to his room without giving any explanations to the family but he stood up for her always. He stood up when the people taunt at mooh dikhayi and clearly said that Khushi is a Raizada bahu and no insult would be tolerated and also during Holi when he saved Khushi from Shyam. He even went and stayed in GH so for Arnav, it could work without extensive redemption. He never insulted her like RK did for Madhu here. So now MB is just ridiculous no matter which way they take the show.

    5. Psarada, exactly what i said - what could have been interesting has been reduced to ashes for me too - last bit at the chawl and the precap is the end of the show for me

      Delete
    6. Uh Oh!

I did not see the epi...sounds like it cannot be cancer or anything...

But if he did not care for her at all, why did he get her parents married? Altruistic during revenge??? Does not make sense, if he really means what he said. (I am secretly hoping he is strill a villain...that way my heroine can go on to become a superstar and teach him a lesson... But that never happens. So I can safely say he is not a villain.)

So, he insults her more and more...so there is no chance of reconciliation..I wonder why.
Gee.... this means Madhu will stop being the glycerine tanker for some time...she is going to fight back...should be interesting until that climax when RK will turn out to be the SUPER HERO again... It will be watchable for me until that climax, when I should switch off.

Ah! Looking forward to Madhubala's junoon. *ducks chappals and angry glares*

Sorry, girls, but I believe in powerful women- purely a feminist to the core.

    7. Su,

I too believe in powerful women but I know in the end they will make Madhu forgive RK and that is why I can't stand this serial now. No amount of redemption can redeem RK's character now and I too hope he stays the villain and the PH would rope in someone to play a lead(if they want to take the romance route again) against DD. But I doubt that will happen. Eventually after everything, the creatives will dish out a stupid reason for RK's doing and maybe show 1-2 weeks of redemption and voila we have Madhu forgiving RK because pyaar mein sab kuch maaf hai. Please give me a break. Not interested to stick around and watch so officially off the MB bandwagon.

      Delete
    8. Sarada,
'in the end they will make Madhu forgive RK'

The viewers are lucky if they stop with that. Most likely, you'll see Madhu apologising for letting him mislead her...those pretty eyes brimming with tears and thanks...

I stopped respecting RK from the time he fell prey to Diplai's taunt and went about that test...lasted 1/2 day, 1 day, 2 days...does not matter. After that he has just been an interfering little busy body for me....he has to get people married, get people jobs..it is pretty clear that he loves her. He is putting on a mask.

Of course, they will make Madhu forgive RK (Unless VD gets a movie offer and quits, which he is unlikely to)...If she gives him a nice dressing down and tells him to stop interfering with other people's lives and let people take decisions for themselves,...that will be the perfect way to end the tale for me.... not going to happen.

      Sigh...

    9. i think i am nuts - or this could be the diversion techniques - i need to work - so of course i end up thinking of irrelevant nonsense!! :D:D:D

so my point was - could not understand the public humiliation - after all RK went to lengths to tell all she was his wife - and all that - so my theory is - (if he turns out to be the good guy - "doing this for a reason" kind of thing) - then RK publicly announcing that he dumps the girl is actually helping her in the community - now people will blame him (as they should)but not say a word against MB - she will be the "bechari" not the culprit of a broken marriage - i know i know this is skewed thinking but i had such a bad day at office - need to get my mind off work and relax for a bit :D

    10. Mona, true, I too prefer the first type of hero ... there is scope for change and redemption there, as long as they keep the interactions with the heroine (and other girls) within bounds of decency, and not glorify physical abuse and manhandling ... there is a line and they have to make sure not to cross it. Haven't watched MB at all the last few days (Chinese NY holidays here), so can't say much about your discussion ... but your last point above, gave food for thought. Still - does it necessarily have to be humiliation at all? Because even if a guy does announce he is the one dumping, the blame always falls on the girl, that she must have done something to deserve it ... the extreme example being rape.
And then begging by the girl's mother? That leaves a bad taste in my mouth - I would far rather the girl walks out with head held high.
Again, I am generalising from your discussion, I haven't watched at all :)))

      Delete
    11. Forgot to add ... the second type of hero, though he is portrayed as ideal husband and son, to me, is far worse ... if he can't stand up for and support his wife, and give her respect, all in the name of filial devotion, then he's a poor excuse for a man, and his upbringing is at fault.

  6. All QH fans here,
I am a junoon addict but I catch QH also in fast forward, that is only what seems interesting on screen.
Anyway, yesterday there was a scene yesterday which was absolutely touching and gave the reason to some extent of what I saw in the discussion of last week as to why Najma doesn't talk to the other sisters.
The happiness on her face when she feels her father has come to see her and then the tears when she realises that again he does not bother about her but has come to see her mother. Najma is the hurt one who was born at the time of the turmoil and has always hankered for her father to acknowledge her.

Najma is the hurt one who was born at the time of the turmoil and has always hankered for her father to acknowledge her.

I was actually distracted during that scene and wondered about the relevance of that scene. I thought they had hugged at the hospital. Now when I think about it, it was Ayan who had hugged her. ..thanks for pointing it out...

    2. Su,

I keep reading everyday yours and rekha's posts but I have usually nothing to contribute. But yesterday Najma the character and the actress portrayed the pathos so perfectly that I really felt for her.

I Still like asad and Zoya a lot, Zoya a little bit more I guess.

    3. I saw the first half of the episode (had guests over later) ... agree with you, I liked Najma. Actually, I quite enjoy QH these days, whatever little I see ... and unlike most of you here, I am enjoying the family drama with the whole mystery about the fire in doll factory ... the good thing being that they will probably disclose the secret before too long, instead of it becoming a 'khoda pahad nikla chuha' scenario that it became in IPK!

‘then what was that scene after the slap, when she runs to her room and cries, and then gives a monologue about her family and finding her father’

That was not after the slap.
That was when he mentioned that SHE DID NOT DESERVE A MOTHER- issi liye aap ki ammi nahi hai- words that hurt more than the slap and the manhandling-...if you saw the apology scene, she tells him that she has very little memory of her mother...she remembers her mother felt her pain more than her..and says just because she does not have a mother, doesn’t mean she does not know the importance of mothers...

Khushi- was made to look like she was not fully accepted right from the beginning...Bua and Garima taunted her from the Payal’s broken wedding....pressurised her into getting engaged and she obliged...it was an obligation.
With Zoya, she is on a mission to find her father...knowing fully well that he had deserted her mother...and even her aapi does not understand her need for this quest (so she says in that monologue...)...because it does not make sense. Why does she want to go behind a man who had forsaken his family...but Zoya probably wants to meet him and ask him why he did it...she wants to know, and she is not going to do anything with the info, the guy may or may not deserve forgiveness...but she feels incomplete knowing her dad is alive and not knowing him.

And never have they shown Zoya missing her parents... she does not look for her mother among the stars..she simply has a deep conection with Allah. That might change when she finds her father...her mother might appear more real for her then. Right now, there is no link to her past, except for her faded memories (again, unlike Khushi who had her mom’s sis looking after her, a constant reminder of her mom) .

    1. On Ratan, I understand that vehem thing that you are saying...i am not saying at all that she is bad..just that there are certain things you have to do...she knows what Veera means to her son...and even for the child’s sake, she cannot accept his sister..not negative, but I was looking for some more unselfishness as Ranvi’s mother, than mere tolerance there.

Rekh, I understand the anokhi maa concept...I too don’t want Ratan to take full responsibility.
But I wish she was distracted with something else..and at least thought of Veera as an orphan under her roof...not keeping a distance, but not caring from her heart either...wish she could be neutral about her...just my wish. This whether to love or not...when the answer is obvious, she is a part of the family. (But then I guess Veera pines for her love, so they have to show Ratan in a dilemma..so acceptable, very much.)
I am reminded of Main hoon na...how SRK comes back after years and wins her trust and love...it took her that long to forgive, but the siblings did not have a bond. Anyway, I expect Ratan to fully accept Veera only much much later. Probably, when she realise her father’s dream and all. I love ONE THING about Veera..the fact that she CANNOT CRY. Absolutely love that about her. It was a beautiful concept they weaved in to the character...probably she will cry one day when Ratan accepts her.

On Avantika...this is the woman who left her husband years ago, when she learned he had taken a woman to get her abortion done...kept it from him that this was the reason for their separation...I expect a business woman like her to come out clean...she should have asked him to his face back then...if she did not trust him anymore, she should have told him the reason. And the biggest blunder for me, is how she was willing to be reconciled with him at a point in time, WITHOUT EVEN DISCUSSING THIS. That is why she has none of my sympathy.
‘Zoya so far, I can see only through Asad's POV because he is the better actor.’:

Zoya is not a bechaari...Asad keeps saying that. And I have felt exactly that. I have never sympathised with her too, unlike Dilshad who feels she is a bechaari. Zoya’d be surprised if she knew her phoophi thought of her as a bechaari.

Zoya does not have the warmth. She has not been portrayed like that. She cares for phoophi and Najma, not in a girly sort of way...she does not show affection at all...she understands respects phoophi like her equal...I think that is how the character has been written. Alittle emotionally detached on the first look, as she appears to Asad. That is why he is justified in making that assumption that she does not the aehemiyat of relationships, or tameez.

    2. Su, I have no idea about Avantika....i don't follow the serial at all...i did not understand the love story between the leads so i gave it up in the first few weeks itself....

as far as Z is concerned....i have said this in the past too....i don't feel much of a connect with the back story of A and Z.. altho i was a bit curious about Asad who is decidedly a more complex character than say Z...(altho i may be wrong)

As i see it, QH demands too much of patience to understand the characters and we need to swim thru the semantics.....i am not saying that every love story can have a unique background or that it is even necessary to build it...I treat Z and A as just people who are who they are becos of whatever circumstances they have faced in life and see their relationship developing purely from that perspective, simply as two people who are destined (or thru plain happenstance)to meet and fall in love ...so far i have liked their bond... i haven't really dwelled too much on their individual characteristics...there is a lot that does not make sense...but i put it down to my lack of interest in following the theme of the story...but there is still a lot that also makes sense when Asad and Zoya are together...purely opposites attract logic!!there is some fire there...as a shallow viewer..i am fine with it...i am not looking beyond it...and as it is i am not regular with watching it too...

      Delete
    3. I'm pretty similar to Rekha ... I follow QH as a fairly disinterested viewer ... Asad-Zoya have not hooked me to the show, so I'm not following it as a love story ... but like I said above, am enjoying the unravelling of the factory fire secret. If the cv's keep up the story telling at a decent pace, I will watch, and if they manage to actually give some depth to the mystery, so much better.
A bit like SGP ... Ishan-Suhana didn't interest me much, but the rest of the family was enjoyable :) Here the family is very different, but now it's interesting.

    6. Arey, Su, I can't argue much about either Zoya or Avantika, because I don't really follow either of them regularly at all! :))) My impressions and comments are only from the one off episodes I catch once in a while ... that's where I compare and contrast the connect I feel ... so for me, it's really the acting in that particular episode, rather than the entire characterization or the back story, which frankly, I don't know - not in detail. And in the acting department, Avantika scores over Zoya ... Ratan is not in the same league, she's WAYYYY ahead!

Su asked whether I followed IPK only for Sanaya ... I guess her answer is here ... I think I followed IPK because the acting was great, not only Sanaya, but also the rest - Barun, Abhaas, Nani, Mami, Anjali ... almost everyone, including the Prakash's and random waiters :) The story stopped making sense a long time back, but the acting kept most of us hooked. And the chemistry, of course!

PKDH - acting of the leads - bad. The rest - okay to watchable, nothing more.
QH - Zoya was awful to start with, she has improved slightly now, though her dialogue delivery and voice modulation is still bad. But Asad, Dilshad, Rashid are very watchable, even Najma is sweet ... I still skip Ayaan-Humeira-other sister scenes, though I like Asad-Ayaan. Razia is frankly villainous, and she is good, Shireen is good-hearted dumb, she is ok. Right now the plot is good, so am watching. If the romance takes over, I will probably stop :)

  9. hello hi ladies, this is my leave application... due to some lifestyle changes, i will not be online 24/7 from now on, so will definitely be different from the spammer i was... for the next two months. will try to increase the TRP of the website anyhow, so let me be the first to congratulate dia on 500,000 hits.

tippani on QH.. they gave out new promo where rashid has blood on his hands and mamu-mumani are watching zo's building burn, OSO style.

yes, the past story is unraveling at breakneck speed. they still have not changed the montage, that has asad and zoya handcuffed.. her restless, him accepting. now i think that is symbolism for the current relationship status between the two of them (could be that they are too lazy to shoot a new montage :P ) the bloopers are showing, most probably because someone has asked them to get the bftp over with and get on with the romance... what they dont know is, romance itself des not hold half the mazaa of having a BFTP in the background. yes, dia is right.. the saazish holds most of my attention.. i like asad-zoya in small doses. too much will kill QH for me. i liked how zoya faced rashid.. exactly like i pictured zoya to do it. not mincing words, not backing down. good scene.

veera.. wow. caught another episode today, cried again. i dont know why i should keep watching a (brilliant) story that makes me cry. yes dia, little veera is an excellent actress.

PKDH, MB, etc.. not watching anymore. ekta-style serials are not my cup of tea.

Very realistically done.. no bekar ka OTT drama.

Sneha Wagh is a brilliant actress, Ranvir and Veera are absolutely fantastic.. and each and every parallel characters are all fitting and doing their roles to T. i sincerely hope all these people get their due recognition. Good things must be encouraged. The USP of this serial is its very Real, hope this serial is encouraged well by the Channel.

@QH promo, i saw it too.. actually very well done.. though i do not watch the serial, i found the promo very interesting.

chalo now bye all take care :D

    4. Hey J, will miss you! Try to keep popping in, re! Hope all good things on the lifestyle changing front!

Haven't seen the promo of QH, but watched the episode and liked it. Am glad they are not dragging the mystery for too long. And I find they're not keeping things subtle here ... Najma finds the chip, cut to Dilshad dropping it :) ... spelling things out clearly :)))

I loved Veera ... Ratan and MC in kitchen, the Nihal Ranvi bond slowly developing ... you can see how much Ranvi misses his father and is trying manfully to keep his promise, but he's just a kid after all ... Ratan says 'khaa le puttar' and Veera eats ... this show is beautiful! And Ratan, Veera, MC, and Ranvi are powerhouse performers!!!

    5. J!

Will miss you...end of my bak bak about QH, I guess.

      Yeah, the promo is rocking....

I am still so excited about it even after though it has been airing for three days now. This is the kind of promo I used to wish for IPK...MINDBLOWING!

Zoya opens the doors to the past.
She sees Maamu and Mumaani...and a child sitting on a chair. (Is that herself or Najma on whose first B'day, life changed for Dilshad and Rashid?)Rashid is trying to put out the fire ( WOW...) but he looks at his hands...and there is blood on it.(DOUBLE WOWWW...)
Zoya opens another door and the fire within blasts her off ...she falls back...and Asad (who else?) catches her...It is a lovely promo...

Sandy, you should see the promo...YOu'd love it.

The epis as such, have been quite good, though I enjoyed last week's epis better...all days were good.

And they have changed the montage. It now shows the faces of all the major players..Rashid, Maamu, Raziya, Zoya and Asad...

Some bloopers in teh current track...I guess BBE is tired since there are so many...

      Starting with:
      1. Where is Mariam?
      2. HOw did Mariam end up on the streets where Dilshad found her...she was supposed to be in a car.
      3. Zoya (tricking the agency) talks about her grandfather having a special connection with the gun because he used it in the army...Arrey..technology has not graced the Indian Army or what? They are using the same gun her (supposed)grandpa used? I thought guns from that era would be vintage !

      4. A dance to celebrate Valentine's day? Now, this is what I call a trp drama...

    6. Su,

From that WU, the promo will keep the intrigue factor high on how the chips stack up. Good hai!

    7. Thanks for the WU of the promo, Su, I'm enjoying the track and the unfolding of the factory mystery ... so yes, I do plan to watch :) The promo sounds like it has the Nissar touch ... or is it the 4 lions touch ... intrigue and symbolism aplenty.
This actually reminds me of the fourth IPK promo that got a lot of people hooked, the nafrat paas aane na de, mohabbat door jaane na de one.

But I think in QH, they are avoiding too much symbolism, and are spelling things out more clearly. Which is actually good for a more detached viewer like me, as I can figure out what is happening very easily whenever I tune in. And that helps to attract viewers, I think ...

  10. Anyone wanting to watch SC. Now suddenly I don't have any serials to watch. Veera is little late for me in AD so I watch it on repeat but primetime seems to be suddenly empty and I don't have any good serials to follow. Was jumping on/off MB bandwagon but now firmly out of the ship.

