Chhanchhan ... The Countdown begins :)

18th March ...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fEj2kUtGqIw
SBB on Chhanchhan ... scenes from Promo 5, small interview with Sanaya, where she describes her 'look' as Chhanchhan ... no specific look of the same dress in different colors, as she's had before as Gunjan and then Khushi, but instead, much more realistic and true to life, where she changes clothes and hairstyles every day like any normal girl would. Am loving the sound of this! Sanaya wearing a purple lehnga and pink chunni with golden blouse ... from my latest research into fashion scene in Delhi today, can happily say she's in the IN colors ... apparently, purple is IN. So is lemon yellow - have seen some lovely clothes in yellow, and yellow suits Sanaya, so hope we'll see her in that color too.
Another small interview with Sanaya and Supriya, where the VO says that Supriya P will be strict MIL, so will she slap Chhanchhan?  Supriya laughs and says no, she will pull her cheeks. And proceeds to do so

Male lead for Chhanchhan is finalised. We have a name now, but still no face ... at least not from the PH or channel though we do have a couple of photographs from TC and TOI. Since there are about 45 Farhan Khans in the industry, will wait till we get final confirmation before I post a pic here. He is a rookie model apparently, and is good looking.
SN - Hope the guy can act.
SN2 - Hope the guy can dance ... after two costars blessed with two left feet, I want a good dance partner for Sanaya! Though Mohit was better than Barun, and at least he tried.

Exactly a week for Chhanchhan to air Day Dreaming

SBB segment 19th March - Sanaya photoshoot for Chhanchhan posters for Advertising. Posters to be put up in all major cities.

Sanaya in different looks - pink kurti with jeans, yellow salwar suit, and multicolored lehnga. She likes the jeans and kurti look best ... no surprises there! She looks gorgeous in all ... and the VO agrees. Sanaya seemed tired in the segment between shots, although during the shoot, there is no sign of tiredness on her face and her smile is as radiant as ever.

Have seen major posters of Khubsoorat all over town while I've been in Delhi, and I was wondering if Sony would advertise Chhanchhan the same way. Glad to see they will Only I won't be there to see it

This one I really like ... always wondered why Indian TV couldn't show that a modern woman can be connected to her roots, and that wearing jeans or dresses doesn't necessarily mean that she's a vamp!

Far more links for the launch of Chhanchhan as compared to IPK ... Sanaya was known as Gunjan but not so widely, Barun was pretty unknown ... and Star Plus doesn't seem to do these grand launches anyway. IPKKND was itself an experiment on Star Plus, so they kept it pretty low key, and it never generated this kind of interest.

Sony did big launches for BALH and KTLH ... I remember those. I heard they also did for Hongey Judaa Na Hum. Have seen hoardings for Khubsoorat all over Delhi ... now apparently there are hoardings for Chhanchhan all over Mumbai, including on all BEST buses and bus stops. So apparently Sony goes all out in their launches. And Sanaya is, of course, a much bigger face and name now than she was at the start of IPK. Just hope and pray this show hits the jackpot for Sony. And gives a hat trick for Sanaya :)

Confidence much?! Badmouting Ekta Kapoor? Bachhu, you want to stay long term in TV industry or not? Paani mein reh kar magarmach se bair karna types ... Learn from Sanaya - all she says is that she doesn't want to do rona dhona roles ... no names mentioned ... diplomacy bhi koi cheez hoti hai!
Anyway, the guy seems confident, he has done theater, so he's not a total rookie ... but TV with the speed of shooting and the pressure of constant deadlines, is a different ball game, and he seems to realise this completely.

I love his height and the whole attitude.
Hope he can act well too.
Poor Mohit! If this fellow is not attached to any ine, Mohit is going to feel a little insecure.

But he looks like a silent type, any way. Very mature looking here.

Chhanchhan's hubby would have to be strong and silent, I suppose. To manage the two women in his life.
*giggles* I am already analysing the show! LOL!
Experience with SBS- this PH does not think much of brooding or silly leads- their characters are the common, relatable to types- girl/ boy next door feel!

Less of romance, more of Family Drama! San needed to do just this, right now.

    4. Just watched their joint interview ... am looking for the link, and will post it here ... he speaks well too, and seems confident.

Me too ... I think the characters will be very real. Read somewhere else ... will try to find and post ... Sanaya says that Chhanchhan is not like Khushi except for the fact that she's also bubbly ... but Khushi was crazy, while Chhanchhan is just a normal girl of today.

Also she said that Chhanchhan is very close to Sanaya ... that much I did figure while reading the writeups on the show and her character. Not only just like Sanaya, but like most normal Indian women of today, who can take part in the puja of Diwali and a night out at a dance club with equal enjoyment. And can dress in sarees one day and jeans the next ... that Sanaya said already many times over :)

  3. "Chhanchhan is new age woman" - TOI article

Sony Entertainment Television has always been the pioneer in bringing forth to its viewers the various facets of a progressive Indian woman.

And keeping with its promise of continuously innovating and developing new show concepts, SET is proud to present a new-age woman-oriented fiction show called 'Chhanchhan'. Starting Monday, March 25, 2013, the show takes a fresh perspective with an aim to capture the minds and hearts of India's forward-thinking women.

Produced by Optimystix Entertainment, 'Chhanchhan' is a story of the beautiful and vivacious girl named Chhanchhan (played by Sanaya Irani) who is by profession a dog trainer. She is a free-spirited independent young woman, modern in her thought but still deeply rooted in her culture. She stands up for what is right and raises her voice against all that is wrong.

In complete contrast to her, is the strict disciplinarian Umaben (played by Supriya Pathak) who takes all the decisions in her household and sets the rules for her family. In a classic tale of the clash of cultural conditioning, watch two generations of fiesty women redefine the quest for a day when east meets west and the joys of life are fulfilled.

