  1. Veera:
little veera has some pithy dialogues.. the double meanings totally take away the enjoyment of the scene. saw a scene where veera made a picture of her, veer and chaiji. 'you never hold my hand' and 'dad is invisible'.. hmm.

  2. Madhubala:
caught today's epi, not the previous ones. RK and biwi are okay at last.madhu does not want to get her mom and mallik married. good showdown.. i liked it. naraaz the next day.. cute. I loved how RK was the same angry RK, not simpering fool in front of biwi. and she explains in clear terms why she is upset... not like old time heroines, expecting hubby to read their mind. aand he pulls her into a hug. sweet.(though the editing there was bad). is it just me or has DD lost weight? she looks awesome.

very cute scene where he tells bittuji that "you'll understand when you get married". and then, 'i'll get you married to whatever walks in the door next" and the expressions on their faces when someone knocks.. priceless!

now madhu's father looks demented.. is he really, or is he acting like that with an ulterior motive? the onlooker crowd had our old 'mohan' and his kohled gang.. aww i miss IPK.

will 'dad' flirt with trisha? hmmm nailbiting tension.

    1. hey J,

good to see you - been so low and dull without anyone posting! well i for one am really enjoying Madhubala - everyone else except dipali and the leads are worth a fast forward watch - but love these three - really love the hero - his characterization is perfect and consistent and love his dialogues! - even when he is lovey-dovey he is funny!

loved how he asked MB to think like a woman and not a girl when talking about her parents - very true - to her her parents are perfect and don't need a relationship coz they are just so complete but he is thinking like a man - why should poor malik not get a wife - a woman he can love like a wife without feeling bound by the constraints of a 'friendship'! and why should the mother not get the comfort of a husband! (but the fact that she wears sindoor for the creep has never won points with me - she is quite comfortable about ordering Malik around but has never thought of what the guy might want?) - seriously, my feminism has gone for a toss :D:D:D

like that MB still has a temper - just like the hero - i think this is how the story will progress - there have been innumerable references to MB being a 'female' RK - so that's what is going to happen - whenever tragedy will strike - she will stand tall and arrogant - just like the guy of her dreams

now this is the best comedy i have watched in a while. the herogiri, the OTT background score..
this week was a recreation of our hero falling in love. so he rabba ve'd yesterday.

he is sorry he sent her to a situation that got her in trouble, he went and rescued her, she and everyone else is mad that he caused that situation.. (sound familiar?).. asa dsent zoya to apologise to akram. he drugged zoya and forced a nikaah on her.. thankfully, asad landed just in time to stop her from saying qubool hai. then krrish model herogiri later (ROFL worthy, if you take a dekko at 25 dec episode) he carried her home.. they call each other by their first names, a really sweet lovesong in his head, he feels so protective about her..banda pighal gaya i swear!

on the other side, shireen's birthday is being celebrated by her kids, rashid is asked to get the cake from a bakery , dilshad chances to meet him there..

she talks to him, tells "i am used to living alone now, no interest in changing my lifestyle now.. you chose money over love 17 years ago, now i forgive you.. but dont expect anything else." and turns to go. rashid's low BP spiked (ROFL) and he falls down, dilshad screams raaashid and a doc on scene treats him, tells them dont fight so much if youre holding hands anyway.. and they find that they have unconsciously held hands.. she pulls, he leaves.. and rashid returns home with birthday cake for shireen.

somewhere in the middle, i think humeira and ayaan's wedding got fixed.. did that happen?

    1. hehe - i so agree - but at least the story is progressing - though i did think (like Asad) that Zoya owed the bad boy an apology and with all her - 'i am a super woman track' - did not think she needed an escort!
also liked the little touches about the hero calling up the bad guy's family (cant remember his name) and then tracing the phone-call (though how a general architectural firm could do that without police support is beyond me!!)

the only time the feminist in me is all alive again is when i see the SSW!! what has he ever done to deserve such lovely kids???? even now they defend him!! idiot! cant stand SSW and can never feel sorry for him - no matter what

    2. J!
Yeah, it was a recreation of the guest house scene, right?
I was laughing when I made the correlation- I am having fun seeing the parallels between IPK and QH. BUt she gave it a different touch, so that much due for her creativity.
Ayan and Humeiraa- I don't think Ayan has still acknowledged his feelings- he still takes it as friendship, I guess. Looks like the parents fixed up the wedding, going by Raziya's "do you need any more proof?"
Actually I am enjoying the comedy so much my first thought on Asad taking Zoya up to her room was , "where is phoophi and Najma? Why are they not fussing over her now?". See how you all have corrupted me!

      Mona,
I was a little bugged with the kidnap epis, so his shatir dimag was totally lost on me. Thanks for pointing it out.

    3. Mona, SSW is putting me off the show big time. In fact but for Zoya Azad track, I'm not liking any other track, including Ayan Humeira (although the track itself is interesting and a lesson for all gullible girls who indulge in chating with strangers in the net) I just can't stand the mediocrity of the two actors. I wish they concentrate more on Nukat's marriage, instead. Am sure it is going to be high on drama, what with the demands of the greedy Mil to be. I bet Zoya is going to put her in place. Maybe rashid invites her to attend the wedding and she does what she is best at.

Agree with Usha that gul has to remove herself from direction. The scene where Zoya faints on Azad was so artificial.

      Delete

    4. Opti,
I mute SSW. He is the only character I cannot stand. A person trying to ride two boats at the same time is bound to fall in between, falling between two stools as they say.
But sometimes I feel gul's stories take off on what she could not explore in her previous.
In Geet, she cold not explore the ex's in maan's life and so she started ipkknd with arnav having a girlfriend etcetera.
IN ipkknd, the father actually was married to arnav's mother and was having an affair with another woman. Suppose they had been alive, what would have been the implications on that story. So here that is what you are seeing.

      Delete
    5. Opti/Usha - i know - i don't listen to SSW either - in fact i fast-forward him!!! i got to know through Su's update what Dilshad held his hand! the minute she had screamed 'Rashid" - i had pressed the FF button!!

and Opti i hope he does fall and fall hard - that he is trying to ride in two boats is perfectly correct and what irritates me no end is that he is still about all that he wants - so now he feels guilt - so HE wants forgiveness - which by the way still comes without responsibility of providing for his family or apologizing to his kids! (in fact he does not even mind accepting gift horses! - remember the gifts Asad got for the sister)!! SSW!!! And the audacity of saying i could not sleep for a week - how about the Years he left her alone!!

    6. Mona,
I so agree with every word. Hi5 to the FFing. I am scared to see direct because then I have to actually see his crocodile tears.

    7. Jaya,
I happened to catch this QH episode as my mom was watching it - and the only thing I could think of was - OMG they reused Khushi's wedding lehenga for Zoya!!!

And that you girls at R&R must be tearing the PH apart - did that already happen :)

      Delete
    8. Sri, yes, it was khushi's wedding attire, but as mona pointed out, they had stitched sleeves on.. and actually, iss pyar has ended.. its not like they have a museum where they are gonna stash all the costumes and props.. (like that gopikrishna painting and that devimaiyya statue)..

already, the other costumes were seen on colors.. arnav's rewedding suit (i have to say it suited mohan more than sobti) , the 'iloveyoudammit' red lehenga(sadly, did not match madhubala at all) their jewellery , their sarees, lehengas, they were all .. just... costumes.

if they can re-use the jeep and SUV, they can re-use the costumes too. i'm okay with it. just today, watched ayan got kidnapped and 'met' the big old raleigh fan in the background. and i felt a bit nostalgic, but well..our show has ended. never thought i'd say this so soon, but i'm almost over it. as long as i dont watch any videos, i'm fine.

