I am here Ek Baar Phir*wink*
ReplyDeleteSooooooo I am wondering, if there is a season 3, what will it be called? vote for your favorite:
Do Baar Phir
Ek Baar Phir
Ek Baar Baar Phir
Ek Baar Phir Phir
any of your own suggestions?
What am I watching currently on TV:
Comedy nights with Kapil. Awesome show with loads of rofl moments.
Okay on Ek Baar Phir, few thoughts:
Avinash is actually one of the few good actors around. I have pretty much tracked his career, if I remember correctly from Kis desh main hai mera dil where he had a dual role of an autisitic person and his evil twin.
Then he became a hero with the Choti Bahu 1 & 2. Both shows never caught my full interest but did watch Choti Bahu 1 for few weeks and then sort of lost interest.
Ek Baar Phir in its own merit is decent, nothing spectacular and if the lead actor aka Avinash is allowed to explore the character in his own way rather than asking him to copy his predecessor, it would be better.
The actress lacks the spunk (mind you all this is based on one epi - but i got hooked onto IPK with 1 scene, so guess it is okay, he he)
By naming it IPK 2, well it is a high risk gamble on SP's part, let us see if it pays off.
To SP's credit, it did grab eyeballs, 50% of the old IPK audience would not have bothered to check out the show if it was Aastha, max would have made some fun of it for trying to copy it and eventually ignored it if it did not manage to hold their interst not the COmparison with a vengeance that is happening.
SP will not care, as far it is concerned, you watch it if you like it or watch it if you hate it just for comparison, either way it will pull in the numbers for them.
I did catch Scandal,an Americal show, it is really good, if you like stories with political backdrop, so I am looking forward to season 3 which will air maybe this or next month.
Thoroughly enjoyed whatever I could watch of Big Bang Theory and the Star world's airing of it latest season of How I met my mother.
Philhaal itna hi bak bak from my side, phir milengay, Ek Baar Phir
* I promise I will not crack stupid Ek Baar Phir Jokes or atleast try my level best not to*wink*
Hope everyone is doing greattttttttt*Hugs*
Oyeee, Shwethu, good to see you back!!! Where have you been?! Missing your bak bak!
DeleteI've watched a few episodes of Comedy Nights with Kapil too ... it comes just after Indian Idol which I was watching quite regularly ... it's good. Kapil has a good sense of humor and the show is a fun watch.
Haven't seen EBP at all ... it started when my house - and tv! - was already packed, and since then I've been on the move and not had access to any Indian tv at all. Just got reports from others ... opinions very biased for sure, but everyone agrees that it doesn't stand up to the original IPK at all.
I feel that Avinash might pull it off ... judging by reports, he is a decent actor, and if he has done diverse roles like autistic guy and evil guy, and a regular nice guy type of hero, he has the range to pull it off. Also, he was chosen by 4 Lions to be opposite Sanaya for their new show which never materialised, and 4 Lions is good in casting, so banda theek hi hoga.
It's the girl I have doubts about ... audiences loved Khushi for her spunk and chirpiness as well as the way Sanaya pulled off the emotional scenes ... she had a much wider range of emotions in IPK than Arnav, and was better in the acting department many times, esp with the sheer range she had to portray. So far, opinions are very negative on this new girl. I doubt she will be able to pull it off, unless the role is more traditionally 'heroine' and good SP bahu type ... in other words, not requiring much acting ... in which case, she just might.
The couple of weeks I spent in India in end July and beg August got me more interested in Star World, they're airing some good shows, so when I get back home, I want to tune in to those. Already started watching Grey's Anatomy, want to continue that one. And Big Bang theory ... I want to watch that too, have seen some episodes and it's totally enjoyable!
Try a show I caught on Hulu ... Little Mosque on the prairie. Totally hilarious and fun show ... very good!
Also waiting for S4 of Downton Abbey ... not sure if its available yet on Amazon. Baaki Indian shows I am totally out of touch with at the moment. When I get back to Mumbai, will catch up with a vengeance ... I will have all the channels!
Dia,
DeleteThe second season of IPK is really good. I chanced upon it only recently and spent the weekend catching up on the earlier episodes. The show has a strong script and the cast is good. Agree that the heroine is the weak link and is quite limited in her expressions but she is slowly improving. Avi is really good with his intense look and crisp dialogue delivery. The story looks quite different from season 1 and so is the characterisations of the leads.
Apart from the fact that there is an angry, ruthless and vengeful hero and a righteous heroine, nothing else seems the same. Oh yes, there is a creepy bro-in-law for the hero but he is nothing like Shyam as of now. The hero has an elder bro too while the heroine is an only child. The hero's father whom he absolutely worships seems to be an intriguing character, much deeper than he appears to be. The hero hates his mom - reason not known as yet. Did I say that the hero is a huge MCP?
What works for the show is the decent cast, a good story (as of now), good D.O.P and good direction. What does not work for it is its weird timing (at 6.00 p.m). Maybe it is star tv's way of getting back at the fans for making it shut the earlier show. Frankly I feel this show should be in the 8.00 slot instead of that stupid show Meri Bhabi.
