TV This Week - 17th - 23rd Dec 2012

Veera ... ambling along, the pace slowed down a little. Ratan has accepted Veera only for Ranvi's sake. Evil chachi Bansuri continues to be evil ... and oh, there are skeletons in those closets too.
I liked Kartar's wife ... very pretty, and sweet character.

Madhubala

Qabool Hai

Balika Vadhu ... saw the bidaai scene on Friday and nearly went to sleep! Sooo repetitive!

    1. Thank you!!! I'm still very unsure about editing etc., exploring slowly one step at a time. My hubby is the main force behind it, of course, and the main architect :) He's been after me to get feedback from all of you.

    3. Really nice page Dia.I wanted to go in and write my comments there but I am busy in AD with my project due at Jan end and my manager doing a 4Lions on us. So kind of stuck in AD and future seems bleak(as in my interacting a whole lot in the new blog). I would sure drop in R&R whenever time permits and since I am not even bothering what is going on in TV world, I don't know how far I can contribute to the discussions. But I would definitely love to read all of the discussions going on here in R&R.

One thing I feel bad was that I thought of catching up with some good novels over the Christmas break but now that seems to be not the case as I am working over the Christmas holidays too. Unfair I know.

So chalo then, Have a nice break for Christmas and enjoy your new year.

    4. I've re-loaded the Musings page, made it a blog on blogspot and added it there. The one I tried before, Wordpress didn't work so well ... maybe I'm just more used to blogspot, and it works perfectly well on the web page.

So both R&R and the new blog, Musings, are alive and accessible from the webpage as well as directly. I am off on holiday next week too, so will be more active once I return, and will work on them more.

Sarada, tough luck on having to work over the holidays ... that really sucks!

BTW dia, now that the new website is up, is R&R ending?
it is true that tv is pretty boring.. i can see that our family is rarely posting. ladies, what are you watching these days?

    1. Nope, R&R is very much here, I just linked it to that page, so you can access it from both links. I'm getting more ambitious ... will start adding more blogs, on my professional field as well as other areas of interest, but that will be after the holidays. My kids arrive next week and then we're off on a break over Christmas and New Year.

R&R has slowed down a lot ... there is nothing worth too much discussion these days, I guess. Or nothing inspiring that same addiction. I'm still watching Veera and PKDH off and on, but don't feel the need to discuss so much.

Su and Opti are discussing both QH and MB ... with regular inputs from BG :) Maybe I will start watching one of them more regularly after the holidays.

Or maybe we will have news of Sanaya's return by then, and something to look forward to :)

    2. Coincidentally I was watching another beautiful Arhi scene today, very close in timing to the one you posted.

Hayyeee, what a couple they were!

    3. i watched the scene on silent.. awee how cute can bitwa be! -and he was perfectly chotte.. not that crazy simpering arnav that happened later .. and wow, the glare that shyam gave him for looking at 'his' girl.. snakewa knew that there was lafda between arshi.. #$%@@ villain..

seeing that now, i think that there was a honesty to shyam's character there.. he had fallen for khushi..(to borrow a phrase i read recently, "every man who knew khushi fell in love with her." and he was ready to hide anjali and marry her, but later when he knew khushi would not ignore anjali, he was willing to kill his wife to gain khushi's love.. and it was not about money, it was about love.

why, why did they have to extend his role to include money and the crazy chakkar of the will, kidnapping et al! could not someone else kidnap arnav for money?

8pm withdrawal is terrible yaar, when i come in from outside i automatically turn the tv on .. and then realize there is nothing on that channel, at that time..anymore. these days, i am watching a lot more tv than before.. movies, english shows.. anything to heal that emptiness.. but have discovered that books are a better bet.. at least i get to imagine a scene, I dont have to look at mediocre acting !

From the sets of MAMR. I had not watched this back then.
I think I need to stop researching on MAMR, though I can't help it. Most likely my expectations are going to completely ruin the movie for me. Hell, I don't even know how i am going to get hold of a cd of this movie!

  6. Dia - This is Sahana. Really like your web site. Autumn is my favorite season so love that you picked that for your backdrop. Good luck on your vision , my expectations with anything related to 'DIa' are very high and I'm sure you will do a fabulous job with it. I am guessing that the pictures tab is private and you are not planning to open it up to us ?

As a habit, I keep coming to R&R at least once a day. TV is boring , nothing appealing to watch. I do love Shwetha's, Opti's and Su's analysis of MB.
I am thinking of re-watching Revenge season 2 again, just to keep myself occupied. On IPK, where can one find the entire archive of episodes ? Is there a particular website that I can go to ?

Hi to all the R&R gals!! You all rock!!

    1. Sahana,

Thank you for those very kind words *blush* The web page is my husband's new project ... he's a great amateur photographer and opened his own page for his picture. He then proceeded to open one for me for my blogging :) but he's in charge of adding the photographs here. I do very basic stuff, I'm more the writer.

The photos are password protected as of now, as they are all personal ... I am planning to set up an email for my friends so that you can write in and take the password if you want to see the pics :)

I am watching Revenge and Downton Abbey. I think Season 3 of Downton Abbey will start in Jan, that is a good show.

All the 'sources' I have been in touch with indicate that Sanaya will be back soon on SP. Sanaya's own words in the LA Meet and Greet also indicated the same thing. So at the moment, it's a break for me ... enjoy the holidays and get back in Jan '13. I just enjoy the written updates of QH and MB here, and watch those shows once in a while. Am watching Veera pretty regularly, the pace has slowed down but it's still watchable and the characterization and acting is very good.

    2. DIa - Thank you so much for your note. I just hope that your sources are correct and we get San back on screen with a super cool actor and yes, I am rooting for Viraf as well :-) There are times when I'm enjoying the break from tv, but there are times I feel this emptiness and really miss our ARhi. I don't think we'll ever get a couple as cute as Arhi, so it is better to keep our expectation low.
I am a big fan of Downton Abbey , so waiting for the new season to start.

      Happy Holidays !!

  7. episode reviews:
veera.. i love how natural they all are, and the flawless editing is a real pleasure to watch.
madhubala.. why did madhu not complete her sentence? of course, if she completed the sentence, there would be no MU :)
today, trishna blasted RK.. what did he understand? i guess i will have to wait till tomorrow to find out. now that bittooji is not simpering, i like him better. RK, drunk on sets.. whatever, he looked far hotter than last week. shwethu, did he get a haircut? madhu's mom heard that RK loves madhu.. not the rest of the story.. huh. another MU.

QH.. if i were asad, i'd have happily put zoya in a hotel and paid the bill.. allah mia, what an aafat!

good that asad knows about rashid-dilshad meeting. does anybody know where zoya's drama ticket went? ayan came in the middle of the night to visit asad.. and did not bat an eyelash when zoya fell on asad and had a rabba ve (ugh what was that again? oh right, mitwa ve.. or something, anyway, not at all hummable, or remember-able.)
sorry yaar, direction is terrible. they had a 'moment' and they both act like nothing happened .. there should be slight awkwardness.. but nah.. total amnesia. i love asad-zoya comic timing. they have laughter in their eyes even when doing serious dialogues. that makes even serious scenes funny to me.

i have to say i love zoya's comments, her shayari, the nicknames she calls him.. dialogue writer, take a bow.

now who is this gunda chatting with humeira in the middle of the night?I like humeira, though she looks about two feet tall when she stands next to ayaan. and what is that characterless haseena bi doing now? asking for another family's rishta for her son, while he is engaged to nikhat? what drama yaar.. in a comedy serial!!

pkdh.. nah.. cannot watch constipated adi/aunty/grandpa anymore. why dont the whole family have some hajmola!

dabh... why does suraj not tell his family? before, to get permission would have been difficult.. but why not now, when the deed is done? (eh, not that deed, that will never happen) i'm talking about the college.

what else is there? caught a glimpse of gopi vahu.. now pregnant and leading camels? and ahem actually looks better with a stubble.. (but see that.. even kidnapped, he is in full suit boot.. not like our arnav bitwa.. )

jhalak dikhla jaa.. the promos were not impressive, now the new promo with actual dance and drama snippets.. they called that YRKK guy too sweet.. truly, he was saccharine sweet in that dance. did anybody see?

    1. J,
NOt JDJ- it is Nach Baliye- I was educated here in R&R few months back- since then I know the difference. This one is only for SP favorites, I think. I saw the guy - nothing striking since i was not concentrating. BTW, all contestants are sweet and have perfect partners - that is why they are on NB.

Zoya's drama ticket- bade bade deson mein chhotti chhotti baatein hoti hai- aap ko hamare postal system aur courier system pe itna confidence hai?
Plus we are talking about Zoya- most likely, she gave the wrong adddress.

On the mitwa- I really thought it was perfect. There was no romance as expected. Asad was taken by surprise and he really did not know how to respond to their situation first. And he had Ayan in the back of his mind. They showed that well. There was awkwardness in the way he held her, Zoya was a little lost in their physical proximity as well as probably guilty because she barged in to his room.

And when they both got up, Asad was clearly awkward. There was no 'force' in his telling her off. He sounded embarassed. Zoya had recovered by then- she is a smart girl, not a coy one.

Humeiraa- the goonda is her college mate- he has given her the impression he is Ayan. You like her too? She is the only character other than Asad I liked the first time I watched the show.
Dialogue writers: I know. They must be sisters. Where does Gul find these people from?

