TV This Fortnight 1st - 15th October

Am just starting to catch up with TV so will add shows I find interesting.

Ek Boond Ishq - point of interest - Viraf Patel, Vishwajeet Pradhan, who is a fabulous actor, loved to hate him in Maryada ... and what promises to be a 'different' storyline.

Khelti Hai Zindagi Aankh Micholi - Gautami Kapoor, and again an interesting and different storyline.

Mahabharat ... not impressed by any of the actors I have watched so far, but I like the Mahabharat so will probably watch it.

Qabool Hai ... just read a report saying that KSG's contract was for one year, so will he renew it or will he want to quit?
A repeat SN in the making? :)))

Madhubala ... adding because people are still watching it, and finally the story about Madhu becoming a heroine seems to be taking off.

Adding
24 ... watched the first episode on Friday, missed Saturday as I was out ... This one is worth watching, especially for those who have seen the original series. Very classy and slick, and the adaptation to the Indian political context is very clever.

Ek Baar Phir ... out of loyalty to the first show, I refuse to add its name to this one ;) Besides, except for the lead actors trying desperately to ape the original pair and failing (in the case of the girl, quite miserably), there is really nothing similar. Oh I forget ... also the rehashed, re-cycled copies of the iconic Arshi scenes, which also fall quite flat with the new pair. Not to mention the lack of chemistry ... chemistry needs two good actors ... here there is only one.

  1. hi dia, glad to see you back!
i'm watching jee le zara on sony and do dil ek jaan on life ok.
loved the feel of what i saw of ek boond ishq.
they have made perfect casting choices.
i watch bani for the rajjo scenes. that actress has amazing screen presence.
have dropped everything else.. another pretty awesome tale: once upon a time. makes your head whirl, the references they crisscross across the story.

    1. Hi Jaya!
Good to be back :) I'm still in service apartment ... but catching up with TV is easier in India!

I'm hooked to Ek Boond Ishq after one episode ... very impressed with Viraf, the girl is okay, not bad ... Mri's mom is not that great but the rest of the actors, the ones I have seen, are very good.

I'm watching Bani off and on too ... I like Rajjo better than Bani.

KHZAM is okay as of now ... again, after 1-2 episodes. Maybe it will grow on me.

JLZ ... I started watching it when CC was on air, then haven't watched it for a month. My mom was very annoyed about the dowry issue ... she loved Chhanchhan for the way they tackled issues, including how Mansi turned down her rishta, and she was really annoyed that they're showing Saanchi taking a loan to arrange dowry for her sister. If that's what they're showing, it will put me off too ... haven't seen it yet.

Haven't seen much of DDEJ ... the FL is not that great. But Akshay is entering, so I might give it another try.

  2. Did some random TV watching after a long time:

Bani: Has reached the highlight of the show....with the paagal bride committing suicide after her husband refused to acknowledge her...and Bani making it clear that she will not be another of those waiting brides...that was a nice episode to catch, after a long time....but the rest of the story is not interesting enough, esp the guy who just returned.

    EBP:

Shrenu reminds me of DD..If ever, DD takes a break for movies, Shrenu would be the best replacement for her...similar acting capabilities and prettiness quotient.

    Really, not a bad show.
Actually caught the slap episode here...another controversy caught on screen. :D

BV: Jagiya weds Ganga, and Shiv loses his sense of fairness. Is he justified in defending his sister? Not for me, since Anandi had clearly shown her reservations about this alliance many times over.

KHZAM: Going on the right track.

PKD: I am not sure how the show still manages to get good trps..EBP would have been lovely at this timing. I have a feeling EBP will be shifted to Masterchef once it gets over...

MB: Watchable, except for RK throwing and hugging daaru bottles, right after one of the best episodes I have watched in recent times...that was the press conference.

QH: After a beautiful song, and some masala, sense and normalcy returns to the show, and forum...only to make the viewers clutch their hearts at the next impending doom. :D

    4L is really quite heartless...

    Came across a lovely article on Arshad Khan in F 32;

    http://forum32.com/blog/2013/09/15/arshad-khan-action-behind-the-director/

I have been missing him in QH...turns out he had a brief stint with EBP, and has moved on to SC...(WOW! Need to check what is happening there!)..will hopefully be back later on in QH.

    Hi, J!

    Great seeing U after long...

    For IPK fans:

Do check out Director's Cut....they were analysing the show from start, since the reruns began(Ofc, not as active as IPK times)...caught the first few epis...loved the first epi of IPK...which must have been like the best first epi I have watched till date. Funny that I got to watch it months after the show ended. (I cried, watching that.)

    1. hello Su, yes, its sure been a long time!
how are you? sab khairiyat? what other shows are you watching now?

    2. Su,

Rather than Shrenu, whom I still find very limited as an actress, I feel Chhavi from EBI is more similar to DD ... same round pretty face and decent acting. Shrenu is okay, her character has no layers, and she doesn't add any herself. Tara is also chirpy and bubbly, but has that underlying strength of being the one supporting her family, which I like.
And Viraf is definitely far superior to Avinash in his angry young man role ... plus he's much better looking. He looks way classier as a scion of a rich highly placed family than Avinash look as a business tycoon ... Avinash is decent, but he somehow doesn't exude the class that either Viraf or Barun do/did.
For a love-hate love story I recommend EBI over EBP any day. Although there are a lot of gaps in the story so far ... am hoping they will fill them up as they go along. It's produced by BBC entertainment, the quality of production is very good, and Chhavi's and the bhabhi's clothes are fabulous. The bhabhi is one of Naitik's sisters from TRKKH ... has she left that show?