Madhubala is finally heading towards the original theme - Madhu becoming an actress. RK's downfall has started with his arrogance catching up on him. he has been banned by the producers' association for his temperamental and violent behaviour. The guy is now getting ready to produce and star in his own film but faces quite a few hurdles in the process because no one wants to violate the ban and work with him. The show looks interesting now. Guess the competition awaiting them next week in the form of Mahabharat and Kaun banega have finally woken up the PH/channel to the harsh realities of T.V. world.
NBT is in its final leg. While Kunal is brilliant as usual, showing his versatility playing Vasu and Mohan with equal ease, the script which is the strength of the show did not look very convincing. Addu's redemption was quick and unbelievable.
Veera has lost its sheen ever since Wasim left the show. I read that Wasim is now on board IPK2. His touch is already seen. Barry Dhillon who was the dialogue writer for Geet is also in the show. Maybe that is why it looks good.
Opti,
DeleteGood to see you back! :)))
If Waseem is directing IPK2, then I think the show will be heavy on family drama, and strong on unfolding tracks slowly and surely ... that is the hallmark of the guy, from the two shows of his that I have watched, Veera and Maryada. He is not strong on romance, not the 'hot, intense, passionate' type ... the Adi-Priya romance was the weakest and least interesting track of Maryada. But the other emotions will be dealt with well and very realistically. I will give the show a try when I get back home. But am not looking for a love story here, for me the girl has to be the biggest draw in a love story, and so far, no one has come close to Sanaya, the only other one I like currently is Sriti in BV. Haven't watched that very regularly though ... once/twice a week at most.
Barry Dhillon is also the writer of MJHT, he is good as well.
I want to watch Mahabharat for sure ... the promos are looking good, and it is a limited episode series, which means they would have planned out all the episodes from the start. Also, there can be no surprises as to the story, nor any question of changing tracks to appease viewer sentiments :))) I also will watch KBC ... haven't had Sony for years, and quiz shows were always a favourite of mine. So I have my viewing line up ready when I get back.
Am not sure about Madhubala ... will see how it goes.
Dia: Star World has a very good lne up shows and there are other english channels too which have a decent lineup. Right now Desi Tv is not offering something exciting soapwise at the moment. Looking forward to 24, see how it compares to the original.
DeleteOpti: Hey hugs!! I saw Thursday's epi I think one where he interviewed her. That episode had its moments some pretty good some face palm, the whole interview and the interviewers aiyyooo..
I did like one dialogue of his, Tumhain job mili nahin hai, di gayee hai...So given time, this show can be decent. If only they let avinash be, I actually thought he nailed it in the car parking promo, the first look of the show, here they are doing a disservice to the actor, character and audience by not allowing him to interpret that character on his home instead asking him to be the grouchy ASR.
If you can can give the whole background of the proposal that got rejected?
Allright, I am here with one more show's recommendation, 4 episodes have been aired so far and it is really good. Fawad Khan's Numm:
ReplyDeleteRather than my giving you a glimpse of the story, I am giving you 4 links each of which have an analysis of the episode as well as link to the episode.
All I can say is the show is intriguing, acting and production values including direction, photography is top class. Do check it out if you are interested:

aiyo, itna sannata kyon hai bhai?
ReplyDeleteWatched EBP Today -show seems to be picking up, don't like the furrowed eyebrow look even though it seems to be coming down, arrey the guy is good on his own merit, just let him be.
Anyway aastha girl did well today, she is trying her best but aur hard work karey ka padi.
Liked the scene where shlok is handing over the papers and talking while his eyes are completely fixed on aastha, waiting to see how she reacts.
waisay shlok bhai ko itna guss kyon aata hai, hai koi jawab?
blooper - She supposedly goes to hand over some file and does not give the file to him, hayeeeeee, apnay tv walon ka business or deal ki logic yeh hi jaanay...
I still haven't figured out the whole family complexity thing, but chalo like the balance between the scenes and they actually have a slimy ghar jamaai, wah wah!!
waisay they should get Raju singh for the background score, that will do wonders, I hate the AAAAAAAAAAA type bg scores, grr...
speaking of music, am in love with the OST of Numm
do listen to it:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ObzP2q-0G-s
Oh forgot to add, did they just try to pull off the bandagement scene in EBP, array itni bhi kya jaldi hai bhai, apna kuch original socho, ya thoda wait karo, hmmmm...
ReplyDeleteHi ladies,
ReplyDeleteHow are you all doing? Seems to be a pretty shant blog for now - time to heat things up :)
Felt like i was meeting friends after a long time when i read the blog - Dia's updates and Opti / Shwetha's comments _ hence am writing on this post and not the newest one.
Been busy in AD with all facets of life going into topsy turvy mode so found little time to catch up.
Caught a glimpse of QH day before yesterday - fell off the bed laughing and could not help myself from writing to you all (in my head we were already having a conversation through out the few minutes i watched the show :D)
Had so wanted Gul not to make a show on stereotyped "Muslim" issues but she is no better than the makers of ridiculous movies like Nikah of the 80's!! what utter trash - getting married without knowing it - this has to take the cake - stupid beyond belief
i hear that MB has improved - stopped watching a long time ago but have to say the DD chick is pretty and wow what a figure! (all that dance must have helped too) - glad she won - the other lady was a professional dancer so the competition was not fair at all.
until next time :D
Mona
yayyyyyyyyy, blog is buzzing again...ek baar phir
ReplyDelete*Hugs mona*
Mona: as for QH, Symbolism at its best from Gul - People rarely know what they are getting into when they are getting married, so closest you have here is getting married without knowing (what you are in for, whom you are really marrying).....