Saw the promos for SC - SLB seems to have gone all lengths to promote the show. They have a sky diving act for introduction of the hero Gautam Rode. Hmm seems like you need to spend big bucks if you need to grab eyeballs and SLB is not leaving any stone unturned when it comes to SC. Also the Dad in SC is the same guy who plays Yash's dad in PV. I may tune in for 1-2 weeks but if the serial is more show than substance then it would be same as MB for me - jump on/off when time/mood permits and not follow it regularly.

    1. Sarada, i saw the promos...but strangely...apart from the first which to me looked interesting and quite in the SLB mould...i was a bit surprised with the one of the other promos...the skydiving one juxtaposed with the traditionally garbed Rode (I know its not fair to make an assumption based on promos, i will only say..i did not quite get the point of mutual exclusivity being made in the promo...is that he loves the fast life as much as the traditional one...so??
didn't quite get the meaning of the tagline..agar aadmi aisa ho toh uski mohabbat kaisi hogi?

Then again, SLB has a different style, has a tendency to make u savor moments on screen....Sawariya despite its lack of mass appeal was rather a stunning piece of cinematic work (languid pace, fantastic cinematography despite the use of one colour largely)..students of cinema would have enjoyed it...as would even lay people who like the different aspects of film making....SLB would be tested becos TV is a difficult medium but since he has the time, he may use it well...so i am in that sense fairly neutral..would look at it as it comes...that time slot suits me a lot!!

    2. Rekha,

I think SLB is sticking to the original concept of the novel/movie. The hero in the novel/movie is quite open/liberated but at the same time he is very religious and he is one who wants to do social work in his life. That is what I felt from the promo that SLB is sticking to the original concept. But then like you said, it all depends on what the layman thinks - the normal TRP audience. The show may be a masterpiece but if the common man can't understand that, then it will be a critics hit but not a TRP grabber. Need to see what SLB will show here.

      Delete
    3. I plan to watch ... the time is convenient for me, and the sets and costumes are good, like watching a movie. Am not a great fan of SLB, but if he can deliver a story, I'll watch. The story is known to all, so the presentation has to be good, and he does do well there. Depends on the acting ... am not a great fan of Jennifer's, and have never seen Gautam, but he's looking good.
I found the promos, especially the second one, quite cheesy :) Let's see ... will watch without any expectations, which is always a good way to start :))) And let SLB and SP bother about the TRP's ... not my problem :)

      Delete
    4. SC: I was not impressed by the promo. May be because I expected something subtle...this hero is too large for life...and I am not sure if I'll like SLB's melodramatic style. But looks wise, the show looks beautiful.

      BTW,
Things seem to be looking up for SP.
Caught an epi of Kaali- the heroine's guy has arrived. He is a lawyer who has managed to win the rogue father's confidence...and his intentions are masked. The girl refuse to marry him, but she is vblackmailed in to it.

On the day of her engagement, she cuts her ring finger and bandages it...

and what does the hero do?

He unties the roll of bandage...reveals her cut...and puts te ring over the wound!!!

Kuchh paane ke liye dard sehna padta hai!!!

I liked it. The guy is decent. Deepak Wadhwa ansd Arjun Bijlani...both are OK actually.(There are so many actors sitting jobless or what? )

So, SC, Kaali in new avataar and Savitri...Things are looking very good for SP.

I am looking forward to Savitri...AD's sister is very pretty.

Though I doubt I'll follow any of these shows regularly..

      Delete
    5. Su,

Savitri is on LifeOk and not on SP. So basically on SP the shows that are going to come are Masterchef (would take 8 or 8:30 slot) and Sherdil Shergill. Once Masterchef winds up,you have Custody(I think Balaji's production) taking its place. Then there is new shobana desai's Shubhi bani Shubhlaxmi and that most probably will take YRK slot in June/July. I think Daag is officially out now and there is no news about Daag and maybe it will come up after Kaali winds up. Then the show that may face the axe would be Saathiya and that will be around mid of the year. I don't see any other new serials coming on SP this year.

      Delete
    6. SP is doing okay as of now ... three shows are doing badly, of which one is going off air, the second (Kaali) is rumoured to be next in line, and am guessing Behna will follow soon. Those are the worst performers, the rest are all 3+ - yippee, even Veera has reached 3+!!! that too at 10.30 pm! That should show SP that if they don't interfere, the shows can do just fine!

Hopefully, at least a couple of the new shows will do well, and the old ones like YRK and SNS can be taken off air ... shows like that carrying on for 4 years is just ridiculous!!!

I also feel Cinevistas Daag seems to be out ... no news about it, and there is some news about a show by Cinevistas on Life OK instead. So a couple more slots might open up later in the year - of course, I'm only interested in a new show with Sanaya :))) Though I do hope SD Shergil is on the lines of SGP ... we need a nice family sitcom!

And WHY does SP not shift Veera to 8 pm - or even 7.30, and SLB at 8 pm?! It's very good as a family show, I really liked the way they dealt with the teacher and the issue of corporal punishment in schools.

      Delete
    7. Dia,

Now after SLB's launch the news next is Masterchef is going to come in as a daily and it would take up 8/8:30 slot. Kaali would be shifted to 11PM slot and Sherdil shergill would take up the remaining slot whichever is left after Masterchef. So basically the programming of SP is that it will have a zabardast program schedule lined up from 7:00 - 11PM.

I would love to see Veera back at a primetime 8/8:30 but I think they need a strong program at 10:30 too to counter Punaar Vivaah and Bade Ache and that is why they have kept Veera at 10:30PM timeslot. Now that it is a slot leader I don't see any chance of Veera being shifted. My gut feeling.

I have no idea of SD Shergil - saw some promos and then SP suddenly stopped the promos. But Karan T has given a cryptic message mentioning the behna show will wind up - honestly there was not much story left anyways. It is that one couple fights and other tries to get them together.

YRK and SNS most probably will go off-air mid of this year. YRK has extension till june and after that they will wind it up. I still don't know how it is attracting people but it is ridiculous to have both those shows on air. Balaji's show casting seems to be done and finalized and Shobhana's Shubi bani Shubhlaxmi seems to be in nascent stages and they are still looking for casting. Hopefully something will open up with Sanaya in lead.

      Delete
    8. Yep, I heard that ... they will replace Kaali with Masterchef and make it a daily ... I guess they will telecast half an episode at a time - usually it was a weekend show, with one hour episodes, right?

SP is struggling between 7.30 to 8.30, so those are the three slots they are tackling first. Masterchef will be for limited time, till the next daily is ready.

We don't even know whether SDSG will come soon ... like you said, no promos at all ... I saw a glimpse of it on the promised lineup for 2013, and then silence after that. I think Nandini posted an article which spoke about it being revamped, but again, no further news. Balaji, if it has promised, will deliver ... so that will come whenever it was supposed to ... so SP is allowing Balaji back after the spat? Who is the cast there - any idea?
So the new shows are in the pipeline, but don't know how many are ready - SP needs 3 quickly, and so far, only the SLB one is ready, Masterchef is just a stopgap arrangement. Let's hope they slot Sanaya into one of the upcoming ones, Sanaya is more than ready to start work again, or will be as soon as she returns from her holiday.

Yes, I had the same thought as you about Veera - it is slot leader, and a very strong one too ... so they won't change it in a hurry. If they shifted it, I could watch it earlier - now it comes at 1 am my time, so I have to catch the repeat. But I'm glad it's doing well - a really good show!

      Delete
    9. Dia,

Balaji's show is Custody - I still am not sure if SP is okay with Balaji at a prime time slot - both ekta and SP have huge egos. Until the show goes on air, I won't believe that show is there to stay. The only 3 shows they have in pipeline now is custody(I am betting SP will switch this to LifeOk - don't ask me why - my gut feeling), SD shergil and Shobana desai's new show.

And SP needs only 2 shows in the middle of year to replace SNS and YRK - one can be Shobana Desai's new show and there is opening left for one other show. Need to wait and watch what SP will want there.

One more thing Dia, by March it seems whole of the India would be digitalized and the TRPs would be more accurate. If SP is a slot leader by a huge margin then I doubt SP will do anything to tinker with their current shows so there will be a lambi wait for SI's new show. That's why I hope Sanaya jumps ship and joins some other channel and not wait for SP to cast her again.

      Delete
    10. I heard that SP was getting ready to axe SNS, but then the three new shows tanked, and SNS jumped back with high TRP's. And I remember that Rajan Shahi axed Bidai when he felt the story was done, though it was still getting high TRP's, and YRK is a RS show too.
So I wouldn't be surprised if either of them did get the axe ... PROVIDED that 7.30-8.30 three slot period improves. Those 3 shows are dragging SP down big time, and till they're changed, the others won't be touched. Once those 3 slots improve, then SP might tackle the rest, and in that case, SNS and YRK will be in line for sure.

I don't much care, really ... I have no loyalty to SP or any of the other channels ... but surfing channels, I do find that SP shows have the best presentation - the rest are very tacky! But I still watch Zee and Colors for QH/PV and NBT.
So whatever channel Sanaya comes on doesn't make a difference to me - will watch anyway - hopefully she will do a show I can enjoy!
But for her sake, I would like her to come on SP or Zee/Colors/Sony, since those are the leading GEC's. Anyway, tv actors switch channels all the time - it's really not a big deal. Since she was in a contract with Star, the ball is in their court ... since she is ready to work again, they have to give her a show, or else, when her contract ends, she will leave. She has mentioned more than once that she has a few offers in hand.

    11. Sarada / Dia,

Sony apparently has a new show lined up at 7:30 titled Khoobsurat - seems romance kinds hence the SLB show slotted at that time (perhaps reason for SC launch delay too!). Also seems there is rumour of another show fronted by BigB on TV?

Agree with you that Veera will not budge because of the other shows at that time on other channels. And also that no major shookups seem to be in the immediate offing until the digitization chaos settles.

YRK, SNS have a ready made audience. Same for DABH and BV. Agreed these do not suit our sensibilities but remember they are looking at pan India audiences and somewhere these stories have maintained their audience connect vis a vis their premises. So they are like the cashcows you will not kill but keep them going while you gamble on the rest.

Life Ok for now seems to be to steal audiences away from Zee, Colors and Sony rather than be given an image of a serious channel in itself. And then by showing Star promos on Life Ok try to migrate the audience to Star.
They revamped StarOne bcos they got Channel V as the youth channel (established youth brand) and pushed shows of that genre there.

The race to get ahead is more for Zee and Colors as I see it.

The more I see more it seems that content is hardly the first thing on any of the channel's minds.

    12. Sandy,

Agree with you. The 7:30 slot is the big one now - on Zee TV Sapne is the Top TRP grabber for the channel and also apparently it is the number 1 show now. Sasural Simar ka is also high on TRPs and now Sony is pitching in 'Beauty and Beast' adaptation for 7:30PM slot. So makes complete sense for SP to have SLB's show at 7:30 so that they can grab some market share there. Mostly once the SLB's show is stable I expect changes in 8/8:30 slot. Rest all of the slots SNS, DABH, YRK, PKDH and Veera are slot leaders so once the 7:30 - 9PM slot is set and SP gets the upmarket share, I doubt they will tinker any of them and try to get new shows in.

Like Sandy says the long running shows pay as cashcows for the channel/PH and so they are not readily removed but once they reach the end of their shelf life they will die the gradual death. I don't see YRK and SNS being on air beyond mid of this year. And also content is what we intelligent audience look for. For the channels and the PH they want dumb audience who would tune in day-in/day-off even when it is the same story that is going to be dished out in every serial and those people are the ones who get the TRPs for the channel thereby revenue from the advertisers. So as long as the channel is getting revenue and PH is getting moolah no one is bothered about content.

      Delete
    13. Sandy,
Just today I read that news of Big B wanting to produce/act in a daily show on TV ... this after SLB coming in ... hmm, seems like what my husband said the other day is correct ... BW is slowly waking up to the potential of TV in India. For potential, read moolah ... because that is of course the prime interest. What is interesting is that if you have these big names coming in, who will work on their own terms, not that of the channels ... could that herald a change in TV programming? Or will they also fall prey to the lure of big bucks and TRP's? I think - or rather, hope ... that with big names coming in, content on TV might undergo some change, if there are people willing to experiment.

Content is hardly the first thing on channels' minds ... yes and no. I remember this argument came up somewhere (forget here or where) at the time when SGP and Maryada were also on air. If you look at it, IPK, SGP and Maryada were all experiments in their own way - IPK was the first attempt at a pure love story minus saas bahu drama on a GEC (they tried saas bahu with Mami, ironically that was the only thing which didn't work!) ... SGP was a romcom/sitcom, on the lines of the old Dekh Bhai Dekh ... and Maryada was an attempt at showing some serious issues like molestation and homosexuality. So I have to give credit to SP that they HAVE tried to experiment to some degree. They play it safe with some shows, and then try to experiment with a few.
I can comment only on these shows, because I watched them ... and I watched them because they were different from the rest:)

I can't say the same for other channels - but mostly because I haven't watched them so much. Colors tried BV, and stuck to giving social messages through it for a long time, but I don't know about the rest of their shows, since I haven't watched.
Sony tried the YRF format of time limited shows - they met with little success - I wonder if digitization was available then, would TRP's have been different for those shows? At least it might have shown a rural-urban divide, because YRF shows were oriented towards an urban audience.
I don't think Zee has experimented much at all ... that is one channel stuck in the same old rut. Although with PV, they've tried to show women's remarriage, but lost the message in the same old saas bahu and family drama.

    14. My two pence,

Channels will go the tried tested route...why fix something if it ain't broken? Yes, there is a section of audience that is looking at characterisation, realism and content but people at large probably don't really bother about these things...Many would be fine just watching twists and turns in tales, logic, sensibilities be damned.

Let me put it this way...SP uses a nayi soch platform but even they will accept that whatever soch they peddle (not that they peddle too much of it!!) it would have to be in keeping with larger sensibilities...I accept that for TV in India to mirror or depict what is changing in society will have to come with the knowledge that they cannot be very radical in what they portray becos the change hasn't embraced a larger audience...In that sense, i still feel SP is doing a better job than others (my knowledge of other channels is ofc poor) DABH despite the treatment of the theme, is still a Look-ahead serial.

Agreed, a spouse lacking courage of conviction is a huge setback and that it why the hero of DABH comes across as a wimp but the truth is for many women, the very fact that she has her husband's tacit support in her endeavours is an equally big thing...I somehow see DABH in that mould..(it has the usual constraints, going a circuitous route to make a point, rendering the hero helpless and the insufferable sagas in between) but somewhere it is still making an important point on education..for me thats the message..that a woman wants to pursue a career after marriage in a traditional setup is only a byproduct.

So for every "progessive" intentioned thot, they will have to cater to the usual run-of-the mill captive audience...who are okay to just slice of life in various settings amidst the achars and dhoklas etc

Coming to the point of themes in serials...frankly if u have a message, u have to deliver within a span of time....so what do u after that?
Supposing PV was about remarriage, the message was delivered with the remarriage so then the serial can only continue along tried-tested lines of saas-bahu sagas. However, channels would be foolish to let their cashcow being killed simply becos they have nothing further to peddle so they continue in what i call the the YRKHH vein...becos there is always something to show in slice of life, however hashed and re-hashed it may be...there will always be a wedding, festival, problem, MU, in a family setup.....and so it goes on until the audience just tires of it or chooses a more thrilling alternative in the timeslot.

      Delete
    15. I agree with you, Rekhs ... social messages are done, but then what? Can point to BV, DABH and PV ... representing all three channels ... they made their statement, but they still have to provide ongoing entertainment. So the same tracks again and again ...

Again Maryada as an example ... they showed homosexuality in a very careful way, very accurate, tried to dispel myths ... then the actor said, okay, my job is done, there's nothing more to show on this ... and he left the show. The last track was to expose the molester ... they did that and then wound up by showing all four women moving on.

So I guess it comes back to content and themes ... a sitcom or family drama can be dragged for a long time, maybe even a few years ... the TV audience just gets used to seeing that particular family/families in their drawing room every evening ... it becomes a habit, like having daal sabzi every day :) Once in a while, you have some fancy khana, the rest of the time, it's normal daily diet. And that will happen if shows are dailies. You can't expect high points or major literature to be churned out on a daily soap ... it will be mind numbing idiotic stuff, with occasional points of interest.

So either accept that ... or go for limited edition soaps - which could be either weekly/biweekly soaps ... or daily soaps with a limited time frame, decided from the start. Which is actually easier said than done ... because it takes time to build up attachment to a daily TV show and the characters, plus the investment ... makers would want a soap to go on for at least a year or so at least.

