TV This Week will now be a weekly post to discuss all the shows we're watching.
Veera ... Ranvi's troubles at school continued, Ratan found out he was not attending class because of Veera and determined to do something about it. The village people instigated by evil chachi, also warned Ranvi to have nothing to do with Veera. Ranvi fights with evil chachi's son over Veera (SN - I need to get the names sorted out!). Because of all the problems due to Veera, Ratan leaves Veera in an orphanage. Chaiji is not happy. Ranvi is upset without Veera, and in the orphange, Veera cries incessantly without her brother.
They say 'jodiyan upar se ban ke aati hain.' In this show, they're showing another kind of divine love, for the first time I have seen on screen ... the love between a brother and a sister. Beautiful.
Not keeping up with anything else ... have had a very hectic weekend, and just caught up with the last episode of IPKKND and Friday's episode of Veera.
Monday 3rd Dec ... Ranvi is looking for Veera, Ratan is looking for Ranvi. Liked the Gurudwara scene again. Ranvi starts to lose faith in Ratan's words about looking for Veera.
Tuesday 4th Dec ... Scene I loved - Ranvi holding up a hand written - scrawled - message to Pari Maa to bring back Veera ... his friends see him, and rush to help by adding their own messages. The innocence of childhood, the togetherness, readiness, eagerness to help their friend, that faith in the essential goodness of everyone, including Pari Maa.

Dia,
ReplyDeleteYes, Veera shows another type of love, a love so pure and unadulterated that it brings tears to my eyes every time I see its manifestation in the innocent interactions between Ranvi and the rest of his world regarding his sister. The poor boy now thinks that the fairy who had come in his dreams has taken away his sister. Ratan's guilt at seeing her son's longing for his sister is touching. What I like about this show apart from the two cute kids (Ranvi and the baby) is that most characters are so real - no one is absolutely right or wrong. Circumstances make them do certain things which may not be nice. Their consience then haunts them down.
Dia, Opti,
Deleteabsoltely agree.....for a person who normally only watches serials until the romantic angle is tied up.., thats usually my attention span....except in soaps like Saans, Hasretein, Astitva which i watched for a longer time..(am a very stupid viewer in that sense), this time around, Veera's characters have me riveted for now....the flow of scenes are very real pat down to the reactions of all the little boys..
so at the moment, Veera is all i am watching except that i watch it at a later time...
Rekha, hi5 ... Saans, Astitva are among my top favorites too ... I did watch Hasratein for quite a long time and liked it, but for acting and characterization, Saans and Astitva were the best. Although I didn't watch either till the end ... didn't have SP in the places I was posted those days.:(
DeleteSurprisingly after Astitva, MJHT was another show I liked ... or rather, I loved Gunjan's character in it ... the main reason I watched that rather average show. And I became a fan of Sanaya's because of the way she played Gunjan ... had not really seen her earlier shows ... although I did remember her from Fanaa.
Dia,
DeleteI think I saw Saan pretty much till the end...altho it also moved along some predictable lines.I gave up Astitva dring the leap...and Hasretein...i watched briefly when it began but watched it more regularly when Shefali stepped into the role...this is one case, when the change in actor did the trick..obv Shefali is a much better actor than Seema Kapoor
I usually avoid ekta serials some exceptions are ofc there
i do remember catching up episodes of a serial which had Panchi Bora and Ahluwalia for a while, i have forgotten the gist of the story but somehow there was something about that pair...that was very riveting...bt since i did not follow it regularly i couldn't commit to it...
the other serial i watched for a while was an ekta one with Iqbal Khan....don't remember the name ...nothing in the narrative but IK's voice kept me hooked for quite a while..
Also liked for a while the Prerna-Bajaj romance ..no interest in the serial tho...
Then came a period....i watched nothing at all....work kept me busy and the last serial i think that i watced that had romantic overtones before IPK was one with Yami Gautam and Gaurav guy..that was a disaster after a 20-30 epis...and i gave up
In all the above cases, i have missed epis every once in a while...soemtimes missing weeks on end too....
but
then IPK happened....this is only serial that i have watched from start to end....not missed a single epi...altho i watched most of the earlier epis only in July 2011....
ReplyDeleteOpti, Dia,
I love the way ranvir calls the older chaiji, moti chaiji. His monologues are absolutely hug worthy. :-))))))
The timing is all wrong for me. I have to tape it and catch it the next day. :-(
Usha, I watch it the next day ... it airs too late for me, but the repeat is the next morning and afternoon. I think it's already getting popular - there are three repeats in the day. I manage to catch it at least on of them.
DeleteUsha,
ReplyDeleteRight now Veera is in the top of my favourites list. The show coming next in MB. It is trodding the pathi vratha pathni track right now (which is not my favourite) but I love RK's characterisation in the show. Vivian is doing an excellent job so far. QH is getting to be quite a damp squib. The trip, fall and catch scene they showed on friday was so pathetic. Gul should stop direction and go back to producing.
DeleteOpti,
I am seeing QH with absolutely no expectations and so am not disappointed. I like the presentation of 4 lions stories and the non made up actors and actresses. But I catch it altogether in the weekend and the see it on fast forward. Actually the ony person I fast forward is the father and his idiotic confused face stringing along two women. That personally I cannot bear. Otherwise I am the 0.000001% who actually likes the actress and I can't help but smile at her 'Allah miyah what's wrong with you'. And AYAAN cannot act to save his life but seems like a kid who is trying quite hard. And so it all looks like sme big comedy circus without the crudeness.
I too like Vivian in madhubala. I was such a fan of DD but suddenly her expressions seem lost. I can't stand deepali.
I am also seeing Junoon and liking it but with a fast forward button on my remote.
I am also seeing balika vadhu till it goes off the edge again.
I am going to again start seeing YRKKH and I will imagine khushi as akshara fr some time as what could have been. :-P
MB:
DeleteI have 2 favorite characters in the show: RK and Bittooojeeee.... I love this Secretary guy who is like a bro to RK.
What is going on in RK's head?
He knows that Madhu is in love with him. Why is he being mean to her hen? Or is it that he does not believe in KC and does not want Madhu to risk her health for a custom he does not believe in?
The character I am most irritated with is the mother actually. What is wrong with the woman? She has seen how Madhu literally brought the guy back to life- she is really dense. She must be the MB equivalent of blind Anjali?
DeleteSu,
Nothing to worry about. All mothers in serials have short term memory loss. They remember, then they forget, then they remember, and nobody can bet on what they remember. Normal people would die of shame for forgetting all the good things that were done for them and for forgetting so easily.
I watched a few episodes of MB and may i say i kind of like deepali more than madhu!! maybe because all she has done in the epis i saw was cry..but the vamp is good..
Deletei like Bittoojee best though!! i am very surprised with Vivian though..he is doing a good job!!
QH:
ReplyDeleteWhen I started watching this show, I was disappointed with Gul's direction.
How Asad and Zoya met- I thought there was so much of lack of creativity in that scene- Zoya walking on a maidaan (!) and Asad's car comes straight at her- there was not even a proper road there. There were a lot of hiccoughs in the initial episodes for me, plus the timing- I thought I should give the show a miss.
As recently as last week, Gul keeps irritating me with Zoya's behaviour- how she throws food stuff on the ground(!)- really, there are limits to stretching your imagination....
And Ayaan, the younger bro: ufff... grow up!
What keeps me hooked on to the show?
1. The leads- KSG is a good actor and the actress- Surbhi, I feel, is getting better.
There is no exemplary chemistry between the leads- but it is better than the chemistry on any other show airing right now.
2. Gul as a director...agreed, the trip and fall was laughable (I find most of the trips and falls laughable- even some of the RVs in IPK were so for me)- in fact was the only cringe-worthy element in the friday episode for me.
The symbolisms continue to surprise me-
a) The broken phone.
Asad breaks his phone in frustration- Zoya tapes it and returns it- Asad peels off the tape and delivers it to her in broken bits again(Message clear- you are not going to make anything right for me- I will not give you that power over me)- and Zoya patiently tapes it again and gifts it back to him with a note-'apka phone hai, aap hi rakhiye'...Typically Gul's heroine- she cannot stand anyone suffering on her account, irrespective of who was 'right'. Does this mean Zoya will not push their relationship beyond a limit? Aapki zindagi hai, aap hi sambhaliye?
b) This is the bit about Gul's direction that holds me in awe of her- the magic that is Gul and team :
After the meteor shower and the silly trip and catch, there is a night scene in their respective bedrooms.
Asad and Zoya are restless, they are wondering about their feelings and trying to convince selves that it is IMPOSSIBLE.
I loved the way the backgrounds were projected.
Right above Asad's bed, there is a painting - a scenery showing a cloudy sky- calm, but there is a storm brewing up. And Asad is seemingly calm- he does not agitate restlessly like Zoya- outwardly he seems composed and he thinks he is in control of himself- but within... unknown to him...
Contrast this with Zoya who is very fidgety, very much in keeping with her character, and what do you find above her bed? Shadows of twigs that are moving in the breeze- as restless as her- mirroring her state of emotions....
This is the beautiful bit about Gul that keeps me enchanted...
3) The characters are growing roots and the actors are getting more comfortable...I hope Gul remembers to nurture all the characters and not lose herself in the love story.
The very fact that Geet and IPK were conceived as love stories and QH as a family theme gives me hope.
Right now this is the bit that irritates me about QH: the fandom.
DeleteWhat does fandom do the moment a promo is aired showing Zoya leaving Asad's house?
Whining and pining already!
'Oh no! How can they do this?'??!!!
I hope Zee takes IPK and SP as a case study and learn to leave the story and twists to the creator.
Anyway, QH will never create the peak of frenzy that IPK created...thank God!
Any one watching BV?
DeleteThe wedding sequence is very aesthetically done.
Beautiful!
DeleteSu,
Me me me, I am loving seeing balika vadhu wedding sequences. :-)))
Su,
DeleteI commend your observations skills of the bedroom scene. I was so put off by the dreadful dialogue delivery of the leads (in this scene I could not stand KSG even), I could not look beyond that. Yes, the symbolism of the broken cell was not lost on me. It indicates that Zoya will always remain instrumental in opening up the communication path between the two families even if Azad is not interested in renewing old bonds.
I just watched the BV wedding sequences, and all I could think was the contrast between the grandeur here and the remarriage in IPKKND with ten and a half guests, and they too also left :)... the small single room as a wedding hall ... such a difference from the sheer opulence shown in BV with the million people, all dressed to the hilt in fabulous clothes and loaded with jewelry ... the entire ambience was so opulent and - well. garish, actually, but money had been spent on the sets and costumes - so obvious.
DeleteBut one thing in BV, I have to commend the acting ... the actors are all excellent ... though again here, Sanaya has spoiled me for other heroines, I found Anandi's dialogues exactly that - dialogues, while Sanaya's dialogues always felt so natural.
My take on QH... (copy paste from last post - nothing more to add)
ReplyDeleteI have finally figured out what is wrong with Gul Khan – she cant ADD!!!! – so the hero’s (Asad) parents got married 31 years ago – have been separated for 17 therefore were together for 14! He being the eldest, am assuming the hero is 30. His brother has completed college –assuming they are only referring to BA – he should be around 20/21 years. Therefore Asad’s Dad (AD) had both wives for a while – either he kept it hidden for a few years or both were ok with it – then why did he leave wife no 1? If both wives weren’t together, then how did the younger brother grow up holding on to elder brother? – unless there is some other background – GK is def not doing very good math!!
What I could not stand:
- Allah Miyan!!! What is wrong with this girl – she does not talk she shrieks!! And she is rude and careless and not at all respecting of the fact that someone has kept her as a guest – she throws food on the floor and is downright rude. You don’t have to fight with everyone to get your point across. Sorry Su – did not think she was intelligent - she is roaming around a city with an old burnt photo – does not have the brains to get the pic restored, enlarged and copied so that it tells her more – Does not have the brains to ask the right people, her hosts, the police, museums (she could come up with any excuse) but asks random people on the streets. She was sweet to notice dilshad was sad and baked a cake for her but left the kitchen in a mess for Dilshad to clean – that I found inexcusable!! (and I don’t compare her to KKG simply coz she is a bad actress and no way comparable to the SI. KKG would also stand up for others but never without finding out what the person had done wrong – here the heroine is helping the dad without even asking him why his wife is angry with him!)
- Don’t know why the father has been portrayed as a ‘bechar’ who is suffering and missing his family – he lives fairly happily for 17 years – was busy producing more kids and Now he is he is all “oh I made a mistake” and I have suffered for so long – apparently he did not even ask for his kids, provide for tehm for 17 years and now has the audacity to cheat wife no 2 – (and he is being assisted by the heroine) – the spineless two timing creep!!!
- And an uncle out of the movies – he enters – coughs and all women become erect and fidget with their dupattas!!
Positive:
- The scene about going to the lounge “Good to go to a new place but come back before 8:00” – have heard stuff like this before :D
- Very good characterization of the male leads – Elder brother – Loved his relationship with his mom – the way he talks to her their conversations, liked that despite his anger he let her decide if she wanted to meet her ex, says sorry only for her – also Love that the guy is a neatness freak !! yippee – might actually have some ‘clean sets’ till the end! – his flaw is that he is too stuck up on jeans (really?? Everyone wears jeans – short tight revealing tops, shorts are a problem – not jeans for sure!) - And i think he is becoming rudder by teh day to make the heroine look good!
Younger brother – very caring of the family, sisters but a bad bad actor! (how I wish Akash had such a clear cut role!)
- Grand sets (but am so jealous – why do they get this and IPK does not!)
- The mothers – one silly, sweet, simple and very attached to her kids the other – the perfect strong woman – don’t know the actor but wife no 2 (if she really is not that dumb) is doing a very good job – she and the hero are the only two bearable actors
- Diction better than I expected – no where near perfect – but better than I expected! - i guess i will have to live with kabool hai instead of Qubool hai! and kuda instead of KHuda!
Mona,
DeleteHugs...
I warned you off QH! (I also siad you should decide for yourself!)
LOL...at what is wrong with Gul...Madam is weak in two departments...Maths like you said, also, her memory goes on a lazy stroll once in a while...
Zoya is not even asking about the photo any more...she is happy playing the gadget guru...I bet very soon there wil be no reference to her past or the photo..going by Opti's observation.
You confused me with all your maths.
This is how I understood the story..don't know if it adds up.
The dad married Shireen as second wife while still being married to Dilshad.
I think the kids grew up together for some period... and then the dad was asked to choose between the two wives- and he had to choose dumb Shireen...sounds like there was some blackmail involved.
Any way, nothing justifies him leaving Dilshad...I'll be quite happy if Dilshad's wish of keeping Ahmed Khan out of her life comes true...this is one happy ending I can do without. Fine if she forgives him and all...let them stay in separate houses...let her stop pining for this undeserving guy. PLEEEJ... GulJEE...
heh heh.. the intelligent bit was where she locks his phone with the voice code...that was BRILLIANT! (Though I don't know if it is possible.)
DeleteAny way no shatir dimag on the poor hero here too- he could have inserted the sim on another phone, right? (It is too complicated for me, I am not a gadgets person. Bet BBE is an expert on this.)
Monu,
DeleteRofl on the math....in fact tat characteristic was on display in IPK too...sometimes i wonder if it was her math or the math of the viewers too? all those fans who raised a hue and cry on the many tracks.....hardly touched upon some aspects of math.....
If it was indeed Garima, who was the cause of confusion between Ratna and ASR's dad on that "day", it was never considered odd by ASR's shatir dimag to question what made Garima meet Arnav's father a few years into her marriage with Shashi...what was she doing that fateful day 14 years ago...did she meet him to give or take justifications for the deeds of years gone by.....what was it?
I thot they left a big gaping hole there....black hole of IPK....khair...ab faraq nahin padta....
DeleteMona,
I loved your Gul does not know how to add statement.
What she actually needs is a big whiteboard so that she does not forget what her left and right hand are writing.
And don't worry abut the sets. We will talk exactly 9 months down the line after this baby s born. We will see about the sets then and how many outdoors they do after a year? I have full faith in Gul.