'Chhanchhan' is a story that will touch many generations of women.Talking about the show Vivek Bahl, Chief Creative Director, SET said, "Chhanchhan is a refreshing and unique prime time property placed at the 9:00 p.m. slot. It is a powerful story of self-reliance, determination and family values told in a simplistic, real and light-hearted manner. The show captures every emotion of a young very fun loving, simple at heart girl who finds happiness in small things, and enjoys life as it comes her way. She has been brought up with modern and ethnic values and she loves to practice them in her day to day life in her own way. We are optimistic that the audience will accept Chhanchhan into their lives just the way they have embraced all the other Sony Entertainment Television characters before."

Vipul Shah, Producer, Optimystix said, "We have had a long and fruitful relationship with Sony Entertainment Television, working on some landmark shows together. Chhanchhan is a different and an entertaining concept of a free-spirited girl who is a dog trainer by profession. She is a young feisty woman of substance, who is modern in her outlook towards life yet deeply connected and rooted to her core values. She is someone who loves listening to rock music but at the same time will recite the GayatriMantra every morning. She is someone who stands for what she believes is right and will not shy away from voicing her opinion. She is very much the Indian woman of today and we hope that our viewers will love every bit of her character and welcome her into their homes."

Set in Ahmedabad, the show explores how the vivacious Chhanchhan applies her intelligence, plays her cards well and sets a dysfunctional family that she marries into, back on track. The cast includes a strong ensemble of actors led by the veteran Supriya Pathak, the vivacious Sanaya Irani who is paired opposite newcomer Farhan Khan, along with noted actors like Anang Desai, Arvind Vaidya, Shraman Jain, Arshima Thapar amongst several others who ably support the main cast.

  4. Farhan Khan didn't know Sanaya Irani -TOI article 20th March

Much was said and written about the actor, who will be seen romancing opposite Sanaya Irani in Sony TV's newly launched show Chanchan. Many big names were approached for the role but destiny finalized newbie Farhan Khan as the male lead opposite Sanaya Irani.

Though Farhan is said to be a rookie actor, he is indeed not new to the industry. " My entire family belongs to this industry however I was not earlier keen on being part of this glamour world. I was focused on sports and really wanted to do a great career, wanted to participate in the Olympics but nothing went right in my way."

Now, Farhan will be paired opposite Sanaya Irani, who is senior to him as a TV actor. "Frankly speaking I had never been in touch with Television so far. I never watched a daily soap therefore, I never knew who is Sanaya," states Farhan.

" In fact, I was finalized a week back after hundreds of auditions and I was told that I will be paired opposite to Sanaya. Interestingly, at that time I never knew who she is but only after doing few research on internet and after meeting her I realized that she is a very known face on TV," adds Farhan.

"So it will be a learning experience for me as an actor for sure," signs off Farhan.

Will Farhan-Sanaya jodi will be the next rising jodi of small screen is something to wait and watch.

  5. Can't find the original article for this ... quoted on the forum.

TV actress Sanaya Irani says although her character Chhanchhan in the new show of the same name, is a bit similar to her previous character of Khushi in "Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon", the two are not identical.

"Just because Khushi was bubbly, doesn't mean Chhanchhan can't be. If there are 10 bubbly people in the world, that doesn't mean one holds a trademark. Chhanchhan is a fun girl, Khushi was goofy and crazy. Chhanchhan is just a normal, today's girl," the 29-year-old said here Tuesday at the launch of the show.

However, she admits that in real life, she is quite close to Chhanchhan.

"Chhanchhan and Sanaya are very similar and I want to keep it real because this story is also very real, there is no over dramatisation," she said.

Meanwhile, when asked the secret behind a name such as Chhanchhan, Sanaya said: "She is named so because she has been wearing a payal (anklet) since she was a child. She loved the sound so much, that she decided to name herself Chhanchhan.

  8. One more ;)

Sassy Sanaya Irani is amid few actresses who can carry off the girl-next-door look so efficiently. Last seen in 'Iss PyaarKo Kya Naam Doon', Sanaya is coming back with a bang with Sony TV's Chhanchhan. In a conversation with Scrutiny, the bubbly actress discussed about her upcoming show. Excerpts:

Is Chhanchhan is based on yesteryear film Khoobsurat, and Chhanchhan's character is based on the movie's actress Rekha?
I have not seen Khoobsurat, in fact I haven't seen any old film. I was in a boarding school and we are not allowed to watch movies at that time. So I cannot say anything about this. When the brief of the show is given to me, they haven't told me it's related to any film or I have to perform like a certain actor. I was given a very keen brief about the show and it was a story, which we are following. I heard this first time from the media that Chhanchhan is inspired by Khoobsurat.

Tell us something about your character in the show.
She has her own opinion about everything. She has all the morals and values that any person has, but she doesn't go by society. She doesn't follow any society norms just because it was societies laid out. She is not one of those suppressed women basically, like in lots of the show you see mother-in-law says put the ghoonghat like this, Chhanchhan is not like one of those people.

How are you similar to Chhanchhan?
Chhanchhan is very much like Sanaya. She comes from a chilled out family, my family is exactly like that. Chhanchhan loves dog, I also love dogs. I am very opinionated; I also don't follow society rules like my onscreen character. I don't think follow what people have to say, because my parents have never taught me to follow that. They have just taught me to be good, they tell me good things happen to good people, so be a good human being and nothing else matters.

How she is different from Khushi?
Both the girls are happy go. Khushi was bizarre, she was a goofy person whereas Chhanchhan is not. Chhanchhan is today's girl. Khushi and Chhanchhan came from different backgrounds. Chhanchhan's parents are liberal, she is well educated, all of which Khushi didn't have. For Khushi coming to a big city was a big thing, but on the other hand Chhanchhan lives in a big city.

    Do you watch Hindi serials?
Honestly I don't watch Hindi shows.

How was your experience working with Farhan(Khan)?
I have not actually shot so much with Farhan. It's just been a day and for a newcomer he kind of surprised me. Every new person is little scared, nervous initially. I think he is also going through all those things.

  11. One more ... Sanaya and Hina Khan coming on an episode of Masterchef with Kokilaben.

Yeh Kokilaben aur Arnav Khushi ka janam janam ka saath lagta hai!!! :)))

"TV bahus cook up a storm on the sets

Actors Sanaya Irani, Rupal Patel and Hina Khan came on the sets of MasterChef Kitchen Ke Superstars and had a blast. Not only did the three put the contestants — comprising mostly housewives — at ease, but also regaled them with their experiences in the kitchen.