My ideal time frame would be between 1-2 years, seeing that I was ready for IPK to go on for at least another few months ... but I was happy for MJHT to wind up when it did. I don't think you can stretch any storyline longer than that. Beyond that, it's just habit ... and if you make shows with a definite storyline in mind, then it has to have a beginning, middle and end. YRKKH and SNS show life in a household ... that can go on forever ... there are always more problems to show ...

Friends went on for ten years, because they showed the friends moving from young adults starting off life, to falling in love, affairs, marrying, the works ... of course, Friends was weekly and seasonal ... so much easier. Downton Abbey is in its third season and it's still going strong ...

    1. I LOVED what Sanaya said about her dad ... I think every girl's first Valentine is her father .. and for every hubby, measuring up to his wife's father is the biggest challenge ... I know it is for mine!

Today is a day for reminiscences .. my first trip to a disco (as night clubs were called those days) was with my parents, and my first dance partner was my dad ... he was a fab dancer and we did a jive/jitterbug on the dance floor ... after a while, everyone stopped to watch us, he was sooo good! I was just following him!

Also loved the way Sanaya kept the tedha heart for herself and the better one for her Valentine ... these little gestures which come so naturally to her, say SO much about what she is like as a person ... such a completely giving, generous nature. She's mentioned before that she was a tomboy and never had a Valentine for years ... the guys in her life must have been totally blind! But can understand why ... she is very straightforward and frank, she is what she is, no hidden agendas for her. Most guys are like that, while girls can be very catty and malicious ... which apparently, she cannot.

    2. Thanks, Nandini.

      Dia,

" She's mentioned before that she was a tomboy and never had a Valentine for years"

      He he...

Explains why Barun had to be reminded she was a girl...she is so easy to handle, he'd have considered her a guy.

Like Sanaya herself said once...he treats her like a younger brother!

    3. *ROFL* Su ... stop making excuses for him! Just shows he's as blind as the rest! Though, yep, he treats her like a younger brother all right!

I remember an interview with SRK/Kajol about their chemistry soon after DDLJ, where the two of them seemed to have exactly that same carefree friendship. Seems that's what helps with the chemistry - when you are really good friends offscreen too.

No wonder she didn't like doing scenes with a BD ... especially one who just stared blankly at her while she tried to emote ... must have been really uncomfortable!

  12. Veera today brought back memories of childhood ... one of the staunchest and most unbreakable rules between my brother and me ... divide and share. We never, either of us, ate any treat alone ... we always shared. So much so that when he went for a school interview, the teacher offered him a sweet, and he asked for two ... the teacher asked him why, he said, one for his sister, the teacher refused, and he quietly put the first one back. And the habit persists to this day ...
Loved the episode again ... love the bro-sis bond. And liking Nihal more and more ... now who is he? He's slowly stepping up to take a bigger role in the lives of Ratan-Ranveera.

    I watched Wednesday's epi..and I AM IMPRESSED!

    This is GH's googli!

If RK is a villain, as I understand right now, HATS OFF to GH for sticking with teh story.

Now, I know why I could NEVER MAKE sense of RK...he was not supposed to make sense...he was too tame all of a sudden...and inspite of that seemed to fall for Dipali's track...what can I say?

    MB is back for me.
RK makes perfect sense because all of this was acting...he is a dark hero..DARKER than ASR. And kudos to teh channel and writer for sticking with their story...

    Did any one notice this?

    THE GLYCERINE TANKER IS EMPTY!!!!!

    FINALLY!!!

Madhu does not have ONE drop of tear in her eyes as she stares expressionles...I take this as a very good sign.

So, as I understand the story so far...

Madhu: Has had all the growth in character.
From a simple middle class girl who believed in love...she has grown to this woman who has been betrayed TWICE in love...by two different men. And if after the first, she still believed in love..the second has made her in to a non- believer (hopefully) like RK himself.

RK: Is exactly where he was when the tale started. There is no growth or regression in is character...he is the same.

So, how will Padmini's curse come into play?

RK will realise after some time that, indeed he had loved Madhu...by the time he realises it, Madhu will not believe in love at all....
    The tables will be turned!

    Aise thadpegaaa tu....

I will be so happy if they go this route...THIS IS THE STORY THAT WAS PROMISED!

    1. Su,

Raghuvir Shekawat who writes for Veera is the writer for this show. The dialogues for the show were always superlative. All the episodes for the last one week have been excellent and VD and DD have done a superb job in portraying their characters.

I am still confused about RK. If he is really on this revenge path for the four slaps, why is he not equally if not more vindictive with Dipali and his mom? Dipali had betrayed him and he tolerates her in the same house for so many years? (his being sarky is not that big a punishment) If he has had no character growth, why is he addressing his mom as Maa even now instead of as the woman who gave birth to him? Why did he not retaliate when Pads was on the curse giving spree but meekly turned around, as though he too felt he deserved those curses? There are so many loopholes to this revenge theory despite the near convincing explanation he gave Madhu. Some of them are given below:

-He hid the fact that Mallik was the one who attacked him. Had the police not come across the chain and had it not been for Dipali's insistence to get to the bottom of this, this would have remained a secret from Madhu. He could not have predicted that the events would go this way. If it had not, he could not have got brownie points from her for his secrecy. So why would he go to such great lengths and risk another attack?

-Why would he get Pads and Shammo married when Madhu clearly was not in favour of it in the beginning? What does he gain out of this? In fact by 'interfering'in this matter, he ended up getting slapped by Pads. If it was to impress Madhu, the girl was sufficiently impressed with him. He needn't have gone through such lengths. His out of the way help to prop up her sister's career is also strange. Madhu had virtually forgotten he was instrumental in ruining it in the first place. So why not let sleeping dogs lie?

-Why did he patch up with his mom? Madhu was content with his reluctant tolerance of her. She least expected that he would go to the lengths he did (laying his head on his mom's lap etc).

In short he seems to have gone trhough great lengths to fool a girl who was already blindly in love with him and would have done anything for him.

    2. Opti,
I am so excited about this RK now.

      Why Madhu?

Because she did it in public.
What happened with Dipali was in private- there was no public uproar over it...she broke his heart...and he is thankful for the lesson she repeated for him. The first lesson, his mother had taught him...so, he does not feel the need to get back at them. They are his teachers in a way...and he has no respect or any feelings for them.

Dipali especially, she is only an insect and he is not going to waste his precious time on her...she has only taunted him and ends up making a fool of herself in front of him...Dipali dies as a woman every day in front of him by openly pining and getting refused...feeds his ego. He is getting his revenge when she cannot keep away from him.

His mom: I am not sure if that was part of the acting or he truly felt for his mom...I guess we'll know soon. I don't have a problem with him forgiving her, keeping Madhu as an instrument that led him to his mother...that again is a part of his revenge...you gave me something in return for the pain I am giving you.

'get Pads and Shammo married': All part of the act...winning her trust..so the fall would be that much more painful...he took her HIGHER AND HIGHER and let her fall... the difference between falling from the first floor and the tenth floor...because that was the indignation and shame those 4 slaps got him...

I kept wondering...why is there no smooth transition?
Like, if this was a love story, where is the chemistry... at the colors new year show...the chemistry was good, but absent in the show...

If you remember, I mentioned once about how RK feigned sleep when Madhu came near him as he was sleeping on the couch...that was the time of moony Madhu..after the coat dance...he knew she was having feelings for him...I think that is when he planned this revenge on a larger scale. After all, he had not enticed her, she had fallen...and now he'd teach the missy a lesson she would never forget...an important lesson someone had taught him. (Consider it his ehsaan or his revenge)

And there was no introspection for RK...all we got was this guy blasting her for keeping KC fast one day (and even there he was whipping her: 'so now you want to keep a fast for your chaar phere waala husband), and proclaiming his love the next day...

Even in the latest village track...something was amiss for me. RK was unemotional...and it did not look like just a part of his personality...I don't know if I am right here, since I have skipped a massive chunk of what did not make sense to me...I REALLY hope RK is a villain. I want him to be that.

Can you imagine how sweet this revenge is going to be...if he is left pining for her...and she refuses to believe in that nonsense called love? Cherry on top if there is an admirer waiting for her, who RK KNOWS spells disaster for any woman, and Madhu brushes his warning off with a 'who believes in love, any way?'

As you can see, I am excited...

The problem is, they should not have brought Balraaj now, with the sholay scene and all.
It looks odd that he had his ambulance moment of losing Madhu, yet chose to ignore it and went ahead with revenge. I can explain it away as RK's slow realisation (he is a non- believer), I don't know about the rest of fandom.

Hey, I really hope that tanker is empty, if so...THANK YOU for emptying it, RK!

      Delete
    3. Su,

The problem with this track is that if RK is really taking this sick revenge on a woman to whom he owes his life (may be he may think he has already paid back by saving her life, although he was instrumental in getting the nemesis back in her life in the first place), there can never be a love story between the two. RK will have to keep pining till the end. That is not what is going to happen in the show because the producer says RK is the hero (nopt anti-hero) and theirs is a love story between the two. Now that makes this more undigestable.

On the other hand if he is faking it, which he still could, considering the inconsistencies (there is still no explanation for his hiding Mallik's attack or his moon gazing because she asked him to, even though she wasn't around to see him listen to her), he has to have a good enough reason for all the humiliation. If he has a lame excuse, again it is going to become undigestable.

So right now I am sort of sitting on the fence. I have to admit though that the track has brought out some tremendous performances by both VD and DD.

      Delete
    4. Opti,
He he..Ofcourse, he is the hero. The producer does not have to clarify it.

This moon gazing thing, I did not see...that's why I know my reading might be wrong...because I have not seen teh entire thing. I am just pointing out the things that did not make sense back then, but now starts to make sense...

Think of it as love story between a hired assassin and the princess he was hired to kill. He might even have made one or two failed attempts, and even pretended to be in love with her to gain her confidence...and she might even have saved his life by fluke...but he is one track minded..he was sent to kill her...he must do his duty...

RK stopped believing in love...and currently believes himself uncapable of loving anyone at all...along came Madhu who insulted him and assaulted his ego...he was ruthless in his response. But he had made a deal...that this marriage was not permanent...and he had not asked her to fall in love with him...if the moth got attracted to the flame, whose fault is it? Madhu shouild have known she is playing with fire...but she was careless, she got attracted to the light and forgot the heat.

If you think from RK's POV, he is even doing her favour by letting her go...he can never love her the way she wants. He is letting her go, so that she can find her love...but in the process, he gets his revenge too, which is indeed, his only motive.

(HIding Mallik's attack: RK is not malicious. In a way, he knows he deserved it...he is only fair to Shamsher there...he was the reason Malik got bedridden and that was how he blackmailed madhu...even though he had not engineered it, he had milked it...to his full advantage. A father's reaction to his daughter's ruin...RK can understand it, and he had even confronted him with it..things had been cleared between the two guys (if I remember right). I don't think that was an act...that was just his sense of justice. They had come to a truce.

      'The problem with this track':
You are calling it a track? If things are the way I am seeing it, it is a turning point in the story..the Madhu before and after...there is so much power in the story if they decide to make RK dark at this point.

I definitely don't want him coming out with an excuse...even if there is a theory that he fears his step dad will finish off Madhu...it is too weak for RK, considering how heart broken Madhu is right now.

Caught the last five minutes of yesterday...that poster saying Ahankaar..I hope it is true. There is so much of Madhu we are going to see now...even her tears are drying ...where there was a waterfall before, there is only a narrow trickle drying up...(I am serious...there is less glycerine now.)

' I have to admit though that the track has brought out some tremendous performances by both VD and DD.':
I agree with you whole heartedly...DD is rocking (I think she should just NOT DO COMEDY, she is an excellent actress otherwise), even Deedu was acting well.

What is bittooji up to nowadays?
How is Malik going to react?

      Delete
    5. Ah! I have one more mad theory, since MB seems to have captured my imagination.

That scene where he almost lost Madhu...he would have decided that love was not worth the turmoil he felt at that moment...and he would have rejected 'the possibility of love'...and when RK rejects some thing, he does it in HIS style...his ahankaar...and he does it in a style that satisfies his ego (revenge) as well as makes sure that thing called love does not come calling back again (he does not want Madhu to even doubt that there might have been a possibility.)

That court scene where Madhu gives that Bhaashan...there is an unreadable look in RK's eyes...I think the feelings are there all the time and he is aware of it; he does not want the baggage that comes with loving someone...fearing for someone...plus, his ahankaar tells him he writes his destiny...he can will himself to forget her. (Could explain whatever moon- gazing he has done or will do from time to time. )

God! After all this, if it is just going to be a track for two weeks...LOL at myself...

    8. Su,

If he is a man with such a great sense of justice that he lets off the man who attacked him, not once but three times, just because he was doing it for his daughter and he felt it was only fair for he himself had hurt him in the past, then he should have had the same sense of fairness for the four slaps. After all Madhu was only retaliating for the havoc he wreaked in her life. Where is his sense of justice then? See anyway you look st it RK's behaviour is full of contradictions - whetehr he is faking it or he is not. The single point agenda of ruining only Madhu but making up with everyone else seems fishy to me just as going trhough the lengths he did to push Madhu away from him, if he really did love her. I guess we'll just have to wait for the story to unfold.

Today they showed that the man has really made up with his mom - a woman he disrespected and humiliated for over 16 years and all because Madhu had drove a few bitter truths. Loved the way his mom questioned his actions and the guy could not face up to it. Especially liked the scene where she went about breaking things like he did and the surprised look on his face. A taste of his own medicine indeed.

The guy is already missing his Madhu real bad. His trusted right hand man seems to have put in his papers. RK is going to be a very lonely man indeed.

I'm liking the high powered drama. Although I am sad that the only intelligent and witty hero of hindi soaps has been reduced to this, the powere packed performances are keeping me hooked.

By the way, I've restarted watching QH since the doll factory started and it is intriguing. They shamelessly copied teri meri in the show. Is it to show how pale this couple is in comparison to Arshi? Their attraction scenes are so contrived. And why is KSG not shaving. He looks sick (really and figuratively). Surbhi does need to tone down her makeup. She looks like a ghost.

      Delete
    9. By the way, if Bittuji really put in his papers, I think he may encourage Madhu to enter the film industry to teach his ex-chief a lesson. He may become her agent and get her entry into bollywood. The show is surely moving in the direction of Madhu entering the filmdom. Faking or no faking. RK has changed her world forever.

    10. Rekh,
*hugs* back at you. You faithfully and patiently read all the rubbish that I write! God Bless You!

      Dia,

Sigh...optimism...in this case, I want Madhu to go full throttle...to do the justice that was denied Khushi because a Barun Sobti decided to put down his papers...

Seriously, at least a bit of the fire you'll see in Madhu belongs to the Khushi who retaliates when ASR leaves her waiting at the mandap. (Though Madhu has a greater reason, so she will lash out on a stronger scale.)

      Opti,

Teri Meri...Gul is not foolish to show there is magic where there is no passion yet. Teri meri in IPK was at a phase when the couple was ready for a go- ahead. They were ripe.

      Zoya and Asad are not.

Yesterday I was wondering even about THE RELEVANCE of the song to this couple right now...they have not reached that equation. In fact, they are nowhere near that. Asad has not been blown away by her beauty, except for that introduction scene...yet he knows she is important to him..NO...TM here was in a different context...that was not even the song that was shown in the precap...I wonder why they changed. Do they have copyright issues with these songs?

Personally, didn't mind TM here...I know it is sacrilege...but coming from the same team...and this was totally in a diff context from the 2 TMs in IPK. This was private..and the couple is not ready to face their feelings...Zoya is vaguely aware and Asad seems to have figured it all out...it is best to keep away from her...thats why he stopped the song with 'this is how people dance'..to nullify any feelings he may have displayed...ASR was not trying to mask his feelings...he went right after Khushi after TM.

KSG will shave soon...has already done that apparently.

Attraction scenes look contrived...I'd call it awkward...unlike Arhi who seemed to behave like they had this right to be in each other's arms every time RV played... Zoya jerks out of the mitwas too soon...they are a different couple...try not to compare. I feel the chemistry will be there when they want to show it...I saw it in lag jaa gale...which had more thought gone in to its making...

And i'd be foolish to expect the kind of chemistry Arhi had...that was special ONLY TO them...I doubt Gul will ever take Asad and Zoya to that level of physical closeness...Sarun chemistry made Gul's team explore a lot...that level of chemistry is impossible to copy, I feel.

    11. On MB:

RK is behaving exactly as I expect him to...he will take his time, I feel, and by then Madhu would have made up her mind to move on...(I thought he was sincere about forgiving his mom)

'Then he should have had the same sense of fairness for the four slaps. After all Madhu was only retaliating for the havoc he wreaked in her life.':

I feel it is different for him.
The guy has no love for his life... if he dies for a noble cause, let it be...it is his ahankaar that he can see nobility even in his enemy's (Malik's) actions.

