Will post links - hope it's not Mohit! The guy is cute, but he can't act! Suddenly there seem to be a lot of names in the running!
Waiting for more news this week, including telecast date and time.
Will tag the show's name when it is final ... Sony website says Coming Soon - Chhanchhan, so do both the promos ... but all the articles keep saying Modern Bahu.
Name finalized - Chhanchhan.
Telecast date and time finalised - From 25th March. Mon-Thurs 9 pm
Sanaya at the Sony CID Veerta Awards Red Carpet ... her new look as Chhanchhan? Love the look - she looks gorgeous! Sleeves are very Gujju but the fishtail look is very IN ... the latest trend these days. And I love the two toned dupatta - subtle and smart. Seems that Chhanchhan is going to be very stylish and trendy ... very different from both Gunjan and Khushi. What fun

These last two are the edited Sanaya parts of the segment. So no specific look for Chhanchhan ... like most normal girls, she will change her clothes and her style every day, not be in the multicolored uniform that Khushi and Gunjan wore of same style, different colors! Thank God!
i love the dogs too!
ReplyDeleteAnd I love this PH...the way they got the dogs into the promo...now, that is creativity and clean entertainment!
DeleteNOW I AM EXCITED!
THe dogs were really cute.......in fact, post IPKKND, Sanaya is looking rested and younger too.........hope this schedule is not as crazy as the last one was for her>
ReplyDeleteMohit? Where did he come from now? Wasn't Varun supposed to be finalised as ML?
Sanaya looks very fresh and beautiful - She really is looking very rested. I liked her in the first and the 3rd promo. In the first promo she was looking a bit like Khushi but in the 3rd promo she is looking very different. Looking forward to this show. Seems like the actor playing the role of Sanaya's father Ashish Kaul is coming on 4 different serials at the same time Gurbaani, Lifeline, Modern Bahu and episodic. Wonder how is the PH going to manage the dates of this actor. At least till the marriage happens the father of the female lead is going to be an important role - let's see.
DeleteLoved the promos. She is stunning as ever. I am hoping I will be able to see this new series.
ReplyDeleteOn a personnel note. My new grandson has arrived. He is called Jack and is adorable. He looks just like his sister did when she was born. So pleased that he his here and baby and mother are doing well.
I will catch up with you all later.

Vishal who? Did the Barun/Varun name scare them off?
DeleteChalo, jo bhi hota hai so acche ke liye hota hai.
Now I can't wait for 25 March :))))
Thanks for sharing the new promo and news Jaya. This must be the promo they were getting ready to shoot when SBS aired news of Chanchan.
latest, news says that vishal tweeted that he got a movie offer, so he will not be working in the serial.. again the male lead is a question mark.
Deletemohit's name is in the mix, and mohit is currently jobless, so i personally think there is a strong possibility that it might be mohit. because the bahu's husband does not need to be a strong character or anything.
looks like the sony higher-ups are already tired of the online drama. (or maybe it is all a publicity gimmick, if yes, then it is working well!)
DeleteNo vishal anymore :-)
Can I say thank god though I kind of liked him in bhagya vidhaata :-)
Now will wait for new news.
No please, no Mohit - his acting skills leave much to be desired, even if the character does not require him to be a strong character........whoever they choose, I hope it's for the right reason...........
Deleteoh wow..4th promo looks nice!! :)) although her attitude in the promo 4 seems exactly how khushi would react, her voice is different....very mellow and sweet, like gunjan's was.. plus, I remember Sanaya saying that she wants to break out of khushi, so I'm sure the character will be different from khushi... :))
Deleteanyway, abt the male lead, I was actually looking forward to that varun-sanaya pairing.. :( and I saw a few videos of this vishal guy too, he isn't too bad... I think arjun will be too old for the role.. and Barun too, plus barun's out of question.. so Mohit just might be that person... :) although Mohit can't act, he got lots better towards the end of MJHT and was quite good in the serious scenes...we don't have to worry abt chemistry too, because this couple can be cute.. and thats what the story determines I guess since its a family drama.. :))
although I personally want her to be opposite another person, just to improve her acting skills, I would be more than happy if I get MoNaya on my screen again.. :)) plus interviews of them together... :))
anyway, hope they select the best one.. they've already started shooting acc to news, so I think they must've already finalised or are the verge of it..
i know that there are people who have moved on from IPK.. but since i came to this blog with IPK, i exercise the right to post IPK stuff everywhere :D

DeleteI don't think any one of us will ever move away from IPK - it was a very "sweet spot" in our lives, once upon a time .... move on, yes we all will/have, but move away - naaaaaaahhhhh...........just look at all the creativity IPKKND unleashed from storytellers to VM-makers....abhi bhi uss ka mazaa dheema nahin hua...... look forward to seeing/hearing more gems in the future.

LOL.
I don't think anyone can move on from IPK, at least not me...and not when you go on a posting spree like this. :D
Loved that FF...so beautifully written! And the best of the best snaps!
What expressions! What an actor! What an idiot!
It was the role of a lifetime!
Now I know why I want to move on...every time I see a VM of IPK, I see Barun's expressions, admire him, then feel like taking a cricket bat and hitting him on his head, along with two ladies who know him well... LOL.
I guess I want to move on from that feeling!
Thanx again, J.

Wow.......Rag1n1 does it AGAIN! a fitting welcome to Sanaya!
