My TV watching has gone down tremendously ... I have barely two shows on my watch list currently. What has happened to Indian TV?
Gustakh Dil ... going okay.
Ek Boond Ishq ... slow with ups and downs.
Jodha Akbar ... haven't been watching since the Jodha pseudo pregnancy track started ... anyone know what happened in that?
Madhubala ... haven't been watching it much, but get glimpses of the promos and occasional scenes ... is Madhu pregnant again? Seems to be getting interesting again.
Balika Vadhu ... this must be the worst acted track going on in BV ... saw the episode where Shiv's mother is told she isn't his mother ... it was horrible! Awful acting from all concerned ... I switched channels in sheer disgust!
Qabool Hai ... watched for Mohit's entry ... that guy seriously needs to learn acting. And he needs to leave Samrat behind ... he is so stereotyped! KSG even with ponytail is much better to watch! Speaking of ponytails ... WHY in the name of God does KSG have that thing?!
Veera ... watched for the new kids on the block ... I like Ranvi, and the actor is trying his best to act like Bhavesh ... found that cute. Not impressed with the new Veera at all.
Just realised from this list, there are no decent sitcoms after SGP :(

JA: Pseudopregnancy resolved...didn't get who exactly it was who gave Jodha symptoms of pregnancy and murdered the medicine woman. Now they are on to some maid being harassed by someone again.
ReplyDeleteMB: Pregnant again? I thought this was the first time she got pregnant. RK wanted her to abort the child first, then he happily went to the Doctor and called the ultrasound image 'alien faced' which the doctor found charming. Then he got her the cradle, and now will be crying as she is going to abort today or tomorrow...(As per Promo. At least ST nips them in the bud, not letting the pregnancies go to 7 and 8 months ;-) And I bet that is going to push him deeper into alcoholism, which gives him all the right to accuse Madhu of having aborted the kid for her Bollywood dreams.
BV: Very boring track..and I did not get why Shiv was upset. After all, he has always called his real mom chhottimaa...looks like everyone is creating a fuss over nothing.
QH: Lol. They'd better build up on Mohit's character, if he is supposed to be the 'other hero' of QH...and I hope Mohit will not repeat the words 'charmer' and 'flamboyant' for the next two years. Or at least the interviewers should come up with some other question- tired of the parroting.
Veera: Did not catch the show per se- only one SBS segment. That girl played the youngest sister in QH...was not great there, I prefer her replacement any day. Shivin is good, of course.
Ek Muthhi Aasmaan: The girls have grown up, and they are both beautiful...a smooth transition into adulthood, I felt. The show seems to be written well too.
Aankh Michholi: Lost interest with all that drama before the wedding.
I stand corrected .. I have no idea whether this is Madhu's first pregnancy or the second. I hope Nautanki has a more interesting story line in place for Rangrasiya, and better actors as well. The actors in MB all have a stock of two frozen expressions now. Maybe the result of the show being two years old. Although they're now approaching the main story of Madhu becoming a heroine, I really can't watch it for any length of time. VD was the most interesting character, but he seems to have lost his edge.
DeleteBV has gone all over the place. Far too much of the flashback sequence ... was it because the new Ganga has gone off for her wedding? So we only had the Shiv's family side, that too, the elders, and they are excruciatingly boring. Anandi's side is far more interesting, with Dadisaa always adding her acerbic comments to everything.
By the way, what happened to Nilu's husband? And who exactly is Sanchi? Is she Nilu's daughter or Shiv's real sister? And there is another brother floating around, whose son is he? I never paid attention to this family earlier, so I have no clue.
The girl who replaced the new Veera in QH (that sounds convoluted, but I hope you know what I mean, Su!) is one of Navya's friends. A very cute actress - I liked her in Navya too. The other friend from Navya is now in SC, as the youngest sister ... younger than Kusum ... Kumari, I think. She was also a decent actress.
The new Veera is being too chirpy, she needs to tone down. It's not easy stepping into the shoes of those kids ... they left huge footprints ... all credit to them. They were fabulous! I wonder, is there going to be a love story between Veera and Baldev, or will their enmity continue? They sure hate each other's guts right now.
Another replacement in the offing ... read it in the news today. The older daughter Ami, in Aankh Micholi, is being replaced. Haven't watched it for some time, but caught bits of the MS episode with QH on Monday ... Manav and Gautami are good actors, I loved the song picturization on them. Looks like it's going the typical saas bah way, but I'll catch it off and on, just for the actors, they are still nice to watch.
QH ... another show where I have lost interest. The problem with Gul is that she has only one villain, and that villain never gets caught during the entire duration of the show. She needs to have more tracks, and end each track smoothly, and move on to the next. Nautanki doesn't have the same problem ... in MB, they have gotten rid of MB's father, Sultan ... albeit after prolonged tracks, but at least that gives the feel that the show is moving. I think new characters do freshen the show in that respect ...
But I don't really see Haider's character doing that for QH ... not unless Mohit's acting improves, and he develops some chemistry with Humera. So far I haven't seen that. But I've watched only one episode with Mohit, so it's unfair to judge him yet.