    2. i was thinking i wont care enough to spot bloopers anymore.. but then zoya stuffed her mouth with chips when she had nothing in her hands..

honestly, i cannot understand how zoya can be cute and smart and over the top and dumb and sensitive and brave and a smart aleck.. all in one episode... but it works.

and i am liking the little touches.. like when ayan rolled over the couch to come in, asad immediately rights the cushions..

      Delete
    3. 'i am liking the little touches.. like when ayan rolled over the couch to come in, asad immediately rights the cushions..':

Yeah, that was quite noticeable and nice- like Gul was telling us- I stil have the grip on my characterisation (Till when?,Allah hi jaane!) . Also in the same epi they took special care to show us that Zoya does not believe in folding her clothes. She feels her room looks much better with clothes strewn all around!

BBE, I also wondred where the chips kept coming from like that- she must have a really huge hand! Any way, comedy mein sab Jaayaz hai!

  8. Yesterday was a wonderful Monday. All the shows I watched had something attractive about them. (May be I am just going crazy missing IPK, or more likely, it is me trying to move on at a snail’s pace! But seriously, I enjoyed what I saw.)

    1. Khamoshiyaan. What did I tell you? Mohit – Sid-will get confused with all the characters!
Gauri’s EVIL kaaki introduced three people to him and asked him if he got the relations right and the poor boy was already sweating! LOL.
Dialogue of the week: (Year? Decade?) goes to Siddharth: Tumhe kya lagaa ? Main yahaan tumhare liye aaya hoon? Main yahan apni saasu maa ke liye- matlab MIL- Prateeksha Aayi ko lene aaya hoon!!! (heh heh…the WT look on Gauri’s face was rofl- worthy. This, when she was expecting him to drag her back to UK!)
I am liking Khammoshiyaan more and more as I watch it. Mohit is lucky to have bagged this character if they continue on at the same pace and quality. The only thing I did not like was his hairstyle- too formal looking! Or is it a funky look? I guess I needed a break from all the glaring complex heroes- read – overdose of RK doing a not so great imitation of ASR.
Sid has a shatir dimaag, because Appa Sahib does not have one. Sid assessed Gauri’s hero Appa Sahib in two minutes.(Toh, yeh hai, Gauri ka hero Appa Sahib.) I also liked how he talked things out with his dad before coming to India- he to ld him that he had started the whole drama by sending Gauri off to India, so now, if she wants to stay back for her mother’s sake and post pone the wedding and get shot in the meantime, he was going to come down to India to set things right. (My hero!)
And she needs him. Appa Sahib took him aside and and told him clearly that he wanted Sid to take Gauri back and never again come back to India.(WT look on Sid’s face)
So what is the story about?
Clearly Appa Sahib is an autocrat and a manipulator. He has manipulated Prateeksha in to believing she is bad luck for Gauri. There was a fb of Prateeksha remembering how Gauri as a kid had fallen down from a height for which she clearly holds herself responsible. That is why she feels Gauri is better of without her. And this woman was spending her life in self exile, locking herself up in a room, refusing to allow her unlucky self to be a part of her family. And here comes Gauri, sent by Sid, to bring her back to life. (Though Gauri was unaware of the existence of Prateeksha since she considered her adoptive parents her birth parents. Whew!)
I liked this scene also yesterday( Invisible threads to IPK other than Sanaya’ boyfriend and Sheesh Mahal): The evil Kaaki standing near the chessboard- takes the black queen and king out of the board- ab iss raja ko iss rani ko leke yahan se jaana hoga.
Evidently, this is all about money. I think Gauri is the heir to the vast wealth-(probably it is inherited from her father’side or her maternal ancestor wrote it in her name)- Appa Sahib wants her to be kept alive, but out of his realm. The evil kaaki seems to have an agenda of her own.

There is also this aunt character (am figuring out the relation)who told aaji sahib that her life was ruined by her son Appa Sahib when he ruined her life by making sure the mangalsutra that was tied on her was in fact a chain of bondage. (Nice dialogue. Can’t remember the exact lines). I thought she was Appa Sahib’s wife- may be not- his sister?

    1. 2. PSH- eating my words.
Just when I think all scriptwriters and their heroes have lost it- comes a ray of hope.
Nephew Thakur firmly believes his wife is cheating on him still, but he has the good sense to believe her best friend was raped by his cousin’s would be- and asks her if she does not consider it her duty as a woman to reveal his true colours to Kuhu. (Waah! They are handling the social issues here well. It is about oppression of women- a good take on women being treated as sex objects. And also about one man’s obsession for a woman- he has respected women all his life and he has loved her with all his heart- but does he deserve her? And to what extent can his love turn lethal? I believe Uncle will turn white in the end.)

      3. PKD: Pankhudi gets whacked on her head. Thank God. Hopefully it has knocked some sense in to her too!
I caught snippets of one nurse and one doctor running helter skelter (Hey, they have other patients in the hospital too: ‘understanding me’. )So what’s it going to be? Will she get a brain transplant or a face transplant? I am being unnecessarily mean here. I am actually probably the only person who likes the actress. I think she plays the part of the girl- next- door beautifully. So, Saasu maa has come to her senses at least.

      4. MB: I bet GH’s fav thing as a child was the merry- go- round. That is where he seems to be going with RK. He takes 180 in one epi and turns another 180 in the very next one. So he goes in circles. Kabhi haan kabhi naa. So, MB’s sister (I like her better than Dips KMH) throws a hint at the shatir dimag on why Madhu was reluctant to drop everything and go with him. Now the very understanding RK, the Great- asks his biwi: Will you come off with me after things are settled at your home? Arrey, what for? To prove to Dipali that his Madhu is the bestest ever!
I think I got RK at last- he is plain eccentric (with a special love for circles)! Will make an irritating husband and an interesting grandpa! I think I know where they are going with the shatir dimag- this is all about RK leaving his stardom and pushing biwi into the showbiz- to prove to Dips darling that his wife is an allrounder and best at everything she does. And the final twist will be when the ex- BF comes back to a successful Madhu (ofc, hunted down by Dips)- and Mr. eccentric will become Mr.Insecure again. (I am really not being mean. Just keeping my expectations to the minimum so that I can watch it when Khamoshiyaan gets boring.) I liked the bil- sil confrontation yesterday and also DD’s acting(which I feel like mentioning every time she does a decent job.)

    2. 5. QH: Saving the best for the last! What is this woman , Gul? I thought she had done all the permutations and combinations possible with ‘trip and fall’, and she mocks me!

Zoya rushes in to the room with her pepper spray(never to be left out!) as Asad is trying to hide his half- bro: sends her and Asad tumbling on to the very spacious sofa- mitwaa there. And that is not it. Asad is trying to distract her from Ayan and turns her over on to her back (not doing a deep study on her line of vision here)- the idea was wonderful. A good way of doing a trip and fall when there is no romance yet. And Zoya tries to squirm her shoulder out of his grip, only to realize that she herself is clutching on to his kurta. (Haaye….) Asad tightens his grip on her (subconscious passion or still trying to give Ayan time to hide?), and Zoya breaks the spell:”Allah Miyaan, whats wrong with you Mr. Khan?” Very nicely done.

What follows is good comedy. A ruffled Asad telling Zoya off- Zoya leaves reluctantly (with her pepper spray, mind you!)- and she sees a hooded figure sneaking out of Asad’s room. ROFL.Now she gets it. This is why ‘Jahanpanah 6 packs’ did not want her to install the security! How can he have his chori chupke meeting s with the very efficient alarm system she planted? And now she knows why he is akdu all the time. The poor guy is in love!(ROFL. Thank god. She didn’t see it was a guy. Would she have made a eewww…face and said ‘boyfriend’ then?)

Loved how Asad consoled Ayan on the quarrel between his abbu and ammi. Asad has a huge heart . Shireen is the woman who took his dad away from his mom- but he wishes Ayan’s parents well. He reassures Ayan that we often forget tha our parents are human beings too. The make mistakes. All couples fight once in a while, they make up too. And he sends him away with the thought tha nothing, no one, can come in between his parents.

Humeiraa- my pari-(avtualy one of my twin paris- the other being tamatar) she is getting herself into trouble. She is chatting freely on the net in the misguided belief that it is Ayan on the other side.

Haseena Bee- what new game is she playing? She wants to rethink the wedding? Or she wants to blackmail the Khans?

      Delete
    3. su, that was the most interesting episode of QH till date.. ROFL (ROFL. Thank god. She didn’t see it was a guy. Would she have made a eewww…face and said ‘boyfriend’ then?) LMAO!!!!

yes, the qubool ve (hmm.. what? oh yeah.. mitwaa ishq pe zor naheee) scene had actual story in it, without dialogues.. who is the director? arshad?

and when he rolled her over, there was actual intimacy there.. (that they absolutely forgot when they got up ;p)
we get ten different nicknames from mister six pack to mister khan, and now ayan has started nicknaming him too.. it was a really cute moment.

i loved how actually asad was very hurt about his mom being slandered (shown via flashback), yet kept silent through ayan's trouble saga, and actually tried to console him.

      Delete
    4. Su - had no plans on writing today but tumhari mehnat nay majboor kar diya :D

QH - yes i agree- a good episode in general - but only the Asad /Zoya parts and the ASad/ Ayan part - which gets me wondering every time - if Asad is so ok with her dad being Ayaan's dad (as long as he is out of his house) - and Ayaan is obviously well known to Dilshaad - why don't the brothers meet at home under normal circumstances - why is Ayaan's love limited only to Asad and not tamatar? for all his - 'we are five' - talk - he never tries to even talk about his sister, let alone talk to her!

