19/8 - Epi 84 ... EMA - Work In Progress

Monday 19th August

Why is this show going off air?! It's such a cute show ... will really miss it!!

Revolution in the ranks is sorted out very quickly ... we know why :((( because there's no more time for Umaben's slow reformation. So Umaben has one flashback to her talk with Chhanchhan, tells RanSan that CC and Kaumudi got permission to change their clothes because of majboori, but she gives RanSan permission to change for their own happiness ... because she has seen the light ... umm, she saw that clothes do not maketh the woman, her sanskaar maketh her.  Ranjana is happy, but not yet fully grateful to Chhanchhan. Liked the little touch of RanSan avoiding the issue in front of Umaben, so she asks Chhanchhan directly, knowing RanSan will not tell her out of fear, but CC will.

Guests arrive to invite Mugut for the business dinner, they get impressed with Kaumudi's new improved modern look and talk to her in English. Kaumudi of course doesn't understand a word, and makes a booboo ... Chhanchhan steps in and saves the situation. Mugut gets annoyed again and refuses to take Kaumudi for the dinner, because she doesn't understand English.
Umm, Mugut bhai, the solution for that sort of problem is an English teacher ... not an EMA.

Kaumudi cries ... UB and CC comfort her ... Ub sends her to apologise to Mugut, to calm him down, CC agrees that's a good idea ... and follows Kaumudhi, with UB's permission ... cute UB-CC interaction and one more hug, with UB not quite so disgusted as the last time, and RanSan flummoxed.

CC follows Kaumudi and encourages her to sweet talk Mugut ... Kaumudi almost succeeds, Mayuri steps in with fake suicide ... Mugut and Chhanchhan rush to Mayuri's house, where CC discovers the fake and exposes Mayuri ... Mugut disgusted but Mayuri manages to sweet talk him ...
So is it over or not yet? Not yet, it seems. Kaumudi still has to learn some English.

Finally Chhanchhan manages to reach her room, where an anxious Manav awaits her with the news that his very scary MIL thinks he is the one having an EMA. Chhanchhan most amused, promises she will handle her mom. And her dad ... and her Dadi ... and her brother ...
Very short ChhanMan scene today ... want more tomorrow, but tomorrow is Rakhi.

  1. Hello Dia,

Nice episode again, but can't help feeling upset about the show. Deeya Chopra confirmed the show is ending on Twitter. I watch no other show on desi TV :(

Hoping Sanaya takes up anchoring or something while deciding her next project. At least we will get to see her once a week on television. Colors seem the most keen to rope her in and Star Plus tried to get her to anchor Dancing Superstars and now they want her to participate in NB6.

Hoping she gets a really well written role with a competent team and committed co-actor. It's been quite a roller coaster ride for her over the past year.

Since this show started Sanaya has been surrounded by controversies. Maybe, this break will help her put this mess behind and start something with a fresh mind. Just hope the wait for us is not too long.

Chhanchhan has helped Sanaya in many ways, she got to work with talented actress like Supriya Pathak. I am sure Optimystix is pleased with her professionalism, she always prioritized their show over other money making opportunities.

After this show nobody can complain she does only one kind of genre. Her and Supriyaji' s chemistry has been appreciated. The show might not have got TRPs but her acting got acknowledged.

Finally, Chhanchhan helped Sanaya put some distance between herself and Khushi/IPK. The shadow will be less overpowering the next time, at least that's my thinking.

Despite all this, I will miss the show, the talented cast and especially ChanMan, they are adorable. Wish the PH and Channel had waited till IPL was over, developed the story more and cast Anuj from start, today the outcome might have been different.

  2. Uma,

I echo all your feelings completely. Things could have been very different if the PH and channel both had not rushed into starting the show so quickly ... they had a good basic concept, which they narrated to Sanaya and Supriya, but before they could develop it properly and write the starting scenes well, they were rushed on air. The show had a lot of goodwill, the starting TRPs were the best a Sony show has had in ages, but they just didn't have the script to back it up. And of course, the disastrous male lead issues ... first all the hoohaa about choosing a male lead, then the disaster they finally chose ... CC just got off to a bad start and never recovered fully. They did pull back once Anuj was on board and they worked on pulling back Umaben's characterization too, but it was just too late.

Real pity, because the story and the concept was very good ... FAR better than the likes of DABH which still rule the roost. Being friends with your husband and sharing everything with him, being friends with your MIL and keeping the relationship as informal as possible, so that it can become a genuinely affectionate one, rather than the dominating MIL and timid DIL seen in all the current shows ... these were really refreshing concepts and if done well, CC could have been a trend-setter.

Anyway, no use crying over spilt milk.

Two things I am happy about with Chhanchhan, apart from the fact that we got Sanaya on screen for the last six months :)))
one, that she has tried something very different ... it didn't work, but she gave it a go. And no one has pointed fingers at her acting ... it was uniformly appreciated, she was at par with Supriya Pathak, and that is saying a LOT. So has her professionalism - she gave up JDJ for Chhanchhan ... I agree with you, these things are noticed by channels and PHs alike ... while DD is doing JDJ for Colors, because of channel pressure (I am guessing, because it would be really tough on her to manage a 6 day show as well as JDJ), Sanaya gave it up because of her commitment to her show. So both girls have shown remarkable commitment and dedication to their work ... and this will not go unnoticed. Already we saw Colors and Zee wooing her, inviting her to host their shows, when she has never done a single show for them earlier ... now SP is also on the bandwagon by inviting her for NB6. She has gained this from her stint as Chhanchhan ... also she had worked mainly with the same team in MJHT and IPK, now she has spread her wings to other PHs as well.

    1. And even more important, the other thing you mentioned, I agree again ... she has put some distance between herself and Khushi. Now with BS also clearing (finally!!!) that he doesn't want to come back to TV, and IPK2 coming up soon, hopefully the ghost of IPK and Khushi will be laid to rest, and Sanaya can get on with her own career. If comparisons come up next, they will be more with Chhanchhan than with Khushi ... hopefully!

Sanaya is a very talented actress, a great stage performer, and could be a good host too, as she has great stage presence and speaking skills, and these days a lot of hosting, especially for BW awards is in English ... although her Hindi has improved a lot as well. So the sky is the limit for her currently, as far as TV goes. I hope she is back on TV soon ... but I also hope this time, the show she takes is well written, well thought out, properly prepared and takes its time to come on air after being completely ready. This time no comedy ... she's had her light hearted break after the intensity of Khushi and the Arhi love-hate romance. Now after the light hearted Chhanchhan, I would like to see her in a serious show, not crying and rona dhona melodrama, but a good, well written, mature drama. She would be fantastic! Am already wondering what her next will be like!

In the meantime, again her timing is great ... as I will have almost no time online for the next couple of months! Sanaya seems to time her shows very nicely to allow me my breaks from TV! Although I will really miss Chhanchhan and ChhanMan. I enjoyed the show ... a sensible, intelligent heroine is my favorite kind ... and ChhanMan were really an ideal couple! Don't get many couples on screen like them who actually communicate so well. That's why they never had any major problems between them!