    9. Jaya - Yep IPK has ended - and watching QH is like a watching a parody of IPK - total turn off for me ...just brought home the point again how Sanaya was the magnet of IPK- I mean I like KSG, he is a good actor and is on par with BS in my mind - but the girl playing Zoya just does not connect even though she is closer to my liberal and thinking than Khushi ever was :)Waiting for a new serial with Sanaya

Happy New year to all of you :)

  4. Jaya,

I too am enjoying qubool hai and how much ever I like Zoya, now I keep wanting and imagining sanaya as Zoya. The expressions fall that little bit short, though the character I like. And I am liking asad as well. Compared to everything else, this is what I am finally watching :-)
Gul needs to keep a tight leash on direction and continuity. Characterisations are good, she needs a better director than herself.

  5. I love Veera unconditionally, the show as well as the kid. She is giving a trough competition to the guy playing Ranvijay. In fact the entire cast of Veera, with the help of an able script, are so good in what they do that it is impossible not to love the show. Jaya, I love Veera's dialogues. She was being matter of fact when she said that her mom never holds her hand and her dad is invisible. Love how she offered her entire dumb box to get the chunni for her bheeji and later deftly bargained with the shopkeeper, asking him to reduce his one rupee price, not realising it was low enough (a special price for a special kid). It is good to see the entire village warm up to Veera after the manner they shunned her as a baby. Loved Ranvi for being firm with Veera and telling her that she should never accept anything without paying for it. Good lessons for kids. Wonder what will happen to the kids now that they are alone in a stormy night.

  7. QH: Monday and Tuesday, Gul got on my nerves. On Wednesday, she made up for the two sloppy epis- everyone talked! And I like dialogues better than the stunts. (Though the stunts are much better than the IPK ones, I must say. In 2 months, Gul has had 4 stunt sequences. Mind you, she is an angry woman!)

Rashid meets Dilshad at the cake shop (just when he thought he should give up pursuing his first wife and stop hurting Shireen- sab kismet ka luck hai, is mein kya shaq hai???)- so he starts with his fav line- kismet keeps bringing us together. Dilshad has a wonderful explanation for that- maybe kismet feels that there was some kami in the beizzati she suffered at their last meeting.(Dialogue of the day.)

Rashid apologise and tells her he has not slept well for the psat week because of the beizzati she suffered. Dilshad retorts that if her beizzati made him sleepless, he should not have slept for the past 17 years! Reminds him that he left her and the children for money back then.

Oh! That thought had not crossed his mind? He asks Dilshad if she’d be able to forgive him; “would you, If you were in my place”, she asks.

She walks away and the sudden weight of guilt is too much on Mr. Rashid’s soft heart and low BP- he faints. She returns (err..holds his hands…any way, she leaves him with the promise that she has forgiven him. Now, can we leave it at that please? Sigh…)

The other interesting convo was between Ms. New York and Mr. Khan. She tells him what is exactly wrong with him- he is too traditional for a man of his education (sadly, you see)- he judges people by the clothes they wear (that he does), and he thinks she deserves whatever she got because she invites troubles on herself by wearing jeans. (Hmm.. now I wouldn’t accuse him of that, but it added a lot of colour to her dialogues- so forgiven, my dear girl.)

Ha! Gul loves her heroine, so she gets pampered a lot by phoophi (could someone translate it for me- aunt?) and Najma- enough to make them forget to serve Jahanpanah 6 packs his dinner. Ahem.. so , Mr. Khan takes the first lesson in self sufficiency- learn to serve your food yourself. Next lesson is learn to say the 3 words (I am sorry- in case you did not know) AT THE RIGHT TIME. Zoya does not appreciate belated apologies.
And in case he was even thinking about the other three words, (which he is in his poor unsuspecting subconscious), don’t even think about it. This heroine is not sitting around moping- she is planning revenge, it seems.

    1. Su,
It took me a whole summer for Learning Hindi names for relations
So father's sister is called bua and bua's husband is called phoopha.
Now bua can also be called phoophi as in phoopha's wife.
But maybe here it s some relation or cousin or door ki sister from father side and hence phoophi.
      My two cents :-)

  8. In Madhubala RK is confusing me at present. He is keen to get Mallik and Madhu's mom married because he feels they will be lonely after the kids leave them and that is a valid point. As long as Madhu and Trishna were there, they had the excuse of the girls to keep them bonded. With Madhu getting married and Trishna also settling down in future, they may not have the excuse of the girls to be together. So RK wants them to get married so that there is a stronger bond that ties them to each other, with or without the girls. Since they obviously care so deeply for each other, it appears as a logical step for him. It also gives a social standing to their bond.

Unlike ASR, RK does believe in the institution of marriage and his hate mock marriage was to humiliate Madhu and not the institution per se. This is why as soon as he realised that they both love each other deeply, he himself volunteered to right his wrong by telling her that they will take their relationship to the next level only after he has tied the knot with her as per all the rituals. So when he suggested that Mallik and Pads should get married, he was only expressing his wish to see them united in a holy bond which has both social sanction and will also personally gives comfort, security and love.

This part I can get. What I cannot understand is if marriage means so much to him and he has no qualms or rather he himself is encouraging her parents to get married knowing that her mom is still married to her first husband and has not yet been divorced, why is he so angry with his mom for getting married again, that too after his father died?

Initially I thought that he felt betrayed because his mom put another man ahead of him, her beloved son. But here RK himself wants Pads to move on with another even while resenting his mom for doing the same thing. Wonder whether there is much more than just remarriage for his disgust. Did his step dad try to physically abuse him and his mom, knowing it, was a mute spectator? I think at some point they need to address this. Maybe they can have Madhu ask him why does he have problems with his mom's remarriage when he wants her mom to get married so that she would have somebody after she has left.

As far as marriage is concerned Madhu seems to have a different view altogether. From her behaviour so far, it appears that she already considers herself as RK's wife, even when all the rituals have not been fulfilled. I doubt she would protest if RK wants to be intimate with her for as far as she is concerned it would be a natural culmination of their relationship but she wouldn't initiate it on her own, knowing that RK wants everything in order before they take this step. When she fought for his life, she did so as a fierce wife for her husband. She kept the KC vrat for her 'husband' even when he reminded her that he wasn't her husband. All the rituals in this world would not bind her to him if she did not already love him. In other words, for her the relationship of the heart is stronger than all the rituals. This is why she felt it was an insult to her parents to even think that they need to be married to keep caring for each other. To her, the relationship between them is too pure and may get tainted if it has to acquire the colour of marriage and that too for the sake of the society. She has only seen their care for each other but I guess RK has seen the love they have hidden for each other and wants to give it a name. Once Madhu sees that love she too may encourage them to get married but I hope she does draw out the truth behind RK's resentment of his mom's remarriage before she does that.

Jaya, agree with you that DD looks fab but I don't think she lost weight. She always had a good figure. VD's eyes are more expressive these days and enhancing his acting. As it is his dialogue delivery was always good.

    3. hi opti, long time no see!
I did not think RK was being a hypocrite..
RK was thinking what every normal man thinks after seeing a pair, living as a couple, with a no name rishta. before, he can say that yeah, i'm a family friend.. etc.. but when both madhu and trishna are out of the pic, mallik cannot live with padmini and call it a 'family' friendship.. M-P are already living together..

and mona, a woman wears ms and sindoor for the longevity of her husband (i guess) so paddu did indeed run away from old husband, but does not want him to drop dead.. hence not stopped wearing the symbols.

