1/8 - Epi 76 ...

Thursday 1st August

Yenna rascala Mukut bhaiya is having an affair ... with a modern girl! A doctor, at that! Hey bhagwan, what will Umaben say when she hears this?! It's not only Manav who wanted a modern educated girl as his life partner, so did his older brother! It runs in the family, Umaben ... for how long can you stem the tide?

The girl Mayuri seems quite sweet, not a vampish home-breaker type ... wonder how she will turn out. Just hope the cv's don't cut short this track!

The episode - Manav and Chhanchhan get the kids shots done ... and head back.
Umaben reaches the temple where the priest tells her no bachhas, no pujas ... and to be even more helpful, tells her to get a move on ... or the mahurat will end.
I thought Umaben could wake up the sleeping Gods, where did her powers disappear? Can't she stretch a mahurat now?

Umaben prefers to call Chhanchhan and blast Manav instead ... as she can't say anything to Chhanchhan for the moment. Can't ... or doesn't want to ...
Am glad they showed Manav getting into trouble for speaking on the mobile while driving ... good lesson! He should have told his mom that ...

So Umaben merely tells him to get a move on ... Manav tries to speed up ... and gets into an accident.
He almost gets beaten up too ... but Unknown Lady saves him ... she is a doctor and she is perfectly all right ... though her car is not.
So Manav and Chhanchhan take her to hospital ... thereby missing the mahurat deadline ... but of course!

Unknown Lady seems quite nice, not vampish at all ... wonder how she will evolve ... She tells them she's fine and her boyfriend is coming to pick her up.
Manav and CC are relieved, their duty done ... although still worried about mahurats and pujas ... but they really couldn't help this ... considering the lady had saved Manav from being beaten up, they were pretty much obliged to help her out.
Manav goes to pay the bill ... CC goes to buy fruit ... and they both come back to find Unknown Lady and Mysterious Boyfriend chatting cosily together ... Unknown Lady introduced her boyfriend sweetly ... while Manav and Chhanchhan stare shell-shocked at Mukut Bhai. Who stares equally shell-shocked back!

Mukut bhai tries to brazen out of the situation ... yes, she's a girl, she's my friend ... Manav is having none of that ... so Mukut lets loose his grievances ... yes, he is close to Mayuri, so what?!
And funnily, he says almost the same words to Manav that Kaumudi said to Chhanchhan ... Manav and Chhanchhan are happy together because they know and love each other, their views, their thinking is the same, they can talk about the same things, enjoy the same things ... while he has nothing in common with his ganwar wife ... she only knows how to cook, clean, look after the kids and obey his parents.
Hello, Mukut bhai ... you try doing all that yourself, and then talk further! Though I do agree with the rest ... somewhat ... must be tough to be married to someone with whom you have nothing in common at all.
And he tells Manav and CC to keep quiet about this, he will come back when he wants to.

Mukut's daughter sees him outside and calls out ... he ignores and goes off ... she's sad ... CC tries to hush her up and they take the kids back home, both deep in thought, wondering what to do ...
Finally clarified ... Mukut Kaumudi have two girls, and Ranjana Manek have a son. Family tree finally sorted out.

At home, Umaben is hopping mad and trying not to show it ... Manav and CC return with the kids, both still silent ... Sakshi again lets out the news about the accident ... and Dadaji admonishes Umaben for accusing them for being late without trying to ask why. He had a point. He usually does.

Manav is angry and shows it ... he almost lets the cat out, but CC stops him ...

Umaben thinks Chhanchhan did this purposely just to show her down ... CC is appalled how she could think so ... and even more, worried as to how to tell her and the family what it was that actually delayed them and why Manav could not have come alone with the kids.

Later at night, Manav-Chhanchhan wonder what to do and how to handle this ... Kaumudi enters with milk ... why do these people drink so much milk at night?! And did she hear anything important? Don't think so ... I think she only heard that there is a problem.