MB - here, for once, i seem to be in disagreement with you - i actually like the character RK - and don't think he is eccentric (not more than most people that is) - but yes he is insecure still - after all he had forced the girl in the beginning + he is not denying that she loves him - he just wants to know if she loves him, the real him or the facade

And - if the precap comes true - me for one will be really happy - coz i don't understand these so called great relationship where there is no communication - so if they can clear this out and move on - great - which would be acceptable as most people argue and make up in a bit, not create major MUs out of nothing.

Also - his question about walking away from it all was a rhetorical question - he wanted to see her reaction - not walk off that's why i did not understand her withdrawal - (Walking off - he will have commitments, settlements to do before he CAN walk off into the sunset - and even if was eccentric enough to do it - she could have talked to him later)

I have a feeling (could be totally wrong) but i feel the story is going the abhiman way (if MB is to enter films)

Another random thought - Someone wrote that the hate marriage was brought about coz of failing TRPs - that i do not believe, at all - the story introduced the hero around the 30th epi - by that time ex-MB boyfriend had already been introduced. Also the whole contrast of the 'average middle class family with simple dreams of having a simple house etc' were contrasted with the hero from the beginning - I really think this IS how the story was to be played out (though cant say anything about the future)

do keep giving your takes - i invariable as per habit will come here, without Dia's edit to look forward to, your takes make it worthwhile :D

    5. I watched the QH episode today after all the comments here ...

Zoya ... Allah miya ... what's wrong with this girl?! Behaviour like this from a small town innocent Khushi is understandable, but really ... following Asad around behind his back in the fond belief that he will not turn around and see her? And trying to listen to his phone conversation? This is from a NY returned educated girl?! Firms my belief that Gul has limited creativity in terms of bubbly chirpy heroines. She can only make them look silly.

Asad - KSG does not impress. He looked like he was trying to hide a smile at times, and during the Asad-Zoya scene, his emoting was off ... the worry about Ayaan being found didn't really come through. Neither did much awareness of Zoya. Mish mash of a scene - was it supposed to be an initial awareness of each other, on one or both sides?
      I didn't like the song.
The brothers scene with Asad putting aside his own concern for his mother, and trying to advise Ayaan like an older brother was nice.

    6. Dia, thats what i said about the laughter in the eyes during serious scenes.. and after seeing OTT khuhsi, OTT zoya does not bother me that much.. though zoya eating chips cannot compare to khushi stuffing her mouth with a whole samosa!

    7. All,

I am back again after real life took over for some serious time. So just did reading of posts at 5.30 am when I woke up with my morning tea. So I was here and not here as well. :-)

Su, lived our writeuos and QH is the only one I can relax with when AD is tough. So I am at the stage where I try to catch it.
Reg QH, I just see with my eyes and not my heart which invariably got pulled in for ipkknd.
I seriously love the 'Allah miya what's wrong with you' lady with no reservations and with all her silliness.

But i have serious questions about ayaan's maturity level if this story has to move forward on AYAAN marrying Zoya.
I mean he does know that asad is his brother.
And I hope he does know that for that to happen, his father had to have had a relationship with asad's mother and his mother is not the only woman in his father's life.
And I hope he does know that there is some amount of bad blood for him t be forbidden to meet the other family.
And does he know that his mime is the second wife and the father left asad's mom for his mom.
And he s the one who keeps telling his father that he has to do right by the family. So what exactly does he mean by that. Close his eyes when asad's mother comes in front of him and open his eyes for asad with the sister's status not decided as yet.

Looking at yesterday's episode it looked a perfect zee tv serial, intruder, foreign girl friend, Internet chatting, engagement breaking, villi with big eyes. Not to forget the trip and fall. Just don't knw where it is going.

Now I have to catch up on the rest.
I have my French niece staying with me this week and explaining the serials to her was even more tiresome than seeing it. Because I had to explain why the girls cry, why the girls laugh. My son wanted her to see 'the serial my mom was addicted to' and I had to show her one episode. And my son put the episode where arnav returns from the kidnapping and the khushi trial is being held in front of the entire family. I had to give her background in addition to my son standing next t the television and giving translations for each and every line. In between, she was giving expert comments as to why both sisters did not whack the guy and walk out of the house and make bth the heros run after them to get them back.
I told her I seriously did not know.

And in between she was telling me to notice the skin difference between the face and the neck to see the actual colour difference of the skins of the females, with make up and without make up. Of course thus was for One of the ads of saathiya which came. Now one more thing for my brain to notice now. As if all the other things were not enough.

    10. Mona,
MB is probably one thing we will not agree on, you are right there.
I loved your comment on how you feel for ASR and RK and less for the heroines.
In my case, it is somehow different. (No wonder people call me a feminist though I keep denying it!) I don't have any particular love for Madhu, esp after the way DD killed the character, but a woman wronged is a woman wronged. I simply can't understand how a guy who defended his wife so eloquently once before in front of his whole family can doubt her feelings for him. Have you watched the epi whereafter Mallik is revealed as the assailant, RK saves him from imprisonment- his whole family including his amma and Bittooji (yes, dear bittuji who was not so near and dear to bhabhiji then) urge him to throw Madhu out. I don't know if you will feel the same about RK's characterisation then. Opti has tried to clear matters for me saying he can trust her with his life, but may be not with his heart. I don't agree. RK knows she was not just being altruistic when she saved him. Or does he think she would have walked to Siddhi Vinayak barefoot and brought back the dead to life, had it been bittooji or any aera gaera in his position?
If they wanted to show that insecurity I would've really appreciated it if they showed him battling with his feelings even after original KC. Instead they got RK ready to confess his love and then Dips struck. Actually till then, things were going smooth for me. They should have shown him not able to trust her with his heart (like the way he pretended to be asleep when Madhu came near him- he knew about her feelings then.), instead they went the trp way.
You are right , they might go the abhimaan way. I have been waiting for it from the day the promos were aired. The story is about a girl who was born not in a hut, not in a mansion, not in a hospital, but in a set- so she is all set to enter filmdom- she was destined to be a star. And reluctantly too, as the promo clearly showed. I am just waiting fotr that track. Th ehate marriage was not rushed, I agree with you. I feel it was well timed.

      Enough of MB.
On QH: why don't the brothers meet at home under normal circumstances - why is Ayaan's love limited only to Asad and not tamatar? for all his - 'we are five' - talk":

I would've understood this question better if you had asked me how come Asad gifted him a bike and not a kitten (which could have been hidden/ explained away some way.LOL)- now that'd have been a kosten!

The bros are not supposed to be meeting up. Both of them keep it from their parents. Ayan has told his siblings and Rashid overheard him. Shireen once asked him if he meets up with him and he lied to her- he said it was by chance. (Hmm..any one wondering on what is the common factor btn Ms. New York and her BIL.)

It is all the more important that the bros don't meet because of Nikhat's marriage. No one knows of Rashid's first wife. And Nikhat's marriage has broken twice already because of her colour and so on.
BTW, did you know that all the girls-both Ayan's sisters and Asad's sister study in the same college. They know about each other, but keep away strictly. Nikhat tried to smile at Najma once, but I guess Najma is less forgiving than Asad. Asad does not want to burden his ammi with details about his dad's other family. I think that is why the bros meet in secret.

    11. Dia,
I actually felt you wouldn't like QH much. This is what Gul does- she has to show comedy in between romance and drama- that is just the way she does it. I guess I tune in regularly for a good laugh.Plus I really like the drama in their lives.(Watch it like you are watching 'friends'-indianised with some family masala.- Mona is going to kill me for this!)

      Usha,
On Zoya and Ayan: the temporary marriage is like the worst idea Gul ever had. I hope she changes her mind later.

I find Ayan very interesting. In fact this whole triangle of Rashid- Shireen- Dilshad really interests me.
Ayan is not mature, I think Gul is very clear about that. The interesting thing is, I feel both the bros don't look up to their dad much. Rashid is a weakling- spineless as Mona calls him. But he is repenting- he says- "I don't know if I deserve Dilshad's forgiveness."
Ayan actually looks up to Asad a lot. He is his everything. Dilshad is not a wife any more and Ayan did not even know she was the bone of contention between his parents. He just saw that his mom was unhappy- knew daddy spineless made her that- came running to know- it -all bhaijaan. And he did give him some SOLID ADVICE! I loved that talk before Zoya barged in. Asad knows his mom was the reason Ayan's parents fought and therefore gave his word that nothing'd separate them. He knows his mom does not want Rashid back in her life at the cost of another woman's tears, even if she can't bring herself to hate him. (I love that triangle, again.)

    12. Su,
And I really feel for dilshad in all this because everybody is being so unfair to her including her son asad in not treating her as a person with any human feelings. He decides for her whether she should have feelings for her legitimate first husband or not, whether rashid deserves it or not is another question but asad deciding for her does not go well with me.

    13. I have to say ... I may not watch the shows, but reading the live commentary on QH and MB here is great fun! And it's keeping me up to date with the shows too ... if ever I tune in to watch, I know what's happening! Keep it up, girls!

Usha, I laughed at your description of how you tried to explain to your French niece what was happening, and her questions!!!