DeleteThanks Jaya.......
and now i am confused.. four promos.. featuring only one character! is that how serials are promoted ? or are they gonna call it sanaya's show? the internet is strangely silent on the serial, the show's thread on IPK forum has turned into a chatclub, why so much secrecy? who cares enough about who the male lead is? why no more promos? anyone who's watching the channel=can you tell me, is the promo aired regularly?
ReplyDeletewould the public watch the show only because it is sanaya's show? or will they drop the serial depending on the male lead? dont you think there will be a customary one week quarantine like we all did for saraswatichandra?
Jaya,
DeleteThe promos are coming quite regularly on Sony TV but it is only of San's promo. No promo showing any of the other cast. Now I too am worried about how San's show will take off on Sony. There is no promotions whatsoever with the cast and crew and March 25th is just a week away. One good thing is that the show I think will air only for 4 days and so the PH and the channel have time to look for and cast the male lead. But I do hope they do the casting quickly enough. Somehow I feel the PH and the Channel did a huge mistake by pushing this show this quickly - They should have aired this after the IPL - giving it ample time for creating buzz on internet and promotions and making the internet/TV audience familiar with the theme/cast/crew of the show. Just hope it doesn't falter because right after this serial starts airing we have IPL coming in after 2-3 weeks and this serial is in prime IPL time. Let's hope for the best.
J, don't worry...I think the audience will def tune in to atleast see what it is...I guess they don't want to give everything away... see, all Sanaya fans will def not miss it...and there are tons of them not just in India but overseas...the meet and greet in London was proof of that..
DeleteThe regular TRP audience who doesn't know who the hell Sanaya is, may also tune in to this show, because the fourth promo is kinda intriguing...audiences love to see strong female characters in action..
Secondly, I think the major promotion might come in on the last episode of 'gonge juda na hum' where they might promote chanchan as coming in to this time slot now.. that's what happened when honge juda na hum was coming after saas bina sasuraal, in the last episode, they promoted this show ... so audience will def be intrigued..
Another thing is that, sony probably doesn't promote its shows to the level of starplus.. and they probably don't care much abt TRPs too...and they know what they are getting into..they probably know that they have a winner in Sanaya's show, that's why they are airing it at the same time that IPL airs.. they have the confidence in the content.. secondly, even if it fails for the time being during the IPL phase, they aren't paranoid like starplus and won't pull it off air immediately..it will be given a recovery phase..
I have no doubt the show will be loved..because I have watched a few episodes of saas bina sasuraal and even though I knew nobody, I thoroughly enjoyed it.. so if the content is of that calibre...it will surely be great especially with the likes of Supriya Pathak in it...
Madsie *hugs*
DeleteRegular TRP audience may not have known Sanaya after MJHT, but they sure as hell know her after IPK! Internet audience, especially overseas audience, especially online IPK audience ... ALL know Sanaya ... most Sanaya fans will be tuning in for her for sure, at least at the start of the show. Many IPK fans who don't know about the behind the scenes drama will also tune in ... I have met so many people in India on this trip who watched IPK, and still miss it. That is where I think Sony has been smart ... they are airing the ads on the sports channels as well ... they will get the attention of the IPL audience too.
You're right that Sony doesn't care about TRP's as much - they cater to a more urban audience. They have Colors to cater to the small town audience, and Sony to the more urban viewers, and even more, to the male viewers - that's probably why KBC comes on Sony, so do Filmfare Awards, and their crime shows have a very loyal viewership. Plus the PH is good - their last show with unknown actors, SBS, did well ... Madsie, Kavs used to watch it, she made me watch quite a few episodes :)))
And this one has at least two very well known actors besides Sanaya - Supriya and Anang Desai. The movie Khubsoorat was good, with a great mix of characters. So the content will be good. It might take a while to pick up, especially with DABH being so firmly entrenched ... but I think it will do well enough. And as long as it gets decent TRP's and Sony keeps it on air for a couple of years, I will be happy. No major TRP pressure!!!
Hey all ... just recovering from the wedding festivities and trolling the forums :)))
ReplyDeleteI don't know why everyone is getting so antsy about the male lead, to be frank. In YRKKH, the promos were only with Akshara, Naitik was finalised almost a month after the show started airing. People thought that Ali guy was going to be the lead. In Geet, Gurmeet made an appearance almost two months into the serial ... it was Abhinav Shukla playing Dev who was shown first. In Gurbaani, which starts next week, the male lead has still not been shown in promos. In the new Zee show, I read the male lead hasn't yet been finalised, and I think that show is starting pretty soon too. Ek Doosre Se was based on a similar theme - the promos had only the MIL-DIL combo, not the hero. They never show the entire cast in promos ... what are you guys even talking about?! They only show the main leads - like Navya, they showed Anant Navya, not the families! The families have been cast already, there isn't much confusion there. They won't show them in the promos - they aren't the main draw! The main draw here is Sanaya ... and Supriya. If at all any new promo comes next week, it will show these two - that's my guess.
The speculation on the male lead has been more here because it's Sanaya, and she was part of such a successful jodi, so everyone is waiting for a repeat performance ... Of course, the Barun fans are praying for her pairing to be a complete flop, or at least not anywhere as successful as Arshi. :)))
I think the problem is that there is a dearth of good male actors on telly these days, the ones who are good have BW dreams, especially the younger ones. The older ones are more once bitten, twice shy. But also everyone knows Sanaya is such a good actress - in IPK with a badly written role and focus on the male lead, who was also a very good actor, she walked away with a major share of the honors ... Here, in an author backed role, she will make mincemeat of any mediocre actor ... and even a good actor will be majorly overshadowed, they will think twice before taking up such a heroine dominated show ... so the channel must be in a bit of a fix to balance the two!