Edit - Weekend News
Good news for Chhanchhan- it has apparently got an extension till March 2014. So very few chances of it going off air prematurely! Yippee!!!

http://www.india-forums.com/tellybuzz/buzzin-hot/16083-chhanchhan-extended-till-march-saas-bina-sasural-2-coming-up-soo.htm

The only negative for Chhanchhan was that it was an expensive show and hence TRPs were important. If Sony feels that it's getting enough ad revenues despite low TRPs, then it will keep the show on air ... and definitely, the ads have not gone down for Chhanchhan, if anything, they have increased!

The positives for keeping it on air stay the same
- Sony knows it rushed CC on air too soon before the PH was ready.
- The disastrous choice of FK as ML was a result of that decision. So both were the fault of the channel, and it would be unfair to penalise the show and the PH for the same. Also Sony dragged its feet about changing FK for a long time, thus worsening the situation.

- Optimystix is an old favorite of Sony's, and they have many of their shows airing on the channel. Sony will give them a greater leeway than other PHs.
- If Sony has signed on Sanaya and Supriya for a full year, they will keep her on air for the full year ... no point her being in contract with them and not shooting. Unless they find a better show to shift her to, Chhanchhan and Sanaya will stay on air. Already it seems that Colors is courting Sanaya full steam, Sony will be loth to lose her, they know she will be snapped up by another GEC soon enough.

I just hope that the PH sticks to their original story, now that the sword is off their heads to some extent. I want to see a really good story of Mukut-Kaumudi and Chhanchhan's new thinking helping Kaumudi to emerge from being a backward gharelu housewife to becoming a true companion for Mukut, and Mukut acknowledging her good qualities too.

  1. Good epi. Things I liked:

ChanMan in it together. Manav talked to his brother instead of CC sermonizing. Mukut reacted very realistically. Fudging and then defiantly owning up. Liked the UB-CC faceoff even if CC had nothing to say. I could see where UB was coming from and why she was looking at everything as 'modern' thinking. For a matriarch who's diktats were never opposed, she is now in a situation where she is unhappy with what happened but cannot fire off because of the weight of CC's magnanimity in deleting evidence of her underhandedness. Beautifully done!

Looking forward to see how Kaumudi deals with her husband's indiscretion. Perhaps she will quietly take a stand and make him choose?

    1. I liked the way Manav took over the questioning from CC, she expressed her shock and disapproval, and then Manav spoke further. That's the way it should be. If it was her family, then she should speak, the way she spoke to her brother about Mansi. Nice touch there.
I also liked the way Manav was getting angry enough to let the cat out of the bag back at home, and CC touched his hand slightly to remind him to keep his cool and stay quiet ... and he subsided. Again these little touches are very realistic, and show a sensible relationship between husband and wife. They know when to keep quiet, when to tell the other to keep quiet and when which person should speak. Very nice!

I liked Mukut's reaction too ... first trying to bluff it out and then owning up defiantly - he can bully his younger brother to keep quiet, for now.
Wish CC had been a little more clearcut about the reason for them getting late, but I guess she was too worried about the real reason to even worry too much about what Umaben was saying.
Love the way you expressed Umaben's dilemma - unhappy with what is happening, but caught in a situation where she cannot say much, not because of any blackmail or threats (as is usual in most serials) but because of CC's magnanimity ... that weighs on Umaben tremendously, that she is indebted to CC for saving her relationship with her son.

I wonder if Kaumudi will graciously tell Umaben that she wants some time on her own, and leave for her maayka with dignity and pride ... leaving CC-Manav to show Mukut how much she actually does for him which he never appreciated? Or will CC try to modernise Kaumudi? I wish Kaumudi would smarten up a little, not just because Mukut wants a modern wife, but because education and learning to keep up with the changing times is a very good thing in itself.

  2. A little short on time, so copying and pasting what I wrote on IF:

Late arrival...so I maybe repeating a few things already mentioned here...

