TV This Fortnight - 1st April - 15th April

If there are more comments, then will make it post for the week

Veera ... Ranvi is seriously far too naive for a 13 year old! He's learned about the freedom struggle in school, doesn't he know about the border between India and Pakistan?
Loved the whole scenario of the shoot ... did the team actually go to the border or nearby, for the shoot? Visually very well done ... the actors must really have done a lot of running! And the defusing of the tension between the soldiers was also nice ... though were the soldiers really all waiting for the officers to come and give the command for the kid to be extracted from No Man's Land?
And will the errant couple who tried to kidnap Ranvi be caught? Judging by the way this show really does close all loops in the script, I would hope so.
But it is high time Nihal told Ratan whatever truth he knows about Sampooran ... keeping it a secret almost resulted in a big tragedy this time.

Said it before, saying it again ... the actors are great in this show! Ratan is superb, so are the kids.

Madhubala

Na Bole Tum

Qabool Hai

Saraswatichandra ... the main problem with this show is the time warp between a modern guy from Dubai and the transplantation into a remote village ... where you have a modern educated computer literate girl battling backward norms and orthodox beliefs and rituals. The transition makes my head spin ... The only thing believable is the romance ... because it is between two fairly similar individuals, and the girl is as educated as the boy. Gautam Rode is good, Jenni is okay, getting better. My problem is, I can't enjoy love stories any more, unless they have Sanaya. LOL  So a time pass watch for me, for the costumes and the locales.

Badalte Rishton Ki Dastaan ... thought I would watch this, but the father-in-law is black as any saas, and even more autocratic. Also appears to be from the Dark Ages.

  1. hello hi sweeties,
been on a break, life was busy, now back to normal programming.

watched bits of MB, QH, BRkD, NBT, and of course CC.

i love meera of BRkD. such complex emotions.. such expressive eyes! even though the whole story is evident from episode1, i like watching it play out.

sultan of MB was interesting even in his previous serial.. but i sure hope he is not falling for MB. //like shwethu said, if madhu keeps talking, that wont happen :D

Bani on colors airs at the same time as veera, i catch it the morning after.. seems to be something similar to veera.. earthy story with no pretenses, i had liked the first look.. but haven't caught the last week.

QH they seem to have been maintaining the breakneck speed. though all the high class fellows seem to be shopping in the open market instead of in malls. (i like the new tanvi... as good as the old one!)

CC seems to be okay, for the genre it is supposed to be in. after monday's episode, i think the evil saasumaa is going to get sidelined pretty soon... the mental theatrics are too complicated for kids to understand... and this is shaping up to be a kids serial.

i like maanav.. he is maa da laadla to the core, and looks to be the emotional age of thirteen, and has an adorable smile!

well... but after being spoiled by beautiful storytelling, the band-aid screenplay is really putting me off... and honestly, CC looks too old for her beau, because she is so mature and taking serious decisions.. he is still running around playing "I'm watching you" games. (i guess that is the story to wait for.. how he becomes the punching bag of two strong women, like husbands galore worldwide :D)

simple's lovestory is more interesting, tbh. the way whatsisname was drooling to simple... it was so funny!

and yes, i see it becoming a hit with little girls everywhere.. chanchan is almost a barbie role.. strong successful idealistic polite young female..

if the saas was on the side of good and bending laws , i could understand.. but she is crooked and a lying conniving sweet talker.. ppl would hate her instantly.. but i guess that is the point. anyway, i'm planning on watching cc.. if only for you, dear RnR.

though i am sure there is not much to discuss in there.

  3. Am on episode 4 of Humsafar, and it's all about Asher and Sarah! When does the Asher Khairat story start? And so far I don't much care for Asher ... if he didn't have the guts to say 'no' to his dad's admittedly unreasonable demand, then he can't spend the rest of his time moaning about it to Sarah! Not fair to either woman!

  4. DIAAAAAAAAAAA, DUMP HUMSAFAR NOW, Start watching Zindagi Gulzar hai bey, waisay there too you will be sidelined with loads of side tracks and there is very little of the leads, but I found that sort of laid the foundation beautifully for the characters, watch ZGH......and why are you watching full episodes of humsafar, read the wiki and simply watch their exclusive scenes, that is more than enough....well it was for me he he...

Sooooooo MB...Sultan is doing havan, how come??/And if he has a cellphone and enough money to get new wardrobe for him, his son and his kaaka, why isnt he using the same to call his former associates, ki bhai( pun intended) I am still alive, chup chap dump that bhai and salaam maaro this bhai..........hiding in MB's place ka kya logic hai???

RK is back, awwwwwwww....sikki, dips rock.....new awesome jodi in town, bittu-maa team....purely as cupids........have to watch the epi properly before I bakbak about it even more....:)

Relief to have RK back....And one Q:

Those who watch MB..Do you like the character, am I the only one who watches it more for RK than MB?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. ROFL Shweths ... I don't watch MB for either Madhu or RK ... so it's actually very liberating to watch :))) Can watch without feeling more or less for either of them - completely neutral observer!!! So far I like Bittuji and Deepali the best, one for his character and one for acting!

Same question - why is Sultan doing havan? Was his wife a Hindu?

Parvarish comes right after CC ... so started watching it. I think Sony really has some decent shows ... now that I got the channel fixed, am seeing more of it :)))

      Delete
    2. And oye, I will switch to ZGH tomorrow! How many episodes are already over?

      Delete
    3. Shweths...i recently started watching MB..coz there was nothing else to watch and CC is not appealing to me yet..

i like RK :)..his dialogues more than anything...i watch it for him and Dips..definitely not for MB...

      Delete
    4. Hi Dia , it's in 18th episode. that's really nice and the actors are doing great job there. would love to read ur views and others regarding ZGH. Will wait to read more on that from u...
      take care all

    5. MB:

      Shwetha,
I have to agree with Dia. I watch it for Dips and Sikki and Bittoji now. RK has become boringly predictable with his expressions and dialogue nowadays. Though it was nice to see him after so many days. BTW,I feel the Sultan fellow is a better actor than VD or DD...I watch it for him also now. Used to like him in Chhal too..

      Delete
    6. Shwetha,

I used to watch MB for RK and Rishabala. Of late I watch it purely as timepass as they ruined the show by bringing in a revenge track which was not properly justified nor believable. Although Madhu came back strongly in a few episodes, the recent gangster track has sullied her character as well. I have to admit that despite RK's despicable actions, VD makes him attractive and compelling to watch. Love little Aryan too.

    7. Lakshmi Hiiiiiiiii

      Dia, Anita, Opti, Su

Have to admit My being meherbaan over MB could be that I actually skipped quite a few epis in between and was only reading the updates, so it is good to see the show getting its act together, I have no complaints about the supposed triangle, the sultan guy is great and Aryan is the beshhhhhhhhhtttt...

VD is fantastic as RK, Sultan is the only guy who seems capable of shutting MB up, as Ronald Weasely said, She needs to sort her priorities

  5. Verra ... as I predicted, the erring couple is caught. Nice! Bit of a dramatic confrontation though :)
Glad that Ranvi was admonished too - he deserved it.

Will Nihal Singh kindly open his mouth now?! What is he waiting for - a mahurat? Or does he really not know anything more about Sampooran? Can't be ...

Fultoo rona dhona emotional episode! After so much rona dhona, good to see MC back! But what is Kartar's problem?!

  6. NBT is going good these days. The focus is back on Meghan. Thanks to Guru, Megha is under the impression Mohan has moved on by getting married to someone and also begetting a daughter in the 12 years they were apart while the poor guy has done nothing but long to be united with his family all these years. He adopted a girl to keep from sinking into deep depression. The situation is poignant and the actors are doing a great job of conveying the pain.

    1. Opti,

I too am now watching NBT, gave up on junoon.

      Delete
    2. I have a few Qs regarding NBT, since I have recently started watching the show.

Why did Mohan leave Megha in the first place? From what I understood, he decided to return only with Addu. So he did not come back all these years. Was it a mutual decision or did Megha tell him to go away or was it the girl's idea?

What made him leave a woman who had already lost her first husband and son?

I hope he did not adopt the girl to save himself- did he not think his wife/ lover would be in an even bigger depression? I really hope he just found her as a missing girl and could not return her because there was no one to return her to.

Did they actually get married in season 1? If so, they are still married, right?

      Delete
    3. Su,

Mohan could not bear to see Megha grieving for Addu. Despite his best efforts he wasn't able to locate him and he was feeling guilty of being a little harsh on the boy. Initially he thought the boy ran away from him and Nanhi drummed it in that the boy was upset with his step dad. So Mohan decided that for all their sakes he will leave them and return only with the boy. He discussed it with Megha and she silently agreed because she too in her heart of hearts felt that Mohan was somehow responsbile for Addu's missing.

