Meet the parents ... a fairly embarrassing experience for Manav, considering he's known already as Susu boy, and He Who Was Bitten in an Unmentionable Place, by various family members already. The problem with having a bindaas carefree family is that they can say the most embarrassing things. Kasturi Dadi was the cutest of the lot.
Meet the Parents ... or Not ... a narrow escape from bumping into Uma Ben for Chhanchhan ... of course, if they had met, that would have been the end of ChanMan's budding romance.
Am beginning to think I was right after all ... Sanaya can create chemistry with pretty much anyone.
I liked the ChhanMan scenes today ... Farhan is beginning to get his act together ... although voice still needs attention, but the right expressions are coming in. And Sanaya is a doll ... any guy would fall for Chhanchhan, with the sweetness of her nature, and her unthinking honesty. But how will she deal with Uma Ben?!
The stricter the parents, the more rebellious the kids ... and the more they hide from the parents. While Chhanchhan's family knows every detail about Manav, Uma Ben still has no clue about this new friend in Manav's life. Also it just struck that Manav did not tell his mother about the boy in Mansi's life, and preferred to deal with things on his own.

Just to add ... I found it very interesting ... and amusing ... that Uma Ben's list of virtues she does NOT want in her bahu, are all culled from her encounters with Chhanchhan. Chhanchhan seems to have made a very deep impression on Uma Ben. Considering that Uma Ben is such a shrewd judge of character, and has zero tolerance for fools, shows that Uma Ben already recognises Chhanchhan as a worthy adversary.
Am loving the way Sanaya is playing Chhanchhan ... especially the ChanMan romance. It is so sweet and real ... so different from the dhak dhak romance of Arshi ... yet it builds its own sense of anticipation, and gives you a good feeling ... even though we know the storm is coming. Sweet everyday 'boy meets girl' romance.
Loved the little scene outside the cake shop ... the way Chhanchhan first plays innocent, then confesses that she returned the allergy pills, so that Manav could get them ... because she wanted him to attend the party ... and her sudden shyness as she realises what she just said, and the quick cover up ... which leaves Manav very satisfied indeed :)
The new promo ... loved the little sign language of "Call me?" "I'll call you ..."

I am back!!!! :D awww...have been following chanchan regularly.. :D awww I am totally falling for chanman hook, line and sinker!! :D and the story just gets better and better!!! :D :D
ReplyDeleteSanaya...you ROCK!!! how she managed to go from gunjan to khushi was pretty easy...those two were totally opposite characters...but how she has managed to bring about the subtelities in chanchan SO different from khushi... seriously, a standing ovation to her!!! :))))
and I agree with you dia, she can create chemistry with just about ANYBODY!!! :D she is like the SRK of television.. :P I believe he is one actor who can create chemistry with anybody and now Sanaya has proved it right the second time... IPK hangover is there for sure on people's minds...but I can BET that there'll be def a lot of ChanMan fans too.. :D and the best part is that these fans will be sensible ones and not just hormonal teens!! :)
Because the ChanMan love story is nothing extraordinary...like Farhan says "its an adorable tale".. and what makes it adorable is the way the characters have been written.. usually in love stories the characters are sort of imbalanced in themselves...so one is shy while the other is outgoing etc.. but in this tale we see that both the characters are normal, real people...equally selfless and equally mischevious at times.. :)) best bit is...both of them are SO innocent!! :D
Farhan's acting...TBH, I am not at all bothered.. if I could sit through Mohit for the major part of MJHT, esp when Samrat's character wasnt all that adorable too, I can sit through Farhan for sure...plus I think he's improved a lot on his expressions.. dialogue delivery will improve with time..so I am not getting impatient at all..theatre and TV are two completely different mediums...maybe he is having a hard time switching.. who knows? But I for one, would def be disappointed now if they change him, because I am kind of used to seeing him as Maanav..even though acting wise he is nothing compared to Sanaya.. because his eyes and his smile have that innocence required for Maanav's character.. so I do hope the makres don't replace him now!
Umaben Borisagar is not exactly my cup of tea right now.. :P although she def makes me laugh at times.. :D I CANNOT imagine how on earth chanchan manages to live in that house... :D so I am eagerly waiting for that part of the story.. but right now, totally enjoying ChanMan.. :))))
and ever since the song are re are yeh kya hua came on ChanMan..I was waiting for my fav line from the song "hum me tum me kuch toh hain, kuch nahi hain kya..." and was wondering when they'll use it and they used it yest..and all wrong!!! :P dammit!! I should have been the editor.. :P they should have used to today just after chanchan tells him that she wanted him to come to the party and he asks why.. or during their staring session in the party when some abysmal song was playing in the BG..it was SO out of place, that song!! :P the earlier one was better, "kismat ka hain khul jaana" ... :D Maanav, you aren't the only one saying that upon meeting Sanaya... :D :D
I feel like making a ChanMan VM on are re are and including all the right moments at the proper lines!!! :P
HOW cute was it that Maanav let chanchan ride the back when they went to the cake shop and he was pillion, while AS SOON AS he got a hint of chanchan's interest in him he's like I'll drive and u sit behind me! :D soo typical!!! ROFL!!! :D don't know if the makers intended to show it in that fashion or if I am seeing too much into it.. :D