And Chhanchhan is being promoted completely as Sanaya's show for sure, there seems to be no doubt about that. Maybe the industry has more info than we do, and knows more about her popularity, and that's the reason they are pushing it ... or is it just the usual way of advertising a show which is female oriented ... It certainly seems to be in the news, judging by the number of articles in TOI and other newspapers ... am not counting the telly chakkar and TB articles. We actually haven't had too many TB articles about the rest of the cast, except for the one on Supriya Pathak. The rest have all been on Sanaya. Unless I've missed some :) They have a huge cast on board already, am sure they are just keeping the male lead under wraps .. or keeping their options open to finalise once the show starts airing and they see the response.
As far as I know, the show will air right after the match ... remember last year, IPK was on during the first match, at 8 pm. How long does a 20-20 match usually last? I've never watched IPL, so am clueless. And Sony has the telecast rights for IPL - I've seen ads for CC on all the sports channels in malls in Delhi. Feels good :)))
However, like I said somewhere else too ... Sanaya is in a win win situation here. She has given two back to back hit shows, been part of two hit jodis, the second much bigger than the first, but then it was on a much bigger platform, and she has obviously been recognised by the industry ... witness her comeback within four months, the fact that PH's were waiting in line to seduce her to their shows, shows were being conceived with only Sanaya in mind, signing her for a show determines the level of the rest of the cast etc. ...
DeleteNow she takes up an author backed role - a first for her ... but it's on the smaller of the four GEC's, which is struggling to maintain numbers ... AND her show will be pitted against the number one show DABH. If CC does well, Sanaya has basically proved her point - she can carry a show, ANY show, with ANY actor.
And if it doesn't - well, the odds were stacked against it after all - Sony had low numbers, 9 pm slot is the most competitive etc. Won't really be her fault.
Besides, she has been very smart, she hasn't taken a love story, because comparisons would have been instant and violent ... she's taken a family drama, which will be more a sitcom. So the chemistry will take a back seat. If it is good, it will be a bonus.
The onus is much more on her two co-stars, Mohit and Barun ... to show they can prove themselves without Sanaya. Mohit is already struggling. Didn't watch much of Khamoshiyan, but from what I read, the Garv-Gauri pair was a bigger hit than the Sid-Gauri one. If he had gotten CC (which I hope he doesn't), and it does well, he will be branded as being useless without Sanaya. And since the Monaya onscreen chemistry is definitely not as good as the onscreen Arhi chemistry, if he does CC, it will be a losing battle from the start.
Barun is doing a romcom, so pairing and chemistry is important for him ... his costar in his movie is already a big handicap, which is why his fans aren't even talking about any hot and happening chemistry there :D If he manages to create chemistry with her, then he will also have proved that he can create chemistry with any actress. Don't have much hopes of that, to be honest ... but I'm biased, I can't stand that Shenaz woman.
Welcome back Dia. *hugs*
DeleteIPL starts in April and goes on for 2 months and you usually have 2 match timings - one is in the afternoon and one is at night 7:30PM - 10:30PM and usually the night times of 7:30PM goes to the high profile teams like CSK, MI or KK so yes it is little tough to combat IPL fever. Remember that was the same reason the 4Lions PH gave for extending the nonsense GH track and swami track saying that they didn't want the truth revelation out during IPL because they were not sure of raking in good numbers due to IPL and they made a complete mis-match after IPK Holi. So yes it would be tough for SI to ride out the IPL storm alone that is.
Coming to the show Chanchan - one problem is that there are at least 2 other shows which are using the same Modern Bahu - overstrict MIL and frankly this is a little outdated concept. You have Housewife on Zee which is firmly etched in with around 2 TRPs and has Himani Shivpuri pitted with Suhasni Dhami(the promos were good for this show and the launch was also a good one). And now you have Sukriti's new show on Life OK 'Ishq hai gazab ka risk hai' on the same lines - a modern girl working in singapore adjusting to the Haryana joint family. And sukriti too has massive fan following in Internet due to her Dr.Riddhima stint in DMG. So basically there are 3 different shows having the same flavor and the remaining were/are being promoted quite good. Sukriti's show has Gaurav(good looking chap) as the hero and they are looking cute. So basically the hero ought to be more than looking good to carry this show forward.
Seems like this show is basically a show with Supriya/Sanaya/Anang Desai as the core characters. That is why I don't see any male lead wanting to even do this show. I was actually surprised that Navya's lead turned down this show but it is good in a way because he looks too young with SI. Agree with you on Mohit - He is slowly becoming a 1-hit serial wonder. He stayed out of limelight for 2 long years and his comeback serial sank within 3 months and that is going to haunt him for a long run.
With Barun the advantage is the movie is only 3 hours long - If the people can get entertained in the 3 hours you are done with your work - A very big advantage in doing movie and not a serial. With serial you need to create the chemistry or have something to drag viewers to you day in/day out every week. And with Barun's romcom there are 4 other actors in the movie and MAMR according to me would be something like American chick flick. You would be entertained while you are watching the movie and honestly Shenaz though a bad actress looks the part of a confused person who doesn't know what she wants in life. She doesn't need to act - she already looks that part. And more than the first movie, I think the second one of Barun '22 yards' would create more splash because the director Mithali comes across as an intelligent woman who knows what she is doing and also the character is of a cricket agent who is trying to fight his personal demons along with a budding cricketer. I think that movie would be something to look forward to and MAMR may be a average hit or may recover its costs.