Su, why didn't Asad gift his brother a kitten and not a bike ... ROFL

QH is making more sense to me than MB from the discussions here ... it does seem to have a direction. Although the biggest question, why Rashid has suddenly woken up to his responsibilities to his first wife and his dormant love for her after 17 years, still remains unexplained.
The standard answer ... nahin toh serial kaise banta?
In other words, don't look for logicwa on the serial boatwa :)))

    14. usha, asad KNOWS that his mom still has feelings for his dad.. that is why he is being so stubborn and autocratic to her.. because he does not want her to be hurt again(seems he does know that his dad's actions hurt his mom a lot)..

last month sometime, rashid had called and requested to come visit asad's home.. and dilshad wore his favorite color and all.. and asad and najma both (unwillingly) waited..rashid got permission to visit from shireen too.. but at that precise moment, nikhat's rishtewaale had come and so the meeting did not happen, but rashid did not call to explain -until later.. everyone saw how hurt dilshad was..

now why would asad want his mom to be called a homebreaker by that awful auntie(whatshername), when actually it was shireen who broke his moms home?

rashid does not want to take up his responsibilities as dilshad's husband.. he just wants to rekindle his lost love.. i guess ONLY after ayan bugged him about "we are all family"

PS. french neice and indian serials.. wow.. must be a very tough job :D try showing her some hindi movies first, to showcase what bollywood masala is all about :D

    15. J,
"now why would asad want his mom to be called a homebreaker by that awful auntie(whatshername), when actually it was shireen who broke his moms home?":

Yesss...That was the one of the most dramatic moments in QH so far for me. It was the irony of that awful aunt's dialogue (Raziya btw):the audacity with which she accused Dilshad of trying to entrap Rashid- when it was Shireen who was guilty of the same many years back. And loved the way Asad supported his mom on her word- (Thats why I don't mind Zoya's play ticket not turning up- Asad does not need proof to believe Dilshad when she says she wouldn't have gone had she known Rashid was coming too.)

Got a small clue to their past from that scene. Asad told Raziya that her sister wouldn't be Rashid's wife if it was not for Dilshad's huge heart. Plus Shireen's dialogue to Raziya in the next epi where she says she did not have to do anything to attract Rashid when she was young- he simply fell for her.

I feel Rashid must have got Shireen pregnant, Dilshad agreed to a second wife and then may be Raziya and her husband got the first wife and children thrown out. They are not married any more, so talaq was given.

I don't know what Rashid wants actually. I believe Mr. Spineless is mighty confused now. He wants Dilshad more than Shireen now. I don't think he will press for a remarriage, but he KNOWS NOW and probably for the last how many ever years that he was unjust to her. He definitely wishes Dilshad'd forgive him. He wouldn't press for a relationship unless he felt she was interested too. And he knows she has not forgotten him. Dilshad's heart still beats only for Rashid.(The look on both their faces as Raziya screams and asks her to go find some other man for herself.)
Rashid is not spineless exactly now, because HE RAISED the issue of the argument with Raziya. He would have stayed silent and not brought it up had hhe been slimy. And he did tell Raziya that money was not important to him (since when?)- she had no right to interfere in his life to which she reminded him of the 'consequences' he'd have to face if Humeiraa's abbu got news of all this.(Must be quite a formidable man, that one.)

Did Ayan tell him 'we are all family' or did he overhear the convo? If he said that to his dad he wouldn't be hiding the bike.

      Dia,
On why Rashid woke up after 17 years- it was not out of sight out of mind for him. He had been harbouring the guilt for some time, but he knew what he had done was too grave to receive forgiveness (he still wonders if Dilshad can actually forgive him- the dialogues are very much there.). I think he thought Dilshad had moved on. Then they met after Asad was hospitalised- and he saw the pain and longing in her eyes.
Dilshad was caught offguard then, and she could not hide her feelings. She will be more careful in the future, hopefully.

      Usha,
I feel Asad is not a tyrant. He simply does not want more heartbreak for his mom- exactly as J explained it.
(A tyrant is what Zoya sees him as BTW, hence the name jahanpanah.)
PS: french niece- what is her opinion on BIg Boss?

      Delete
    16. su, auntyji(raziya) herself said that she was lying at the theater, to dispel the myth that rashid was at fault, at an important juncture like this-- while nikhat's wedding is being arranged. Raziya believes that rashid might indeed go back to dilshad.. hence her constant screwing with shireen's brain. (i have to say.. except for the voice, the shireen character is quite straightforward and likeable.. though sometimes she acts extremely dumb when the screenplay wants her to..)

as i speculate, there was no adultery.. my backstory is something simpler.. rashid was aam aadmi with dilshad and family, then shireen's brother offered him great tarakki if R married s, D asked R to marry shireen and move out to the mansion..(yeah.. mahaanta.. but then , this is tellyduniya) shireen made rashid promise to forget his other family.. and he abided... of course, add some twenty twists and turns..

ayan told rashid 'we are family, asad is your son too, and he saved my life.. you should at least visit him once ' after the accident . rashid has a no-contact order from shireen, but still he managed to avail permission for one visit, quoting ayan's reason.

i guess ayan is also under the no contact order, hence the secret meetings (in marketplaces and shopping malls)

    17. J,
      Thanks.
'ayan told rashid 'we are family, asad is your son too, and he saved my life.. you should at least visit him once ' after the accident': i missed that epi. I aws so bugged after the hospital scene, I think I stopped watching for sometime.
YOur back story without the adultery could be right too. But why did Asad tell Raziya that it was his ammi's decision that had decided Shireen's fate once. I don't think it was the tarakki because Rashid seemed flustered when Raziya brought that up. He defiantly said money was not important to him- I think it was never important. Also, Dilshad laments to her son, she wished she knew what she had done to deserve this fate. So,I don't think she asked him to move in with the other wife.
Shireen is VERY DENSE. She is not the type who will make Rashid promise something like that. She is a blank paper on which you can't even write anything. She is mindless, but has a mind of her own. Raziya tries to poison her mind against Rashid and Dilshad, but she cannot see it. I think after the second marriage it was Raziya and hubby's idea to separate Rashid from Dilshad. It was still very early in their relationshiop and Rashid was head over heels in love with his second wife- he let Dilshad go. I wonder if we will get to know the past or will Gul do a BFTP on us again? Anyway, doesn't matter that much here.

Shireen- that actress is damn good and the characterisation is excellent. At first, I thought she was a bad actress and then I realised she was doing exactly what the character demanded- look totally dense. She is very good at heart. Remember how she told Raziya that Rashid has every right to think about Asad and Najma- after all, they are his children, though not from her. That scene where she came wearing that sexy nightie- Rashid feigns a headache- does not want to hurt her feelings- she is not that DENSE not to understand what is happening in her marriage- but she is slow and a gem of a person. That is why her children love her so much.(When Raziya told her to confront the other woman in her life- Dilshad- she did the right thing, she turned to Rashid and asked him why he did this to them. *applause* for that scene. It was perfect even with KSG's bd.)
Shireen has her heart and brains in the right place, she is too innocent to be a manipulator ever. And thankfully, no one can manipulate her thoughts to make her hate any one either.

    18. Jaya, su,

      Actually in my mind,

      Rashid is spineless
Shireen is sweet and with a massive insecurity as to when the dilshad sword will fall on her head.
One side is shireen, the other side is dilshad and both wanting and waiting and insecure about rashid. One has him and one doesn't have him. One wants him and the other has reconciled that she doesn't want him. Now the big question is when will the women realise that this man is not worth fighting for. My SKD.

Dont mistake me, I like asad and I like the way that he stands up for dilshad. But the more he stands up for her, she becomes weak in my eyes. But maybe her character is that. Not able to voice her anguish. If that, she does it well because that is what it comes through as.

I am totally confused about Ayaan and doesn't he know that shireen his mom has taken away rashid from asad's mom and his mom is the second wife and to come and complain to asad to me sounded silly but then when has his character come across as intelligent. So QED.

AND I LOVE ZOYA absolutely without reservations with all her silliness, idiosyncrasies, everything, allah Miyan what's wrong with me!

French niece loves Hindi movies, she comes every year but she needs it with subtitles. So she told me that she will see my mills & boon serial after she downloads it with subtitles.
Su, she doesn't get to see big boss as I don't see big boss. She s trying to get me to see desperate housewives and so totally empathised with me as to how I could nt see IPKKND without arnav if arnav had been killed because some matt in desperate housewives was killed off 2 episodes before the season finale and desperate housewives has not been the same ever since and she has not been able to see it. it is such fun to have a 21 year old girl around who has opinions on everything.
She just sat and gave me a commentary about BALIKA VADHU asking is this young bride who get married second time and is still crying and that is the evil grandmother who has gone back to being evil.

    19. Usha - completely with you on your take on Rashid - not only is he spineless, he is a wimp! - the women need to realize he is not worth it! (infact i like both ladies compared to the SSW!)
And if i am not mistaken, Dilshad is still his wife - where was his 'guilt' for 17 years when she was fending for herself and her kids - he was being guilt in the arms of another woman, producing babies with her????

