When MJHT wound up, I was writing an FF on Samrat-Gunjan. The show had gone downhill after Rati's return, I had lost interest in it, and was completely ready for it to end. After it ended, I continued with my FF and kept waiting for news of Sanaya's comeback. I wound up the FF the week IPKKND started not exactly by design ... it just happened that way!
So now I start a new journey ... IPKKND Rewind, with the hope that by the time I reach the second marriage, Sanaya will be back on screen., or earlier if possible ... she is much more popular now than she was after MJHT, so I hope the gap is smaller! The first whispers of Sanaya's return started in March 2011. Let's see when we get news this time.
In the meantime ... Rewind to June 2011

Scenes I loved -
The first Dori scene ... even when writing the update, I couldn't describe it. Scene has to be watched, words can't do it justice. The rapid-fire exchange between Arnav and Khushi started from the very first encounter. A scene I can watch again and again ... especially the way Arnav breaks the dori and Khushi defiantly loosens her hair to cover her back, and turns to gaze at him with that mixture of defiance and anger ... runs away ... and he lets her go. From the very first episode, it hurt him when he hurt her. She got under his skin from the start.
The first Jalebi making scene - with the precap, I thought it would be about Khushi wanting to commit suicide. And then we were introduced to the most unique trait of Khushi - her stress-buster making jalebis! Loved Shashi babu's words to Khushi - dil ke rishte khoon ke rishton se badhkar hote hain'.
The dargah scenes and the confrontation there. Clash of ideals and beliefs ... the first challenge. Arnav had decided to bury the fashion show disaster - he changed his mind after the clash, and set into a motion a series of events that changed their lives for ever. So did he change their destiny with that one act? Or was that meeting at the dargah pre-ordained ... if they hadn't met at the dargah, he would not have released the pictures ... and they would never have met again.
Shyam entered, and the girls moved to Delhi with Buaji. Just noticed that Khushi had her trademark way to deal with lafangas already in place in the first couple of weeks of the show .. by calling them 'bhaiyaji'.Note the meeting with the autovaalah.
The second clash - scooty with car ... and the first time I appreciated Barun's acting He took a week or two to get into the skin of ASR. Their arguments were already showing the strong chemistry and the sparks.
My comment then - not so much a clash of opposites - more a clash of two strong, stubborn personalities, similar in nature, but with opposite ideologies.
Arnav's character was cemented further ... he respects his sister, his Nani ... but does exactly what he wants to do.
Khushi got a job in AR warehouse with Shyam's help.
Inane comedy was already making its presence felt but in moderation. And I had already started grumbling about Barun's mumbling!
Arnav and Khushi clash in the carpark ... the first torn dupatta. He asks her, which idiot gave you a job ... That would be you, Mr. Raizada.
24/6 was the first What The Arnav and Khushi meet in the office and they both realise he is her boss. Under the table.
27/6 - the first challenge - Office 15 days - You quit, you pay me 1 lakh. I fire you, I pay you. The first time (of many) Arnav didn't allow to Khushi to walk out when she fully planned to. The first challenge ... designed to make her stay. The first character analysis of Arnav from me.
Beauty and the Beast Round Two
Arnav had already started keeping his encounters with Khushi very private ... about the only thing he didn't tell his sister. The Payal-Khushi scenes were picking up, Payal the sweet, caring older sister, who was really shocked at the huge mess her impetuous younger fire-cracker sis had got herself into!
On the whole, wasn't too hooked to IPK yet ... the intensity was sporadic, and there was too much inane comedy. The first week was good, the second and third weeks were disappointing. The last week of June started picking up, but on the whole, I was still watching mainly for Sanaya, and hoping she wouldn't go the Nupur way (I disliked Nupur intensely!)
Best scenes from June - undoubtedly the first Dori scene, and the clash at the dargah.

Dia,
ReplyDeleteThis is an excellent idea.
I do hope your intuition on San's comeback comes true- the sooner the better.
I was not watching the show then.
From what I have seen in YT, (I started with the vegamze guy's love scene 1 and from there I think prety much the journey has been captured well)- yes, the dori and dargah scenes were best. The dori especially, Gul mentioned how many times they re- took the scene and how it was considered very dark by the channel. And she also mentioned that was her favorite scene.