RKs mom was widowed and single.. okay, the boy rishu cannot understand why his mom could not have stayed single, assuming that she was wealthy after her husband died. and CK is older than RK.. so being thrust into a combined family situation must have been traumatic for him..

and like RK said, madhu was looking at her 'parents' with a little girls eyes... and rishu, it seems to me, is looking at his 'parents' with a little boy's eyes.

      Delete
    4. but jaya - that's what i do not understand - aren't MS and sindoor symbols of a sacred bond - of love, of togetherness - then if you hate your man to the extent that you cant stay with him - you flee from him - his memories still fill you with terror - then why wear these symbols??

    1. DD is plumper than Sanaya, although she is slim. She is more curvy than Sanaya and yes her face is chubbier. One can see the difference in their figures in the saree scenes. 10. Su,
Phuppi / Phuppo – is aunt – father’s sister and coz of the constant references to her mother, I too cant understand why she calls Dilshad - phuppi and not khala (khala is mothers sister)
And the dialogue of the day (make it the week) for me was –“so then you should not have slept for 17 years!!”
Opti – I don’t think RK is confused – he is pretty clear, see it this a ways – to him Malik and MB’s mother have been friends who have shared special bond for years – for years they have depended on each other (she got more than him though) – he knows the first marriage is long over and actually MB’s mother fled from him so there is no question of her ever going back (though why she continues to wear sindoor is besides me!) and Malik has been the true gentleman all these years – RK can see that – RK can see Malik the father, nah God like figure to the girls deserves to have an equal partner.
NOW then why did he not accept his mothers marriage – his mothers marriage was to a guy he could not respect, let alone love (and he respects Malik) – his mothers marriage was a replacement for an excellent father – a complete man (whereas Malik WAS/IS the excellent father and the complete man) – he sees a sea of difference between the two relationships – something that Madhu does not – to her, her parents are asexual, don’t need anything further then trust and friendship – but RK is more practical! Also Madhu too seems to be equating the two marriages hence her reference to RK apologizing to his mom

  11. Just caught yesterday's episode of QH:

Wish i could add a few more S's and W's to SSW's title - what a creep - he still gets off easy coz of his kids - and Ayaan is really sweet whereas the father is a jerk!!!!

Loved the Asad and Dilshad dialogues - gives more dept to Asad - he has a reason for perceiving people with a prejudice - have a feeling (referring to old flashbacks) - Zoya reminds him of his dad - she is like him - music lover, carefree (17 years ago wala guy) and Asad is like his mom hence her taste for cleanliness etc - so opposite will attract again!

Sorry but cant like zoya - and for no fault of her own - i keep comparing her to SI and she pales in comparison big time! (Also cant stand litter bugs - that too guests who are this dirty!!!)

    1. Mona,

That is what I said in earlier comment that nowadays every time zoya's face is shown, I want more depth in her reactions, basically I want sanaya. The character is very well written. Sanaya made khushi so believable and loveable, you accepted her reasons for doing something. I want that in Zoya. She should make me close my eyes and believe everything she says and not as if she is nly mouthing something. Her comedy is okay but anger and reactions are not.

    2. Mona,
I am actualy glad every time Shireen gets hurt. By now it is evident that Dilshad gave Rashid permission to wed Shireen and Asad and Ayan were brought up together for some time. That means they all stayed together. (Asad mentions that Ayan started walking holding his fingers.) So Shireen must know that what happened to Dilshad was unfair.

And this woman has no idea about what Dilshad has gone through. She is sweet enough to acknowledge that Asad and Najma are her husband's children too and he has every right to love them. But when it comes to Dilshad she is insecure.

If Shireen was once the other woman in Dilshad's life, now Dilshad is the other woman in Shireen's life. I think justice is being served.

Zoya: Yeah, she is a litter bug and quite irritating too. I guess she is a genius ( a techie- whiz who can put unbreakable codes in Asad's phone and install security system all by herself with a little help from the 'ello' chinese guy!) and geniuses are usually veryyyy scatter brained....and someone has to pick after them all the time. I guess she makes up for it by baking cakes and getting play tickets and genuinely caring for her hostess and (strictly) her daughter. In fact, I was wondering at Usha's comment: when has Zoya been serious? I find her comical all through! Even when she talks about her mom's earrings her dialogues are all funny. OFC, San would have rocked. But Surbhi is not bad at all, I feel.

I was bugged with Gul for that scene- I thought it was unwarranted. On second watch, I feel it was intended to be comical.

I keep wondering where Gul is taking this couple. Zoya is too street smart for Asad. And besharam also. She makes fun of the guy after catching him in embarassing situations. I actually feel bad for Asad- he is the persecuted here.

Raziya and Shireen catch Ayaan and Humeiraa fooling around with the ring. She sees romance where there is none. Asad for the second time refuses to divulge Zoya's identity to Ayan. Where are they going?

  15. MB - am so enjoying a hero who is well etched and talks!!! Voices his ideas, concerns and even his insecurities - not a great actor in the emotional scenes but live his comic timing and clear diction - also like that he has a brain - seems like he is about to act on it too and get a divorce for MIL!

  16. was wondering why no one noticed the marks on Zoya's hand during the forced wedding shots - and then i realized that the CVs had very considerately stitched sleeves to KKG's wedding choli! (of course they forgot that cholis are not normally worn in muslim households - we wear qurtas - but what the hey)

is it only me or does anyone else get irritated with KKG's stuff being recycled? did not like that Nazma chick wearing KKG's earnings!!!

    1. That whole episode was very slopily done. I did not bother to rewatch. They definitely used BDs for some shots, probably since Surbhi was injured.

Actually I wondered why they rushed through the wedding scene and did not focus on Zoya much. Ha! Now I know the answer. And I did wonder how Zoya ended up looking like a hindu bride!

  18. Did any one watch Nach Baliye? I did thanks to my niece and I am glad I did. May be this is what happens when you watch something with no expectations.ROFLMAO. It was better than any comedy show I have watched for some time. I thought I'd be irritated with the contestants, but no, the show has been directed and scripted very well.

The 3 best things about the show for me:

    1. Shilpa Shetty. I don't remember watching even one movie of hers. In fact I can only remember the songs from Dhadkan. She has a beautiful smile and great stage presence.

    2. Karan Waaaaheeeee... He is a real sweetie pie and he rocks as an anchor.

    3. DJ dollll!!!! Kaanta lagaa....Again I was never a big fan of hers, but somehow it was nice to see her back after a long break. And her sensuous dance moves!

  19. no Su, RK did not disrobe.. he was going to unbutton his shirt, but biwi oh so sweetly said "no need to take off your shirt, we're just oiling your head" .. and RK said that fangirls get starry eyed when they see Rk barechested.. and biwi told him "look in my eyes, do you see any stars? no na??" :P biwi ho to aisi.

asad took off his shirt.. whats new there? that guy KSG is besharam.. remmber the bathtub scene? gul is taking this couple on her usual mushroom picking route.. half the things in the story dont make sense, i'm now following it just for the laughter value. (and that too is getting difficult because their showtime is so odd and no night/evening repeat..

    1. J,
I like the husband- he is the Indu guy, right? If the time is right, I'll catch the repeat next day.

MB: She said that? Now, this is my girl! Good going!

QH: Gul is not directionless, I feel. Asad and Zoya are in no way comparable to Arhi, as characters or actors.
IPK was purely a love story, I expect QH to be many times less intense. Bath tub scene was funny, the disrobing- well it may have been for the trp, but there is only humour. It is like Gul does not want this couple to fall in love. And I wonder how they can. Their mitwaas are not rabba veys...not yet.