When Mohan left he did not know that it would take so long to locate the kid. I guess he may have thought that in less than a year he will track the kid and make up with him and bring him back. Unfortunately despite his best efforts, he could not locate him all these years and he did not have the face to return to his family without the kid as he promised them he will only return with the boy.

Now the guy had gone into deep depression and hit the bottle. They have not shown the details of Rimjim's adoption but from what I gather, it appears that the little girl lost both her parents and Mohan found her somewhere. During his low phase she was the shining light. I guess she may have reminded him of Nanhi. It is for the little girl that he started living again but his sorrow at having lost his family never left him. He continued to search for the elusive boy.

It is during this time that he came across a report of kids getting kidnapped from Indore station. Since he had always thought Addu ran away, he did not think of this possibility till now. Using all his resources and experience as a crime reporter, he is now trying to trap the kidnapping gang so that he can find Addu. He wasn't planning to meete Megha till he gets the kid (who would have become a young man by now) but he accidentally meets her and she presumes that he has returned with her son and they embrace. When she realises that he has not got the boy, she is hurt that he couldn't hold a promise. She had never really hated him as much as Nanhi did because she always believed that the guy will someday return with her son but now all hopes seem lost especially now that she thinks he has moved on in life.

Yes, they did get married in Season 1 and are still married although Megha seems to think that he has got married again to someone who is no more.

I love the show for the intricate and sensitive feelings portrayed by all the main characters. Nobody is really wrong here. Circumstances have twisted the lives of the three main characters. Mohan and Nanhi have made up but Meghan are yet to do so. Mohan has never stopped loving these two women in his life. Considering that this is his only marriage, he has no kids of his own although he loves the three he got equally and is yet misunderstood for being a bad parent, Mohan is the one to be pitied more.

Even in season one Mohan was the one who went through hell to be with his beloved. There was a piognant track whereby just as they are about to begin their married life, they have a bad accident in which Megha becomes paralysed. At one point she even tries to kill herself, unable to see Mohan tied to a vegetable. It is Mohan who gives her hope and gets her back on her feet by staging his accident and making her jump out of her wheel chair to save him. In other words, he has risked his life for her and yet poor Megha is under the impression that the guy has moved on now.

Kunal is doing an excellent job in playing Mohan's role. Despite his unconventional looks he wins people's hearts with his expressions. One could feel the pain in his eyes.

      Delete
    4. Thanks Opti,
I have caught it only in snippets.
Kunal is a good actor, I agree. I used to like him amd Nannhi in Season 1, now I like him and RJ. He is cute with kids.

But why does Megha think he got married again without divorcing her? He is a conscientious journalist, and doesn't she know him better with all this history they had?
If he wanted to move on, wouldn't he seek divorce before marrying someone else and giving his kid his name?

      Delete
    5. Mohan's manservant, Guru has lied to Megha that Rimjim is Mohan and someone named Meera's daughter. You are right. She should have thought how Mohan can get married to someone while still being married to her but then in season 1 there was this Riddhimma track where he gets married to this girl, Riddhima to fulfill the wishes of her dying father. He was drunk then because Megha failed to admit her love for him and he was shamed in front of her in-laws. Thinking he has no future with Megha, he ended up reluctantly marrying this girl in a temple with only the girl and her mother present on the occasion. He returns home and finds Megha waiting for him to confess her love. The guy is torn between wanting to tell her the truth and being scared of losing her if he did. Riddhima further confuses him by promising to annul their marriage. Mohan believes her and goes ahead with the marriage to Megha. Later we find that Riddhima had no intention to annul their marriage and she tries to assert her rights.

Although Megha was hurt that he did not confide in her earlier, she stands by him and they fight the case in the courts. During this time Megha is forced to give up her kids to her in-laws as they do not trust Mohan. (I had stopped watching the show around this time since I could not digest Mohan-Riddhi marriage, whatever be the reason). Anyway, at the end it is revealed that Riddhi is insane and on drugs to keep her insanity in check so the marriage automatically becomes null and void.

It is while returning from the court after this verdict that Meghan meet with the accident I mentioned.

So the point I tried to make is that Mohan has a history of being emotional and impulsive and he did get entangled in an unwanted marriage with a woman he hardly knew because he could not get Megha's consent. So given the state of mind he was in when he left in search of Addu, Megha could have thought that he may have met and married someone who took his mind off his problems. Moreover, Megha trusts Guru and when he himself told her that Rimjhim was Mohan's and Meera's daughter, she could not question it.

  7. watching all the shows a day after...
veera is back to the waterworks. though it was really heartwarming too.

today zoya made me cry in QH.. asad taking her to the grave.. she was so excited to be meeting her abbu, talking away a mile a minute.. and her heartbreak was so .. it was such a touching scene. asad's expressions throughout that scene were perfect. there is no formality now.. he seems to have accepted zoya as his... even though zoya is not in quite so deep. and ayan is finally realizing that humeira loves him.. (like a post on IF said, the half sisters have fallen for half brothers..)

madhu was looking absolutely gorgeous in her holi getup.. and it seems sultan is thawing towards her. good thing they showed RK applying color on her in the precap :D

bani is conflicted because she HAS to marry a NRI though she does not want to. good to see bani's little sister asking a lot of pertinent questions about the proposal.

meera is trying to decide if it is safer to stay or go from her lover's family home.. seems the evil chachaji (aww the memories of our IPK discussions) is trying to spin a new curve..

megha is heartbroken... addu actually seems to be a grown up version of vishesh bansal.. great casting.

btw did anyone see the ad in which vishesh and another were parodying "mere paas gaadi hai, bangla hai..." hilarious trailer.

  9. Diaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa, agar tumhay mujh par zara bhi bharosa hai*Shwets in Fultoo Nautanki mode as it has been one of those days which has totally left me exhausted, so battery charging here*wink*...Okay okay, enough precap, CONTINUING:

    Isshtory:

Zaroon is the only son of a rich industrialist well to do family, has loving parents, an elder sister, very understanding dad and a career oriented mom who is trying her best to balance both. Zaroon is pucca flirt, spoilt, happy go lucky, gets his way with people, MCP too yet he is fairly grounded, a family guy, actually has a pretty conservative outlook when it comes to women....atleast the women in his life, wants to join the civil service specifically foreign service and has no intention of joining the family business.

Kashaf's dad left her mom and her 2 sisters years ago as he wanted a son, remarries, they are in touch but the dad is of no help and has a jealous ex-wife. Kashaf's mom has single handedly brought the girls up, given them great education and also now works as a school principal. She is shown not to hold any grudges against her hubby and is affectionate towards his son from the second marriage though the girls barely tolerate the guy who is a bit of a dumbo.

NOW Kashaf and Zaroon take admission in one of the prestigious colleges and kashaf continues to outrank him everytime.

Kashaf finds him extremely annoying and Zaroon is irritated as she is the first girl who is completely immune to him. So he sort of takes it as a challenge that she will fall for his charms, Kashaf overhears him (not that he was making any progress in the charms department anyway with her) and they have a huuuuuuuge public argument. Now the College's Dean/Principal is a family friend of Zaroon's dad and zaroon is very close to him. Sir Abrar also becomes the mentor to Kashaf and becomes the father figure to Kashaf and even after leaving college she keeps in touch with him.

Zaroon has 2 friends - 1 girl Asmara, childhood friend and during college he reluctantly gets engaged to her and eventually their engagement is called off as Zaroon is absolutely not okay with Asmara's lifestyle.

His other close friend - Usama is a very nice guy who never hesitates in pointing out and correcting zaroon when he does something wrong. Usama also becomes a friend to Kashaf and they get along fairly well types...Usama is shown to like Kashaf and Kashaf has a no man-no marriage policy.

When usama questions Zaroon about his ideal life partner, zaroon surprises himself and usama by taking kashaf's name or someone like kashaf type.

In the meantime Zaroons sister gets married and divorced.

Now this is the backdrop of the story so far:

Kashaf and Zaroon go their separate ways after college, she gets into civil services and he into Foreign service and they meet most unexpectedly:

    3. Dia, Swetha has very well briefed the entire back drop of ZGH. Thanks Swetha b'cos of u i watched it from 14th episode. I was waiting for u to come back , as u 've promised to bak bak abt it in one thread.

To add, Kashaf is a bit pessimist. She feels that b'cos of her hard work she has gained that position in life. Though that's true she always clings to the negative aspect than positives . But she loves her family and respects her mother a lot. She hates her dad . She has a very good rapport with her younger sister Sidra. She is the eldest daughter, but for Sidra's marriage she takes up job as their father doesn't help financially and never took any responsibilities of his daughters. She always feels that she is unlucky and a very serious type girl.