The office scene where ASR lets her fall- Barun's favorite scene!
In my case, I saw many June episodes in retrospect after being intrigued by the drama building on the "coming to delhi" episodes and the rain hug which actually happened in july....so i have to tell one aspect of July episode to be able to tell why i went back to check on the epi of June.....
ReplyDeleteI had seen a couple of promos (not the fourth)...and i thot wow, San has got main lead...gud for her...the guy looked arrogant in the promos and i thot...teekh hain..kuch khaas nahin....arrogant guy meets girl and then he changes....maybe i will watch my usual quota of 20-30 epis and move on.....
Unfortunately the first few shot of IPK that i saw in June during the surfing was of the precap that Dia mentions above....kerosene shot....so just like Dia mentioend, i thot oh god, why a suicide attempt and obviously never tuned in the next day to check what happened
It was in end-June, i had seen some snippets of Khushi in the off and Arnav throwing her off the first floor and i was repulsed by the shot bt i guess what followed caught my interest in respect of her coming back strongly but still not enuf for me to commit to watching it at the regular time, i was still the surfing kind...for that 8 to 8.30 slot....
What caught my attention was the rain hug episode....i did not know what preceded the shot and I will describe my emotions of that episode in the July epi rewind but suffice to say that the rain hug nailed it for me....I did not know then that i could watch all the episodes online but since i was travelling, i ended up looking online for news on the serial as i was going to miss the mahaepisode...one thing led to another and i came to know of the fourth promo and the write ups and also how to watch episodes online....well so the journey began.....
for me all the scenes that Dia mentioned are obviously a stand out (the dori and dargah) but also some other scenes which i will list below
1) it gave a glimpse of the arnav who was generally a sourpuss around people and he used to be a bit sarky wit his sis as well...( his digs at her for when is her husband and coming and getting her) so i thot there is angle to this man and a sis even tho a thalbhakt had a funny bone....i don't like saccharine bro-sis scenes...i find them too filmy....However i was able to appreciate the bro-sis scenes in IPK simpy becos of the baggage these two apparently shared.
2)I genuinely thot that Nani would be a strict person so i was surprised at the way her role changed over the period. In fact i thot, there would come a time when Arnav will be forced to stand against her....
3)Since I watched the june episodes after seeing the 4th promo and reading web writeups, i thot for a little while that Khushi and Arnav may have a bro-sis connection...(silly me...i was thinking along the lines of the movie Mandi.Smita patil and aditya bhattacharya and ofc dismissed it as soon the thot came in my head) bt remained intrigued on what would be the connection....
I also loved the scene where Akash says the girl and not the dent on his car seems to have affected Bhai for the first time...( can't remember the exact dialogue)
Rekha..the dialogue is
Delete"Us din wali ladki hai kaun, jisne gaadi se zyada Arnav Singh Raizada ke dimaag pe dent kar diya"
its one of my favourite scenes too!! love the dialogue..perfect for the situation!! :D
Ani...yeah yeah...now i remember....
DeleteIn fact, i saw tis in retrospect so i saw it with new meaning then....
I am eagerly waiting for the July reind...becos for me IPK moved in July ( i watched all the epis from te start to rain hug scene after i watched the rain hug) in fact i had an enormous amont of packing for my travelling to do but since i discovered the online link i was just glued to it....
Arnav Anjali had some superb dialogues ... the teasing ones. Usually Arnav to Anjali -
DeleteDi, tum din per din Nirupa Roy banti jaa rahi ho ... when Anjali tries to talk about moving on from their past.
The teasing about Jijaji not wanting to take Anjali back because he wants some peace.
There was one dialogue when Arnav is in the car on his way to office and Anjali calls, he says something like - I was wondering, no drama from you today, something is missing.
The Akshay dialogue about the dent in bhai's dimaag ... I remember that too! Such good dialogues they had!
Does anyone remember much later Akash asks Arnav, bhai what happened, you look very happy today, and Arnav smiles and says, nothing, just a good day. It was after the marriage and kidnapping, I think Arhi had just made up after a fight and been all lovey-dovey. That smirk was damn good ... like both brothers knew exactly what he meant :)))
" you look very happy today, and Arnav smiles and says, nothing, just a good day"
DeleteThat was right after the bed breaks and Arnav teases Khushi about SR. (I think!) I miss IPKKND.