I am SO glad Sanaya chose to do this show.. :)) I am waiting now for IPL to get over so that the show REALLY picks up pace.. :)))

If we could sit through Mohit, as well as Samrat's very irritating ways, and still love Gunjan and the SG story, then Chhanchhan is gonna be an easy watch! Besides, Mohit did get somewhat better with time, so here's hoping Farhan does too. Or maybe we just got used to him :)))
Arshi was totally out of a Mills and Boon, and Barun's looks added to that feeling ... so did Sanaya's ... they were both such a strikingly good looking pair. Totally fairy tale romance ... or rather, typical Mills and Boon type stuff... all girls dream of a brooding angsty hero whose heart beats for them alone ... it fulfilled a lot of fantasies for many women!
ChhanMan is different ... it's far more real ... yesterday I was laughing at Chhanchhan's pretended innocence ... "I never knew you were coming to the party ... allergy pills? What are they?" And today she blurts out that she overheard him and returned the pills so that he could come to the party ... her expressions when she says 'I wanted you to come' and then her embarrassment ... awww, felt like pulling her cheeks there! She is SOOOOO adorable in those scenes!!! How does she do it?! And love the way both are going on repeating ... 'we're friends, we're friends' ... so true to life!
Hehe ... loved your comment about Manav changing from pillion to driver as soon as he realised Chhanchhan's interest ... again so typical! I hope he does the same when his love story is exposed to his mom ... he will have to take the lead there, and very firmly. Even more than Chhanchhan, I can't imagine her parents being happy with the marriage, once they know that Manav is Uma Ben's son ... as the whole family knows how vindictive she has been to Purvi. It will be interesting to see how the marriage actually happens.

Actually manav is growing on me and I am the only one in the forum world who does not have a problem with manav. Did anybody see barun in his first serial, shraddha, I have and liked some bits of him so much that i followed his next and next.
My mom asked me yesterday, doesn't manav look like so and so we know. Is he a new actor. And she liked him as well.
I am at present rushed for time but I have a theory on why I am liking this serial and I will get round to penning it down hopefully by next week. :-)
Anyway enjoying it for now as also your writeups after each episode.

Enjoyed today's easy breezy episode. It is not bad watching CC's and Manav's cute romance. Sanaya can create chemistry with anyone, she has an innocence and vulnerability about her which adds to to this chemistry. None of Khushi's heavy breathing for CC, Sanaya has really worked hard to make it all different yet romantic. FK same as yesterday, better in expressions, but dialogue delivery is poor. He is here to stay and I will go with the flow.
ReplyDeleteNow that a month is over, my opinion on ML is, it was a mistake to cast him with Sanaya. It is not his fault, but the producers, they were going for fresh pairing and got a raw actor. He is not bad but is an average actor. He is working hard, but time and hard work are not the only ingredients for good acting. Certain things are inherent. So, he will stay in the show, will improve, but remain average. No problem, there are so many such actors on TV/films and still have successful shows. Look at the top TRP shows.