You can watch it from 14th episode , u'll get the story. I would love to read ur reviews on ZGH too . Hope u can spend sometime. You can trust Swetha, it's worth watching.

    10. I am now up to date with ZGH ... had a marathon session the last two days! Enjoyed watching the show ... very well acted and written. The father, Murtaza is of course shown to be a total kameena and spineless with it ... what I thoroughly enjoyed was watching his gradual change of attitude - actually, not very gradual, it underwent an overnight change when Kashaf passed her CSS exam and became a senior government officer! And the realisation that his three daughters, whom he had ignored in favor of his worthless son, were all doing much better than Hammad, and got married into good families and well settled without his help, and he and jealous wife now have to ask the three girls for favors for the son! Karma indeed!

The last few episodes after Zaroon realises he likes Kashaf were hilarious ... especially after he knows Sir Abrar has told Kashaf about his proposal, and he's so petrified about her reaction! The wedding night was hilarious with their silent comments ... it had me laughing at my laptop at 2 am! My husband thought I was crazy!

  10. *Romance ka kabaada warning on MB*

So, when woh lamhay woh raatay was picturized on the two men in MBs life supposedly to convey the turmoil of the two men when it comes to MB - ALL I COULD THINK OF was, hmmmmmmmmmm....becharay donon ki neend kharaab kar, MB aarama say so rahi hai tsk tsk...

The two things that come to my mind when I see Dholak onscreen

    SRK In Darr
    Shyam in IpK...

So when I saw Dholak in QH between the younger bro going Holi kay naam par ek hug de day Bhai or to be fair, Bura na maano holi hai, ab maaf bhi kar do bhai I WONDERED, is it the same dholak, Shyam did it better.

Oye Asad hug kar yaar bhai ko, warna bhai dholak kay weight may maara jaayega

Now in MB we had, Dholak Jugalbandi*rolls eyes*

    Thoughts

    1. WT, No one recognized or cared when RK the superstar minus any colors come to the chawl, looks like they are taking him for granted

    2. Jugalbandi starts and supposedly to show -
    Gushht of wind for Rishbala,

RK & Sultan can always take up alternate profession, if they ever want to make a career change

Both men coming towards each other beating the dholak and MB sandwiched between the two symbolism whatever and all i could hope was ki someone beat some sense into both of them.

    Dance

It just felt so damn awkward watching these two dance in the middle and when he lifted her, for a second I was wondering if she would kick him.......the song didnt work for me, they have a fab bg score which underlines the passion it would have been better if they had used that RK & MB looking at each other while the others danced around them.......

Saving grace was during the dance , RK focusing on MB and not looking up at Sultan, I could almost see RK breaking into

Tujhko mirchi lagi toh main kya karron,
Yeh hai biwi meri, fas gaya main,
Jaan bachakay jaldi yahan say bhaag Tu

pathetic lines I know, Did i mention it has been one of those days, hoping for a better day and better bakwas tomorrow from my side he he....

And don't stop your bakwas ...

    2. First of all, I have to figure out whether I'm watching the same episode ... all messed up here.

Did RK turn Invisible Man? No one in the chawl recognised him? Or if they did, they didn't bother ... ghar ki murgi daal barabar ... after all he has been here so many times, ab no novelty factor left ...

So is Madhu his biwi still or not? Am confused.. pehle he threw her out, now he calls her biwi ... banda is very conphooosed!!! Why did he even throw her out in the first place?!

MB is fultoo philmy show ... so much dramatics!!!

Did RK put color on himself kya? Just before he started playing the dholak? But bhy?

Dance ... no comments except ... move it into your room, guys!!! Seriously ... in the middle of the courtyard?! And did they BOTH turn invisible for the rest this time?
Okay, was this an attempt to do a repeat of Teri Meri? Sorry, was NOT in good taste.

And saw the new promo in the middle of the episode ... honestly, this RK's ishq and junoon is totally ridiculous ... jab chahe he throws her out, jab chahe he wants her back ... run, Madhu, run for your life!
They've lost RK's character somewhere ... I used to like the guy! :(((
I like Sultan now ... at least he's a decent fellow.

    3. Shwetha,
That was a hilarious take. LOL.

I think they are finally getting back to the story, hopefully.
      This is what I felt:

So RK still has some right over Madhu? He calls her biwi….
Madhu cannot still control her feelings for RK: “Main roz marti hoon- tab jaake nafrat kar paati hoon tujhse…”

After a long time, I liked RK- Madhu yesterday. I found the whole Holi segment boring, until RK made his entry. When RK started the dholak right after Sultan stopped, I wondered if they were going to have a competition. LOL. Thankfully not!

I liked the way RK set his dholak down and sent it rolling…typically his style. Good of the director to remember that. And a good contrast from Sultan who was subdued and white yesterday.

RK with his face painted red reminded me of Raavan. I really hope I am not offending anyone, when I say that suddenly RK- Madhu looked like Raavan- Sita with a twist. This Sita is in love with this Raavan. She is in love with a dark hero. She is going to deny it on his face, and he will probably be working to show her that she indeed loves him. RK is taking the wrong route again. He is pushing her into a corner. And even as Madhu realises his hold over her, she will work against it, tooth and nail.

I feel they set up the triangle pretty well. Yesterday, for some time it looked like Madhu might accept if Sultan proposed to her. Interesting...

The pace is painfully slow and boring with a fairly subdued Dips, but they must be on the right track since the trps seem not to have failed them.

      Delete
    4. of course RK has rights over madhu... the montage shows the both of them, does it not? sultan is not in the montage at all..

it will not look like it in the show, but madhu is mad at RK.. RK is faraqing madhu.. sultan is niharofying madhu.. there is only one way this track is gonna end. in the meanwhile, i'm just gonna rewatch sultan's dhol bajao-ing.

RK can dance anywhere with madhu, dia... he is the hero! whether he divorved her or not, they are tied together by invisible strings which weave the invisibility cloak whenever they are together :D

      Delete
    5. He he...going a little overboard here...But the red paint- in Kathakali red is the predominant colour for an evil character. And to build up on that thought of Raavan- Raavan had ten heads. RK has only one head- but it is equivalent to the ten heads of Raavan and that blown up head is too full of himself. One day RK's head is going to burst if he keeps thinking only about himself.

It does not occur to him that she is the one who was wronged. When they got intoxicated, he was asking her, 'why did you let this happen to us? I don't know me, you are supposed to know me, why I am the way I am.' And she had no answer for him.

      J,
There is no confusion that this is not even a triangle. What I am hoping for, is a mature Sultan. At least one character should show some sense, right? Plus he has his own love ishtory since he refuses to divulge any info about Aaryan's momma. I am hoping that he will be the first one to recognise that Madhu will always love RK, no matter what.

Padminiji has been looking at Sultan quite approvingly, if you noticed. And the kid will want Madhu for his momma soon. If marriage comes up, Madhu might not even have a say in it, because her mother is talking sense. Sultan will be the ideal choice for her, since RK will always be wrong for her. Plus she cannot refuse the kid too.

      Dia,
That lift in the courtyard- it must have been difficult. I felt they did it decently, because the comparison to TM never occurred to me. It was boring in parts, with him pulling her here and there, choreography could have been better. But I found passion in that lift- as usual, these two have passion in plenty when they are resisting each other. And yesterday, RK did not hold back- he was unleashing his anger on her.

      Delete
  11. Veera ... love the Nihal-kids-Ratan scenes ... the reason the kids are so good in the show is because they are allowed to be just that - kids!

I was just wondering where villain no 1, Bakhtawar had gone, and whether villain no 2, Kartar had replaced him ... unfortunately not ... both are around. What a pain.

And I don't like the idea of hurting innocent animals for their own petty revenge ... what a coward, whichever guy it is. All bullies are cowards, that saying is so true.

  15. QH:

Didn’t comment on it in spite of two very beautifully directed and acted episodes, because I was mad at Gul with the precap.
Onto Zoya’s pain- I felt Surbhi acted brilliantly, except for a few seconds where she seemed to be in danger of overacting. And she looked really pretty in that white suit. I felt yesterday was better. The song was shot beautifully and captured her pain. Loved the two of them offering prayers together. Also liked the way she held onto the cloth laid on the grave- like a little girl holding onto her father’s coat. At first I wondered why Asad did not prepare her for the shock (we were!), but then I felt it was good that he kept silent and broke the news in front of the grave- I guess he felt the proof right in front of her eyes would pull her out of denial soon enough.

But I do wonder how he knew the exact site of the grave, considering he received the news himself only about an hour back. He didn’t even have to search 4 it!