Watched EBP yesterday, Good epi, am liking the show, title track is good so we have instead of Rabba vey, Saiyyain vey, quite catchy...
We had the rain scene getting enacted on friday, it was good ignoring the frame to frame enactment of the moment though run up to the moment was something entirely different, the actors pulled it off well.
Avi is coming on his own here and that is a relief to see, he is one of the genuinely good actors around, so kinda rooting for him to ace this one.
Shrenu did well too yesterday. Also the sizzling romance of IPK 1, I doubt will get created but these two seem to have developed decent chemistry for a love story. If only the change the timings, SP will have a winner at 8 again.
As for MB not watching it, but yup agree, all that dancing has ensured DD looks stunning nowadays.
Shweta,
DeleteI did not like Friday episode of EBP much. It was ridiculous that Aastha did not use the big umbrella with a long handle to tackle the rickshaw walla. If they had to show the hero saving her, they could have still done that after the girl did something substantive besides screaming for help and running away. Using her knees to hurt the creep's private parts and bashing him up with her umbrella are a couple of things she should have at least tried to do. Given the sensitivity of this issue, I did not like the stereo type handling of it.
The chemistry in the rain scene was good and they did not overdo it. With Wasim at the helm of things, I hope they keep the story telling as realistic as possible. He gets the best out of his actors.
Good to see you Mona. yes, DD does look stunning. My hubby is fida over her. QH is ridiculous to say the least. Shame that a muslim woman is making a mockery of her religion and her gender in this show. Zoya has been turned into a commodity. Wish she gives Azad a hard time accepting him back.
The show has shown all society's evils like dowry, infidelity, unmindful religious orthodoxy etc thriving quite successfully. It is high time each of these evils is shown to get upturned.
opti, I actually wanted her to tackle the guy one her own, beat him up with the umbrella, kick him where it hurt or use the pepperspray anything, just to show she tackled him, they could have used that scene to use a more positive msg or how to handle or something*missed chance, sigh*
DeleteI am totally ignoring the bloopers here, how did he find her, i dont know why he called her from a public booth and him randomly tapkofying and not even bothering to note the auto number to file a complaint and letting the guy scottfree bugged me way too much.
Guess I am looking at the positives and ignoring the bloopers, logic etc..and after rain they are going to recreate the seatbelt thingy. Dunno when I will watch the next episode, it hasnt hooked me yet unlike Numm where I am actually hooked and looking forward to the next episode:)
Btw, there is a good show named Ek Mutti ki Asman on Zee showing the aspirations of a housemaid for her baby daughter. Shilpa Shirodkar is doing a fab job in it.
ReplyDeleteMy parents are watching it and they like it a lot, will try and catch it sometime.
DeleteHi Ladies,
ReplyDeleteNice 2 C U all back here...Missed U ...
Shwetha,
Agree with U on IPK 2....looked like a decent show, if taken as fresh take. The timing sucks..I caught the second or third episode...did not find the family moments interesting...Otherwise OK.
MOna,
Missed U... seeing U after a long time.
Opti,
Missed U 2.
Wondered if U remembered me when Mohan's raaz was revealed. *wink*.
Dia,
Hope U have settled in...I looked in some time back, and there was no movement here...thought U must be busy.
Not been able to catch up with much other than QH...
From bits of what I watched...
MB: Finally they brought in the original story..and it looks interesting..DD looks good, but her acting which had improved during JDJ, seems to be slipping back again..I feel, if they just changed the director, the show really would be something else.
Jodha Akbar: Continues to hold my interest whenever I get to watch it.
Ek Mutthhi Aaasman: Liked whatever I saw of it.
Khelti hai Zindagi aankh micholi: This is a show that looks nice. Check it out Dia- you might find it interesting. It is about a widow managing her family, the story being told from the daughter's POV...love both the kids.
QH: Ab main bolungi toh bologe bolti hoon...:D
Gul can be pretty testing with her twists and turns that make no sense...but I love the portrayal of the aftermath.
If any one is interested in the legitimacy of what has been going on, I am posting a tumblr article below...
'The Maburt marriage as it currently stands is not real or valid in any shape or form, regardless of practice or community, in the same way Ayaan's and Humeira's marriage certificate wasn't legal back in May/June.
DeleteThis is in keeping with the TOI article, which said that Ayaan and Zoya would be mistaken for a married couple, which they are by the Qazi because he believes that he has married them, and those photographers have taken photos as evidence', and therefore being mistaken for a married couple is not the same as being an actual married couple.
If they legitimise this with what is currently shown to be a marriage' then the grounds for dissolution are set because in this case they were never married so there is no divorce.
DeleteFirst and foremost, the practice of Islamic marriages requires the following, without question: a) a Qazi (which is not to be confused with a Maulvi, as not all Maulvis are Qazi; Maulvis are theological teachers whereas Qazis are ministers that can officiate a marriage, and they need to be licensed for it); b) a Wali, who does not have the father of the bride but rather a legal guardian, male or female and in this case they were most definitely absent); c) informed and willing consent on both the groom's and bride's part; d) the three consents (it does not have to be qubool hai' however, consent' has to be repeated three times); e) the bride and groom were disoriented and confused at the time of the ceremony, and a nikah requires the bride and groom to be in fully aware of their situation and in absolute control of their faculties; f) two witnesses independent of bride and groom; g) the bride's name is incorrect.