"We will talk exactly 9 months down the line after this baby s born. We will see about the sets then and how many outdoors they do after a year? I have full faith in Gul." ROFL Usha............so true.........I feel sorry for 4 Lions...IPKKND is once in a lifetime experience, doubt if they will ever be able to recreate this kind of magic again.................retreading on the 9 month and I have lost interest in producing this serial, I have no doubt.........
DeleteUsha is absolutely right. This PH does not have big bucks to throw around. So if their new show comes up the existing one goes into shambles, both in the terms of their story line as also the grandeur of their sets. We went through it in Geet when Maan became bankrupt and lost his huge palatial house when Arnav landed in his chopper and later entered his house that has this magical pool which is in level with every floor in RM, not to mention is circular watch tower glass cabin at AR designs. We now see Azad's bathroom is bigger than Arnav's bedroom.
DeleteMona,
Fully with you in all your observations. I too can't stand the girl's screeches and she is too obnoxious to be lovable at this point - a far cry from Khushi who despite all her craziness was so lovable right from day one (at least to me). I too do not want wife no.1 to unite with spineless hubby at any point.
I think the maths may not be too off the mark at this point. The two families definitely lived together at some point. The fondness between the brothers is otherwise not explainable, especially when the families have stayed away from each other for 17 years. The girls from the two families are not that close may be because they were too small when they parted and do not have memories of the two families living together. I think biwi no.2's insecurities, together with her brother's financial clout separated the two families.
Opti, Su, Aki, Usha and Rekha -
DeleteSo i finally did solve the Gul weakness mystery :D:D:D
Exactly what i thought too - felt the kids did stay together for a bit - but then:
- what made the guy 'choose' one over the other?
- that his wife no.1 accepted wife no 2 and tried to live happily - yet the creep left her for 17 long years and without support - sorry cannot forgive or forget that!!
One last thing - i did understand when wife no 1 was getting all dressed up, for a few seconds i felt like she wanted to show her husband that she was able to stand tall (believe me if i ever meet my ex husband, i want it to be on a good hair day - for simple pride sake!!) - BUT the lady then went all whiny and missing her husband - that is just not possible - the lady would have to be as selfish as her husband to even think of missing him when she knows the pain her kids went through!!
And Opti - i loved KKG from scene 1 too!!
Exactly Mona. Somehow I cant' take these stories which justify a man's straying or being disloyal to his wife. I have a feeling that Biwi No.2 was getting jealous of hubby's affections for Biwi No.1. She may have had some mental imbalance problem and her rich bro stepped up for her by luring the spineless hubby into becoming his business partner in exchange for quitting his first family. Maybe the spinelss guy was in some financial problem and was forced to accept this option (which is still unforgiveable considering the eldest boy was just around 13 years which his father bailed out on him). No wonder the guy is bitter about his dad and as you said the mom should be sensitive to her children's feelings rather than the other way about as it currently is. I can well see this going the way of happy families in the end with the spineless guy getting to have his cake and eat it too (translated as Biwi No.1 for love and Biwi No.2 for money).
DeleteMona, Opti,
DeleteAs much as I want justice for the wronged woman...this is one thing I learned about Gul's women from Khushi- they are very forgiving. Their motto is 'To err is human, to forgive is divine'. I expect no different from Zoya or Humeiraa or Dilshad...
ROFL ... am loving your comments on Gul and her maths skills! And Usha's 'full faith in Gul' :D
DeleteROFL :D
DeleteI love all the snarky comments here - from Usha's "faith", to Monu's math and Su's "forgive is divine" :))
Dang the new male lead has a huge bathroom. What happened to Arnav's yaar? And that rain sequence..:S
I wonder if they call themselves creative consultants and are short cashed why do they not find rich producers who will fund like 60 - 70 % of their shows. Why try and fund it themselves? Or is it bcos producer + creative = more clout for telling story in thoery.
Su,
small details - sigh yes they are so enticing once you know to look for them. Perhaps why other serials feel rather empty.
Sandy,
Delete'yes they are so enticing once you know to look for them. Perhaps why other serials feel rather empty.':
HUGGGSSS, Sandy.
I learned this from you.THANK YOU!
And I wish one of you'd watch it and give me the symbolisms. I bet I am missing out on a lot by myself.
I had a thought on the PH's funds...
especially after I watched Farm house scene and compared it with the candle scene from PV. There is a world of a difference, apart from Sarun! And when farmhouse aired we were complaining about the PH's kanjoosi in converting RM to farmhouse!
Do these guys spend a LOT on the crew compared to the rest of the PHs. Their product has 10 times more finesse than the other serials. I bet their creative team gets paid quite high, and they cut down on things like costumes. May be Gul does not believe, 'clothes maketh a man'?
su, today i was browsing through serials.. and noticed that everything on SP is on a grand scale. gopi's house, adi's house, sooraj, ranvijay, (who else? ) and then compare it to IPK.. forget comparing it to MB or BV or PV..
Deletein the beginning, everything was indeed grand.. right up until the first wedding. then as the story focused on the leads, (maybe the director was focused on other matters, the actors/CT/PT got a pay hike after SPA.. whatever.. ) the extra glamor began to fall off.
even if gul does not believe in external appearances, she is a dreamweaver.. she HAS to know that packaging is 50%.
seeing KSG on the same bike that barun n sanaya rode (in one offscreen shot) brings my heart to dhak dhak again. at least i'm watching QH to meet some of the old props.. i'm waiting to see if the radheshyam statue will appear one day, regardless of the fact that it is a muslim story!
Aww Su,
DeleteThanks! Hope you find someone soon to figure out the symbolisms. Opti seems to be watching.
I was just reading the synopsis posted below and how much more copycat can it be - temporary marriage dissolved and then hero falls in love. So is the next show going to be on Sony or Colours with a new religion and leads who are not so known again and will work cheap?
Disagreement or not I think it has been a good move not to have the same creative team at the back for new show. It would lead to too many similarities. The trip fall catch and staring got severe censure in a recent TT article :)
Nahi Su, they spend a lot in the setup phase - they go all out. IPK epis show that. Once it is established and tehy have a captive audience they just chill out and start thinking of multiplying the money elsewhere. But yes the creative team on IPK had a lot of thought invested at most times. But that is it, it was a team thing of which the PH was a part.
Maybe i am biased but i realized that though ODG had multicolored long anarkalis with huge velvet borders that i hated - but to be fair - these are apparently the 'in' thing - just saw a pic of an awards function and all indian actresses were wearing these gowns confused as suits
DeleteSu, regarding the financing, I really don't understand the penny pinching of Gul and 4lions ... today I was free and sat through two episodes of BV, and one of MB ... haven't tried QH yet ... and the difference in the sets, costumes etc is so huge. SP is supposed to be the biggest channel, IPK was being aired five times a day, which means the PH probably got paid for each airing (don't know how it works so I could be wrong there), and still they didn't have money for costumes, sets and extras?
DeleteThey seemed to spend up till the Payash wedding ... even the Holi episodes they had a new set and lots of extras, I feel after the kidnapping they totally went downhill.
As Jaya pointed out, all the other shows on SP have grand sets ... PKDH, Behna, Gopi ... Yeh Rishta has two or three grand sets - Akshara's maayka and sasural, and in the middle, they shifted to a smaller house, they also showed Rashmi's house ... they never seemed to lack for funds. Why is 4lions the only one so stingy about spending on sets and supporting cast? PKDH is Rajshri, so expected, plus it's new ... YR and Gopi have been going on for 2-3 years, how come they have kept their standards the same? This 4lions is really useless!!!
Dia,
DeleteSetting aside in your face and garishness, I agree IPK was the least stressful in terms of opulence. In BV given that they are zamindars the grandly decrated "haveli" does give that impression. Aur yahaan biz tycoom woh bhi fashion industry main sooo boring !!
And I saw in YRKKH has new costumes and everyone seems to have undergone a new makeover post this generation leap.
Su,
Arjun would have been a costly affair for PH. New locations every time, lot of outdoor shoots. Unlike serials where it all happes on one or more sets Arjun would have needed higher investments.
Mona, you mentioned khushi's anarkalis.. now i offer you, khuhsi's saree http://bit.ly/VlucA5
Deletesomehow i think that there was a manish malhotra fan who was buying khushi's clothes..
http://bit.ly/YQWpoS
http://bit.ly/ecr98x
(i'm using bitly for the first time.. tell me if you can see the pics?)
I tried watching QH - lasted all of 5 minutes! The show is pathetic, especially the girl's dialogues AND her delivery - as bad as Arjun.. :((...Enjoying Veera for the kids.....I have learnt my lesson, so will take the enjoyment quotient for as long as it lasts..... :)
ReplyDeleteaki, LOVED the one-liner review.. true, watching sarun literally live the lives of arnav and khushi (the way their faces, their eyes showed honest emotion as their characters..) it is difficult for me to tolerate mediocre actors now.
Deletesidenote.. i have to applaud barun, he used to turn 'arnav' off and on at the drop of a hat(i'm seeing the offscreen footage)
QH is fantastically irritating at times because the screenplay is terribly immature. it is only the actors, i feel, that salvage some situations.
for everyone lamenting and hating the two timing double husband.. he had forsaken his first wife at his second wife's request.. i cannot sit through to rewatch past episodes, but from what i saw, ayaan tracked out asad and bonded with him.. and it was only after asad got injured saving ayaan from some wreck , and ayaan asked his dad to go and thank asad.. but he has promised shireen that he would never contact dilshad again, and was happily living out his promise, when suddenly he has second thoughts. the guy who had no contact with her for 17 years is suddenly sending anniversary gifts every year.. calling her up, making song dedications on radio.. yeah... i think gul hit herself upside on the head recently.. or she is still reeling from the SP talks and forgot her "baby".
well, i never expected another IPK quality, so (like shwetha mentioned) i am enjoying an unintentionally hilarious comedy.
and for the record, i rather like screecher.
but find KSG overrated. I'm enjoying watching all the pretty clothes.. and speaking of clothes, the BV wedding is a dream! (a rather long dragging dream, but beautiful nonetheless. )
veera.. as soon as the lady turned grey, i clicked off.. sorry.
MB.. these days i have a sneaking suspicion that MB is falling for bittuji. or is that vice versa?
Jaya, lady is not grey, she's very real ... Ratan, you mean, I guess? Try her again :)))
Delete'the guy who had no contact with her for 17 years is suddenly sending anniversary gifts every year..'
DeleteLOL. And very conveniently he says that he has been buying the gifts on THE LIST every year, this is the first time he gathered courage to actually send it to her. Give me a break, Gul, right from 'THE LIST'!
Sigh...
My point is,WHO gets to make a list like this in real life?
May be I am taken over by the green monster?
On QH , Gul Mata is trying very hard to recreate the magic she had created for IPK. The conversation under the stars last Friday was a clear indication of that. But to be very honest , it fell completely flat on it's face for me. KSG is okay to good, but Allah Mia , I can't stand the girl. She can't act for God's sake. Her diction is pretty bad , please pay attention to the way she says the words 'Jaate' , 'Chalte' etc. It is driving me up the wall.
DeleteWhat did Gul see in her ?
Jaya, Even I can't stand these kind of spineless men which is why your comment had me in stitches:"when suddenly he has second thoughts. the guy who had no contact with her for 17 years is suddenly sending anniversary gifts every year.. calling her up, making song dedications on radio.. yeah... i think gul hit herself upside on the head recently.. or she is still reeling from the SP talks and forgot her "baby".". Except, the unfortunate truth is that I have come across men who actually have done the same.......they hit a certain age and suddenly decide they want to atone for their "sins" - so off they go to manao their first wife (must be a male menopause effect, if there is such a thing, ever)...bleeehhhhhh......heard of a real life incident wherein the first wife went on to become very good friends with the second, to the extent both would take their respective kids for shopping expeditions, etc. When the husband tried to make up with the first wife, they both booted him out..........it was hilarious to hear!!!!

DeleteSu,
I too am green with envy. I too would like the list. I will pass it on to my husband. And I don't think I can ever win a mrs. India in this janam because my husband does not know my favourite colour and other favourite things. The only thing he does know was that from 8 to 8.30 I maniacally watched ipkknd and nothing in the world would move me. And before that I watched a mr. Maan whom he used to call your mr. Maan, has he got back his memory. It became a joke. Every night after coming back home, his first question would be, has your mr. Maan got back his memory.
He asked me, now that mr. Jerk has gone off air, now what are you going to see? He he he he he
usha, hi5! my husband and my favorite color.. heck, i dont know HIS favorite color.. not gonna win any Mrs india competitions anytime soon :D (i dont understand how you can have a favorite color.. maybe a favorite flower, or a favorite pair of jeans.. but color? really? maybe i'm wired differently) i could never understand why arnav loved red..
Deletedoes any of you have a favorite color? can you explain why?
I don't think I have a favorite colour, so I'd be at a loss if I was asked about my fav colour.
DeleteThere is this one thing about me, though. Everytime I go shopping, I am automatically drawn to all shades of green- everytime hubby has to remind me I have the exact shade...(LOL- he says that about every colour, I think.).
So, if my hubby is asked my fav colour, will he say 'green'? Is that my fav colour? Sochnewaali baat hai!
su, i cannot believe you gravitate towards green too.. this year, a relative gifted me a salwar set.. and commented.. "when i saw the green, tum yaad aa gayi" I have a strong partiality to green hues in clothes, but i dont think green is my favorite color! and btw after one year of unconsciously buying only green stuff , (and finally buying two sets in almost the same shade,) i have put a self-ban on green :D
DeleteOMG girls,
DeleteI am loving this dialogue here. Btw why are all of you watching QH when all I see are mostly dandas?? *conphussed*
J - Hit to the head and reeling from talks - LOL!
Aki - Male menopause - ROFL!!
Usha - As for the green monster well well well Usha maybe your hubby is bitten by one. You obsess with ur mr. maan and mr.jerk without moving ;)
I shall never bother with a list for my hubby in all probability will first lose it and then come and tell me to rewrite it. So I just ask him for the cash and go on retail therapy myself and come back and show him what "he got me". But to his credit he has surprised me without lists as far as gifting dresses is concerned.
J,
DeleteHi5! same here...if anyone asks me my fav colour, i would never say green but i always end up choosing the green hues...dunno why?
I know..i can never answer the favorite color question!! i seem to like different colors for different things..clothes i tend to lean towards red hues but i would not say i LOVE red!! i actually detest red nail polish..maybe its just with clothes...
DeleteThough i have a friend who is grey obsessed..i think everything she owns is grey!! guess some people can love just one color!! :)
DeleteHi5 to all the green lovers. I too have put a self ban on green. i too am an unconscious green lover.
I am very specific, but not restricted to one favorite color! I love onion pink, rust, and turquoise blue-green ... I have to stop myself buying those colors because I have too many clothes in those 2-3 shades!
DeleteBut my husband would buy me blue ... because that's HIS favorite color!!! :))) Come to think of it, I don't think he could name mine ... but I think he would buy me the right colors automatically!
DeleteThis is a man who, after I have a haircut and ask him how it looks, says he can't remember what I looked like before! *head desk* :D
Dia :)
DeleteI know how that head desk feels. Been there. But yeah I trust mine to choose right for me tho he would be epic fail to name specifics.
Okay, after all the comments here I sat through one episode of QH ... half of it :))) Zoya can't do the fighting AT ALL ... she sounds shrieky and loud ... and RUDE! And the way she gets on that sofa to yell - who does that in someone else's house?!
DeleteHer scene with Asad's mom was better ... she acted well and her eyes are pretty.
Few questions ... why has Rashid woken up after 17 years and started missing his first wife?
How come Zoya misses her mom? She was just 3 when she died. She misses the idea of a mom, she can't remember her mom to miss her!
Why is Asad such a stuffed shirt? In terms of physique ... KSG has become too beefy for words! And I wasn't very impressed with his acting either - I was just watching some old IPK scenes and after watching this, I was SO GLAD he didn't do IPK ... Barun was 1000 times better!
And there is absolutely NO chemistry between Asad and Zoya - I liked the Zoya-Dilshad scene much better than the Zoya-Asad one.