When it comes to Madhu, ego takes over. She dared to SLAP HIM IN PUBLIC. If RK has to live, he wants to live with his dignity intact...he will not tolerate any slur on that....

Actually, what was going on in the village track?
He felt slighted that they gave her more respect or something?

He should have been proud that they welcomed Madhu more than him...did that happen? Like I said, I have not watched it carefully, but certain things looked out of place in a love story...could have been th estory, could have ben the careless watching...but THIS IS EXACTLY THE TWIST I'D EXPECT FROM GH.

Bittooji becoming Madu's secretary...could happen...either in the near future, or much later if Bittooji patches up with RK and is sent off as Madhu's body guard later on-RK's most trusted servant... Who knows?

It could be many things...the way he threw the pillows in one go after remembering her face...I could see only pride and arrogance.

    12. Su,

On QH: My point is that the song was totally out of place and did not fit Azad's character of being this traditional muslim man. He did not come across as a character who would indulge in a close dance with a girl, at least not yet. And yes, their trips and falls are awkward to say the least. As to the level of chemistry between Azad and Zoya, yes it is peeka compared to Arshi. It isn't that this PH got the chem right only for Arshi. Maaneet had excellent chemistry too. There are just some couples like Arshi and Maaneet who are magical. I am increasingly finding Rishabala attractive, even with all the turmoil now.

Yesterday's episode showed he is already feeling the absence of Madhu. Realisation of the maginitude seems to already dawn on him. He is unable to sleep. He gets up calling out to her. Tea made by his servants tastes bitter. His mother's words of how much Madhu had done for him, accepting him with all his faults and how wrong he had been to her are driving in to his heart, too close for comfort, that he reacts violently to try negate his feelings of guilt. There is no sense of jubilation at his victory over Madhu. Whether he was faking his love or faking his hate, RK is not the same again and he knows it.

Madhu on the other hand has already decided to move on, no matter how difficult it is. Yes, she has to shut of memories of the past till she reaches a point where they do not matter but she is holding up much better than anyone expected. Maybe RK knew Madhu was resilient enough to face his fury, the reason why he went ahead with this plot.

One thing is for sure. This track has ruined RK's character consistency which was the hallmark of the show till recently. They had shown a steady progression in his character. Now with this twist, his bahaviour whether he fake his hate or he faked his love cannot be fully explained. I wouldn't put too much weight on the village track to decipher RK because by then they had already decided to introduce the twist and deliberately brought in inscrutability in RK's expressions and actions to justify the twist.

If they wanted to bring this twist of a vengeful RK they should not have shown scenes where he was acting lovelorn even when Madhu wasn't around. If he had fallen for her unconsiously, then given the guy's arrogance, he should have been shown to snap out of it in disgust. If they wanted to maintain the suspense of his character, they should have only concentrated on showing RK displaying his lovey dovey self in Madhu's presence. There was enough actions happening around, viewers would not have noticed that RK's feelings when alone were not being shown explicitly.

This is what irks me in these dailybshows. They can have any twisted plots. I have no problem with that but the story should have consistency and should not appear like the writers are making it up as they go along. I wouldn't be surprised if they play down RK's arrogance and have a guilt ridden RK very soon (glimpses were already shown in today's episode), refraining from further darkening of their hero, going by the latest trps. The show's trps have dropped sharply in the twist week. Don't know how much attention colors gives to trps.

    14. QH ... Gul is running out of ideas ... or else she really has very limited creativity. Not just talking about the dance ... although that was quite idiotic of her, I have to say. Su, I disagree with you ... is Gul really that foolish? Yes, she is ... seriously, why choose Teri Meri?! It was neither a good fit to the situation nor to the emotions ... just inviting comparison - very unfavorably too! The Arshi picturization was like something out of a dream, and this was totally pheeka even without the comparison - with the comparison, it was nowhere!!! Just thrown in as a sop to viewers asking for romance on V Day! And since Gul madam did ask for comparison by using it, I have to add that from this sequence, it appears that Surbhi cannot dance, she is worse than Barun! Her posturing is so stiff, in comparison to Sanaya, whose limbs are so fluid. And KSG is not a great dancer either, so while Sanaya covered for Barun, KSG couldn't compensate for Surbhi at all. The dance was just a series of postures for hyperventilating teens. Completely stupid, in my view. And agree with Opti, for Asad, a man of such strict morals and Islamic values about how women should behave and dress and all the rest, this showed him as totally hypocritical ...

More than that, I was annoyed that Asad did not apologize for the slap ... that was a good opportunity for him to say sorry, that he did not mean to hit her. There as well as the next day in the car. I think Gul lost a golden opportunity there to redeem her hero, especially in terms of the social responsibility we were talking about.

By the way, Zoya is stupid! Sorry, I CANNOT warm up to her ... either the character is silly, or Surbhi is playing her REALLY badly! Every time she starts jabbering in that high pitched voice of hers, I want to shut her up!

I was talking more about lack of creativity in the Raziya-Badi Bi scenes - a direct copy of the Shyam-Babuji scenes, both situation and treatment. I fully expect that sooner or later, Badi Bi will be incapacitated like Babuji was. The precap surprised me only because I didn't expect it to happen so soon.

    15. Dia/Su,

Never watched QH till now except in passing glances but after reading Su's post I went back and sat through the episode albeit a fast forward one and absolutely agree with Dia. Gul has no creativity.

I seriously couldn't understand why on all the songs in bollywood, she choose TM for Asad - Zoya given that TM has now been redefined as Arnav-Khushi song so much that people remember it as AK's song from IPK and no longer associate it with Salman - Kareena. And the first TM on Payash Sangeet was magical. Barun can't dance but the choreography was absolute treat and his lifts and dance steps even though they were very few just electrified the atmosphere and the editing was too good. At that point both Arnav - Khushi had lot of Rabba ve moments and after the dance ends, the way Khushi clutches her hand over her heart(for her dhak dhak) and she turns and looks over to Arnav and both kind of rewind their journey together - it was kind of like they knew before and after this dance that they were meant to be together. They may have felt this before but this was the time both felt something extra-ordinary happen. That was magical. I remember when I first saw this dance on my TV screen and in the end Rabba Ve tune comes,I was just sitting like that because it was that magical. My husband openly admitted that these 2 actors(BS-SI) really have awesome chemisty and this is coming from a guy who abhors Indian TV serials. Having created such magic that it drew non-believers too and got praise, it was utterly stupid of Gul to use the same song on Asad and Zoya.

    16. cont post 2

First because neither Asad and Zoya have progressed that far in their relationship and it is ridiculous to see Asad break into a song dance sequence that too with someone he hated and slapped few days back. One thing I am observing is that Gul never pays any attention to redemption of the hero - I don't think Asad has apologized to slapping Zoya and neither did he apologize for the harsh words about her mother. Compare this to the IPK where Arnav actually practices to say sorry. Somehow Arnav's character was very consistent up until the holi sequences and here Asad's characterization is becoming watered down and this is just 3 months into the show. what is the hurry. Why can't Gul close off the loops and go on - Like Asad could have said, I am really sorry that I hit too and would like to apologize and why the hell can't he finish off his dialogue. And Surbhi can't act - I don't know if it is that her lines are written bad or she basically can't show the minute changes in her voice modulation. Like she is all chirpy when she is talking to Asad and also when she renders her own sher(poetry) a little OTT to me but may be it is her character but when Asad comes near and she remembers the slap, there is no hurt, no feelings absolutely in her. Compare this to Sanaya and Khushi. She can be OTT but when she is hurt she shows it on her face - especially on the bridge when the truth of the marriage is disclosed to her. The confrontation is too good and the way Khushi fights for herself and then Arnav reminds her of the Terrace, for a moment Khushi doesn't remember it but then the way she comes back shows her hurt - hurt that inspite of her telling her husband the truth he is choosing to believe what he wants to believe and is not believing her. That is acting. I didn't understand Zoya OTT at one moment and then remembering the slap the next and then the dance. It was not a dance per se. Just Asad was standing there and turning/twisting around Zoya - Surbhi actually was wooden in the movements and neither was KSG very good. Barun didn't keep up his grooming towards the end but yaha toh KSG is looking actually sick literally and that too within 3 months of the show starting. Kuch toh gadbhad hai with 4Lions if the lead is not looking good that too for a V-day Dance sequence. And in the end I would have loved if Asad had vocally said Sorry to Zoya for hurting her. Just would have kept the male character a little better, IMO.

And the Badi bi and the vamp(sorry don't know her name) sequence was ditto Shashi - Shyam sequence. Gul really needs to think more if she wants to work on this serial. Just cut and paste is not going to work her and neither will lather-rinse-repeat formula. And at the same time, 4Lions need to work on other aspects of the show - editing, lighting and sound. They were not upto mark for me - maybe because I saw this episode after watching Veera and in Veera, the team is really doing a brilliant job of putting pind(rural punjab) on screen.

"If he had fallen for her unconsiously, then given the guy's arrogance, he should have been shown to snap out of it in disgust."

Yes, this was the point I was making back then also during the KC track in MB...theer was never an introspection of RK...it was all important if they were showing he had fallen for her.
For me, one minute he was rude to her and the next day he decided to take her out on a date...it should have come with an introspection if he was really in love...because WE HAD MADHU'S. RK's was missing, because it was never there, I feel. His INTROSPECTION IS JUST COMING UP.

Like I said, he is attracted to her...but his ego gets the better of him MOST OF THE TIMES...and so he has refused to process it that a MERE GIRL has actually changed his life. Poor Guy!

      On QH:

      Dia,
One thing we have to keep in mind is...Gul and the team have moved on. Only the vieweres are stuck woith Arhi.

Gul does not know the impact Arhi still has on teh vieweres, I think...had she known, she wouldn't have attemped to get ASR killed.

The CREATIVES SIMPLY DON'T UNDERSTAND to what extent their creation has captivated us. GUL moves on from a Geet to IPK leaving frustrated fans behind...and from IPK to QH leaving another set of frustrated fans behind. There was an uproar in the QH forum on the use of Arhi's song.

And it took me completely by surprise...for some time I was staring on to the screen waiting for the other song to come...and then, TM ended..and I was...that was it?

BUt when I watched it second time, I realised the song fits all couples who are on the verge of separation...physically and emotionally.

      Opti,
You talked about a Muslim guy not launching into a dance like this.

That is where I appreciate the smooth transition in to the song... Asad is not ASR. And therefore, he does not embark on a sensuous dance...

      How did the dance start?

Zoya moves away frightened, she fears for a second that he might slap her again.
Asad apologises again...but there are tears in her eyes even as she says, 'it is ok, Mr. Khan'...he agrees to her bet and starts the dance as an apology- it is kind of a making it up to her thing- no arrogance, no sensuous appeal...as the dance progresses, he cannot really hide his feelings, it might have shown in some of his moves...so, how does he end the dance?

'This is how people dance, Ms. Farooqui.' (Ref to her dancing on the sofa thing, as well as covering up his feelings.)

And Zoya is left all alone in the gust of wind...she was aware of his closeness during lag jaa gale, today she is aware of her response to him. And for the first time, Zoya does NOT GET THE LAST WORD IN their convo...usually, she ends their Mitwa movements with, 'what's wrong with you, Mr. Khan?'

I have no clue if Surbhi is a good dancer or not...I was not expecting a sequence there...unlike with Arhi in that dilli mein Baali dance....where all hidden passions came out in front. The equation is not the same.
Asad will not reveal his passion like Arnav. He will fight it...NOT BECAUSE the very thought of love assaults his ego, but he fears what HIS love can do to Zoya..chip off the old block, it seems.

    18. Dia,
'More than that, I was annoyed that Asad did not apologize for the slap ... that was a good opportunity for him to say sorry, that he did not mean to hit her. There as well as the next day in the car. I think Gul lost a golden opportunity there to redeem her hero, especially in terms of the social responsibility we were talking about.'

Seriously, I am left wondering HOW MANY TIMES GUL WILL MAKE THIS GUY APOLOGISE?

He apologised once in her bedroom...she sent him out.

He apologised with teh cofee...she took it as a peace offering.
Zoya is not as strong as she seems...she fears his TEMPER and feels he might strike her again in anger...
so he apologises a third time.

And in the car...he is left feeling so bad, and the girl refuses to even acknowledge his regret with a 'I am a strong girl'!

LOL. This slap story has not ended it seems. At least not till that bandage comes off her hand.

To tell the truth, all of Gul's heroines irritate me.
It took me some time to warm up to Khushi.
Zoya was easier, because she is a clown...a lovable one..and she continues to be... You feel irritated with her, you are not alone. Asad is with you and I think half the QH fans are with him.

To see what he sees in her...I guess you have to be engrossed in the tale. You don't spend 1/10 the time you spent on Arhi with this couple...so, they will appear a little strange, I guess.

I like Zoya because she is a free spirit. She is not tied down by anything at all...she speaks her mind as she pleases, because she was brought up in a culture like that.

I guess when Zoya says, 'Allah Miyaan, what is wrong with this country?', it is only fair that the country asks her back, 'Allah Miyan! What is wrong with you, Ms. Farooqui?' *wink*

      Raziya- badi bi...

I was thinking that Raziya is not actually trying to kill Badi Bi...she is just getting her to go MAD...and she is going to succeed soon, I think. She is playing mind games with her...pushing her into the pool is not going to do anything at all...I think she is trying to get Badi Bi to suspect that her mind is playing games on her...Rashid and Shireen already believe that.

    19. Su,

*ROFL* Sometimes I think you argue for the sake of arguing :)))

Gul still doesn't know the impact Arhi had on the viewers? Her show got shut down because of them, she and/or her agents troll all the online forums and change tracks according to viewer demands, 4 Lions presented an interview with Sanaya TWO MONTHS after the show has ended, which got more responses than any of their recent posts has done, Nishi Verma came on the IPK forum to justify using Teri Meri right after the episode last night ... sorry, cannot believe that one at all. If she doesn't still know the impact, she is even more foolish than I thought.

As for getting ASR killed ... when her lead actor walked out, and the channel was hell bent on keeping the show on air, what choices did she realistically have? Either a new actor as ASR, or a new character - SHE HAD NO OTHER CHOICE. And with the Arhi remarriage, Arhi story was effectively over - whether that was SP's decision or Gul's, I don't know, but that spelled THE END for Arhi. ASR's death and a new character was therefore the ONLY way forward for Gul, AS LONG AS SP wanted the show on air. PH had no power to shut the show, only SP did.

Regarding Zoya ... I thought you said you liked Gul's heroines :P
There is a big difference between speaking one's mind as one pleases, and being stupid. Same way that there is a difference between chirpy and bubbly, and stupid - another one not many cv's have managed to grasp. Although Khushi and Geet were not stupid to start with, they became silly only much later. And again, that's where the acting comes in ... I haven't been impressed with Surbhi in any scene so far, comic, tragic or emotional ... and I HAVE seen a few. And if an actor fails to draw in an uninterested viewer, then he/she has failed in her job.
I started watching DMG because of a 30 second promo of KSG, an actor totally unknown to me before that. I was irritated with Gunjan/Sanaya at the start of MJHT and STOPPED watching it because of her, and I was DRAWN BACK to MJHT because of Sanaya, again an actress totally unknown to me, in fact, I was drawn back despite disliking her initially. That is the power of ACTING - that the actors can convey what the makers want sufficiently well on screen, that they capture your attention without your even meaning to.
If Zoya manages to draw me back later, I will accept she has definitely improved ... so far, the love story is the least appealing part of QH for me.

Did Asad apologise? I haven't seen any apology. Not one which says he was wrong to strike a woman at all ... sorry for hitting her is not enough in my view ... and this follows from that talk on social responsibility we had the other day. Yes, he's sorry he hit her, he did it in the heat of the moment, and she understands that and forgives him - but a declaration that whatever his compulsions or thoughts at the moment, he should NOT have hit her, because a man does not raise his hand on a woman, regardless of circumstances. That is what I expect from GUL ... maybe not from Asad ... but from a woman producer. To clarify that a man hitting a woman is WRONG, it is not romantic or worse, justifiable under ANY circumstances. And GUL has to state, via Asad, that it will never happen again.

I agree that Raziya is not trying to kill Badi Bi ... she's playing mind games .. probably to get her declared insane, or at least make sure no one in the family believes anything she says. Again a take off from the mind games Khushi played with Shyam in the second confession :)))

    20. Su,

If the point being expressed is everyone and every POV is defensible...i guess the point has been made..By the same token...perspectives on an event will be held by people, come what may...

I saw a post by Nishi in the IF forum where she says enjoy the performance and not make any comparisons...pray may i ask why should that privilege be accorded to this aspect...if i see two dances, why should i not compare?

Like u have a perspective on why Gul attempted it, i will also put forward a perspective...say mine and it is this...