Based on the above, only one criteria was met and in the absence of the rest, this is not a marriage. Not even an accidental one. Zoya's incorrect name , and the absence of the Walis and two independent witnesses are massive issues here and any one of those can lead to the dissolution because it renders the marriage invalid, and that too without question.
Community marriages are actually fairly common practice because it's organised for people who cannot afford the expense of weddings. More importantly, this marriage took place at the Taj-ul-Masajid, which as far as I know is also a madarasah (hence the banner they used at the mosque). Now madarasahs are educational institutes that also sometimes double as orphanages and provide education for orphans. Assuming the couples were orphans and/or poor, then this situation is legitimate, where the teachers of the madarasah can act as Walis for the brides and can provide the much needed two witnesses. However, in the case of Ayaan and Zoya, there was no Wali for Zoya because she has at least three, two in the form of her adoptive parents who did not consent to this and her actual father, who wouldn't have consented to this either even if he knew that Zoya was his child. Any one of them can actually render this invalid.
I think the whole point of this Confusion and Chaos is to actually make sure that everyone from the audience to those involved realise this is invalid (for whenever the truth comes to light) and far more importantly it harks back to the archaic practice of divorces in Islam, where stating I divorce you' once in the presence of a witness was considered sufficient to qualify as an actual divorce.
DeleteAlso, I wouldn't take Surbhi's or Karan's words on Islamic practices. They know their storyline, yes, but they have zero knowledge of Muslim practices and if they consider this an actual marriage than I suspect their social circle is rather homogeneous. They also had no clue what a valimah' was, which actually happens after the nikaah and not before (and the way the bride and groom were brought in, isn't actually a blooper because different communities have different practice for valimahs, and some take place right after the nikaah, which can be a simple fare, and that means the bride and groom have to be brought in separately because the rukhasati' ceremony has yet to be performed).
Finally, as per precedence, in IPKKND, the PH was clear that Arnav's- and- Khushi's marriage wasn't a real marriage but rather a contract marriage that later had to be legitimised. Even though Arnav believed they were married as did Khushi initially, she later felt that they weren't properly married, and it was categorically stated by the grandmothers, mothers, aunts, and sisters that in the absence of rituals and ceremonies, it would not be considered a real marriage and we are hopefully seeing something similar here.
Now, to explain temporary marriages in Islam, which I have discussed at length before and I will later link that post here but for now here's a quick rundown. There are two types of temporary marriages, Nikah al-Mut'ah and Nikah al-Misyar. The former is a Shia practice and the latter is Sunni. Both are frowned upon but are allowed under certain circumstances and the Sunni one is far more problematic, because both parties give up the typical rights to married life, including living under the same roof etc. In all honesty, I will be surprised if they go down this route on the show.'
Credit: MKI, tumblr
P.S: Maburt- Mona and Rabert, as Zoya and Ayan call each other as partners in crime.
I feel the truth will come out later...As of now, Zoya seems to be in a blasting mood, as Mr. Khan has treated like a commodity, taking advantage of her feelings for him.
Su,
DeletePrecisely it is for the reason you mentioned that I hate the show. If what transpired between Zoya and Ayaan wasn't a marriage in any respect why is everybody bent on honoring a non-existent marriage? Why are they shown to buckle under the pressure of a Maulvi or a qazi, whoever he is, a greedy money minded woman who would stoop to any extent to get her way, a spineless girl who has no self worth who attempts suicide and a shameless step mother who has done nothing for anyone but is now emotionally balckmailing a man to give up his love to her son so that her spineless daughter can get married into a greedy house?
Who is Azad to give away Zoya? If he wants he can refrain from getting married till this mess is sorted out but he has no business treating her as a commodity and she should just leave both the worthless brothers and go back to the States.
What is the objective of the show? To show such ridiculous and unbelievable things happen in Islam? What is worse is people saying that Asya are the end game so this is just a temporary hurdle. How can a woman accept a man after he just handed her over to his brother to be his wife, without her consent? What is the guarantee that he will not ditch her again at the next tight corner he faces?
And what is poor Humeira's fault in all this? Why should she watch this tamasha because her lover's sister is spineless?
Shame or Azad. Shame on Aaayan. More importantly shame on Gul for such a ridiculous contrived and unbelievable story line which shows Islam and women in poor light.
O I forgot. This woman loves to make a mockery of marriage in her shows be it the fake marriage in Geet or the 'contract' marriage (which by the way does not exist in any religion or country) or this non-existent marriage. Not to mention her penchant for incestuous relationships (real and imagined).
Su: *Hugs* That was a great read and quite frankly am kinda relieved that am not watching the mess that QH has become. Watced it for couple of weeks, but lost interest, AD kept me pretty busy.
ReplyDeleteIf Zoya Ayaan was a track that was intended initially, execution has been pretty poor in that regard. It looks like they have half heartedly bowed to fan pressure and yet stubbornly continued with what was intended in the first place. Frankly the first Ayaan was a disaster, if they had this particular track in mind, they should have gone for a better actor maybe the current one from the start. Anway, it is disappointing how 4 lions seem to lose steam after initial few months and it becomes a disaster, it is now 3 shows in a row...