      Delete
    20. J

there is no adultery coz he 'married, both women - but both marriages must have overlapped for quite a few years - D+SSW were married 31 years ago, separated 14. Ayaan is at least 21/22 years as he has completed college (assuming that college for the dodos does not include post graduation!!) - so def. something must have happened after the mahaan Dilshad accepted the second wife for years OR she found out about the second wife after a couple of years and hence the separation (which is NOT likely coz Ayaan talked of learning to walk holding Asad's hand, or something like that!)
However, this being Gul's serial, we probably will ever know what happened before

    21. I watched QH yesterday with no expectations of a love story, and mind geared for family drama with plenty of comedy a la SGP ... now it is watchable! Zoya as another Suhana, Western educated English speaking, yet a bird brain, Asad is a normal slightly uptight guy with antiquated notions about women, otherwise he's okay ... the young lot are all bad actors, this time I didn't even like Humeira, she was simpering far too much ... the older lot are watchable, and the drama about shaadi toot jayegi was like a BW movie of the 70's ... got it :)))

And Rashid is SSW ... such a good name for him! I agree with Mona ... we will probably never find out how and why Asad and Ayaan forged a bond, and the sisters did not, and how the families separated in the first case 17 years ago.

      Now to tackle MB! :)))

Gul forgets about the past - BFTP = WFTP ... so NO expectations whatsoever.

Gul has burnt her fingers with her love stories going out of hand, the second one blew itself up with the chemistry ... so now she's making sure the chemistry remains well hidden.

Seriously, doesn't Zoya remind you of Suhana? Total birdbrain ... Suhana used to throw dishes when she had a tantrum, Zoya plasters food all over the place. Both are equally bad-mannered ... they are supposed to be 'a child at heart' ... as if that is excuse enough.
Ishaan was a bhondu, though ... a sweet guy, but a bhondu ... Asad is slightly better than him. Sweet guy, but living in 15th century. No chance of falling for him. So Gul is safe.

      LOL.
Actually this is exactly how I see QH. It is a comedy first. There is some drama too. The romance will come much much later. It is so different from IPK that way. There it was all about that invisible pull.

I feel if we remember it is a comedy, we will not be disappointed.

      Delete
    26. Dia that's what my sister said a while ago when I was watching Bachelors Party clips in FB. These 2 together were too good for TV. *sigh*

Yes Gul is safe this time .... No SP no chemistry yet I feel she is not doing half the job.

Watched initial episodes of IPK after ages today and seriously I felt the fury of all people who had access to initial and current episodes both. To me as I din't have access to initial episodes ... current ones din't bother me much. It had charm of its own. It was better than lots of other crap shows around.

Now that I have watched ... I was thinking what crap were we dished last 2 months. It did end absolutely with the remarriage track.

I have lived SaRun more now than ArHi I guess yet in initial episodes no trace of Barun or Sanaya. Pure Arnav and Khushi. That's not what it was like in last 2 months. Actually invasion started as early as post Holi.

There will not be another IPK ... Not soon anyways so yea ... TV surfing is better. No expectations at all. I can't take character justification left right and center in every serial that happens. Be it for good or bad.

IPK took show not tell to whole new level.

sama, that was exactly why i said that for me, the story ended on the day of the second griha pravesh.

and actually, the rest of the story was not consistent with the original storyline.. (CASE IN POINT, characterization of arnav..who was strong and silent, suddenly was characterized as the college heartthrob..)not happening, mate!

so i'm guessing someone else wrote the story for the last 2 months ;D

the last two months were stopgap because they didn't know whether BS was staying or going ...
ORRRR they knew he wasn't staying, hence they didn't bother ... they would re-start afresh once Arnav died.

Yep, story ended for me the day of the second grihapravesh too ... and when they jumped straight over the BFTP after that one good scene, into ending Shyam ... Arhi story effectively over.

The hate marriage was an after thought. This was said by the produceer himself. They wanted Madhu's entry into films before RK-Madhu marriage but since trps were dropping, they had to get RK-MB together as viewers were more keen to watch these two together.

    1. Aww, thanks, mads *hugs* I'm still playing around with it, it's my hubby's baby actually, and he does the photographs page, I am useless on that front. I still haven't managed to figure out how to add albums on FB! But the writing part I do, and I like :)))

Yep, photos are password protected ... I will set up an email for friends, so those who want can take the pw and view the pictures. Have to figure that one out yet :)

You watched Kismat? Wasn't it fantastic? I love the book, one of my old favorites ... and I thought YRF did a great job translating that into the Indian scenario. One of the few shows my hubby watched with great interest, and without a single sarcastic comment!!

Loved the way they had both the boys born at the same time as the birth of independent India ... loved the whole show. I need to watch the whole thing again ... I missed some episodes, but I loved both the guys, Viraf and Rahul Bagga. Perfectly cast for their roles ... Viraf had that suave, born with silver spoon look, and Rahul Bagga looked every inch that rough-hewn, from the wrong side of the tracks guy ... perfect!

Am off next week as well ... will be back mid-Jan ... fingers crossed we will get news of Sanaya by then. And yes, ... SHIDDAT ... with Viraf ... join the SHIDDAT gang!!! We're growing bigger and bigger every day!

By the way, just saw that NB5 has Gautam Rode hosting with Karan Wahi ... does that mean that Gautam Rode is not in the SLB show after all?

  12. After a long time, I thought I will see some serial entertainment to unwind me after a long day at work. I tuned into PKDH wherein Adi sees Pankhudi in ICU. Damnit yaar. The acting of the lead was so pathetic, when he walks out all dazed and goes and talks to the Shivaling and does the jap for the life of Pankhudi. No angst, no nothing and no complete shock. I always wanted a scene of Arnav begging the devi maiyya for Khushi's life - something like Khushi's words of 'I won't be there when you realize that Devi maiyya writes your destiny' comes true. Barun would have nailed it hands down. Sorry to say the whole episode feel so cliched and I couldn't even watch like the end. And I immediately went to YouTube and watched the ambulance scene and the premarriage Arnav's breakdown scene. Koi kuch bhi kahe. After Barun's portrayal of ASR, the bar has been raised considerably higher for other guys to portray angst. He does it too good and the scenes don't feel like they are a TV serial. Sigh IPK what have to done to me.

    1. The chanting of the 'Mahamritunjaya mantra' brought old memories back ... when my dad was sick ten years ago, the hospital had a waiting room with a small pooja alcove. I used to sit there every morning for an hour and chant that mantra silently. My brother, who is very much like Arnav in terms of being an unbeliever, yet letting everyone observe their faith their own way, never came into the alcove himself, but everyday made sure I went in ... if I didn't sit there for an hour, he asked me why I hadn't prayed. I believe in the power of that mantra ... my dad recovered completely.

Rest of the episode was pretty meh ... acting was poor. I think Aditya's voice in that mandir scene was dubbed, it sounded better than normal. And the way Pankhudi recovers instantaneously was very unrealistic.

What I was noticing, since the acting and direction didn't hold my interest so much ;) ... the sets - the hospital sets were good, with signs up everywhere, not just one whiteboard with scrawled doctors' names ... and the outdoor mandir set, with the storm effects ... so well done, with enough time given to each and every scene.

Pity the actors were not good enough for the emotions to percolate through, also the screenplay was quite bad ... Harish tells Adi that Pankhudi is out of danger, I liked that Adi broke down first ... but then he goes straight into 'why did it bother me so much? Oh, because I love her ...' duhhhhh, did he just figure that one out?!

I also remembered Samrat's breakdown when Gunjan was shot ... Mohit did a far better job of showing Samrat's desperate fear and panic when Gunjan almost died - he was superb in those breakdown scenes. Adi didn't bring that across ... he was supposed to be dazed, but he came across flat.

    2. Dia, Rajshree productions is a good PH and they do spend well on the cast/costumes and the sets. It is a pity that the actors are not doing justice to the characters and are falling flat. Earlier all, I thought only Pankhudi couldn't act well but now yesterday the onus was on Adi and I thought he would do the scene well given that he is slowly getting the feelings of love being aroused in him. But the actor fell flat for me. The bar for breakdown scenes have been raised higher IMO since I always seem to be comparing Arnav's breakdown which I know is not fair. But still had the lead actor gotten to at least 0.5 of what Arnav(Barun) did, I would have given him a fair chance. Sigh, now I guess if I have to watch PKDH I have to make peace with 0.6 expressions of the lead Adi along with 0.5 expressions of Pankhudhi and this is me being fair to both the actors.

Mukesh is also not impressing me in this serial. The only 2 people who impress me in PKDH is Avantika and Harish. They portray the headstrong and egoistic couple real good and their nok-jhok is really nice. Rest all are okay nothing great to rave about.

Dia, I think SLB's show is getting delayed some more and mostly it will be end feb for the show to air. And that is the reason I think Gautam Rode is hosting NB but usually it is the winners of the last season who host the new series and last time it was Daljeet-Shaleen. So no idea who is hosting the show.

      Delete
    3. Yep, agree with you on Mukesh Khanna ... he seems to still not have gotten over his Bheeshma Pitamah hangover. That was his best role on TV, in Ramanand Sagar's Mahabharata, and he really did it very well. But that was over 20-30 years ago!!! His current performance still has traces of that, especially his dialogue delivery. Or maybe I still remember him in that role - it was a powerful role, and like I said, he did full justice to it. Nothing he has done since has matched up. Unlike Paintal, who is doing the Dadaji role well, although it has less scope.

The younger actors are not a patch on the older ones ... but that's how they will learn. I tolerate them, much prefer watching Avantika, Harish, Preeti and even Shiela - she may be a vamp, but her acting is good!