BV - I don't pay any attention to the Shiv-Anandi scenes at all, find them boring. I try to follow the Jagya-Ganga track, although I don't like Sanchi, but that's her character. Have to admire the BV writers ... I was wondering how they would progress the show after Anandi's happy second marriage ... and they brought in Jagya's love life and actually made it interesting.

Anyone watching Gustakh Dil? I liked the leads in that one ... both are very well fitted for their roles, the girl is very good. Am trying to catch up with the story.

Lost interest in QH and I can't watch MB now, EBI comes at the same time :)

Director's Cut ... are they still analysing IPK? They had some very good writers ... I used to enjoy reading that post. After almost a year I can now sit and watch some IPK episodes without feeling the pang of a great show going down the drain.

jack is doing really well, 7 months old and is the happiest baby I have ever seen. Still has a,few problems but all is well.

I havn't really been keeping up with much television, seeing the odd episodes. I don't get Colours so will probably miss Sanaya again in her new show but if it worth watching I will try and catch on line.

I will pop in when I can, take care all

  5. Saw 24 ... recommended viewing for all who like thrillers. Very much a lift from the original, understandable as Anil Kapoor bought the rights ... but with smart adaptation to the Indian context, very slick production and good acting all around. Very enjoyable.

  6. Ek Boond Ishq ... story so far, if anyone has more details please fill me in, as I'm trying to catch up.

Mrityunjay is Jayraj's adopted son. MJ is in jail, probably under death sentence? for rape and murder. For some unexplained reason, Jayraj wants MJ to get married urgently, so he chooses Tara.
Tara lives with her mother Aradhana, elder sister Nandini and brother ... she runs a small stall which supports the family. She loses the stall in a scuffle and the family is in danger of being thrown out of their house. Jayraj brings the proposal for Nandini, but Aradhana is suspicious as to why such a rich khandaani man would want her daugher, so she refuses it.
Tara accepts the proposal from Jayraj without telling her mother, to save the family from being thrown out.

Jayraj engineers the wedding so that none of Tara's family is present and the wedding takes place in jail where Tara learns for the first time that her husband is a convict ... she first refuses to go through with the wedding, then Jayraj reminds her of her family's problems, and she agrees. Wedding over, they leave MJ in jail and Tara moves to her new home. In the meantime Jayraj jas shifted Tara's family to a brand new home and presumable is taking care of their finances.
All through this, Tara and MJ don't see each others' face.

In the middle of all this, Tara runs foul of an eunuch, Kalavati, who seems to be all-powerful among her eunuch family. Kalavati is displeased and wants to get Tara killed. Kalavati happens to be Jayraj's older brother, but the entire family seems to be clueless of his reality ... don't know whether he is a cross-dresser or really a eunuch. His family thinks he is a sworn brahmachari. He doesn't like MJ for some reason yet to be disclosed ... mystery around this part.

Jayraj's wife, Nirmala and daughter, Vasu are not thrilled with the wedding, neither is Jayraj's younger?/older? son Aditya. Aditya is married to a sweet girl who is the only person who welcomes Tara ... Aditya is a playboy who had a fling with Nandini and then discarded her ... Nandini is already upset that her mother turned down the rishta with MJ and she lost her chance to marry a rich man, and is determined to find Aditya and not let him slip out of her grasp.

Shwethuuuuu ... Aditya is your favorite Dishank!!! Again a younger son ... this time, not very nice or sweet, he's a playboy with definite grey shades.

MJ is released on parole and comes home. He is broody and silent, and doesn't talk much to anyone except his father, but is polite to everyone else, though uncommunicative. He stays mostly in his dark room where he keeps developing some pictures. His run-ins with Tara are unpleasant for Tara as she is a bit of a klutz, and keeps getting into trouble with him.
I miss Khushi ... Sanaya is the only actress who could make klutzy seem loveable and not just bumbling and silly. Apart from that, Chhavi is decent as Tara. Tara's habit of talking to herself in third person is irritating.

    1. i like tara being chirpy with herself.. adds dimension to her character.

    2. I don't like the third person way of talking ... someone recommended the show Remix to me, and in Remix, Tia did the same ... it put me off the show completely. I don't like it here either, it sounds a bit retarded. She only does it sometimes, not all the time, so I hope she will stop doing it soon.

response to the song from Ramleela you posted on the Sept thread ...we're talking about different songs, and I still haven't seen that one ...

  11. EBP is picking up not on the romance front which is kind of mehhhh....at the moment. Avinash has to hit the gym ASAP, his onscreen dad looks fitter than him at the moment and they are taking this Shlok dark character thingy bit too far....the problem is with ASR we always had moments of regret, we were privy to his thoughts via monologues or fbs....here there is not much.........so it is very hard to even like the guy or have some sympathy or look forward to him falling for her.

Shrenu has picked up a lot from what she was initially, so that is good.

Even if they had not termed it as IPK 2.0, I think I would have checked it out for Avinash's sake and would have rolled my eyes or maybe chuckled at the blatant lifting of scenes from IPK...But now I am yet to see a single scene where EBP stands on its own merit in terms of romance or even matches IPK.

Having said that, what intrigues me and interests me about the show is the family dynamics. That has an interesting storyline in the offing.

Strange isn't it that in a love story, the thing I am actually look forward is when Shlok finds out about how manipulative about his dad and how wrong he was about his mom.

I am watching West Wing, Scandal, Castle at the moment and ofcourse Numm.
