21/8 - Epi 86 ... MugKau over, ChanMan starting ...

Wednesday 21st August

Uh oh ... Chhanchhan's mother wants to do something to save her daughter's marriage!

Kaumudi goes the English Vinglish way ... but does relapse into Hindi quite believably ... don't know why she had to speak in English in the first place, as the other men spoke Hindi! And Mugut bhai sees the light ... what a wonderful biwi he has!
Mayuri enters ... sees Mugut with arm around Kaumudi, sees Kaumudi and Mugut surrounded by family, and she very clearly the outsider ... plus Mugut is suddenly happy with his biwi ... Mayuri sees the writing on the wall and leaves quietly, without making a fuss ... while that part was more believable for a girl like her, leaving without creating a scene, this was another track ended without going into any depth at all.

Babuji has a heart attack ... no ECG, no oxygen, no IV fluids, nothing?!

The brothers immediately start fighting about POA and division ... much to Dadaji's distress and Manav's anger. Chhanchhan tries to pacify Manav ... she's sure he will prove himself to the rest.
So is this a business track coming up?

Dadaji goes and tells Babuji everything about what his sons were arguing about ... really? The man is supposedly recovering from a mild heart attack! Shouldn't he be spared this till he's better?
Seems he is better already, though, because Babuji forgets his angina, and starts plotting himself ... how to choose the heir apparent to his business. That was one quick recovery!

So the challenge is issued ... all the sons have to prove themselves ... not only that, they have to prove themselves as couples, not alone. A challenge for the bahus as well as the sons.

Umaben seems to have lost her throne ... no part in the decision-making process? I thought she was the major domo of the house?

Precap - Chhanchhan decides to look for a job ... Manav is not quite happy about this one.
Have no clue where this is leading!

*edit* Am on the move again, this time back to India :)  Packers in the house so I will not be online the next couple of weeks, will just pop in to post daily takes whenever I can. Will follow Chhanchhan till the end ... if Sanaya can act in it with her usual dedication, with the half baked tracks and poor execution, I can follow her in it till it winds up.

*Edit again* Sanaya in JDJ this weekend on Teen Ka Tadka

  1. Dia, hello hi! i've been MIA for a long time, and managed to watch some tv this week, so just wanted to say hi. now heard that cc is being discontinued, and i can see why... the serial, as it is, seems very unpolished when i compare it to other serials.

it was heartwrenching to see kaumudi ben doing the exact same khushi steps as a modernised bahurani, not because i have sympathy for the character, but because if i see another bahu faltering in high heels, my tv will see some serious harm.

the only noteworthy character in cc is the snarky brother. no offence to sanaya.

happened to glimpse the serial next after cc.. jee le zara.. and was very impressed with the work there.

    1. Lol Jaya ... I think I am totally over IPK in that sense ... if I see similar scenes, it doesn't really bother me so much. I do enjoy watching the re-run when I can catch the episodes ... which has been very infrequent because of my move, among other things ... but IPK is now a very sweet memory, no more. If the new IPK2 had a better actress, I might be tempted to catch it, but I doubt it will catch my fancy, not because of the shadow of IPK, but because the actress is nowhere near Sanaya.

I've been watching Jee Le Zara too, because it airs after CC ... the set up is good there, so are the characters, so far it has given me a strong sense of deja vu with Kal Ho Na ho, especially Delnaaz ... but I agree it is very watchable. Will probably keep up with it for a while and see how it goes ... it has a strong independent heroine, my favorite kind of girl :))) Though I'm not very impressed with SAngeeta Ghosh so far ... she is okay. The guy is irritating, but then he's meant to be!

Am also planning to catch two more shows - Ek Boond Ishq on Life PK, that looks good, and it has Viraf and Vishwajeet Pradhan ... I admire V Pradhan as an actor tremendously after Maryada, and he's doing a very different role there. And the show also looks quite different from the usual.
And I plan to watch Mahabharat on SP .. that's looking good in the promos too.

    2. But all these only after a month ... we move to Mumbai next week, and I am off to the US straight after we move :)))

    3. Hi J,

      Welcome back!

CC- share the same sentiments as you.

Jee le Zara: Didn't quite manage to catch my attention in the five minutes I dedicated to it.

Jodha Akbar is good- manages to impress me, even when I am hooked on to QH.

Hey guys padfoot here.... Guess what... Channel is coming back with season 2 of IPK... Reserving judgement but it doesn't look like it'll be anywhere as good as the original.

    1. Hey padfoot, good to see you here after ages! Yes, saw the promos ... the guy is apparently a decent actor, but the girl is not. But the story line is identical, love-hate, rich guy poor girl ... they will have to be something really special to overshadow the original. I doubt it will be anywhere as good either ... anyone has any idea about the PH?

    2. Hi Padfoot!

Nice catching up with U again...

IPK- part 2: Is already giving the actors trouble from Sarun fans, I gather.

I am willing to give the show a chance, even when I know it will not be anywhere near Arhi's story...I will miss the PH for sure..I agree with Dia that the ML is a good actor..he even resembles Sobti a bit. Dia, this is by the Rajesh (Chaddah?)fellow who praised San a lot. In one of the SBS' San wished him well too.

SP: PKD is the only one that holds my attention now and then...

After IPK, Veera is the only newly launched show that has clicked for me, in the channel.

Among Sony shows: Nandini looks promising...

I found this funny. Sony is trying to give DABH some competition? CC was the 'Saas - Bahu drama' arm, and when that didn't click, they are going for the Social Reformer angle! :D

Zee: Two new shows look interesting- one on the maid's dream and the other on a girl..aankh micholi ...something.

Colors: BV is the only show worth watching. Pammi is made well for that genre(analysis based on a total of 15 min I must have watched here and there.)...MB- ups and downs of Nautanki as usual!