Thanks, Enkay, I was trying to remember, now I shall go back and re-watch!
DeleteYep the dent waala dialogues was so cool as were the Arnav teasing Anjali scenes. I recall after shooting star he tells her Di, I'll go now warna meri saansein ruk jaayegi :)
DeleteAnd yep the all good was teh morning when Arnav woke up wished Khushi a good monring after collecting his suitcase and reminded Khushi ki aaj raat humaari suhaag raat hai :)
ReplyDeleteI saw from the first episode itself and actually in addition to the much discussed arnav and khush, I also loved Mami's dialogues and her protection of Anjali when everybody was asking about her husband not attending the pooja.
For me, Mami was an integral part of the IPK story with wonderful dialogues.
For me too, Usha.
DeleteIt was Manorama mami's dialogues that made me sit up and really notice this show. Till then, Arnav and Khushi were just two good looking actors ina predictable romantic comedy.
The way mami was written made me realise there were some good brains behind the show.
And I decided it was safe to invest my time in this show- it was like watching a movie. I love comedy and romance and this was a healthy blend of the two with just the right amount of drama.
I recall one where she tells Anjali - "Tabhi to hum sochat rahe ki Arnav bitwa ke choice ko kahin fever toh naahi lag gaya" - There was this mixup about the Lavanya in his life and the Lavanya that came home and Anji and the rest were hiding it from Nani. But anyways jab baat nikli toh ASR ne seedhe seedhe sach bol diya.
DeleteIn my six years of watching hindi soaps, IPK is the only serial I watched fom start to finish without missing a single episode - it felt like marriage - for better or worse. Kayamath and Geet, the other two shows I had watched up to the end despite the trash they gave us were shows I started to watch from between. I'm not having much of withdrawal symptoms because I watch my favourite jodi on my tab on my work and back.
ReplyDeleteWhat capitvated me was Barun's soulful eyes which expressed so much more than words could. Although I liked Khushi's character from the beginning and liked Sanaya's acting, I didn't think much about her looks. I now find her quite attractive. Her looks grew on me.
Besides the hot jodi who clicked from scene 1 at Sheesh Mahal, I loved the bond between Khushi and Shashi and Khushi and Payal.
Opti,
DeleteThe eyes - it seemed as if they were my windows into the souls of Arnav and Khushi. And that is why I guess even when they spoke so little so much seemed to have been said.
June is a month I saw in retrospective. I was not on scene till Sep. I knew they were going to launch it. Mum was watching BALH at that time and I fed her internet news bits on that while listening to Shreya Ghoshal sing the title song. They both began on the same day so I noticed the name of this one. I had no hopes of Star showing anything but a saas bahu serial :P
ReplyDeleteFrom IPK an abiding memory of this month is the dargah scene because of the song Arziyan from Delhi 6 sung by Javed Ali and Kailash Kher picturized on the leads.
I like the song and it has been picturized simply yet well in the show. They focus on these 2 people who seemingly need to have their destinies repaired and set right, especially him and just then she walks past with her dupatta brushing across his face. She an angel in white and he a devil in black yet with that hint of white in the form of kerchief he ties around his head. She very chirpy and bubbly while he looks troubled, an ocean of pain in his eyes.
As the song plays out they both walk on either side of the people carrying the green cloth (sorry not sure if they have a name) passing the qawwals.
As I look at it again, I notice how the camera shifts between them depending on what plays.

Arziyan saari main, Chehre pe likh ke laaya hu
Tum se kya maangu main, Tum khud hi samajh lo
Ya maula.. maula maula mere maula..maula
Maula maula maula mere maula
Darare darare hain maathe pe maula,
Marammat muqadaar ki kar do maula, Mere maula..