End of critique :))) Not really intrigued by the story enough to keep watching. I think IPK has spoiled me for love stories for some time ... I just don't see the chemistry in any couple these days. Am far happier watching Veera.
exactly dia, i just dont love in their eyes and that turns me off!!! (i mean, every couple i see onscreen these days... thats what i meant that IPK ruined love stories for me!)
Deletehe he you wanna know where i saw chemistry? between bittoji and madhubala. that guy is turning into her deewana by the way his acting goes. i think it does not say that anywhere in the story, but every next moment i expect it to turn into an 'unrequited love' story :D
to be honest, i dont like KSG. his acting is not upto par, sometimes his dialogues seem like rehearsal... the director is not good at all. (that was one of the plus points of vintage IPK.. one thing that stuck to me after the barun-gul interview was him talking about the dori-breaking scene.. they had to do more than one day's shooting, just to can that one shot 'perfect'.. and it showed in the end product. )
i like surbhi(zoya)'s acting.. yes, she is loud and rude, but that is how zoya is supposed to be..loud, rude, messy, and confident about it.. the actress does not look like she is acting, and that is VERY GOOD acting in my books. yes, the initial days were stilted.. but now, seems like one of the leads has settled into the character properly.
Su, Dia, J,
DeleteAll 4 lions heroines seem to have big pretty eyes. Nahi toh close up shots ka impact kaise hogaa.
Su the girl would have shown potential to act if groomed and once settled. Besides Shwethu's fav Arshad Khan is there on the show too. Plus she is an unknown face in the Hindi telly industry hence a 'lower costing' actor.
With Dia on KSG. I have thought he is just a good face and he speaks funny too. Too beefed up and shallow as as actor esp now that I have seen IPK :P
I actually like the actress playing Dilshad. She has done a variety of roles and is quite good.
SN: First it was Mahiii and then Rabba Veyyy what will it be this time? Guesses?
i just realized that there was a typo in my first sentence..( exactly dia, i just dont SEE love in their eyes and that turns me off!!)and i meant that about every couple i see on screen these days.. romance does not seem like romance anymore..
Deletesandy, dilshad is good.. the actress seems like someone who can take on a heavy role. i am wondering where on earth they found the actress who plays shireen.( oops spoke too soon.. she is shabnam zayed, googled her and got more than i bargained for. okay. )
from the way the story is going, i think the CT are overplaying the asad-zoya story just for the romance-crave audience, but since they have no chemistry at all, the idea is falling flat.
it will be a ayan-zoya relationship that we will get.. but i second su,, zoya is emotionally far more mature than ayan, she is more asad's wavelength.. like we saw khushi having eyelocks with arnav but eventually getting ready to marry shyam,
Just wanted to add ... the main lady in the orphanage, Amandeep, is from Maryada, Vidya's mother - if anyone watched the show. The director of Veera is the Maryada director ... the quality of direction shows.
ReplyDelete
DeleteI loved maryada and was more or less a loyal trp giver except for a short period when I was very angry with the aditya and his wood-head. I used to love gaurav-vidya as well. Very well made. And sigh, very very late, 11.30 pm n weekdays was a pain.
Veera is really crisp.
D,
DeleteOn my dekha hai toh dekho mode, saw the girl who played Vidya in some Zee serial - typical TV bahu roop main garish makeup and lipstick to boot.
She used to be so awesome as the character Vidya.
Oh and onthe same spree spotted Gia Manek in this really funny roop as a "genie". Total chatterbox and hey DM again kya nightmarish makeup.
i say giaa is gar better as a genie than as gopi... at least now her voice suits the role!
DeleteI loved the Gaurav-Vidya track and how they played it. Gaurav was such a gentleman ... no wonder his wife loved him!
DeleteYep, Sandy, I saw her too ... total *head desk* moment! Just shows good roles are not easily found on tv - they're all pretty much indistinguishable from each other. No wonder Sanaya wanted to continue with Khushi!
J - ROFL yes she does have a shrill voice.
DeleteDia - Gaurav and Vidya to me would have been the true hero heroine of the story cos they tread the path unknown - spoke to the people who respect traditions, family and scoiety yet found the spine to live life on their terms.
there was always one character who was forging a lfie while others filled in for the sati savitri role. Yahaan toh sab kuch Khushi thi.
I've been wondering, the story was never supposed to highlight ASR as much as it managed to. It was supposed to be Khushi's story, her journey of hate and love. But Khushi's character somehow got shadowed.
Khushi was imp hence they picked Sanaya who had found good success in her earlier serial and was a betetr known face than BS. Many confess to have started watching the show for her.
Sandy,
DeleteThe premise being ASR could also have envisaged a wonderful role for Khushi...A complex/flawed man falling for a woman...That woman had to be highlighted in the story in a significant manner...not in the SP designated manner of "yahan toh sab kuch Khushi thi", kuch bhi ho sara pagalpan isi ke sar dhaal do..
Khushi even tho not the sutradhar was central to Arnav's story...they should have let the narrative flow of peeling layers of that character...(ofc not in the way they did which made Khushi unrecognisable with every passing day that we were forced to justify her actions based on our love for the serial)
Again, i say it is to San's credit that Khushi looked like a heroine despite all that harakiri..Khushi was neither SP heroine nor Gul's heroine in the final analysis...she was somewhere in the middle...and we found our individual reasons to like her in each track
IPK was the story of a man and his sister, and how a girl changes their lives. So all three characters were central ...
DeleteASR was the one Gul concentrated on, so his characterization was the best for the longest time, Anjali and Khushi were butchered when required, to maintain Arnav. It was more ASR's journey, the change from ASR to Arnav ... Khushi being the catalyst, so the changing Arnav as seen through Khushi's eyes.
It should also have shown a changing Anjali, again brought about by Khushi ... this was hinted at through the scene when Khushi does Anjali's massage and tells her to open her eyes. Cv's messed that journey completely by messing up Anjali. Or maybe Daljeet was upset at turning even slightly grey and the audience reaction to that. By then, the Arshi jodi had become iconic, so anyone who even tried to break them up was subject to the fury of the fandom. So the cv's also backed off, and as a result Anjali's reactions were watered down, and her story meandered into just blind faith in her husband, which destroyed her character and made her brainless. I always felt that some resentment towards Khushi was very natural on Anjali's part ... after all, her husband had fallen for Khushi, Anjali would have to be the ultimate SP devi to forgive Khushi completely for that, regardless of her Chotey's feelings.
Khushi's story - I don't think it was ever part of the main story. For a long time, the writers hadn't even written Khushi's realization. The kidnapping track gave them the opportunity to bring that in. The next part of her journey would have been KKGSR to Mrs KASR ... but again, the cv's never gave Khushi's journey much importance. With Barun leaving, they finally thought of showing that, but much too late - the show shut down, so that got shelved. That could have been done during Barun's notice period, ending in an accident for ASR, leaving Khushi ready just in time to take up the reins of both AR and the Raizada family. But cv's never gave Khushi that much importance - she was just supposed to be the sutradhar, as Rekha termed it. That's what made the story lopsided many a time - because Khushi, the character, although central to the bro-sis story, was never given her own story or her own journey. And I agree with Rekha, the fact that Khushi's character seemed to be so strong was more credit to Sanaya's acting than the script, especially in the second half of the show. In the first half, they kept her strong ... in the second half, they lost their way completely. Khushi's character changed every day to showcase Arnav - just one example - the complete 180 of Khushi's feelings towards firecrackers between the first Diwali and the second.
Rekha / Dia,
DeleteKhushi being sutradhaar and Khushi being central to the story as the main catalyst in Arnav's and Anjali's lives I agree. And I also agree that SI breathed life into Khushi and kept her going even in the most whacko portions.
Dia, funny you said initially it was the ASR becoming Arnav in Khushi's eyes. To me the whole story uptil the point of Dadi's entry was how ASR / Arnav perceived Khushi as time progressed. And hence as his perception of her changed, his reactions to her too - they became soft or they were blunt as always.
A turning point happened every time Khushi broke down, every time she lost the strength that kept her going - first being Diwali when her dil was crushed, next being the forced wedding when her vishwaas was crushed and the next would have been the around the wedding with Dadi when her maternal family would have been crushed. This last they massively botched up.
But after every breaking point there was something that still gave Khushi the strength to go on and that was the unkahi, unsuni, unjaana ehsaas of pyaar. An ehsaas which sh could not put a name too yet it tugged her and made her want to return to Arnav - hum aapse door kyun nahi reh paate and kaash hum aapse nafrat kar paate. That monologue during kidnap was about nafrat ka bandhan and at the end it was the pyaar that she spoke of.
But the fiery Khushi who wanted to get to the bottom of the truth was diluted. This curiosity was not well balanced with the child in her who wanted to torment Arnav in her own way.
Reason given was IPL time so no story movement as anyways TRPs will be low. After this they should have planned for the time when Arnav would not be around as BS movie thing would have come to be known by Mar but they did not wake up till the nth hour and by then in the Swami and other tracks people had gotten too used to seeing only ArHi on screen and when they were not they protested. And CVs listening to the online audience - *sigh* yaar is team ke dimaag kahaan hain? I mean post Holi Shyam's fishiness, Nani being soft to Khushi yet stern to Arnav, Arnav Anjali scenes, Khushi Payal scenes all went for a toss. They could have even built in a Arnav Akash scene but nahi they had forgotten it was a serial with multiple cast and characters.
cont.
DeleteThey never clarified why Arnav became ASR properly. It was not justified enough. A mother is a vital part of anyone's life and undermining that mother figure - one who left her child and another who adopted a child not her own - not emphasizing it clearly would have caused people to wonder what made Arnav and Khushi. It was the presence of parents that made Khushi what she was.
Khushi becoming Mrs. ASR I did not even envisage coming up so soon as there was so much more to lay to rest before that at a normal pace. I mean we had all said until she is completely secure and sure in his love and her position in his house, her insecurity concerns in life will persist.
Anjali of post marriage was accepted then why was not Anjali post kidnap? The character balance was missing. She was still a caring sister so it should have started with hurt and not direct anger at being seemingly ignored. Arrey I would have loved a Anjali Khushi dialogue here wherein she had said, given how imp marriage was to both of them and how Khushi had felt when Arnav had gone away, how can she expect Anjali to feel any different. And they should have strted to give glimpses of why Anjali had esteem for a man - a man whohad married a handicapped woman, who had showered her love when she had been so vanchit before and so on.
In every story unless certain things are done in a timely manner then the tale just reduced to being a narration as clinical as an experiemtn don't you think?
The tracks including kidnap had potential but they did not sit down and chalk a path wherein there were milestones and anniversary dates to be met, and played around these for when the actors were available. Also this was the period their BDs were very visible almost as if the director wanted us to keep remembering the lead was not around while it should have been otherwise. BD's were used even in the when Khushi came to get slaary from Arnav for babuji in hospital but on first watch you may not catch it. They simply used a readymade excuse and did not rise above the challenge to make the story the champion.
Sandy,
DeleteBeautiful post....Hugs
today, they showed the bachelor party episode on star utsav.
ReplyDeleteand it seems, episode 1 has aired on star UK. (sigh) missing my daily fix.. :(
J,
Deletewhat time is the uk epi.....i did not even realise that they were airing it here? anyways i don't think i should stray anywhere close to that!!
half past two did feel a bit strange...more that that the fact that there was nothing to discuss animatedly now....*sigh* indeed!!
anita and everyone who likesd FFs, dont miss out on 'unexpectedly expected', it is a laughterfest of a silly story.. but it is addictive, and finally completed.. go read!

For the want of better things to do.
ReplyDeletePlease don't take this as a QH promotion. I am simply writing down things I felt about telly yesterday.
QH:
"sab kismet ka luck hai,
Iss mein kya shaq hai"- opening lines of the episode...sigh...I like Shireen and her monotonous diction...how I miss Manorama Mami!
Haseena Bee drops the bomb! Mentions Asad Ahmed Khan - and she is the one blessed with the shatir dimag.(Lekin bill toh credit card se diya tha na, usmein kaise galti ho sakti hai?)
The question and the issue is cleverly diverted by another shatir dimag. (Aaj shatir dimag ka shower hain. Someone must have made these wishes on the meteor shower instead of wishing for stupid things like finding love and regaining lost love.)
And Ayan has clearly improved as an actor. Even if the character is still too childish for me.(What did I expect from a combination of Rashid's and Shireen's genes?)
Zoya in conversation with her BIL- not BAD! Utilisation of cast- GUL has learned a lesson- let us see if her short memory allows her to retain this important lesson.
And Zoya has not lost sight of her maksad...her sis has dug up some useful(?) photos.
(Looks like Gul took up that suggestion on the white board.)
"Hum apne bete ki rishta aise ghar mein nahi karenge na, jis ladki ke baap ka do do ghar hai"- Nikhat is a dark complexioned girl and the family is struggling to find a good groom for her.
ROFL moment: Asad knocks on Zoya's door - no reply - he enters cautiously- "Kahan hain Ms. New YOrk?"
He walks out, Zoya comes in from the bathroom and and finds the tootha hua phone with a note: 'Aap ki wajeh sai thora, ab aap hi rakhiye'.ROFL at Zoya's expression and at this cat and mouse game with a difference. Who is the cat and who is the mouse?
Some one else had an expression yesterday for the first time- Shireen!
Questionijng her son- "Tum asad se milte ho'- insecurity? guilt?
Asad and tamatar- BEAUTIFUL!
"Tum sabko batati hai tumhara weight 50 kgs hai.Tumhara asli wt sirf mujhe pata hai.
Yeh baat kyun chipayee? Aayinda mat chipana.Tumhare baal itne bhi bure nahi lag raha hai. Phir se mat kaatna."
Tamatar decides to push her luck- "Bhai jaan, mujhe yehi length pasand hai. Main phir se baal lambi nahi karna chahti."
"THEEK HAI"- and Tamatar is overjoyed at her luck!
Zoya and Rashid: I don't like this dost bonding. Does not seem natural- nothing to do with the actors- just seems like an unlikely pair.
PV: I watched this after a long time.
Gurmeet is looking and acting better now that he is about to confess his love. He TRUSTS Aartiji- translation- he is not going to take too kindly to the revelation of a still very much alive ex- husband.
MB: Drashti is the ultimate soap queen. She is just made to cry. I am not being sarcastic, I really feel she is more comfortable crying. Her expressions are fantastic in such scenes. I should not have said that I like Bittuji- they killed the character for me yesterday. (Sigh...Where is Shwetha?)
Looking forward to today's episode: will he come? (As if that is a kosten!)
BV: I like the portrayal of the hero's sister- a jealous SIL who feels her brother deserved better. The whole 'mocking SIL act': very subtly and clearly done...a sister who believes her brother was trapped...it was supposed to leave a distaste and it did.
PKDH: Steady, but SLOOOOW...
Su,
DeleteI laughed through teh first part of your post. That line abotu keeping rishta with someone having 2 ghar - dhamaakedaar dialogue for ulta decode :))
MB - hey I liked Bittuji whenever I saw him. I thot teh actor did the effimate yet stern chief of staff well. Kya hua?
No offense (to Opti) but teh very little I have seen of Geet, sorry to say I invariable saw a sign of DD being made to cry. But she does have lovely huge eyes!
Sandy,
DeleteOn Bittuji- That was the case for me until I watched yesterday's episode: He had a bit of a showdown with RK over bhaabhiji- totally out of character and the actor seemed uncomfortable at the stereotyped turn his role took!
Out of character, because a few weeks back we saw RK convincing him not to talk badi baat with his chhoti munh when it comes to 'biwi'- meaning he trusted Madhu and that should be enough for Bittuji too.
Sigh all non -4 lions PH s are so lucky there is no one to scream character ka satyanaash.
ROFL...at your ulta decode!
Delete
DeleteSu,
"Zoya in conversation with her BIL- not BAD! Utilisation of cast- GUL has learned a lesson- let us see if her short memory allows her to retain this important lesson."
This is not even a month from the date of telecast, Su.
Imagine IPKKND and it usage of cast within a month or even six months of telecast.