Zoya, The fearless entered Asad's bedroom in the stealth of the night to retrievee her precious earrings- Sleepy Asad mistakes her for Ayan and hugs her before sending Ayan off- now this scene was more in place. And even there, Asad has this look that says, "You are incredible! Tu kya cheez hai?" minus any romantic frills and Zoya turns the situation around before he can even question her. She announces that she will spread the word like wild fire that he meets someone every night in his room. Their reactions are knee jerk and comical. If it is really intended to be so, I guess we will know retrospectively.

The couch hug was different- there was subtle bit of passion on Asad's side there. So I think Gul knows how to create passion, she is stalling it for now.

    2. for one, rabba ve was an appeal to god.. "hai rabba, what are you gonna do with these two?" rather than a lovesong. so it made sense.

mitwa is more of a lovesong in asad's mind.. somehow underlines the fact that asad is attracted to zoya, while zoya remains unaware. now even if asad wants to fight that attraction, (i mean, have you looked at the aafat called zoya?) there will come a time , i guess, when asad has to choose and if he has the option,he will choose zoya.

    3. and su, hi5! i liked the indu guy too.. he was OTT but i could not understand why ruk jana nahi never got TRPs..

and did you guys hear that viraf Patel has been roped into Kaali as the lead? their young lead was a total zero.. and i will wait to see viraf on board.. though the show is again too draggingly slow for my liking.

      Delete
    4. Yes, J.

Even I feel Asad is going to get hit first. It is a pattern with Gul's heroes and I love that about her.
How will Asad love Zoya when she is not going to change over to traditional wear for any guy ever? I guess he will have to start loving the jeans-clad Z. I liked how Dilshad told him that he has this pic of the perfect girl in his mind and any girl who does not stick to his norms is wrong. And she urges him to look beyond the cover. I think that was the thurs epi. I loved it for all the dialogues. Can't pick one dialogue of the day from thurs. Most of them were really good.

Now I can see Asad agreeing to marry the 'pious girl' without either of them realising they are made for each other.

I guess Zoya has not seen the softer side of Asad - she has seen only the jahanpanah who loves to have his mom and sis waiting on him. When she gets to see the caring side of Asad (esp since he does not hide behind a mask unlike ASR and RK)- the guy who takes to the streets with his guitar- when that happens, Zoya will know she misjudged him too.

Caught a glimpse of genie and juju (I hope I got it right. Actually I thought Jiah was sitting jobless after JDJ)) on Sony Sab. She is doing a good job with the comedy. Her replacement in SNS sucks. And it shows on Ahem's face, I think.
Pity the channel does not have the same reach as SP.

So Zoya finally takes the situation in her hands and heats things up. And oh boy! Is he haawwtt when he is hot!
This couple will no doubt sizzle when the time is ripe.

Asad loses it and dumps the whole mug of coffe on the table..and proceeds to clean it up promptly much t Z's amusement.
And the symbolism was definitely not lost here- thou cleaneth the mess thou createth.
Zoya achieved what she wanted. But she woke the dragon. Now she has to pay the price for it- her earrings remain with jahanpanah.
And Asad Ahmed Khan learns how to deal with the aafat called Zoya Farooqui. Dhamki- license to kill!

'National security ka threat': I loved how this dialogue has been weaved in to the story. It was a jest remark by Ayan first.
Asad used the same words thinking he was speaking to Ayan.
And now Zoya puts everything together and mouths the very same dialogue before she declares Zil- ae- ilahi a secret agent!!!

Gul needs to make a new year resolution- she needs to cut down on the violence and go back to being the peaceful romantic girl she was before her baby was snatched away!
Jokes aside, I guess no director can resist it when KSG does his stunts soo well. I wonder who is the stunt director- it is pretty decent.
Did they borrow someone from Arjun? I liked how Ayan was hung upside down and him throwing away the helmet and the jacket- nice touch.
If 4 Lions keep this pace, very soon they will be coming out with an action movie, I suppose.

Speaking of resolutions, MB team needs to make a few ones too. I hope they have exhausted all their stock of glycerine by now and vow to buy no more this new year.
Madhu has used more glycerine in one week than Baaalika Vadhu in all her 1000 plus episodes put together.
If they are having a competetion with SNS, someone should tell them that Gopi Vhau stopped crying when Jia left the show.
Seriously, why does Madhu cry at the drop of a hat?
Watched the Colors Golden Petals- who created that amazing chemistry on the stage between RK and Madhu?
(Even Shiv- Anandi was blessed with the same recipe yesterday.)
Can they get the same person on the show? If not, LM is sitting jobless any way, how about giving him a try?

i dont understand why rashid's family is not outright denying the rishta with such a greedy lady. she is gonna be nikhat's MIL, right? what domestic violence is that girl gonna land into!

Zoya manages to irk Asad enough to get him going at her throat. Me thinks the girl is an attention seeker- she is not even bothered about her earrings when she got the chance- nope, she wants to flirt with him in her Zoya way. QH forum is divided on the propriety of Asad manhandling (???I wouldn't dream of calling it that. It was one HOT scene) Zoya.
This is my favorite write up on the scene.

Read JP rules reply to Victoria and jojo.
Victoria's original post is also nicely written.

Rashid mentioned it already to Raziya that he does not want to marry his daughter into a greedy woman's family, but she wants Nukhat to get married to clear way for Humeira. So Raziya makes sure she gets the car and the house that is asked for. (I don't know if Rashid even knows about the house.) Plus Nukhat already has a history of toota hua rishtas plus the boy is genuinely nice and seems to have a spine.

Hitler Didi: For the life of me, I cannot get what people find in Rati Pandey. She is always there in the top ten stars. And this show really gets on my nerves. The hero and the little girl are worth watching. You will be shocked at the selfishness of her family. Rati is a good actress, though. And she deserves to be applauded for the thorough professional she is which shows in her dedication to the character- she puts her soul and mind into this really silly show.

The story as I understand it: Hitler Didi went missing and then police didi turned up. I think the kid is hitler's. There are too many twists and turns, yaar. Police didi is supposed to be nice, I thought. I am not even sure if she is married to the guy. They were engaged when hitler turned up. I remember her nmom wanted to hide her since the family needs police's money. If you want more bheja fry, there was this other woman- a doctor I think whom Hitler forced her hubby to marry because she was suffering from a deadly disease?

PV: Hi5! Yash looked damn good and so did aarti. For once she was dressed in a good saree. Those expressions during the song were haayee. 'Why did you betray me?'

I am so glad they are past that hiccoughing stage which lasted for a long time. Now they have started looking like a normal couple.

BV: Have not watched since the grih pravesh. Watch out for the tension between the SILs, thats where it seemed to be going.

  26. QH - Gul has a major bollywood fixation - her story has a very strong Manmohan Desai flavoured bhai bhai story line with loads of song/dance sequences followed by a dhishum dhishum fights!! No no Su, i am not saying anything against QH, am enjoying the MD film in episodes :D:D :D

But can someone please explain the whole secrecy bit - so this Nazma chick is going to hide her brother sister (ie. her lineage!) from her own husband?? or do they feel something like this if revealed later will be acceptable??? wont her husband feel cheated for not being told something so so important (though it neither her fault nor her doing!)????

And Zoya - though i am enjoying her ever imaginative mind - i really cant stand the litter bug - and till she learns to behave with her hosts - i am on AAK's side!! (Pizza on the sofa!! - i would have freaked out if a guest did that in my house!!)

