28/3 ... Epi 4 - The Aftermath

Thurs 28th Mar '13

After the tense drama of yesterday, today felt a little flat.

So Uma Ben is not above white lies ... or has she really convinced herself that she broke off the marriage? And she is not going to tell anyone the real reason why it broke.

Manav needs to shape up much more ... and can they please not have him call his mom 'Mummee?' Sounds juvenile!!!

Scene at Uma Ben's residence was supposed to be funny, it fell a little flat for me. Seemed a Xerox of Housewife or any other saas bahu show ... no difference at all.
The characters of the three daughters-in-law etched out briefly, as well as the terror under which they live. One gharelu nervous type, one silly ... not sure yet about the third. Uma Ben gifting them silver coins because she realises that she's been correct in her choice of DIL's, through the contrast she just saw, was funny, though ... as was the fact that none of them seemed to get exactly what she meant. Till she said she just saw the type of DIL she was sure she didn't want!!!
Tempting fate, lady ... tempting fate!!!

Much better was the scene at Chhanchhan's house ... both the aftermath of the broken wedding ... sensitively done, and the next morning. Liking Chhanchhan's family ... they are such a normal family!!! The actors are good too. Where have the two friends disappeared? Only three of the five left now ... Chhanchhan, Simple and Purvi. Cute little scene between the three friends ... too short!

SN - Supriya P is struggling to hold the boy's end of the show up ... the other actors are not that great, and neither is Farhan yet, by a long shot. On the other hand, the scenes at Chhanchhan's house are much better, all the actors are good, not only Sanaya. However today was the first day the bahus appeared, so have to give them a couple of days to settle. The Sarabhai family is already into their roles nicely.

Purvi worried about her father going to meet Uma Ben ... predictably UB throws him out of job and house. And CC correctly estimates who UB blames for the mess ... unfortunately, she's going to meet UB, and try and solve matters. Uh oh, Chhanchhan ... no, please ... bad idea! This is not going to work!!!

Loved Sanaya's look today, both at night in red kurti, and morning in jacket and jeans. She looks gorgeous when she's simply dressed. She also looks gorgeous when she's all dressed up. I'm confused ... does she ever not look gorgeous?!

*Edit*
Just caught the first five minutes of the episode ... had missed that last night (live stream not working :( ) So Uma B announced that the boy's parents had broken off the alliance ... eww! Hiding her own role in the drama.
SN - Hope this is not going to turn into evil saas ...

Manav arrives belatedly ... his scene with his mom made me feel sorry for Uma B. If all her sons are equally big dolts, no wonder she needs to run her household with rod of iron. What a dimwit!
Another character that needs some work! Happy go lucky doesn't necessarily mean daft and birdbrained!
Oh wait ... when bubbly and chirpy girl usually means dim-witted six year old, guess the same goes for guys!
So Uma Ben determines that she will check out her own future bahu far more thoroughly than she checked out Purvi.

Nice scene at Chhanchhan's house, where the family tries to cheer up Purvi and her dad. Liking Chhanchhan's family more and more, especially the teasing.
SN - Hope they show Purvi getting married .. and that too,  very soon!

Uma Ben's house - the three daughter-in-law ... whose main qualification seems to be that they should shiver at Ba's footsteps. And be minus spine, brain or any other thinking organs which might allow dissent in any form whatsoever.
So one bahu is gharelu, one is silly and one is a trifle vain. And all three are dressed identically. (They also seemed clones of every saas bahu show on telly today).
And Uma B gifts them all silver coins ... celebrating the fact, which she never appreciated enough ... that they are NOT Chhanchhan! Even if they are dumb! But they never go against her ... smart girls! Bahus seem a bit dumbfounded at the unexpected praise. :)))

The scene was the first reminder of Khubsoorat, where Dina Pathak rules with rod of iron.

Manav needs to grow up! Mummee? Like really?!