Here in QH, no channel is shutting down, trps are very good, there are no offscreen hungamas....atleast that I know of, so the onus is on Gul and her team to deliver now*sigh*
After I have read about QH, I am seeing IPK2 in a much more positive light - even if the chemistry of the lead pair is nowhere close to original, it is there - good enough for a love story and they have lot of interesting sub plots and characters to keep the audience wanting to catch the show. I am guessing SP might shift the show to 8 pm, once it gets enough feedback that the show is well settled maybe when shlok astha marriage happens, who knows?
Just caught Castle season 6 premiere, after having given the last one or is it 2seasons a miss, am glad to be watching the show again. The season premiere was damn good, now waiting for Scandal season 3 to start airing...TV suddenly is looking good:)
Opti, Shwetha,
DeleteQH is at a point where even the most die hard fans are fed up...
I am the only exception, probably because I am not bothered much about logic when I watch a show....I leave that out in art and literature...so long as it makes for a good read or a good look...
And that is why I have given up defending QH...because there are obviously very few viewers like me.
About making a mockery of marriage- it was done tastefully in IPKKND(at least for me, because I was expecting a contract marriage to move the story forward...and I was given exactly that...no complaints there...)
On QH: I hope Gul is going to show a woman lashing out against a society that forced this on her, considering Islam is a religion that is very protective towards its women...the way the qasis descended down, I hope Gul is preparing Zoya to make a point at the end of this track...
When I see from that POV, I am still positive about the show. And I agree, it is not AT ALL worth getting hooked on, if U cannot see it like that.
Big heartache for me with this track was not what happened to Zoya- She and Ayan are friends- they will manage. It was Najma getting married off...to the guy who had a relationship with the vamp...and has maybe fathered her child...My Q to Gul is why the sisters should get a raw deal...so their brothers can redeem them...yeh mujhe qubool nahi hai.
'What is the objective of the show? To show such ridiculous and unbelievable things happen in Islam? What is worse is people saying that Asya are the end game so this is just a temporary hurdle. How can a woman accept a man after he just handed her over to his brother to be his wife, without her consent? Precisely the point I hope Gul will make at the end of this track!
Su,
DeleteI don't watch QH. Just read the updates from time to time to keep up with what is going on in the show because I had watched it for about two months in the beginning. As I am not hooked to the show, I am spared of the agony to watching all the heart aches and heart breaks. Today I flipped to QH just to see what was happening and Karan's unkempt hair put me off the show so much that I almost immediately switched to Big Boss, a show which is not my cup of tea but even that seemed better than the current track in DABH and QH. Surely 9.00-10.30 slot has become so boring but I just hang around for Veera which though not as good as it used to be, still is engaging because of the kids. Don't know when the leap will come and kill my interest in the show.
http://www.india-forums.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=3749418
DeleteNot bad..I am not the only die hard fan...This is how a show should be watched, for me...
Opti,
There is no point trying to catch up with QH by reading the WUs... because even a serious viewer like me misses a lot of things on first watch...Same with IPK...lot of things made sense on repeat watch...OR after a good amount of applying my brains.
I watch QH at 9 PM in HD, and chew on it a lot before I get what Gul wants me to see...in the mean time, I am clearing dinner plates and putting my son to sleep...by the time I get to analysis, it is 11:00 and by then, the episode would have taken a different dimension.
Of course, it is easier for me because I DON'T JUDGE ANY OF THE CHARACTERS other then the real villains- Raziya and Tanveer. Between the two, Gul has shown traces of madness in Raziya very clearly, so I guess she might end up in an asylum and not the gallows.
Karan's hair: Is like Barun's hair issue...I wish you had not mentioned it....it has some ominous links to a show shutting down soon...:D
I cannot imagine you or any one who is not a fan watching the show currently, because like I said, more than half the forum is not watching the show....
Try Khelti hai Zindagi Aankh micholi...in Zee at 10:00 PM.
Caught an epi yesterday. I am really impressed. Very simple and sweet story. Has the NBT kid and Jhansi Rani Junior...
Pretty straightforward Family Drama...at least, for now. Very rarely does a show impress me on first watch...the last one was Badaltey Rishtein until it turned too awkward for me.
Su,
DeleteI've watched a couple of episodes of KHZA and it is a good show. I love Gautami. So I guess I'll stick to it for now. I do not want to tax my brain on these shows so it is good I am not watching QH. Let me make it clear. I am not trying to catch up with the show. I read the updates only out of curiosity when I read about some twist. Otherwise the show does not interest me. I briefly enjoyed Asad-Zoya scenes of the past but seriously Karan's hair puts paid to that too (not to mention that illogical stupid track they are showing now). It is no comparison to Barun's locks. Karan's is not only untidy but also uneven. Why do actors go out of the way to look shabby? The guy was supposed to get married before this tamasha broke out, didn't he? Imagine the groom looking like that. I like Vikrant Massey but even he cannot draw me to the show. I must admit that Humeira looked much better when I saw her in a recent episode. So I think I'll agree with you she is a pretty girl (although I was impressed with her looks in the beginning)
Pasting a TOI artcle here....