I think Gul has been credited with far greater brilliance for IPK than she deserves...yes..i too have credited her for the premise of her story, the way she presents nuanced relationships on screen..However on hearing that she attempted TM in QH...I had to conclude that only a person who had very little to do (literally and figuratively) with the magic of the first creation will attempt something like that again on a diff platform..for me it follows that someone else created that magic in IPK....I have to now conclude it may be the screenplay writers, the directors, the actors anyone except the maker (who is usually given wholesome credit for the genesis of that thot)....To me, TM in IPK was not merely beautiful becos BS_SI/ARHI performed it, it was beautiful becos the song was a culmination of a sizeable part of ARHI's journey and the song echoed it and yes, the actors lived the emotions of ARHI on screen..But Gul's actions seem to suggest that there was nothing unique in it....ah....well!

tho comparisons are odious, i would say Ramesh Sippy would never make the mistake of attempting Sholay not becos Sholay cannot be redone; it is sacrilege becos any work attempting to clone a greatly admired body of work will always fall short of expectations (objectivity is not even part of the debate)

So now i come to perspectives...i can draw two conclusions...one is that the maker does not understand the impact of his creation...(something like ur words above) and the second my perspective, the maker did not have anything to do with the magic of the creation in the first place (something like my words above)

The truth however is neither is my perspective entirely correct nor yours....so i presume it has be somewhere in the middle....Neither can u believe that G had no role to play in the build up to TM ( i don't mean the sequence per se) nor can i believe that G does not understand the impact of her creation (i don't here mean the sequence per se). So quite simply, having attempted the song for whatever reason and whatever point she wished to prove to whoever, she will have to contend with comparisons and this is not a debate that she can run away from saying don't compare(here for once the fans, actors, medium of iPK are not to blame)

    21. Dia,
      MInd games... I agree.
But it is better than all the other methods to finish off someone that I can see in the other shows..so we don't have a sholay shoot off, or a PV- snake scenario...youve got to watch that one!...

On Surbhi: YOu are not the only one, there are KSG fans out theer who are screaming to Gul to change the heroine...I am quite happy with Surbhi's growth as an actress. She is not perfect like Sanaya, but I kind of feel she fits the role nicely.

On Gul's heroines, I don't like Geet even after repeated attempts to watch it for the sake of chemistry...

Khushi plain irritated me when I saw her first in the getting locked in the booty scene...what drew me to IPK was the dialogues...that was what made me realise it was more than a typical hindi serial. And even though the chemistry and the actors were pointed out to me, I took some time to acknowledge both Sanaya and Barun...like I have always said, the person who impressed me was Hitesh Kevalya... MB has nice dialogues too...but they don't merge with the script...some times they are too loud and stand out, so I've not bothered to look up the dialogue writer there.

Zoya was easier for me, because she came after a Khushi I had begun to love... so even when she is loud and seemingly rude...I kind of see her through her hostess' eyes. And Dilshad stands up for Zoya- but she is strict where needed too. The first episode I watched of QH was epi 2 and I was simply not impressed with any one at all. I guess the tale drew me to it slowly..the scene that got me hooked on was the mitwa on the couch where Asad tries to hide Ayan. I found that typical trip and fall to be wonderfully creative.(After all how differently can you do these duppatta scenes?)

On Gul not understanding the audience...you are speaking from your POV because you wanted to see Khushi moving on...I am talking from my POV where I cannot bear to see Khushi doing TM with another guy...as a character. That way, I feel (purely from my POV) that Sanaya and Gul have not understood a part of the audience which includes me. It is easy for them to move on...because they have created it...they don't dwell on each and every scene and dissect and rewatch it like us. For them, half the fun is in the sets...for us, all the fun is in what we see on screen.

Do you think Gul came out with San interview as a peace offering? I am not sure. I felt she was doing justice to Sanaya, given she had already come out with Barun's. I did not feel that was a publicity stunt or anything.

      Delete
    22. Nishi defending TM...I have a good mind to ask her what was going on in Gul's mind when she zeroed in on TM..because all I could think was 'why?'. And the entire song played out and I was trying to read Gul's mind instead of looking at the actors. Was she trying to make a point?

On first look, it was just a Valentine's day offering...on second look (which is when I saw past the song), it was Asad's apology. If Zoya had not jerked back, expecting a slap, he would have bickered with her and shown her the door firmly. Because the slap came up and he saw her tears...he felt bad all over again...apologised again...and danced with her...that dance was spontaneous and it was a part of making it up to her- something that came from the bottom of his heart.

Will Asad come out and say that he should not have hit a girl? I hope so, but I don't expect it in the near future...till then I am hoping he will say sorry in many different ways.

What I appreciated about the dance again, was the creativity...how she had smoothly taken the transition from a tiff to an emotional moment followed by a dance...and THANKFULLY this time there was no comedy to ruin the romance at the end. Zoya was left shaken.

NIshi's answer to TM is that it is a love anthem for EVERY COUPLE nowadays.... makes me wonder if Arhi is still so special for Gul. She has clearly moved on. I wonder if Gul considers IPK her masterpiece with all the trouble she had with it...her hands were tied in the end, so I don't know if she will call it her masterpiece. I guess she drowns herself in the project that is in her hand...

Among her three heroines, who will be closest to her heart? I don't think we will ever know, but I like to think it will be Khushi...

Among the heroes...Asad?(Because she was allowed to portray him the way she wanted?)

PURELY SPECULATING...shows how jobless I am right now!
      *hugs*

    23. Very true, Rekha ... I would add that maybe this was Gul's aim in the first place :))) ... to stir up some debate in the QH forum which is pretty quiet - it is nowhere near the frenzied pace that IPKKND forum was in its hey day.
Because repeating the same song in their next show, that too so soon, in the Asad-Zoya journey, which has barely begun, MUST invite comparison. Teri Meri was played for Arhi almost 9 months into their journey, when the love story had already gone through many ups and downs, the hate was ending and the love was beginning. So it makes sense to talk about a love story which had seen those ups and down ... ek dooje se hue juda, jo ek dooje ke liye bane ... how many times had Arnav Khushi separated and then come together, by the time this was played?

In QH, it was played barely 3 months into the Asya journey, and the two have been living together for the bulk of that time ... they started with dislike and it has slowly been building upwards ... without too many twists and turns ...
A song I felt would have been better suited ... which is actually what I thought of when I heard that there was an Asya song and dance ...
Kuch khaas hai, kuch paas hai,
ek ejnabi ehsas hai ... from Fashion

      Or
Is this love, maine na jaana ...

Songs which question the feeling that is starting to emerge between Asya. Teri Meri made no sense for them. What's more, a different song was played in the precap. Which made me feel that the choice of song was either deliberate - or the choice of precap was deliberate, to delay the protests till the song actually aired. And if so, it means the makers did know there would be a reaction.

The only thing it did accomplish was that in the middle of writing this, I did a quick revisit to the Arshi Teri Meri .... nope, that magic cannot be forgotten in a hurry! :)))

    24. Su,
I think Gul will have mixed feelings for IPK ... it catapulted 4 Lions to the big league for sure ... a major hit on the biggest GEC ... but on the other hand, she couldn't tell her story the way she wanted to. And apparently the interference from Star started even before the first episode aired ... it was supposed to be even darker, but Star made them tone it down. Which is why the delay by a week in starting the show, and why even though they started shooting in April, they never had any banks.

Favorite heroes ... I think they are developing and refining their heroes with every show ... I believe Maan was supposed to have a past, which never saw the light of day ... ASR's past emerged but half-baked ... Asad's has already partly emerged, the reason for his bitterness is almost done, now it's the secret behind Rashid's betrayal which is left. So each hero is slightly more complete, for want of a better word ... then the previous one.

Favorite heroines - honestly can't say. I think Gul has modelled Zoya on herself ... a modern Muslim girl. I don't think she gave Khushi too much thought. It was the scriptwriters, the directors and the actress herself who brought Khushi to life.
Geet - the story was supposed to be totally different - it was about NRI marriages ... again hijacked by the love story, I think. I have no idea about Geet's character - everyone I knew who watched it, loved Maan :)))

Gul not understanding the audience ... no, no, I said Gul did not understand the importance of Teri Meri for the IPK audience, which means the importance of Arhi ... I would have hated it if TM was used for Khushi and a new guy ... they had to have a new song of their own if they had happened. Am with you that TM is for Arhi only. My objection to TM for Asya is not for the song per se ... it's for the fact that it was so ill-fitting to the occasion that the choice seemed deliberate.

Why did Gul do the interview with Sanaya? Peace offering ... for what? The one with Barun was definitely to clear her own name and the misconception that she was bullying him and driving him to tears and all that other nonsense. The one with Sanaya served no purpose at all actually, except that it was good to see Sanaya again :) Gul seemed quite ill at ease and lost as to what to ask or talk about ... Sanaya had to take over the conversation most of the time. Maybe just to show that she was on good terms with the cast ... sometimes I felt she wanted/expected Sanaya to blame Barun for a few things, which Sanaya carefully steered away from doing ... like using BD's for Barun's absence and the sudden end of the show and how it impacted everyone.

Again I say ... Barun has quite a few things to thank Sanaya for!

    25. I was reading the debate with Dia/Rekha and Su and I have to agree to what Rekha says. It was pretty clear that Gul was nowhere in the picture after the initial start up for the show - very evident from SI's interview and Barun's interview and it was the team of Ved Raj, GH, Arshad, Janaki, BS,SI took the show forward. When Gul had the interviews with Barun and Sanaya - she could discuss only the dori sequence and there were lot of good sequences in the show - Teej sequence, guesthouse sequence, bandage engagement,First marriage sequence, Holi sequence but she choose only to talk about Dori sequence which kind of makes me believe she was on the show only for the initial month or so. In QH she was the director for some time but here in IPK I think direction was between Nissar, LM and Arshad. I credit Gul with the concept but the team and the cast took the show to the heights she never dreamed of.

Comparisons are bound to happen especially when the song has been so popular on the leads of the previous shows. Now I can never associate Salman-Kareena on that song - It will always be ArHi for me and so is the feeling for most of the fans who saw this song. Also when ArHi danced to the song, bodyguard has been just released. So makes sense for the PH to use this song as the song and the lyrics suited ArHi story. Like Dia says, Asad-Zoya were just experiencing the feelings if we can call it and for that Teri Meri doesn't do any justice because they have not split up and come back together. ArHi both had engagements done, their engagements got broken and they had this incredible attraction towards each other so this line of TM - 'ek doosre se hue juda jab ek doosre ke liye bane' makes sense. I couldn't understand the logic of Gul using the same song on Asad-Zoya especially like Dia says - the precap for the previous episode it seems had different song(I read it on the QH forum - haven't seen the precap).

This makes me believe that Gul is doing what she did in IPK. Changing things at the last moment. Is it to avoid comparisons and avoid bashing - I am not sure. Anyway after the song airs, comparisons are bound to happen - fans take it the way they want to take it. You can't tell them not to compare.

    26. cont post 2

And also I don't believe that Gul doesn't know the impact of ArHi and the chemistry of Barun-Sanaya. Her show got closed only because of the demands for ArHi story being intact by the fans and she can't say that I don't know fans were so fanatic about ArHi.I still don't understand the reason for SI interview - It was more of Gul's intention to get her name cleared. Didn't feel like she was really reminiscing about a product that was close to her heart. Sanaya was missing IPK so much and it really came across but for Gul it was like she was there to make a point and wanted someone to back her up and just be done with. I still don't agree that killing Arnav and making Khushi move on was the only way to take the serial forward. There were lot of ways and they could have closed all the loops and could have Arnav in America - Killing Arnav and making Khushi fall in love with the murder was just mocking the love story IMO. Like Rekha says you don't touch and mock an epic product. Gul tried to do that and that is why the show got closed.

And somehow I have lost all sympathy for Gul. She is being bashed but somehow she does things that makes her loyal viewers pissed off. Like when Geet got closed she had pissed off a whole chunk of Geet viewers and she did the same when IPK closed. At this rate she will have very less viewers when she starts her 4th - 5th serial. She doesn't know how to create a brand value and how to have the audience follow her onto her different shows. She needs to take a leaf out of Rajan Shahi Director's kut. DK had a really good serial in Bidaai and to tell the truth the serial was really good much better than YRK and Amrit - Manthan but Rajan knows how to have his loyal viewers follow him when he starts another show. I know for sure I gave a chance to YRK because it was started by RS and I was following Bidaai on/off. It is another fact that the actors didn't hold it for me by their acting and still I don't like both Naitik and Akshara's acting and get put off by the gawdy clothes and over the top celebrations but there are many people who follow the serial just out of loyalty and now the serial has become a part of their life and they tune no matter what. That is how you create a brand value. Gul doesn't know how to retain her viewers across serials and unless and until she learns that, it is going to be a tough job for her when she starts new ventures. Just getting someone from PH who tries to give feelers is not going to help until and unless Gul knows what is that reason that her product is hit and how she can safeguard it and nourish it and most importantly she needs to respect fan's sentiments if she wants fans to respect her product. Blasting off an outburst letter and mocking fans and their sensibilities is not going to win her any admirers.

    27. Dia,

      replying to this

Geet - the story was supposed to be totally different - it was about NRI marriages ... again hijacked by the love story, I think. I have no idea about Geet's character - everyone I knew who watched it, loved Maan

The story in Geet was completely changed - The story was of a girl who tries to get back to the man who dumped her after marriage but once Maan-Geet became hit, there was complete turnover from the story premise. The story was altogether changed and in between she just got the M&B added by making Dev brother of Maan. And the same thing happened with IPK. May be it was because both the serials were on Star and Star interferes in their shows but I would like to think that the story in Geet got changed because of PH's own reason - Star never interfered too much with Star one products and I remember I read an interview wherein the story writer of Geet accepted that they changed the story because they got a hit chemistry as more of it was PH's decision to change the story. So for Geet I don't think it was Star one's reaction that changed the storyline rather it was PH which did come to that conclusion. For IPK I do think there was an interference from Star but Gul could have worked around with them. Somehow my gut feeling is that Gul had this idea - got the show on Star and once the show was success, she had very little hand in the product.

Gul seemed quite ill at ease and lost as to what to ask or talk about ...

This is what I mentioned in my earlier post - Gul was very uncomfortable with SI in the interview. She didn't even had any thing to discuss about apart from the dori scene. I too felt she wanted Sanaya to blame Barun for few things like using BD's and Barun's movie but Sanaya very clearly steered the conversation away and she said all things happen for good. Then Gul was completely lost. She just didn't know what else she could do.

    28. Rekh, Dia,

I was trying to look at it objectively.
No single person has ever claimed the credit for IPK’s success. Even when Gul acknowledges the popularity, she takes it as the team effort. I think the only person who loves praising himself in the team is LM .

And if you notice, one person everyone mentions is Gul...be it Sanaya (I respected you after you shouted at me...I knew how important this was for you), Barun (The character was so well written, any one could have done it.), Ved Raj (The concept is entirely Gul’s)....

Khushi- I think Gul had a major role in shaping the character, going by how she insisted on Sanaya even as every one else had rejected her. The writers and directors did justice to her vision and Sanaya breathed life in to the character.(it must have been th emost difficult- as she already says- and fulfilling character for Sanaya...no wonder she did not want to let go.)

And Gul has always spoken on behalf of her team. If you look at TM, all 3 directors who made the epic song in IPK are present here too. If Sholay is remade, Ramesh Sippy will want to remake it at a LARGER SCALE, definitely not a smaller scale....as it happened here. Yes, comparison is inevitable, but please compare the scenario also.

Can you even compare with a Khushi in a revealing saree getting embraced in Arnav’s passion on stage and a Zoya who is covered from top to bottom taken reluctantly and repentantly into a slow dance by an Asad who is shying away from his feelings.

It is the difference between 3 months and 9 months.

For us, it is the difference between IPK and QH.

I guess for the makers, it is just a love anthem.

There are people on QH forum saying the precap song did not suit the Islamic sentiments...that could be one reason for the song changing...Gul has to be careful with the community’s sentiments.

There were people who did not like Zoya questioning Allah...people who were seriously offended by that scene.

Some people are talking about the copyright issues also.

      Sarada,

I look at Gul as a person...not as a team leader who screwed up...that might be so..but I respect her for the way HER team members stand up for her.

On that interview- actually, it ended up being a ’ Barun admiring’ show again, I thought...all of you are seeing bashing, while all I could see was how Sanaya and Gul remembered the ease with which he’d get in to the character once the camera started rolling. It was about Barun more than Sanaya and they admired him first and wanted to bash him up later...the latter in very good humour. (Grr... in Barun's interview, Sanaya's name came up just once...I was so angry with both Gul and Barun for that.)

