Sanaya ...

Probably will be the last post on Sanaya for a month or so ... as she is off to the US for a holiday. :(

Putting together her recent interviews on forum32
Sanaya interview with Gul part 1

Sanaya interview with Gul part 2
This will ruffle quite a few feathers ... total respect for this girl, she says it like it is. Frank, brutally honest at parts ... the big similarity between Khushi and Sanaya - their positivity, and also their emotional nature. As always, a pleasure to hear her speak ... intelligent, articulate, confident, and with a definite mind of her own.
Am glad finally Gul also got around to acknowledging the hard work and dedication Sanaya put into Khushi, right from the language to everything else, and how she literally brought Khushi to endearing lovable life. Something which her new heroine is struggling to do!
Could have done without raking up the controversies on the ending ... more of Gul trying to clear her name? And whether Gul had or hadn't lost interest, it seems more and more clear that Barun had completely lost interest in the show. Although it seems Gul was definitely not involved much either ... as Sanaya mentions they hadn't met for ages before the farewell party.
She loved the team ... no negativity ... as compared to her previous shows. Sure know what she's talking about there!
Am more interested in when Sanaya is coming back on screen ... she is confident of coming back soon, that's for sure, as she mentions she's getting offers ... but she wants to do something different from both Khushi and Gunjan. But since she is going off on her US holiday, we will have to wait at least another month or so. Hope this is her usual holiday before she comes back to start work again ... and we get news by March! *fingers and toes crossed*

Will do a written update later ... probably after the weekend. Thanks for the link, BLE :)

*Edit* Hadn't been on forum32 till now, so I hadn't seen the writeup on Sanaya there as introduction for this part. Here it is ...
"Sanaya was asked what would she like to drink and she had said coffee. She wanted little milk, two spoons of sugar and two spoons of coffee. She was brought one. But there was something wrong. It was not the way she wanted it. It was a little less than perfect. So, she went and made it herself. That is how she is. Down-to-earth, no fuss, just did what she had to do to get it right.  Well one more thing was wrong. She wanted spoon with it. Notice how she keeps stirring her coffee. She is truly adorable.

She is a person who brings that on the set floor as well. Perfection in her lines, in her attire, even hair. She gives it all. And that is what you see in Khushi Kumari Gupta. The character who had twinkle in her eyes was all Sanaya. Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon not just gave Sanaya the wings to explore the actor in her but an opportunity to play every emotion from anger to passion; joy to sheer idiocy.
We wish Sanaya Irani the very best in her future projects and through this platform we wish to let her know that as Khushi Kumari Gupta, she has made a room in our hearts. Look out for more news about her on Forum 32."

Thank you for admitting that you reduced Khushi to sheer idiocy ... San managed to carry that off as well (not without my wanting to tear my hair out)... but don't try it with other actresses, they might not! Or the audiences might not stay around to watch!
Although have to agree, IPKKND gave Sanaya the opportunity to play an entire range of emotions from laughter to tears, from childish to mature romance and passion ... she's done it all. Can do a series of posts on the many moods of Khushi, and there will be material for all possible moods.

Promo of Ishq Wala Love on Zee with Sanaya and Karan
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ph3stJ09Umc
This 30 second prom made me laugh ... what will the whole show be like? Total nautanki!!! Sanaya and Karan would be good in a sitcom ... the guy has this really comic face! And Sanaya doing fultoo nautanki ... with Gujarati accent??? Deddy! Ramesh kidhar gaya?

Ishq Wala Love ...
Posting links of only the Karan Sanaya parts ... as predicted, fultoo nautanki!   Rest of the show was completely meh ... Zee seems to have the worst couples!!!

My dil goes guturgu guturgu ... I could only think of Jaya!!!

Wassup Monaya and Sanaya Zing photoshoot

Very cute Monaya segment - these two really know each other very well!

Sanaya Zing photoshoot, with some of the unseen pics - the ones with the 'morning after the night before' are really smoking HOT! Sanaya looks fabulous ... sexy, sultry, yet maintains that innocence in her eyes. Gorgeous Girl!!!
In the white dress, at some angles, Sanaya looks a lot like Madhuri Dixit.

Sanaya, Deepali, Pyumori, Utkarshaji, Shashi Gupta and Naniji attended Abha Parmar's son's wedding in Mumbai.Or rather, Sanaya attended the wedding, and the rest attended the reception. Sanaya was mobbed, and had to leave quickly.

One more link - the last for this post? Sanaya on what are the advantages of being an actor ... her first - that she loves her job, second that an actor gets the love and good wishes of so many people. Something which most of the others also said in different ways. Liked the way KSG put it - an actor gets the chance to touch so many hearts.

  1. basically, this was khushi's funeral wake.
clear terms.. sanaya is not khushi.. she worked hard to make khushi feel real, but khushi has ended. thank you, she had a great time doing it, but start to forget already!!

(dont think i did not notice the way they did not mention the cause of show closure at all.. and that's okay, because i dont want to know.)

  2. Thanks for sharing the link Dia..

Intv was okay EXCEPT for mentioning bashing Barun for me. If Gul has gone to the forum and seen how she was bashed has she not seen how much Barun/his wife and family were bashed. Sorry that part did not impress me much. I am really happy this time Sanaya was quite smart and did not get dragged into more controversy, infact i remember when she clarified for the first time i was thinking why is she even talking about it as it would be better for her to stay afway from this thing and same thing happened bcus Sanaya got bashed that time.