Sanaya and Hina were both in their element, chatting non-stop and trying their hand at everything placed before them. We've learnt that actor Anas Rashid too will be a celebrity guest on the show, not once but twice. After all he is the star of the channel, Star Plus."

So Star Plus is still keeping their ties with Sanaya ... and vice versa :)))

  13. Dia,

Long time - Was suffering from eye infection so was not on computer for this week. So seems like the promotion of Chanchan is on a good large scale. Good - Sanaya needs this kind of PH which can project her in a good high scale and am really glad that Sony is also not leaving any efforts behind. Very marked difference from 4Lions and SP's promotion of Sanaya's earlier show.

The male lead looks good but I don't think he will have substantial role in the show - He would be akin to a side character only and the major drama would be between Supriya and Sanaya and the rest of the cast too are good actors - both from the characters comprising of ChanChan's family as well as the male lead's family. All of them are good actors and I have seen them in SBS season 1. So good for Sanaya that she don't have to slog day in and day out and given that this show is only for 4 days - we may see Sanaya in Jhalak too. Looking forward to this show.

and @Su...no, I really don't think Mohit will be insecure, because IMHO their relationship is beyond such things now...watch this interview of hers and you'll know why I say that -

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0-dA47VcArA&feature=youtu.be

when asked about Mohit's reaction, she's like he's supportive in all that I do, just like my parents - they all are equally excited to see me do something new... for a girl, who ever since I've remembered says that her parents mean the world to her, equating her boyfriend to the level of her parents, even in casual interviews speaks a lot abt their relationship... :)) we, during our MJHT days have dissected each and every offscreen segment of theirs when MJHT was on air..infact towards the end, even dia joined us!! :P so by now I toally know what she means when she speaks the way she speaks abt Mohit.. :P LOL..

  15. but SO SOOOO excited about chanchan... :D :D unlike u guys, I didn't find the guy so exciting when I saw him on the interviews... let's see if he can act well and change my opinion abt him.. :) for me, this show is about chanchan's life...that's it... not so much the love story for me.. I've had my deal with love stories in the past and I've witnessed two completely different, but equally beautiful love stories and I don't think anything can top that for me for a long, long, time now.. :))) so I won't even try to find one in this show.. :))

I'll just watch Sanaya...for being her!! :) because hudging by the description of the character and her interviews, its going to be her 98% in this show I think...she just has to come in and wear a different dress and continue with her life.. :))

    1. Mads, sorry, wasn't around today ... had an overnight flight back home and was zonked during the day! Deleted your deleted comments ;)

I just wanted a good guy, and a fresh face for Chhanchhan ... there would be too many comparisons with Mohit, or even Arjun, and seriously, neither were really exciting propositions. A fresh pair does have that extra zing factor. The guy is okay, he looks good, and he won't have so much to do ... this show is Sanaya's and Supriya's show, and the rest of the cast are stalwarts as well.

What I'm excited about is the theme of the show ... it will be pretty much Sanaya as she is in real life ... but also what a lot of US today are .. a blend of tradition and modern ... just being educated and working, and wearing Western clothes doesn't mean you've lost your traditional base ... most Indian shows tend to show that an educated, working woman, wearing modern clothes, has to be a vamp. Dr. Simran, one of my favorite heroines on telly, was different for exactly that reason - that she was a professional woman, very strong minded, she could take her own decisions, and marriage wasn't the be all and end all of her life. She had no hesitation in throwing out her cheating husband - no thoughts of 'what will people say?' and all that.

Gunjan was similar in some respects, in that she valued being educated and independent. I loved the fact that in S2, she was shown to be an independent, working girl.

I think .. I HOPE ... Chhanchhan will be similar ... and show that having your own opinions and knowing your mind, is a good thing, a sign of intelligence and being a thinking woman of today. Not just rebelling against traditions for the sake of being thought 'modern' on the surface ... but someone who can see the double standards and hypocrisy in the world, especially in many of our customs, and speak out against them. I loved the movie OMG, Oh My God for the same reason ... many things I could identify with, so much like what my dad used to say. I hope Chhanchhan is similar.

  17. suddenly, old khubsoorat became hot property! sonam kapoor's remake in production, this khubsoorat inspired chanchan.. let's see who will rock it. house wife hai sab janti hai started with similar theme. though sona (suhasi) never goes OTT. i like sanaya and her whole hearted smile. but i do want her character not to act in 'know all' way. ek dusare se karte hai pyar hum was with same theme. that girl was big put off with urdu serial style over make-up.

i soo wish sanaya in a role similar to rajni or even shanti .. serious , shatir, practical never OTT.

one show i instantly fell in love - gurbani (i think they changed the name now) that singer.. she always melts my heart with her voice.

Sanaya Irani plays a dog trainer in the forthcoming show on Sony. The actress talks about the change that she would like to see in TV industry and breaking the mould by playing modern, practical woman

She must have been playing a bubbly girl, with few traits borrowed from the simple Jane, in her shows. Like Khushi in her last one, Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon. But now Sanaya Irani will be playing something that is close to her real self. And we hope she means to say that she won't be someone who only believes in sacrificing and shedding tears when she mentions, "I am bold and someone who believes in customs and traditions but in a very practical way. Chhanchhan is modern and stands for what she thinks is right." The actress will be playing the lead character on Sony's forthcoming show Chhanchhan, that's also her name in the serial that will go on air from March 25. Sanaya will be seen as a dog trainer. "That's something which is unique. She does that because she loves animals and she follows her heart and chooses it as her profession. Also, in the serial I will be a part of the family which is liberal and progressive, father is a modern artist, mother is a lecturer, brother a wildlife photographer and sister a tattoo artist. So everyone does what one wants to do," shares Sanaya.