    29. oh it is so bad to come into discussions a day late..

i loved teri meri in QH. looking at the dance again, i can see that it is not the song the dance was picturised on.. the dance moves (there were only three) worked to a different beat than teri meri.. and so, i believe it when su says the song was changed at the last moment because "khuda jaane" would upset the muslim audience of that show. specifically, i think it was meant to be asad's realization song.. only a few selected lines..

she asked him to dance as part of her bet.. he went near her, she flinched.. he has a flashback of the slap scene.. he drew her into the dance as his apology. "khuda jeene ye kya huwa hai.. ki ben gayi ho tum meri khuda".. and this sudden realization makes him go away, leaving zoya.. with a heavy dose of realization on her side too. in fact, i loved the picturization.. there was no passion, there was not supposed to be.. they were two strangers, dancing together because of a bet.. but the unexpected closeness gave them both a lesson.

forget 4L using teri meri.. it was not meant to be there.

    31. Su,

I think you and I will continue to differ on Gul. I agree the whole team stands up for Gul but that shows they are ready to acknowledge her effort in their success no matter how small it may have been - be it from Sanaya/Barun/Ved. But that doesn't make Gul a good Team leader necessarily. I would see it as Gul's good luck in getting such a good team who stick with her even when they were getting bashed. It is very rare in TV industry to have these kind of people. Look at Gul's previous couple GC and DD. I have never seen them openly acknowledge Gul for the serial's success because basically they are not like Barun/Sanaya. That necessarily doesn't make GC and DD bad - it was just their perspective. BS/SI put in lot more effort for getting the characters right and even though the character sketch was detailed any lesser actors portraying these roles would have made the show flop. But still BS/SI acknowledge Gul even when BS shot most of his crucial scenes in under 1 hr because basically he is that kind of a person. That doesn't mean that Gul did a great job in holding this show together. If anything she did the maximum destructive blow to the serial by first leaking the news of BS keeping the papers, then weird storylines, outburst on Forum32 and mocking fans and finally not even accepting that somewhere she screwed up.

Gul has all the time in the world to do Koffee interviews but couldn't have given one statement regarding the show closure and one statement acknowledging the efforts of the team. That doesn't make her a great team leader Su, in my honest opinion. Look at Rajan Shahi. He stands by his crew/cast even when they move on to other PHs and other jobs. He is a good example of a good team leader and that is why even when all his other serials were nothing when compared to Bidaai, all of them made some splash and got the cast recognition. Do you seriously think Neha in 'Chaand Chupa' or Naitik, Akshara in YRK or Adaa Khan and Ankita in Amrit mathan are great actors. Nope just by sticking with Rajan Shahi they are now known faces.

For me somehow I have a very high regard for good team leaders. My own example, I blossomed a lot under very good team leaders - My very first job in the company I work in was because of my team leader and I have been here for a long time. Even when the studies I did were nothing in line for the job that I was offered, my team lead noticed the spark in me and hired me and he really was there for me when I was growing in the company. And on the same hand I suffered a lot from a Team leader who does mistakes and doesn't acknowledge it making life miserable for us. So you can say I have been under Team leaders of both extremes and being in an competitive industry, I have come to have high regard for good team leaders. And now I am a team leader and I hope I will do a good job for my team.

I think that is the problem I have with Gul. She was there when there were praises and wanted people to acknowledge her contribution but when the closure happened she no where wanted to take any responsibility, she dropped the show like a hot potato. As a person I can understand her tendency to blame the other factors and avoid taking on a blame, but as a team leader I can't accept Gul shirking responsibility.

    32. Sarada,
I NEVER said Gul is a good team leader. In fact, time and again I have said that she should stick to her creative side...what I meant to say is she is a GOOD PERSON.

      '
Gul has all the time in the world to do Koffee interviews but couldn't have given one statement regarding the show closure and one statement acknowledging the efforts of the team. That doesn't make her a great team leader Su, in my honest opinion.':

I would have welcomed a statement from her at any point in time. Even that interview with Barun was done with good intentions, if you look beyond the publicity stunt theory.
She showed respect for Barun's decision and they just talked about the good times they had as a team. When Barun talks about ASR being a team effort, Gul agrees...she does not say it is her effort or Barun's...I suppose she is not articulate enough...hmmm...another person who badly needs a good PRO.

And on coming out with statements, no matter what she says, people will twist it to their fantasy...so I always preferred her to shut up...the advice even Sanaya came up with during the controversy...

Now it is 2 months...this coffee chat was welcome from my side...she had given time for wounds to heal and it WAS TIME TO GIVE SANAYA HER DUE...which does not mean a show praising each other...just a normal convo which ahem...ended up looking like a 'Barun admiration club'.

      J,

You have described it exactly as I saw it too...especially the apology bit...and that si where I cannot stop gushing about the smooth transition in to the romance....

'she asked him to dance as part of her bet.. he went near her, she flinched.. he has a flashback of the slap scene.. he drew her into the dance as his apology. "khuda jeene ye kya huwa hai.. ki ben gayi ho tum meri khuda".. and this sudden realization makes him go away, leaving zoya.. with a heavy dose of realization on her side too. in fact, i loved the picturization.. there was no passion, there was not supposed to be.. and yet there was.... they were two strangers, dancing together because of a bet.. but the unexpected closeness gave them both a lesson.':

He he ...edited it as you wanted...

Also, the way Asad tries to keep her out of is room...when she comes to sew the buttons on...he is trying to stick to his decision..this girl just wouldn't let him...and I was rofl with his final giving in...'Ok. but please don't talk!'

Trust Zoya to ignore even that!

    33. Sarada,

I have to correct you here. DD and GC acknowledged both Gul and Nissar in their acceptance speech for the best jodi award for Maaneet.Gul was more involved in Geet (at least uptil Maaneet wedding which took place 10 months into the show and it was very well done). I think she did not pay attention to Geet after shooting for IPK started. In fact the show started going down from March 2011, round about the time they were casting for IPK. In IPK I think she was there for only a few months since she wasn't aware of what was happening in the sets.

      Delete
    34. Opti,

If you see DD and GC don't dwell too much on Geet(that may be due to the nasty rumors of them during the end of the show) and I have never seen them acknowledge Gul/Nissar to the extent that Barun/Sanaya do. But I agree with you Gul didn't pay any attention to Geet after 8-10 months right when she started to get busy with IPK (casting/show) and with IPK I think she was there only for the first month or so. In both the interviews Gul couldn't recollect lot of things and it looked like she wasn't aware of what was happening on the IPK sets. By comparison Gul seems to be more invested in QH.

Gul needs to know how to take a product to the end with the same quality and till now she hasn't done that. Hopefully going forward she will change and will concentrate on product at hand rather than jumping ship the moment she is hit with problems.

      Delete
    35. opti/sarada.. gul is a producer, part of the [creative team] of the serial... the actors and ppl on the set are the [production team]. so i do not think she needed to be on set at all, except when invited for special celebrations.

if gul is a creative head, she would not actually need to know the technical details.. and only in QH did she take the mantle of director.. which she has dropped now. i would suppose she is more interested and talented in the "beginning".. story and casting and characterization and things like that.. if the story was changed at every turn, i can understand her losing interest very fast. i am a creative person, i do not like people telling me what to create, beyond a point.. i have tons of unfinished work in my shelves, because i lost interest midway through.

i do not understand the reason for this bashing.. she is doing something she is good at, yes she has her shortcomings..but who does not? whatever she did, her team produced three of the better (i mean watchable) serials that was on tv recently.( and IPK being a copy of geet was totally understandable, because that WAS their initial sales pitch to star plus.)

now QH is a different tale,..the protagonists are more matched than contrasted in terms of social status. the only difference is their mannerisms/upbringing. if it looks like another M&B story, i do not agree.. there is a lot of family drama pushed in, that was not there in either geet or IPK. there is also a lot more explaining going on, a very different style than their previous shows.

i heard that YRKKH got the director's award recently somewhere. and i was taken aback.. what are they showing that deserves an award? and then i remembered.. not all people see with my eyes. what i think is positively splendid will not look the same to another person..

      Delete
    36. Jaya,

I am just a little too critical of Gul that's all - Sorry if you felt that I was bashing her.

Regarding YRK getting the director's award, I think the award is from star guild awards - not sure if it comprises only of star shows or spans all the telly shows. But I think they look at the direction of the show during the major chunk of time and not just a few scenes. And even when I agree that the show has nothing to offer, it is actually one of the few shows that have very few bloopers and has very good editing and continuation shots and guess that is why they gave the award.

      Delete
    37. J,

Gul as a creative head is not required to be present for the serial....so i see nothing amiss if she was not part of the process...

As IPK was a first real experience for me in watching a telly for this length of time, it was also the first time, i tried to make sense of who does what in this business...i still can't claim i know their KRAs but i can readily accept that what Gul contribuion to IPK was in the way the serial was to be shaped...how do i say this..creatively unfold....her role was not in the day-to-day tracks....
For me Gul's vision must have been a 4-5 page document...but enuf power in the vision to translate in to mini-tracks (A's attraction building towards K despite being averse to it, him succumbing in a moment of weakness, his volte-face twice over, his gradual moment of realisation of love only to breakdown on countering the Shyam truth...his dilemma and his private hell thereafter...only to build to a crescendo of countering the real Khushi as he lives with her leading to a moment of Atoot vishwas....and thereon...I will stop with this becos the vision became blurred for me after that!!) So, what i am saying is Gul can't be criticised for how the individual tracks unfolded becos that is the area where the screenplay (i suppose takes over..within the creative liberties!!)but I would still hold her accountable for the message in the track..

Having said that...its a creative person's prerogative to tell a tale and as a viewer i will only react to how i understood that part...yes, I can't say that my sensibilities will not interfere in the way i perceive the work but largely to me, when i look at IPK, i was mostly concerned at how that vision was being translated on screen....

I expected to see a man ravaged by the demons of his past falling in love with a woman against his better judgement only to realise he was betrayed.....by fate (co-incidence) twice over..(well atleast i thot two times) ..and how his salvation was still beholden to that woman becos their love for each other was far powerful than any obstacles that came their way....

Did i see that vision....partially yes and mind numbing in fact!!.....so much that the beauty of the entire effort put in by actors, the directors, writers, tech team made it seem as if it had a life even beyond what was in the script or story (considering some(??) are so consumed by it even 3 months after it ended)

On bashing Gul....all i can say is that a Head ideally takes a greater flak for failure (the funny part in life is u can't guarantee that praise will come in equal measure for success!!)..Having said that for me IPK was an incompatible marriage between SP and PH..they rode with it for however long they could and then chose scapegoats to lay a gud part of the blame for the breakup, keeping very little accountability to themselves!!

    38. rekha, (hugs) love you for this reply... this is mostly how i see the serial myself.. the broad ideas were perfect.. and yes, it got clouded at the end, because the creatives and actors freely admit that the story got changed as it developed.. (most of the actors who left said this was not what they signed up for)

mindnumbing is right.. we got hooked, then we sit through day after day of heartbreakingly ridiculous episodes, and still the heart refuses to let go of the addiction.. and then is fed by one brilliant scene, one melting episode.. and we become deewanis once again.

when i see what they worked with (multiple problems with CT, PT, actors) and what they delivered.. in retrospect, the product was pretty powerful. so actually, i have respect for the creators, and dont really grudge them leaving SP in the lurch. maybe yes, gul did indeed kill the golden goose.. i think she is justified.

      Delete
    39. Jaya, Rekha, *hugs* I pretty much agree with both of you, that's what I have also feel and it's something that all the different people involved have said at different moments of time. Somewhere I read an iv with GH (I think) who said exactly the same thing - a PH presents a broad concept to the channel, who accepts it ... the daily tracks and details are then worked out as the show progresses, and according to the feedback received. And we saw exactly that happening ... unfortunately the more sensible feedback was not taken into consideration and some of the tracks were indefensible ... like the Payash chameli tel and Masala Mama among others ... however putting all the blame on one person is not justified ... when she was probably not involved at all.

Gul was the producer, the broad vision was hers, that is true ... but from all the iv's we've seen, she was no involved with the details ... and also towards the latter half, for whatever reasons, she did lose touch with IPK and get more involved with QH ... for that, channel interference as well as actor issues can be held equally responsible. They still managed to deliver a good show for the longest time ... in fact, I would give them a lot of credit for the kidnapping track, which was a major alteration of the planned story, yet they kept it taut and gripping for the most part.
I still feel Gul and her PH have a lot to learn in terms of time management and PR ... however, I also would give them credit that with each show, they appear to be learning from the mistakes of the previous one. And in terms of scenes, writing and presentation, they are unquestionably very good ... their creative team is very strong.

Rekhs, agree completely with your last statement ... both PH and channel laid the blame on the most convenient scapegoat, escaping the bulk of the blame for the exit mess. Barun made it very easy for them to do so, with his unclear wishy-washy statements which made a hash of things, and his idiotic fans did the rest. The buck does finally stop with SP, for making the final decision, and I'm very glad that they have been served well by Kaali's disastrous TRP's. Vindictive pleasure :)))

    2. Dia/Opti,

Loved the episode of Veera. I think it has the potential to be in Top 5 slots of TRP. I remember Bade Acche was number 2 serial when Pihu was introduced. I think if the makers promote Veera well, it can be better than DABH, SNS and YRK.

The main thing I liked today was the simple touches - the one where Ratan comes running to console Veera but when Veera wakes up, she tries to go away. It is like she doesn't want Veera to catch her loving her. And then the conversation where Veera wants Ratan to sing lullaby and the reluctance with which Ratan sings. Sneha is a brilliant actress and her voice modulation when she sings is really good. The way Veera clutches her mom's salwar tightly and Ratan reluctantly keeps on removing shows the way Veera wants to cling on to her mother and Ratan inspite of herself can't detach herself completely from Veera. The direction is really good and so all the other departments(sound, lighting and editing) for this serial. This serial is really good and since the story is not completely revealed, the suspense is still there and sometimes that works in the serials favor. People tune in to see what is next and will not unnecessarily have their own expectations on how the serial should move forward. This would rule out the fans taking over the serial and bashing the PH for the storyline. I just hope this PH sticks to their story and doesn't let out the cat from the bag and continue their good work.

    Where are you?

I want a decoding of PV from you.

Your Akash bitwa seems to have taken lessons from Shyam Jiju to his heart...

He is writing Part 2 of '101 sure shot ways to fail in killing some one'.

And he puts even Shyam to shame!

Jiju had only a scorpion...his shishya has come with nothing less than a snake..(rubber one...wish they had borrowed Mahadev's snake...at least that one has its hood up!)

His plan is to murder Yash in the dargah...while he is standing and praying with half a dozen people around..mind you, all of them have their eyes closed in prayer, so no one is seeing the basket as he holds it up to Yash's hand....and when that fails, when he is tying the holy thread...didn't wait to see if he actually succeeded... that'd have completely ruined the comedy for me...

  17. Hiii everyone :)

i absolutely loved the last two epis of Veera.. and the talk about education by Chaaaaaiji (i loved it when Veera called her that) was absolutely applause worthy.. i say this is the nayi soch..am really keeping my fingers crossed that the makers of this serial are given full creative freedom and SP let them tell their story..i am really impressed by the creatives.. they are doing a fantastic job.

am really very impressed with Sneha Wagh.. Veera is simply adorable when she wiggles her eyebrows and knits her eyebrows and loved today's scene when Ranvir convinces her about going to school..like we thought that guy helping Ratan in the farm has quit :( .. me thinks Nihal will help her now.. btw why is that other female(is she Sarpanch's wife) looking for gossip about Nihal and Ratan.. i loved how Chaaaaiji's glare just made her shut her mouth, but guess she will create problems for Ratan in future :/

I am liking how they are building up the suspense around Sampooran and Nihal story.

@Su.. ur update of PV really made me laugh, now i have to watch it :D

So Gul, has used Teri-Meri for her new jodi..ab mein kya bolu :P

BTW, i read Barun's new HT intv.. liked it a lot..i do not think he has disclosed anything earth-shattering about his personal life :P .. hes more comfortable now to share bits and pieces of his Real life. I really do not know how to react to all the stupid theories again going on in the forum. I neither found him attention seeking nor is anyone conspiring and to intrude on his privacy. Now eveb HT is conspiring about barun..like seriously!!! is Barun really that big a personality that they put his morphed pics on their daily :P and what will ruin his image exactly, a photo of his with his wife from his recent vacation, i really do not know whether to laugh or pity for people who are wanting to grasp at straws instead of facing reality :D

Saw some scenes of MB after seeing all your description, but i dont think they will make RK negative, am thinking they will take the cliched route and show at the end like he wronged Madhu for Madhu's own good.. you know the sacrificing love kind :P *ducks* or are the creators/channel willing to take the risk and give a really path breaking storyline.. time will tell i guess oh and the TRPs of course :D

speaking of TRPs, Veera is doing great and am really happy, wish it was at a more convenient time slot.

take care and have a great weekend guys :D

The forum is a MESS ... I avoid all posts now except for the Sanaya shows post, and a few made by San fans. Even there some bashers come in to drop a few spiteful comments ... sad!
      The rest I totally avoid!
Poor BS ... was he bashed again? Whatever for? The last interview was quite sweet and noncontroversial, I thought! But I avoided all the discussions on it, they are never in good taste, by Barun bashers, and esp by Sarun fans ... jeez, guys, keep your fantasies to yourselves! Having said that, I guess if BS wants to stay in BW, he will have to get used to this - rumor mongering and yellow journalism is far worse and more widespread in BW than it is in tellyland. He's lucky he hasn't been linked with Shenaz yet!!! :D

That petition lady BUGS me!!! Such a sanctimonious preacher ... and hypocritical with it!