Coming to Sanaya's show on Sony, I am definite it will rake in TRPs more than Honge Judaa and may come in around 2+ but to beat DABH and be a top for that slot may be little difficult given that Shashi mittal promotes their shows on a large scale with awesome promos, and he runs a tight ship with hardly any bloopers, body doubles for DABH. Let's see how it goes from here.
Can you really create chemistry? I think some kind of spark has to be there from the beginning for the chemistry to work/ignite, it can't just be created....witness how quite a few of the popular actors repeat hits with heroines that they have had successful pairings......Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol, of course, are testament to that.......myb we will get Barun and Sanaya together, in say, 5 years or so....???????
ReplyDeleteWelcome Back Dia......
Aki,
DeleteExactly my thoughts - You can't create chemistry. It has to be there from the word go or else it is not there. So many of the jodis you like are just because you are *used* to seeing them together and not because they had the *it* factor with them. That is what is known as getting used to the jodi and not exactly chemistry being created. With BS-SI they have explosive chemistry and the testament of that is the first scene of Arnav-Khushi when Khushi falls down the ramp. BS had the perfect eyes that showed arrogance and Sanaya had the prefect 'damsel in distress' look on her and you know the chemistry was a roaring fire between both of them.
I know Dia may not agree with me but according to me both BS and SI will have a hard time creating a hit jodi with other actors that will surpass the magic created by ArHi. Yes we can get jodis with other actors/actress for BS/SI and we can grow to like them but I doubt they will have the chemistry kicking and screaming from the word go.
Aki,
DeleteI guess that's exactly why the PHs do look tests ... to see which jodis look good together. Especially for established actors, whose acting abilities are already known, but that X factor is not ... I remember Gul or someone from 4 Lions saying that the moment they saw Barun and Sanaya together for the look test, they knew they had a winner on their hands. What they were doing when they cast Zoya, I don't know!
Also I think chemistry can be subjective too ... the Maaneet chemistry was also very popular, but I really never saw it! I don't like Shilpa Anand as an actress, but I saw chemistry between her and KSG. So observer bias also plays a role ... although the SRK-Kajol jodi seems to be above that rule - that pair has almost 100% acceptance as best jodi of all time. Sarun has almost equal acceptance - so that's another pair that seems to be above observer bias! I loved SaJan, when I never knew either of the actors beforehand - no bias there, but I still saw the chemistry and more than that, Sanaya's acting talent.
Sarada, I don't know why you feel I won't agree - I've said the same thing myself many times over. I agree completely, and that's exactly what I said above - that Sanaya has been wise in NOT going in for another love story ... the Arhi chemistry will be very difficult to replicate. She knows that, hence her choice of new show. Like I always say, she is a very intelligent actress, and she has matured over the years that I have been watching her. That's why not only like her work, but I respect her as a person - the person I have seen, that is. One can never really know a person from edited interviews :)))
And that's why I feel so annoyed with Barun ... for walking out on such a show and such a jodi, and even more, for equating Sanaya and Shenaz in his MAMR interview - that is one thing I will never forgive him for. Whether it was said out of diplomacy or sheer stupidity or rank cowardice! He could easily have said that he's worked with Sanaya for much longer so he's more comfortable with her, or some such thing ... but if he honestly feels that Sanaya and Shenaz are equivalent to work with, then good luck to him - that's all I can say! His interviews have actually helped me a lot to get over him ... and to some extent, over IPK. I still enjoy watching the old episodes, but I am now more than ready for Sanaya's new show.
Dia,
DeleteRemember you were the one rooting for Sanaya to come in an romantic serial and I was one who was rooting for family sitcom kind of thing *he he*. That's why I was saying that maybe you don't agree with me but it is fun this way. Friends can have difference in opinion and that's what makes friendship more worthwhile and especially online friendships. But yeah I really am happy when you do agree with me so thanks on that account.
I think BS-SI chemistry was something no one were counting on to take off as it did - I remember BS had to give look test with about 60 girls and same was with Sanaya. So basically no one expected the casting to work and the added zing was that both can act very well. I think the producer Rajesh Chaddha or something said that with BS-SI we have katarnak chemistry but yes this wave or unprecedented popularity was something no one expected.
And here is one place I disagree with you Dia - Barun's interview with MAMR. I actually went back and heard what this fool had said after you I read what you wrote. He was asked - who suits which role and who do you think is good and barun replied - it is the casting director's call as to who suits which role and as a actor I have to act with them. And also for Khushi I can't think of anyone but Sanaya similarly here Shenaz is suited for the role. Hmm felt he was actually better and diplomatic here and like I told you earlier Shenaz is a bad actress no doubt but yes she looks the part of the confused-can't-chooose-life-partner-kind-of-girl. I don't think he equated both of them.
And to tell the truth barun has been crucified and nailed for his faults much more than they warranted yaar. That is one reason I am happy Sanaya is coming on Sony - A channel which was graceful enough to understand what audience likes KTLK and was graceful enough to work with the PH's request to have the show off-air with adequate time and the same lead rather than running a stupid disclaimer and passing blame game. So really am happy that SI left SP boat and joined Sony. Rajan Shahi and Sony have left an mark on how to handle lead's break/leave with grace and so did Colors/Sphere's origins. Both the rival channels and rival PHs showed SP/4Lions a thing or 2 on how to be graceful. The only problem I have with SI's show is that the same concept is on air in Zee TV and is coming soon on Life Ok and hopefully IPL fever won't give bad openings to this show. Hoping for the best.
Well....well well...we may move on from IPK (just about maybe!!) but we may never move away from the behind-the-scene happenings of IPK....LOL
Deletesome random comments after reading the posts above...i couldn't resist....