Precap: I felt it was a very weak dialogue: ’I don’t know why I want you to stay back, it feels good to have you around’. WT! They both looked silly.

I am happier and hopeful after the new promo, where he offers her the tickets and still can’t mouth ‘mat jaa’. I hope the precap was a rehearsal in his mind or a dream or something.

  16. *THUD*.........FOR the show MB

    perfect episode today.

Yesterday my grouse was with the setting and the song, today it was just perfect, both alone in their own world, resisting, fighting before finally giving in, 2 days in a row, Have loved VD & MB.

See this is why Nautanki PH should save their money and use the title track for these two, rather than some lame songs..

One of my biggest grouse with MB is somehow that emotional connection to MB the character has not been there much, maybe cos RK is better written with better dialogues ,but today when she lifts her hand to apply rang on RK and senses danger, instinctively goes to protect Aryans Dad rather than Sultan per se and watches RK leave in anger, realizing that he has misunderstood, the stunned reaction of having lost him one more time, my heart went out for MB...

I wont go into the debate of whether he deserves to be forgiven or not as I am watching it more on dekho, bakbak karo, bhool jao types - what I gathered from today was RK was honest with her

*I know I do not have any right over you, but it is my right to be the first to put the colour on you

*Why do I want to be the first one, well the day I understand, I will explain it to you, right now all I know is You are mine*

Well maybe not the exact dialogues, but what I remember from their moment..

I also liked the way Sultan came out looking for her concerned, the stunned reaction when she put the color on him, him immediately going on a protective and sensible mode, today it was a fab performance by the ensemble cast.

    Now it gets interesting

What will RK do (have to say, the show hinges on his actions and reactions than MBs)

Will he pull out the contract to MB and say you have not paid the 40 lakhs, so till you do that you have to come back and stay with me as my wife

In his anger will he push MB towards Sultan and force Sultan to be MBs protector - between MB& Sultan the common bond is Aryan at the moment, though Sultan seems to be thawing towards her..

    Or

When Sultan finds out he will give 40 lakhs to MB, ki jaao free yourself from your contract, maybe marry me so you can be the mother to Aryan

    aiyoooooooo...

Pata nahin yaar while 40 laksh get thrown around, ofcourse apna Income Tax department is sleeping as usual......

*Shwets looks at Godjee, yes I know I did band bajaaofied the MB episode yesterday, today I have written as I usually used to write about IPK, sooooooooo....hopefully the karma gets balanced out, godjee, raham karo*

    Jayu: Invisibility cloak*Rofl*

    Watched QH today,

First thing I noticed, they used BD for phoophi wala scene.

Nafrat hai na aapko humsay, hamari shakal bhi nahin dekhna chahtay hain na aap, toh khush ho jaaiye, hum lucknow jaa rahain hain, hamesha kay liye, suna aapnay

I am going to newyork for hamesha, waisay bhi I was a mehmaan here..

And point to be remembered, agar Gushhtt of wind zaroorat say zyada LOUD ho, toh remember it is a dream sequence, agar Curtains kuch zyada hi uday kyunki no one is wearing a dupatta toh samajh jao, Dream sequence hai...

    Tumhay kya farak padta hai
Tumahay kya pareshaani ho rahi hai

    bas, itna hai on QH

Also anyone watching abhaas new show, his scenes with sanjeeda are fabulous!!! Excellent chemistry.....Nope it is no way romantic, he is out to get her expose her and she is deflecting him, Electric hai, watch it..

    1. Shwetha,

I think the next few episodes are going to be the best BDRKD. Both the actresses are wonderful, esp Sanjeeda. I loved the way Meera is slowly piecing together her husband's relationship with the stranger. Missed that particular scene of Abhaas's you mentioned. There was one where he stormed in and cornered her. The scene was good though it looked pretty disconnected from the show, considering someone from the family was also present there.

On QH: I really wish I had that Gyan on extar gushts of wind. Because yesterday's precap had that gust and it gave me indigestion. Had I known it was only a dream sequence, I could have saved my foul mood for another day!

Ha ha ha...Nice comparison with IPK! I used to feel the same too with some scenes- they simply look improvised.

But the equation is not the same with these two. They are on friendly terms more often than Arhi were. (I am not sure if Arhi were that at that stage.)
Asad cannot come out with his feelings, much like ASR. The difference is, he is shy. If ASR was arrogant to want Khushi to confess first, this fellow (looks like) is unsure of Zoya's feelings. It looks more like he does not want to pressurise her.

That was a nice round up of the story so far.
I do like the slow, relaxed story telling here. What I found striking is, here the FL seems to have more MUs than the ML. I do hope Megha simply brings up the matter with Mohan, rather than play hide n' seek and slap her daughter who suddenly wants them to be a family again. I understand she was rather shaken then, but felt the slap was unwarranted. No right and wrong or comparisons there- just felt it was out of place. (Would have welcomed the slap if it came about when she was heaping insults on her spiderman.)

  19. Hi Girls,
Been a long time!! AD was brutally busy and was away on easter break as well.....

Have begun watching ZGH...after reading some glowing comments about it....am loving it....i can't dissect to the level of IPK ; it is also my first exp of watching a pak serial drama...seemed to have missed watching all the other acclaimed pak shows...they seem to have a flourish with their story telling that i am absolutely enamored with...Zaroon and Kashaf seem very interesting characters....i like the build up in this simple tale of romance...

other than that...nothing really... i surf for half hr like in the past...nothing has been captivating enuf tho i read updates about qh and Mb every once in a while...qh vacillates too much for my liking...the drama around the love story is very off-putting and i realise Gul does not have anything to back up this love story unlike IPK so the meandering is so visible...about MB, i just don't get the point so i don't even try to understand...

CC...well a bit disappointed after i read the updates here....seems like any othersaas-bahu show with all the gudness loaded on one side...makes for a poor conflict, imo. Supriya's role could have had more dimensions to make it a more interesting contest.

DABH despite its very off-putting framework seems to be going about its point rather clearly...had seen a couple of episodes few weeks ago when the FL makes a point clearly to her MIL and their faceoff....on the face of it it seemed a challenge thrown to Sandhya to prove a point....however it underscored an important aspect...the challenge of how to get a modern idea to make inroads into very rigid terrain..i have no idea whats happening on that front now..but i am impressed that the makers are trying to say something there altho the wick appears to be doing nothing to help the lamp...maybe the wick is in the mode of they also serve who only stand and wait!!

yet to read all the posts...but i do sight a shwethu's mad bakbak somewhere up in here....lol

    6. HI Rekha,

It's ok yaar. I'm only three or four posts old. But i can relate to u all, as i'm here from ipk. After IPK, i literally didn't watch tv at all. Nothing impressive. But do check this blog daily to know what's happening...if u people were impressed and make lot of bak bak, then watched that particular episode of Veera . Though the kids and Ratan are good. I didn't follow that too.I'm an online watcher, Starplus makes it difficult to watch it online.
I wanted some sensible show to watch. Please dear don't ask how come i watched Ipk start to end ( though it was not sensible at all time.u all know how irresistible was ipk after u got hooked..i really can't watch anything just like that. some factor must be there to hook be it for time pass ... ZGH is my first pak show too...i'm following from 14th episode....rest saw in ff mode to know the story & characters...it's interesting . Worth to spent ...Both leads and some dialogues, especially their monologues are too good .

In earlier episodes too, their monologues while writing dairies were good. It helps to understand the characters better.I like Khushi's monologues with DM. But the creatives forgot that after sometime....Both Zaroon and Khasaf are level headed , so it will interesting hopefully, how they come long as a couple.Lets see...

i very glad to meet u all, virutally and thanks for ur warm welcome. i feel like taking to someone who i know ...take care all.

    7. as a diary writer myself, the diary monologues were what i loved first in the show. the way kashaf was so pessimistic and how zaroon was so happy in his stud status.. the CVs have done a very good job of bringing the characters to where they are now. (or rather, the novelist.. as the serial is based on a novel.) i love that the scenes are so detached from one another, yet flow like a brook..

LOL on the need of a sensible show, by an IPK fan.. thing is, under every cliche, there were sensible stuff in IPK. or dia made us see the sensible stuff in IPK.

just like she is doing now, with chanchan.
i have to admit i am more addicted to dia's reviews than the show itself.

    8. J, u a diary writer too....Hi5.....

i do that becos i fear my memory may fail me in the future so kuch aisi yaadoon ko hum sanjothe hain....

On ZGH...isn't the story itself in the form of diary...I was searching for the phrase and u said it above....The scenes are so detached yet flow like a brook....i am going to ink that with a special mention to u.....hugs..