Anyway I really did not like Gul bringing in the bashing part. It is high time Gul starts concentrating on her new show because somewhere something went wrong and Gul's PH is also very much responsible to a great extent as Barun also is to some extent. I sincerely hope Gul learns from her mistakes and take corrective measures.

I just saw "Mamaji's" intv with team SaRun and he is very clear how he had been promised something else at the beginning and inspite of him voicing his concerns nothing was done even after eight months to address his issue and hence one fine day he finally quit. That again shows how ill-planned and mismanaged the PH was, but somewhere i as a neutral viewer will still give Gul's PH benefit of doubt and take it in my stride as i will not be aware of many behind the scene events and pressures of the PH.

Anyway its better Gul stop her coffee/tea sessions and concentrate on her new show.

    1. @Jaya, i think Kushi and IPK will always remain Sanaya's fav show, but i do not blame Sanaya for clearly taking a stance about demarcating real from reel. I just went to the IPK forum and its really pathetic. I agree with Gul and Sanaya ppl there tend to pick bits and pieces and form their own judgement and conclusions about not just the show but more so of the personal lives of actors, its disgusting in the least. People have become so delusional. They say they love the actors, but the way they comment and act proves otherwise. I think the bashers and 80% of Barun/SaRun fans are the same. They are mirrors of eachother's feelings hence they dislike each other so much. Bashers want something to happen between Sanaya and Barun so that Barun is proved a Cheater and 80% of Barun/SaRun fans want something to happen between them because they want their fantasies to come true and they themselves know how immoral their thinking are hence to justify their thoughts to their conscience they are painting Mohit and Pashmeen in a bad light.

I am really very very sorry if i have come across as sounding rude or inappropriate, but the actions and posts and comments of both bashers and 80% of Barun/SaRun fans has left a very bad taste in my mouth. I find it beyond decency.

I agree actors are in public life, but it does not give people to just say anything and everything that comes to their stupid minds in public forums.

I officially Hate those people who claim to know all inside info and spreading senseless rumors about Barun and Sanaya's personal lives. I find it beyond all human ethics. God save them because what they are doing will hit them so badly in their faces, god help them.

Again, very sorry if my rant has hurt any feelings of anyone here, i sincerely apologize, but had to get it out of my system.

      take care girls.

    2. Nandini,
Your rant echoes all our feelings- so thank you for letting it out.

Sanaya and Gul wanting to bash Barun: I wanted to hug them both there- it was said in jest and meant only that much. I am glad they don't feel the need to censor their sense of humour.

Om Mamaji- no benefit of doubt thing there. The guy speaks the truth, obviously. The same thing happened to the actor playing the BIL in Geet. The problem was mamiji became such a huge hit that mamaji's only role was to look on silently. He couldn't silence her, neither could he join her in her foolishness..the only option was to stand as a silent onlooker. And they couldn't kill him off either. The makers have explained this and the actors know it too. Some characters click, some don't. Mamaji had clicked, but he could not grow at the expense of mamiji- theer was no scope for him...he had to go on a business trip.

Personally, I felt the same thing happened to Akash and Payal. NK was supposed to be there only to tickle Arnv's green monster, but the character became such a hit that he was recalled. I really feel many of Akash's lines went to NK. As a couple, there was a lot for Payash to do for Arhi at least later in the drama, if the show had continued.

Now I want to make a strong shiddat for the sake of our IF friends...I hope Sanaya and Barun play siblings to each other in their next show together. There should be a limit to this madness.

I have half a mind to start this rumour and see where it goes...who will they bash then? *evil smile*

    3. I was out of town for the weekend and just came back on Sunday. So saw the Gul-Sanaya intv part 2. Well my honest 2 cents Gul doesn't know how to be a Team leader and doesn't know how to handle a crisis. Sure she can dream up good concepts(though I saw only one variation of the same concept till now and too a M&B interpretation so I am not sure how much I can call her creative but still would give her the dues here) but she can't lead a team.

      - First and foremost thing, you don't open up a can of worms not after 2 months of the show closing. All that was needed of her when the whole issue started was a simple clear cut point blank explanation of the situation at hand and what is her course of action. She didn't do that even when she apparently had the time to leak out the information to the 3rd person in the first place. Not done Gul.It left a bad taste in everyone's mind about you. Gul, you sure can learn a thing or two from Sanaya on how to be straight forward so that people don't misinterpret you.

      - Being a Team leader means you defend your team no matter what. I was playing forward in our school football team and this was when I was around 12-13 yrs old. At that time all that mattered to us was who scored the winning goal or rather who scored how many. I remember once our PT sir told us - "When you are playing out on the field you all are one team, your goal is to snatch win from the other team and it doesn't matter who scores the winning goal, you should all strive to help each other". This is the whole funda of being a team leader which frankly Gul didn't learn. You are one entity when you are representing to the whole world you should be together. What was the reason for bringing up bashing of her here and Barun bashing? Even in Barun's interview she mentioned that she was bashed and here too she is saying the same thing. But on the same hand does she acknowledge that even Barun was bashed and that too quite ruthlessly may I add on IF. Nope it is only she is bashed and she wants Sanaya to clear her name. So she doesn't like to be bashed but is okay if someone gets the bashing - as long as she is portrayed white, it is fine by her. Makes her a poor team leader IMO.

      - And also the main thing is you acknowledge the efforts of the cast, not just nod your head in passing. I just thought that maybe when Sanaya was talking about Khushi and how much she worked hard for Khushi, Gul will chip in and at least in passing accept the faults of the PH in not providing a decent wardrobe to her. Nope not happening here. Sanaya really worked hard for this show and that is very evident because she is so very different from Khushi and she made Khushi believable. But it was always her character that was watered down. No acknowledgement at that also.