Chemistry is an intangible thing...u have it or u don't but the multitude has to believe that u do...luckily our personal love lives are not governed by chemistry or the lack of it...some mercy there!!
On Shahrukh_kajol, my personal two cents...DDLJ was obviously a benchmark...to me the personalities depicted by the two in the story had a big role and further on..both competent actors played their parts to the T if u ask me if any movies after that had that chemistry...i would say no...maybe KKHH to an extent but KKKG..i would say zilch....there were playing such dud parts...Kajol & SRK were hamming it up to the hilt under an overrated director...
But the perception had been made...and maybe the intangible exists between the two enuf for people to call them a memorable jodi...thats the thing about jodis..u have it or u don't but its important whether the majority agrees u do!!biases, opinions will all be part of the mix..
of modern BW jodis, i like the Saif-Deepika pairing..and this when i have not even watched their movies..i have only seen songs and random scenes together..but i just get the feeling they make an explosive pair...have a sense of savoir faire about them...haven't come across any articles claiming them to have that IT feeling tho...of the old jodis...i like Amitabh with all his actresses just as I liked Ingrid Bergman with all her heroes and ofc the Dilip-Madhubala and Kishore Kumar- Madhubala pair (the latter odd but cute)
To me while BS_SI have a great chemistry, it will work again if they have a even just a half-decent script holding them together and more importantly if the people who praise/critique their chemistry will keep their biases at bay.....(and thats a diffi ask, in any case)
Wow!
DeleteSo much on chemistry!
Agree with Rekh on SRK- Kajol looking the best in DDLJ and not able to repeat the same magic in their other hits together.
Barun- sanaya has a great off screen chemistry, so I feel a lot of the chemistry on screen can be attributed to that as well. With a decent director and a good script, these two might be able to repeat that magic, unlike ANY OTHER SCREEN PAIR I know.
One interesting thing I noticed about chemistry was with VD- DD.
I see zero chemistry on the show, yet they had very good chemistry playing the same characters on the Colors Award Show. This, to me shows that a pair who has no offscreen chemistry CAN make the right chemistry under the right director. Quite a bit of the chemistry can be created, I suppose, provided you have cast the right actors.
Dia,
I feel Surbhi has good chemistry with KSG, though not as good as Sarun. The Bol na Halke sequence was pretty good.
Su.......just caught up with DD's interview and it seems that Nautanki Productions has caught the same bug that afflicted 4L - she was complaining that they were extremely tired as shooting was what she termed as "cut-to-cut".............chemistry would be difficult to create, if not impossible, under such circumstances.
DeleteSu,
DeleteSorry, we will have to agree to disagree on Zoya. Last night I watched TV again after a long break ... a fresh look as it were. Zoya is very irritating. I don't see any chemistry with Asad. I can't stand her voice when she starts talking about making chicken satay ... she has no grace at all.
VD-DD ... while I'm not a fan of either, I find them watchable. But the show doesn't interest me, and now RK's character is becoming too dark, he's losing my sympathy completely. Have almost given up on watching MB.
SRK-Kajol had great off-screen chemistry, that probably translated into their onscreen chemistry ... agree with that, and also that they were best on DDLJ. I liked KKHH also, although the story was not well written in parts - or rather, I would have written many things differently.
Similarly I think BS/SI had great offscreen chemistry once they broke the ice, but their chemistry was evident even from the start, when they didn't know each other that well. So a combination of their talent and looks and their offscreen bonding. But also the story and the characters ... can't take that away. It was a combination of everything that worked, and that doesn't happen often.
Sarada, I don't think we're talking about the same interview. I read one during the shooting of MAMR or just after, when he was asked who was a better costar, and he replied he liked both, they were both pretty Parsi girls ... something like that. Basically comparing their acting talent ... which is why I was annoyed.
Shenaz ... I have seen her in two movies, have not liked her in either, neither her character nor her acting. She is what my husband and I call 'chenchdi'. I feel the same for Zoya. I wish they had gotten a new girl, I might have felt tempted to watch the movie.
Story, characters, direction, co-stars, set-up, hard work, blood, sweat and tears, etc....all of it is important...but the onscreen chemistry remains an X factor...........I don't think that the kind we saw is something that can be created....SRK and Kajol always had that special spark even when they appeared together in a movie like Karan Arjun.......
DeleteAki...i agree with what u say....
Deletethat X factor is largely a perception built on several things...when many agree on the same premise...it becomes almost a fact...
a small example of that perception...When Dhoom 2 was released..there were talks about Ash-Hritik sizzling chemistry..as luck would have it their next screen outing was JodhaAkbar...a fantastic setting for a love tale and performed beautifully by the artists...what luck their next outing was not Guzarish...but JA....so in a sense there is this point about how perceptions are built and fed on...Saif-kareena's outing together couldn't have had a worse start...Tashan...and then they probably had Kurbaan as a follow-up..now everyone says they don't that screen chemistry..wonder why?
Having said that, i am not disputing the chemistry theory...ofc there is that thing which attracts viewers..and they want to see their fav pair burn up the screen as often as possible...its just that i feel the setting is important as well!!Can't imagine Barun as Naitik and Sanaya as Akshara....(i am sure they will still find something to burn up the screen then too!!LOL)
Aki,
DeleteResponding to your earlier post ... again back to the same ... MB now airs six days a week, actors WILL get tired, they're humans, not machines ... banks will be difficult if not impossible, to build up, because PH people are also humans, not machines ... and quality will go for a toss. When will channels see sense and shift to a 2-3 episode a week format? They could have double the number of shows on air, and improve the quality. And maybe they could start experimenting with content a little more.