I need to catch up with Friday episode of Veera.

Saw QH and after a few days of liking, it was time for *head desk* again ... when the clever vamp Raziya manages to outwit the dumb Badi Bi and Ayaan, who seem to have about half a teaspoonful of brains between the two of them! Reminded me of Akshay's last interview, where he wants to play a negative character, because like he puts it "you get to be clever, and outwit or bash up the hero for 16 reels, only in the last reel, do you lose ..." :D

this is the one i found on forum which they say was on hardcopy. As per me - is the photo embedded on a different background? definitely yes!!! Is Barun-Pashmeen pic photoshopped? definitely no. The info about his Real life are definitely given by him, but yes the sentences may be restructured by the editor or his PR. The clothes they are wearing clearly indicate its from their winter holiday in UK after the SP SPL, his red daga, the length of Pashmeen's, hair which matches the one with her in the family pic of October during that delhi wedding, etc, i can give many more examples of why the pic is authentic for me, but i guess some ppl just want to doubt anything and everything related to Barun-Pashmeen. If ppl can pick contradictions in each and everything he says, i definitely can pick lots of consistencies in what he says, but i guess ppl will believe what they want to hence i do not go into such posts. I find it very sad. They say they love Barun, but dont they get it what she means to him.

i absolutely loved what he says in his VD msg to that VJSmriti female, it clearly shows how sorted out he is about love, relationship and marriage.

To tell the truth, I am not impressed by Gautam or Jennifer...

and come to think about it, I did not even fall in love with any of the characters in Hum dil de chuke or Black or Khamoshi...all three were good movies, but the story was good and that was it. When it comes to a daily soap, a lot goes in to how the character is written and slowly revealed...I am not sure I will find the magic here. The promo definitely does not promise much except for some good shots.

What I mean is, I was definitely impressed by the promos of Veera and MB....even QH (quite frankly all I can say is may be)...SC does not evoke the same interest.

And I cried watching Black, but I don't remember feeling like hugging the character ...movies sometimes make you want to do that, the most recent one which made me feel that way- Rockstar.

So, I am not disappointed that San did not get this.
If the promos looked interesting, I'd have been disappointed. May be the show will prove me wrong.

    10. Nandini,

Yes varma.nishi1 is from the PH. She was the one who was giving the feelers and bashing Barun/PH by turns during the Nov crisis. Wonder what she is doing in IPK forum. Maybe she knows something that is not public information yet because she is from PH and has worked with Barun during IPK days. Anyway if there is any information that is related to Barun/Pash then today or tomorrow it will be public - Till then I think it is best to ignore everything.

      Delete
    11. Su, honestly, SC evokes mainly curiosity as of now ... agree the promos are not really interesting as such. It's more to do with how will a director like SLB adapt to the medium of TV, especially with the mess it's in these days. SLB's last couple of films have been more about visual appeal than story telling ... remains to be seen how he deals with this, when the story is well known. I wished San had got this show only for the attention it will draw from the media, both TV and BW ... but as a project, not really ... hopefully she will get a better one. Anyway, it seems that TV is catching the eye of bigwigs in BW, though it seems more for the moolah it now represents than anything else ... But the number of actors making forays into BW or fluctuating between BW and TV seems to be on the increase.

Barun is young, good looking ... there will be rumors. No point getting too upset about it, it's something he will have to get used to. People are ready to make up stories if there are none ... besides, it is true that he was having marital issues during IPK, though I NEVER heard anyone else was involved, it was purely between him and his wife.

      Delete
    12. Sarada/Dia,

Frankly i do not know what happened in Barun's personal life, something might have happened or it might be pure speculation. Okay, for a minute lets assume that things are bad in his personal life.. for me what is irking is why window-dressing your favorite. If a relationship fails, both parties will have contributed their fair share right then why paint one as an angle and victim just because he is in limelight and paint another person in total black as a tormentor when not a thing is known about her and who is not from this field and her name is being tarnished for may be no fault of hers, isnt it sad, but guess some of so-called Barun fans and well-wishers have passed all borders of what is right and wrong, they have totally lost conscience and just want closure to their fantasies, the life of the person whom they claim to care and lives of people in his life be damned. On top of it also misuse the name of another person who is in relationship with another man, first you make her jobless and now you are dropping hints about her that will paint her a person of no integrity. What kinda of drama are these guys weaving, how many lives are they playing with and they think they can get away with it.

Anyways, truth will come out. If Barun is a jerk/cheater that will come out or if he is being set up by someone just to spoil his image since the lower rungs in the PH could not take his departure from the show and show getting closed down that too will come out.

    13. You know what WILL happen ... regardless of the so-called 'truth' coming out or not? If Barun does return to TV, he and Sanaya will never work with each other again. So the gossip mongers will dash their own fantasies to the ground. And the other thing, which is already happening, I feel ... they will not be seen together even in off screen segments. The gossip mongers will be well served for their ridiculous games.

Nan, if his relationship is strong, these rumors should not break it. He has known his wife for thirteen years or so, it's not a short time. They're newly married, they will work things out if there are problems. Problems don't happen BECAUSE of rumors ... if they do, then the relationship was not strong enough in the first place. Problems are always two-sided ... but try getting the Barun fans to admit that their god could be at fault even partially! Pash is an unknown so they paint her black ... Mohit at least has some of his own fans who stand up for him. Although I don't care much for Mohit fans either, they are far too ready to assume that if there are problems between Monaya, it is Sanaya's fault more than Mohit's.

And Sanaya is too strong minded to allow rumors to unsettle her life. She will just stay away from Barun completely in public, and not allow it to spoil either her friendship or her relationship.

    14. Firstly, i sincerely apologize if am bringing this stuff into this blog and spoiling the mood of others, its not my intention. The last 2-3 days some very very disgusting posts have been made on the forum, i just had to vent my displeasure and am not sure if i can do it on the forum so am posting my views here, hope you people really do not mind me sharing it here.

@Dia, i absolutely agree with what you have written, Barun-Pashmeen relationship might(speculating here) have had other problems, but do not think its because of rumors.

Secondly, Sanaya and Barun(as we have seen in their recent interviews) are distancing themselves from the show and their jodi because of this very reason, their roles in IPK will always be close to their hearts as it has given them great joy to enact it and given them creative satisfaction, but now specially after how the show got closed they have realized the lunacy of some of the so-called fans.

What you said about Sanaya is very right, she is a strong person, she will handle it. I once saw an offscreen segment of MJHT on IPK forum posted by someone, in that Nissar was playing a prank on Sanz saying that she has been told to shoot the whole night or something like that(i am sure you would have watched it) i loved the way how she very strongly put her foot down and when Nissar said the channel said it, she said give me their number i will speak to them. That is the reason when ppl were spreading that Barun stood up for Sanaya, etc, i had an absolute ROFL moment. If it was other way round, i think i would have slightly believed it:D Hence we can also see why Gul is a little wary of Sanaya, she knows she cannot push her around like Barun.

Again, sorry if am spoiling anyone's mood here by sharing all these stupid things in the blog:)

    15. Nan,
Vent away ... we all use this place for that purpose ... IF gets too personal and ugly if you write your real opinions, because it really is a very biased place! And I'm not talking only about the Barun fans here, although they're bad enough, with their insecurity and jealousy every time Sanaya gets any praise or attention, but the obsessed SaRun fans as well, and even some of the self-professed Sanaya fans, who do nothing but bash Barun ... uff, am venting here myself!

I saw this happening during Geet ... I never followed the show, but because I watched SBS, I saw the easy friendly camaraderie between DD and GC fade because of the fans and their ugly behaviour ... they stopped giving any joint ivs at all.
I was happy it didn't happen to BS/SI during most of the show ... but it started towards the end ... probably around the same time as the rumors about BS's personal problems started. And it's just getting worse now ... no wonder BS doesn't mention Sanaya at all in his ivs. The fans have done their job with their stupidity ... and worst part is, they don't even realise it.

Sanaya is very strong all right, what's more, from what I've seen of her, she is very loyal to her friends, and has a very strong sense of what is right and what is wrong ... witness her sticking up for BS, for Gul, even for the cast and crew who lost their jobs, because she knows them personally, they are not just '150-200 people' for her.

I saw that MJHT segment ... in fact, I never liked Sanaya before that, or rather, I saw her as Gunjan and I never liked the perpetually weepy, wimpy Gunjan ... that segment was the first one where I started changing my mind about Sanaya. Not only did she put her foot down, but when she realised it was 'bakra', she was such a sport about it ... that was what changed my mind about her completely ... the way she took that joke on her so easily and so sportingly! I started liking her as a person after that segment! But you're very right ... she was ready to speak to the channel if needed, for something she believed was wrong ... to imagine she would stick up for anyone if she felt they were in the wrong, the way Gul was painted, is laughable! And you can see also the way Rajan treated her with so much respect and affection during the last LA trip, just after IPK ended, it's very clear that he and the channel by extension, have a very high regard for her. He let her answer all the controversial Barun questions, with clear replies that Barun was NOT coming back ... obviously SP entrusted her with the job of getting that unpleasant message across to the fans, while keeping their own image intact with the standard reply of 'of course, we'll get Barun if he wants to come back.' Because they knew she could manage it.

    16. Nandini, Dia,

What reliable source has come out and stated that Barun is having problems with his wife? Very unlikely, I feel. If people can cook up so much about Gul arm twisting Barun and the Sarun nonsense, I guess they will declare Barun divorced privately in no time. I feel he is very grounded and going by the way he talked about Pashmeen in Gul's iv, feel he is a HAPPILY MARRIED MAN.

Varma Nishi....it took me sometime to understand why you highlighted her reply. I have not been in touch with the rumours, so this is the first time I am even hearing this rift story.

I think all Nishi did was clarify that such statements are ready made...they look so too...kind of monotonous and harmless ...if a channel issues a statement saying Barun wants to spend Vday at home...whether it is true or not, Barun is not going to pull them up for it.

Or more likely, they called him up weeks before and Barun would have casually mentioned his plans.

Nishi was just making a statement on the news source and not on Barun's personal life, I felt. Considering he was supposed to be in Kenya (???What is the guy doing there? And when is his movie getting released? How come no one is talking about that?)

      Dia,
Barun not mentioning Sanaya...I think that's just his nature..most likely, he is not aware of the fan fiction surrounding them, considering they are not active on the net. In one of the interviews, after he had declared leaving IPK, he had said that Sanaya is practically a neighbour and he will see her from time to time.

What is wrong with these fans? When the show was on, the rumours were not so bad...'an idle mind is the devil's workshop'? Gul must be disappointed...they have taken the spotlight off her? :D

(I really hope these IPK fans never start watching QH...as it is there enough nonsensical people of another kind over there...)

    17. Su,
Just to clarify, the bit about Barun having problems is not from a source on IF, but a personal friend who has strong contacts. She normally never gives me any inside info, neither do I ask her, she works in the tv world, and she's not supposed to give out any info. This was a long time ago, when IPK wound up. I have no idea as to present status, neither do I plan to ask.

QH fans ... from what you say, they are mainly KSG fans, and KSG fans are huge Kajen fans, so I don't think there will be many rumors there. Honestly, I don't think the chemistry will take off to that extent, and it is being maintained as a family drama for now ... though once the gudiya factory fire ka raaz is revealed, they might step up the romance quotient. Even then, I think there will be more of the Asad-Zoya-Ayaan triangle ... I think that is what was planned in the original story.

btw, chk this thread and that Nishi female comments again and her convo with that Maham female, it appears very fishy to me.

this was one more thread some time back when Barun's family pic was posted where he n pash were together from the time frame of sept-oct.. check that nishi female's comments, am not trying to prove or disprove anything, but even to a layman like me i have noticed that she usually jumps into every thread where Barun's wife is mentioned either in intv/article/photo and stresses that either they are old or fake, i find it very very odd, why so much enthu in proving something. Regarding what you said about Barun being secretly divorced, its already considered as the ultimate truth by some of the so-called SaRun fans, infact what all the mention about Barun and Sanaya's relationship is horrible, its dispeakable, i am not even comfortable in repeating it here on a public blog :( i really pity Barun and Sanaya, they do not deserve such fans :/ and really feel for that lady Pashmeen, the things they are spreading about her, i have with my own eyes see comments like kill/death mentioned with her name, i do not know her, but as a human being i feel no one deserves such kind of hate that too from ppl who really do not know her also :(

i sincerely feel Gul should clean her stables, one rotten apple will spoil her name, after all this nishi female very openly claims she is representing the PH rite.

Loved how Ranvi convinces Veera to get ready for school. There is someone who hads not lost the innocence of childhood out there in the creative team.

Nihal bears a strong resemblance to Sampooran, from a distance...hmmm...I wonder if that is how Sampooran got killed. He was mistaken for Nihal?

PKD: At last, Avantika redeems herself when she understands her husband waited for her all these years, but now he has decided to move on. She respects his decision. Thank You, Avantikaji. For the first time you proved you deserve him.

2 shows that are looking reaaaalllyyy good.

BV: Jagiya retells his tale to Ganga...he talks about how he had betrayed Anandi and the events that transformed him in to the person he is(It was a nice recap for me...done neatly in 5 minutes.).
He tells Gangaa at the end of the story that, now she must be imagining him at her husband’s place and herself at Anandi’s place.

And this SIMPLY WONDERFUL woman tells him this after a respite...’not only Anandiji...I am thinking of your doosri beendhni too..afterall, YOU WRONGED HER TOO!!! ‘

I am impressed. It is not that I had any sympathy for Gauri...but I loved her characterisation. I am so happy they mentioned her at least, though I am not expecting the character back on the show.

    MB: MB! MB! MB!

Is any one watching it? These are the BEST episodes in the show. I am expecting this shower to last at least a month. GH is giving exactly what I wanted to see. Dipali comes to rub salt in Madhu’s wounds. WHAT WONDERFUL DIALOGUES!

Precap: Madhu encircled by press waalas...Dipali on the treadmill watching the high tension drama on TV...RK enters. Now he will realise the enormity of his actions...what ASR was supposed to realise. I bet Gul had this scenario planned for RTR. Anyway, I am not comparing, just loving the drama till it gets dragging....

    1. Su,

Few things I agree with you here. I too think Sampooran was mistaken for Nihal and was killed by Nihal's enemies. Either that or Sampooran had an accident and a face change. The second one looks too cliched so I want to believe the first one.

And coming to MB, I still will not and can not accept Madhu forgiving RK no matter what but maybe if they give a good RTR, then maybe that will work. One thing I am really loving is the new montage of Madhu and RK separate and the chorus - Hum Hai Deewane, Tere Deewane. So maybe colors and the team wanted RK to be very dark much darker than Arnav ever was and so maybe they will have an extensive RTR when Madhu becomes an heroine. I really appreciate the fact that the channel didn't ask the team to tone it done and the team is sticking with their original concept. Maybe the TRPs being less made them go the romantic route for some time and now they are back to their original storyline. I am also like Radhaji and the way she stood up to RK. The character progression of all the characters are good - RK pretended so his was an act but Bittooji and Radhaji's characters are good.

Regarding the drama not being dragged, I will bet the story will be dragged like anything and by the looks of it we are just at the first major point of the show. I can very easily see this show going on for another 1 yr or so.

    2. SI,

There was an article that said that jagya will wait for gauri's return. So maybe she is scheduled to return fr some episodes at least. BV makers are thorough. They will give the gauri story also it's due. From gauri's POV other than having a complex and fear that jagya would leave her, I found her to be okay. Yes my sympathy could be with anandi but if the great dadisa gets forgiven for beng selfish time and again, then why not a gauri who is a much younger girl with a lot of insecurities thrust on her. Did not dadisa spoil her life by getting jagya married again to another girl. And she gets away so easily. And wasn't gauri expecting a child. Does anyone know or remember. I was not seeing regularly during that time because I had sympathy for both the girls and absolutely none for jagya.
Anyway the actress must have finished with marriage etcetera and must be okay to come for a few episodes for the makers to go in that direction.