As I said, I have full trust in Gul :-)))))
And dont you worry about screaming satyanash. Madhubala forum is the 2nd after IPKKND forum on IF because i am sure it is full of DD fans aka Geet fans and they will not disappoint in screaming satyanash. :-))))
And I too like Bittooji. Though hated him passionately in a Zee tv serial i saw where he was the villian, 12/24 Karol Bagh :-)))
Usha,
DeleteMB fans would have screamed satyanash by now if 4 lions had made the show.
A lot of the Geet fans (and now IPK fans too) are very gracious and accommodating so long as they don't see 4 lions on the credit- just my observation.
What I meant by utilisation of cast is that Gul remembered to include an absentee actor's character a part of the convo- a good way to keep the character alive- something she learned very late with PAYASH- only in the last month of IPK.
Or hey, did she just learn a short cut to avoid paying the actor and hiring them to the bare minimum needed? WT!
DeleteSu,
what an idea!!!
I get now what you are saying. Yes, now that you mention it, in the last month mamaji, akash, payal, everybody was mentioned in one way or another. When they were there, they were invisible. Khushi ji even mentioned jiji and jijaji in her what i will do in the last 24 hours speech.
You guys are determined I watch MB and QH, aren't you?! :)))
DeleteSpeaking of MB, where is Shwethu with her post?
DeleteI feel i can watch MB only alongwith her update...
Rekha,
DeleteShwethu mentioned exams for the kids I think. Btw when I do watch MB it is more with a arrey had apne Arnav Khushi doen this kitna mazaa aata :P
GH is the screenplay editor there too isn't he?
LOL.
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone watch this saubhagyavati show on life OK?
What the hell is going on?
HEART TRANSPLANT! What a wonderful way to handle actor exit!
Jhanvi's heart has been transplanted on Ananya ...so Viraaj can stalk a new face now?
What happened to the other characters? Forgot to check if this was EK show.
ROFL ROFL - really did not think IPK would start sounding logical!!
Deletebut seriously compared to the trash out there in general - IPK was a classic despite its flaws!
The actress playing Jahnvi left, so did the actor playing her love interest (not her husband). Read that on TB.
DeleteHEART TRANSPLANT? ROFL!!!!
ReplyDeleteOkay, here is the story synopsis i found of Qubool hai on the Zee tv website. How much is true i wonder and i feel the writer has confused the names of Ayaan and Asad in some places. But wont Ayaan look too young for Zoya????
Anyway just sharing. Dia, I hope it is okay to share here.
Qubool Hain is a Muslim Social Drama in the “Rom Com” zone.
It is the story of two families related by blood and yet distanced by circumstances. It is the story of two brothers Ayaan and Asad who are separated by their families but are united in their hearts.
It is also the story of Zoya, a girl who starts by hating the culture of hypocrisy in joint families and eventually ends up bringing together the two warring families.
The journey of the Khan family is seen through the eyes of our three protagonists…Zoya the young, spunky and progressive NRI, Ayaan the charming boy who falls for every beautiful face and Asad the man with the angst who eventually learns to love.
The show begins at the point where Zoya runs away from a marriage that was being forced on her and a twist of fate makes her get married to Ayaan instead.
Zoya enters the traditional, orthodox home of Ayaan…just the kind of family she distrusts and questions.
She is a total misfit in the conservative home that is run by the super orthodox doyen of the family. And as is to be expected it leads to immediate disaster.
A lot of squabbles ensue, especially between Ayaan and Zoya… and neither realize when they end up falling in love.
In the meanwhile, Asad is engaged to a very traditional conservative girl. Asad though not quite in love with her, respects her immensely for her devout ways and is beginning to see a life with her.
However, like fate usually does, things take a turn. Ayaan's temporary marriage to Zoya gets dissolved and Zoya finds out that Ayaan was responsible for it.
And here, Asad finds out that his pious to be bride is a complete liar and was taking him for a ride all along.
And now begins the next chapter of the story…. with Ayaan wanting to win back Zoya with whom he has totally fallen in love with and Asad vowing to never ever love again.
Ayaan realizes that the only way he can win back Zoya is with the help of Asad. But Asad hates women and more so women like Zoya. So what will unfold now between the two brothers and Zoya?
ROFL now what is there to see?
Deleteand yes, ayaan is already fallen in love with his 'imaginary' zoya... so i guess in another month, that marriage will happen.. does that mean i dont have to watch it to know the story anymore until after at least 6 months? hmm. sochega padi.
J,
DeleteI guess it means that the story actally takes off in the last line when they both are in love with the woman.....
My sense is with this synopsis Gul has put her lessons from IPK on the table...
If ask me IPK made one mistake and that was not indicating the point of conflict in the story upfront...it was cloaked in language that people thot that once Arnav fell in love with Khushi, no conflict could come up to threaten it...
DeleteJaya, rekha,
i too think the same. she has put up upfront all the permutations combinations possible so that nobody says this is not what we signed up for. :-))))
And since it is Zee TV, absolutely anything is possible.
So Gul can have a really free rein.
They dont even trip the serial on the basis of trp's.
well, as the show ended, we see that once arnav did indeed fall in love with khushi, even the BFTP did not matter to him.. so the ppl were right?
Deleteyeah put tat way...yes..i guess so...its a writer's perspective...if a writer says and everyone has understood it it i can't dispute it right?
Deletewhich is why i agreed that the story had run its course after the remarriage.....if the BFTP couldn't shake him, what khet ki radish will be anything that follows?
Deletedont know where this coming from -
Deletethe story so far does not say anything of the kind- Zoya so far has expressed no dislike for joint families (hypocrisy to abhi agenda main nahi dikh raha)
Ayaan has not even met Zoya (and he is way too young for her!) and Asad and Zoya have had the trip adn fall thing - so dont see Zoya marrying Ayaan
But then this is a hindi serial - anything can happen!
And just for the record - if the story is about 'dispelling' myths about muslims - really want to know how they plan to do that with (1)constant mazaar references (which is NOT an islamic thing but a cultural one)
(2) 'temp marriage' - what do they mean by that??? if they go the nikha story way (the worst movie ever made!) - will bang my head against a brick wall!!!!
Mona,
DeleteI have not seen a frame of QH but even i had read that she will marry both the elder and younger bro...at some point in time in the story...maybe different points in time ( my info purely on the basis of some write up)
i will not venture into commenting on other aspects tho...
I agree with Rekha. Seems like Zoya will marry both the brothers at different points in time and the strange thing is both the brothers fall in love with her but are unaware that Zoya is the wife of his brother. Kind of Shyam scenario but here I think Gul will go ahead and show Zoya as married to Ayaan first and then to Asad. But frankly I think Gul is playing with fire here. This concept is not going to go well with Indian audience per se. And I have no idea how she intends to dispel myths of Islamic culture if she is going to show this in the serial. Maybe she will make another pavitra rishta and have the serial on air forever and ever. Zee is quite forgiving when it comes to TRPs but the point is do you want to be known for a serial which no one understands and appreciates. Gul had one bright chance in changing the name of the Indian Telly with IPK but she squarely lost it and floundered.
Deletereading the synopsis, nowhere does it say that asad married zoya.. so where did that thought come from?
DeleteJ....it doesn't mention it...but just an deduction on the love story if Asad is the hero (the elder bro?)....bt i genuinely read in a post that Zoya gets married to both brothers....i don't remember wat else the post was about....but i do remember a montage of the girl and the both guys in it...yeah i remember it also said that it was based in Bhopal and Gul happens to have her roots there...i remember this distinctly becos for me the setting of a story plays a role....i thot since Gul is from Bhopal, maybe she will do better justice to tat part of the story than on display in IPK...
DeleteInteresting..
DeleteWhat is temporary marriage and what is permanent marriage?
What is Humeiraa's role in this rom- com family saga?
Except for the bit about Zoya marrying Ayan, I think the story looks promising.
And this temporary marriage- it could very well be something Ayan cooked up to spite Humeiraa...as well as him truly believing he has been bitten by the love bug. During the meteor shower, he clearly mentioned that he wants to be an aashiq, but wants to stay clear of ishq. Both the bros are afraid of love- one to the commitment part and the other to the disappointment and sorrow that seems inevitable. Asad's fear of love stems from the unrequited love this beautiful emotion brought on his mother, I suppose.
I keep reading here and there in some sites that two brothers falling for the same girl is not what the story is about- means- don't read too much in to it. It is impossible for Zoya to fall in love with a bachha like Ayan.
I am eagerly awaiting that track when Ayan supposedly marries Zoya. KSG fans will make minced meat out of Gul.(I don't think that will last more than a week, since there is mushkil se some chemistry between Asad and Zoya...there is none between Ayan and Zoya.
Gul will not go the Ekta Kapoor way- I do have that much faith in Gul. If Ayan enlists Asad's help in getting Zoya, he will be unaware of his bro's feelings...as will be Asad himself...it will be interesting to watch.
From the meteor shower.
DeleteHumeira clearly asked for Ayan.
Ayan did not even wish for true love. Asad and Zoya wasted their wishes by cursing themselves on the other. (Main kitni unromantic hoon!)
Shireen did not get to wish.
Didn't see what happened with Dilshad and Rashid.
Yeh Gul ka show hai na. Stars and meteors decide the storyline here...not channel or fandom...samjhe?!!
As a person, who has not seen even a single frame, let me not quote wrong info...its quite possible i may be mistaken...i read it fleetingly...ho sakta hain i misunderstood...
DeleteRekh,
DeleteMy reply was directed to no one in particular.
No. You may not be mistaken at all.
It is quite possible that there will be a marriage and all, after all, Gul did suceed in getting Khushi engaged to Shyam. If someone had told me at the beginning of IPK this was to happen I would've pooh pooh-ed that too.
I think if Gul takes the story there, it will not be a fleeting decision. There will be something to it. I hope.
this is depressing - two days and no new post - we have to come up with new things to discuss - even if its a ipk revisit!!!
ReplyDeleteQH - Gul - listen up, loud and clear - cant do anything about IPK now but if you dare to use "Tum theek Ho" on any other character, for any other context, for whatever reason - there shall be blood shed - so be warned!! do care if you have to look up every dictionary that exist to find synonyms for TTH - tum theek ho is only for Arhi - you can in fact take a patent out on that one!
so apparently one does not inherit much from your father - the slimy spineless wimp has decent kids - all of them and he is just that SSW!!
Monu....on the TTH....i am sure if anyone else said it, will not sound half as gud as ODB....kuch cheezon ke liye patent ki zaroorat nahin hoti.....han na?
DeleteHum jahan pe khade hote hain, line wahan se shuru hoti hain...
Mona,
DeleteThe diktat is only to Gul, right?
Not applicable to non 4 lions serials, I hope...
MB just used it today. (LOL. Poor man's IPK?)
Madhu, tum theek ho?
Don't worry. he did not even attempt the sexy tone.
I wouldn't even have noticed it if I was not watching it right after reading your comment. ROFL..
You have some sixth sense? huggss...
MTV Unplugged Season 2 - last week was Kailash Kher. I think teh season began with ARR. Ok YT here I come.
ReplyDeleteAnd dod I see new acronyms - SSW and TVTW - Dia bahut nainsaafi too close for comfort to TWTW ;)
Rofl ... okay, Sandy ... will change it ... no TVTW ... just TV This Week :))) So far I'm only watching Veera.
DeleteDid anyone see Kaali? I saw the first ten minutes ... then OMG, ANOTHER one of those political goonda types with big tilak and fake moustache ... has SP lost it? Two political dramas one after the other at prime time?! It will lose the entire IPK audience in a month!
apparently it already has :)
DeleteO teri, post got posted way below instead of here.
DeleteD,
made a comment on books waala post - i think pending for approval.
Sandy ... done! :)))
DeleteAnita ... to be expected! This is what is called shooting yourself in the foot ... or apne paon par kulhadi maarna. SP, I mean.
Reading Usha's synopsis of QH, this is what I think (that is if the synopsis is correct).
ReplyDeleteThe Love triangle
Zoya and Ayaan get married impulsively after falling for each other. From whatever they have shown of Ayan, the guy is incorrigible flirt, one for whom the chase is more exciting than the kill. Hence, he loses interest in Zoya after the marriage (or maybe he led Zoya into believing that he too loved her because he wanted to take revenge for the times she was responsible for hurting him). After being married for a short while (the marriage being a secret from both the families), Ayaan pronounces talaq three times and ends up dissolving the marriage. As the synoposis says, he later falls for her and wants her back but according to the Muslim law if a man pronounces talaq three times, he has divorced his wife irrocably (meaning he cannot remarry her) unless she gets married to another man and he too divorces her willingly.
I guess this is where Azad's role in this mess comes in. Ayan may seek his help and ask him to marry Zoya only to divorce her later so that Ayan can remarry her. As Azad cannot refuse his kid brother anything, he reluctantly agrees. Zoya, in the mean time gets drawn to Azad and realises what she had felt for Ayan was merely infactuation. Azad and Zoya get married, one for the love for his brother and the other for the love of the man himself. After marriage Azad slowly falls for Zoya. He is then in a dilemma, unable to give up on the woman he loves. Zoya in the mean time may realise that Humaira loves Ayan and helps her to get Ayan's affections. Ayan finally reciprocates humaira's feelings but by then Zoya comes to know that Azad had married her so that he can divorce her and free her for Ayan. She is deeply hurt at being used by the two brothers and leaves Azad. Ayan then helps the two reconcile.
The Family Drama
Zoya mentions that her father in in Bhopal although her mother is dead. Now I think that this mysterious father is none other than the tyrannical brother of Ayan's mom. Maybe he had a secret family stashed up somewhere- Zoya and her mom. Zoya's mom died in a fire and he may havev thought Zoya too died in the fire. Zoya may have been adopted by Zeenat's family and they moved to the U.S. Now a grown up Zoya has returned to trace her roots. If this is the case, Humaira would be her half sister and Ayan, her cousin but I think in Islam cousins can get married.
Zoya will be responsible for healing the wounds between the two families - Azad's and Ayan's. She is already shown to be trying to get Dilshad and Rashid close. As Islam allows for a man to have more than one wife at a time (subject to a maxium of 4) as long as the wives are willing to coexist peacefully, they may well show the union of the two families. Haseena may create problems once she knows that Zoya is her husband's daughter so some patch work may be done there too. Zoya may also play a crucial role in Nikhat's marriage as she may get Imran to grow a spine and go against his family to marry Nikhat. She may also be the responsible Bhabhi who helps Najma find her life partner. I think it is the sacrifices that she does for his mother and sister that makes Azad see Zoya in a different light and fall for her.
For now, this is all I can guess. Let us see how the story pans out. If the narration, screen play and acting does not pick up I may give up on this show soon, though.
DeleteOpti,
I kind of like the way you have played out the story.
One additional angle which I don't know if I mistook reading. When Humeira faints and falls, the father and mother of humeira keep glancing at each other.
Now is Humeira unwell or having some kind of sickness I wonder.
Another is that going by the synopsis, one more girl needs to enter who Asad has to marry who is traditional etcetera as he wants, to bring home the difference of seemingly traditional and seemingly modern. To bring home the difference to Asad of not to judge a book by its cover so to speak.
Usha,
DeleteI missed out on that one. Yes. Humaira may well be suffering from some medical problem, the reaspon why Haseena and her husband are keen to get her married to Ayan since he is family and may not create a scene once he finds out. Maybe Ayan marrying Humaira and taking care of her through her sickness would make him a responsible man.
Yes, maybe another girl is introduced who would be Azad's fiance but I dont think he will marry her. Maybe her true colours come out before the marriage.
I think the whole idea of this show is to explore all the myths surrounding Islam and the way it is practiced - multiple wives, talaq, subjucation of women in the name of safeguarding their honour etc. They may explore each customs and try to give the modern perspective to it. Religion needs to be practiced in spirit and not merely the letter.
One scene which I really liked was the first scene where Zoya, Azad and Ayan are in the same frame - the dargah scene. Zoya who had just run away from her marriage goes to the dargah and lets lose her emotions in the form of tears. Azad sees her for the first time and is drawn to her pathos. her hurt is reflected in his eyes. Ayan who was sitting next to him also notices her and is drawn by her beauty. Shows that the two brothers will be attracted to Zoya in totally different ways. While Ayan, the shallow one, will be attracted to her beauty, Azad will connect with her in a deeper level and fall for her soul.