I just hope Gul concentrates on her shows - rather her characters and creative concepts and leaves leading the team to some other people, she can't lead a team for sure.

And above all I loved Sanaya's honesty. She is right when she says that her personal life is hers and she may really like people adoring her as Khushi but there is no way she is going to have someone dictate how she would be outside of her character too. And seems like Sanaya's new show news is not going to be out soon enough especially if she is going to states for a vacation. I agree with Sanaya - she can nail any character down especially after doing Khushi and making it so believable. So will be waiting for her new show and hopefully the wait isn't long.

  3. Su!!!!!

Sanaya and Barun playing sibblings :P .. you know once that thought came to me too.. GOD what a slap on the faces of all those conspiracy theorists :D and when i saw in their stage rehersals during UK Spl they did remind me of it :D

Seriously some ppl have crossed all the limits yaar.

i have seen the offscreen segments of Barun/Sanaya, its very clear its their masti they do to get away from the boredom of waiting for shots and also everything they said and did during SBB/SBS segments were dissected in all wrong ways, as far as i have noticed Sanaya is kinda free with all of them be it Abhaas/Akshay/Barun. Why cannot they see things for what it really is. Why for God's sake people have to always find twists n turns where there is none :( Ppl do not know how to differentiate between camaraderie and passion, like seriously!!!!

Reg Gul-Sanaya bashing comment, i realized they said it as a joke when i saw the intv, but then i saw some comments on IF that really took it in another meaning so was venting that.

I agree with what you have said about all the other characters and i somewhere feel SP is more to blame for this than Gul/PH creatives, its very obvious SP got greedy after SPA and found ArShi as their route for minting money in international market, but no one can talk abt SP openly bcus they are the boss and they pull the strings.

I agree with what Sanaya said, whatever happens happens for good and i really admire how she has taken all this in a positive way. I really liked how she wished good things for everyone. The fact that she said that there was no negativity in their set among co-actors ever even during those days of confusion regarding its run shows that no one blames anyone either Barun/Gul for all that happened, but ppl just want to believe fiction over fact :/

BTW, i will read Sanaya's smile now :D :) When she asked Gul why they were bashing her and Gul said bcus fans were blaming her for arm twisting Barun to leave the show..that time Sanaya smiled and you know what i felt the smile was.. i could read it as Sanaya thinking in her mind "seriously ridiculous/What crap" :P :D

    1. Will come back with more comments on the intv later ... but I also feel that SP is more at fault than Gul, for quite a few things. And no one can say anything about SP, they are the big bosses and everyone - PH, actors, everyone, depend on them. But this cast and crew were very close knit, so they do know the issues, hence they are sticking up for each other.
And yes, agree with Su too ... Mamaji got sidelined because Mamiji became unexpectedly popular ... and Payash, or Akash, got sidelined because NK became very popular ... Karan said on the last day that he was originally signed for a ONE MONTH cameo, and he landed up staying a year. So I wish people who bash Gul for signing Barun for "only" one year, would remember that, and realise that's standard practice in soaps ... things change along the way, nothing is fixed. No wonder Payash decided to leave, and NK was happy to stay on ...
Actually Ekta's interview, which Jaya posted on the last post, was quite interesting in this respect ... haven't had time to comment on that one (and might not for a few days - Chinese NY holidays here)

I found Sanaya quite smart for guiding the interview along ... Gul was far less comfortable with her than with Barun ... I think not only did she not give Khushi much importance in the show, but also she didn't give Sanaya much thought ... she was obviously more comfortable with Barun, while with Sanaya, she was fumbling, didn't know much what to ask, she tried to take the interview into controversial topics, and Sanaya managed to guide it back, and keep it light-hearted and non-serious. The bashing Barun comment was in that vein ... more like, 'Gul was blamed for 'forcing' Barun to leave? How about blaming Barun for wanting to leave in the first place?!' ... and then they left the topic. Which is okay as far as I'm concerned ... it's pretty clear that Barun did leave of his own accord and nobody in the cast and crew harbours any ill-feelings towards him for that. Sanaya did emphasize again, which she always has, that the cast and crew was the best she has ever worked with, and no one had any issues of screen space or importance ... considering that she and Barun were way ahead of the rest in the popularity stakes, and Anjali was supposed to be a main character, I think that's saying a lot. Even when Payash left due to lack of screen space or importance, it seems they harbored no grudges or ill-will towards anyone, they came back happily for the end party, so did Mamaji.
Will be back with more later :) Most important aspect for me, which they didn't talk much about :( ... was Sanaya's plans, and when she thinks she will return ... now she's off to the US, it will be for a month or so at least, I would guess ...

  4. Hey all!! So today i finally found time for blogging. how are you all? i haven't watched TV much and hence had nothing to contribute to all the discussions :) so theres no news of sanaya's comeback yet and hence no hurry to rush back to tv. i saw saraswathi chandra's promo, who is the heroine? jennifer winget?

anyway hoping all is well with everyone!! i'll try to drop in more often :)

    1. Hey Krish, good to see you back ... same is the haal with most of us, we're just waiting for news of Sanaya's comeback. MB and QH seem to be the only other shows worth discussing even a little ...