Su - though i agree that the 'hand on throat' was supposed to be hot and not threatening (for the viewers) - it gets me to write something - recently i went on IF (after a long while) and tried reading up some FF/SS and apart from the atrocious English - i did realise something - all the writers are women and young ones and they are all so OK with the male leads being rude, the ‘bad boy’ who manhandles his girl – of course he is overbearing but always good at heart and will never actually harm the woman but is ok bossing over her! It got me to wonder – are we in a very indirect and un intentional way, adding to this horrifying culture of crime in the name of passion – yes of course in our stories we see the deep love behind the crude exterior but what if the some actually see this as a sign to say, ‘its ok to be rude, women enjoy this show of power’ (very crudely put – i am sorry – am no writer :()

MB – OMG – such bad actors – all of MB’s family are bad actors! And the scene where the father goes ballistic – loved RK’s expression – he was all “i am the actor here and these guys can’t let go of the drama" – love the guy and his dialogues – well written

    1. Mona,
I hope you are referring to the stupid FFs when you talk about the male leads being rude. Thoseare written by silly teenagers who have no clue about life (and very bad English)- it is aLl their fantasy from reading M&B.

You do have a point, I wil not argue about this.
Consider this too. Why is it that these M&B tales- IPK, MB, QH- all end up with silly behaviour from the women? Obviously because ours is still a male dominated culture and we cannot stand that amount of silliness from men. I am not MB bashing here, but this is the one thing I hate about MB. It is utterly male dominated. RK has to spell out things for every damn female- his mother, his wife, his mother- in- law (and even his FIL though he is not female), his SIL(s)- why is it that THEY ALL need RK to tell them how to lead their lives?

And why is it OK with the audience that the women have no brains? Is it because we are simply happy to see a male with brains and brawn- so long as that is served to us, we don't give a damn about the other characters- I feel it is an insult to womanhood.

This is going to look like comparing, but I cannot help it. Contrast with IPK where ASR tried to dictate terms to his family- and in the end had to bow down to Khushi's way of thinking...just enough to look like a love sick fool, but retaining his class as a businessman on other fronts. Even this normal reaction by a man in love was perceived as character assassination by a great majority. Why? Why is it so hard to accept that a man can change in love just like a woman can adjust to her in- laws and love her husband's family as her own?
And the other female relatives had their own identity too- Anjali in the end made that decision by herself- no one told her how to bounce back.

Any way, none of the shows promote violence, I feel.
IPK- had ASR hurting Khushi everytime he grabbed her, but he ended up saying sorry for that. RK has never lost his cool to induce physical violence on Madhu.

And in QH, it was a joke on Asad's part and unexpectedly hot like you yourself said.

On promoting the rude culture- don't worry. Our girls give as good as they get. And sometimes they do go overboard...

      Happy New Year!

      This one is for you.

loved the link :D:D:D - do so so so agree!!

in defense of MB - actually all in the series do not follow RK - yes MB is not as clearly etched out as RK but she always stood her ground - post marriage also - the only time he seems to be leading is in the parents wedding thing - which is pretty natural - after all if you are in a relationship for so long, you cant see the wider picture - for MB it was her parents who were getting upset at her suggestion while for RK he was an outsider who could see the love between them

      Delete
    3. Mona- a resounding yes to your question on contributing to the culture! I have said this before - but as long as girls are fed and love the crap of a sadistic hero defaming , hurting the girl (ASR, RK) turn loverboy and the girls lap it up as oh so sweet- there is no hope for the society ...

Our justifications "men will be men" - if the woman tolerates and sacrifices and maintains the positive front the man will change - so conversely if he does not, it is the girl's fault ...she was not doormat enough..sorry about the rant but time girls woke up and smelt the coffee

    4. sri, i do not agree.. if there are ten weepy saas bahu serials and twenty hitler didi type serials, do you think girls going around in the real world would be more hitler didi types?

to be frank, TV serials are for entertainment.. and women like to be entertained by the emotional stuff more than the righteousness stuff (or that's what is the popular opinion)..

we (or at least me) do not feed my kids with the popular 'girls are weak' storyline. I was raised by parents who thought so, and i believed that too.. until i personally learned otherwise. IMHO, what we teach our kids (both boy and girl!) will have far more impact on their thought process than what they see on TV. they learn to make decisions based on what they know.. and what they know is completely affected by how we raise them.

a girl is being poked on a bus: what reaction could there be? one kept quiet and suffered silently, tried to move away.. one used a safety pin and poked back.. one raised her voice and got the other passengers involved.. what makes the girls react differently? the serials they see? or the culture in their home?

what made khushi throw hot tea at 'the' ASR when she thought he was holding her dupatta?

      Delete
    5. i completely agree with you both - it is the family that teaches you morals
AND values and entertainment is meant to be only that - light and entertaining - BUT it also does reflect (though in a very theatrical way) but it does reflect the situation of how women are perceived - a hitler didi is overly dominating (assuming based on the name) a SNS bahu is Saccharin sweet but both reflect how women are perceived (or how they should be)

so to me - i agree that the family (and school) are the two most important institutions that teach values - so i am all for mothers telling their daughter what not to wear (metaphorically speaking) and also tell their sons what NOT to DO!! (and vice versa!)

      Delete
    6. mona, good point.
infact, i was talking about what not to wear with a teenager who routinely wears abaya.. and her POV as an NRI going back to the strictly muslim part of india where she is from, the way the people there 'act' a certain way because that is expected of them.. was a downer, to say the least. chanced upon this article.. worth a dekko http://www.hindustantimes.com/News-Feed/Samar/Dark-silent-night/Article1-984155.aspx

    7. Jaya -that's exactly what i was referring to - he mothers and fathers need to be clear on these issues as parents and guardians of their kids - both boy and girl - both citizens of a society - you need to teach your son NOT to force himself on a woman, period - no two ways about it! so to me this is a societal issue - where the seeds are laid within a family (for both girl and boy)

Since J's articles took me to the Delhi rape case..

If you are faint hearted, do skip the gruesome first part and go directly to the last part of my post.(Since this is something, I myself hate dwelling on.)

      http://www.ndtv.com/article/south/in-kerala-another-shocking-case-of-father-raping-daughters-298332

Sexual crimes are quite common in our part of the country. It is not even shocking any more. EVERY DAY there is a story of a girl raped by her brother or father...in fact today there was one about a girl who was in search of 'amma thottil' (mother's cradle) to drop off her new born- her brother and his friend raped her.

And a year back, we had a similar case of a girl succumbing to death after rape- happened in a train.

      http://www.thehindu.com/news/states/kerala/at-a-glance-soumya-rape-and-murder-case/article2618029.ece

And last year, finally our ailing film industry woke up to the women's issues and came out with two gems handling the sensitive issue...Masters and 22 Female Kottayam. It was high time too.

    1. J!
Ditto thoughts on KSG. I saw his pics first when IF had that post on the guy who was the first choice to play ASR and I went 'thank God!'.
When I started watching QH i thought he was a curious looking specimen- you write about his eyes - I used to mentally tag him as frog eyes. Somehow, I guess I have grown used to his looks or his acting has improved, I find him very good looking nowadays. And Zoya- as Bond- she is looking very pretty. KSG's haircut reminded me too of Shwetha- I guess she has ranted enough thta any actor who gets a haircut is going to get her into a sneezing spree.

I have not watched last week's DABH- can't comment on that- it was looking much better the last time I saw it. Caught housewife's back to back- do all these serials start out like this? They look good in the beginning and then the decay sets in. The only shows I have watched the beginning epis of are PV, ,Ek doosre, QH and now HW. Of these PV and HW looked impressive on the first day first show. HW is pretty good - really nice considering they started with the wedding- good comedy with lots of actors- hope it stays the same. Indu is looking good- he does wonderful comedy and romance. The chemistry is good, though Suhaasi looks slightly (teeny weeny bit) older? (may be I am simply comparing to Saanchi.)