DeleteYou put into words what I was struggling to say ... the difference between the ChhanMan love story and the Arshi one. As Khushi, Sanaya had to convey the passion and desire of Khushi, while keeping the innocence intact ... and she did that beautifully. Very, very beautifully, in fact ... now seeing the difference here, I realise again how well she did that.
Here, it's a much sweeter, gentler romance, the boy-next-door meets girl-next-door type ... and Sanaya manages to convey a completely different type of innocence and vulnerability, the shy, sweet stirrings of first love, attraction, LIKING a person and wanting to get to know him better ... I love the way Chhanchhan is much more open, recognises her own attraction, and in a moment of unthinking honesty, blurts it out ... and then promptly gets all embarrassed and covers it up quickly. That little scene outside the cake shop was so cute ... and so real!
I agree with you about Farhan ... am getting used to him and starting to accept him ... he is improving, no doubt, but he is a very average actor. A slightly better actor, or a slightly more experienced one, would have made a lot of difference. His dialogue delivery still needs a lot of work ... hope he works on that next.
Coming to Sanaya, she is doing well and seems to be enjoying, but then when has she seemed bored of her work. So, for her sake I want this show to be a success. That is why this ML selection has bothered me. With a better actor they could have retained many of her viewers. PH knows about her fan base and about the iconic jodi, they could have guessed that some amount of expectations will be there, now Arshi cannot be recreated, but with a better pair, they could have met viewer's expectations at least half way. From the online chatter many hardcore "Arshians" have already dropped out...hope new "ChhanChhanians" are getting added too. Yes, this is a story of CC and UB, but each character will play a part because it is a family drama, and Manav is the catalyst.
ReplyDeleteFrom interviews it is clear the show was put together quite hastily. The producer may have had a story idea, but the actual soap was done in bit of a hurry.
Sanaya said that the story on paper is interesting and execution has to match it. I agree...they have to become better here. They are good, but plenty of scope to improve. This is the place IPK scored initially and audience goodwill lasted even when the tracks deteriorated. The creators of CC have to get a handle on that. Sanaya has brought hype, visibility and tons of viewers to the show, now the makers have to entertain them. Subtlety and originality may not be their forte, but if humour is, then do that well, if it is family drama over love stories, then do that well. Stick to your strengths and execute it properly.
Finally fill in the gaps, at least through dialogues, UB could have asked Ranjana and Sanjana about their "maika" trip and closed that loop. We could have been told by Purvi or someone else that her father has gone to "gaanv" or another place to look for work or something, he simply disappeared. These small things will always enhance the drama and they are easy fixes. So, this is my first month report. There could be more but right now I am tired of typing ;))

DeleteBTW, it is Uma here again, Sanaya got nominated in best actress category for Indian Television Awards, YIPEE! Hope she gets plenty of votes from IPK viewers. If she wins it will be her first individual recognition for Khushi. The competition is tough with likes of Sakshi Tanwar and Sandhya bindadi etc. A lot of infighting among IPK fans could also undermine voting. So fingers crossed...but at least she got nominated unlike many awards last year. Don't know if you have seen Sanaya's interview of last year's ITA awards, where she said so what if did not get best actor award at least she got best jodi,felt slightly sad for her.