I still remember watching Daljeet-Shaleen doing Dola Re on NB ... Shaleen dressed as a woman - he was really, really good! I saw Karan Wahi and another guy hosting on the NB5 promo - and someone mentioned it's Gautam Rode, that's why I was wondering. I don't recognise Gautam Rode myself.

      Delete
    4. Ditto with your views Dia. I too was feeling that Mukesh has the Bheeshma Pitamah hangover especially in the dialogue delivery for PKDH. The scene wherein he scolds Rubel saying 'you did a gunah and not a galti', I felt he was the same Bheeshma Pitamah which I used to see when I was watching Mahabharat. The younger generation sadly doesn't have any spark with them in this serial. And Rajshree is known to make family dramas and they involve everyone in the serial - but suddenly the whole of Pankhudi's family is going missing in action. They are there only for a scene or two in the whole week.

I loved the last NB and the performance I remember the most was DB and Shaleen doing mere haath mein blindfold. Too good. And also there was one dream vs reality performance which was too good. Hmm so Karan and Gautam are going to host the show. Let's see what is up on the SLB's project. I am not getting good vibes for this serial. Hopefully the serial will go on air and any more delay the interest of the viewer would change and the serial may not take off as expected.

I loved that last scene with brother tying rakhi to sister, and sister tying back to brother ... has been happening in my home for ages, as both my son and daughter want to tie rakhis as well as get them tied :)

Hope Ranvi's school performance perks up, though :(
The little touches of Ranvi taking Veera for her vaccination shots, marking her growth on the wall, measuring her in 'bilang' ... my mom and I still use that measure when a measuring tape is out of reach :)
Liked the way they showed the passage of time over the years, the festivals, the seasons ... Ratan's inability to accept Veera with time, even as she continues to wait for Sampooran.

    7. Agree with Sarada and Sama ... they should shift Veera to 8 pm. It's a complete family show, and very well made to boot. Today's scenes between Veera, Ranvi and Moti Chaiji were simply adorable ... Moti Chaiji is so enjoying being with the kids, pampering them, scolding them, loving them, all her motherly instincts to the fore ... she keeps scolding them, yet her love is overflowing ...
And love the way she chats with Rabji ... reminds me of Khushi's chats with her Devi Maiyya, as though she's on totally pally, mere yaar type terms with Rabji!

  16. Of the three shows I am watching, Veera ranks first, MB second and QH, a poor third (In fact these days I find it difficult to sit through the full episode of QH). I have restarted watching DABH and right now even that is better than QH.

In MB, I loved that finally we are getting to see a hero who is intelligent as well as sensitive. It does not take long for this guy to connect the dots, once he gets some hint. Su was upset about how he could have dared to trust Madhu's love although I did not find that out of place considering that this guy has been always been impetuous, impatient and insecure. If I can put up with ASR's frozen brain for nearly four months, I can well put up with a petulant hero whose misunderstanding of his aadhi adhuri wife lasted less than a day. All it needed was a vicious sister-in-law to inadvertantly let the man know that all is not well with Madhu's parents and the man was able to appreciate the emotional stress the girl was in. He lets the girl know that he trusts her love and does not even let her explain, doing all the explanation himself because he did not want her cry as she was bound to while explaining. He even tells her his intention to correct his wrong (the half marriage) and make her his wife, with all rituals followed.

One may ask why would a man who is so keyed in to how his wife's brain is wired have a problem comprehending that she loves the man and not the star but then that is RK, the man who is full of contradictions - a man who despises his mother but has no problem letting go of his attacker because he was Madhu's foster father whom she had high regard for and he did not want to hurt her feelings.

Madhu has assumed such a siginicant place in his life that he is fearful of losing her. When Dipali played up his insecurities, he fell right into her trap. She never denied that Madhu was in love with him but only sowed doubt about which part of him she was in love with and rubbed in how he himself was always unlucky in love.

Is there any justification for even doubting which part when Madhu had showed that his status has never matter to her? No, but then who thinks rationally when one is insanely in love? Madhu's reluctance was misconstrued as spurning of his offer of a wild life away from all social and economic trappings. The mature guy just regressed into the kiddish man who was not willing to listen to reason. The good thing about this temperamental guy is that he does not stay in this state for long. Just give him one cue and he then bounces back to his intelligent state and latches on to his knowledge of all her character traits to understand her.

Madhu has a tough life ahead with this guy. The key to the man is to communicate vocally, even if he is in no mood to listen. Persistence pays. I think Madhu is already learning her way around the guy and he has started sofening towards his mom although it is too early to tell.

I find the show an interesting watch, particularly the multi-faceted RK (played very well by VD). DD is also improving in her expressions in recent episodes.

    1. Opti - ditto ditto - exactly what i was trying to say to Su but you do a much better job - enjoy watching a hero who has brains and is sensitive (and a sense of humour - loved the dialogue - "hello, its called dark humour!")

and he was not misjudging her - he just wanted reassurance - which was fair enough - i actually fell in love with the guy for defining why he loves her - not silly predictable reasons like beauty, or even simplely saying 'you are gutsy' - but the way he said the whole thing was really nice

      Delete
    2. Opti - I completely agree with your view so MB. I was quite blown away by the VD and the DD scene yesterday where he tells her why she doesn't want to leave with him, because she wants to see everyone happy. VD did a fabulous job in that scene, I like it that they keep his character intact without turning it too mushy even when he is soft on Madhu. Drashti has not been impressing me at all, I keep comparing her to San and she fall way too short. Overall, quite happy with how the show is progressing, not half as obsessed I was with IPK but something to keep me busy.
QH_ So on the same page with you about QH. What is it with comedy and Gul? Ughh!! Can't stand it, I think I'll just stop watching.

    3. Opti,
ASR atleast had a frozen brain. This fellow's brains freeze and melt with every episode.
I agree with you this is what makes MB the show attractive. The fact that he sticks up for hi swife. My mistake was that I started watching it as Madhu's story. It is not.
Who does RK prefer? The teary Madu or the fiery Madhu? And who is Madhu?
I guess both. My point is, there is no continuity in the story. Maybe that is why i can make peace with the show when i watch it on and off. I do appreciate the good episodes like yesterday, when suddenly every one is in character.

      Delete
    4. Su,

I'd rather prefer a hero who momentarily loses his brains, especially when he is under emotional stress than for a guy who is blind to his wife's goodness even after umpteen instances of it. Talking of continuity, yes some scenes seem sporadic but not more sporadic than our dear IPK. Was there continuity in the story in IPK, especially post the hate marriage? We had both ASR's and Khushi's characters swinging practically every day, blowing hot and cold. Imagine Arnav remembered the entire holi scene when Khushi bared her heart in an intoxicated state and was still harbouring the MU all along. Our love for the jodi and the immense talent and hard work of the actors got us through. So let us not use a different yardsstick for each show.

As to who does RK prefer, the teary or the fiery Madhu, I would say he loves both sides of her but he prefers the fiery one for he cannot stand her tears.

You could not understand why he yelled at her during the original KC and the day after. In my opinion it was partly because he was getting her to fight back and be that fiery self instead of this pathi vratha pathni. He was also unsure whether he really wanted to accord their relationship the status it deserved (which he would have had he broken her fast) as he was unhealed from the scars of his past and was wary of relationships.

He loves to be the centre of her world but he does not like her mooning over him. He wants her to assert her rights over him as much as he himself does. His love confession revealed exactly what he loved about her. To me everyone was in character throughout the show. Their behaviour gets altered on the basis of the circumstances but basic character traits remained. See there is a difference between behaviour and character and I think so far the show has maintained the distinction between the two. Characterisation in this show is far better than IPK but it is lacking in the depts of screenplay, direction and editing.

Apart from Veera, this show is the next best for me.

    5. No comments on the last MB episode?

MB-RK scene - happy pati-biwi, so where's the problem? All lovey-dovey ... bland, actually, no spice. Like RK's attempts to get biwi to accompany him.

RK waiting for Kameena BSC ... aah, this is what I wanted for ASR - to be ASR for the world and Arnav for Khushi. RK is that - retains his arrogance for the world.
BSC is a kameena. That Khalnayak song was ideally suited for him - he looked plain evil.
DN - I saw the first few episodes of MB, so I have a reference point :) As evil as before.
No matter. He spiced up the story. That's why he's there. Otherwise - read above :)

One question to regular watchers ... does RK know BSC is MB's real father? Does BSC know that RK is MB's husband?
Another question - where does Mallik live? Not with MB's mom, is it?

Malik is a good actor. MB's mom is not :)
DD is very Sati Savitri good bahu. Hope she changes later - she's boring. VD is much more interesting to watch.
Another question. What is stopping RK-MB from taking pheras again and completing their marriage? They've both confessed, haven't they?

      Vishesh tippani samapt :)
BG, Opti, Su ... since your discussions are responsible for my watching MB, I want some comments. Especially BG - Shwethu's way of watching the show resembles mine :)

    6. Dia, I too missed a lot of episodes in between but I think RK and BSC do not know the common link they have is Madhu. I think BSC presumes that Madhu is dead.