Night scene with the three girls ... sweet, but too short! Discussing the happenings at the wedding, the guys they met, cheering up Purvi, all fun and laughs ... typical friends' scene.
Morning - again very cute scene. Enjoying the Chhanchhan family interactions ... very real and sweet. JSK was cute! Like the mother ... very sweet, graceful lady. Again liked the interactions between Purvi and Chhanchhan ... Purvi's worry about her father was sweet and very touching.

Purvi tells Chhanchhan that her dad is going to meet Uma Ben. And Chhanchhan remembers that Uma Ben blamed her for the wedding fiasco.
Precap - And when Tushar uncle loses his job (expectedly so), Chanchan decides to try sort things out. Uh oh.

  5. Sony has uploaded the first week's episodes in HQ ... excellent!

On re-watch, the scene in Uma Ben's house was not as flat as I first thought. Seems the makers are getting back to their roots of light-hearted tongue in cheek humor. The bahus baffled at the unexpected praise from Uma Ben, and clueless as to what brought that on, was funny ... and their expressions were good!

So that just leaves Farhan as the weak link. Thought a guy with a theater background would at least have good voice modulation ... *sigh*
He's nice looking though ... he will look good with Chhanchhan. Hope Manav grows up a little ... seems highly unlikely Chhanchhan can fall for a guy like him at present. I think makers are giving him some time to ease into the character and get his acting sorted out, hence fewer scenes of Manav. 4 Lions did the same with Arnav at the start of IPK.

    1. Hey Ratna,

It's not so much not missing IPK now, but more like moving on. Every time someone brought up IPK, talk veered around to how it ended ... and the controversy and bitterness that topic creates, is never-ending. So it just seemed better to put it behind us, and I imposed a ban on discussing IPK, especially how it ended. We can still discuss the show, but on the other shows thread, if anyone wants to.

Besides, for me, it has always been like that ... I loved DMG once upon a time, but when I went off DMG, I never went back to the parts I liked, never watched the episodes again ... same with MJHT, I have not seen a single episode or uncut of MJHT since it ended. Same with IPK, I have watched some uncuts while waiting for Sanaya's show to be announced, but not since then.

When IPK was announced, I happily moved on to IPK ... all Sanaya fans did, and we welcomed Barun, even though most of us had no clue what he was like.
Situation is the same now ... I'm happy for Sanaya, and so are most of her fans. For us the bitterness of the abrupt ending has been wiped out by her quick return, and we're happy to watch her again. I think once BS is back on screen when his movies release, his fans will also be happy to move on. Till then, they're a bit lost, and still hankering after IPK :)

IPK will always be a bit special though ... for me, each show I have liked, has been special, more for the people it has connected me to than for the show itself.

Also, I know quite a few Sanaya fans never connected to Khushi, and will like Chhanchhan much better as a character, because we loved the maturity of Gunjan. I'm among them ... I could never write much on Khushi, and I stuck to IPK through many OTT phases only because it was Sanaya playing Khushi ... I would have dropped the show many times over if it had been any other actress! Some of my fellow Sanaya fans did ... they never watched IPK beyond the first couple of weeks.

So yep ... happy to see Sanaya back, more than happy to watch her show ... IPK was good while it lasted, but it's over now.

    2. Ratna, Nope. Maybe cos I stopped watching it even before it ended, MB has few tracks on how it should have already been and there is Zindagi Gulzar hai.

Ipk is just a beautiful memory, have moved on!!

    3. By the way, Shweths, have just started watching Humsafar today ... want to finish that, then will move on to Zindagi Gulzar Hai.

    4. I did ramanchi, only watched the asher-khirad (hoping I remember the names right) plus wiki gave me an episode guide, so pretty much watched the whole show in couple of hours and satisfied.....Oye start watching ZGH, It is current, live, the couple just got married and it was fully an awwwwwwww episode and I can bak bak about ZGH with you all;)

    5. Ratna,

Moved on? Can never really move on from IPK. When I remember all the beautiful writers in IF who were inspired...it is an epic! Nothing can replace it!
Not QH by the same PH (which actually has the potential to make me a nutcase again..but thankfully it is diluted with a lot of Family Drama); not another Blockbuster by the same actors; not another show with a similar theme....Nothing can replace IPK for me.