The story is poised at a place where creatives can really take it up a notch...
UB has dropped her sweetness and facing headlong Chhanchhan as a bahu whose mentalty does not match hers and Chhanchhan has her work cut out...she is here to stay but needs the blessings of her MIL to make her place in the family. Supriyaji is doing a fab job of showing the discomfort of UB in interacting with Chhanchhan, Sanaya too is good in facial expressions, but wish she is given better dialogues.

Of course the scene of the day was hospital confrontation...though I don't condone Mukut's behaviour but can understand to some extent where he is coming from...to live like strangers under one roof is nothing less of punishment...there are lot of good people in this world but that does not automatically make them good life partners...both Kaumudi and Mukut are living in their private misery. We will soon find out about UB's hand in this affair.

Doc Mayuri seems to know of Mukut's marriage and kids and have no reservation, curious to know what convinced her to get into this relationship. Life is not black and white, there are many complex relations in this world...hope the creatives are able to tackle this track well, it has lots of potential and if the extension news is true, then they also have time to do this properly without rushing. Plus this is their chance to entice viewers, if storytelling improves.

Two other scenes which stood out for me - the kid calling out to her dad and the UB and Chhanchhan conversation, UB may have a point there but Chhanchhan too should be given something to say, though in this case she might not be out of shock after what transpired in the hospital.

Hope the creatives don't cop out and take the easy route of Kaumudi the idol "bharati nari" and unlike Sonali give Mayuri a story instead of painting her black. Liked that they kept Mukut unapologetic...makes it interesting...and the actor was good in the scene. Anuj did well too.

My two cents...Kaumudi did not hear anything, but she will sense there is a problem...

    1. Uma,

Am with you in most of your points ... I also wished CC had been given stronger dialogues in the UB-CC confrontation - she should have looked firm and unapologetic, and her tone should have conveyed that as well. Granted she was more worried about what she and Manav had just seen, but she didn't need to worry about what Umaben was accusing her of, or be distressed about it ... she had other things to worry about. That should have come through better.
Manav's reaction was good, the simmering anger and his trying to keep it in check and keep quiet till he and CC could discuss it further.
Umaben was good - as Enkay said, she is upset about the changes in her house, but her debt to CC means she cannot express herself openly, she can't even accuse CC of trying to break her relationship with her son, because that has been disproved thoroughly. Now all she can do is try to prove that CC is trying to undermine all her rules, and hence is not fit to be a BS bahu.

Mukut-Kaumudi - I liked the hospital scene, the way Mukut defiantly owned up to his affair. Also noted the way he said almost the same things to Manav that Kaumudi had said to Chhanchhan about the differences between the Manav-CC relationship and the Mukut-Kaumudi one. Both Mukut and Kaumudi are unhappy in the marriage, but don't know what to do about it, since separation or divorce are unthinkable in the BS house. So Mukut has found the easy way out ... but what about poor Kaumudi? Stuck in a loveless marriage where her husband doesn't respect her for her good qualities, and is not either friend or companion. He has found someone he can share his woes with, but what about her? She has no one in her sasuraal ... Ranjana Sanjana at least have each other.

Mayuri stayed silent ... I think she did know he was married, but maybe he had painted a very different picture of Kaumudi to her - the usual "my wife doesn't understand me" suffering husband ... so she was seeing the other side of the picture for the first time. In the episode she didn't look or behave like a typical vamp, will have to see how she goes ... and how the cv's play out the track. I will be disappointed too if they just make Mukut accept his fault and go meekly back to Kaumudi ... but the way the story is structured about UB realising her mistakes, I think this track WILL expose UB's mistakes in fixing the alliance in the first place. Also this is one of the original tracks of the show, it started when UB said in the first week that Mukut had left home and she had brought him back. So there should be a solid story here.

I have a feeling Kaumudi will think there is a problem between Manav-CC, and will call Mukut to discuss that! :)))
