20/8 - Epi 85 ... Getting Kaumudi Ready

Tuesday 20th August

Seems they are rushing the Mugut Kaumudi track ... exactly what I didn't want ... but in view of the end of the show, it was inevitable, I guess Confused So can we please have a ChhanMan track till the end of the show ... please, CV's?

Small sweet Rakhi segment in honor of Raksha Bandhan as Mansi ties raakhee to her four brothers ...
Manthan apparently always gives her money, and not a gift, to her disappointment. So does Manek. Manav gives her a gift ... and Mansi asks Mugut for her gift ... take Kaumudi bhabhi for the official dinner. Mugut doesn't answer, but he's in a fix ... can't deny his sister her rakhee gift. So he answers Mayuri rather shortly ... much to her concern. Did she make a mistake with her stunt?
They never explained why Mayuri changed her mind and wanted Mugut back. Did Mayur Patel fly away or something? Why did she give up on him? Confused
RanSan also changed their saree style ... and Dadaji compliments Umaben on her changing thoughts ... seems pallu was totally an Umaben decision, neither Babuji nor Dadaji has any problem with the absence of the sacred pallu ...

Rugved and Maithili arrive for Raksha Bandhan ... Maithili tries to corner first Umaben, then Chhanchhan with her questions about Manav ... Manav and Chhanchhan manage to ensure she doesn't get a chance. Maithili worris that Chhanchhan is ignoring Manav in her efforts to look after his family ... ah we had the same thoughts here ... CV's reading our discussions again?
But that seems to be the end of that ... it could have been a cute mini track Confused Wonder if they will take it up again, as it seems they're ending the Mugut track fairly quickly.

Manav and Chhanchhan get busy training Kaumudi for the upcoming dinner ... how to walk and talk Tongue ... and eat and drink ...
Apparently the Ahmedabad Businessmen's Association has a colonial hangover and only appreciates people who can walk English, talk English and eat English ... LOL

ChhanMan scene of the day ... CC in blue nighty ... thank you, cv's ... more of these please Day Dreaming And could we get Manav calling Chhanchhan Jaan again ... he only called her that once, that too in a letter ... want him to say it face to face Day Dreaming

And the day of the dinner is already here ... that was quick! Confused Umaben is worried that Mugut will take Mayuri, and the Borisagar family will lose major face ... seems she hasn't lost that aspect of her thinking yet ... but this one was quite understandable. Though her volte face towards Chhanchhan has happened very fast, but I like this saas bahu relationship much better, so am not complaining too much ... just enjoying it.

RanSan look much better in their new style of sarees, although still rather chamak challo ... Kaumudi is looking very nice in a more understated elegant saree. Liked Chhanchhan's red and white color combination very much too ... very pretty!!! Day Dreaming

So Mugut did finally drop the idea of taking Mayuri, and was forced to take Kaumudi ... considering Kaumudi had already been introduced to his businessmen colleagues, don't know how he planned to explain Mayuri's presence anyway ...
And Kaumudi passes the first hurdle ... walking in heels ... then the next ... shaking hands and saying thanks ... one awkward moment for Mugut when she knows his allergy, and he has no clue as to her favorite drink ...
And onto the final hurdle ... speech in English ...

  1. Dia,

Quite a nasty surprise that the show is ending like this. I don't understand why, since there are so many shows that are not half as good, running for months, regardless of trps...

Read your discussion on yesterday's post...For me, the show never picked up to my expectations of what I had from the PH after SBS. It simply never looked like the same team had made both the shows.Did the PH itself feel something was amiss and hence threw in the towel?

(Housewife in Zee had the same concept...and the bahu there did not waste any time in questioning the saas too..it was much better written, at least in the beginning.)

I am very happy for Sanaya, actually. I wouldn't say she had much to do acting wise in the show(esp since I felt the character was not written down clearly- kept vacillating between comedy and seriousness, whereas Toasty was really more settled) ...but to have a cool job, and get paid with enough free time, and stay in the limelight...things worked out well for her.

Really hope she takes up NB now. Caught the teen ka tadka with DD, and I am not biased when I say I feel Salman and the camera was favouring her more.(sbs)

    2. Su, agree with you about SBS.. :) was always thinking even after the entry of Anuj, that somehow, there is this charm missing in CC..somehow that 'adorable', cute feeling that I got when I watched any..and I mean, any episode of SBS.. I watched the first episode of SBS the other day and I couldnt't help but notice several parallels between CC first episode.. they both started of quite similar..the bond of friends, another friend's wedding..etc. But somewhere, CC lost the charm while SBS still retained it right till the end.. now there might be several faczors to blame for this - the rush by channel leading to incomplete preparation of the PH..and thereby the pathetic choice of a male lead.. all of these factors individually and together lead to the downfall in the first couple of weeks.. the people who began watching the show were mainly Sanaya fans and I guess who continued till the end were also mostly Sanaya fans.. so why did CC not gather any new fans? This clearly means that the writing and screenplay were at a flaw somewhere..

For one, I believe that they made a huge mistake by starting off to show the progression of a love story between their protagonists when that was clearly not their department..add FK's acting skills to it and it was a sure-shot recipe for disaster! I agree this wasn't completely their fault since the channel pushed them to get the show on air and they hadn't thought about how the protagonists would fall in love. I guess the story narrated to both Sanaya and Supriya was after the marriage.. just like it was in SBS .. the story began by showing Tej-Toasty who were already in a commited relationship for the past two years..and the tej-toasty bond was very maturely shown right till the end..just like the CC-Manav bond after marriage..so their strength is mainly in writing a mature relationship..

Secondly, the character of Toasty, as Su said was definitel much better etched out and much more stable I would say...CC was mainly Sanaya's show...she was present aboout 80% of the times onscreen.. and since she has an amazing screen presence one can at times tend to forget what the character is actually doing..much like what happened with Khushi, even though she became quite ridiculous towards the '100 ways to annoy ASR' and 'suicide' track, people still adored here..

CC's character here started off on a good note...but it stayed that way and stays so even now.. too pure and too white..incapable of making any mistake.. not in the sense of a typical bahu..that she definitely wasn't..but in the sense of a perfect and pure person who can never go wrong.. and a stark contrast was Supriya..who was portrayed so black that it looked more like a fight between black vs white than between traditional vs modern, as the concept was promoted..

Since I can account for Sanaya's acting, I cannot say that she couldnt portray the character that was written..so it has to be written the way I mentioned above..same goes for Supriya Pathak..

In the end, what it came to after four months was just 'memorable scenes' and 'cute moments' in the show,..rather than the development of a story per say.. everything seemed a little haphazard and rushed..even at the beginning of the show where CC-Manav get married..which is only an indication of poor writing from the creative team.. and ofcourse, interference of channel ..

The channel should really think twice before doing this again to another experienced production house..not only has the creative technical team suffered, but also the actors, espcially those like Sanaya, who are so dedicated to their projects that they almost marry them for the time being, having no place to include anything else..