Zaroon and Kashaf, as i said before, to me are two simple human beings, pulled into a vortex, by fate, circumstance...their love story can be anybody's love story. i don't see any larger than life moment in them and for me that is the biggest draw...an absolutely believable romance between seemingly different yet in some ways similar individuals.
for me in every opposite poles attract theory, there is a strong undercurrent/overlap of likeness

    9. ditto on dia making chanchan better!

    10. I liked the diary monologues too , although I'm not much of a diary writer ... but I am a reader :) I also like the slow progression over time and they way they've shown it in the show ... easier to do in a book, but they have adapted it very well on screen ... even the college scenes were nicely done to show the progression over the years ... watching it was like reading a novel rather than watching a show. Like you said, Jaya ... the scenes were detached from each other, yet they flowed ... and one got that sense of "as time goes by ..."

LOL at sensible stuff, Jaya ... I am a fairly uncritical viewer of soaps :))) I like what I watch, and if I don't like it, I don't watch it ... baat khatam!!! I think every soap I have liked has had something that hooked me and made me happy to overlook the deficiencies ... in many cases it is the acting. I can watch a mediocre show if the acting is good, especially if the female lead appeals to me ... Neena Gupta in Saans, Nikki Aneja in Astitva, Sandhya Mridul Singh in Koshish, Gunjan/Sanaya in MJHT ... I loved the shows for the female leads, both the character and the acting, although the male actors were good in all of them too, except for MJHT. But I can't watch a good show for long if the acting is not good, or it doesn't appeal to me - maybe one reason why I don't watch DABH or BV, even though I like the concept as such of both.

IPK I started following only for Sanaya, I fell in love with the Arshi chemistry ... but I stayed hooked when it deteriorated only for Sanaya again ... I loved the sensible, mature, emotional Khushi, the bubbly never-say-die Khushi, who bounced back after every blow that life threw at her, I even liked the childish Khushi at times, but the silly Khushi, the OTT Khushi :( - tolerated them only because it was Sanaya, and they were only a part of Khushi, not the whole ... Otherwise if she had been another Nupur, I would have switched off the show pronto.

So far I like Chhanchhan's character, and of course I love Sanaya's acting ... and her sunshine smile! After SGP, I am also enjoying a nice crazy fun family again, this one is even nicer because it is more contemporary, and many views resound with my own ... in my reviews I bring up what I like, and ignore what I don't like :)

  20. Veera ... enjoying the spectacle of the Sher-E -Punjab competition ... what a grand scale they have done it on! Totally impressive! Although nothing much happened during the ME, yet it was a decent watch. This show really should be given an earlier time slot, there's a lot of stuff in it for kids, teaches them a lot without being too preachy ... although sometimes I do feel like a grade 2 student :)))

yahan par screenplay is the saving grace but the basic premise is most confusing in this love story...its lost somewhere and it hangs in by a thread becos of its screenplay..if not for GH and Janki's work and some filmy dialogues for RK every once in a while, MB would have wound up long back....kya botli tu?

mushy RK.. he normally sounds so mushy..( i have long equated VD with a vintage rajesh khanna..that drunken voice) to watch him act mushy is almost torture. no wonder they always amp the glow in such scenes. IMHO, he is perfect in the sarcasm scenes he always has with dips or bittuji. the writers there manage to make sarcasm pretty amazing (even if its overexplained to get the mango ppl to understand the joke).

    7. Mohan and Nanhi make up during Holi. It was really touching. I had posted the episode link in the previous thread on TV this fortnight. Megha goes to Rimjim's house to play holi with her as Rimjim had asked her to but is shocked to see Guru (Mohan's man servant there).

Guru lies that Rimjim is Mohan and Meera's daughter and Megha is hurt that Mohan has remarried soon after leaving her. She leaves the place in a hurry and is on her way home when Munna (who I think is Addu, the missing son of Megha) splashes water on her from a hose pipe with full force. Megha faints and Mohan carries her home. When she gains consciousness she is upset to see him there. Nanhi who is unaware of her state of mind tells her that they have misunderstood Mohan and she has made up with him. Megha slaps her when she tries to say what a good person Mohan really is. Mohan asks her to give time for the healing of wounds, not knowing that Megha was upset after coming to know about him and Rimjim.

Meanwhile Rimjim takes ill and wants her dance teacher (Megha). Mohan who is unaware that Megha is her dance teacher, goes to her school to meet the dance teacher and get her home. Seeing Megha's back he blasts her for promising a small child and not sticking to her promises and then is shocked to see that it is her. Megha tells him that she had kept her promise and gone to his house but had to return after she learnt who Rimjim is. Mohan leaves the place sadly. He goes home dejectedly only to find Megha taking care of Rimjim. There is a lot of pain and love in the eyes of these two but they are unable to share it with each other. Mohan feels guilty that he was responsible for Addu's disappearance but is grateful that Megha was willing to take care of his daughter inspite of it. Megha is upset with him but is humane enough not to take it out of the little girl. Rimjim progresses well under Megha's care.

Mohan tries to tell Megha about Rimjim's antecedents but Megha stops him saying Guru has already told her about her. Mohan thinks Megha is aware that Rimjim is adopted. Munna in the meantime is trying to break these two. He is under the mistaken belief that Mohan and Megha are living together and Rimjim is their daughter. He is upset that instead of mourning for Addu, these two were living a happy life and had a child together. So he is out to take revenge on them. He lands at Mohan's place in the middle of the night as an electrician and resconnects the electrical connection he himself had meddled with. He does not let them see his face as he keeps shining a torch at their faces. While leaving he dumps something in the dustbin and knocks it over. When the lights come on Megha notices that there are torn pieces of Addu's photo. She is hurt that Mohan still resents Addu and tells him that she had momentarily forgotten how much he hated her son and thnaks him for reminding her that. Mohan is shocked at her remark. He takes the torn picture from her and stops Guru from vouching for his innocence. He tells Megha that at one point she had trusted him over everyone and now her trust seems to be broken. There was no point in trying to give a character certificate to someone who will not believe in it anyway. Megha leaves the place. Guru and Mohan see the picture and wonder how it landed there when they did not have that particular picture with them.

Watch tonight's episode where Megha finally blurts out about Mohan moving ahead. It is going to be an emotionally charged episode.

    9. Yes, yesterday was a beautiful episode. Both the leads did justice to the script. Akanksha has shown tremendous improvement since Season 1 and Kunal has always been excellent in emoting with his eyes. This guy is good in dialogue delivery as well as expressions.

Yes, the show is more realistic and taps well into human emotions and inter personal relationships without over dramatising the scenes. It is a pity that the trps don't do justice to the show. The title 'Na bole tum na maine kuch kaha' is apt for the show. Most problems and misunderstadings are because of lack of communication.

    10. I loved The Proposal!!! And I am not planning to watch QH do a mauling of it :)))

Opti, TRP's only come with melodrama ... I am resigned to the fact that the shows I like, will never really get good TRP's ... Maryada was another show I enjoyed a lot, and its TRP's were never great - there was celebration when they hit 2+

As long as NBT, Chhanchhan and other shows I like stay on air for a decent length of time and the makers get to tell their story the way they intended, it's good enough for me. NBT makers made MJHT too, while that show was mediocre at many parts, it did appeal to the youth, and I loved the SaJan love story part, it was very beautifully told, and was a mature love story in a college milieu. Maybe that's why it was never as popular as the Mayank-Nupur one. NBT is similar in the emotions of the storytelling. They underplay the emotions, and bring them out beautifully.

      Delete
    11. Dia,

What works in NBT's favour is the very strong script and the appropirate time span for the story telling. In season 1 they dealt with the love story and remarriage of a young widow with two kids to a carefree crime reporter who initially is misled sullying the reputation of the dead husband but makes up by going to great lengths to prove the man's innocence. The show ran for 9 months and wound up with the happy reunion of the leads after the trials and tribulations which included one unwanted marriage ( a test for the female lead's love) and the incapictation of the female lead (a test for the male lead's love).

Season 2 began with a leap of 12 years. Life is not a bed of roses for any couple let alone a couple where one partner has children from the previous marriage. The problems which crop up between step father and step son and the repercussions on the rest of the family is the basis of this story and how beautifully they are going about unravelling it.

I am glad that such shows still find a place amidst all the cliched and overdramatised shows and has whipped up enough audience interest to manage a second season. Kudos to the entire team of NBT.

    1. J,

I now read the interview....on ur question....i am not sure what work was to be credited to GH/JR or for that matter to other writers....frankly until u girls (esp u) pointed it out...some of the technicalities had completed missed me (still does!!) i can only see broad framework so i was always crediting the wrong people LOL

well shital drama did not need writers, imo...it was a matter of expediency..so i guess GH means to say the end as the end (remarriage). He may have been there on the team after that as serving notice himself( who knows?).