Dia, I agree with you. RK 's character and the way VD has enacted it is the attraction of the show and now that the offical villian has entered the scene, I'm sure things definitely will spice up. Missed friday's episode because I was flying. I am happy that I get to see a hero who is everything ASR wasn't. This guy sticks up for his wife (in fact he never let any one insult her even when he hated her guts). He has a shrewd mind and has no problem connecting the dots one he gets a cue. He has a good sense of humour (sharp and cryptic but enjoyable nonetheless). He is highly sensitive to his woman's feelings and goes to any extent to alleviate her pain without her knowledge (for he knows she will feel indebted to him if she does). And most importantly, as you mentioned he maintains his rough edge with the rest of the world even while exposing his soft side to his wife. Even his love confession was not all mushy but very matter of fact. Women loved to hear why their man loves them. he did exactly that. He spelt out why exactly he loves her even without being asked.

Why are RK and MB not taking pheras? RK has made up his mind that till his biwi's family problems are sorted out and Mallik and Pads get back together 'their marriage video will be paused'. This is the reason RK takes the efforts to try patching things up between these two. I read a spoiler that Madhu will try to get Mallik and Pads married to each other and RK supports her in this. I guess our kalnayak will ruin the party.

      Delete
    7. Ah, thanks, Opti. That cleared a few things in my mind.

So Pads is still married to BSC, so obviously she can't get married to Mallik. Isn't there any concept of separation for X number of years being enough to get divorce uncontested? I guess no one will think of that ... except maybe RK, since he's the only one with a brain on the show. Even though they don't know the khalnayak producer is Pads' husband, they do know that Pads' husband is alive and kicking, so Pads can't just marry Mallik.

Or is that too much logic? :)

You're right ... RK is good to watch. Problem for me is I need a good strong female lead also, otherwise the show loses my interest. So MB will continue to be sporadic, unless Madhu gets her act together.

  20. PSH:
A very good episode. Sugni was betrayed at first by her lover, then by her husband and NOW the worst of it all, her BEST FRIEND!
Aditya (nephew thakur) asks Champa to come out with the TRUTH and Champa chooses to tell the truth as it suits her. So, in front of the thakurs, the story changes. There was no rape, it was all Sugnis’plan apparently- to insult Kuhu’s in-laws. Sugni’s husband orders her to leave the house. I loved the way the scene was directed. The saat phere starts- sugni starts leaving- encounters Thakur Malik sitting cross- legged (he is the only one who knows she is innocent, since he framed her- does he know he is marrying Kuhu off to a rapist? )- she does not meet his eye at all, and slowly he uncrosses his legs. There is a sorry look on his face, but he is not willing to forgive her yet for betraying is love. (I missed that whole story- I was totally off PSH for sometime- can’t even bother to read up that treack now.)
As Sugni walks out we see the newly wed Kuhu with her husband standing in the bg.
Champa is waiting outside the gates for Sugni. I thought she was blackmailed in to telling this story- Nope. She was bought over!
She tells Sugni she is not mahaan like her. Sugni might forsake her fortunes for Kuhu thakurayin’s sake, but Champa can never be that mahaan. Her explanation is simple. What has happened has happened. She was raped, nothing will change that. So the best thing for her would be to say it was all a story, take the money and walk away. She begs for forgiveness. Sugni reminds her that the very difference between man and animal is the willingness to think selflessly for others- she hopes some day Champa will realize the meaning of her existence- and sends her away with ”Sita maiya tujhe maaf kar de”
One of the best episodes of PSH, I guess. (Though the precap sent me on a WT- Sugni meets Uncle Thakur and tells him she is willing to be his, just like he always wanted. I am not alarmed, I kind of KNOW that this is a heroine centric story- plus it is not an EK show)
This episode finally reminded me of the promos of the show. It was about Sugni running from her bondage- finding Thakur Malik and the promo ended with a question mark. I used to wonder why. Now I know. Thakur Malik was supposed to be grey from the beginning.
Khamoshiyaan: Caught a bit of this. Sid is a damn sweet guy. He is trying to sweet talk Gauri’s mother- he says he wants the love of both his MILs since Gauri has the privilege of having two loving mothers.
MB: Madhubaala- Ek Ishq Ek Junoon. The ishq and Junoon is RK’s, so the story is about him.
RK was good yesterday- he does not look one bit insecure right now. I wonder what brought about that change. Nice dialogues at Madhu’s house- when he told her mom that Maalik did everything for his daughter, I was suddenly remonded of the original father character. Tubelight moment when I realized this character had met with RK in the jail- so he is supposed to come back! Aha! The next minute the promo comes on with the joker Khalnaayak dad! Anyway, I like the premise of bringing him on as a producer outside the industry. I hope this guy is here to stay for atleast the next 4 months. MB needs to be protected from this Khalnaayak. (Better than showing yo-yo RK)

  21. QH: Gul is always in a hurry! Yeh kahaan bhaag rahi hai?
Seriously, any one else would have dragged this chhotta track of firangi girl friend, for a week- not Gul. She winds it up neatly in two episodes. Great comedy!

Hmmm.. This woman must be Russian or something right, certainly not English. Otherwise her Deal would not have sounded like Dil.

BTW, do architects use words like deal? Isn’t it ‘projects’ for them?

Ho! Gul decides to bless the wrong hero with the shatir dimaag- (actually it was not dimaag- it was blind luck!)- Asad finally makes the connection that Zoya is the badtameez girl who ran away from his subordinate’s wedding. And the poor guy is depressed ever since and messes up everything he does. (Uff… He should be thanking his lucky stars she ran away. If he had married her, by now, he would have died of frustration!)

And Asad has certified her a NUT at last.(What took you so long, Mr. Wise Guy?) Careful sweetheart, with what you call her. You know this means you will have to certify her un- nut one day, I hope. (Heh heh.. Gul will make sure you do it even if she looks the same nut to the rest of us!)

Oh! Before I forget, I have one request to Gul. Can you please show Asad going over building plans at a work site ,at least once? So that I can believe he is actually an architect. The office scene yesterday made me it look like he works in a library!

What questions are you asking re deal and dil. Shhh.

Shaatir dimaag, Abhi hero shaatir dimaag nahin dikhayega toh kab dikhayega. In the beginning the dimaag is there, then it gets exhausted and for replenishing ou need money which has also been exhausted. So...........no dimaag, only kabaad.

  26. Veera

Ranvi empties his gullak to buy a toy for Veera, Veera runs all over the village to beg for money to fill her gullak, so that she can get permission to make a paratha for her veer. Brother and sister's lives revolve around each other.

Ranvi shocked when Veera happily says she got the money from him, yet he keeps quiet. Later he asks her, she equally happily says who else could she blame? He agrees.

The plait making scene - cute! Love the way Chaiji dramatizes her horror about Veera's lopsided braid, and the kids enjoy her drama.

Chaiji gets upset about Ranvi's school issues ... good, I wanted to see that surface.

Ratan rushes to the patwari - land problems?

    KSG’s interview with Sabras radio.
    Few points to ponder:
‘ But is it challenging as an actor for you to portray something so different to your real life character?
KSG: Its extremely challenging, because he is also a very multi-layered person, there are so many layers in his personality because of whatever's happened in his past, to keep that on the fore-front at all times is a little challenging.’

I loved this answer. Anyway,I feel ASR and RK must be more difficult to portray than Asad. Asad seems pretty straightforward orthodox- not one bit the angry young men ASR and RK were. I guess KSG has to keep it in the back of his mind that Asad loves orderliness and cannot stand western culture.
Barun did an excellent job, but it must have been tough for him too. That explains the lack of connectivity to the character at times- especially after he came back from the movie- he really took some time to get back into the skin of the character.

KSG does not find the hours too taxing.. so far so good! He’d like to do a movie, like, NOW!!! *head desk*
He does not know when his first movie will be released- I thought that happened some 2 or 3 years back…he still has BW dreams.
Gul, what is it with you and heroes who don’t want to stick on to television?

    1. Su,

KSG always wanted to be in BW. He left DMG because of his debut film Loorie. That didn't pan out and he came back after 7 months to the same serial. It still confuses me that he refused ASR in IPK. I think QH has not exactly taken off. Wait for another 6-8 months. If QH takes off, then he won't wait a second back for the serial.

      Delete
    2. Su,

Whatever little I've seen of QH, I also feel the same ... Asad is not very multi-layered. He's protective about his mother and sister because of his father's betrayal ... any son and brother would be. Now the circumstances of that betrayal are still a mystery ... like you all said, how do Asad and Ayaan have such a good bond, how long did Rashid live with both wives, if at all ... the how and why of Rashid's second marriage. Unless there are some major secrets hidden there, Asad doesn't hold much mystery for me.

Yaar, ALL telly heroes want to do BW, or some movies. Most of the good ones do ... many telly actors do BW, and many BW actors who don't it make it big switch to tellywood. Raj Zutshi of MB was in Maachis, and quite a few other movies, Rakesh Vashisht of Maryada started with movies, did quite a few, he just recently made the switch to tv, Ram Kapoor, Ronit Roy of course ... I don't recollect more but there are plenty. BW is hero-oriented, while TV is heroine-oriented, so most male roles on telly are wallflowers ... that's why the recent spate of anti-heroes have become so popular - Maan, ASR, RK. Because there have been no strong male roles on telly for ages. I last remember Varun Badola in Astitva and Koshish as being really strong roles ... I can't remember a single good hero other than him, who had very much to do in his show. No wonder the guys want to make the move, or at least take a shot at it.
If not BW, they try regional films ... Gurmeet and Karan Kundra I think have both done Punjabi films. Mohit Sehgal actually started with a movie ... Delhi Heights, he didn't get anything else so he tried for tv instead. Recently he did another small film while waiting for Khamoshiyan to launch.

