14/1/14 - Epi 12 ... Rudra the Destroyer

Tuesday 14th Jan

 Rudra the destroyer
Rudra the brutal animal

Rudra the Sunny Deol ka puttar Wink  Sunny Deol of Gadar fame ... he who decimated an entire army with his bare hands. Rudra has been taking some lessons there!

Action scenes very violent and explicit ... while in the background rang one of the most sublime songs ever sung in the history of Indian movies ... Vande Mataram by Lata Mangeshkar from the movie Anand Math.

Why did Rudra bring only five men to counter what he knew was a force of 50-60 men? There's being heroic, and there's being stupid ... this was definitely the latter. No wonder his CO warned him to act with his brain ... was the entire platoon parked outside the Thakur's haveli to give a sense of false security to the Thakur? And how was that helpful?

How many guns did the BSD miss in their search anyway? Varun had one hidden right under Paro's mattress ... apart from all the rest yesterday.

Prince Charming's mask falls ... but Paro slept peacefully though the entire fight, including the unmasking, and woke up at the worst possible moment ... she didn't see her prince turn into a frog, but she did see Rudra kill him.
And the mother of all MU's starts ... here!!! This MU is gonna be really tough to explain away ... seeing a man blowing her hubby's brains out in front of her eyes ... no woman is going to take too kindly to that.

The good thing is ... Paro is definitely a widow ... no coming back from the dead for her Prince Charming ... errr Frog ... Only thing is, Paro doesn't think that's a good thing ... yet. And she's not going to think that for a long time to come.

What I really, really liked ... Rudra wasted no time in trying to reason with Varun ... no long speeches about iss ladki ko chhod do, etc., etc. ... just a terse 'as you wish' ... and bam! I've often wished that heroes in movies did the same ... those long farewell speeches always give the opportunity for someone to jump in and spoil the action.

This was basically the episode in a nutshell.

The precap was amazing ... beautiful and sensitive ... Rudra Paro on opposite sides of a mirrored glass, so near yet so far ... two shattered souls, searching for their other half.

  1. Fantastic epi today if I discounted cinematic licence. :) Ashish is surely owning these epis. His body language and screen presence is amazing. Can't wait till Sanaya comes into her own. Hopefully soon! My fave scene today was Varun metamorphosing into the evil guy. His body language and facial muscles wrought about a nice change. Kudos to the RR team right from casting to camera to directing. Loving it!

  3. Not one of my favorite episode, but impressed by the work put in by the crew and Ashish into it. My enjoyed the last couple of minutes and the precap was amazing.

I am reading a lot of comments saying that Paro's character has not opened up, waiting to see Paro to come into her own etc. want to say I disagree. Sanaya is playing a painfully shy, demure, not very educated village girl who has never stepped out of her village. She is traumatized by her nightmares which makes it even worse for her. In this journey from hate to love we might see lot's of transformation in Paro and she recognizing her strength, but that journey has yet to start. In contrast to Rudra's lager then life soldier image Paro may seem too quite but that is the beauty of that character, her calmness and restraint compared to Rudra's anger and aggression. Sanaya is playing it so beautifully and with minimal dialogues she is conveying the myriad of emotions Paro is going through, sad that this effort of hers is being under valued.

    1. Uma,
I agree with you on the comments as well as on Paro's character. She has started her journey at one extreme end, and there is a long way to go. For now, she is playing the quiet, demure shy village girl to perfection, a very subtle and restrained performance. She says it all with her eyes and her body language ... subtlety is always under-rated. I saw it happen with Gunjan as well, Sanaya was the most under-rated actor there of the four, and she is the furthest ahead in her field today. There the contrast was with Nupur/Rati ... here the contrast will be with herself as she opens up, so I'm confident she will ace it.

  5. The lyrics of the Rangrasiya title song ... love the song!

Inka saath hai jaise... Maati sang Kumhaar !
Maati ban jaye hai murat, Lage iska haath !!

    Chaap-Tilak donon ki hove...
    Jab hoven yeh saath !

    Ye bhi hai kuchh aadha-aadha..
    Woh bhi rahe adhuri...

Phir bhi phere munh kyun khade hain...
    Aisi kya majboori...

    Suni-suni raatein aur Nindiya...
    Rangrasiya...
    Rang jaa re..
    Rang-rang gayi , Sapnon mein...
    ~~ Rangrasiya ~~

  7. loved that your first thought was sunny deol.. man that ashish is hamming it up! i ffed the action scenes bcos of overaction.. all the slow motion falling and getting up and the umpteen beatings.. and the big rifles standing waiting for rudra to walk wounded for his convo and heroics.. was so ugh.

but sanaya shined brilliantly. the very few moments she had on screen today.. were immensely memorable.