ReplyDeleteActress Gautami Kapoor will be seen in new show " Khelti Hai Zindagi Aankh Micholi" and says unlike other daily soaps, it has less melodrama and display of over-the-top emotions.
Produced by Esselvision, the show to be aired on Zee TV traces the life of a teenage girl called Ami ( Ulka Gupta) and what happens after she loses her father. In the show, Gautami plays Ami's mom.
"We are trying to have less melodrama, crying and all that in the show. We will try to handle the problems coming our way in the show naturally," Gautami said here Monday on the set of the show.
"Even when we face the problems in real life, there is no melodrama and this is what we will try to show in the show," added the actress who was last seen on the small screen in " Kyunki... Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi...". The actress was also seen in the hit movie "Student Of The Year".
Reportedly, "Khelti Hai..." was to go on-air Sep 9 onwards, but its launch has been delayed for unknown reasons, but the actress is hopeful and said: "I hope you (audience) like it when you watch it."
Not revealing too much about her character, she said: "I play the character of a modern woman in the show."
Ulka, who became popular as Jhansi Ki Rani in the show "Ek Veer Stree Ki Kahaani... Jhansi Ki Rani", said her character is immature.
"Ami is an immature kind of a girl. Her father dies and she was very attached to him. She is independent, not bothered about anyone. She enjoys her life fully. She is happy and bubbly," said Ulka
"For me, it's totally different... This is something new for me to do, so I am doing and enjoying," she added.
hi ladies - so good to "see" you all again
ReplyDeleteOpti - love your logic - and completely agree with you - QH is just making fun of marriage and i honestly don't think Gul has the brains to show anything with hidden inner meaning - that is us giving her too much credit - she just does it for pure masala (logic and appropriateness be damned!) - the reason why IPK was so good was because of the director alone - Naseer (or was it Nasir)
Su - love your optimism - if i ever get caught doing something wrong - i so hope you are my lawyer, you will bail me out for sure :D:D:D
Shwetha - love your bak bak - and will defiantly give your suggestions a try - paki plays are generally much much better that ours simply coz their characterization is really good
All - watched an episode of the series - Je ley zara and have to say - was surprised to see some sense -
so the heroine's sister's future in-laws come in, all high and mighty asking for loads in the name of "parampara" - really liked how all - the nani, dadi, the heroine, all said no because they feared their girl would not be treated as a person in such a house - very realistic (also the bit where the spoilt girl is the only one sulking!) Also liked how the hero then supported the heroines decision to give in by saying that the difference between the no and the yes is that the bride to be knows what she is getting into and its her choice now! have noticed too many young people turn around and blame their parents for their failed marriages by saying, they were just obeying orders!
only two problems with the serial -1- why is the hero younger? - why does every hard working successful heroine have to have a younger person? the "astitva" hangover is not over yet? - first astitva then some "Karol bagh" show and now this
2- the heroine does everything - i mean everything - no one helps her - even her nani to make a cup to tea - a bit ott, don't you think so
Do keep in touch ladies
Mona
Mona,
Delete*hugs*
I think U meant Nissar Pervez...Gul's brother, apparently. He is a part of 4 Lions too.
:D Lawyer! I would make a good lawyer, I guess...But for that you will have to convince me. And only Gul has convinced me so far, though i have given plenty of shows a try....
Hmm..QH just turned nasty with this twist...and Gul is getting bashed left right and centre....I thought the show was getting stagnant before this, so if she is revamping it with the new twist, I am fine.....because this marriage- nikah thing has been vehemently denied by Zoya....who has come a long way from her ta- umr vaada of nikah. Now she is clear that even if fate has her tied to Ayan, she will honour her love more than a concept on a piece of paper...
Kuchh toh log kahenge, logon ka kaam hai kehna types..she is upset that she hads to sign a document that doid not bear Asad's name, but refuses to bow down to the pressures society has imposed on her. Pretty sensible, now that the shock and paralysis that came with the twist that made her numb, has lifted.
PS: I have been foreseeing a separation for a long time, and I hope this separation lasts for long, till the Abbu truth comes out. But knowing Gul, she will continue with her delaying tactics, before she gets anywhere near that.
I am a viewer, until I am kept entertained.
PS - Su, just read ur bits about muslim marriages - though u are correct in all facts - some points that need to be corrected - 1) a qazi is a legal minister who conducts weddings but that is to maintain the laws of the land bit - a qazi (as in the officiating priest who conducts a nikha) can be any muslim member of the community
ReplyDelete2) A valimah is wajib - meaning its a social announcment of a wedding and is done POST ruksati - this is not a cultural add on - this is a religious requirment - though the valima can range from a few people being invited over for a meal to the whole community having a dinner/party
3) Temporary marriages did occur in the arab world till the time of islam's rise under the prophet's command. However - mutha (temp marriage) was and is banned in islam - islam does not recognise the such a wedding
Mona
Thanx, Mona.
DeleteI have not even assimilated what I posted...but your bit makes sense. Though it really doesn't matter much in the show, I guess.
From what I understood, elaborate clauses have been put so that a woman is not wrongly given away, against her wishes...Zoya was crying while she signed the nikahnaama...I hope someone has to answer for that.
So long as that is done, I am a happy customer.
Hellooooooo everyone!!!