Tere darr pe jhuka hu, mita hu bana hu
Tere darr pe jhuka hu, mita hu bana hu
Marammat muqadaar ki kar do maula
Jo bhi tere darr aaya, jhukne jo sar aaya,
Mastiyaan piye sabko jhoomta nazar aaya
Pyaas leke aaya tha dariyan wo bhar laaya,
Noor ki baarish mein bheegta sa tar aaya,
Noor ki baarish mein bheegta sa tar aaya
Hooo ek khushbu aati thi
Main bhatakta jaata tha,
Reshmi si maaya thi,
Aur main taktaa jaata tha
Jab teri gali aaya, sach tabhi nazar aaya
Jab teri gali aaya, sach tabhi nazar aaya
Darare darare hain maathe pe maula,
Marammat muqadaar ki kar do maula,
"Mujh mein hi woh khushbu thi, Jis se tune milwaya"
Given the lyrics of the song what I realize they connect to are:
Tu Hi Bata Mere Maula
Tu Hi Bata Mere Rabba
and
Na Reh Sakoonga Ab Door Inse
Hai Meri Jannat Galiyan Teri
He drops his mannat ki chaabi and she picks it up and call out to him and he turns.
And then after he asks her to throw away his mannat ki chaabi his destiny, she runs behind him asking for trouble :)) I loved her signature tune there and now realize even way back then as he walked forward she moved back. There was also the softer instrumental version of the ASR tune or rather that tempo building tune that came when Arnav and Khushi were together and something was to happen.
There is more I liked especially the various relationships and some really witty and catchy dialogues. The characters looked fresh and not run of the mill.
I watched June epsiodes much later..and liked almost every scene...Arnav-Anjali, Arnav-Akash, Khushi with each member of her family..
ReplyDeleteloved the dori scene, car parking scene, accident scene...list will never end..
as i was watching today..i noticed that in that month Arnav's room was near the hall..and the bathroom was the entrance to the room..ASR & Anjali both walk out of the now bathroom, to enter his room and you can see the hall when Nani comes to talk to them...
the kind of things we notice when we rewatch!!
Sandy..today i figured out that song was from delhi 6!!! i did not even know it was a movie song!! dump me!!! :)
Hahaha .... Dia my first scene I think was jalebi making scene .... I watched bit and pieces of first few episodes ..did I can't remember though. Me too thought it was about her commiting suicide but when she started making jalebis I was rofling.
ReplyDeleteThen came up the scene where 2 bros and 2 sis were talking .... P&P took over me. Two men .... One khadoos and one polite. Two sis .... One who sees good and the other who vouches for all bad there is as far as the nameless man is related. And then comes it Shyaam ....he had to be villain bas pata chal jatah hai par was a nice man. Very gentleman like ....so yea again thought of Wickham.
What got me off track was the video footage drama ....don't like humiliation scene. So turned off. Watched the sari scenes but somehow din't like the usual phati sari traps. I loved dent wala dialogue and Arnavs -jijaji kahan hain unho ne wada liya tha ke woh apko zindagi bar jhelenge. It was fresh. Dent wala dialogue was straight from Mills and Boons.
Anyways loved the takrar scene before dent wala dialogue. I think that's as much for June. Rest must be July stuff.
The Dori scene ... two things I loved about the scene - one was Sanaya's voice modulation. All tv heroines have this propensity to shout or shriek when they are in a fight or argument. Not Sanaya - her voice remains low and controlled, while conveying her fierceness. Khushi starts off pleading, upset, completely apologetic and accepting of her mistake, her entire fibre is concentrated in getting back home in time to save Payal's wedding, and doing all it takes to be able to do that. Even the cross-fire with Arnav doesn't divert her from that, although she never loses her voice, she shoots back answers to his questions as fast as he fires them. The moment Arnav mentions her sister, her attitude changes ... and she fires back with a salvo about HIS sister. And hits his Achilles' heel ...
ReplyDeleteSecond - the thing that was most unique and riveting about Arshi - their rapid-fire exchanges - this was the first one, in the very first episode, and set the tone for their future exchanges. Both strong characters, neither ready to give an inch ... he always emerged victorious in their challenges, and then gave his victory away to her. As in this first exchange ... he was stronger both in power and position and sheer brute force ... yet when she defied him with that action of covering her back with her hair, he allowed her to get away with it.
WHOA!!! so many posts... so many discussions... so much for me to catch up and i have no time at all.... but i'd like to share this VM...