Yes, Jennifer is in Saraswatichandra ... am planning to give it a watch. The sets and general look of the show is interesting, although I feel Saraswatichandra will be 'ideal' hero material ... found the promos a bit cheesy. But it's interesting that BW seems to be waking up to the reach of TV ... so many stars come to promote their movies, and the number is growing every day ... Tusshar wants to 'switch' to tv if he gets a good role ... bhai, BW mein kya gul khila raha hai, that he thinks he can call the shots on telly? ... and now a director like SLB turning to television, and ready to pump in a lot of money and attention. Hopefully this might lead to some improvement in the quality of TV programming, if you have directors of that stature coming in. Their name is enough to guarantee some viewership, and channel and TRP pressure will not be so overpowering for them, at least initially.

  7. Thanks, BLE ... guturgutur reminded me of only one person *ROFL*

Posted edited links of the IWL show with only the Sanaya Karan parts ... honestly, they were the only ones worth watching, except for a nice dance to 'haal kaisa hai janaab ka' by some unknown pair, which I think was an old segment from a dance show! Zee seems to have the worst onscreen couples!!! Some of the segments were also old, taken from the shows.

Anyway, it was so good to see Sanaya again onscreen ... made my day! And this girl can look good with any decent costar - and make him look good too!!! SP had better wake up and smell the coffee - either they give her a lead role in a new show pretty darn quick, or some other channel will snap her up!!!

    2. Dia,

Zee has the worst couples and Karan-Sanaya rocked the show. Karan has a good fan following with Zee audience especially his show on Zee was hit. I just hope Zee casts Sanaya in one of their shows. SP seems to be sleeping and not waking up and is banking too much on SC. I don't want Sanaya to wait for SP to cast her in a new show. She would do well on Zee too but only shiddat is that it better not be a saas-bahu show with the Ekta kapoor twists. Rest I can live with. Zee had such good shows once upon a time like 'Kareena Kareena' - a love story but with touch of humor and I think the lead is now an established top actresses in punjabi film industry. Wish Sanaya comes in that kind of shows - halke pulke entertaining shows.

    3. Sanaya and Karan were good.
I felt it was an averagely scripted show.

And there was no flow. It looked like a bad collage of various segments to me. The makers could have done much better. I enjoyed Sanaya's segments, the few seconds of Asad and Zoya........(Actualy I loved their bickering, felt that was th eonly thing that did not look fake in the show. Everything else was too mushy.)

      What else did I like?
The rab ne banaa di jodi- nicely done romances.
      Lag jaa gale
      Kanhaiya and his housewife.
      Sugni and Thakur Malik.
      Pavitr Rishta couple.

Rest was all painful to watch. (Special mention of Hai Raama in the mud by Yash- Aarti. I don't mind the mud romance, but the execution was pathetic. I think Kritika is a bad dancer or they have a bad choreographer. There is absolutely no fluidity in her movements.)

And they interspersed those dances from the Award shows...the whole thing looked very disjointed.

      Delete
    4. Lag jaa gale ... it was from the show - from the PV-QH sangam.
Sugni and Thakur Malik ... also from the show, O Re Piya was their song.
PR rishta couple - I thought Ankita looked quite horrible with that hairstyle ... it aged her tremendously. Didn't notice the dance much.
I noticed the 'Main agar kahoon' song ... don't know the couple, but the choreography was nice, especially the way they ended it with that glass bowl.

Rest ... didn't notice, they were boring, and the couples were indistinguishable. Fortunately I watched online, so could skip. Using old segments was meh ... one could make out so easily that they were from other shows. It was nowhere near even the SP specials - and the SP specials are nothing too great - think Diwali and SP Tyohaar ... but their presentation and editing is much better by comparison!
Karan and Sanaya were the only interesting part of the show ... they brought some freshness and humour ... so did Asad-Zoya.

    5. Dia,

'PR rishta couple - I thought Ankita looked quite horrible with that hairstyle ...'

I don't know who I was watching...I don't know the show or the actors. But there was a rain dance and another one where the couple look at other couples...teenagers, middle aged and oldies...and imagined themselves...was cute.

All the while I actually remembered Mona and thought she'd hate all the Zee shows...LOL.

Actually, I was surprised that they do this bollywood lifting regularly...May be all channels do, it is just that I don't see those shows. MB did, Behna did, PKDH lifts Rajshri's own songs...must be a pretty regular thing in Serial world?

      Delete
    6. I don't think either of those was Ankita - she was the one with a funny dress and a horrible big bun ... that was what aged her about ten years! She danced with Hiten, that's how I recognised her, but she looked quite different - she's a very pretty girl, typical Maharashtrian.

Yep, all shows do songs now quite regularly ... DMG had two original songs, which were both really lovely actually, try googling them - one was the title song, which had peppy and sad versions, both were very good, the other was Ishq leta hai kaise imtihan (something like that). Miley Jab Hum tum had two original songs - the song and Gunjan's realisation song ... Gunjan's song was lovely - Kya Hua yeh ... will try to find the link and post ... but the rest of the songs on the show were all BW.

I haven't watched MB or Behna enough to know whether they have any original song ... many shows have only original title songs. DABH and Sajda had/have very nice title songs. Behna title song is not original of course, it's from the BW song ... but I think Maanvi-Virat had an original song.

BALH title song is from a Rajshri movie, but they've added more lyrics for the show.

    7. For Su,
Gunjan's realisation song from MJHT ... ignore the terrible wig! And notice the body language, the shy looks and the soft voice ... so completely different from Sanaya herself! :D She said once that Gunjan is not even 1% like Sanaya ...

