Shows I'm watching

Watching the two new Sony shows, keeping up with Tamanna off and on, and tried Dehleez.

Kuch Rang Pyaar Ke ... shaping up quite well, a mix of characters. The mother is very grey, she plays on Dev's guilt, and wants him tied to her pallu all the time, her insurance against her dark past, which seems to hide more than just poverty-ridden days. The son is obsessed with their past, and with trying to make it up to her. The eldest sister Neha is bitter and angry, that she too sacrificed her childhood, her education, but her sacrifices are never appreciated. The younger two sisters are more balanced and normal ... but the three older members of the family are still struggling to come to terms with their past.
On the girl's side, the family is more normal, a typical warm Bengali family, with a lazy obese son, who can never manage to hold down a job for long, his nutritionist sister, who is very dedicated to her work and her patients, a warm loving mother (I like the actress!), and an indulgent father. All three acknowledge that the house runs on Sona's earnings.

Ek Duje Ke Vaaste ... the guy is a looker!!! One of the most good looking guys I've seen on Indian telly, and very tall with it!!! Not a great actor, though ... he is new, and in his first show as lead ... needs much more improvement. The girl is still overacting a lot in the chirpy scenes, and her dialogue delivery needs work. But worth watching for the guy ... hope he improves. And the storyline is good as of now ... his back story, as to why he wanted revenge, has emerged ... now we wait for her side. But it's good to see a well groomed, good looking guy on TV. :)
Girl seems to be aping Khushi ... not successfully. Both leads need to emote much better.

Tamanna ... Mihir's true colors are emerging slowly and steadily. Sudhanshu Pandey has entered. Not watched regularly last week ... need to catch up.

Dehleez ... I thought Harshad Arora was a decent actor ... now I realise he was good as compared to plastic Pree! With better actors, he is strictly adequate only. The girl is not bad. The guy's mother is doing a decent job ... she is less loud here than in the last show I watched her in. The rest of the characters are farily stereotyped. May not keep up with this show for too long.

Planning to watch Kapoor and Sons this weekend ... have been hearing very good reviews.

  1. Supriya P is very grey here ... quite a change from her normal sweet roles. I like the sister Neha ... I hope they have a track of her going in for adult education and making her own path in life.

The FL Erica is very bland ... her eyes have no expression. Shaheer has improved a lot from Navya and Mahabharat.

  2. Ek Duje ... Sumo was a brat back in her school days, and the way she laughed off Shravan's obvious and very major distress just because she couldn't afford to lose face among her friends, was cruel. But girls are cruel, and teenage girls even more so. Very insensitive ... not surprising that Shravan is carrying the memory of that in his heart for so many years ... not surprising that he feels let down and betrayed by her, whom he considered to be his best friend.

But what Shravan did at the party wasn't much better ... for Suman there is an excuse, even though it's a weak one ... bachpana. For Shravan, such a cold calculated revenge from a successful, supposedly mature intelligent lawyer, there is none.

Both were wrong in their places ... she was wrong back then ... he is very wrong today.

I really hope Suman backs off completely from Shravan, and takes a good long time to even get close to trusting him again.

  3. Ek Duje Friday episode - Namik is improving in his emoting.

Friday Holi - Suman gives Shravan her mom's jewelry as payback for his 3 lakhs ... He immediately flashbacks to the time when young Shravan saw the otherwise tough bully of the school, Sumo, shaken, pensive, show her vulnerable interior under the tough exterior she always wore, when she cradled her mother's jewelry box. The young Shravan didn't quite know at that time, at that age, how to show sympathy, besides Sumo never wanted sympathy from anyone, she was the toughie. So he just smiled and made some inane comment, and surprisingly Sumo didn't bite his head off as usual, she just smiled softly and continued to hold the box.
And now the adult Suman just handed him that jewelry to repay his 3 lakhs. Shravan is probably the only one who knows how much that jewelry means to her, apart from her Nanu ... yet she handed it over to him to repay his money. And then rushed off with Pushkar, to play Holi with everyone, as though without a care in the world. But Shravan knows ... he knows how much she must be hurting to lose that jewelry ... he knows that smiling laughing exterior is just a cover, a shield. And his eyes ask her ... itna paraya kar diya mujhe? Am I such a stranger that you need to part with your mother's jewelry to repay my money immediately?
Yes, he's hurt ... hurt that she's pushing him away. But he started this cycle this time around ... when he set her up to humiliate her at the party. Sumo ... slow to trust, lonely, vulnerable ... he hurt her once, and she's going to find it very difficult to ever trust him again.

  6. Hi Deepa, are you new here? Welcome!

Honestly, I see absolutely NO chemistry between the leads as of now. They both need to improve a lot in terms of acting and emoting. Currently they're both just reciting their dialogues. The girl is slightly better in the angry scenes, though she still tends to overact ... the guy needs to bring in much more expression in his eyes and his dialogue delivery, though I can see some improvement already over the past two weeks. But the couple of close scenes they have had, including the Holi one on Friday ... the chemistry is just not there.

I remember during MJHT, the storyline was similar, in the sense it was love developing between two best friends ... although the first few months of the show had only friendship, but the way Sanaya emoted (Gunjan fell in love first), one could see the potential from the start. Mohit was a bad actor back then, but even he was decent in their close scenes from the beginning, maybe because Sanaya was good, he could feed off her acting. Here the guy is very raw, and he doesn't have much to work with in terms of the actress.

Let's see how it goes. Currently I'm watching because the story is keeping me engaged, the girl's character so far is good (always important for me!) and the guy is very tall and good looking :)

  7. MJHT I have not watched. My reference pair is Sanaya with Barun and Ashish. Both pairs had flying chemistry. This new bee pair is yet to work a lot to impress. But so far story is going good, if actors make it good, this can go long way.

Engagement took unexpected turn. What say?