The actress took a break after her last show and says that "it was the most needed thing. I slept for over 18 hours a day, enjoyed travelling and good food. When this offer came I could relate myself to the lead and the name suggested that the entire story is based on her, and by that time I had quite a break, so I agreed."

The actress thinks it won't be tough for her to break the image of Khushi and make a space in audience's hearts as Chhanchhan. "Every character is based on a vision of the producer, director or the writer of the show. So the only thing that I need to do as an actor is to follow the directions and present that character as per the story. The audience is smart and if the story is good they will connect to it and to the character," she says.

Sanaya feels that if there is one change that the industry really needs is the change in the working schedule of the actors. "It is really hectic and I really want that we should also have fixed hours of working, and at least a day off per week. Doing one daily soap is a hectic thing and it takes all your time and energy," she says and adds that one thing that she has learnt in the last few years is to be calm. "I am a punctual person and if I do a certain thing on time, I will expect the same from. But in this industry things don't work this way. So I have learnt that there is no point screaming, things can be better sorted out by being calm and patient," she concludes.

SBS 21st March ... Sanaya, Farhan and the dogs :)

    ReplyDelete
  20. http://www.tellychakkar.com/news/dog-tale-sets-sony-tvs-chhanchhan

Producer Vipul D Shah of Optimystix Productions had a very interesting tale to share at the press conference of his upcoming SET (Sony Entertainment Television) show Chhanchhan.

But before we narrate you the tale, let us tell you a bit about the show.

The serial is a story of this girl named Chhanchhan (Sanaya Irani) who is modern in her approach towards life. And by profession, she is a dog trainer and is very fond of pups.

Interestingly, the actress is fond of dogs in real life too.

Getting back to the tale … the audience will get to see four dogs in the show namely Jahapana, Anarkali, Puchpuch and Dhyanchand.

The fascinating part of the project is that the production team had to audition 160 dogs to select the final four. This was indeed a tedious job according to producer Vipul Shah, who told us, “We had to actually audition so many dogs that we ended up selecting the cast of the show at the last minute.”

Why did it take so much time to audition for dogs? “We actually wanted them to have certain emotions. As a matter of fact, two of the selected canines can even cry,” laughs the producers.

Now that’s an interesting tale. Isn’t it?

one of the MOST powerful SG scenes... :))) or should I say one of the most beautiful... :)) gosh, I suddenly realised, I miss them a LOT!! :)) loved loved Sanaya as gunajn in S2.. and damn all the RPians and RP for ruining the show after this!!! anyway, as they say..karma comes and bites... :)) the position at which Sanaya is now says a LOT about what really happened on the sets then, doesn't it? :)) I guess we can never stop discussing that! :P haha..

    1. Gosh, how crazy we went over these scenes ... :)))

Mads, every time I see Sanaya now and where she is, and RP struggling with that third rate show of hers, I feel exactly the same way! Karma bites for sure ... Sanaya got IPK within six months of MJHT going off air, and now CC within three months of IPK going off air ...

And it felt SOOOOO good to hear how she was being courted by all the channels, shows being visualised with Sanaya only in mind ... the entire cast of Chhanchhan was changed and upgraded once Sanaya signed on! Just goes to show what a place she has made for herself in the industry, with her sheer dedication and hard work ... and her talent!

Remember how the RPians used to make snide remarks about who was the most talented in the show ... Sanaya has proved it beyond doubt now! I guess we will never forget those days ... another reason I feel SOOOO proud of Sanaya today :)))

But I don't miss SaJan actually ... I loved Sanaya as Gunjan, more than I liked Khushi as a character, I realise ... but I liked Arshi as a couple more than SaJan by the end ... I think because Barun was a far better actor than Mohit, and they did make a better pair. I remember having pangs when I first saw Arshi together on screen, and it sank in that SaJan was gone forever ... am sure I will have even bigger pangs when I see Sanaya with Farhan onscreen, and realise that Arshi are finally gone forever. I'm not really looking to see Monaya on screen together ... but I wouldn't mind seeing SaRun on screen again after a few years ... but NOT if Barun again wants to leave halfway!!!

And I still haven't given up my dreams of Sanaya-Viraf :)))

    2. Kavs is back :)) on the other thread. And I think I'm scaring her away again with my long posts here ;)

      Delete
    3. haha...yes, kavs is back, I told her to be back!! :)) LOL.. about MoNaya, well have to say, inspite of being really crazy about them, I do not wish to see them in a new show - for one, I am SURE they won't be able to strike as much of a chemistry with each other as they did during the MJHT days...because I strongly believe that the chemistry we saw during that time was more related to their own feelings and their offscreen relationship..I do not want to take anything away from them as actors, both were fantabulous in S2..but the reason we all loved them at that point was that there were these unsaid, unspoken emotions between the two and since we knew about it, we also tried to find it onscreen...and thats why it was much more enjoyable to us then.. but now if they come back together, it has to be a combination of brilliant characterisation and and even brilliant acting by the two of them to create that kind of chemistry again.. :)

As for SaRun, they were definitely better a couple onscreen than SaJan, because their love story was portrayed to be so.. ArHi as characters were so dynamically opposite and the build up of their story was more of a mills and boon, will make u go weak in ur knees kind of a romance, so unlike the realistic and very simple touch that SaJan had... :) which is why it appealed to a larger part of the audience, since most of the girls grow up reading mills and boon romance.. and hardly anyone would love to read SaJan type of romance.. :))

Again, both Barun and Sanaya are equally good as actors (Sanaya better than Barun.. :P ah, my bias is going to kill me one day? :P), but then, he is much better than Mohit in comparison, so I think SaRun would be great together in another show, but whether they will be as a rage is ArHi were is doubtful because again, like I said, the characters played a major part in oozing out the chemistry between the two of them.. :)) atleast in the initial addictive phase and then their acting took over our brains! :P

and oh yess!! I haven't given up my hopes about Sanaya-VIraf as well ... :)))

  22. Excerpt from Barun's new interview ... part on Sanaya. Link for interview posted on other thread.

How do you feel about Sanaya reprising Rekha's role from Khoobsurat in Chhanchhan?
Sanaya is a very good actress and that she has got a show whose whole promotion is banking on her, goes to show how much the channel and the production house believe in her.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. To elaborate on that: Yes! The channel and the PH believe in her not only for her acting abilities but also for her huge sense of commitment!