Am glad Chhanchhan will air only four days a week.
And yes, chemistry remains an X factor, apart from all the above ... the only thing is, different people do see chemistry in different couples, so there is some subjectivity involved as well. Actually I can think of only two couple for which chemistry has been pretty universally acknowledged ... SRK-Kajol and Barun-Sanaya! I don't even like SRK with other heroines so much, though I like Madhuri and Juhi individually, and I like Kajol best with SRK, though I first liked her with Akshay in Yeh Dillagi.
Same with Barun, I suspect, I don't know if I will like him half as much with other actresses ... that's a pretty moot point though, as he's coming with Shenaz and his second movie doesn't have much romance.
I loved Sanaya with Mohit, but even then I knew I wanted to see her with other actors, because Mohit was clearly the much weaker actor. I loved her with Barun in IPK, but when he left, I was ready to watch her with Viraf.
I don't expect much from CC in terms of romance and chemistry, but it will be a pleasant love story, and hence will be enjoyable. Don't think it will create a frenzy like IPK did. I did want to see Sanaya in another love story, but I think it's a wise decision to NOT do another one right away, comparisons would be instant and unfavorable and it would be under tremendous pressure from the start. Now no one expects anything much in the love story at all, so whatever we get will be a bonus.
chemistry... you wont believe what is akshara-naitik's new promo..
Deletethey have forgotten romance in their lives because of responsibilities.. now the cupids are in full force for holi, to bring their romance back!!! (this is the first time i saw that serial TWTW in a long time.. and am in love with akshara's jewelry!)
also saw viren romancing jeevika with "aur paas, aur paas"... someone help me!
iyooo...don't talk to me about chemistry juxtaposed with Naitik_Akshara...even if they mixed all the chemical compounds...i won't see any chemistry there...btw YRKKH is my pet peeve..dunno why...if i am surfing channels around that time and they happen to be on screen...i change the channel as if my fingers have touched something hot (oho...pun unintended)
DeleteI had forgotten all about that other serial...is it still on? aur paas, aur paas...hey devi maiyya save us all!!
Rekha,
DeleteI could never see any chemistry between Naitik and Akshara and to think of it I don't remember any off screen segments of Karan - Hina. Frankly both of them come and act and go and that is what I feel about YRK. But I have no idea how people actually like this serial - surprisingly this show has never been dethroned from the top 1 slot at 9PM for ages together. Is this an indication that the other serials coming at this slot are more pathetic than this one on air or is it that people are more foolish/stupid than I originally credited for them and are just following the serial because they have been watching it from beginning.
Frankly Sarada, i don't watch anything that even remotely resembles a saas serial..such themes bore me to death...on the other hand, i don't mind a Tarak mehta or an SGP (tho the former is bit preachy at times but i don't mind that part there)
Deletemy usual pattern before IPK was watch a set of 15-20 episodes of a serial in a particular time slot......in fact i remember when YRKKH was first aired...i actually liked the fact that they seemed to do some nuanced aspects on in-law relationships, not the usual bickering that is expected in such serials.....I used to find Naitik's mother's character finely nuanced...a typical conservative, over protective, overly sensitive woman/MIL/mother...the actress is fine one and i used to watch her quick silver expressions....but then ofc i lost interest in the theme (if there was one)but i can well imagine that the serial may have a set audience that does not mind watching the politics of relationships unfold day in and day out.....Its like this...I dissect a love story and somebody dissects an inlaw relationship..same difference!!
To be honest, it may not even be not the actor's fault in respect of chemistry...i can't imagine being able to do justice to that relationship in a serial going on for what 4-5 years...what do u do to sustain it....which is why i always wanted IPK to finish in a sensible time frame...never wanted to see ARHI in an after marriage setting ever once their issues were resolved (real issues, i meant!!)
I have a silly theory..for me reel romances are until marriage and romances in real life are post marriage!! ( tho i accept that real romances can have an earlier beginning too but its always diffi for reel romances to keep that interest alive for viewers post marriage!!)
Rekha,
Deletethe thing with YRK is that they have excellent side characters and side stories - you have story of Shaurya and Varsha, Akshara's parents and then all the Naitik's household with their extended families and so they can show some twist with one or other and I think people do get involved in this show because they have been following it for a long time and all these people are now part of their family. That is what I like in Rajan Shahi's team - They have very good rapport with the actors acting in their productions and they look out for everyone and everyone is indeed loyal to the PH. These kind of shows and also BV can go for many years and people still are attached to it because the stories are sensible and not some wacko plots/twists that Ekta keeps on throwing - like lead marrying again/again divorce/separation and all that stupid crap. I am okay with stories which are sweet, sensible and with good direction going on for few years but absolutely hate the multiple marriages/divorces that are so common in Ekta's shows.
I agree with Sarada on YRKKH ... although I don't watch it now, but there was a time when I did watch it off and on ...
DeleteThere is absolutely NO chemistry between Akshara and Naitik, but the reason it has lasted for so long is because it really is a slice of life. No over the top, larger than life heroes, villains, vamps, no scheming mothers-in-law ... all are very regular characters and they keep showing different circumstances that can happen in anyone's lives. Like the difficulty of marrying off a handicapped daughter, a girl from a more conservative family marrying into a more liberal family, a girl from a more liberal family marrying into a conservative one, an elder developing Alzheimer's and having to look after him, loss of money or job ... to name just a few. While I haven't watched most of it, but when I switch it on, I do follow for a few minutes ... the plots are realistic and relatable. There is not that instant aversion that I have with Saathiya :D The people are all pleasant ... the problem is that they also tend to get quite boring after a while ... but I guess for people who follow it regularly, they can see many echoes in their own lives, hence it stays popular within its set audience. And oh boy ... 1000 episodes is definitely enough to build a set audience! Even if you miss an episode or two ... or twenty! it doesn't really matter! Life goes on ... so does this show!