    8. Somehow Star one shows had very good songs - infact original songs. I don't know how many of you saw Remix on Star one - it was the one which slotted Karan Wahi into teenage heartthrob and it was a college story with Priya wai, Raj Arora, Karan Wahi and Tia(I don't remember her name but she was in DMG as Abhi modi's lover). They had few very good songs. Try googling Remix songs and you should get it. Also I love RBO(Rang badalti Odhani) title song. I think it was composed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy. In MJHT I love the song that Gunjan sings on the stage and the title song. In DMG the ishq leta hai has been literally reused to the max times but the song is so good that you don't feel fed up. That and the title song sung by Sonu Nigam were too good. Somehow Star one had good shows. No idea why SP closed that channel and got LifeOK in its place and LifeOk is like the other channels that are on air now. At least Star One had distinctive youth appeal.

Thanks for the link. The song is beautiful, the picturisation is also very good. That final touch of the flowers falling on her and Samraat there...all in all, very nicely done. Where is THIS TEAM? I know Nissar and Hitesh were part of this team, but where are the rest? Why don't they get their golden girl back?

After watching Welcome, Gul's interview and Zee, I am getting a little scared. I thought she was best in the interview. Welcome drowned her in the cacophony of those idiots and Zee came up with a college- standard skit. Is there any one out there who can do JUSTICE to this actress? I don't want to see her as MB or Baalika Vadhu or in any of the current hit shows.

      Wanted to ask you something.

They were both sung by Sonu Nigam ... no wonder!!!

Sarada, I never watched Remix, a few of my DMG and MJHT friends did, and they loved it. Never watched RBO either, I do remember the song was nice.

    11. Su, as a character, I liked Gunjan better ... any day. For one, her characterisation was consistent from start to end, and there was a slow and steady character growth, with absolutely no OTT stuff at all. And Sanaya's acting as Gunjan was very subtle and understated, she gave the quiet nerdy shy girl a beautiful grace and dignity. Secondly, and probably what attracted me to Gunjan in the first place was that she was very like me :) ... quiet and nerdy and shy in school and college, and I loved that despite her shyness, Gunjan was very firm on what she believed was right or wrong, and stood by it. Also as she developed, she became more confident and able to hold her own, and that growth was traced very beautifully and consistently. There was none of that regression and jumping back and forth that Khushi showed.

MJHT was by Sunshine - Seema and Sudhir Mittal, the same team that has done Na Bole Tum. Nissar was with them, he cast Sanaya as Gunjan. GH wrote for them. I heard that Sunshine might be doing a show for SP ... but haven't heard any further news on that. If that happens, I would be very happy if they called Sanaya. But you're very right ... there is a serious dearth of GOOD shows on air, which can do justice to a talent like Sanaya's, and hone it further. I can understand her taking time to find a new show ... it would literally have to be something written expressly with her in mind ... having seen the way she can flit from comedy to romance to emotion to serious, and from small town to big city sophisticate ... much like Ekta waited for Ram Kapoor for BALH. Nothing currently on air is anywhere what I would like to see Sanaya in.

If Veera goes the way I anticipate, then that is one possibility - village girl sent to city to study and returns to her village to fulfill her father's dream.

The other one I would have loved to see is the story they had chalked out for Khushi after Arnav's death ... widow forced to step into her dead husband's shoes and take over the responsibilities of the family ... a new guy enter her life, and her struggle between attraction to a new man, and her faithfulness to her dead husband's memory ... while handling the challenge to the business. It could have been fantastic! I still think that would be the best thing SP could do - do it as a new show completely, not IPK2.

    12. Dia, Remix is one of the kind of the show which ever came on Indian TV. Granted it was copy of hit brazilian show but it was too good. It is gang of 4 friends who are studying in a college and form a band.

      - Karan Wahi - He is from Sanganeer, Rajasthan and he comes to the school to extract revenge from Tia Ahuja as he believes her dad Sumit Ahuja was responsible for his father's suicide.

      - Tia Ahuja - A pompous air head, full of herself but has the heart in the right place and is the ladli of her dad Sumit Ahuja

      - Priya Wai - She is a teenage rebel daughter of a big shot film actresses. The mom who played the actresses was too good.

      - Yuvi (Raj Arora):- Son of a politician who wants to play drums and do music.

All 4 form the Remix band and do it in college and they become popular. In this you have the typical M&B between Karan Wahi and Tia and Hot and spicy story between Yuvi and Priya wai. Loved this show. Especially the season 1. There were lot of good college incidents - especially how to stand up to your beliefs and how you should always have positive self esteem. This show was really unique. All of the characters have gone and done good work afterwards and most of them became hit due to this show. Ballika Vadhu's Anoop Soni is a teacher in this show. A guy who has a terrible past and is running away from it. Every character had a layer to it and the way it was peeled bit by bit made it a good viewing experience and the serial has lot of extra supporting cast and everyone was utilized perfectly. Something I really admired in this show. Every episode had most of the cast in the show. Made Karan the teenage heartthrob and he was too good in the show as the rugged guy who wants to hate the daughter of his father's murderer but ends up falling for her. A typical M&B.

    13. Dia,

      Ah! I knew it!
'Su, as a character, I liked Gunjan better ... any day. For one, her characterisation was consistent from start to end, and there was a slow and steady character growth, with absolutely no OTT stuff at all.':

That is why I felt you'll not like QH. I think you enjoyed IPK only because it was Sanaya.
You have repeated many times that you want to see women of substance... (Though I still consider Khushi and Zoya as women of substance...that is because I can accept the comedy as a break in between the serious tracks...and personally, I feel more happy watching Khushi and Zoya, than MB or Anandi...Anandi is boring for me, whatever she does. The whole story is written for her, but I cannot take so much of seriousness continuously. What attracted me to the tale was Jagiya's story...still keeps me attracted.