Just San- fanning, not Barun- bashing.:D

      Delete
    2. Hehe ... you won't hear any criticism from me about San fanning here ... this blog was made because I'm a San fan! All comments about Sanaya don't necessarily have to be taken to reflect on Barun ... she is her own person, and always was, way before Barun came on the scene.

And yes, Sanaya is hugely committed to her work ... I think she's the type of person that once she takes on something, she fulfills it to the best of her ability, and gives it her all. Otherwise she won't do it. I totally understand that because I'm very similar ... If a thing's worth doing, it's worth doing well.

  23. Today I deleted my Desi Tv bookmark for IPK and replaced it with the bookmark for Chhanchhan. This was the site where I downloaded episodes of IPK every night as soon as they were posted. Felt a pang. Seemed like finally saying the last goodbyes to IPK. Hope Chhanchhan will take its place in my heart ... but will miss Arshi a lot. I don't think I will enjoy another couple in a hurry ... CC-Manav will be cute, but not a passionate couple.

Maybe if San's next show is another love story ... or if I find another heroine worth watching in the meantime ... can wait for the first, the second seems unlikely as of now. No other actress has impressed me nearly as much as Sanaya since the last four years ... and that includes the big screen as well.

    1. hey Dia (hugs hun).its been almost 4 months of no TV watching since IPK ended...I am also hoping that Sanaya's show would help me move on from IPK...but there are very little chances that another screen couple will have the same magic as them...

    2. Hey Appy! Is that you?! *hugssss* Where have you been, girl?! Good to see you again!

I know what you mean ... Arshi magic won't happen again in a hurry ... but I'm not watching Chhanchhan for a love story, so it should help me move on. I'm watching it for Sanaya of course, but I LOVE shows with strong heroines ... have mentioned that more than once ;) ... so that is another reason for me to look forward to this show. A modern educated woman of today is my dream heroine ... am looking forward to see what my favorite actress makes of her.
My favorite actress ... and my favorite type of heroine. A girl who uses her intelligence to bring about changes. Can't go wrong, can it?! :))) It may not be to the taste of the TRP audience, who likes their women meek and quiet ... but as long as it gets decent enough TRP's to stay on air for a couple of years, I will be happy.

If it is, this is a dream- come- true for me. I have been rooting for this from the last season!

    1. I read this on a couple of sites, including Tellychakkar, and it also came in some newspaper. Am guessing it's true, discounting the mirch masala ... Sanaya always wanted to do Jhalak, even last year, she and Hina Khan were not allowed by Star Plus.

As for pipping Drashti, that part is the mirch masala, I'm guessing ... with MB on six days a week, there is no way Drashti could manage to do a weekend dance show as well. And MB from everyone's reports here, seems to be going the IPK way ... the show rests on DD, as VD keeps taking off every now and then.

Chhanchhan will air only four days a week, and going by the experienced PH, they will keep the storyline in control, and give footage to all side characters as well. Sanaya will get maximum screen space, of course, especially initially ... but the show will be more balanced than IPK was. So she will have more time to fit in a dance show.

      Delete
    2. Yes. Even I felt the DD bit of it was mirch masala.
On Chhanchhan- I like it that it airs only 4 days a week. BALH was like that when I used to watch it. Don't know if they have changed it. Right from then, when I was watching only Sony, I respected the channel for that decision, even though I did not know the BTS agonies of the cast and crew. So, that way, San will have time for JDJ. But I expect her and only her to be the heart and soul of the show.

If IPK had both her and Barun shouldering the show, this one will be a one- woman- show! The only help she will get is from those cute doggies! I agree Supriya is a good actress, but I guess it will be difficult to sustain interest unless they have San on the frame 90pc of the time!(Though I believe even there it was her mostly even when Barun was fully functional. ASR was interesting only in relation to Khushi, whereas Khushi was the one factor that bound the whole show together. I guess that was how the role was written- she was such an endearing character. Actually in contrast with Zoya, I must confess, who mostly keeps to herself...I think that is because they have a jumbo filler track with the other cast, so they don't need to overwork the leads.

And I don't have the heart to badmouth them for overworking the leads, because I enjoyed every minute they were on the screen. Plus, from BS interview you posted...Barun wanted to leave before they started overworking the leads too- right during the Payash marriage track, when the whole cast was fully utilised. So, HE overworked himself. Also, how come Sanaya never complains? She, in fact wanted to work harder to make the show a success once Barun left!If he could not sustain interest for longer than that, I AGREE WITH THAT SP DISCLAIMER- he is not interested in television. And yes, I do feel bad for people pointing fingers at him for wanting to follow his heart.)

On MB going IPK way- it never built up that kind of frenzy with the leads. The chemistry never reached me, except in their verbal volleys. There is not a single MB romance scene I want to rewatch. But I definitely would like to rewatch some of the Madhu- Dipali scenes. That itself shows they have probably not gone the IPK way. Both Bittoji and Dipali have chemistry with Madhu and RK....the show looks interesting with any permutation and combination of these 4 characters.

Still, they introduced another dark parallel hero- I am actually confused. Is VD leaving? The grandeur with which the second hero entered...it was like how Shiv was introduced in BV. If he was just a parallel track, there was no need for hyping him up so much. Any way in the unlikely event that VD will leave, I feel the second lead, with the kid too to add to the picture perfect family, might be there to add to RK's junoon right till the end of the show!

    3. Su,

      On this part,

So, HE overworked himself. Also, how come Sanaya never complains? She, in fact wanted to work harder to make the show a success once Barun left!If he could not sustain interest for longer than that, I AGREE WITH THAT SP DISCLAIMER- he is not interested in television.

well if I were in BS's shoe I would also have wanted to quit in Feb. Why? because he always wanted to explore new avenues, would have taken a break and done MAMR and then would have decided to do what next. Would it have been a good decision - He would have been bashed no doubt but in retrospective it would have been the same bashing he had to endure in the end. It is not about being fit for television or not - It is about what you want to do next. He felt MAMR was a good chance and grabbed it. And I don't think he would be back to television until and unless he is completely satisfied that he did his level best efforts here.