QH - Am I the only one who had absolutely no problem with asad's dance and the Teri meri song as well. And of course I like zoya with all her quirks and bad acting et al, she has got something, an x factor which I like.

Has KSG also got a movie offer. Because my brain and eyes have started jaaping 'get a shave, get a shave' which used to happen when I used to the TD look of Barun.
I sincerely hope that Gul does not have any mental superstitious linkages of unshaven hero is equal to trp. Then gayi bhains pani mein :-)

    4. Sarada,

Radhaji will change colours when it suits the writer...what I mean is alternates between dumb and smart. Right now, she is all motherly and mother- in- law- ly, there was a time when I wanted to hit the writer for making her suspect Madhu had planned to murder RK...right after Madhu had brought RK back to life in front of her very eyes. And she is eternally blind to her sati savitri pativrata DIL, Dipali.

Bittooji has also wavered in the past to suit the script..so I am not lavish with praising their characterisations. Certain characters can never be redeemed for me- and that includes Malik too, after the silly plot on getting him to agree to marriage. Chalo...leaving all that past baggage behind, for the sake of RTR...GH had said MB is something that had never been attempted on Indian Telly before...so I agree that the makers sticking to their original concept: well worth an applause.

Don't worry. RK will have a good RTR and Madhu is not going to forgive him any time soon. I guess Padminiji has to forgive Madhu before he even gets to Madhu...that itself is an iron barrier. (The way I want the story to go..., since everyone else is pissed off with MB, GH might as well give his only audience what she wants! *evil grin*)

      Usha,
*hugs* on BV, yaar. Gauri and Jagiya were the most interesting characters for me, as I have ALWAYS found Anandi boring. I think they will just bring up Gauri...probably she'd have moved on now...so may be, Jagiya- Gangaa... Who knows? I am loving everything connected with Jagiya.

The ACTOR IS SO LUCKY as he rightly said when he got an award for the best performer or something...he said BV had given him the opportunity to play ALL SHADES with the same character. He is VERY lucky that he got to play it all in the same show!

He he...KSG and movie offer. I wouldn't be surprised at all. In fact, I have this theory that Gul wants to wind up QH in a year or so , so that the actors don't sabotage her script any more. If she has learned that lesson, good for her and US!

(Even Surbhi does not seem the kind who'd want to stick around doing a show for years together. She loves QH, but I guess after a year, she will want a break too. Their hours are quite hectic, and she may not be as committed as Sanaya. Actually KSG and Sanaya 'd be a good combo. They both seem to be able to handle the hours quite well. )

I remember that actor - he was very humble, said he's basically enjoying reflected glory because he's probably the worst actor in the entire ensemble, but he's so lucky to work with the actors of the calibre that are in the show. Found that incredibly sweet to say ... probably true, but saying it shows how humble the guy is.

okaayyyy, now i might sound crazy, but i always felt there is something good vasthu about that Sana house the place where LNMDJ and IPK was shot :D bcus cast and crew of both teams ended up being very good friends with eachother, even to this day the three female leads who played Gujral sisters share a very close friendship and rappot with eachother in an otherwise competitive industry where its very rare to find any two actresses as friends and also the three guys who played Saxena brothers still share a good camaraderie and friendship.. now i better stop gushing over LNMDJ and bore u ppl :P :D

  20. Su - this is for you dear

Yes i watch MB and enjoy it

so just before the big "twist" - i had feared the worst - did not want it to be the revenge thing simply coz RK had grown so much BUT also did not want the "there is a reason behind this - which kills be but i need to do it for Madhu" kind of twist - simply coz i feared that it would be a really bad reason - either very ekta-ish (like an illness) or a fizzled out cracker like the bftp in IPK
AND i had one more reason why i did not want a revenge - had a very strong fear that the story could go down where the hero is all bad but one scold/scene and he will change (like a movie i once saw - one of the worst i have ever seen!! (and that's no easy feat!!) - don't remember the name but it had Anil Kapoor and Kajol and they had a contract marriage for a yr - while K falls for AK and means to stay married - AK thinks - one yr over, marriage over and leaves - BUT in just one car ride he realizes his mistake coz a beggar was very nice to his wife and AK starts winning her back by doing all that had already happened all over again - very boring movie!)

However - MB has proven to be different - what i saw i liked - yes the hero is dark and he will improve - but he is not turning over in a jiffy! and hence i so get that ma and bittujis bonding coz someone is needed to get the two together and move the story ahead.

i am still on the fence on whether RK had changed and really loved MB - coz the story was moving at such a pace and the things he did in private - cant be explained otherwise - like when he first found out about Shamsher - he did not tell MB nor did he want the investigation to go on (and he had no intentions of MB finding out) and many many more scenes.

BUT from the stage where he said we should move out - i always wondered - why? why leave with nothing - what about his prior commitments (Bittuji had once mentioned that he was booked for the next 2 years or so) - but i convinced myself - this is a serial - its not practical - the hero will plan to leave and let go of commitments without lawsuits! - seems like MB team had actually thought this through - so am enjoying the closing of loops so far

Am just waiting to see how they explain the change in him earlier - or the complete turnaround now - i personally think he did plan it all as revenge but he started to change and fall in love which scared him- he is RK - does not want anyone else's control and hence is now being all cruel and not willing to even accept that he cares for her
(complicated i know - but interesting and more true to life than either all good or all bad) -

ps - having said all - i still cant stand the chawl scene - why make a perfectly private thing public - and the only reason i can accept - so that he wanted to save her from the malicious tongues of the chawl walas (though very unlikely - the chawlwalas loved MB in any case!)

    1. Mona,

Exactly my sentiments about the chawl scene. They made RK take revenge on Madhu and it was maybe a high point in their story but why demean Madhu by that chawl scene and Pads begging RK scene. These 2 have spoiled the serial for me somehow and that is why RK redemption is somehow tough for me.

I could somehow take Padmini begging for Madhu scene - she is a mom so she first pleads with RK not to harm her child and then when he doesn't relent - she pours out her wrath on him and takes her daughter away. Though I would have loved little less of Padmini crying but it was okay. The chawl scene was too bad. It was kind of RK proclaiming to the whole world that Madhu was his keep for some time and now she is back. IMO there was no need to demean Madhu that low. Had he dropped Madhu back in her house and privately conveyed this to her family, then also RK's revenge would have been accomplished. Now I don't know if I would like Madhu to ever forgive RK. I know for sure I can't forgive a guy who not only play acted with me but did everything to break my heart and who didn't hesitate to tarnish my reputation before the whole world. That is why I can't accept Madhu eventually forgiving RK. They could have toned down both these sequences and they could have left some space for RTR for RK. Now after RK has crossed the line, I don't know whether redemption is something that will work for RK.

    2. Mona,

You and I think like twins these days. I too dreaded the current MB track but am acutally loving the show more and more. The curiosity about RK's sudden volte face is keeping me hooked and they are keeping us guessing with his real motive. I think things will become clear by the end of this week (the producer mentioned that the viewers will see where this is going in two weeks time).

I am really enjoying Viv's acting and have to admit that I misread it at first. I thought he was excellent in dialogue delivery but was wanting in the expressions dept but if the track was to be one of revenge where he was faking his love at first (and he progressively fell in love with her) then he nailed it.

Going back over the previosu scenes I noticed that there was a cool claculatedness in his eyes whenever he was gazing at Madhu which had softened as the track progressed). I love his husky deep voice too. Very few TV actors have such a good voice and put it to good use.

I agree that RK faking his love fits in with the 'foresaking all wealth and fame' test. But as you pointed out hiding Mallik's attack from Madhu or getting Mallik and Pads married simply does not fit in with a pure revenge motive. Whether RK was faking his love then or faking his hate now, one thing is for sure he is no longer the RK who had set out to destroy Madhu for imprisoning him.

If one sees the manner in which he went about his first instalment of revenge for the four day imprisonment, one would have noticed that he destroyed the people closest to Madhu, knowing how attached she was to them and in doing so he destroyed her life.

The second round of revenge for the four slaps started with his half baked marriage. Although he was monstorous in the begining, he seems to have gone out of the way to right all the wrongs he did to her family. In fact there is a clear divide in his behaviour between the period after the four phere wedding and the period after the studio night when he saved Madhu from falling into electrocuted water and shared with her his past. He had become more human after that.

He may have still wanted his revenge but it was centered around making Madhu fall for him rather than take it out against her family. Maybe he felt that being close to her family would make her fall more in love with him. Clearly he did not bargain for falling so deeply in love with the woman himself. I think the intensity of his feelings hit after she nearly lost her life in the Ballu encounter. Ever since then he has been a bit reticent. His discomfort was more in evidence in the village track. Here we were shown how he did not like Madhu stealing his thunder. The ego came to the fore.

In sum, what I feel at this point is that RK does not like losing control which he has, when he fell for Madhu. When she remarked that she is happy that the man who was insanely loved by the world himself was insanely in love with her he did not look too happy. He seems to be trying to get back the control over his life by shoving her away but sadly he is beginning to realise that she has a tight hold over him even when she is not physically present. If anything this has only made Madhu stronger. She had gone weak in her love for RK, willing to sacrifice everything for him. When he banished her from his life he had said that she will be broken and shattered. She is trying to stand up on her own and prove him wrong. At the same time she is not filled with hatred or malice towards the man who did all this to her. She is still as concerned about his well being knowing that the man is self destructive.

A strong yet righteous Madhu and a mysterious hero who seems to be burning in a hell of his own making is what makes the track attractive for me.

Precisely how I am hoping everyone is seeing it now. For me, the heroine looked too neglected..but now things make sense...she was moony and misled. And now she is strong..loved that naakhoon dialogue she gave Dips..the fighter is there ALWAYS...has been there before also when it came to Dips. So that equation has not changed...I am really happy about that.

On VD's acting...this is what I was saying about the missing chemistry...but he sees the swing and has fb of their happy times...there was some chemistry there...What was going on in RK's mind then, if he had planned this revenge all the time?(I thought that chocolate thing was a missed opportunity...now I feel they really wanted to play down on the chemistry..it'd have been unforgivable if he did all this despite the chemistry. I am hoping for some one- way chemistry now. Madhu, after all has no time for such nonsense as chemistry and physics...she is busy growing her roots elsewhere. RK is her past as far as she is concerned, I hope.)

      Mona,

I did not see the chawl scene.

The way you describe it, it is bad. It should have been more privately done...there is no excuse whatsoever for such a public humiliation. But then, I watch the show with zero expectations...and I know I will not watch it for a long time.

On RK: I feel he has fallen in love with her, already. The distance will make him realise how much...and then first he has to deal with his own ego...

I still did not get that part of leaving. If this guy was planning revenge all along, what was the need to put Madhu through that Agnipareeksha, then apologise to her for his folly...and through that he made up with his mother...only to go back and break up with her...I have felt MB has some epic scenes planned - they work their way around the script to get those scenes connected...lot of things apart from RK don't make sense to me still. But I am not complaining at all. After all, this is the guy who said, 'dekhna hai toh dekho', I'll watch only what I feel like.

I don't know how the MB forum is taking all this...I feel the show will continue to have good trps...I hope SP learns a lesson from this: Let the makers tell their story.

    1. Editing in this scene was excellent .. just the right flashbacks at the right times ... and as was the acting, the right expressions with the right fb's. There are three scenes of Barun's which are brilliant IMO ... Barun alone, I mean ... and this is one of them.

  23. @ veera

Just random, one thing i loved and noticed was how that scene where ratan is searching for yellow fabric for the children and chaiji. They showed her typically opening bundles in which she has kept fabrics which have to be sorted or extra fabrics. It was so authentic. It was so nice to see the cupboard actually full of stuff and not absolutely empty. I used to always feel in ipkknd, every time arnav opened his cupboard, how, how, how is the lower portion of his cupboard so empty and me being not even having a fraction of his richness, I struggle for closet space. :-)

That is why I love the art directors of veera for their attention to this thing which never fails to hit me every time some tv character opens their cupboard.

    1. Agree with you Usha. In Veera I felt that the sound, art directors and editing are really good. Their attention to the detail in creating the house/shoots and the typical punjabi feel is really good. In IPK the wardrobe of the leads was pathetic and like you said the cupboard of Arnav was almost always empty - the suits never looked like those that belonged to a fashion magnet. Most of the stuff the cast used were of their own - ranging from Barun's casual wear, Daljeet's sarees, Karan and Akshay's own clothes. And the editing was pathetic. There were so many places where you could see the body doubles clearly.

    2. Sarada,
In most serials I find cupboards to be shown empty even when the leads get due variety of clothes to wear. I always wonder why they can't fill up the cupboards even with random stuff to increase authenticity seeing the number of times the characters open and close cupboards.

I just love moti chaaaaiji and veera's hurrrrrr conversations.

  24. Dia,

Here is some interesting research work :-P
I was a great fan of Sasural genda phool for the importance and the way the extended family had been set up. So I had done similar research work when. And it was based on a Bengali serial called Ogi Bodho sundari. And it was quite impressive.

Now when I heard his new serial is based on another Bengali serial called khela and I googled it. The first WRITEUP I came across was absolutely hilarious and quite quite creative and totally unbelievable as to how this could ever be converted into Hindi.

Anyway since you too are waiting for the SGP makers new offering I thought I would share :-)

But I am not able to post a link. Just google KHELA BENGALI SERIAL and the first link is the Story on sulekha.com. It is hilarious. ROFL
Of course it looks quite exaggerated. :-P

    1. Hi Usha,

Yes I know that SGP was an adaptation of OBS a very hit bengali serial. I guess none of you were on IF during that time. I was on SGP forum and we used to really bother the bengali friends on the forum with what the new twist is going to be in the serial. But I think during the end the SGP serial ending was changed and also there was no return of bade-papa back to the family. I honestly felt that SGP was really good till Ishaan-suhana were with the family. I didn't like Suhana moving to mumbai(was a good track if they had shown Suhana becoming mature but they kept her character stagnant) and absolutely hated bade-papa coming back track. The bade-papa track completely made badima weak and it was very surprising that no one could guess the duplicity of bade-papa until suhana guess it. And in the end the serial was dragging just for the sake of it though I enjoyed the bits and pieces of Suhana becoming a star in a TV serial.

I think this new show will also be appropriately changed to suit the Hindi General audience and definitely would be toned down - I can't imagine the story that Sulekha.com mentioned as the story for this show. Let's see how this one goes.

    2. Sarada,

I was never part of SGP forum but ditto ditto loved it till the Mumbai track and then came back for seeing the end. But in the beginning I loved it so much that even saw the Bengali episodes on YouTube and liked even that though I did not understand one word of Bengali. I would ask my maid and she would laugh at me. So the story and the Bengali version still kept me interested. But this person has written such a ridiculous story that I could not believe what I was reading till I realised I was too zapped. He he he he

    3. Usha,
I tried to read that post on Sulekha ... and gave up halfway because I couldn't stop laughing! Wonder if this new show will be anywhere close to the story given out there. Will give it a try anyway.

I also knew that SGP based on a Bengali serial ... I used to visit the SGP forum once in a while, not too often, though ... I watched SGP mainly for the family and I also detested the Mumbai Ishan Suhana track ... I used to mute those scenes and just watch the family parts. The bit about Suhana becoming a TV bahu was quite funny and I did enjoy that in parts.

  25. Seems like Kaali is set to bid adieu on March 8th. So does that make the serial only about 100 episodes or so? I always knew that Kaali was a fixed format serial but never knew it would be this short and that too it is from Shakuntalam telefilms and they are known to make dragging soaps. So anyways seems like MasterChef season 3 will go in its place. Will that mean that Behna show will have some more breather time as SD shergill is the show that will replace it and we are yet to see the promos for the show.

Here is the tellychakkar article mentioning Kaali going off-air.

    1. Funny thing about Behna is that both Karan T and Krystle have talked about what they will do when Behna goes off air :D They seem to be waiting for it to end! Not surprising, considering it has absolutely NO story left at all ... now it's another unending wedding with songs and dances coming up.

Kaali - I'm not surprised ... it's probably the worst performing SP show ever, no SP show has gotten TRP's under 1.0 ever since I started following TRP's. And they still don't have a good show to replace it, this is just stopgap because Masterchef will again be a limited time period show. Might be a good experiment actually - to see if reality shows get a good audience on weekdays. So far only KBC is a weekday show ... am I right?
My source was right - 3 months is the minimum a show has to stay on air, so they're taking both off as soon as the time is up ... first Khamoshiyan and now Kaali ... SP is becoming very ruthless. Though I think Khamoshiyan is also because of differences between the PH and channel. And no news of any new daily fiction show at all. I think SP is concentrating completely on SC ... only once it has launched, will we get news of the next new fiction show.