ReplyDelete*HUGS* Missed you all and all the bak baking here ... hope you missed me too :))) I was keeping up with the posts here, but it's too difficult to post from my iPad, so I didn't ... besides, I haven't watched any Indian Tv , or any TV at all, except for Chhanchhan very briefly, for over a month, so have absolutely nothing to contribute ;)
Now I am in the land of plenty ...meaning, am in Mumbai, with all the channels available :))) so will catch up. From reports here and elsewhere, I plan to watch Aankh Micholi and Ek Boond Ishq for sure ... they both sound interesting. I also caught a few episodes of Gustakh Dil on Life OK, it was not bad, and the leads are very decent. I liked the girl, she is very spunky and cute, and surprisingly, chirpy but NOT silly as of the few episodes I watched. Missed the part about how the marriage happened, so if anyone is watching that, please fill me in. Will also give Jee Le Zaraa a try ... I did see the first few episodes, so have a clue about how it started.
Should I try EBP? Am not inclined to ... if it had not been named that, I might have, but with that name, it feels almost disloyal to watch :))) and heaven forbid, like it!!!
QH sounds like major Satyanash ... the good thing is that it has cured me of any lingering regret I had that IPK ended ... if this is the way Gul convolutes her plots, even when there is no threat of hero leaving or channel interfering, then it's good IPK ended when it did. :))) So some good comes out of everything :)))
Might give MB another shot ... especially if San does do Nautanki's next :)))
Will catch up with all the posts later!
*hugs* Dia,
DeleteIf San is doing Nautanki 2, I hope they get a good director.
I guess it is your dream come true..You had wanted something like DD's show for her.
No further news on that yet, Su ... Sanaya is apparently in the US for her holiday with her siblings, so I guess further updates will come only when she gets back ... first the usual round of denials, 'nothing is confirmed yet', 'we could not get hold of Sanaya' etc ... and then the confirmation will happen.
DeleteI keep comparing the difference pre-IPK and post-IPK ... pre IPK, after MJHT, we just got news straight away first that Sanaya was being considered for the show, and Barun had been signed already ... and then that she had been signed. Barun had been signed before her, but he did not make the news on his own, he was not well known then. The first news about the show had been with KSG and some other girl, so I don't have that bookmarked.
After IPK, Sanaya's name being even remotely linked with a show makes the news straight away, so we get all these rumors and speculations ... and then the pressure rises for the male lead's name. Almost all other shows announce the couple's name first and then the rest of the cast is added on as they get finalised ... even for IPK, the same thing happened. But now Sanaya by herself is so big, that it becomes 'her' show ... somehow I wish that since this is a love story, it hadn't happened this way and the show had been announced with both the names together, presenting us with a fait accompli ... All this speculation gets annoying after a while. I hope the next news we get of the show is with the male lead in place, and a good one - both a good actor and a reasonably well known one. Don't want the whole swayamvar tamasha that happened with Chhanchhan, and we ended up with such a dud!
Saw ten minutes of EBP ... as a stand alone show, it would probably be okay, I like the girl's parents, have watched them in shows earlier ... but the moment one starts comparing them with IPK, they fall flat, especially the girl. She doesn't have the spunk or fire that Sanaya had as Khushi ... nowhere near it.
ReplyDeleteI watched two scenes of EBP, decided it was not that bad, although nothing remarkable ... just a regular daily soap ... And then happened to watch two scenes of Arhi while checking my YT settings ... and the difference is actually quite stark.
IPKKND had something that set it apart ... CLASS, for want of a better word ... class that was given by Barun and Sanaya because they both have those very classy international looks that no other actors that I can think of have on TV. Apart from their acting skills, which are far superior ... Avinash is trying too hard, I feel .. but in the first couple of months of IPK, Barun was quite stiff too, I noticed in the episodes I saw today ... so Avinash may improve if he just stops trying to be ASR and concentrates on being Shlok whatever. The girl Shrenu doesn't have the spunk that Sanaya had at all ... nor the range of expressions ... she is just a regular mediocre tv actress like most others today. I watched the storeroom scene when Khushi is locked with Arnav ... coincidence, as the EBP episode had Shlok-Aastha locked in a hotel room, and the similarity in situation brought out the difference in acting levels even more starkly. Khushi goes through a myriad of emotions ... anger, defiance, fear, embarrassment, heated replies, tears ... Shrenu was just quiet and subdued almost all through. And I did not see much chemistry at all.
Even Nani looks classy in IPK, while Jayshree T doesn't look so classy in DDEJ.
Anyway, I thought EBP would annoy me to watch, but it is so bland, acting-wise, that it felt like any other show ... didn't excite much reaction from me at all. SP goofed by calling it IPK-EBP ... for anyone who has watched the original, this is not a patch on it. I really wonder why SP did this ... and then put it on the 6 pm slot ... it's as though they're just making a point that this is our show, we can do what we like with it, shut it, run it, whatever ... but they also know that the magic of the first cannot be brought back in a hurry. Pity the actors and the PH though, they are under an unnecessary burden here.
I saw only a couple of scenes, so have no clue about the show and how it is progressing. With Waseem as director, I expect the story to unfold well, but the reports of the regressive misogynistic family of Shlok put me off ... I'd rather watch the more pleasant shows on air.
I am getting old*sigh*
ReplyDeleteJust saw the *don't even remember what the song was* of Ramleela! I just don't get it, director choreographer whoever/whatever...