Yeah. The contrast between the characters is striking! And you said the team is doing NBT! Wow! That was the only show that came to my mind which was at least a little decent, problem is I like only Mohan there. It seems more like a hero- centric story again. So I hope Sunshine comes up with something for their sunshine girl.

Now, Gunjan...I agree, as a character she is more relatable to...very life- like.

The funny thing is, Gul keeps saying their stories are hero- centric, but when I watch her shows, I end up supporting the heroines. Her heroines are slightly mad, stubborn, but innocent and heroic...fictional, yet realistic. For eg. I can relate to a Zoya who is a genius hacker who is scatterbrained and tends to leave a mess after her...but her heart guides her...and she trusts her God will take her through. Ditto with Khushi- even though she was not a genius, she was blessed with better brains than ASR, when I see Zoya helping Asad...I feel it was intended to be so.

The guys are all flawed and it is like their ladies patiently take them through a journey of self- discovery.

With NBT and BV, I am interested only in the guys. And that is not enough to sustain my interest. That is why I get hooked on to Gul's stories.

IPK2 as not Arhi's story: they could still do it with K's twin sister and Dhruv...

"widow forced to step into her dead husband's shoes and take over the responsibilities of the family ... a new guy enter her life, and her struggle between attraction to a new man, and her faithfulness to her dead husband's memory ... while handling the challenge to the business. "

The widow could be K's long lost twin sister who comes for revenge in the misconception that Dhruv was responsible for her husband's/boyfriend's demise...yet there is something between them...They could keep the rest oif the team, sending Arnav and Khushi off to US with Payash. There is even a BFTP in Khushi's story here. :D LOL. I never give up!!!

    14. Sarada,

Finally! We agree on some things. *hugs*

Star One seems to have had better shows...

Life OK - they start off with promising shows...but hey deteriorate in no time- the Amrit and Nimrit tale for eg.

I asked this Q once before...why did Star wind up Star One and come out with a poorer version of the same?

      Delete
    15. Yes Su, finally we do agree on some things *hugs back to you*. I felt so bad when Star one was wrapped up and that too it was done in 15 days straight. No idea why they got LifeOk in its place and Madhuri was the spokesperson for the channel when it was launched. Of all the serials they launched I think only Mahadev is somewhat different - it is mytho but there also you have watering down of the character especially Parvathi. Rest all are bakawas shows. Now they are having reality shows like Welcome but seriously it was also a complete crap.

I think it is a tendency of the prime channels that they have sister channels which cater to niche audience like SAB TV is sister channel of Sony and SAB is complete fultoo comedy based channel. Maybe that is one reason for launching of LifeOk but for that Star One was better - Why wrap it up and come with a new name when the funda is saas-bahu only.

    16. "That is why I felt you'll not like QH. I think you enjoyed IPK only because it was Sanaya."

Hmm ... not true, actually. I STARTED watching IPK because it was Sanaya, for sure ... but a lot of things kept me hooked, the main one being the promise of a love story with a lot of emotional conflict in it, which was partly delivered. And part of that was due to the stupendous acting by Barun and Sanaya, especially in the first few months of the show, part was due to Khushi's characterization in the same first few months, and to Arnav's character - I could understand and empathise with him, because of the promise of that 'past' which failed to materialise, but which was shown in his eyes and in the Arnav-Anjali scenes.
And the main thing was that they showed Arnav Khushi as being strong, stubborn hot-headed characters with opposite ideologies ... neither one was weak. They watered down both the characters post hate marriage and especially post-kidnapping, they made Arnav puppydog and dumb, and Khushi OTT, but with brains - the contrast was too glaring and unbelievable, especially the swings in Khushi's character. And since I'm anyway more a fan of the female character, both in books and shows, that put me off. And Arnav's shatir dimaag had gone missing a long time ago! But Sanaya rescued it with her acting in the serious scenes, so that kept me hooked.

QH - I have not built any attachment to the characters at all, though Asad is better than Zoya here, because KSG is a better actor. Surbhi has improved from her earlier shrieky days, but her acting does not have that ability to touch the heartstrings. Look at Ratan in Veera - her held back tears make you feel her hurt ... her conflict is visible in her eyes, how she is struggling to hold back her love for Veera, struggling not to admit it even to herself ... I saw Zoya crying in QH, she had the best of camera angles, the single tear trickling out of her eye ... and it didn't touch me at all. I can feel Avantika's hurt in PKDH, but not Zoya's ... and I have seen less of PDH than of QH. OTT characters put me off, but if the OTT can be done without making it stupid, and if it can be balanced with good acting in the serious scenes, then I can like the character. That's why I can empathise with Asad to some extent, but Zoya for now leaves me untouched. So does Madhu in MB, for that matter - and RK too, VD is not a good actor in emotional scenes.

Hehe ... no wonder I never get attached to most soaps - I'm too critical! And I never get the heroine I want. So I usually laugh at them and move on!

      Delete
    17. Dia,

Hmm..I wonder if it is our subjective response to the characters...

Personally, I have NO PATIENCE for Ratan or Avantika... I cannot sympathise with either, because I feel they are both messing up their own lives. Despite being a woman, I can sympathise with their husbands. One is not at fault at all...(Agree he shouldn't have kept her sister's abortion from her...that is UNTHINKABLE between a husband and wife..but then, why did Preethi choose not to tell her sister? That bit does not make sense to me at all. Other than that, she seems to love to jump to conclusions about him, even when her heart wants to believe he might be innocent.) And anyone can see he is genuinely nice and she has ALWAYS BEEN BLIND to him.