And he did take Baat to completion so I wouldn't say he is not fit for television. And I hope he does well in BW just to show SP a thing or two.

Regarding MB, I liked the new guy Sultan - he seems to be a decent actor. No idea if the team is trying to sideline VD and he will be in the back and the story will now focus on MB and her struggles. Something akin to what the makers had planned for Khushi after Arnav' death. If so,yes then MB and Sultan and the kid(he is very cute and good and am loving the kid angle with Sultan and MB) would be the major focus with VD in the background. If this is the thinking they are going on, I would say it is good because RK has humiliated madhu beyond redemption and I personally would want Madhu to move on with someone who admires her for who she is. Let's see if this is the way they are taking the story forward. One sensible thing that Nautanki films does it that it hardly bends to fans perception of the characters and is till now sticking to their portrayal of story and characters so in future too, I don't think they will bend to fans threats or dhamkhis.

    4. I think BALH still airs only four days a week. The shows at 9 pm and later air four days, as they have CID and Crime Patrol on Fridays. Good for Sanaya - her load will be less ... and if she takes up JDJ, then even better, because she WILL have the time for it.

Me too, expect that the show will revolve completely around Sanaya, and she is prepared for that. In IPK too, the last few months, Sanaya was there for the bulk of the time, she had the maximum screen space. Starting with the kidnap track, where NO other track worked - Masala mama, Bubbly-Payash ... they were badly written, for sure, but they were also poorly acted. ONLY the tracks with Sanaya worked - Khushi-Mami, Khushi-Shyam (even though we hated their scenes! but their acting was excellent), Khushi-NK. As a result, Sanaya got the maximum screen space ... and that continued pretty much till the end of the show. So she already carried the show on the shoulders for the bulk of the latter half of the show ... she's used to it! And like you said, she was prepared to continue with IPK the same way ... she would have been the central character if IPK had continued. She will very much be the main character here ... I think similar to Khushi, who built bridges with each and every member of the Raizada parivaar. Chhanchhan will build bridges with every member of her sasuraal. That was what Rekha did in Khubsoorat as well.

Not following MB at all ... I did see glimpses of the new guy ... if VD is leaving, I guess they are putting alternatives into place. VD-DD never built up the same frenzy as Arhi anyway, and the last few days whatever little I saw, RK is coming across as positively villainous and a complete jerk! Arey, so what if he 'loves' the girl madly, as he claims ... that doesn't give him license to insult and hurt her at every step, just to 'hide his own vulnerability and battle his own demons'. This kind of love I don't understand at all!

      Delete
    5. Dia,

Me too thinks Sanaya would be major in CC but the other star cast is also good and one plus of this PH is that they never let any one character be the sole focus - they do the screen sharing very good between everyone and so I expect Sanaya to be only around 50% of the time and when Supriya comes in, then it would mostly San-Supriya and San with other other members. In a way it is good as Sanaya wouldn't be burdened too much and she can also take up JDJ if she wants.

Regarding MB, I too am at a phase where I actually want MB to move away from RK - I can't understand the love if any that RK has for MB and the insults and hurt that RK threw at MB were enough for me to turn off that character. Maybe that is the reason the PH is getting in parallel tracks and getting the alternate pairing to pick up pace. At least in IPK Arnav never insulted Khushi this bad. So maybe the story of MB would be what it would have been if Arnav didn't turn up on the marriage pandal after learning the past truth. Arnav giving up Khushi and Khushi moving on in life and finding some other guy who could give her the support. Makes me wonder why didn't 4Lions go that way if they knew Barun will move out in November. They could have made Arnav not accept Khushi and moving away from her in the remarriage and breaking all his ties with her. And then you could have the past tussle and both feeling separation and finally Arnav leaving khushi and going abroad. Then they could have shown the story of Khushi struggling alone and moving on. Depending on the feedback they could have gotten Arnav-Khushi together in the end or could have left it at that - but then all that Hamesha wouldn't have any meanings but still you do understand where both of them stand and it is hardly anyone's fault. So somehow I feel what all story lines GH couldn't write for IPK, He is trying them out for MB though the character of RK is now beyond redeemable for me. I am not a big fan of RK-MB now and am okay if MB actually moves away from RK and becomes something on her own.

    6. Sarada,

"well if I were in BS's shoe I would also have wanted to quit in Feb. Why? because he always wanted to explore new avenues, would have taken a break and done MAMR and then would have decided to do what next."

Then he should not have taken on a new show. He should have taken a break after Baat.

I agree it is every man for himself, out there- but you do tend to build up an understanding 4 the team you are with. Any one of the fans could see that IPK would sink without Arhi. Sanaya would have resurrected it (Comment choked out under strict glare from Dia here. LOL. But seriously, I really believe that.), but it would have been a lot of heartache for the viewers.

When the whole cast and crew was so accommodating about his movie, I would have expected him to put his BW dreams on hold for Sanaya's sake. For the team's sake. That is what being a part of a team means. You stand up for each other, despite your differences (and here there were none evident)...you see the project to its end. That is what teamwork is about. So, it is difficult 4 me to fathom Barun leaving, as it is 4 many others.

But I WLLL NOT BASH HIM, because I believe everyone has the right to follow his heart. I do reserve the right to criticise him though I will always be a fan of his acting.

I agree with you and Dia on RK becoming unredeemable- he became that quite some time back 4 me. So, even I'd love to see her settle down with Sultan. But since the producer has confirmed over and over again that RK is the hero, I think we will be seeing Madhu reuniting Sultan with the kid's mom after many epis of glycerine.

They will probably make RK let go of Madhu, to find her heart's desire and she will reach the conclusion that it is indeed him. That will be the only way he can be redeemed, I suppose- that he gave her up to another man.