    3. Just a quick reply ... no, this is not by Rajesh Chaddha, he was the Panglosean producer, who co-produced IPK. The producers of IPK2 are Sphere Origins (I think), some Sanjoy Wadhwa ... San did seem to know him, as she wished him all the best for the show.
I was frankly very annoyed with SP's decision to call this IPK2 - different PH, different actors, how on earth does it have any resemblance to the first season at all? Just because it's a love-hate story with identical characters of rich arrogant guy and middle class spirited girl? In that case, MB, QH and a whole host of other shows should also be IPK 2, 3 and 4! Anyway, have got over that annoyance ... the poor actors are already bearing the brunt of SP's decision. If the show is well made, it will do well ... almost all love stories between rich arrogant guy and poor spirited girl seem to do well ... but I personally doubt that Sarun chemistry is replicable by any other set of actors. SaRun were the SRK-Kajol of the TV screen, and to my mind, no other BW actors have managed to replicate the SRK-Kajol chemistry so far ... similarly, neither will any TV actors be able to replicate SaRun. However, they may create their own space ... which is why I feel it was stupid of SP to place that burden on them from the start. Avinash is apparently a decent actor and has his own fan following, so chances were good anyway for the show to catch on.

Anyway I won't be able to watch the show for the next month at all, so am not really interested as of now. For me, so far, a love story is synonymous with Sanaya ... an actress has to be really outstanding to be able to capture my liking the way she has. No other BW actress has managed to do so after Kajol, I think no other actress will manage to do so for a good long time while Sanaya is around. I find no other actress so far has that combination of stunning good looks and sheer talent that Sanaya has, neither in tv or in BW.

Agree with you about PKDH and Veera, I watch both sporadically and they both keep me interested. Veera has become more sporadic recently, partly because I was really busy. Once I'm back home and settled, I will probably catch up again. PKDH ditto ... though I still don't like Pankhuri, but the rest of the cast has enough screen space to make up. I still like Avantika the most!

Zee - plan to watch the maid's story.
Life OK - plan to catch Ek Boond Ishq, the Viraf show. Promo looks interesting.
Colors - BV the only show worth watching - agree on that. Tried Pammi a couple of times, the toilet humor put me off.

  3. Hello,I am new to this..On jee le Zara the dress sense of Sangita ghosh is bad. For a successful business worman she is very badly dressed. She goes for an important meeting with a client dressed shabbily in a what looks like an ancient Kurta with no dupatta and hair falling over one shoulder..come on she is 34 and not 16. She should have a better dress sense.Even her secretary is better dressed..both her Nani and Dadi who stay at home are impeccably dressed.
And what I find not very nice is that nobody helps her..Nani Dadi wait to be served..why can't they help or even make their own tea..Sachi being shown as a superwoman running business, home is not very realistic .
    My two cent worth...
If PH is reading this my request is pl. change her hairstyle which looks unkempt and does not suit her age.

  4. Hi!

Welcome to the blog. JLZ- Duppatta is not a problem for me, since a kurti with jeans is a pretty good work wear for her profession, I felt.

The hair style- I did not find anything great about the actress- and I kind of find everything about the character a bit boring...but, when you are in the Flower Business, I guess there is no dress code.

  5. Hi and welcome to the blog! Do give us your name ... an alias is fine :)

I agree with you about the bit of Nani and Dadi not doing anything at home and waiting for the heroine even for a cup of tea ... that was too OTT, I felt ... she comes back after a full day's work and then gets busy making tea? Just to show that she does everything at home as well as office ... forget about being a bit unbelievable, I felt it was also not very nice to show ... does no one help her at all at home?

Re hairstyle ... I remember Astitva, where Niki Aneja plays the older woman, also a very serious career woman, a doctor and a very dedicated one ... she started off with her hair in a bun, very chic and elegant, and as she fell in love with Abhi, she slowly let her hair down - literally as well! ... and looked much younger and more carefree as their love story progressed. I think the makers lost that opportunity for showing the change in the character. The hairstyle does make her look untidy ... I find myself itching to tie up her hair especially when she is at work. Also I don't find it suitable for any working woman, especially one working with foodstuffs.

  6. Dia,
Thank you for the welcome..I am rani,a housewife with two most adorable teenage grand kids.i believe in women's right to do whatever she wishes but am still quite conversative regarding their dress sense ..for me any lady has to be well dressed and well groomed.I have no problem their wearing jeans, pants ,skirts etc (tho I admit I would draw the line at shorts)but a lady must ALWAYS look neat. And that is why can't relate to Sachi with faded Kurta ,No dupatta and the most untidy hair. She is an entrepreneur and must look like one.Aneat hair style makes all the difference to a lady's appearance
I live alone and watch a lot of TV but seem to like only a few..IPKKND(my favourite ),pyar ka dard, veera and now jee le Zara .and in all except last every female character was well groomed.
Did try EK gear banaungaas I liked the concept of son in law helping his in laws but gave up when the main character starts lying, her parents hide the truth. Etc
Thaindian idol junior is also a favourite these days.
    All the best to you.

    1. Hi Rani, welcome here! I agree with you completely ... especially on a woman (and a man!) being well groomed and well turned out at all times, especially at work. When I was working full time, my hair always had to be pinned back and NEVER fall over my face ... so Sanchi's long untidy hair really bugs me, especially since she deals with foodstuffs ... most unhygienic! I wish they would sort that out, because the concept of a working girl supporting her family is otherwise a very attractive one for me.

IPKKND was my favorite for the same reason (among other reasons!) ... because Khushi was independent, spirited and tried to support her family.

Do keep writing ... nice to see you here!