GH seems a bit of maverick...somehow i see his writing for MB the only saving grace..the soul has long left the show...i now can apprehend the complications for a writer when he is given absolutely little vision, how do u explain the love of RK when the storyteller himself doesn't know what that love signifies.....i guess storytellers have to move out of this cliched periphery of saying" the hero is in love with the heroine but does not know how to express it" a la Asad Khan or "the heroine does not know why she feels the way she does" a la Zoya Farooqi...*ducking any missiles from Su here*

I was reading Opti's description of the track in NBT above. while i don't know anything about NBT, i can still make complete sense of the track she describes. While credit is to Opti for describing it beautifully, i am also sure there is some specific flow in that entire sequence clearly underlying why circumstances conspire to describe that "pyaar ka ehsaas" between the protagonists Megha and Mohan....i see that entirely contrived in QH right now...it never felt contrived in IPK despite its many inconsistencies.....and i am saying this even when i can see a spark between Asad and Zoy

      sorry i rambled.....as usual....old habits die hard!!

      3. asad's mom loves her ex husband(rashid), but had made peace with the fact that he is gone from her life now.. after all, they divorced seventeen years ago. and asad will never accept him back. she thought he dumped her for shireen, but recently came to know that rashid was blackmailed into leaving them.. and that gave her a spark of hope. but then (i dint watch that part, so i dont know)

Sleepy curly aunty can put even an insomniac to sleep with her dialogue delivery and droopy eyelids..

ZGH Haan to do that na, not scene by scene but let us have it in chunks, like episode 1-3 or 1-5 types.........PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEJ

Zaroon knows that her dad left them and got married again. When he comes to meet when sidra invites him over for tea, kashaf's mom tells him everything. And has he connected her reluctance to trust him, her serious demeanor, dunno...

Zaroon told his parents when he was trying them to accept kashaf as his choice that her family history/background does not matter to him. Kashaf will be marrying him and his family and she would be the best choice for him..

He knows she had it tough, but in all his excitement of falling in love and marrying her, he has not given it much thought....He does promise/challenge Kashaf that he will change the way she is so unemotional about things in general.......and he is succeeding biiiiiiiiiiiiiiiig time:)

This amrapali gupta resembles narayani shastri a lot. By the way dont take me too seriously here, it takes me 5 seconds to figure out twins as twins......so those who know Narayani and see no resemblance, you are probably right...It is just me who is probably seeing similarities where there is none

    5. Shwethu, also to add to ur points

ofc this is my perception, and i may be completely wrong about it...there is one thing when u say something does not bother u (becos in the real scheme of things, it doesn't) but it is not necessary for people to connect the two aspects to explain a kind of behaviour....for example , Zaroon knows that Kashaf has had a diff upbringing but may still not connect that some of that uptightness comes from it...its not about intelligence...its about not paying that much heed to it...sensitivity to such things comes only with gradual understanding i guess for anyone...similarly it will take time for Kashaf to understand Zaroon's laidback nature...she may continue to mistake it for his upper class moorings...thats why these are two fascinating characters atm for me...

    7. QH question answer.. asad was some 8 years old when rashid left dilshad. villain bhabhi is actually unrelated to the khans.. zoya's dad(siddiqi saab) is shireen's rakhi brother or some such funda.

rashid and shireen had an affair, shireen had ayan.. rashid took ayan to dilshad, who was pregnant with najma at the time.( almost 2 years later, on najma's first birthday, gudiya factory incident happened.. a woman died in the fire that rashid lit.. rashid thinks he caused the death..) siddiqi saab blackmailed rashid to divorce dilshad and marry shireen ...

R did.. but he wanted to take asad with ayan because asad had grown very close to ayan in the two years they lived together. asad refused to leave his mom.

  31. Dia,

Did you watch NBT yesterday? A touching episode indeed. Love how they resolve the MUs soon and move on with the story.

MB has become one big messy show. RK's characterisation was the strength of the show at one time. Now they are indulging in all sorts of theatrics and Kameenapan for RK to raise the trps but it doesn't seem to be working. The latest is that he is going to chain Madhu to himself so that she does not run off. Guess it is high time they lock him up in some mental asylum. Can't help but love VD for his excellent portrayal of RK's pagalpan though. His dashing looks only adds to the deadly cocktail that is RK these days.

Veera telecast at 10.30 clocked higher trps than MB, an 8.30 show. Am happy that Veera is doing so well inspite of its time slot. It is going from strength to strength both in story terms as well as trp terms.

    1. Opti,
I saw your post, and watched NBT after that, hence the delay in getting back to you. Thanks for the heads up ... it was a really touching episode indeed, am glad I caught it! Loved the confrontation and the way they both came out with their grievances ... with Guru's confession, I guess the last of the MU's will also resolve. Now they finally know what the other was thinking and going through.

Veera is doing well ... an example of great storytelling, and I know I repeat myself, but I love the way every single loop is closed ... and closed quickly enough that the viewers don't get bored or start wondering ki yeh kya hua? Already Kartar has been caught, am sure Bakhtawar will also be caught for his fiddling ... the episodes do drag at times, but the detailing is meticulous, and that's what keeps the viewers engrossed, I think. This is the doing of the director - Maryada was very similar, and Maryada also had one of the best male characters I have seen on TV for a long time - Gaurav, who was such a thorough gentleman ... Nihal is another gentleman. After watching both these guys, I am totally off the angry young men of TV! :)))

      Delete
    2. I have only caught glimpses of Maryadha (its timing was too late) and liked whatever I saw, especially Gaurav. The gay subject was very sensitively handled. I too agree that Nihal is turning out to be quite the gentleman. I'm wary about Ratan reaction to him though once she comes to know that he was in some way responsible for Sampooran's death (which I am presuming here). I liked yesterday's episode where they showed the mare's refusal to let Nihal ride her. It finally relented and allowed him on her back only with Ranvi on her. I guess this is to symbolically show that Ratan may accept Nihal for Ranvi and Veera, although she may with time grow to love him.

    3. Dia,

The romance genre comes with its set of inherent limitations....the "angry young man" is a template that is done to death however holds promise simply becos unfortunately television has not made any progress with the treatment of simple themes in love....it tries to place too much of emphasis on the mantle of "herogiri" or "heroinegiri" in such matters..if they only treated such genres as simply human stories, they wouldn't be saddled with the pressure of making leads the epitome of everything right...So for many romantic themes, the "angry young man" riddled with angst seems an easy canvas...show the angst, show the pain and then show the recovery....kaboom alls wells in lover's paradise....alteast before hell breaks loose again...

The other problem also seems to be that this genre attracts a specific kind of viewership...usually younger people looking for some fantasy to match their sense of reality and make their reel and real co-incide so they are always looking for that edge of the seat romance and stories like IPK, MB, QH etc all seem to fill that in varied degrees

Nihal can make for an interesting love story with Ratan however storytellers may stop short of cutting that gordian knot or if they do they will try to walk around egg-shells becos they are dealing with some specific viewer sensibilities...if they do in any way ...i will be pleasantly surprised

from what i understand NBT is such an attempt...a simple human story of circumstances...and the slow buildup..the lack of high trps, if so, is only symptomatic of the viewer interest in such themes across the spectrum...mostly younger audiences expect thrill seeking romances and a larger section of the older audiences is happier dealing with kitchen politics having thrown romance out of the window.

      Delete
    4. After watching the recent angry young men on TV, Arnav, Asad and RK, and now SC (though I have seen very, very little of SC) I have come to the conclusion that 'angry young man' should remain the moniker for Amitabh Bacchhan. These guys are more 'angsty young men' ... and I don't think Indian TV can do them well ... or at least not for long. They are better in books. Inherently, the story is limited in terms of time span ... and for a daily soap, stretching the story is a must. Which is impossible for too long ... so after a while, they all go into the 'dikra' mode :) Or they become completely illogical, or brainless or psychotic ... I think all the ones I named above fall into one of those categories :)

Also it is true, they attract a specific kind of viewership for sure ... it's a fantasy tale, and for that reason it does attract a younger viewership - though not sure how that explains so many of us here :))) I guess most women are suckers for romance at all ages :) Give me a good romance and I will watch it ... but it has to be wrapped up in the requisite time frame, it does not lend itself for stretching like stale chewing gum. (Which is another reason I was ready to watch the Khushi-Viraf track - I felt the Arnav-Khushi track had been wrapped up with their re-marriage, there was nothing left to show in that).