Prachi Desai and Gracy Singh moved from telly to BW and pretty big films too, Rock On and Lagaan. But the list of girls is smaller because a) they get better roles on TV, and b) television is a safer field for women, and they can graduate from lead to supporting roles easily while still young, so they have a much longer innings. And the hours would improve once they are no longer leads, I would imagine, though they would still be long. But not much longer than any other regular field.

So moving between BW and TV is no big deal. Most actors wait for their shows to end or for their roles to be tapered out before they make the switch, that's all. Very few - in fact no one, except the recent exception - are stupid or unprofessional enough to make the switch at the height of their show's fame and popularity. Especially when they are leading roles.

So I don't think KSG will leave QH for a movie again. Although strictly speaking, not 'again' - he did the movie after he left DMG, he didn't leave DMG for his movie. Plus he has been there, done that ... done a movie, which still hasn't seen the light of day. So he knows firsthand the pitfalls of BW. If he does leave the show for a movie, he would be really, REALLY stupid!!!

    3. Dia, I know you are angry on Barun for quitting the show and that is okay. Friends can have difference in opinions but at least be fair yaara. I can give you few examples

1.How could you forget Amar Upadhyay who quit at the top of the serial's popularity. In fact he is the only actor for whom protests were staged in front of the SP offices, his own house and Ekta's office. And if I am correct this was the role that gave Ronit Roy a life in Tellyworld after he was washed out in Bollywood. And the protests were not only limited to India, but also overseas. I was visiting one of my school friends who had a difficult delivery in London and I first hand saw the fans outrage on Mihir's death as the area she lived in was with lot of Immigrants. Of course there was no spamming but they did used to call the offices pretty regularly. But the serial went on for years altogether. Did it shut shop. Nope?

      2. And next is Rajeev Khandelwal. He is still known as Sujal and he was one of the first anti-heroes TV has ever seen. He too quit but the show didn't shut shop.

      3. And recently Sushant Rajput left Pavitra Rishta and that serial was solely going on Sushant - Ankita chemistry and also because they were supposed to be real life lovers. But still the show continued with new Manav and still is one of the top rated shows on Zee. Sushant's movie is releasing now after 1.5 yrs he quit the show.

None of the above shows closed - infact went on for years on. Why is that. Because the PH had conviction to take the story forward. And even if Barun had continued the show, the show was supposed to go off-air in 2-3 months. And here people are blaming as if he was solely responsible to have the show closed down. Nope. The PH didn't have the conviction to take the story forward and they pulled off the show at the first available chance. If so, the creative team would have been with the PH and not quit.

And professionalism - that word gets thrown a lot now-a-days. I am a working professional in tech industry and we do see lot of people quitting jobs. Other public industries may not see people leaving their steady jobs but in tech industry people quit job if they get a little hike in the other company. So do we blame them. Nope. They give their Transfer of Information sessions and stay for 2 weeks and move on.

As far as I see Barun did the same didn't he. Yeah I admit he was not completely forthcoming in his interviews but now he has hopefully learned his lesson. Hopefully next time around he will be firm and tell what he exactly meant. That much I fault him for. But where is the professionalism of the PH involved or the Channel. Were both of them professional in this whole mess. The PH intentionally revealed the putting down of the papers of the lead. Who does that. And why didn't the channel and the PH didn't have an press conference at the end explaining the closure of the show. Because they would have been caught pants down if they did that. So according to me the ability of taking the story forward rests with the PH and the channel and not on the actor.

    4. Cont from previous -

Dia, we never know what decisions would turn out for our good and what will turn out for our bad. But we all need to take that chance. I can relate to Barun as I am also in the same situation and am seriously contemplating quitting my job. You know the situation with my work right. Sometimes you would not be told to quit explicitly but the situation would be such that you would feel quitting is the only thing that can get you a sane life. I want to quit and do that - believe me I want to. Mostly I know this project will fail but still my team will face the wrath. If the going gets tough, I may quit. Will I have regrets on it. Nope. It was needed for my sanity. I still hope things turn out for the better as I would hate to throw my hard work due to some foolish managers. Maybe Barun did that same thing. He quit because he wanted his sanity back and honestly the story was not exactly going great guns. Had he stuck around, then also he would have been bashed for the poor story quality.

I think of it as this way - At least his quitting had the story essence in tact and I as a viewer of this love story for 1.5 yrs didn't feel cheated of the epic love story I fell in love with. Too bad the PH didn't understand the love story they created. And had they continued the story, I am very sure they would have murdered each and every character on the show if they had to get Khushi and Viraf in the end together. The whole approach of the PH was wrong. They could have gone for a leap with Sanaya as daughter but they never did. Why? God knows.

So my honest opinion is - being in a position where you are held responsible for everything even though it is not your fault is too hard. I am living through it and I wouldn't want any one else to go through it. Wouldn't wish it for anyone.

    5. Sarada,

PH wanted to take the story forward, that's why they got Viraf. The first thought of exit with Sheetal for Arnav, fans protested, so they then thought of accident. To say they did nothing is being unfair on the PH. They did as much as they could within their limitations - the biggest one being their hugely popular male lead jumping ship.
They had to get a new love story on board because Barun was leaving, and no one would accept anyone else as ASR. The choice was a new ASR or a new guy - they completed the Arhi love story and went for the latter. So Barun leaving killed the love story, not the PH. It's a pity then that Barun didn't understand the power of the love story he was a part of, if he could want to leave it so easily.

Leap - many actors don't want to go through a leap. If Barun was leaving, and the other actors didn't want a leap, why make them do it for the sake of the person who is leaving? Isn't it more appropriate to consider the feelings of the ones who are staying? Besides, this is the PH's story to tell, not mine. They can decide what they want to show. I can decide if I want to watch it. I can't tell them what to show. Unfortunately one big mistake the PH made was to listen too much to the voice of the fans and cave to fan and SP pressure. They lost their own story somewhere in the middle.

      Barun stupid and unprofessional -
Stupid to walk out at the height of popularity of his show. You took Amar's example ... what did Amar achieve by walking out of his show? Did he make it big in BW? Where is he today?

Unprofessional - doing two things together. If PH and SP pressured him to stay back, if he had been professional and committed, he should have dropped the movie. After all, the show had come first and given him his first big hit. But he wanted to follow his BW dream. Fine - but then don't say he worked so hard doing two shifts and all that jazz ... nobody asked him to do that. He did it for himself.

Unprofessional - Barun's clear lack of interest once he came back after the movie shoot. Tracks were bad ... all right, but he was still working. Why the lack of commitment to his looks and personal grooming? As long as he was working and on the sets, he should have taken care of at least that. Tracks were not in his hand, but his own looks were. Look at the start of the show and at the last few months and see the difference. Is that being professional? Even Akash and Payal lost interest, with more reason - their characters were ignored ... but till the last day they were well groomed and in keeping with their characters.

Barun was never bashed for poor story quality. Only the PH was bashed for that. Khushi was bashed for being OTT, even there the cv's were criticised more. The fandom has always been able to separate cv's and actors here.

    6. Stupid - to the core - his recent interview, full of contradictions.
I did not leave the show for movies.
I have signed my second movie. It is based on cricket.

This within two days of his return. So are we to assume that he went blithely off for a holiday in the UK knowing he was jobless and came back and in two days he signed his next movie? So either he's telling the truth and didn't leave for movies, but he just got lucky as soon as he returned and signed one in the next two days - that makes him honest - but rather stupid.

Or he had the offers all along, he went for his holiday, took the time out to decide, came back and signed. That makes him smarter - but dishonest.

      Take your pick.
      Wait, there's more.

I will be jobless for five months.
I start workshops for the movie in Jan and shooting starts in April.

Um, this is December ... Jan is one month away, not five. And in the middle come the MAMR promotions.

Does the guy take us all for fools?!

I have no problems with BS leaving for whatever reasons ... stupid or otherwise - his life, his priorities. I even felt sorry for him because I thought he had marital issues and taking time off work for those was entirely excusable, and so was keeping quiet about them. Now it turns out that he was planning on quitting all along, the wife and 'tired' and 'indefinite break' was just an excuse - for what? To make people feel sorry for him? To retain his fandom which he now needs for his movies?

And the 'private' guy brings his wife in at every interview ... and claims no one else understands him. And not a word of remorse that the show shut down, not even a word about the show that gave him all his fame.

You can stick up for him all you want - but I have lost all respect for him after his last interview. And it has nothing to do with the shutting down of the show, but with the way he handled his exit. Whatever show he comes in on telly, I will stay away from, because I won't know when he will want to leave because he's lost interest, got a movie or needs to babysit his wife. As for his movies, I will see them if they get good reviews ... I am picky about the movies I watch.

On the other hand, I will give Gul and the PH another chance, because all said and done, the first year of their shows are good to watch. But like Opti and Usha, will try to watch without getting too attached to the characters. That's why I hope Sanaya doesn't come in a 4lions show - like I said, I'm not too impressed with their female characterization.

  28. since we are talking about other shows, and BHPH is technically "other show" ... and of course, watching other shows on YT is still watching.. (yeah, i'm trying to get over IPK, not very successfully, but yet..) watch this scene to get the essence of shravan and saanchi.