And yes, am also with everyone on the amazing LACK of chemistry between Akshara and Naitik. I did read somewhere that the actors don't really get along well in real life, so they come to the sets, do their scenes, and go home. In that case, their scenes are adequate, I guess ... though from the new promo, Akshara-Naitik are apparently all set to re-kindle their (gasp) romance!!!
Dia,
DeleteYes YRK is indeed a slice of life for many who are in that position. It is of course different for us who look for some intelligent serial and there is absolutely nothing to look for in YRK. But for 90% of people who just want to relax and watch the situation in Maheswhari house - it is quite okay and they tune in.
And SBS is a regular fan of YRK and everyday you have some or other segment on YRK or its actors. I have never ever seen an off-screen segment between Hina and Karan. In fact Karan went and said in print that he and Hina don't share anything beyond a 'hi/bye' relationship. So they come to the sets, do their scenes and are done with. Although I wonder whether any PH are going to cast Karan or Hina in any of their future ventures. I think the cast of IPK shares a very beautiful relationship on as well as off screen and they are as much friends off screen as they were onscreen. That is why their off screen segments also used to be so fun.
Dia,
DeleteOn Zoya: You watched the chicken scene? Zoya at her insecure worst? She is supposed to be irritating Asad to the point of pushing him in to choosing Tanveer as his lifemate...so she is at her irritating best there! I can agree with you there is no chemistry or grace there.(That episode and the one prior to that were the worst epis of QH I have watched, in terms of the most irritating segment on Zoya.)
Aki,
VD- DD. The funny thing is they have excellent chemistry when they are fighting, esp with Dips around. It is lacking in the romantic scenes, at least 4 me. I feel I have seen better chemistry when Naitik was romancing Akshara.
YRK: I am not a fan of it at all. But I must say I am impressed with the varied themes they have brought in to keep the show running. I am not sure what serials are actually there around for a thinking audience. If you are uncomfortable watching M&B romance on screen with an extended family, I guess YRK is an excellent option- it caters to all age groups! Again, I am not a big fan or anything- just an observation. I loved that new promo on YRK, btw.
I've been watching very erratically the last two weeks ... almost not at all the last week because of the wedding ... I think I sat in front of the TV out of sheer exhaustion the day after the wedding :D That was the only day I saw any TV at all ... I don't think I watched the entire episode. I went *head desk* multiple times when Zoya first looked up the treatment of an anaphylactic attack on the net, and then proceeded to miraculously 'find' an adrenaline pen in the first aid box ... presuming that's what it was meant to be ... and then injected Asad through his trousers ... WHAT UTTER CRAP!!! And watching after a break with a fresh look, as it were, I really found most of the stuff I watched pathetic ... acting and script wise! I think we just get used to the shows we like and follow them regardless. The only two I still liked were Veera - and surprisingly PKDH was watchable in parts. I still find Avantika much easier to empathise with ... her character has also softened with time.
DeleteZoya was irritating to the core. I cannot stand her voice in the comedy scenes, she goes all shrill and high pitched.
I don't think there are any serials around for a thinking audience either ... I don't think daily shows cater to a thinking audience, they just provide mind-numbing entertainment. I'm impressed with the creative team of YRK, but the show has no magic or charm. I like the themes they bring in, but none have been executed so well that they draw me in to watch the show or wait with bated breath to see what's going to happen ... it's all pretty predictable. The only theme which I did feel like watching was when Rashmi, the younger sis, gets married into a more liberal family and has trouble adjusting ... that was an interesting concept ... somehow I missed that track.
And I was right ... new promo is out ... and it has Sanaya and Supriya!
ReplyDeleteSaw it ... little cliched ... Sanaya is looking lovely, and I liked Supriya's look too - very attractive. The sets were good, a wedding scene ... looks like this PH is not penny pinching like 4 Lions.
Deletenot to put a stick in the works or anything, but IPK opened pretty lavish too.. (but i have more faith in an older, established PH).
Deletethe fifth promo.. is that her big sister getting married? could not see the face of the groom..
Saw the new promo on TV. Few things I really loved in this promo
Delete- Seems like Sanaya is not going to have the horrible wig in this show. The hair style is suiting her a lot and she looks younger and fresher. Really loving her look.
- Agree with you with the sets and wedding jewellery and the costumes. This PH is sure not penny pinching like 4Lions did. How they royally screwed up the remarriage of Arnav-Khushi - God I can't never forgive them for that.
- Supriya looking good but the smile she had was kind of like mystic - Dina pathak was too good as the strict MIL - just hope Supriya is able to get the act on the screen and I have full confidence on her - She is a damn good actress.
- Would definitely love to see more of the other actors coming in with the promos.
Cons :-
- The promos were highly similar to what Housewife hai had aired. The premise of Chanchan is now looking much similar to that serial and also the wedding promo looks much similar to Sukriti's promo of 'Ishq hai gazab ka risk hai'. So with 3 serials having almost similar premise it would be difficult for San's new show to make a difference in audience's mind.Just hoping that people do give a chance to this show for 1-2 months and this PH will promote this show in a higher scale for the first 1-2 months.