Just don't get the logic/aesthetic(Really?) of a guy taking his shirt off and dancing dancing in front of a costume party dancers. Sooooooo mehhhhhhhh....and worse, the step where everyone is rubbing their hair/scalp........
Abbey Song hai ki extended ad of a dandruff shampoo? I know producers tie up with brands to recover costs, don't be surprised if during the song even more than the hero the entire focus is on an anti-dandruff shampoo bottle or its billboard..
I mean seriously????
Arey, where is this? I just saw the Deepika dance ... very SLB-ish with a million dancers, great costumes ... didn't see any Ranbeer there, or any shampoo ad ;)
Deletewe are both talking about different songs bey!!...just caught the deepika one, except for the strange reason that the glimpse i saw had all her in long shots, I thought it had the whole dholi song from HDDCS hangover...Watch out for the ranvir one and then tell me!!!
DeleteOkay I like EBP, so this is just me doing my usual faltu bakbaking*wink*
ReplyDeleteFaltu Gyaan from Indian telly shows, for instance - EBP:
1. You have a work site that is soooooooo important to you, you ENSURE there is no one protecting it - no security guard heck no chowkidar even.
2. The villain of the show has to be a budgeted bewakoof as in bewakoof on a budget be it in terms of intelligence or (obviously) money:
Let us see:
Villain wants to harm the heroine, since the top guys are out of his budget - he hires the sabsay sasta gunda around with a weapon, again on a budget - bamboo sticks.
The sasta goonda after great difficulty manages to unleash the bamboo sticks on the lead couple only thwarted by vitamin A enriched eyesight of Aastha and both escape with a gravity defying push that gets converted into a roll and a roll and a roll...... you get the idea.
Now the goonda decides to make a run for it, thinking the lead couple is sooooooo lost in their moment not realizing that if he had remained hidden, the lead couple would have treated it as an accident and he wouldn't have been beaten up bad by (somewhat justifiably so) paranoid Shlok.
Villain of-course makes his escape after epic fail of plan and waste of money.
3. Villain has to be jeejaji who is evil, is a ghar jamai and has a thing - love/lust/hate/annoyance for the heroine and does everything to harm her/get her out of the picture inadvertently bringing the couple closer.
Jijaji wants to have/already has 2 biwis.
4. Now back to apna couple who after a roller coaster ride on the ground are up and standing, hero notices heroine's hand is bleeding.
In a modern twist to the tale, he does not take out his handkerchief or ask for hers, but tears his shirt*errrrrrrrrrr...................*
(*Shwets does a mental thank you to the manufacturer of all our family clothing which do not get torn so easily, Thank you Kapdaywaloon*)
5. You know Love is in the air when:
__You keep getting hurt physically frequently in a matter of days compared to all the years combined in the past
__You decide to carry a first aid kit or the very least a bandage roll/handyplast.....after-all there is only so much of dupatta and shrits you can ruin, right?
__Music, flowers, gifts are so last decade, this decade it is Bandage rolls that bind the souls together*mush mush mush*
4. Now let us come back to Shlok's parents - After getting his feet massaged/dabaofied by his wife for 30 odd minutes, the dad says, it is okay wifey, you can stop now, after-all you are not my daasi but my wife, like duhhhhhhhhhhhh...
He barely notices that his wife while serving him tea is not sitting on the sofa but kneeling on the floor and continues his lecture on how everything is her fault, like duhhhhhhhhhh....
He barely interrupts the exploding son who is blasting his wife without giving her a chance to explain, Oh come onnnnnnnnnn!!!
Wifey aka Mom - donon kay chai may karela ka juice drops daalo if not to the son, atleast to the hubby who is hell bent on being the good guy in front of his son letting her take the heat, grrr..........
One thing is certain, Shlok's mom is terrified of her hubby and I am pretty sure half the reason she does the things she does is cos of him....
Shlok beta wants to make sure the circumference around the havan kund is sufficient enough for pheras and decides to test it out by circling it with Aastha, kyon bhai as far as I know during the pheras at any point only one person is at the front, toh khud his chakkar laga letay, why drag her around *Shwets can see SLB nodding his head in disapproval, aur kitna copy karogay yaar meray scene ko*
I hope you got some gyaan from all the above, if not, well, fikar not, it was faltu anyway*he he*
Shwethuuuu,
DeleteMove to the October post ... I spent ages looking for your post there, then realised you were stuck in September!!!
I watched the episode you're talking about ... and have to say, I ROFLed at exactly the same things as you did!!! Watched it while surfing the web and a dozen other things, so I missed Aastha's keen eyesight ...
Does anyone else feel that they are putting in the Arshi scenes for Shlok-Aastha zabardasi se?! Its like channel has told the cv's ... list of scenes to be put in ... one eyelock, one rain scene, one earring stuck in jacket, one girl falling over guy, one hero bashing up goons for touching girl ... the list goes on!
Or is it because Arshi made these scenes so iconic that even though they were not original in the first place, now everyone else seems to be a copy?! Particularly when the channel has virtually done a paon pe kulhadi maarna, and asked for, nay, INVITED comparisons by calling the show Ek Baar Phir?!
Ab bhugto!!! IF is strict ... here we can compare all we like!!!