      Dia,

Agree with you on the poor acting from the rest of the cast.
Only the senior cast delivered for me apart from Barun and Sanaya and Abhaas.
Akshay, Deepali and DB are not great actors- of the lot, I felt Deepali was better, even though I liked her the least.Akshay is looking more and more incomptetent with his PV role. I feel bad for him.

When I compare with MB: the seniors suck, except 4 Raza Murad.! I like Bittoji and Dipali and even Sicki...and sometimes deedu too. So, they have excellent material to work on as fillers.

Where IPK lost was the lack of a vamp like Dipali. But then, the story could not have accommodated a character of that sort.

Did 4 L learn a lesson from IPK? Raziya is too much of a villain in QH. But the CVs do show evil getting punished time and again. Badi Bi takes revenge on Raziya, on a small scale for now. Makes me go WT, but a lot of people feel some amount of justice is being served.

The other excellent technique they have used is taking the thorn out with a thorn. They have pitted Raziya's pawn against herself. Tanveer itches to get back at Raziya for demeaning her in public. Tanveer gets insulted and called all the bad names fans wanted to call her- by Raziya. Keeps fans happy!

(I hope I am making some sense even though you are not watching QH.:D Any way, it is just a comparison.)

    7. Sorry, guys, I do not want any further discussions on Barun and his leaving in this thread. This thread is about Sanaya and Chhanchhan, and ONLY her, and I want it to be all positive from now onwards for Sanaya. IPK is over, and Sanaya has moved on ... happily her work and her contribution to IPK has been recognized and acknowledged after IPK, much more than it was during it, and she has reaped the rewards. So all is good.

Su, agree with you about Akshay, I feel he was the weakest actor on the show, followed by Deepali and Daljeet. Daljeet I would call limited, not bad. Deepali was adequate. I feel that's why neither the Payash track nor the Shyali track worked too well, none of the actors could display the emotions more than superficially, apart from the fact that the DKL track showed Shyam getting away with far too much ... too much of evil over good. So I agree that in QH, showing Raziya getting some jhatkas every now and then will work better. Am following only from the discussions here ... not seen the show for a while.

Also agree about the junior cast in MB - Deepali, Bittuji and MB's sister are good, sometimes better than Drashti. They can keep up the interest. Plus Deepali is pure vamp, but Trishna (is that her name?) is very real, she has good and bad days ... and Bittuji is sweet, and their characters are all reasonably well etched. So you have a range of people to play around with, apart from Madhu, RK and Sultan and his son. Enough to keep the show going.

    8. I agree with u dia... :) I mean, I never spoke much about this Barun leaving drama..one reason was I was not keeping up with all the news, but the second reason was that I strongly believe in "jo ho gaya, woh ho gaya..use bhool jao" philosophy...I mean, discussing it is just going to make us all irritated again...and then we just stop enjoying what we have now.. and what we have now is Sanaya's new show (for die hard Sanaya fans like me and dia) and Barun's movie and whatever new he comes in, for die hard Barun fans... whatever he did then, it may be right, it may be wrong...but it cannot be changed now...but maybe our attitude towards the whole thing can be changed.. :) as for unfairness caused by it towards Sanaya and the rest of the cast and crew, well who says life is fair? Not everything in life happens the way one wants it...but its how u deal with it that makes the difference..and most of them are doing well, despite of the drama that occured - akshay and abhas got new roles elsewhere, the rest of the cast will soon get some roles.. and since the biggest injustice was towards Sanaya, she should have recieved the biggest share of justice and she has - she bagged a lead role in a different type of show, along the likes of Supriya Pathak... in a way that curse of abrupt IPK ending seemed to be like a boon for her.. :)

so let us all just try to move on from the drama that happened then and try to enjoy the new things that are coming towards us.. :))

    10. Su, Sarada ... perfectly okay, guys ... but let's move on now. No point playing the blame game any more, the principal actors have all moved on, it's rather silly of us to be sitting here and still crying foul.

And agree with Mads, I was one of the few most vociferous about IPK continuing ... but whatever happens, happens for the best ... Sanaya never really got her due in IPK, and even if it had continued, the calls for BS's return would never have given it a fair chance, and would have torpedoed it sooner or later.

Here she has gotten a show tailormade for her, the show not only revolves around her, but is selling on her shoulders ... and she gets to play a character she will enjoy playing, without the OTT of Khushi (how HAPPY that makes me!!!), and again with good coactors. I include the supporting cast in this ... Farhan remains to be seen, but he does look decent enough in his first promo. And honestly, this seems a character I will enjoy even more ... I always wanted Sanaya to play a SENSIBLE character, and it seems she is doing exactly that here. Even though she will be a bahu, she won't be the meek downtrodden type - no Gopi vhau or even Sandhya beendni for sure! A girl with a voice, and opinions of her own ... a girl after my own heart! :)))

As for Barun, he has two movies in his kitty ... more than many actors have when they take the plunge. His fans should be happy too.

Sanaya made me laugh ... well said, Chhanchhan! Put him in his place! He deserves it for that smart aleck comment about your name!
And she is looking gorgeous *dream* Seems like all our wishes for a good wardrobe will be fulfilled here!

    6. Mads,

      Hi-5!

This guy is good. I am impressed too. He has an air about him. I am so loving it!

      Dia,

IPK drew me away from Sony. Chhanchhan is going to take me back to my fav channel. I liked the promo 4 Amita ka Amit too.

Watched Star Guild Awards yesterday. BALH won so many awards...I want San to win an award for this one...please....It is high time she got it!

After I got excited about the dog peeing promo, I tried to find out about the writer. DOGS! It is such a brilliant idea!

There was only one decent article on Vipul D Shah.

      http://www.indiantelevision.com/interviews/writersdesk/vipul.htm

'Where do you draw your inspiration from?
I draw my inspiration or flair for comedy from the small and oft forgotten incidents / conversations that take place in our daily lives and the characters I get to see and interact with regularly. See, I 've told you, it is not difficult for me to search for a comical twist in any situation and this is my biggest strength. Political satire doesn't impress me because I hardly take any interest in it.

How do you go about creating your characters?
Almost all my characters have traits of people I normally get to meet or observe in real life. Whatever shades a character in a comedy serial requires is more or less taken care of by this.