BV: Aha! They got a new girl for Jagiya, which is what I really wanted. And Shiv- Anandi is less boring with the SR track. Anandi is not yet ready- Shiv is left pondering while she fakes sleep. I trust BV makers to handle this track with some maturity.(Hmm.. Can't help wondering. Will the show go on for another 5 years with Anandi's and Jagiya's offsprings falling in love? He he.. I better stop before I get chappals.

Colors is airing their hit shows on Sat too- I feel this is a bad move- might end up compromising on the quality (Except for BV)of the show and the mental and physical health of the actors. This could mean that Arjun will oose out on trps (I don't watch it any way.) or it mind end up having the reverse effect with people catching Arjun during advts. So if Colors take off the Sat slot later, Arjun might gain trps then? Colors did a similar expt sometime back when the started their shows at the quarter hour( 8:15 and so on) which must have backfired since they reverted back soon.

Looking forward to watching NB today. I remember it was expected that Arjun will be off air when NB starts- sort of like the beginning of a cold war btn SP and 4 lions. Thank God that did not happen.

Hey J, thanks...had a gud one....have not been watching anything on telly so bak bak is limited, have given up on even veera which was the only thing that i used to watch with some interest...the little girl is spunky but the drama is bit draining for my interest i am very shallow viewer in that sense saw an epi y'day after ages and couldn't care much for the "izzat" dialogues.......i get put off by this wanting to prove the chastity of women posturing..imo, they are more lethal than the covert chauvinists....who can still be swatted off. Once entertainment looks to preach, they have to be careful..i am happier taking entertainment at face value and not looking for any advice whose sensibilities definitely don't conform to mine....
that was an interesting points being exchanged above that i was reading with interest...

    2. J,
I feel there are lots of issues here. Enough for a full fledged debate. In a sense, this is the clash between Zoya nad Asad- both POVs have to be acknowledged, I feel.
I was convent- educated. Thankfully, we were not exposed to any of those ‘scary’ nuns- the only nun who ever taught us was a super cool one. (Also the reason why I find nuns as a whole very cute even when I know there is plenty of the other kind around.) Why I mentioned nuns here is to explain why I think the way I do. It was drilled in to us to dress modestly-the difference was, I did not feel any compulsion. I guess it is the way it is told. If you feel someone is forcing you as a teenager, you will want to run in the opposite direction.
Everyone has the right to dress the way they want. I am the kind of person who really looks away when I see guys with low waist jeans exposing their inner wear- I don’t get the point they are trying to make. Ditto with girls wearing tights with over tight t- shirts.

‘Also, certain alumni were not allowed to enter the school because they got pregnant while still in school’:
      I have some questions here.
How did they get pregnant while they were students?
They are definitely not role models, but why should they be banned from entering school?
If this girl happens to be a classmate of your child’s how proudly would you advertise this fact?
I will sympathise with her, have no problems with my child sharing the same bench with her...but I also have to think about what kind of a person she is since she might influence my child with her free thinking. It might be fine with her and her parents- may not be right for my family. Of course, if I have enough faith in the way I brought up my child, none of these matter.
      Every victim is not innocent.
Of course none of them deserve their fate either.(In case I am sounding like that stupid ‘guru’ who came out with some senseless insensitive comments on the rape case today)
‘We had to get a fax from our parents to stay out of the hostel over night’:
I don’t find that very wrong. If something went wrong, the hostel authorites are the only ones answerable to the parents. And many things can go wrong; they have.
‘ In fact, when I went to collect my degree certificate I was denied admission to the college because I was in jeans. I sat down on the road and refused to move until I get my degree. They finally let me in.’: Hats off to this girl! (I can never understand this anti- jeans fixation that college authorities seem to uniformly agree on.)
I can only sympathise with this girl because the only restriction that was placed on us girls in our residential college was the 12 0’ clock rule. We were free to do whatever we liked till then. The guys had no restrictions. They loved to rub it in. But none of us envied them for that, so there was no cause for rebellion. I guess I am lucky. Probably that is why I can’t relate much to it.

I read your reply about free mingling possibly curing these perverts. I don’t think that is the answer. It is the mindset of the parents and how THEY bring up their kids with good values. And looks like that is not going to happen for some time in our society. Is there no eve teasing and rape in the western society where men and women mingle freely?

Right now, I have only one solution for this east- west clash. I don’t mind buying my niece some cute stuff, but I make sure I tell her to dress appropriately if she is travelling by public transport. And thankfully for her- where jeans and shirt would have invited some dirty comments when I was a teenager (which I got too, as a teenager) , it does not look like an anomaly anymore (most of the times) in our place. Times are changing.

But the day a girl can walk fearlessly at 12 0’ clock in the night even with a male companion...I doubt it will ever come. That is Utopia. Sounds like heaven.

Also, I was wondering...do the Arab countries have lower crime rates? If so, is it because of their stringent laws?

      J,
Your blog is/ was amazing. Wish you hadn’t wound it up. Mailed you.*hugs*

      Delete
    3. Su - i so agree with you - i too feel its not so easy to come up with 'A' solution - if there was one - there would be no crimes in at least some part of the world.

I too wore the hijab for most of my life - pure choice (no one in my immediate family does so - no one discouraged me nor did anyone force it down my throat) - hence choice was mine and believe you me i was/am as confident of myself as the most confident person around - so am with you - your family is all important (and your schooling comes next) in grooming you

Having said that - even if a woman was naked, it still does not mean she is open to being ridiculed or raped - so the other side of the coin is to teach both girls and boys of the family what respect is all about

(a little off topic- but just to complete my point - this really sweet colleague of mine and I were having a debate on how prejudices are born and raised in school environments as well - and he was very genuinely defending a right wing school saying - "but i went to a RSS school and they were not prejudiced, they were very tolerant of muslims" - He did not even realize he was speaking of 'tolerance', not respect - i had to tell him - you are no one to tolerate me and i am no one to tolerate you - we have to respect each other - not tolerate each other!

    4. Haaye, Mona.

I find girls wearing hijab very cute- so long as there is no one pressurising them to wear it. It is each one's choice, right?

On tolerance...EXACTLY! It is not just between religions...it is everything we do. When will we stop being judgemental and swear by OUR ideology? When will we learn to accept someone for who they are wholeheartedly?

      Tolerance...acceptance..respect..

If each one knew HIS GOD well, we would all understand each other perfectly.

      Heh heh...Dia,
Welcome back! What have we done to your baby!

      Delete
    5. I haven't caught up with this discussion completely - just the last couple of points ... so just adding - in a way, I feel the Western compulsion of wearing skimpy clothes, strapless dresses etc is as much of societal pressure as wearing a hijab might be in the Muslim world. And both are equally uncalled for ... in the sense that if a woman wears it out of choice, well and good, but if she is forced by what people around her say, whether it be for the hijab or for wearing a skimpy outfit, it's wrong. Sometimes I feel the Western code of wear is even more due to societal pressure than wearing traditional dress is - living outside India for so many years, I feel out of place wearing Indian dress in public, even though I'm most comfortable in it.

On tolerance ... agree!!! And here, exposure is another key factor. If you grow up with, or are exposed to different cultures, the tolerance and respect comes automatically. Provided you open your mind to it.

  45. QH:
'Making people jump to conclusions': Gul's favorite game. LOL.

Lot of wonderful drama happening over two days- in fact the drama was so good,Zoya looked out of place and context in yesterday's episode.

Ayan grows by leaps and bounds as an actor...I wonder how long it will last. Surbhi was disappointing - looked like Gul did not bother with the retakes as she was drained with the drama.

Hmmm... So the brothers were together- Asad literally taught Ayan to walk holding his 'ungli'...Rashid was the spineless bastard who imposed his bastard(?) son on a second time pregnant Dilshad...only to leave her and the kids, dragging Ayan away with him. Mammujaan must have played some chaal?