DeleteOpti,
Wow, that was well said.
One thing that I have realised in a 4 lion show is you can run but you cannot hide. Love it, hate it, You just cannot ignore it. Atleast I can't. :-)))))
Opti,
DeleteAs always, I like your stories far better than what the cv's show. And since this is another 4lions and Gul production, am sure this will be the same!
Opti,
DeleteI concur with Dia. having read this I think Mann bhar gaya. I wont venture to see.
Narration, screenplay and dialogues - well not the same team of IPK. So it was truly a team work and not a one man army as many would like me to believe.
By the way, the best story I watched about two brothers falling for the same girl was Sabrina, with Audrey Hepburn. And a very decent Indian adaptation was done with Kajol, Akshay Kumar and Saif ... Yeh Dillagi. But in neither did the girl actually marry the brothers ... she fell for the younger one first, older one fell for her and she then fell for him, some sacrifice on his part for younger bro, then happy ending was with the older one. Characterization of brothers similar to QH. So Madam Gul is not being very original here :)))
DeleteOn characterisation, i have to say originality is like an elusive oasis...i would say the challenge would be to make two equally strong guys and show why the heroine still falls for one of them...for me love has never been abot that ....
DeleteIn IPK, i go back to it as if it were a metaphor...in the initial episodes when Shyam was being a perfect gentleman, we used to comment on Arnav and Shyam and why Khushi always felt more drawn to ASR than Shyam ever....(other than the point of ASR being the hero and I will never BS's offscreen comment abot it) as u said earlier Love as its own reasons that reasons don't understand..in the final analysis, ur heart knows.....thats all!!
Rekha,
Delete"originality is like an elusive oasis"
Hmm. What is so dofferent between a Simran, Khushi, Madhubala, Zoya (Ishaqzaade) or even the lady doctor lead in Astitva or Neena Gupta in Saans. All women in love.
But it is their circumstances, the particaular manner in which the people around them react and how they try and stay true to theirself yet give in to the illogic of the heart that sets them apart.
And true the impact of a choice is more keenly felt when it is made from amongst 2 equally strong options. When one option is weaker, the choice seems a foregone conclusion.

ReplyDeletea compilation of a LOT of IPK offscreen moments.. awww i miss them!
This was really good to watch. Warm fuzzy feelings come :)))
DeleteI miss IPK! :(
R&R deviyon - Ek big bear wala jhappi !!!
ReplyDeleteIPK - Juda hoke bhi tu mujhme kahi baki hai !!
MB - MB is in love with BittoJi ... mein aur kya boloon of the constant love filled BittoJi that went on past week or any episode I watched of MB. Vampire expressions are decent. That was surprising but still no transition. Sanu ki. DD a big let down after all the reviews I got.
QH - Rashid a SSW.... Kya naam diya hai Mona .... Now this happens only in R&R.
Rashid is not married to Dilshad anymore. 17 years of no physical relationship or a penny spend on living of wife ... there is no marriage anymore. Hope Dilshad or someone spits it on Rashids face soon enough. I hate were this is going to end knowing 4Lions. Am sorry I just cannot watch it because its much better than all the crap out there. Soon Gul will need to shift to one set only and if they will show Dilshad accepting this man (with remarriage if Gul intends to keep Dilshads dignity intact or without it)... it will be jor ka tamacha on all the regressive norms that Muslim women have fought to establish correct way of Islamic living in todays world.
Rashid is not even married to Shirin. Second marriage has to be with wholehearted permission of first wife or a logical conclusion reached by the couple. Here it does not seem to be the case. Yes it happens in society too but why take the ugly leaf out of life and promote it. If Gul Khan wants modern Islam to flourish as per her interview (which on itself was contradictory) situations that she is sketching is not the way. With past experience we know the ugly will be shown without any chance given to the good.
Kali - Disappointed by Teacher. Villain is cool but there's only this much one can watch a fatso villain for his good acting.
Khamoshiyan - Naam ke tarah hi Khamosh hai.
BV - One hell of a Production House. I was crying while watching BV. If only IPK had the tehraav BV has or chalo toda aur pace would be good ... IPK could have run for over 3 years easily without losing its charm. So many characters in BV ... in short span of watching I could feel the presence of all the characters.
YRKKH - Disappointed even by YRKKH standards. Akshara din't come out as a mom at all. She was better with baby Naksh maybe because of real affection towards the baby but last 2 episodes it completely fell flat. Here I must praise Archana from PR. She played mother role to people her age and elder to her too but mostly was convincing. Apart from the look. Ab usme karbhi kya sakte hain.
Parvarish - Anyone wants lighthearted moments watch this. Day to day stuff of 2 Punjabi families but with its own charm and good humour.
VEERA !!! I love it . Bas.
Any actor will have a tough job stepping into Ranvis little shoes. Ranvi is huge. Each and every emotion. Simple wow! When I watch the little kid, it keeps me away from missing SaRun. Enough said.
Bottom line. Indian Television without SaRun is dull.
After surfing Indi TV I have to give it to Gul and Ekta ... They do have the power to make audience react. Be it in a good way or bad.
Sama
DeleteAa gayi..Jhappis Jhappis!!
Btw I didnt get the point on jor ka tamacha - are you for Dilshad's reunion or against it in the context of Muslim women enforcing tradition in the spirit rather than the letter of the law?
I agree that religion is tricky. It is a very fine line and airing contentionable issues to show a contrarion point thereby passing a judgement can also bomb badly. Well dekhte hain.
And I agree TV without IPK is dull!!
Sandy ... Mein agayi mein agayi !! :D
DeleteKesan ho ??? Guess you are free now :P
I am against Dilshad uniting with Rashid ... anyhow - remarriage or not. Yes it is allowed in Islam but again IF and only IF the lady wishes. In society its mostly forced on her the moment husband is ready to take his wife back. And I don't like the idea of a woman accepting a SSW.(Mona I just love you :D) Though I really liked Rashid-Dilshad's chemistry in the promo they aired. The only promo that attracted me to QH. Rashids character and the teenage behaviour he is showing is a let down.
Sam,
DeleteHugs!! tere aur blogspot mein sulah ho gayi?
TV without IPK/Sarun is indeed dull!!
Sama - glad to see you here - TV without IPK is horrid so we really do need to come here to take care of out withdrawal :D
DeleteAlso - i guess more than Sarun - i miss not having animated looooooong discussions on every dialogue, gesture, eye contact, even props!! am pretty sure that the creating team also did not think that deeply - we were able to 'see' things that the team may or may not have put there intentionally but it gave us hours of fun going back and forth!!
long live R&R (and IPK repeats!)
Sama! Bhelcomes back! Kaisan ho?
DeleteI'm very interested and intrigued by your post ... clears up a lot of misconceptions. I also had the idea that the first wife has to agree to the second marriage. Haven't been following the show at all, even though the R&R deviyan are trying their best to get me interested! :)
What about that concept that if a man divorces a woman, he can't just re-marry her again, she has to marry someone else first, divorce him and then only can she re-marry the first husband? IS that also a myth?
So many things one doesn't know about Islam - this itself is an education. I don't trust Gul too far though, especially if you say she's already going haywire.
Besides, my biggest peeve is with the hero. What little I've seen, he's regressive in his thinking and far too conservative for my taste.
Dia, (bahahaha) zoya today told Asad that he needs to update his usool, dont live in the 70's.
Deletei love the asad-najma scenes.. adorable.
i was thinking the same.. discussion via mona and sama is indeed an education.
according to the story, najma is far younger to asad, i thought najma was younger than ayaan, so zoya may..be eligible to wed ayan? (ducking the sade tamatar)
sama, staying away from his wife does not make him a divorcee.. and if dilshad does not want a talaq, and rashid refused to talaq her.. (everyone seems to have accepted that rashid has two families) then how can they be not married?
yes, it is terrible to dilshad and kids to have an absentee father, but the question that arises is, is an estranged father better than a divorced father?
yes, rashid has promised shireen to never contact dilshad, but technically, what can shireen do if rashid decided that he wants to spend time with dilshad?
The biggest Q I have on Islam is the man having more than one wife- it is legal, right?
DeleteIf the man and the two women have no problem with it, I don't bother about that bit.
On the modern Islam, I think Gul was talkig about the 'kya aapko Zoya qubool hai?"- the bit where she Qs the restrictions placed on women- "Allah Miyaan, What's wrong with this country?"(Applies to all religions actually!)
*Hugs* Sama, missed you.
DeleteSammy,
Deleteyes bey better already :)
Btw this multiple wife and Islam is a glorified thing bcos of film stars supposedly converting to islam so they can marry again without divorcing their first wife. The most popular being Dharmendra and Hema malini. Like these girls asked, in that case what are the rights the 2ns wife has?
Dia,
ReplyDeleteThank you!
I think from what I have heard of Veera they should have just moved it to IPK's timeslot and let Kali be. IPK to begin with highlighted teh bro sis love and I recall when Veera was announced IF was abuzz with it displacing IPK which was garnering poor TRP at that time, arnd Jun I think.
SN: Why are the agnihotris looking so awful in ek hazaaron main and I saw a lot of pun about the forcing to come back and so forth in comepetition. looks like offscreen came onscreen post haste.
As for SP losing it I don't think they ever had it. We all gave them too much credit and they let us be happily mistaken.
Having read Opti's outline below I wonder if in the original story Khushi was intended to move away and perhaps meet a new man always. Arnav let her go but Khushi in time realized her destiny and came back to Arnav of her free will. Cos QH seems to have Zoya doing everything. Nari shakti and all that and all ASR was supposed to do was fall in love, pine, wait and eventually believe in destiny for Khushi would have come back to him when he believed her lost forever. He was never meant to do anything as per original story, yep that shaatir dimaag and an ASR who would move heaven and earth for Khushi was a figment of our collective imagination that was not qubool to producers and the creatives were cornered.
Sandy,
DeleteAgree with you. Veera should replace the show Kaali and Kaali should go back to being a late night show. I like the baby girl and the brother - a relationship that tugs at your heart. And it is high time SP gets production houses to spend on their serials.
BV - Had awesome sangeet, marriage sequences. Can't believe it is not for Maha episode but for normal day to day episodes.
MB:- DD was a big letdown for me. Couldn't see her for 2 episodes straight. I wanted to jump on MB bandwagon because GH seems to be rectifying ASR's character there with RK. But sorry to say was heavily disappointed. DD couldn't get the pathos in her character. I was constantly comparing her to Sanaya - the pain Khushi shows when Arnav is going away or when she realizes Arnav has been kidnapped - Sanaya aced those scenes. DD was very flat. She couldn't convince me that she was pinning for her husband albeit a char phere wala husband. That is one thing I am hating in MB - the ridicule of the sanctity of marriage.
Vivian somehow looked more dashing and more groomed in Pyar ki ek kahaani. Given that he is superstar here, shouldn't he be more groomed. He gets the non-interested look all right but somehow he didn't impress me too much. Barun was class apart when he was portraying the 'Dont-care-a-damn-for-anyone' attitude.
Sets were awesome in MB but the rest of the cast were not impressive.
Star should seriously look at the serials being promoted on Colors and figure out that if it wants to stay on as No.1 GEC, it needs PH which will spend money. And with 24 coming on colors which is a big budget series, I am pretty sure Colors will topple Star most probably by end of this year.
Zee TV:- I watch only SA RE GA MA on Zee as that is the only show that is worth a dekho on that channel. Can't relate to any of the shows. And QH to bilkul bhi nahi. Gul ke shows se please mujhe koi bachao.
So in all most probably will try to catch Veera but the timings are horrible as it is 10:30PM show. I used to watch behna show earlier but now it has become a khichdi and it is dragging just for the sake of dragging. I think basically that PH also has run out of story as the behna track was solely on the premise of a sister sacrificing everything to save her younger sister. That done and cancer track is over - now the creatives don't know what to show. Hmm why do I feel this show is also going the IPK way. MB has overtaken the show ages back and I see a slow decline in the popularity of this show.
Yeh Rishta I never understand that show. Earlier all, that show was about customs, festivals and celebrations. Now they got a good chance of Akshara growing as a capable person but sorry to say Hina completely disappointed me. She just couldn't get any growth in her character. It was just as if Akshara woke up one day and decided to join the office. No missing Naitik, No sorrow, no longing - or am I missing something.
In all I agree with Sandy, without IPK, I am feeling TV is real bore.
Sarada i know what you mean when you say you cant help but compare MB with IPK..
Deletei watched MB for a few days and after yesterday i have decided (i am biased of course!!)
1. No one faints better than SI.
2. No one can catch their fainting love better than BS.
3. No one does caring better than ODC.
oh and i cant believe i was waiting for VD to call her by her name..he should not!! he sounds much better when he says 'biwi'...sigh..Star should just re-telecast IPK...
Sama, welcome back!!*hugs*
Agree with you Anita. Sanaya and BS have raised the bar of expectations for me. I was constantly comparing MB and IPK but then decided that IPK is much better and so am giving MB a complete miss. Maybe 2 months down the lane when the IPK syndrome has lessened I will give MB another chance.
DeleteVeera I am really liking but afsoos the timings are horrible. I wish Star wakes up and changes the timings for Veera with Kaali. I can watch Veera at 8PM. I do hope something comes up that I can watch. Sigh. IPK what have you done to me.
Anita - ROFL - of course you are not biased - you are stating the facts as they are - and we all support your view point ;)
Deleteanita.. just noticed this..
Delete1. No one faints better than SI.
2. No one can catch their fainting love better than BS.
3. No one does caring better than ODC.
we should make a poster and mail it to star and colors and 4L :D
SN: his name is VD? what is it with heroes and unfortunate initials! :P
Anita,
DeleteNever thought I'd be saying this.
I thought that fainting act by Drashti was good. She really fell backwards- girl trusts Vivian.
Pts 2 & 3- no doubt.
On the whole I second the poster idea!
Jaya..the poster idea is perfect!!! we should :D
Deleteand about the initials..his name is Vivian D'sena..VD it is :P ...i always have a smile when i type BS :P
Su...DD was alright..just not as good as SI...when she started falling back..and he stopped her fall..i was like good thing VD is tall..he seemed far away in that shot had had to cover a long distance..pakadta nahi toh?!!
Sandy, you may be very right ... I remembered the bandagement scene when Khushi tells Arnav that one day I won't be around and then you will realise that it's Devi Maiyya who writes your destiny ... so there was always a separation envisaged. I think it should have happened around the second marriage ... Arnav was not supposed to come back, Khushi was to go missing after waiting for him ... and then another separation track. As cv's had given us all the romantic moments during the lead up to the wedding, they were ready for the separation. Whether SP pulled the plug on that in favour of happy marriage, or Barun's leaving made SP decide that both Shyam and the Arhi story should be given proper closure before he left ... that we will never know.
DeleteI find MB too theatrical and 70's Bollywood-ish ... again IPK and its very realistic dialogues and acting has just spoiled me for anything else. Need to detox, I think! Which is not going to happen soon ... as everyday I end up watching a few of the old scenes, and getting hooked again!
following that poster idea... today watched a few snippets of popular movies.. and missed arhi.. the fall and catch...( such an overused scene that we roll our eyes.. became something tender.. and adorable.. and something so sweet.. ) watching even seasoned actors doing that .. falls short. because they are not arhi.
Deletehayee ab mera kya hoga!
J, Dia, Anita, Su, Mona, Sarada
DeleteArrey instead of a poster one of the VM makers shoudl ahve made a VM or rather showcased that eternal tribute to ArHi waala VM plus done a slideshow / video presentation using some cool songs and the scenes of the show including all cast highlighting dialogues music and the people behind them and sweetly shown the channel the finger. Should've called it fan response to their fav shows and shown Star why this show was such a rage.
Sarada,
Yep GH will try na. Besides I always wonder with serials. They cannot outright condemn but making a statement like 4 pheron waali biwi and 7 pheron waali biwi makes me pause and wonder - it is so true. So many people go thru the motions of marriage while a few nibhaao the rishta in its true sense. That is why I have always liked Mallik and Padmini's relationship. He has no so called relationship with her but he has always respected the voow to protect them and been so much more a father and husband than many legally wedded men.
