TV for the last week of the year
Still watching ...
Ek Boond Ishq ... the screenplay and execution is slipping, but the story has picked up pace, so am still watching. Can't understand why, if the entire Shekhawat khandaan is apparently privy to the story of Radha's mrder, and MJ's arrest for the same, why they are withholding the details of the murder story from Tara ... can understand that RPS and Nirmala know about Aditya's guilt (if he is the guilty one) and don't want to share it with Jairaj ... but the whole story about Radha's murder must be common knowledge as there was a court case which decided on MJ's guilt and convicted him. Why can't they tell Tara? And why can't Tara research old newspapers etc. to find out what is in the realm of common knowledge, rather than these khufiya James Bond tactics?
Is the girl in the small house Radha? And is she blind/handicapped after the murder attempt?
Gustakh Dil ... simple, light hearted, not much angst ... Barkha and Nani are not outright evil, just annoying stupid socialite women ... they actually do have a point about Lajjo being a misfit in Nikhil's society, but since Lajjo is the heroine, that part is irrelevant. Nikhil continues to be blissfully clueless to the feelings of either Ishaana or Lajjo, and even to his own. If they would show Lajjo trying her best to better herself, study, learn English, develop a veneer of sophistication to match Nikhil, while still staying true to her own self, that would make things more interesting ... unfortunately, for most soap makers, Westernisation of an Indian telly heroine still is a big no-no.
Khelti Hai Zindagi Aankh Micholi ... is going off air in Jan. Pity ... it started off well, but degenerated into saas-bahu saga too quickly. It was supposed to be about the struggles of Ami, a fatherless girl, who was attached to her father, and how she copes with his loss ... it became more about Sanjay and Shruti's love story, which was okay ... and then too much about Sanjay's mom not accepting Shruti, along with evil conniving nanad and bhabhi! Too much ho gaya!
Mahabharata .. I like the promos of Krishna and Arjun ... want to watch, but it comes at 8.30 pm, which is EBI time :( Need to record and watch on repeat. Also the new Poonam Dhillon show on Sony is going to be at the same time. 8.30 is suddenly a tough slot - what to watch!
Veera ... the new kids are good, especially Ranvi and Balwant ... Veera is settling into her character. Still not too happy with Gunjan ... she has changed from the simple, sweet girl she used to be. Ratan is a sbitter about Veera as she used to be ... so many years have not changed her attitude. And Veera still hungers for a mother's love.
Ye Hai Mohabbatein ... watchable as of now.
Qabool Hai ... has lightened up with the arrival of Haider and his dressing as Heena ... why do so many cv's go the 'boy dressing as a girl is the height of humour' way? For the most part, it's crass and stupid, unless it's a part of the story, like Vishwajeet in EBI. And most actors make it worse. Mohit was obviously quite uncomfortable in the role ... it shows in his acting - most unconvincing! Poor guy!

Not sure where to post this, but had to after seeing the latest news on TellyChakkar that Gul Khan has roped in Gurmeet Chaudhry AND Barun Sobti to play the leads in her next serial to be aired post IPL 2014 - a case of "laut ke Buddha ghar ko aye"? Hope he shows an improved attitude to work this time around.
ReplyDeleteHa! Ha! That's exactly what came to mind...
DeleteThe TC article seem to have come from the twilight zone. Two actors with BW ambitions, one quit a show and trashed the working hours on television. A PH which is plagued by ML issues, fans who bad mouthed the said producers...all coming back together...what a cocktail this would be...
-Uma
Oops, meant to say "budhu" - damn spellcheck :(
DeleteSo true Uma. Sounds like the PH is going to have an interesting story offscreen, rather than onscreen. Did u see the latest on Karan Singh Grover playing truant? 4 Lions has a huge problem with its male leads & their outsized egos/ambitions.
DeleteHi Aki,
DeleteJust read the TOI article. Not to miss KSG's interview with TC ...he is talking of one year contract, health issues, working for few extra months after contract expired as a favour for PH, having no issues with Gul...all sounds too familiar!!
-U
I am very amused at these shenanigans! Is Gul a sucker for punishment?! Not one, but TWO actors who got swollen headed and walked out of their shows - GC left Punar Vivah and the makers had to wrap the show after he left ... and BS of course left IPK thinking he was the next best thing to hit BW since sliced bread!
DeleteAnd now the KSG story ... now is this the working style of this particular PH which tires out the male actors completely? Two 'tired, sick' male leads who got catapulted to stardom and just 'coincidentally' decided to try their luck in BW after the success of their shows. Read that KSG is already working on a film ... he's even faster than BS, who at least took a honeymoon break before he announced his second film!
Methinks Gul should make female-oriented shows, her female leads seem to be far more dedicated than her male leads. And they have much more stamina ... they are left carrying the burden of the show and do so uncomplainingly ... they don't seem to be afflicted with this tiredness and ill-health, despite working equally long hours, and with far less reward. And since she's apparently a sucker for punishment and is going ahead with both GC and BS, God help her ... this is one show I will follow the forum for sheer amusement ... to watch the GC pankhis battle the BS pankhis will be hilarious!!! Won't bother to follow the show ... if at all, it materialises! If it's a success, which with Gul's track record, it probably will be, then one or the other actor, or maybe both, will start playing truant sooner or later ... or will walk out after a year, saying they signed only for a year.
Can't agree more Aki and Dia. Will Gul ever be able to complete her angry young man story without interruptions!!
DeleteDia, I seriously doubt if Gul is making something with BS and GC, but if it is true, the off screen drama would be greater, evident from the comments of fans under the article itself!!
-Uma
Uma, I think between Geet, IPKKND and QH, Gul has exhausted her stock of 'angry young man, bubbly girl' love stories ... can she do something different now?! There was also news about a 4 lions show on Sony, but I guess if she is getting a show on SP, she will take that over Sony any day. I am SO glad I didn't get attached to Qabool Hai at all. Though I have to say, KSG has come across much better than Barun has ... he made a clearcut statement about his leaving, though again for 'health' reasons (???!!) ... he welcomed his successor and asked his fans to accept him and let the show go on, and he didn't go into hiding and let his producer and costar take all the flak, and accusations of affairs and home breaking and other nonsense. I feel as sorry for Surabhi and the rest of the QH cast and crew as I did for Sanaya and the IPK cast ... if the guy is not loyal to the show and wants to leave, why should the rest lose their livelihood? Guess insane fans are insane fans the world over.
DeleteThough the way Zee and KSG have indulged in a slanging match is very unsavoury. Can't decide which channel is worse ... SP for trying to hang on to BS and shutting the show down at four days notice when he left, or Zee for badmouthing KSG so much. Good thing he gave it back ... don't know if there is any truth in the accusations, I can believe somewhat the coming late part, because he did similar things when DMG happened. He is pretty arrogant and does tend to get carried away by his female fan following.
Started watching Ek Nayi Pehchaan in place of Ek Boond Ishq ... will try to catch EBI on repeats, so far liking ENP. Poonam Dhillon is very graceful and pretty, she was never a very great actress, but her character is sweet and not too demanding, she suits it. So does Krystle, another fairly simple, sweet character, she's supposed to be more bubbly than Jeevika, I think, she seems to be trying hard to be that. A pleasant watch.
ReplyDeleteWatching the first episode, my mom and I both laughed ... the love story here is between saas and bahu, down to the DDLJ catching the hand for the running train bit! It's been done so many times between couples, this was a first for saas bahu!
