This time the theme is Bollywood reloaded, and the contestants have to pay tribute to a BW superstar. Which is more difficult than it sounds, because they have to incorporate the qualities of the superstar while still trying to make their performance unique.
Initially we thought Sanaya had gotten Kajol ... I was happy, because I love Kajol. But turns out she has gotten Kangana ... which is a good choice by the judges, as she has the same type of pixie features and slim body type as Kangana does.
And what was left, was provided by the makeup and clothes .. Cherag Bamboat always does a great job with Sanaya's makeup, but this time he has excelled himself.

Sanaya gets the most awards ... the group seems to be having so much fun together!
HI Dia, hope you have settled in to your new accommodation. Have you any links to Sanaya's full performance on weeks 4 & 5? Have been surfing the net in search of them, but have had no luck so far.
ReplyDeleteHey Aki, try the first page of the Sanaya AT on India forums Jhalak forum, scroll down, that has links uploaded of only Sanaya parts in the episode, including her performances. I think that is open to al, not only members.
DeleteHaven't moved yet ... I move this coming week, so won't be around much online. Hopefully after next week I will be back more regularly.
Episode comments - for the first time, got a good quality link!
ReplyDeleteRadhika - danced to Sonakshi Sinha's Go Go Go Govinda ...have not been impressed with Radhika very much at all, and this time was no different. For one, the song she chose - wrong choice, it's a Prabhudeva song, and the choreography is damn difficult ... she did it no justice at all. Very low energy levels, and the transitions between beats and steps was poor. The choreography was also not good ... again difficult to match up to the original.
She got 35 ... I think the performance was a 33-34.
Shamita - danced to Helen's song Piya Tu Ab To Aaja. Again a very difficult song to dance to, because the original choreography and dance is so fabulous. Also the song and dance is so well known, I've seen it so often that I can recognise the slightest drop in performance. They did a smart thing, they did change the choreography somewhat, but kept quite a few of the original parts. Shamita did a very good job ... maybe because I know the song so well, I feel she did not deserve a 40. 38-39 ... 38 for her performance, because she was very good, but the original is superlative ... and an extra mark because the original is so well known, living up to it is a heck of a difficult job.
Lauren is an amazing dancer ... the little steps she did at the end with the rest were way better than even Shamita.
Mohit ... had high expectations, but he was messy all through. Decent ... he got 37 ... my score for him is 35-36.
Raftaar ... I had very low expectations because I feel he has been over-scored on most occasions ... but I loved the act. Very difficult to perform in the middle of swirling red color ... that increased the difficulty level of the act straight away. I thought they both did a great job ... contrast with VD last week, who was stiff and just lifted his choreographer, Raftaar was very involved in his performance, his expressions, his flow, his movements were all graceful and flowing.
Today he deserved his 40.
Faisal ... I love the kid ... but too many flips and acrobatics, too little dance. Coordination was an issue. 32 was harsh though - 33-34 would have been good. The last flip off the stage was very impactful ... nice!
Lauren is a fab dancer ... her two dances on Kajra re and Udi were just amazing!!!
The tiny segment of Sanaya's act has me all geared up for her dance tomorrow.
Also ... Shubhreet, Irffan and Scarlett in the bottom three ... seems the audience is better than the judges at figuring out the good dancers.
DeleteIrffan was just average last week, he got grace marks from judges because it was his first performance ...
Shubhreet is doing the same thing again and again, and getting sympathy marks from the judges ...
Scarlett was not good in the Indian dance styles ... she got laddoos from the judges, but viewers know Indian dance and they won't let her get away with it. She is not anywhere as good as Lauren, who did win votes based on her amazing performances.
Thanks for the link DIa. ALso watched Lauren's performance - wow! She is such a fantastic, graceful performer!!!!
ReplyDeleteThe judges, I find, are too generous with their scores - which is part of the reason why I stopped watching JDJ with any regularity. My Mother made another fitting comment - she said why do they indulge so much in acrobatics during a dance show? Only reason I am back to watch (selectively) is for Sanaya.
Look forward to having you back with regular updates on your blogspot.