It is said that in shooting a comedy quite a bit of improvisation takes place on the shoot which must be requiring you to alter the script regularly. How do you cope with this?
Are you present on the shoots? Yes. I have been present on 95 per cent of my shoots. On many an occasion I have even written the future episodes on the shoot. This is because unlike soaps which move in a set style or pattern, the style of comedy ought to be altered immediately if on the shoot you find that what actually comes out is not quite what you expected it to be like.'

Now this is what I call a complete family entertainer!
Everything about it is for the whole family, especially if you love dogs!

I am definitely getting my parents hooked on to this one! It should change their perspective on serials being trash!

    7. Nice article! The good thing is that this guy's previous work supports his words :)))

Saw some tweets from Sanjiv Sharma, who is the other producer of Optimystix, and Sneha Rajani, head of Sony ... they both seemed excited about Chhanchhan after watching the first scenes. Will try to post those tweets here.

Family entertainer, light hearted, no rona dhona, dogs ... my husband will enjoy this one too! And I am surprised to find on every trip home, more and more fans of IPK within my own family, the uncles and aunties, apart from my own mom ... who will be happy to watch Sanaya on screen again. And many of them are dog lovers ... I think along with Sanaya, the dogs will attract quite a few people to the show!

  26. Must watch on tv - From Hindustan Times

"CHHANCHHAN Watch two generations of feisty women, Chhanchhan Sarabhai and Uma Ben Borisagara, talk about clashing cultures in this new show. SONY 9pm"

The show is creating a lot of buzz ... hope it translates into TRP's .... fingers crossed, please Godjee ...

Found it rather amusing that Chhanchhan's last name is Sarabhai ... considering that one of the most popular sitcoms in recent past is Sarabhai vs Sarabhai. That program had modern saas and middle class bahu, and their clashes were always fun to watch, good humored, without any hint of malice or typical vampishness ...
This one has modern bahu and conservative saas ... but the big change is that a modern bahu is NOT a vamp! Getting more and more excited for the show!

"Chhanchhan is not a Regressive Show - Sanaya Irani

Sanaya Irani, who plays a dog trainer in her new show Chanchan, says she took it up at her father's insistence.

"I was offered two shows at the same time and my father asked me about the titles of the show. When he heard about Chanchan, he insisted at taking it up. He calls me Chanchan when I wake up in the morning."

On her character, Sanaya says, "I am a dog lover in real life too. I have two dogs at home. I am also very opinionated like Chanchan and don't believe in following society norms. She does what she feels is right. She is a bubbly and happy-go-lucky girl who makes people smile. I wasn't given any brief during the auditions and had to be my natural self. And, for the first time, I was satisfied with my audition."

So, does she feel the pressure of playing the title role? "Not at all. If I felt the pressure, I wouldn't have taken it up in the first place." The actress says the show isn't overly dramatic like other shows on the tube and there won't be unnecessary rona dhona in it. "The USP of the show is that it's not regressive and the character is not a suppressed one. I am being me while playing her. I won't have to shed copious tears unlike other shows on the tube. Life isn't as dramatic as it is shown on television."

Talking about Supriya Pathak, who plays her mother-in-law, Sanaya says, "Supriya is really very sweet. I didn't know much about her and had just seen her movie Khichdi. She is a nice person to work with."

Chanchan starts today and will air Monday to Thursday, 9pm, on Sony Entertainment Television."

Her dad calls her Chhanchhan? Sweet!!! Hope this show does well ... she took it up on her dad's say so, and a dad's blessings never go empty.

Sanaya happily admits she is opinionated ... ROFL. Well, we knew that ... the girl has strong opinions, and doesn't mind voicing them ... although she generally does it in a fairly diplomatic manner. Unless under severe emotional strain, of course ... tab toh usko sau khoon maaf!

Dog lover, animal lover ... again, knew that ... and something I have very much in common with Sanaya and Chhanchhan. Looking forward to the dogs on the show!

She sounds very happy that she won't have to cry much on this show! Sanaya, we know you hate crying, but girl, you are so good at emotional scenes!!! You make us all cry with you!

  28. Another TOI article - an expansion of the HT article posted above

"The Two Generations of Feisty Women - Chhanchhan

Starting tonight, enliven your living rooms as you witness a classic tale of the clash of cultural conditioning and watch two generations of feisty women: Chhanchhan Sarabhai (played by Sanaya Irani) and Uma Ben Borisagar (played by Supriya Pathak) redefine the quest for a day when east meets west and the joys of life are fulfilled. Titled Chhanchhan, this show on Sony Entertainment Television takes a fresh perspective with an aim to capture the minds and hearts of India's forward-thinking women.

Produced by Optimystix, this new-age woman-oriented fiction show is a story of the beautiful and vivacious girl named Chhanchhan, who is a dog trainer by profession. She is a free-spirited, independent young woman, modern in her thought but still deeply rooted in her culture. She is the Indian woman of today, who stands up for what is right and raises her voice against all that is wrong. In complete contrast to her, is the strict disciplinarian Umaben, who takes all the decisions in her household and sets the rules for her family. Set in Ahmedabad, the show explores how the vivacious Chhanchhan applies her intelligence, plays her cards well, and brings a dysfunctional family that she marries into, back on track.

The cast includes a strong ensemble of actors led by the veteran Supriya Pathak, the vivacious Sanaya Irani, who is paired opposite newcomer Farhan Khan, along with noted actors like Anang Desai, Arvind Vaidya, Shraman Jain, Arshima Thapar among several others, who ably support the main cast.

A powerful story of self-reliance, determination and family values, the story of Chhanchhan is narrated in a simplistic, real and light-hearted manner. The show will capture every emotion of a young, simpleat-heart girl, yet fun loving, who finds happiness in small things, and enjoys life as it comes her way. She has been brought up with modern and ethnic values and she loves to practise them in her day to day life in her own way.

So tune into Sony Entertainment Television every Monday to Thursday at 9:00 pm and welcome Chhanchhan into your homes."