Dia, Separattion tho was deffo. Forget marriage, it was a seed of an idea since that night Khushi Arnav had a tiff and he said he wished she had never come into his life - that female RV which played that once and then disappeared.
Then there was this one day when Khushi feigns hurt and that mid week powerhouse epi at guptas. I was waiting for that separation for I wanted to see BS emote how everyone would forgive him but Arnav would find it hard to forgive himself. But they rushed in the past and in between had that epi where he comes and apologizes to her.
PH apparently listened to viewers on their fan page saying please do not separate Arnav and Khushi so soon after they just met post kidnap. Tell me in the initial days when they lived in separate houses, how many ArHi scenes we all had seen? Did they never share a frame them? To me it is merely the power of suggestion Dia because we could have had powerful ArHi scenes had they separated at that point. Heck we all wanted her to go back to Lucknow at that point. Raakhi could have been celebrated without Khushi. Payal could have been given a role with Khushi guiding her over phone and Payal convincing her jeth. NK supports her. But there was a hurry to bring Shyam in. I think Abhaas's contract was expiring by Sep cos he had been chucked out in Jul and then came back in a month's time stayed thru Aug and Sep and left the show without a murmur.
The past coming out would / could have been a 2nd separation when they were happily married and again looking forward to a happy life together.
PH played around a lot with the story Dia and agree channel could have poked nose at time of remarriage and all but going ahead with remarriage and closing past quickly I thought was a PH call out and out. The Open letter came right after saying story has run its course.
They timed it all well with actors leaving or wanting to leave so we always thot their hands were twisted much more than perhaps they actually were.
Oh Dia and for PH kanjoosi
Deletewell they did rent out the set to BV for a while. RM poolside I know like back of my hand.
ROFL for the silent movie...

Ok I get it that stories are built on the ‘unusual’, the ‘different experience’ – hence the story - hence the fun in telling it
ReplyDeleteBUT
if you are trying to dispel myth – you should tell the truth (the actual full-fledged truth - not the exception that people may misuse!)
BUT that is IF you want to ‘dispel’ myth – for all I know Gul has no such intention and just wants to use the typical stereotypes as a background to tell her story
In any case – if the story is going in the direction suspected – have to state the following (sorry to bore you all but having grown up in an environment where I and my sisters spent a lot of time responding to stupid points about ‘how many wives our dad has’ and ‘you guys can kick a woman out after thee words’ – this has become a habit with me to clear these facts!:
- There is no such thing as a ‘temporary marriage’ in Islam (in any religion for that matter) – the Arabs, (before Islam), used to marry for a specific time period, this was called ‘Muta’ and this practice was banned after Islam came
-Dilshad and her husband are still husband and wife though separated and in such a case, if Dilshad wants a divorce, she will get it in a blink of an eye (am pretty sure SSW would not ask for hence am not mentioning him!)
- No Sama, SSW and Shireen are legally married – the permission of the first wife is desirable but not mandatory – so he could have married Shireen without permission as well
- If the track is going down the triple talaq route – Yes, you do have to pronounce “I divorce thee..” three times BUT in the presence of atleast 2 witnesses, in a state of calm (the statements are invalid if uttered in the state of intoxication, anger etc) and other conditions apply as well – such as the woman should not be menstruating at that point in time. NOW this constitutes stage One – the same has to be repeated after 3 months – IF a reconciliation happens during the time period, the divorce does not happen!
- Finally, as Opti said – Divorce is irrevocable in Islam – meaning if you divorce your wife (or seek divorce from your husband) you cannot marry your ex-spouse again – UNTILL she marries someone else and divorces him – Please note here that the second marriage CANNOT be ‘deal’ or a fake marriage or even done with the intention of breaking up so as to marry again spouse no1. That is the law (though if people cheat God, that’s their thing)
The one thing I understand about my religion (in terms of practice) is that not only are things judged as per good to bad scale – they are judged as per the permissible to prohibited scale. Thereby something maybe good but not permissible, i.e. prohibited (such as alcohol, usery) or bad but permissible (such as (1)divorce – it is considered the least liked of the permissible things and (2)having more than one wife)
Back to QH –
1- I really can’t see Ayaan marrying Zoya at this stage – Zoya though very like him is too old for him and Zoya and Asad already share some history – will be amazed if Gul still managed to get Ayaan and Zoya married (and will of course stop watching!)
2-Can’t figure out why Ayaan does not come home to meet his sister – he has been talking about ‘us 5’ but he meets his brother out in the open but not at home? Dilshad knows the relationship the brothers share and is ok with it – then why?
3- It must be really easy to write QH – after every few dialogues – but in a song sequence and let the camera and actors take care of it!
4- Ok get SSW is a SSW but why is Dilshad so ‘hai hai!” about this???
Mona,
Delete2. Ayaan is close to Asad, not so much to Dilshad or Najma. He struggles to keep his relationship with bhaijaaan under wraps.
3. heh heh...I knew this rant was coming up!
4. Gul's heroines have only one motto in life: To forgive is divine- they believe in creating heaven on earth.
Su,
Deletewho is the forgiving heroine in QH? Zoya? Or Dilshad?
Am watching very sporadically and basically keeping up only with discussions here, so am a bit at sea :)))
Su, hehehe - glad you know me so well :D - i love music - either old movies (1950s to 60s and some of the 70s) but i think its a very easy way out for serials to bank on filmy music and skip through scenes that should have taken the story forward!
Deleteso agree with you - Gul i don't think has any complex but she plays to the 'general Indian TV audience' by making the heroines Mahaan - just as all other PHs do but to be fair, i guess coz her stories have been different from the regualr saas bahu saga - the disproportionate mahaanta stands out!
Mona,
ReplyDeleteHas this PH done justice to any of their plots? So don't hold your breath for them to portray any of the customs as they are meant to be. They may use and abuse the customs for their story purposes just as they used and abused the pregnancy tracks in Geet and IPK. In both these shows pregnancy played a huge role in the lives of the leads but they got rid of it in the most grotesque way to suit tehir purposes. Marriage was made a mockery and it was really stupid to show that Khushi was not aware that her marriage was incomplete without the pheras till she heard nani discuss it much later. A girl so seeped in tradition is bound to know the sanctity of marriage. I also do not understand the obsession of this PH with keeping all relations within the family. In Geet, Geet was duped into a fake marriage with Dev, got pregnant by him and ended up marrying his brother Maan. In IPK, Khushi was engaged to Arnav's brother-in-law, broke that engagement, still got punished into a forced marriage with Arnav and finally married him for love. Here we see the prospct of the girl marrying the two brothers.
As to how Zoya can marry Ayan since she is older to him, maybe that is another revolutionary thinking (which may be more of revulsion for us.
To be frank, what kept me hooked to Geet and IPK was the amazing chemsitry between the leads and here I don't see any so far. So if the story is not captivating enough, I guess I will soon lose interest in the show. I haven't watched Junoon (which airs at the same time) as yet. I have to catch up on a lot of past episodes but I think I may well take the trouble if QH continues to be as lacklustre as it currently is.
Opti - i have to agree to everything you say about the PH!!
Deleteoh i have no problems with the girl being older - its just that i did not think that it was possible here coz she was older in thought (as in maturity) - but then this is television - no sense in talking of logic!
oh and yes i know that there is no chemistry so far - me, i did not watch geet - in fact the only serial i ever watched was IPK and it was coz of the leads - no two ways about it -
As for QH, i am watching it (holding my breath, more like) because i fear that this will turn out to be one of the usual stereotypical muslim saga - i just want to know IF it can actually be different!
Agree with you Opti on this PH. The stories that Gul is conceiving are the same and basically she does with a couple of characters only. She can't think like Sphere origins BV wherein there are many characters who come and go as the story demands.
DeleteThe only reason I got hooked on to Geet and IPK was the chemistry of the leads. I couldn't stand the QH promos itself toh serial toh bahut door ki baat hai. I am pretty sure Gul is going to make a mockery of everything here also. So better not to watch the show at all.
Mona, loved your detailed explanation actually.
DeleteOpti, We are a set of five friends in AD including me and out of them 3 are married to guys younger than them, not too much but younger by 1-2 years.
And can somebody tell me the following.......because I am a tube light :-(
BFTP
SSW
And I just started watching a Pakistani tv serial recommended by a friend called Zindagi Gulzar Hai. I had seen an earlier one called 'Humsafar' of the same actor. I actually liked it.
Usha - BFTP - Blast From The Past and SSW is a new one - its Slimy Spineless Wimp!!
DeletePaki plays are really nice (or were nice when i used to see them - Tanhaiyan, Dhoop Kinarey, Ankahi and Angan Tera were my favorites) - don't know what they are like now)
DeleteMona,
Thanks for giving the full forms. :-))
I too had seen only the ones you mentioned 20 years back but just very recently I was reintroduced to it and HUMSAFAR was the first of the recent and the hero was very good looking. So got the chaskha again :-)))
Opti,
DeleteI am surprised that you still look for social messages in Gul's stories.
I think Gul just wants to tell a fairy tale,I don't think she is in the least bit bothered about social messages.
On QH, I don't expect her to tackle or clear the misconceptions about Islam especially if she is going with the 2 bros marrying the same girl story. I think that plot has just the opposite effect- it demeans the fundamentals of a beautiful religion (at least as I understand it)- there is no way 'talaq' can be justified even between Ayan and Zoya- makes a mockery of marriage- makes me feel all the more it is an unlikely plot. Ofc, can't say for sure.
Psarada,
Agree with you 100 pc on BV.
It is a well conceived and executed story- deserves the 1000 plus epis.(Esp love the way the negative female characters are written. I thought Gauri was the best written vamp- so real! And recently,Shiv's sister- another realistic character- a rarity in soap world.)But it never had the pull that IPK had for me.
I don't know much of Gul's work to comment but IPK gave me the sense that the makers are not really looking to address any social messages, which by itself is ok..not everyone looks at entertainment in the same way....
DeleteBut, when plots take up serious matters and makers let it fall by the wayside, one is bound to face criticism on that account...issues such as the use of children to make some point in the track, or the grotesque way in which the miscarriage was handled, the shyam's exposure....
So, I agree with Su that Gul doesn't really look at her stories in that way but then it is also incumbent on a person who is weaving a fairy tale to stay clear of topics if u don't have a point to make on it, just go with the flow without making use of such plots...Viewers can sit on the fence but the writer does not have the same privilege..His action or inaction will cause people to presume things...
On serials handling social messages, i guess BV would be a gud one to talk in dealing with an issue and staying true for a large part. My points are based on conjecture and what i gather from snippets on TV or discssions, they start a serial, where they show the ill-effects of child marriage, (maybe there may been parts glorying the relationship at some point due to TRP constraints) but through the journey showing that such marriages are ill-advised and people should ideally marry when they are mature to deal with the situation....i don't know what message the viewers take out of it but atleast i am glad that BV has tried to stay true to it...
Mona, Usha.....I am watching Zindagi Gulzar Hai also....I watched Humsafar...in fact I was so obsessed with it like IPK....I loved the tight-knit story that was wrapped up on a happy note.....Fawad Khan (Asher) is a gorgeous..and seems so real! In fact, I feel that some good PH can start to do shorter serials...as a way to differentiate themselves from the Ekta-type serials that go on and on.....by taking a story and staying true to it and wrap it up....Pakistani shows run weekly and run for a much shorter time than even IPK. The story is told and there is proper closure. Humsafar was a HUGE hit and created a sensation....So it can be done.
DeleteSu and sarada,
DeleteAgree with you on BV ... the list of characters is impressive, and they all seem well sketched out. As are the basic story tracks ... for a long time, BV dealt with social issues, and when I say dealt, I mean really dealt ... they addressed issues and gave them proper closure, like educating Anandi, her becoming panchayat head (or something) ... the way the whole family came round to the divorce and then re-marriage ... each and every family member is involved and that gives the scenes that sense of completeness and realism. Which the sets and costumes don't :))) I think the main reason I can't watch BV for any length of time is that it tended to become too preachy, and the too garish costumes and women laden with jewelry all the time put me off! But the screenplay and dialogues are by and large good, there are not too many negative characters, and they are balanced by the positive ones ... at least, from whatever little I have seen.
Girls,
DeleteGul basically wants to talk of a fairy tale and pretend it will also have social messages but that part she does not mean so they are always under the bus. A lot of people failed to understand how Anjali who is usually so sensitive, so loving and looked forward to her baby could simply move on and just miss her husband. Like many posts I thought Arnav and Khushi were more devastated than her.
In BV offlate as I watch snippets, the thehraav comes as in a dadi in a dilemna of wanting to do right yet feeling for her grandson, a girl who initially says yes to remarry for her family is upset when her fiance misunderstands, speaks up and then in a calm and mature way they both decide to go ahead. A boy who did so much wrong by his first wife and finally perhaps beginning to see glimpses of the magnitude of his errors. Yes the women are mahaan too but the relations on the table end up provoking thought and yes they have had reasonable issues to go on for as long as they have though they faltered in between.
QH I think has the largest character set from what you are telling me - much bigger than IPK. Did Geet have so many? Another thing is it too much to ask that the female lead not consider herself all knowing and hide things.
Alright are these Pakistani serials available on the net? I just might watch. Recall reading a note where someone compared ASR to Ashar from Humsafar.
Usha,
There is an acronyms post - check out the menu on the right wiht most of our short forms there. Once upon a time so much bak bak used to happen we needed to save character space :)
Su,
ReplyDeleteGul is the one who said that this show is supposed to re-examine common beliefs about Islam. It is supposed to be a family drama and not a fairytale. One has to wait to see what is the plot of this show but I thought the Muslim setting is there for a purpose. By the way, Geet too started off as a social drama before branching off as a romantic spin off. that was not at the instance of Gul but because Star One realised that their shift in focus to social themes lost them their traditional viewer base (the youth).
As to making mockery of marriage you think what she did in IPK was glorifying marriage? A ransom marriage without the pheras was the heights of mockery. So don't be too sure that she will not make a mockery of the marriages here. The opening episode showed the female lead running away from her wedding.
As to IPK having a pull that other better shows do not, it is a simple case of chemistry of the leads. Here we are yet to see that happen.
Opti,
DeleteA ransom marriage without the pheras IS the heights of mockery.
But what makes you think Gul subscribes to making marriage a mockery. If that was so, she wouldn’t have given us a remarriage.
Ifact that was one of the things for which closure was done so beautifully- An angry Arnav who stormed out of thehouse on SR raat- came back next morning to realize he had indeed made a mockery of marriage…and subsequently he went about correcting his mistake in the most humble and gentle way….
Don’t you think the same mockery of chaar phere waali shaadi is going to be corrected in MB after a lot of twists and turns?
QH is described as a rom com family drama or something- most definitely it falls under the romantic comedy. What remains to be seen is if the family part will stay too.
IPK did not thrive only on the chemistry- I don’t think Redux and DC and SG and we at R&R went nuts only on the chemistry. (You should be the one telling me this after your numerous beautiful takes on IPK)
Ofc, IPK is a phenomenon(a faulty one too, but rather a phenomenon)- I don’t expect QH or others to repeat that success.
Exactly Su,
DeleteThe mockery of the marriage was shown to later show how that was corrected. So why do you think that showing two borthers marry the same girl is making a mockery of Islam? The wrong use of talaq can be shown to underline how it is misused and should be used instead. When Zoya leaves Azad after knowing why he married her, Azad could repent and redeem himself. (I really don't know the plot of QH so I can't say for sure whether the irrevocability of the talaq is an aspect which will get woven into the story. I merely said what I thought based on the synopsis (which in itself may or may not be correct) I am not against any show portraying certain customs being misused by some to suit their purposes as long as they show how this is redeemed.
While there are some similarities between MB and IPK, I feel the two shows have more diffferences. RK 'married' Madhu to teach her a lesson for daring to fight him. The two hated each other. He made no bones about the fact that he had made a mockery of the marriage. IPK was different. Both the leads were in love and it was a misunderstanding that made Arnav enter that ridiculous 6-month 'marriage' without pheras. He tortured his wife in private but maintained a happy front for his family. He never had the guts to reveal the 'deal' about the marriage to his family at any time. Yes, he was safeguarding his sister's happiness but I personally felt that the entire truth about the marriage should have come before the family at some point, especially afer Shyam's hand in it was revealed. The family never knew why Khushi accepted a marriage without pheras. She bore the brunt of it for everyone have already taken it for granted that ASR does not respect customs and traditions.