Ratan...her husband was indeed unfaithful..and it is a pain to watch HIS child, the one he did not have with her...but she says she'd have forgiven him in the long run, he should've given her time.... If that happened...he had stayed back, she forgave him...what'd she have done with Veera...packed her off to an orphanage and lived happily ever after with hubby and son? I know it is very difficult...she is not perfect..there is conflict...it is a painful process...it is realistic...I simply wish she'd move on. Because THAT IS THE ONLY solution here. (Both 'taking a long time to forgive' and 'forgiving after two or three years ' are realistic to me- though the latter would take a really huge heart, and I prefer the latter.)

Zoya's pain...wrt her parents..., it is not the same as Khushi's. Khushi lost her mother at 8 years of age and took some time to accept Garima. Zoya lost hers at three years, and she has only a vague memory of what her mother had been like...she is an orphan in every sense, because she does not have an Amma or Bauji at all- even adoptive (since the show has mentioned only aapi and jeeju.) She has no one to call her own, not even her parents...even I DID NOT FEEL her pain much...all I felt was sympathy for an orphan...but it did not feel odd to me.

This is the difference I feel between Khushi and Zoya:
Khushi remembers, so her pain is more...she had a happy family until the accident happened. She was thankful for her adoptive parents...but probably never felt like she really belonged there. There was always a Payal to be compared with, and that made her loss even more painful. And she was reminded of their GOOD WILL time and again.

Zoya never had a happy family. Her father had left her mother...she has vague memories of her mother- knew she had been special for her..but it looks like there was no discrimination in her adoptive family, going by how she DEMANDS what is her right...she does not share her pain either...but her pain is less because she does not remember what was anyway not so perfect..and she was brought up with the full freedom to CHOOSE FOR HERSELF.

I hope the characterisation does not change- she does not start making sacrifices for her aapi- less likely, seeing HER FAMILY is not even on the screen any more.

      Delete
    18. Ah no, Su, we're deviating between acting and characterization again :)

Zoya ... you say her pain is less because she never had a happy family life, and she was too young anyway ... then what was that scene after the slap, when she runs to her room and cries, and then gives a monologue about her family and finding her father, or some such thing? I should have felt bad for her there, but all I felt was - why is she talking about her family now, when she should be feeling guilty about Dilshad and her role in the shooting ... was that poor dialogue choice or bad acting?
While if you see Khushi - her pain at being an orphan and missing her parents was barely given any dialogues or even much space, in contrast to Anjali Arnav crying copious rivers about being abandoned, when they actually had close family who adopted them ... but we felt Khushi's pain and feeling of loss easily. That is an instance of an actor rising above the script ... which is what San did.

And which is what Ratan does too - though her character is better delineated. I don't agree with you that she should move on ... I feel her situation is very realistic. Her husband made a mistake, she got furious - very understandable. She refused to listen to him, again understandable - here they were trying for a baby for the last so many years, and now she's presented with evidence of his unfaithfulness AND the much wanted child, who her husband and son want - but it's not hers.
And on top of that, her husband leaves and is never heard of again ... and she is left with regrets that she was too harsh, she didn't give him a chance and she lost him - not only that, her son has lost a father he adored and needs. So she pledged that she would forgive Sampooran everything and accept Veera if only he would return - and it's that pledge that stops her from giving Veera her love ... a 'vehem' that she made this promise, now if she accepts Veera wholeheartedly, will it actually stop Sampooran's return? And will the fact that she has not accepted his daughter the way he wanted her to, force him back one day? Ratan is not a bad woman ... and any woman who brings up a child from babyhood would end up loving the child ... but she is deliberately stopping herself from showing Veera her mamta openly.
Besides, all said and done, Veera is a constant reminder of not only Sampooran's infidelity, but also the mistake Ratan made in being too harsh on him and sending him away.
Of course Sampooran is the most guilty party in all this, for abandoning his wife and kids.

Avantika - again I can sympathise with her - her husband and her own sister kept this huge secret from her - she was fully entitled to their confidence. And it hurts her to know that her own husband, her own sister didn't feel she should know. And then she gets a dolt of a DIL, who then asks her son and her own dad to keep the news of her son's marriage secret from her ... no wonder Avantika feels betrayed by her nearest and dearest. And she IS a very unforgiving kind of person, that is her character ... so while the characterization is a little wavy, the actress has portrayed it well enough for me to understand her POV. I may not sympathise with it completely, but I can see it.

Zoya so far, I can see only through Asad's POV because he is the better actor. So when he softens towards her, I do too ... when Zoya makes a mess of things, I lose sympathy!

    19. Su,

Ratan not completely moving on is central to the theme of Veera, if she were to become completely forgiving and accepting of her...it may probably dilute the essence of "anokhi ma" unless the screeplay writer can bring about the essential difference between Ranvi's love and her "love" for Veera.

But within that constraint, what i admire in the serial, is that the narrative has made the process of Ratan grudgingly accept Veera a very gradual aspect, its not a "eureka" thing...she accepts Veera as a consequence of an unpleasant episode in her life..obviously its far easier to "forgive" her husband for his doings and more difficult to accept the tangible consequences of that action. Its always said Forgiveness is not a thot its a deed...u can "forgive" any number of people in thot but it requires greater courage to "forgive" in deed. Sometimes we use the word forgiveness to say...i have moved from the hurt that the wrongdoer or any person wished upon me but it does not mean that the action of forgiveness has helped me internalise all the actions of the wrongdoer(or person causing hurt)

Ratan's characterisation has stayed true to this aspect and i see no deviation at any point till now....The story teller is saying she is finding it difficult to accept Veera...and the plot has borne true to why it is so...I wouldn't want to confuse our expectation with what the story is telling us..Its not about what i or u want from her..that may be different but to me as a viewer, i can understand why Ratan is who she is...