Again, agree with you on most of your review ... the makers should stick to their strength, which is family drama, but in a lighter vein than the usual saas bahu melodrama. They made a wrong choice for hero, but as time goes on and he settles in, it will become more difficult to replace him ... shall we hope he also gets another movie and leaves? ;) Am sure there will be no clamor to retain him!!!
DeleteThe rest ... yes, the show was put together in a hurry ... my feeling is the makers have added the love story at the last minute, as that is really not their forte. And that's been done to retain the Sanaya fan base. Again, that's where they went wrong with the choice of male lead ... so let's hope that the execution of the show picks up. It seems to me that the main vision that was narrated to Sanaya was the story post-marriage ... that is what she is more excited about. But from the pace, it looks like marriage is still a couple of months away ... at least till end of IPL, if not more.
Many shows do attract more viewers as they go on and get settled ... I never usually watch a show from the beginning, I usually settle into it when I see particularly interesting promo or something ... even if the regular love story viewers drift away, hopefully the family drama audience will tune in later.
Anyway, am not going to worry much about that from now ... I am enjoying the show, so will continue watching as long as it is on air. Sanaya kept me hooked to IPK even when Khushi was massacred ... here, I like both Sanaya and Chhanchhan, so I'm good to go!
And I TOTALLY agree with your remark about giving small dialogues to fill in the gaps ... that was my pet peeve with IPK too ... just say a line or two, to explain the most glaring loopholes! It took them six months or more to say that Mamaji had gone to America to set up an office!
DeleteHere I'm waiting for a line about where Purvi's father has disappeared ... and also the fifth friend ... add a line saying he's gone to find work in another town, and the fifth friend had just come to town for the wedding, and has gone back home ... small things like this complete the scenes. It was good that we saw Chhanchhan's entire family today at the party!
And YESSSS ... I am so happy Sanaya got nominated for the ITA awards this year!!! Belated recognition ... but at least it has come! Good for her ... don't think she will win, but she definitely deserves to! Not just for the role of Khushi, but for the sheer hard work and total dedication ... and for the way she played the role when the writing went down the tubes! All the other actresses are in author backed roles.
DeleteBarun not nominated ... didn't he win last year? I guess his acting in the last six months of the show was really not up to the mark, he was riding on earlier glory and sleepwalking through his role ... some of the actors nominated have definitely done far better work. And there are quite a few of them. There do seem to be quite a few strong roles for guys on telly these days.
Not that the awards mean anything much ... Gopi vhau (the earlier one) has gotten some nine awards for her work ... am still reeling from that!!! But still ... it would be so good for Sanaya to get recognition of her work ... Khushi made her so popular, after all, and she did the role complete justice!
Much better episidoes than I expected. I am liking they are sticking to simple love story and most importantly sanaya's performance. Uma ben reminds me of someone who I can't stand in real life lol same to same matalb khud mein woh khobi ho ya na ho par bahun mein woh khobi honi chahiye. Supriya is amazing I agree with sanaya performing with supriya will definately help her.

Coming to sanaya I am soo happy she is nominated though I know she is not gonna win but still yayyyyyyyyyy. She is getting noticed and praised for her work bas thats enough for me. I am LOVING Sanaya all over again ... every day she reminds me why I fell in love with this girl! She makes you feel each and every emotion she is going through on screen. And she is looking so young ... in the scenes with the dogs, she looks about 16!
UB actually reminds me of a lady I know, though that lady was much nicer ... but the same views on 'what will people say', I will get the best bahu for my son etc etc :))) I think there are many people like that in real life.
And yesssss, SO thrilled that Sanaya is nominated this year! She wasn't even nominated last year, and it was really unfair, when almost the entire cast got nominations. Am glad the industry has woken up to her talent and dedication ... about time!!!

First of all, they selected a newbie, when they had almost 50 applicants ... they have such an experienced cast, the guy sticks out like a sore thumb ... and if you're not happy, then change him quietly. God knows, Appy ... am fed up! Keep the guy or replace him ... I don't much care ... but put an end to all the rumors! The rumors about BS leaving/not leaving spoiled the end of IPK too ... can't enjoy the show while all this nonsense is going on! Don't want the same thing happening here ... so I am not going to think about it. If it happens, it happens. I am okay either way. But if they are going to replace him, makes no sense to wait for another month ... unless they put a halt to the romance for now. It will be stupid to start off the romance between CC and one Manav, and then have her marry another Manav, we'll feel she's marrying a different guy!
DeleteI was thinking the same Dia, it will look like CC IS marrying another guy. Replacements have happened in other shows with less noise...I guess IPK cast has most vocal fans and media is milking it for all it is worth.