Even if I don't watch it any more, every love story I see will be compared to Arhi's.

    @Chanchan:

I liked the show. It held my attention for almost the entire episode....each day...... That is what matters right?

Yup, it can improve......loadssssssss....does look somewhat hurriedly put together, wished some moments had been dealt in depth, but hey it is only the first week and It has a great ensemble cast, so no complaints.

As for Farhan Khan - I liked him. For a newcomer, he did okay.

To be very honest, I had zero expectations from the show seeing how it is ultimately going to be a saas bahu saga hoppefully one of the better ones - So in that sense, You have Sanz & SPathak to lead the acting honors, a great ensemble cast.

Hero, do not foresee a great role for him and least bothered about chemistry aspect, cos that is not the USP of this show is it?

So for me, it is dekho, enjoy karo and bhool jaao types.

This is Sanz Show, focus is going to be on her and she is going to deliver, BAS!!

Dont like her hairstyle the curls though, wish they had retained the one in the rangoli promo one, that was sooooooooo cuuuuuuuute;)

    1. Shwethuuuuuu *hugggggggsssss*

You're back!!! The bak bak begins!!!! Good to see you back be ... blog is soona soona without you!

Ditto you on pretty much everything you said about Chhanchhan ... guess the reports were true, about Sony hurrying the PH into starting the show ... but hey, we have Sanz back on screen sooner, so who's complaining?! And things will fall into place slowly, the Ph is experienced, they have a great ensemble cast ... and they have DOGS!!! I hope the dogs do play a bigger role and we see them at least every other episode!
      Did I mention I'm a dog-lover?! You might have guessed :)))

When MJHT ended, I wished to see Sanaya back in a mature intense love story ... got pretty much that in IPK, but I didn't get as much of mature Khushi as I wanted. So my next wish was, in her next show, she get an author-backed heroine-oriented show, with no OTT ... ab voh bhi mil gaya! So I am happy!

SN - Wonder what I should ask for next? :)))

Farhan was okay till Friday ... he had some big scenes there and he didn't deliver. But I sat through Mohit in MJHT, I think Mohit was worse as a newbie, so am willing to wait for Farhan to shape up. He won't be all that important anyway. Besides, if he doesn't, the PH will have no qualms about replacing him ... and I doubt there will be calls of shutting the show down for him ... :)))
Whatever it is, this is Sanz' show and I am watching for Sanaya ... I sat through a lot of crap in MJHT and IPK for Sanaya only, so I am ready to enjoy this one. I hope it IS a saas bahu show with a difference ... I like Chhanchhan's characterization already, so hoping it stays that way.

Oye, I quite like her curls, she has poker straight hair in real life, so this is a nice change. I hope she keeps changing her hairstyle as well as her clothes ... am enjoying her new wardrobe already!

Good to have you back be! Hope you're all settled in the new place ... now start bak baking away!!!

    2. awwwwwwww, dia missed being here too, way toooo much, the googly came from my PC doing nautanki and it took me a whole week to find someone to fix it, grrrrrrrrr....

Which was sort of blessing in disguise, I got lot of work done*sheePish grin* and watched quite a bit of TV with no inside/outside news/views whatsoever for that brief period, very brief period, mind you enjoyed the perks of being a lay viewer, dekho and bhool jaoo types...

mb is doing good, it is twice the lead has gone on leave and they managed beautifully. Even watched QH couple of ePisodes especially since Zee had a major bash of holi celebrations and my daughter enjoyed the whole holi hungama.

Abhaas is looking really good, lean and mean in his new show, premise is different, again has a great ensemble cast, if you want an absolute pure drama that show would be it, dont know if I will watch it again, but have to see Abhaas is doing a great job, he is restrained in his performance and happy for him.