Asad's dialogue on the play 'exposure' that Shireen owed her marital status to his Ammi's sacrifice- makes more sense now.

Nikhat was good too. She tries to convince Ayan that her short lived romance cannot be even compared with the strong bond between the bros makes a lot of sense. It is wonderful that the cast delivers as and when the scenes make sense.

Even the youngest sis caught my attention- rather her sleeve caught my attention- I think she is KKG's personal favorite. She gets all the hand- me downs.

The jump to conclusion part: Zoya can stay back only for one more year- her visa expires after that (blooper?) - I had this intense brain wave that lasted for two min that Zoya will turn to the only other person known to her in Bhopal for a roof over her head- Rashid- and temporary marriage with Ayan works out for legal permission to stay on. Only, she is already a ctizen, so it does not make much sense. Plus, she blurts out the jaasoos word to Asad, so he really has no reason to throw her out any more. Whew!

    1. I caught the last ten minutes of QH ... I get the episodes a day late ... and must say, I liked the Asad-Ayaan fb's ... even without knowing what had gone before. Thanks for the update, Su. Reminded me why I liked KSG as an actor. Though I have to say watching KSG, I did feel Barun did a better job as ASR than KSG would have done.

And again felt Zoya is miscast - the girl just CANNOT carry the pathos.

      Delete
    2. Dia,
Surbhi is very good in comedy.

Pathos: Zoya has not had that many serious moments for me to comment on that. This week she has not been serious at all- even when she is ordered to leave- there is no pathos there... I guess it won't matter much because I don't expect there is much drama written in to her character.

From what I have seen of QH so far- it is more about Asad than Zoya. All her interactions are with HIS relatives.

When I compare with Geet (from what little I have seen) and IPK (sigh...), this heroine seems to be just a little more than an extension of the hero. She is independent in her thinking..but Zoya cannot exist independent of Asad. He has to be there for her character to make sense.
Asad is expected to hold the whole cast together- that is how the story is written. And I guess that is why they need an actor like KSG for this role.

Barun as ASR- What a character! What an actor! What an idiot! (he he he...could not help it even though I have forgiven him.). Can't help wondering what the story of IPK would have been if it was KSG who did not have to take frequent breaks playing ASR. I guess we would have got the story that was promised.

      Delete
    3. Su,
I haven't seen Surbhi too much - but from what I saw, I don't think she is that great in comedy. I saw one scene where she was tiptoeing behind Asad, trying to eavesdrop on his conversation - when she fixes up his rishta with that Russian girl ... she was hamming. I agree with you that the story is going to be Asad based - much like IPK was Arnav-based. Although there the Guptas had some role in the first half of the show, and even later during the Gupta house episodes before and after the hate marriage ... but here, from what I've seen, Zoya's sister and BiL have disappeared completely after the first few episodes. But they were not as good actors as the Guptas either.
Asad's mom and sis doting on Zoya reminds me of Nani and Anjali doting on Khushi ... too many similarities really!

On the whole though, the acting in IPK was far better, each and every character - from the leads to all the side characters. There seems to have been far less attention to casting for QH than there was for IPK - again makes me feel Gul never intended QH to replace IPK or anything of the sort - this was always intended to have less reach than IPK did. This was just her pet project, while IPK would have continued to be 4lions' main show and their cash cow.

Which brings me to the same thought as you - how would IPK have played out had those frequent breaks of Barun never happened ... right from the first kidnapping. I wonder if we would have gotten some of the planned story with Sanaya-Viraaf instead if IPK had continued. Or did Gautam Hegde take the ideas with him to Madhubala ... as RK there seems to be far more what I imagined ASR would be.
      *sigh* we will never know.

  48. Marathon tv watching session today, as hubby was busy with photographs, and kids were having an evening out with friends :)

Veera - the pace seems to have picked up with the new entry. I saw my first couple of episodes of the little girl Veera - had seen just one episode with her before I went on holiday. I think the boy Daljeet (the wicked one) put his finger on it - Ranvi is going to be the calm, sensible caring older brother, and Veera is quite simply, a patakhi! She won't stand for any nonsense, especially with her darling brother, or even her mother. Like the way Ranvi is always lecturing her, telling her right from wrong, liked his lesson to her not to take too much money from Nihal, and loved the fact that both brother and sister are determined now to study properly in school and have accepted that they have to be separated in school and stay in their respective for their own good. Am liking the acting of the kids and the characterization of the siblings relationship ... will be interesting when they grow up. Which might not be for a while yet, if the new entry is any indication. Have seen Kapil Nirmal in a show earlier, though I never really followed it - he is a watchable actor.

BV - not bad, quite interesting, with the different threads of Jagya's new story starting off, in tandem with Anandi's new life with her in-laws. I found Anandi quite bland in her acting ... has she always been like this?

MB - found it pretty boring today, don't know why. It just didn't keep my interest ... and MB-RK chemistry is very weak. Also, I found the whole RK getting distracted by his biwi being around for his shot, when he himself had called her, quite strange. And their subsequent awkwardness was very plastic and unconvincing. The Paddy-Mallik wedding preps were also quite boring.

QH - yesterday's episode - not bad. There was no SSW, or I missed him if he was there ;) Liked the Asad-Dilshad talk, though I don't approve of Asad giving in to dowry demands at all. Don't think that was the right thing to do. But liked KSG's acting when he wants to look after all his siblings ... I haven't caught up with the fb's, but it seems they were all brought up together for a while, till someone, the evil Maamu? insisted Rashid and Shirin separate from Dilshad and her kids? The evil Raziya is another decent actor, but Shirin is NOT - see her expressions when she doesn't have any dialogues, and you will see what I mean. Neither is Vidya Sinha - she was pretty blank and expressionless even in her films, she continues to be the same now.

PKDH - as before, the older actors and the Harish-Preeti-Avantika problems are far more interesting than Adi-Pankh. And now the evil Latika is back in action, now teamed with equally wicked (and stupid) Rubel, and his scheming mom. Just how many villains are there in this story?!
I thought the guy playing Adi was a decent actor - he is not. Pankhuri on the other hand, is improving slightly. But zilch chemistry. The show is watchable though in parts - still not tempted to watch it regularly.

    Vishesh tippani samapt hui. :P

  49. Was watching MB and realized something - this is what a production house should be doing - making sure that the story does not suffer
Agreed that the story is no where close to IPK nor the stars but the story has been focusing on all characters (albeit boring characters) and hence the lead who was apparently on a leave for his wedding was not killed/died/in a coma/missing/kidnapped. In fact a viewer will not even know that he was onleave. - so jealous!!

if only Gul and her team had done this, kept her story sacrosanct and worked out timetables better. And from her husband's and her interview, it was apparent that they always did this last minute shooting - bad planners! i guess these guys come up with a story upto a point and then play it by the ear - depending on how the audience response is - so IPK was designed well - they told the story well thinking they will come up with a BFTP post a hate wedding - the rest they could not manage because of poor planning :(

    1. mona, what interview are you talking about? can you post a link?

    2. Mona, Dia,
Actually this is something I wanted to write in reply to Dia's point above. Could not send it then. Mona's post reminded me of some of the points , so I am writing it here.

LM mentioned in his iv that he realised the story was not what was narrated to him ,around November. Barun wanted to leave in feb when the hate marriage started.(And when he says he wanted to leave, I guess he would have indicated that he will stick on till the contract was valid.) So Barun is probably not the only reason the story changed. I wonder if it was SP's idea to make it totally Arhi- centric.

For me, IPK was Khushi's and Arnav's story. I think the original story must have intended more role for Garima also as the other woman. I don't mean in fbs- but the angst that Rekha kept talking about- what we were cheated out of with the phool aur kaante fb. I will totally agree that the story was mostly told from the hero's pov.