Nihal-Ratan ... there are quite a few stumbling blocks there ... one is their situation, a rural setting - remarriage is not easy in that setting at all even today even though poor Ratan is already facing the brunt of being a single young woman with Bakhtawar and Kartar both having their eye on her ... I don't know how a second marriage is looked upon in the villages of India today ... even in an urban setting like Kya Hua Tera Vaada, the makers were having a tough time getting Mona to move ahead with another man after divorce. Don't know if that was because the TRP audience was not ready to accept it or some other reason.

Secondly, and even more difficult, we still don't know the Nihal-Sampooran connection. If Nihal IS responsible for Sampooran's death, that will put paid to any relationship between them, even if the setting didn't make it difficult enough already. I would think that if the makers plan a NR track, and more importantly, they progress it to plan a second marriage for Ratan, then Nihal will NOT be responsible for Sampooran's death ... there is no way Ratan would ally herself to him if that is the case. But I don't think the makers will go there ... the story is about Ranveera ... and the focus will stay there. This is one show that is devoid of romance, and is completely watchable anyway.

NBT ... exactly, Rekha ... and that is why I say, me and TRP's don't usually see eye to eye ;) Simple realistic stories with deep emotional conflicts have very few takers ... emotional melodrama and kitchen politics have far more.

    5. Dia,
On ur point of why so many of us women here....i have a take....there is some appeal for an angsty romance but the point is there should be some reason for that angst...and the narrative should be able to justify that......to me ASR's angst was understandable..it had a strong back story and even without Arnav's inhibitions about love, there was reason for his angst...it played out reasonably well if u ignore some core inconsistencies (until it went downhill for various reasons)

Forget hard core angst...even simple personality issues can make for good story telling in such genres if explored well ZGH is a prime example....

On RK...well i don't know much becos i did not follow the story at all from the start, just used to read up updates, sometimes watch VD spew his sarcasm which by itself fit in well with his character, a film hero...all those puns were amusing to watch...but then i failed to understand the man who forgave his mother for her apparent sin but could not forgive the slight to his ego by a woman...actually that's where i lost him.....for a story i can still accept his junoon, call it his unresolved passion but all this public barbaric behaviour is perhaps meant for appealing to a different denominator of audience after a while..ab itna bhi na girao ki utana bhi mushkil ho jaaye.

on QH, i wouldn't call Asad angsty ...for me he is simply a man who distrusts love becos of his experiences and so i can watch that he is contradicting himself . But the screenplay is too contrived ,making a simple expression of love look out of place. Added to that is the attendant drama that is irritating...i ff all the drama and when if I do watch Asad-Zoya it looks peculiarly awkward for a romance...there is no kichaav i feel until someone tells me it is there...its as if the words have to work a magic...i feel nothing when i see them on screen...

SC, i don't watch so no idea...haven't warmed up to the premise altho i hear that GR is decent..for me, SC's reluctance to romance for a social commitment seems a kill-joy..i never understood the mutual exclusivity of the aspect unless SC wants to become an ascetic...

I also think that there would be nothing more than a couple of month's for such romances to play out...for how long can u keep saying....i want her around but i don't know why....why do i feel the way i do....it has to reach the zenith or nadir soon enuf

in both RK and Asad's or for that matter SC's case, this is the reason i feel story tellers must not pick up a thread just for the heck of it....if u have a strong reason to show that dilemma let ur narrative bear it out...let it not become mere semantics, which anyone can keep arguing and winning points on...

Since u brought up AB's name above, i have to say this...Watch AB in Trishul..the angsty guy...coveting Hema Malini, his stepbrother's gal for a while and his surrender to Rakhi in one of his emotional moments...a simple track of romance done very beautifully ...Ab despite all his grey elements there makes u fall for him in that moment.
ofc that was 2 hr movie and this is a teleshow....different sets of rules play out here...

    6. Rekha,
I understood ASR's angst too ... but honestly, I don't understand RK's at all, and Asad's to some extent only ... but whether it is because I followed IPK completely, and have not followed the other two shows at all, or very little ... or whether it is because neither of the latter two was able to convince me hence I did not follow them, I don't know! :) And since they are just TV shows, I don't bother too much about which way it happened ... like I said earlier ... if I like a show, I watch it, if I don't, I don't bother much about it :)))
SC, I have probably watched about two episodes in full and snatches of a few more, I caught scenes of SC's fb's about his mother drowning ... the actor was good enough that I caught his angst, and probably it is understandable there as well ... but I haven't watched further. This was just off the cuff ... don't bother about me and my flippant remarks! :)

Amitabh Bacchhan ... two little known gems of his - Jurmana and Bemisaal (with Vinod Mehra and Raakhee) ... if you haven't seen these, then give them a watch ... very unusual movies, and fantastic interweaving of relationships, very sensitively done. Both were brilliant movies, both define angst ... but in such unusual ways ... and angst in the hero and heroine both ... especially Bemisaal. I would love to see a good TV serial done on Bemisaal - that is a story that could be stretched to a good 12-18 months if done well.
I always loved AB in his sensitive roles ... Mili and Abhimaan were another couple of gems.

    7. hehehe....its just that the romance genre interests me more than any other genre so i bak bak...neither am i bothered too much about Asad and RK now...i read updates...i have the pleasure of not having zee, colors so no temptation to watch and wonder why o why....one IPK is enuf...i am enjoying this phase of not being attached...that one half year was like a curse...LOL

i have watched almost all of AB's movies (only missed his movies of the late 80s and early 90s, which i have no regret abt)...including the ones u mentioned above...one of the other unusual movies done by AB is Alaap....its a must for any music fan....
Koi gaata main so jaata by Yesudas...a favourite melody in that mellifluous voice (despite a pronounced southie accent)...i can actually go to sleep listening to that song....
it also has a lovely bhajan...
in fact all the songs..the movie is very unusual...would recommend for the music alone...

I watched it on a flight ... I remember the girl was Shanaya ... after that i was imagining Sanaya in all the scenes ... :))) The first half had many songs ... And some cycling and running. The rest is a blur ... :)))

Wait, there was a treasure hunt also.

    2. he he...Yaar I ignored all that........ab new kiddos on the block so they have to show off their muscles, looks, blah blah...

      Why I liked the movie

Rohan the rich kid is not all bratty, is a softy and wants to do something other than joining the family business....

Abhi, KJ version of a poor guy, is not all idealistic, is ambitious, cut throat even..

The contrast...here Rohan is more laidback...Abhi not so...

Shanaya is not dumb, naive perhaps, but knows her self worth...frankly the boys characters are much better written...anyway..

the surprise was the support cast each of whom had a backstory, well written charcters, great casting....the confrontation between the guy who played SUDO and Rishi kapoor towards the end was brilliant....Never expected that....

I loved it yaar, I know agar chance mila toh I will watch it again..

    4. Kayoze Irani ... yes, I read that somewhere, and I saw him with Boman at some award do on tv recently ... he was good, no wonder!!!

I wish they had given more depth to the back stories ... I liked them too, but they got slightly lost in all the fluff ... Varun's story was the only one which was done well, maybe I've forgotten the others ;) Oh yes, Shanaya was also, but in less depth ... All I remember is the first half finished and I was wondering ... hua kya abhi tak?
I felt the same for Zindagi Dobara ... it was like a DCH, but much more superficial ... DCH managed to be very deep, all the three love stories touched your heart.

The only good scene was the one with Sultan and his son.

This is what I expected RK to do, Yes HE is possessive borderline obsessive about MB, but instead of kidnapping MB, I expected him to bring up the shaadi ka contract and say well you have not paid me back.......

I am watching Chan chan bey and see the curls have disappeared, I just wish they gave her the Before going to SpL, airport wala look, she looked soooooooooooo adorable in that one...either the make up artist is confused or Sanaya is not keeping well cos I remember during the kidnapping drama, they had to put the extra make up to hide how overworked and tired she was....

    3. I like the current look, the plait over one shoulder, she had the curls and more make up during the wedding, but it's toned down now for the camp. She did say that she will keep changing her look, her clothes and hair styles ... I guess once Chanchan gets married they will give her a different look, more mature. Right now, the plait and pony tails are nice for the young unmarried girl look.

Maybe she is not keeping well, she turned down Jhalak and mentioned her health ... she does tend to get sick, I remember the hate wedding scenes when she had lost her voice ... yet the poor girl shot all the scenes even with a dubbed voice ...

    What is happening here?
How did I miss out on so much of QH discussions?

    J,
PIO card- I don't know the exact law- but Zoya was not born in India. She was born in the US- so she is an American citizen. She was orphaned here in India, when her mom came searching for her father- stayed for a brief period- prob a month or so- in an orphanage and was adopted by Zeenat's parents- who are not really blood relatives, I think.