Between the characterisation of RK and ASR, I like RK more because the guy is intelligent (and uses his intelligence too), straight forward (does not mince words), owns up to what he does and is extremely sensitive. For a guy to hush up the attempts on his life by his father-in-law so that his wife does not get hurt was the heights of sensitivity to me.
ASR was made attractive for me by Barun. I doubt I would have loved ASR as much if some other actor was playing him.
Oh yes, IPK had more than chemistry for about 9 months. After that it was mostly chemistry which kept me hooked. The layering and the symbolic representations dwindled and became redundant. It was the same with Geet too. It was a phenomenon for about 9 months and was a pale shadow thereafter. QH does not look like it would become a phenomenon anytime soon. As to what I see in a show, I can see symbolisms even in non-4 lion shows. There were plenty of it in the lamp and wick show in the beginning (I dont watch it anymore). After all these things are the perceptions of the viewers and those that are wired that way will always see them even if the makers may or may not have put them in place. Blame it on active imagination.
QH has been described thus in the wikipedia. "The show will focus on the Muslim community and aims to dispel stereotypes regarding Islam." I don't think it is meant to be a romcom.
Opti,
DeleteWith you there - RK's character is better written than ASR..
RK is Emotional, hyper-reactive and sensitive -
While I do not like watching bad boy heroes and hated RK in the earlier episodes - his earlier horrific behavior and the new-improved behavior after transformation are both is in keeping with the character.
He is ruled by his passions - anger, hatred, caring or love..and is honest in his love and hate - no double standards, no hypocrisy..
ASR for me was always discordant - the dichotomy of his behavior in how he treated his Di and Khushi was always a sore point for me- it was not that the man did not know love or was unable to love - so the whole transformation of dimaag to dil was rather unconvincing - the only character growth was he learnt to treat Khushi with the same love and respect he gave his Di..
It was only Barun that made ASR likeable for me - and his portrayal of the conflict of love and hate for Khushi in the period between the hate-marriage and the kidnap track :)
QH - somehow cannot connect to any of the characters at all - hate the whole 2 marriages for dad routine - did not like the heroine much either - the TFC against meteor show was pathetic to say the least :)
Sri,
DeleteI have not watched MB so i can't comment on whether RK's sketch is better than ASR...so i will go with ur view on this...but i do want to respond to the discordant aspect...
Frankly, IPK failed to bring that about becos all the conflict points were nipped in...the fact that ASR had issues about love of the kind a man has for a woman was explained in the narrative, (clear or not clear, i will leave it individual perspective)
we were made to understand that he had a issue with "low aukad" girls.. and he did not want to be like his dad...so it was never about his ability to love a person that he knew well....he was fairly fond of Akash, mami, mama, nani and even Shyam yes, Di was understandably the center of his existence....
The graph of change in the man was illustrated from the time he met Khushi. Yes, the fact that he put the two in different baskets was evident....but the convergence was kind of glossed over becos the issue of conflict was never brought fully to the fore. They never dealt with it well..becos the RTR for ASR was never accomplished
I don't know if it was intentional or the CVs chickened out...
Having said that I completely agree with Opti tat ASR's intelligence was overstated.....
Delete
DeleteRekha,
A hero's intelligence is only as much as that of its script writer or Story writer's.
I remember in Geet, maan used to keep saying, Dekho main kya KARTA hoon to the main antagonist, nayantara but finally never did anything. She was always smarter. Somebody should have called the bluff sayng okay, I want to see what you can do. Nobody ever did. Close circuit cameras were installed but never ever used to catch the culprits.
Intelligence and smartness of the hero's are just that, words on paper, they just fly away with the gust of the wind after the first 9 months when the budget gets over.
Usha..gud one....my issue was not with ASR not using his grey cells in that phase when he saw Khushi and Shyam together..i was all ready to accept a lockdown of faculties then...but the continued lack of any proactive steps after slapgate really irritated me...khair ab kya fayda...
DeleteRekha, Sri,
DeleteI think ASR and RK's characters are similar. But yes RK is more of a bad boy hero - incorrigible yet unrepentant.
The difference is in the way they are showing the softening of the man towards the female. RK is shown to really do it through actions.
Yes that mallik waala scene where he hides what he knows so she is not hurt was very sensitive. Even the small ways in which he shows her he knows her and helps dispels false notions people try to spread about Madhu are very nice.
So yeah script really rules the day. Well PH like 4L is more about chemistry so they do mess up script eventually.
Like I said I see MB and wonder how it would have been to have such a phase in Arnav Khushi's life especially as GH writes for both. It would have been so hayyee!!
And yeah I think 4L and LM's interviews are al massively overrated. Even GH for all his rants is not as bad as the above.
Plus get a feeling that where other channels aim for diversity, Star wants to reach out to all kinds of audiences by just harping on the female lead. There is a promo at the time the logo launch happened that I had actually liked. A very conscious branding exercise.
Perhaps they never added IPK to the usual rishta wahi soch nayi promos, the city wise meet and all because tehy knew it was a separate thing and always had more int'l appeal than national. Or simply cos PH was shooting back to back :P
Sandy,
DeleteIt has been my hunch all along that IPK was positioned differently within their basket but they seemed to want to replicate their model on to IPK as well.....something like when a gud thing runs,u want to see it can be mass produced.....make it everything to everybody kind of philosophy....but their plans may not factored until much later that IPK will be diff for n reasons.....
Sandy,
ReplyDeleteA couple of points I wanted to draw attention to:
Su mentioned progression in the shows of PH. She mentioned it in the context of how evovled the heroines in each progressive show which I did not agree with but there is one area where the PH has shown progression. This is in including those tracks that they wanted to have in their earlier show but could not for some reason. There was a talk of a live-in track in Geet. We never got to see it although Geet lived in Maan's guest house for some time. We got that in IPK. So now (if the sypnosis is right) we may get a divorcee's remairriage.
You had in an earlier post mentioned that this PH just eases out a character if the actor leaves. Not necessarily. In Geet, both Dev (the main antagonist till Gul decided to forgive him) was replaced as was the Dadima (although her replacement was done fairly early on). I think if the channle had not forced them to hold on to BS they may have replaced him back in Feb.
thanks everyone for the warm wishes :D
ReplyDeletejaya ... uncomfortable initials ... rofl !!
J, yes RD are not divorced. Rashid does not have haq either, wrote my point above .... its Dilshads to give.
Mona, its not mandatory agreed but a logical conclusion by the couple is needed, that is when its in open Dilshad has to accept Shirin. That does not seem the case. Whatever the reason is Dilshad walked out and Rashid stayed with Shirin - he has no right whatsoever to go all hubbie on Dilshad, again unless Dilshad is fine with it.
So it comes down to Dilshad accepting Rashid. As much as I know of Gul Khan she will leave no stone unturned to disrespect a woman. A man who left her without any word for 17 years to be accept just because he was forced (?!?!?!) for the second marriage ... BLAH !!
Oh yea, if a man has 2 wives at the same time he should be the one supporting both the families financially. It should be in a manner if 1st is allocated 1 kg rice for the day, 2nd wife should be provided with the same. If 1st have 100g of gold so should be the second wife's. It also says about the time spent with them. If 4 days of week is spent with first wife ... next week he is to make sure he spends 4 days with the second wife. Bottom line - Everything should be equally divided between 2 wives in a manner that none EVER feels let down. And the biggest of all the clause is - The man has to have the finance to support both the wives. Not the case here.
What disgusted me more is ... they live in a city close by where all the sisters go in the same college. Both the brothers meet. Both families are in business - yet Rashid din't meet the family or provide it with a single penny for 17 years, whoa. He is one lucky b****** to have such wonderful kids and wives.
Mona I will look up for the staying away clause again. I remember reading about Kalma has to be repeated if they decide to get back together.
I am actually disgusted with Gul Khan. How low does she want women of her shows to be portrayed??? I don't know why I expected it to be different but still did, so its difficult to accept.
Again like Opti said she have made mockery of the biggest kind with ArHi marriage. I din't have any idea of Hindu marriage so I guess I had no problem. I have grown up seeing Hindu marriage in BW and mostly Indian TV as something possible with as simple as putting sindoor on someone, that to anywhere not necessarily mandir. So for me ArHi marriage was complete. As I am aware of things here at QH .. I can't tolerate it.
Again if Rashid was shown to be clean - that is NOT the bechara, it could have been something to watch. There are families which stay together. I know of one where the man married because first wife could not bear child and she herself wanted him to get married. Her point - why should he be deprived of his own blood because of her. He married and within 2 years of the marriage both the wives mothered child. They live like one joint family. No differences. Even if they have its not for people to see.
Oh there had already been a PH post at QH forum saying why aren't all of you picking up the hints and discussing and analyzing.
4Lions &Gul Khan - IPK jesa pagal fandom dubara na milega.
Sama, agree with you. Gul seems to be having an inferior complex and she leaves no stone unturned to show her leads low. In Geet what pissed me off was Geet fights with everyone in the family for the sake of her unborn child and struggles alone. Had Gul shown that Geet has the baby and stays alone being the single mother and maybe afterwards Maan marries her, I would have applauded her. But she showed miscarriage in the most gruesome manner and on top of it they showed that Geet forgives Dev the person who raped her and took advantage of her, I was so done with Geet. There was no premise in the show left and from that time onwards till the show closed shop, it was a horrible torture to watch the show and even Maan-Geet couldn't hold it for me.
DeleteComing to IPK, at least they showed Khushi to be strong and fiesty but then the slow character destruction was horrible. Khushi's character was killed when she forgave Shyam even after what all she did. In the end we never got any justice for Khushi. The only reason IPK was hit was due to the chemistry between Khushi and Arnav.
And now I won't be surprised if they show the first wife forgiving the husband even after the husband leaving for second wife. So better to stay away from her serials when I know I am going to be pissed off by her female characters.
And I agree with you Sama, I think 4Lions and Gul Khan will pretty much understand that IPK jesa fandom dubara nahi milega. She had a golden chance to create a cult 1show but she completely missed the bus.
Sama, I am very amused that the PH is actually posting on the QH forum asking them to discuss the show! Hope they now realise what they have lost in IPK.
DeleteDia, Did they post anything ? I couldn't find it in QH forum. Can you paste it here. Funny now seems like they want people to decode their shows when they used to hate it for IPK. And I do hope the writer is not the one who swears on his mother. Just post the damn link. I need some laughs.

Our old friend Ms. Varma who irritated me with her Barun bashing- as helpful as ever!

Very interesting! Who is Mary Barton? And Nishi calls her doods!

Ms Varma asks Doods about Tanths...the plot thickens...
I saw this last week, I thought I'll just watch out..Mary Barton has shut up after the last post. So this means Doods was a part of the spoiler gang too?
tut..tut..Gul! What all happens right under your nose? aapko pata nahi?
Sigh.. It irritated me to no end that these people have not learned from IPK- I hope the QH forum stays the same...
DeleteSu,
Mary Barton is not Doods. That is not her style of writing. I have read her wiring right from the GHSP FORUM.
Marybarton was in the IPKKND FORUM And I used to see her name for different posts and stories etcetera.
Verma woman is confused and trying t act familiar, that is all.
Verma woman belongs to the PH and she is the biggest Gul contact I think.
Doods does not write FF's :-)))
I agree with Usha Su. Doods and Tants were the ones who used to do analysis and reconstruct the story in layers. Both got very pissed off with the story of IPK after remarriage that they are not around IF, I think. Marybaton writes FFs and I think she is KSG fan.
DeleteVerma woman belongs to the PH and she was the biggest Gul defender when she was on IPK forum. She was the one who told the reason IPK was in mess due to Gul's insistence that QH take the 8pm slot on Star plus and after that she was forced to lie low for sometime because she unintentionally gave away the real reason for the off screen drama. I think now the PH and Gul wants to see the response for QH and hence are sending her again to the forum.
Hmm this means the show has not taken off as they expected. Anyway another 10 days and the TRPs will be out. So we will know.
Dood's IF name is Doodle. Just checked one of the past IPREDUX threads and found out. If someone has time just read the first post of this thread.
Deletehttp://www.india-forums.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=3167140
This was written way back in August but somehow they pointed the flaws between SP and Channel well and good and also that the story was falling apart from long time. Wish I had listened to them. All the points of no promos and character inconsistencies were there from a long time. It is only that after Sept IPK was a royal mess but the signs of disintegration was there from a long time before.
su, marybarton is not, and never will be, doodle. their writing style is too different. yes, nishi called her doods and she did not deny, that itself shows that mary is a PH plant as well.. because i know where sathya is, and it ain't the QH forum on IF. and if nishi does not know, then i have questions regarding her claims as a PH source.
Deletebtw while folowing your links i chanced upon this
http://www.india-forums.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=2399489
Sarada, I didn't read the post on QH forum ... Sama mentioned it. I haven't been on QH forum since ages, but when I last went, I did wonder at the lack of discussion posts. Funnily there weren't even too many KSG drooling posts.
DeleteWhere is Sathya these days?
Nishi was a PH plant, she tried to defend Gul many times when the Sheetal track was unfolding. I really wonder at this PH - why are they so insecure about their story-telling that they need instant feedback from a forum which is fairly immature in its reactions for the most part? Most people don't wait to watch the track unfold before jumping to stamp it out ... and the spoiler queens planted by the PH make it worse by giving out 'hints' which are obviously trying to gauge audience reactions. And then the PH goes crazy trying to backtrack according to the whims of the fans. Added to that the channel pressure ... I actually feel sorry for the PH!
I did follow Redux for some time, they started off well, but I found them getting too dogmatic about their predictions ... the Shyam's sister story was cooked up out of nowhere, and their disgust when it didn't materialise was silly ... Doods was actually offended about it, whereas in the original sketch of the story, it was always Khushi's past that was linked to Arnav's, never Shyam's ... yet she was so upset that there was no mention of Shyam's sister at all ... I found her reactions really juvenile!
As for their meticulous decoding about numbers ... sorry to say, it made me laugh. Sandy's decoding on numbers was far less esoteric, and was almost always spot on! :))) I'll never forget her prediction on Arnav's return after the kidnapping! Tanthya was far better when she stuck to episode analysis, she did that very well. Once they went into predictions and corn mothers and all that jazz, they lost it completely.
Also the PH never did such in-depth stories as Tants and Doods gave them credit for ... their back stories were all very simplistic and predictable. It was the way they showed them unfolding on screen that made them different. Shyam being Anjali's husband and falling in love with Khushi was known from the initial character sketch, yet there was so much mystery about it ... people even thought he was Khushi's brother. Same way Shyam being the kidnapper was the most predictable thing in the book, yet we all gave the cv's credit for introducing a new villain ... so much disappointment when they didn't ... also because they left so many loops open as to how and why. That is still excusable as the track was never part of the original story ... but wrapping up the BFTP so tamely was not - that was their MAIN story. Whatever the circumstances, BS leaving or not, if they couldn't do justice to their main track, built up over a year and a half, doesn't say much for their creative talent at all.
Dia, I used to love Tanthya's analysis. The way she used to get Greek mytho characters and relate them to Khushi and Arnav was too good. Like she gave the story of psyche for Khushi's love was too good. I used to read some of Dood's post but I couldn't follow her regularly.
DeleteI still couldn't understand what was Shyam's motive in marrying Anjali, coming into Khushi's life and trying to marry her - infact Shyam tried to murder Khushi's father, Anjali to achieve this. So I refuse to believe that Shyam was just a money grabber and a skirt chaser. He was decent enough to Payal. Somehow the story that Doods constructed was good enough given that Shyam does have a reason for revenge from Arnav's family.
The wrapping up of Blast from the past and that too that tamely is something I can't excuse. The creatives build up the track from day 1 and then they close it in 1 episode point blank. I don't care if BS is leaving or was leaving. They could have had an separation for 2 weeks over this past track instead of wasting 3.5 weeks on Sheetal track.