4 Lions are bad planners, Mona. There is no question about it. I think it is because they are the most creative bunch around. They don't deal with just one genre. Thye do comedy and drama together. It is really difficult to make someone laugh. And it must be all the more difficult to make someone laugh, cry and fall in love at the same time (which is what they did with IPK.)

BV is the best directed and most well- planned show. But their attempt at comedy is pathetic. All I am trying to say is, it is difficult to plan ahead when you have so many ideas and you are trying to bring out the best. It works at times, some times it fails. And coming up with something new all the time is tiring. We cannot creative work to our professions. Most of us work with guidelines and routines..it is just a matter of following the rules with a bit of extra time here and there for meeting the deadlines. Deadlines kill creativity. They need to work at their own pace. A writer takes years sometimes to complete a book even if he started out with a clear plot. Same with artists taking time with their art (music, painting...). Remember, even an AR Rahman fails to deliver all the time and he came under heavy criticism post Jai Ho.

BV and PKD will never let you down as viewers. But they don't thrill you. It is the same monotonous pace throughout.

You are right. MB cannot even be compared to IPK. It is easy to accommodate an actor leaving for one week. When he takes 6 weeks and some times 'indefinite' leave, kidnap and murder are probably the only options.

And what was the point in going on with BFTP when the actor himself was clear he was leaving and the character had to be killed off? If they had gone on with BFTP, given all the drama to strengthen the love story and kiled off Arnav...where would the viewers be? IPK stopped telling Arnav's story when Barun wanted to leave.

Dia, (reply to discussion we had above)

QH: is not about Asad and Zoya; it is about Asad and Zoya and Asad and Ayan. If IPK was about Arnav and Khushi and Arnav and Anjali- we could have compared the shows . The Arnav- Anjali part had its limitations once they had Khushi rescuing Arnav, putting her life in danger. They could not explore the sibling bond anymore after that without making ASR look undeserving or Anjali look selfish and bitchy. I think they tried to maintain a balance there without killing the characters.

Nani and Anjali doting on Khushi- she deserved to be doted on. Phuphi is sympathetic towards Zoya- she is 'bechaaari' Zoya, the orphan. And Phuphi actually does not approve of everything she does. Najma looks up to her as her heroine - a role model for a silly teenager. It is actually not the same as IPK.
Surbhi-: don't compare her with any one. There is something to her. The problem is, Zoya herself is not an endearing character- that puts most people off the actress too.

    3. Su,
We are having major soul sister moments these days :)

About BV and PKDH ... A big ditto, in fact I just wrote something very similar on this week's TV this week post. I haven't even mentioned PKDH for the same reason, because neither of the shows thrills me. They are telling a story, which is what I always thought is the prerequisite for a show ... but it seems it is just the base, or the foundation ... then comes the screenplay, dialogues, bg music etc ... and finally the actors to translate that vision onto the screen. I guess the majority of viewers watch a show like background music ... the TV is on while a dozen other things happen around the house ... if you miss a scene, or half an episode, it doesn't matter much.

That's where IPK was different. It was much faster paced, for one thing ... and the acting and chemistry of the cast, not just Barun and Sanaya, but each and every member of the cast, definitely lifted it to far greater heights. Comparing to QH, there too Razia has her standard dialogue main bolungi to bologe ... and I think Shirin has her luck or kismat dialogue ... but I can bet Razia's bologe toh will reach nowehere near the popularity that Mami's Hello Hi Bye Bye or Buaji's Haye re nand Kishore reached ... because the way those actros delivered their lines was just many notches above. Don't even get me started on Allah Miyan vs Hey Devi Maiyya. This was just an example - the point I was making is that everything came together in IPK, there was some brilliant writing and some even more brilliant execution of that writing. I don't BV and PKDH have any characters who stand out because of either dialogues or characterization ... they are all very run of the mill ... and have no layers, or very few. That's why Avantika is the interesting character in PKDH rather than the heroine Pankhudi, because she has some hidden layers. Pankhudi is bland. Adi was supposed to be conflicted because his parents were divorced ... he is just your regular sweet guy ... while Arnav was a bundle of emotional conflict and internal contradictions. So IPK demanded your interest and your attention ... BV and PKDH are great background music.

And I completely echo you on your points about winding up the BFTP ... when the main actor was going to leave, what was the point of going on with his Past track? It had to be wound up in a hurry, they had not much choice. The only other alternative was to replace Arnav Singh Raizada and then carry it on. Think of the number of flashbacks they would have had to re-shoot!

Again agree totally to the point about an actor taking leave for 1-2 weeks, vs 11/25/40/48 days - indefinite ... and now an "indefinite" break/extended break. The only way to handle that is an accident and either missing body or coma. Coma if the actor has full plans to return, as Naitik did ... or missing body, if actor's plans are uncertain ... which is what they planned with Arnav. Accident, I mean ... I am guessing the missing body bit. If they showed his body, it would be because they KNEW that he was not planning to return. So accusing Gul of not planning Arnav's absence properly is unfair ... she had no options available other than what she planned, if Barun had put in his papers. She did the only thing she could.

    4. After LM's interview, I guess SP interference started around the 'farak padta hai' track ... it changed very abruptly to the Payash wedding which was a much lighter track. So am guessing LM left because he was miffed about that.

After SPA, and IPK sweeping so many awards, did SP's interference increase to make the show more Arhi-centric? Possible ... but this part I am not sure about, because the show was getting good TRP's and it was well balanced among all the characters. But the preponement of the Payash wedding definitely threw the planned story out of gear, and the PH might have made the story Arhi-centric while they tried to work with the new situation. SaRun could carry the show even with a fairly crappy track (Swami and 101 ways to annoy Arnav ... and how can I forget ... suicide :((( ) while they tried to sort things out.

After Payash wedding, Payash really never had any meat in their story at all ... they tried that regular saas bahu stuff with Mami, which didn't work. So Payash started fading into the background, and Arhi perforce took over center stage with more screen space. Then before the redemption track could start, Barun threw in his movie news. So redemption track had to be postponed because he had to disappear for a while. I think Khushi's realisation was not intended to happen then, it would have been Arnav finding out the truth and then his regret and trying to make it up to Khushi ... Since it was star crossed lovers, I am betting there would have been another separation, this time Khushi walking out, and Arnav actually working to bring her back. That would have led to Khushi's realisation.

After which they might have tackled either the BFTP or the Shyam revelation, but one at a time ... and then followed into a new beginning for Anjali. Which might be why Daljeet was happy to stay on after Barun left, because she would get a good track as well. Payash were done ... happily married meant The End for them. So they could leave.

Jeez, I can think of a whole new and different story of what IPKKND could have been! Would love to know what the original story they had planned actually was, till all the interference started. Though one thing is there, I think it was really very dark ... the farak padta hai itself showed a really hateful Arnav. Am not sure SP did entirely the wrong thing by interfering, but they should have just asked PH to tone it down, not change the tracks completely. That was probably the first thing that threw the PH off gear.

Ah well ... again, we will never know!

    PERFECT

Would a reasonable person would go into a huff because someone before them in the queue got the last choc-chip cookie?

Would a reasonable person sit and stare through the window, glare through the window, don't care through the window, clearly sulking?

    No.

The guilt-tripping works, though. I relent.

"Excuse me, guess I'm not as hungry as I'd thought. Would you like to share this?"

"That's very generous, but I couldn't. Oh, wait, I could. Thanks."

    She smiles. She's pretty.

"You know, half is the perfect amount," she concedes.

    Really? Hmm.

"You're buying tomorrow then," I suggest.

    Game on.