Jaya,
DeleteDon't remind me of IPK promos and start of IPK yaar - they were a league apart and the start was entirely different. But the yardstick for a good PH is not how they start the new venture but how they carry it till end and how they close the show and needless to say 4Lions PH have royally screwed both Geet and IPK.
There are currently three anti-hero brooding guy and chirpy independent girl serials on air, and they are all doing well - SC, QH and MB. So am not too worried about the similarity factor. Saas bahu/family dramas - there are DABH, SNS, YRKKH which are also doing well, apart from Housewife ... seems like saas bahu drama in any form appeals to the audience. And I don't even know of the rest, am sure there are more, but I don't follow them at all. So again the similarity factor doesn't seem to be an issue.
DeleteI hope CC is similar in treatment and feel to Saas Bina Sasuraal, then it will be a watchable show. Am not too worried about TRP's ... as long as it does reasonably well, Sony will keep it on air, and that's all I'm concerned with. Even KTLK with abyssmal TRP's (less than 1.0 for the last few months) was kept on air for almost 1 1/2 years ...
I don't watch Life OK at all, so no idea about Sukirti's new show ... and frankly, don't really care much. I used to like Sukirti as Riddhima, but she was always an average actress, so never followed her after that.
I think Sony caters to a niche audience, more urban educated viewers, and is less concerned about TRP's than the other channels. That is what I have heard on the grapevine, and looking at their line up, it seems to be true. No saas bahu stuff for them. CC is actually the first show remotely resembling saas bahu type. I think Su pointed that out too.
I doubt we'll get the rest of the cast in the promos before the show starts. If they don't finalise the male lead before the show starts, we might just get some run ins between Supriya and Sanaya before Sanaya meets Supriya's son and falls in love with him, without knowing who he is ... so the clash between Supriya and Sanaya is established before the love story starts. If the ML is finalised, we might get a promo with him, but I doubt it ... the show is Supriya-Sanaya based, and the promos will be accordingly shown.
The promo was a little cliched, but worth it to see Sanaya's smile back on screen! Supriya looked disapproving - she will not be typical vampish MIL like Bhabho, thank the Lord ... merely a strict disciplinarian type. And Sanaya will definitely not be meek and docile bahu like Sandhya!!! She will be strong and determined, yet with her values in place. That is what I'm looking forward to the most ... that's the type of heroine I love. Hopefully another Dr Simran type.
Dia,
DeleteAgree with you.I am sincerely not worried at all about the trps here.
I am not expecting gr8 trps, because I don't think Sony is as widely subscribed to as the other channels. My cable fellow does not give it. I watch Sony on the Dish.So trps are never going to be comparable at all, I guess. The show will do as well as SBS or better, which is more than sufficient. San needs a break too.
The only thing that bothers me now is the time. I am hoping they will have a repeat around 11:00 or so. If not, I'll have to catch it the next day. Or else, I have to convince my son to watch it in his TV time! I think this is going to be easier than IPK any day. He could get easily interested in the adventures of Chhanchhan. LOL. I am a mean manipulator!
Yep, I also think it will do reasonably well ... might be a struggle at the start because of DABH, but I hope it will pick up soon.
DeleteI think my husband will like this too ... for one, he likes Sanaya (LOL, don't most men?!) ... and for the second, he would prefer a light-hearted show over heavy duty romance. As long as it doesn't degenerate into stupidity, which is what most comedy shows do ... and which is why I was wary about Sanaya doing a 'comedy show'. Am much more upbeat about this show since I heard who the PH was.
And halleluiah!!! I have figured out that I can get Sony in HK! As soon as I get back home, need to get that organised. And hubby will be happy too - KBC is the one show we both enjoy watching a lot. Indian Idol Junior is coming soon as well ... so all good! Will switch to Sony happily ... although SP will remain on for Veera.

Delete*ChhanChhan Sanaya Promo 5 HD Full *
ReplyDeleteto me, this chanchan girl seems like a bit of a know-it-all.. and nidhi , if she is her sister, is a wallflower. not very impressed with the girl at all.
DeleteThe Nidhi girl is the actress who plays Nandini, Naitik's sister, in Yeh rishta kya kehlata hai. So she has a role definitely, not just promo I think.
Usha, is she? I need to re-watch in that case :) The girl was pretty ... I liked her. Hope she does have a role ... even in that 30 second promo, she seemed nice. Nandini was the older handicapped sister, wasn't she?
Delete
DeleteYes, Dia. I kept watching he promo and thinking, Where have I seen her, where have I seen her and then ghanti baji. :-)
Another actor I'm looking forward to watching ... don't laugh, but it's the guy from Ek Doosre Se Karte Hain. He played Susheela's husband, and he was a very sweet guy. My mom and I used to watch the show because it aired before IPK, and we both liked his character. He's a decent actor too. I think he will play one of Supriya P and Anang Desai's sons. Hope his character is similar.
DeleteI re-watched the promo - I still cannot figure out if she is the same girl! Hats off to you for recognising her! :))) If she is, she will be there in the show, I guess.
DeleteDia, me too, I too liked that elder brother a lot. He is a very good actor. He is usually a constant in hats off productions, the baa bahoo and baby people. I saw EDSKHPH till the villi daughter in law's entry. After that I made an exit. :-D
Usha, so did I ... watched it till that vamp DIL became too annoying, and the MIL who was supposed to be so smart, became a dumbo and fell for all her tricks. At that point I gave up. Even for timepass before IPK, I couldn't watch it ...