Read deepali is acting as a lead in a marathi show, good for her. You know what I am secretly hoping Nani and Mami from IP K come in Chanchan, you know Nani can be the super cool saas of Umaben and Mami can be her oh anything yaar..Oh wait she can be her Modern Nanad who irritates the heck out of Umaben.........hayeeeeeeeeee, Chanchan would be awesome, what would Manav do, who cares yaar ?

Also I find the show is pretty straightforward, barring the twist in the fate, there is not much to analyze unlike IPK where you could have different povs. Looks good so far.........waisay what does Manav do exactly and why does umaben have to model him out like this, I would have thought, with her family background, girls family would be lining up for him, weird...

    3. hehehe shwetha...that would be cool to see Nani and Mami in CC...I am looking forward to CC's antics at her in-laws place and how her co-sisters react to all this ;-)

..waise I liked Rekha's khoobsurat..and when I heard the show is loosely based on it..I was sold on it at that itself ;-)

    4. Hi Shwetha,

      Wonderful seeing you back!
That was a wonderful take on everything you've been watching. And loved your idea of nani and mami in CC. LOL.

Manav- girls would be lining up for him, but Mummy wants another one who deserves that silver coin! Where is she going to find another one like that? LOL.

      Dia,

Watched the thurs epi only today. And it seemed quite fine, actually. I think the second epi got me where Shwetha is now. Lowered expectations.

I liked Farhan and even liked the scene at his house. The eldest SIL is the same from SBS, right? She had good rapport with Toasty, it will be the same here, I bet.

Wished the scene at CC's home did not look so rushed. They are losing out on family bonding at the expense of comedy, I feel. They could take it slow, giving both equal weightage.

On Manav: I did not watch a lot of SBS. I really don't remember much about Tej as such. Never struck me as a hero. The story was about Toasty and his family, at least for me. And I never missed a love story there. I feel Manav is better written than Tej (can't swear by it, since I did not watch a lot of Tej)...he will definitely have more depth than Tej...but that is going to be a slow growth, going by how happy go lucky he is, right now.

And he will never be a Ram Kapoor or Dr. Ashutosh or ASR or RK or Asad....the character becomes more likable to me, now that I know what to expect from him. He is a simple boy next door who takes life too lightly. I am hoping his growth will happen after they get married...that way we will get to see a mature love story.

And like Shwetha said, it looks like it has been put together hurriedly...so it will take some time to settle down and get a smooth run. That is fine. Let them take their time.

    5. Yes, the eldest bahu is from SBS. Also I remembered where I had seen the youngest one ... she was Sugni's mami in Phir Subah Hogi - just caught the last episode of that show and saw her there. She was a negative character there.

Farhan will never be any of the characters you named, because all those are love stories ... this one is NOT. There is no comparison. And I think the reason Mummee has to trot him out to every function to find a bride is because he is such a idiot, no girl would look at him ... considering Umaben's bahus, seems like the entire family is on the slow-witted side!

Oh, I also hope Nani or Mami come on this show ... it would fun to see them, in whatever character! I even wish Karan G comes on this show ... I felt he would have been a good choice for Manav, he is a better actor ... but I guess it was too soon after IPK ended, it would have been weird to see him as Sanaya's love interest. But he is another on my list of candidates for Sanaya's heroes. That list is so long, she will be fifty before she goes through them all :)))

    6. Dia,

Nooooo...Please stop calling him an idiot. LOL.

See how he handled things after the way his mom put his best friend (*head desk*)down...and his amusement that a marriage would break after the third phera...he has his own cool way of handling his mom and the world....and he has his way of getting exactly what he wants, all the while staying mummy's fav son...looking idiotic and spoilt to the rest of the world including CC.

The best ting about him- he does not look like a maa- bhakt, at least not yet.

      Delete
    7. Yep, he's not a maa bhakt ... that is the best thing about him. He panders to his mom with flattery, yet manages to do exactly what he wants. Interesting.