MB: What I love about the show is the cameo roles and Dips. ST is good at bringing freshness and moving from one track to the other...but I what feel gets lost is the continuity in the leads. They seem to go back to square one at the beginning of each track. And it is sad that they have reached the premise finally, but dragged it to bore their viewers. Yesterday I shut off my TV when RK started spewing some nonsense about Papaya and what not!
DeleteQH: That girl was there in hum paanch too, I heard. Very bubbly and cute- will go places.
It is not that Gul's villains never get caught...at least in QH, they are given second and third chances.
Raziya was caught torturing Badi Bi and was sent to a masala Factory, where she showed glimpses of the madness lurking beneath. She was pardoned and got back, for Humeira who had just recovered from Dissociative Fugue. It was a favour Gafur asked of Rashid.
Tanveer was also caught and received a heavy dose of firing from the religious elders...let off by Asad because she is carrying a child. And he fails to see the logic that she will continue to attempt harming Zoya...
But yes, like you said they are there till the end of the show...at least Raziya is. I guess teh day all her secrets are revealed will be the beginning of the show ending.
Haider: Second episode was better than the first- I hope that means they are rewriting his character. I think till the last minute and probably even now, they are not sure if Vikrant is returning. There are Haider shots aired in SBS which seem to have been scrapped.
BV: Lol. Now that you ask me, even I am not sure...never bothered.
Saanchi is Shiv's cousin. Nilu's husband has become shaheed I think. There is one mad man in Jaitsar...not sure how he is related to any one. And that brother floating around nmust be Saanchi's brother too..but I always thought he was Nilu's son...so unless she remarried, I guess Shiv is the only child she bore.
Aankh Micholi: Ami overacts, even though I find her cute. The younger girl is much better. Does not look like it will be kitchen politics , going by the determined look in Shruti's eyes as she returned home with Sanjay. I think she knows what she is up against, and has him firmly behind her. Should be a nice track.
Monabbatein: One EK show that failed to impress with the promo. Looks more like a SP show, than a EK product.
I used to watch my mom boiling with disgust during some TV soaps and thought its funny to get soo involved in a fictional series. But when I see Bani-Ishq da kalma, sometimes, I boil.. may be that boiling comes with age or a PMS sign! Point is.. sometimes I keep tuning in to this no-frills show with good story.
ReplyDeleteEarlier I posted here about Tumhari Pakhi based on a Bengali novel.. but this storyline is very diff. from the novel or as I remember it. May be I am wrong there.
S
I used to watch Bani off and on ... another show which one can watch once or twice a week to keep up. Yes, good story, decent show, watchable. I like Rajji-Sohum better than Bani ... or I did. Haven't watched for ages, will try to catch it and see what's happening there.
DeleteTumhari Paakhi is supposed to be based on a novel, but I don't know the story, so can't judge. The Paakhi irritates me, she is too sugary sweet and perfect ... typical SP bahu. And the kitchen politics is very Ekta-ish ... family sabotaging every attempt of the bahu to do anything. If they all don't want her, why don't they just tell her that? The politics in Gustakh Dil is far better etched ... and the girl looks and sounds as though she is actually from a village. Paakhi's swift transformation to city girl, complete with perfect accented English, is totally unbelievable!
Speaking of Ekta, I caught the second episode of Mohabbatein ... hmm, not sure. The South Indian mom was OTT, but I liked the clinic scenes of Ishita, being a paediatrician, I could relate to them. Also like her relationship with her mom and dad, and the way she told her mom gently that she had told the guy the truth. The car scenes were OTT again. Will watch for a while and see how it goes.
Liked Gustakh Dil last night ... Lajjo is smart, figures out instantly that getting her to clean Nikhil's room was a set up, and blasts Shaila aunty, not for getting her into trouble with Nikhil, but for making her throw Nikhil's keepsakes and hurting him in the process. From the precap, it seems she will go hunt in the BMC dustbin and recover his lost treasures.
ReplyDeleteNikhil is a bumbling idiot and a nincompoop, but he's a sweet guy, so one can't feel angry with him. :))) He seems to have given NO thought at all as to long term consequences of his decision, and how to manage both wife and girlfriend long term. He's perfectly happy with the status quo, he's told his wife and girlfriend the truth, so he's not even thinking any further about it. Does he really think that he can continue this way for the rest of his life?!
Ishaana is sweet, she tends to get swayed very easily by Nikhil's mom and Nani, and not enough by her own mother. It was nice to see that she couldn't bring herself to participate in Lajjo's humiliation, and left abruptly. Her mom is one of the sweetest and most sensible moms on TV today ... the way she talks to Ishana is so good ... a mixture of sensible counselling, scolding and loving remonstration.
Nikhil's mom and Nani are both obnoxious.
Also loved the scene in the village with Lajjo's family missing her, her mom is a very good actress, and loved the way the entire family reacts in different ways to Lajjo's absence. Especially her mom, missing her daughter, the bitter-sweet happiness of seeing her happy in her sasuraal and with her husband, but which also means she spends less time in her maayka.
Caught another couple of episodes of Mohabbatein ... will give this one a miss. Too cliched, too OTT ... the premise is good, but Divyanka is too sugary sweet. The kid is cute. Both the moms are OTT and loud.
Looking forward to the new Poonam Dhillon show on Sony, based on English Vinglish.