    Rekh,

...i guess storytellers have to move out of this cliched periphery of saying" the hero is in love with the heroine but does not know how to express it" a la Asad Khan or "the heroine does not know why she feels the way she does" a la Zoya Farooqi...*ducking any missiles from Su here*

    MISSILE******************

    LOL!
Asad : Does not want to express it!
He knows he is in love- but says it is better that they both forget this ansuni khichav- because he does not want to hurt her. Asad does not want to believe in love, because of what it has done to his mom- has a chip off the old block complex- thinks he will end up hurting someone if he falls in love- would rather settle for a mechanical relationship with no complications....

And he is stupid enough to believe he can control his heart.

But the sweet thing is, he is hiding his feelings for her sake. He feels she will be better off without him.

Zoya: Actually I am surprised that Gul has taken her this far- believe me, I thought she will be a bumble bee- but madam has the guts to tell Mr. Khan he is weird because he does not console her when she is crying! Is it friendship? Is it infatuation? Is it love? She has not named this longing for him, because the man confuses her.

Right now she has forgotten, 'mujhe farak kyu padta hai' and started cracking 'what is wrong with Mr. Khan'- she is very selfless you see. *wink* Once she cracks Mr. Khan, she will crack herself...(LOL. Dia, stick to your decision not to watch, because Zoya is extra loud now. If you don't know her, you'll think she is crazy....that she is too!)'

    Shwetha,

Why the precap of gusht bugged me- because it seemed odd that a snail would suddenly take giant leaps...BAS!PLUS it was too filmy! I wondered what had gone wrong with the writer and director and Gulji! I was so off, I thought I'd stop watching the show!

Shireen- the bird's nest actress- watch out for her, Shwetha. She is a fantastic actress. Better than Shalini - Dilshad.
She is dumb...blank as a white paper... yet loveable and without malice. Humeira's Abbu is munh boli bhaiya only, so Ayan and Humeira are not cousins!

    Dia,
The Proposal- quite a nice movie. I have no expectations from this track...but I like it that they have roped in Rakesh Bedi to play Dhulandhar Bhatavdekar...have you watched Rang Birangi? Any way, I hope it does not drag.

This is what I continue to love about the show...it is not entirely realistic, but it is convincing mostly...and I laugh a lot watching it. And I love KSG- Surbhi chemistry. The next best to Sarun. And KSG is a fantastic actor, at least as good as Barun, though he has his off days too!

    And the costumes!
    Love Dilshad's suits.
Humeira's costumes are traditional, yet trendy. Zoya's white suit when she goes to the cemetery was beautiful....otherwise, just OK costumes!

    For Rekh,

Ending with 2 quotes which is what I see in Asad and Zoya:

    This is Asad:

“One day you will ask me which is more important? My life or yours? I will say mine and you will walk away not knowing that you are my life.”
    Kahlil Gibran

This is what Zoya should realise:

“The Reality of The Other Person Lies Not In What He Reveals To You, But What He Cannot Reveal To You.
Therefore, If You Would Understand Him, Listen Not To What He Says, But Rather To What He Does Not Say.”
    ― Kahlil Gibran

    1. Su sweetheart,

THo i was ducking...i will happily face the missile....for ur words above....
It is a very strange co-incidence...i watched today's ZGH episode and some of the scenes actually lingered on and later...its this very quote of Khalil Gibran that occurred to me.
“The Reality of The Other Person Lies Not In What He Reveals To You, But What He Cannot Reveal To You.
Therefore, If You Would Understand Him, Listen Not To What He Says, But Rather To What He Does Not Say.”

Today Kashaf epitomised this for me....Her words ""Mujhe toot ke bhikar ne se khauf laagta hai" had some strange resonance....

Su, did not know that u will quote this for another lead in a romantic serial....if u see resonance no doubt, u have delved deeper into that story than me....maybe i view QH with a disinterested eye

Su, for u an extract of another of Khalil Gibran's gems (on love)

When love beckons to you, follow him,
Though his ways are hard and steep.
And when his wings enfold you yield to him,
Though the sword hidden among his pinions may wound you.
And when he speaks to you believe in him,
Though his voice may shatter your dreams
as the north wind lays waste the garden.

......so it goes on and ends with a lovely ode to love....

Love has no other desire but to fulfill itself.
But if you love and must needs have desires, let these be your desires:
To melt and be like a running brook that sings its melody to the night.
To know the pain of too much tenderness.
      To be wounded by your own understanding of love;
And to bleed willingly and joyfully.
      To wake at dawn with a winged heart and give thanks for another day of loving;
      To rest at the noon hour and meditate love's ecstasy;
      To return home at eventide with gratitude;
And then to sleep with a prayer for the beloved in your heart and a song of praise upon your lips.

    2. Thanks, Rekh.

Unconditional love- the only form of love that exists!

If your love is not without ifs and buts, you have not loved!

No one says it as well as Khalil Gibran!
      Still,

"“Authentic Love - When you truly love another human being, you extend to them the dignity of risk. Love them without fear and embrace them without restrictions. Accept them without wanting them to change to your ideas of their person-hood. Watch them evolve and grow into the realization of their own potential. There comes a time when you recognize they need to journey on without you. Love them enough to let them go. Bless them and release them.”
      Julie Hardesty

I think this is more like the love of a mother, who has to let her children go..

"Soul mates aren't perfect people. They can come into your life and provide polar emotional experiences from intense love to intense pain. Growth comes from both. And a soul mate helps you grow. It isn't just "...and they lived happily ever after" but "...and they lived!" ~ From my mentor ~ Lori Chidori Phillips”
      Dianne Rosena Jones

QH: I was watching it disinterestedly too- there is a lot of noise there that can distarct you from the love story, but once I saw a glimpse of Gul's magic, I knew I had to have patience. But I liked what you wrote above, it is better not to get addicted to a show, to the extent it becomes a vice.

IPKKND: The whole concept was Gul's. Even when GH talks about him and Janaki bearing the pain with the protagonist, he has revealed in other interviews that it was Gul's vision all through. It is quite believable, when I see that magic in QH and not in MB. I respect Gul for always putting it forth as a team work. And she has always credited her creative team more than the actors themselves, which is how it should be.
Never has she claimed laurels for herself for its success.

I see fans clamouring for more of Asad and Zoya in QH, but I am glad they are taking it slow and weaving other tracks and characters....sometimes looks a little disjointed, but if you are trying to see the creator's vision, a lot of it makes sense.

Since I am in a quote mode, this is how I read Gul:

“Goodbye, said the fox. And now here is my secret, a very simple secret. It is only with the heart that one can see rightly. What is essential is invisible to the eye.”
Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, The Little Prince

This is one book I loved, so one more from there- so profound! Not applicable to the love stories we watch, apt for a farewell.

“And when your sorrow is comforted (time soothes all sorrows) you will be content that you have known me. You will always be my friend. You will want to laugh with me. And you will sometimes open your window, so, for that pleasure . . . And your friends will be properly astonished to see you laughing as you look up at the sky! Then you will say to them, 'Yes, the stars always make me laugh!' And they will think you are crazy. It will be a very shabby trick that I shall have played on you...”
Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, The Little Prince

ZGH: I'd love to watch it with all the recommendations, I will, as soon as I get my old fast connection back. Right now, it is with my SIL who is putting it to better use.

    3. Su,

Magic between couples seems to lie in the eyes of the beholder. I see the magic between RK-Madhu even during this track where RK has gone crazy and is behaving like a royal prick whereas Azad-Zoya scenes seem forced and lukewarm, maybe because I've really not warmed up to Surbhi.

      Delete

    4. Am not watching QH at all now ... thanks for the warning, Su! I agree with Opti, magic between couples lies in the eyes of the beholder ... I never warmed to Surbhi at all, even though I concede now that her acting has improved slightly, but that connect never happened. And the same with MB ... although here I like the actress ... but now it is RK's character which has put me off big time. I liked him in bits earlier, when he showed signs of having a brain ... but now he's behaving like a madman, I cannot see the ishq in his junoon ... I only see a self-centred sadist, and I cannot understand why Madhu should love him at all ...

So now it's NBT, Veera and Chanchan for me :))) And these are shows which are more interesting to just watch and enjoy ... no dissection and analysis! Even NBT is more about story telling than emotional conflicts :)))

    5. Dia,

From what they are showing of RK, I think he suffers from narcissistic personality disorder. All the characteristics match the portrayal. I still enjoy watching RK-Madhu because of their dynamically explosive relationship which is not necessarily one of love at this point but makes for engaging viewing, particularly RK's sharp tongue and Madhu's mix of disgust, pain and frustration. VD and DD are doing an excellent job in their respective roles.