The rest of the discussion on other shows on the other post ... but for this one ...

      FOR DAYDREAMING PURPOSES ONLY :)))

Su, why then keep it related to Khushi Arnav at all? Make it a new story completely instead ... see, Payash (the actors) have got new shows, so has Abhaas ... Barun has left ...
So except for Anjali, all the main Arshi story characters are not coming back. If you do an IPK2, it will be torpedoed immediately with calls for Barun to return ...

So might as well do a new show completely - keep Sanaya, Daljeet as two sisters instead of nanad-bhabhi - Naniji and Utkarshaji as Nani and mom respectively, NK can be brother or a best friend who silently loves Sanaya ... similar to NK's character, which I loved ... he just did a cameo in another show, so he's free too. And a new lead ... there are quite a few candidates for that - Viraf has not entered Kaali, Harshad is free, Karan T's Behna is probably going to wind up soon ... any more?

  10. Watched Sanaya's interview with Gul...and i love this girl even more...what was Gul trying to do? there were uncomfortable/awkward silences in between that Sanaya tried to cover...

Sanaya made a lot of sense...my favourite part was about the positivity on the sets..everyone wished well for everyone..how often does that happen??

I don't think they blame BS for anything..they may have been upset but come on... its not a crime to want to do different things...

my first thought when Sanaya said people will move on..i think for regular, serious watchers of that show..that will be hard... i feel IPK will always be remembered..at least by me..and i will keep watching a few episodes here and there...

Even I noticed those silences...but they were there in Barun's iv too...she seemed to switch off in between, looked bored (more so with Barun, and not at all with Sanaya.)

Anyway, remembered this point from the interview...about the hut consummation- on the BDs.
"I am also doing the same, Sanaya..."

"Yeah, but it is different for a girl"

I went *head desk* when I heard that.
Of course, it is different for a girl. Did he require her to tell him that? No, I am not saying he is selfish...just a little dense in a cute sort of way...

And innoocent too...such things never occur to him. I better stop before Dia starts giving me that isspecial 'stern look'!

    2. Su,

When I heard Sanaya say that - 'Yeah but it is different for a girl' regarding the almost consummation in hut with BDs, I was like how dense can this guy be. All the time whenever I used to watch SBS/SBB segments I always felt Sanaya, Barun, Akshay, Daljeet and Abhaas were like gang of college friends and the way they used to pull each other and tease it was very friendly. I really am very happy that they were so comfortable with each other that they could talk about anything and everything. Sanaya was saying that she actually did faces when Barun was doing an crying scene and Barun gave the shot without any issue. When you are really good friends you discuss anything and everything very openly and hopefully the friendship stays the same even when they move on to different projects. The SBS/SBB IPK segments were too good and I really miss those offscreen segments. I used to tune in without fail for SBS/SBB whenever I could work from home just to see if there was any IPK segment.

    1. Ahem ... you are talking to a San fan ... I knew ages back that she had worn that dress (it's a dress!!!) on a Monaya interview! This was just after MJHT ended ... interesting to see that San hasn't changed much at all ... most of her statements about movies, her own struggle etc are much the same ... I wonder if now she will define IPK as her major break, or it will still be Miley ... would think the latter, because it was Miley that slotted her firmly into the role of a lead heroine. I remember that attitude of hers ... WHY am I not doing well, I may not be the best here, but I'm definitely not the worst ... that drive to prove herself, coupled with her down to earth nature, will take her places! When people put her down, it just pushes her to do better and prove, to herself more than anyone else, that she can do more. She's a fighter, this girl - God bless her!

    2. dia, seeing san then.. (this is the first time i am seeing that iv) the first thing i notice is how much more confident she is now.. second thing..the videography by hrishikesh gandhi in the new iv.. third thing.. how fidgety mohit is, while he is patiently waiting while sanaya is talking.

      Delete
    3. Yep, she's much more confident now for sure ... what I feel is that during MJHT, they were all four - Mohit, Sanaya, Arjun, Rati - all pretty much at the same level in terms of being small stars on a small channel, their first big show which got them noticed, (I've watched the SBS segments through most of MJHT), and all were equally talkative and interactive with the media. Mohit was the newest, he was quiet at the start, but later he opened up and became as talkative as Sanaya and Arjun.
And this is something I'm realising now ... I think San had to take over as spokesperson with the media with IPK because Barun is much quieter and less verbose, plus of course her growing popularity on a much bigger platform, the foreign trips - three within a span of six months where she was the de facto spokesperson ... she had to talk, because she was the only one. In Miley, there were four of them. And I can see the change in the way she talks - she was much more chirpy and bindaas in those days ... now she's more confident for sure, but now, she's more mature, and knows what to say when ... except when she's caught off guard in an emotional moment like the unexpected ending of IPK ;)

Ah, and speaking of Miley ... I wish Aaru and Mads were here, because they would understand EXACTLY what I mean ... I was feeling rather happy about one more thing in Ishq Wala Love ... that San took place of honor on a channel where she has not even acted :))) And certain fan groups are rather disgruntled about that :)))
      Don't mind me ... I'm being wicked :D