And I can never understand the way this PH wants to work. Do they want the people to go deewana over their shows. If so, then they should be able to handle criticism over the show too. I don't think the creators too understood the characters Arnav and Khushi as much as Tants, Sari and Priya did. And the way Gul was adamant that Khushi will eventually move on in the end shows that she could never understand that Khushi and Arnav were heartbeats joined together. I somehow feel that we the viewers nurtured the show IPK more than the creatives ever did. And now I saw a post on IF saying that Arnav's death and the next track was adaption of 'If Only'. The story of 'If Only' is tragic to the max - hero has premonition that his love will die and eventually he dies saving his love. So here Arnav dies trying to save his love Khushi. That is all okay but Gul maataji wanted Khushi to move on in the end. Can I just say that I am happy that the show ended before this track happened.
One thing is for sure - 4Lions need to know what they want to show for sure and should be able to do it without jumping guns. The way the tracks were started abruptly and then after spoiler givers gave in information and the pressure started, the tracks were abruptly closed. Doesn't say much for their creative talent at all if they themselves are not convinced about what it that they wanted to show.
I went around QH forum - have to say it looks very dead. At least on DMG forum we used to have lot of KSG/Armaan drooling posts and many discussions. Now there are none. So does it mean the serial didn't go on as Gul maataji has predicted. If so then it is hot waters for her highness from now on.
I am trying to be a book person for a while. Anyone have good suggestions. Re-read Irving Wallace 'Almighty' over the weekend albeit a fast paced one. Would love to see this book on serial with some suspense thrown in for a good measure.
Dia, forget the fact that they got sidetracked, i used to enjoy reading the redux... because a lot of the posts were intelligent reviews of the episode, written in usually excellent prose. every flavor was there.. sweet, snarky, nerdy, goth, i used to read the first three pages everyday, and that itself took a lot of time!
Deleteobviously, (as i am here) i love places like that.. where i get to read a lot, and about a thing that follows my interest.. and introduces me to new(to me) concepts & mythology, see how diverse the reviewers were.. a LOT of IPK deewanis, who took the time not just to watch a serial, but to take the time to review it, daily!
so just adding their archive link.. (if anyone wants to revive their IPK addiction) http://www.india-forums.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=2989222
DeleteJaya,
Same here. I never joined ipkknd discussion because of past experiences but loved to read all the posts of the first three pages of redux, SGH, Ragi1ni, and all the other fun posts that got posted which always were fun t read. Some posts of redux I understood, some I didn't but I never connected it to the serial. They are fun reads in any case. Forum reading gives me a good diversion from my bread/butter/jam window. :-)
QH forum has nt attracted any of the fun elements. It is too serious.
Got Dia's link quite late while stalking the SGH once. Did not know opti was posting here. I was wondering where she was.
DeleteSarada,
I so agree. They say fans spoil their story and they can't do without their adulation as well. Why put a spoiler Devi into a forum to create buzz?
The Geet forum used t have a person called LVRAZ, If I remember right, and it was a HE I think. Sometimes I used to wonder if this Nishi woman is that person with a gender change. :-D
I can't imagine people saying 'I am available on PM if u want'. So what happened to their forum32 I wonder. How is it doing?
Usha,
DeleteAgree with you. I can't understand why have spoiler devi's if you are confident on your product. Unless the whole reason of having spoiler devi is to rile up the fandom. That is what I felt Nishi was doing at the end with her posts saying "Fate/destiny and what not". I was not that active on Geet forum. Once Geet lost her baby and she was able to forgive Dev - the story went toss for me. I didn't see Geet from the beginning - thank my lucky stars for that. After IPK started I heard that Geet was their show on Star one and so I just saw Geet on fast paced mode. Once I came to the whole miscarriage and Dev forgiven and be divine - the show was lost for me. So never had chance to actually see any spoilers on that forum.
On IPK forum I felt that the whole Barun leaving - Zee news leaking the papers being put down and the whole fiasco was intentional. There was no need to leak the news that lead was leaving and that too to a 3rd party. Rather Gul could have closed of all the loops and closed the story on a high note. No need to rile up the fandom and Nishi all she did was defend Gul and portray as a victim which needless to say didn't go down well with the intelligent audience. The whole point that Gul couldn't clarify her stand over a press conference and rather have some one support her on IF shows that she is not completely clean. The last 2 weeks Nishi was like 'Gul is innocent/accomdating and Barun left'. Excuse me who wants this sordid details. And surprise of surprise she let out the cat from the bag saying that the whole problem occurred because Gul wanted IPK to close and QH to take its slot. And in the end Nishi wrote a post asking the Fandom to ask for IPK season 2 minus the PH. I am not sure if she was being sarcastic.
Unless this PH knows how to operate and deliver their products, they are going to be in a big soup. IPK survived only due to the chemistry between BS-SI. I don't see that happening on QH.
Anyways ... enough said !! Unki naiyya unhe mubarak ho!! I am back to my 10 mins surfing.
ReplyDeleteDia when are you going to start discussion posts on Rabba Ves and scenes you like ??? I am eagerly waiting :D
Sama - could so hug you right now - when i posted my comment - i was kicking myself for having missed out two important points and as was busy, could not write another one - and i open the blog - and you have said what i had missed!!! Hi5 sis!
ReplyDeletejust to add to our gyan bat-ing on Islamic marriages :D - Samam is right - the husband has to be extremely careful of dividing his resources, time, and attention to all wives equally! he will have to stand in front of God on the day of Judgement and prove that he did that!! Plus it says very clearly in the Quran (after the part saying how equally a man has to treat his wives) - that you will not be able to do so, so keep away - (this is not a quote - just a gist of what it says) So going back to what i said about practice - this is one of those things, permitted NOT promoted! (reasons for permission were things like not having children, number of widows skewing boy girl ration as wars and famine were common then and so on)
Will also add here that a nikah is a contract between two individuals and both can keep conditions = therefore if a lady was to have the condition that her husband will not marry again, she can! (very like a pre-nup - except that this is not pre-wedding, this IS the wedding contract!) - AND to clarify, if a spouse breaks the vows, divorce does not come automatically but the points can be used as grounds for divorce!
Su - I agree that Gul is just telling a story but i also agree with Rekha - as an audience you can be fence sitter but as a writer, you cant - so you either choose to play along stereotypes or say facts (stereotypes by their very definition mean they are not facts!) - So as an educated woman, and a person who has taken cliched M&B stuff and turned it into an iconic IPK - i do expect her to not fall prey to stereotypes.
i once joined an organisation that was all about secularism and youth awareness and so on - i was really happy as this was so what i wanted to do - but i quit in a month simply coz their understanding of secularism was not mine - though not openly, their subtext in movies made fun of all religious people (hindus and Muslims)by saying how silly are these people were for they were looking towards God instead of Human for humanity! (in a very crude and short sentence)
- that to me was not the right definition of secularism - arre apni dair (1 & 1/2) eent ki masjid banee bhi to kya faida - the beauty of our country has been its mix, its ability to respect religions and cultures, its ganga jamuni tehzeeb!
sorry for bugging you guys with all this but i guess this is an occupational hazard!
My posts getting swallowed up...
ReplyDeleteMona,
I am totally with you on the def of secularism. It is about respecting all religions and accepting each person as they are.
'looking towards God instead of Human for humanity': comes under atheism for me.
Conphussed (as usual) with your and Sama's elaborate explanations. But I think I got the gist- Thank You both.
I have one (actually 3)simple question.
A man has made a mistake. He is after all human. He regrets the decision he made years ago- he knows he was UNFAIR to his first love. And he loves her still and knows she pines for him too.
Yet he cannot leave his second wife- she cannot exist without him- leaving her would be cruel.
Islam allows a man to keep two wives.
1. Now what should the man do in order for his first love to forgive him and complete what destiny seems to have written for them?
2. What is it that he should he do for God to forgive him?
3. Will Allah bless the union and allow him to keep both the wives regardless of his sins in the past?
Mona and Sama,
ReplyDeleteI am enjoying your input on the reality of Muslim customs, so keep that discussion ongoing please. There is so much we don't know, and so much misinformation ... even if I don't watch the show, your posts are fascinating.
I echo Su's questions ... what if a man makes a mistake, and then repents for it? How can he make up in a way that is fair to both wives?
Another thought struck me from the discussions here - I haven't watched the show in so much detail ...
Zoya says she lost her mother at age 3. Is she around 20 now? So her mom's death also occurred 17 years ago, around the same time that Rashid separated from Dilshad? Are the two events interconnected? I've read speculation that Zoya's father is Shireen's tyrant brother, and that brother was responsible for separating Dilshad and Rashid. But if he's Zoya's dad, then he too had a second wife, right - Zoya's mom? Or did he hide his second wife from the first?
dia, after reading the referrals here, checked the QH forum.. and found this:
Deletehttp://www.india-forums.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=3273066
fanmade post, but lays out the basic character sketch as we see it now!
sorry for double post, but forgot to add.. zoya can be related to humeira.. but i guess that bftp will begin only after one year :D
DeleteQuick thoughts, unfortunately I have lots of things to bak bak about, but Time is doing ramanchi on me, koi baat nahin, jitna hai ussay kaam chala lengay, lol.
ReplyDelete1. Why are people trying to get sarun together, duhhhhhhhhhh!!! Sanaya and Barun both are perfectly capable of finding their own jobs, thank you very much.
2. I am rooting for Sanaya Viraf Now, Shiddat to that!!!
3. Ek tha Tiger is a Must watch.......enjoyed a hindi movie after a loooooooong time, Have I mentioned this earlier don't remember, but the best part for me was seeing Lallan for a two minute role and getting all excited and watching Hubby's WT expression*Rofl*
4. psarada: WOAH!!!!!!! That was MY post on IP Redux, you liked it*asking with a big grin*
5. Dia, nothing, just wanted to give you a biiiiiiiiiig hug for this place*Hugs*
MB bak bak:
1. I have just watched a couple of random scenes and are they nuts for dragging KC for sooooooooooooo looooooooooooong and a moon that looked like blue balloon?
2. I know the producers have money but did they really have to thopofy so much make up on DD?
3. RK is sleepwalking his role this week especially the romance ones, the one where he is arguing with his family, he is slightly better.
4. Was RK wearing the Sobtiwala SPA awards White Coat/sherwani whatever it is called?
5. RK calls Bhatiya nautanki company blah blah for pretending to be concerned when they wanted her to be thrown out - DUHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Bhaiyyaji forgot that some hours ago, he told MB that he wouldnt care if she starved, she is not his asli biwi, then why does he calls her biwi, why is he calling her bahu of the house, or fighting for biwi right.
Bhaiyyaji is a bigger nautanki, atleast he gets to paid for his nautanki since he is an actor in the show.
6. Dips Rocks, BAS!!!
7. They should hire Hitesh for dialogues and Arsahd for romance scenes, this director falls flat when it comes to directing romantic scenes or is bhaiyya afraid of honay wali real life biwi who monitors his acting on the sets, jo bhi ho, takes away the fun from watching the show.
8. The whole family comes in and does not NOTICE the great wall of Pillows on the bed*rolls eyes*
9. Best scene - The glass breaking scene during the KC drama, all the actors had an expression that conveyed, Oops, I hope this does not come out of my salary.
10. Bhaiyyaji's thanda reaction on seeing a daag on his face when lesser mortals would have been hyper about it:
a. Bhaiyyaji trusts his make up man/woman
b. Bhaiyyaji has no clue mehendi is green in colour.
c. Bhaiyyaji makes sure to get his mom a good synthetic hair coloring dye.
Bas, enough bakwas from me:)
Shwethu....
DeleteBas tu aa gayi aur cha gayi....HUGS....
I have to watch MB just for u.....and esp watch Bhaiyyaji
Shewtha,
DeleteSo you are the one I used to read in IP REDUX thread. *Hugs*. Your posts were awesome. So nice meeting you here.
I agree with you Shewtha on MB bak bak. I tried to give it a chance but it fell flat for me.
Cons :-
1. Vivian doesn't look the part of a superstar. Simple as that. People used to complain about Barun not looking a Business tycoon but that was much later in the show. At least Barun look a dynamic business tycoon for the first 10 months. Vivian doesn't look like a superstar and sorry to say his clothes were not that great. I agree the sherwani he wore for KC seems to have been recycled from SPA attire of Arnav. He needs to have better wardrobe and better attitude if he has to look the part of a superstar.
2. Dhrasti was flat. No 2 questions on that. She has pretty doe shaped eyes but somehow her pathos couldn't move me. Sanaya could move me when Arnav goes to London before kidnapping. Dhrasti just couldn't nail the performance of a longing wife as much as Sanaya did.
3. Rest of the cast were average. I never like vamps so no opinion on the actress playing Deepali.
4. I don't understand the whole point of Madhu eating Sargi which was thrown in dustbin. Fine they could have shown that Deepali left the Sargi untouched and Madhu ate it because it is part of tradition - to eat Sargi before starting of the fast. I didn't understand why you should throw the Sargi in dustbin and why Madhu had to take it out from dustbin and eat it. Didn't sit at all well with me. If this is some kind of glorifying women and the extremes they go to follow the traditions, then sorry it is disgusting to the max. I couldn't even sit and hear the dialogues - wonder how the actors mouthed them. Total satyanash for me.
4. No one seems to see the wall of pillows on the bed. Strange.
5. Vivian can't say "Shhh" as sexily as Barun does. Barun's "Shhh" and "Tum Theek Ho" have to be patented. He nails them hands down.
6. The Dori tying sequence didn't have any sparks for me IMO. I was comparing to the dori tying sequence during the Mehendi rasam of Arnav - Khushi. Felt the chemistry was so-so and not breath-taking as BS-SI had.
7. Biggest grouse I have is with the writers here. Either declare RK - Madhu are husband and wife or declare they are not. What is this whole 'chaar phere waali biwi" concept. For the creatives kind information some regions don't have phere - they have mangalsutra and sindoor. You mean to say all those people are not married. I know you want to take my liberties for dramatic elements but poking fun at our culture and traditions is so not cool. Either Madhu-RK are husband-wife or they are not. Stop mouthing this 'Chaar phere waali biwi" dialogue ASAP.
Pros:-
1. Sets were awesome. But please there is no need to have too much make up on the actors/actress.
2. Once in a while get the whole cast to have some decent conversation and involve the whole cast. Else very soon the serial will head the IPK way.
3. Even though the KC track is good, please get over it. It has been 1 month since the actual festival happened in real life and you people are still dragging it. Finish it and move on to the other parts of the story.
All in all, the serial didn't quite excite me much. So probably will see this week and decide. Mostly will skip it.
ReplyDeleteShwetha,
Loved your bak bak.
I really think the whole unit has been given one month off. After one month sanaya viraf will come back and they will say due to popular demand 'return of ASR'.
What was viraf doing shooting for. 1.5 months.
Then I really have to gve award to 4 lions creative team because viraf was gazing into sanaya's eyes for 1.5 months and they had so much of story to shoot whereas here they telecast cut t cut. Today sbs gets telecast either same day or next day without any bank.
They can't let 1.5 months of gazing go waste na.
So you will definitely get to see it somewhere sooner or later. :-))))))))
BAS keh diya.
usha, we should start a petition ;)
Deletenow that we know that 4L knows how to upload youtube videos (exhibit 1: barun interview) i really wish they'd upload some of the extraaa shots/scenes that did not make it into the episodes.. because i'm pretty sure they shot many tracks without showing them... and SP owns only the completed aired episodes (i think)
Devi Maiyya, SHIDDAT!
shwethu, i agree dips ROCKS. and madhu's overmakeup is losing her fans.
i'm adding to your SHIDDAT for saraf. at least one terimerilovestory with them?
usha, sbb/sbs does not need banks.. there is only a narration with a compilation of videos from various shoot locations.. not difficult, there is not much acting value.. more news value. so they only have to edit and show..there is more a handycam feel to their shows, and that is what the audience want!
DeleteJaya,
What I meant by sbs was that what they show in sbs as 'on the set' gets telecast in the episode the same day or at the most the next day. So that means they hardly have any banks of episodes.
So having 1.5 months of shooting of Saraf requires immense planning and keeping it top secret from sbs and sbb as well, almost like nuclear missile programme.
