Sanaya Irani, who shot to fame with her performances in shows such as Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon and Rangrasiya, is happy with how her career has turned out to be.
Last seen on TV in a full-fledged role three years back, the actor has been busy exploring newer avenues. Her short film, Dum Dum Dumroo is days away from its release, but Sanaya refuses to divulge any details. "It's a film at the end of which you will learn something. I can't say anything about it now, as it will give out the plot. It has a mixture of everything comedy, surprise, teasing the viewers with what is going to happen next, she remains tight-lipped.
Sanaya, who was first seen on the show Left Right Left, and went on to impress viewers in shows such as Miley Jab Hum Tum, shares that the journey has been rewarding so far. "I have been very lucky in terms of the kind of work I have got and done, and not in the sense that those things (eventually) worked out well for me. As an actor, I pretty much got what I wanted, every role being different from the other. That all the shows worked out for me is the icing on the cake, she says.
Sanaya got married to actor Mohit Sehgal in 2016. With both of them having busy [work] schedules, how do they manage to take out time for each other? "Marriage just makes it all easier, because you come back home to each other. I did shows like Nach Baliye (2016) with Mohit, so I got to spend a lot of time with him. We travel together too, so, time is not an issue, she muses.
A lot is said about the notion that after marriage, the kind of roles that female actors get change drastically, and some even stop getting work. Sanaya, however, differs. "Luckily, that didn't happen with me. It depends from person-to-person. Even if such roles are offered to me, I wouldn't take them up. It's not going to happen, she signs off.
Amusing bit in the interview ... Mohit has a busy work schedule??!! When does he find time to work?! In between his hectic holiday schedule?! He even labelled the trip to Dubai as a holiday ... despite knowing very well that for Sanaya it was a work trip, and moreover, it was the premiere of her first short film, which she was very excited about. Disappointing ... have lost all respect for him. Even his friends are mocking his constant holidays.
So the rain of Sanaya continues ... we have a music video to look forward to this month ... again with a good co-star ... and then Vodka Shots, which according to Sanaya's interview, should start shooting soon ... hopefully once she returns from Dubai.
I'm really happy with the range of costars she has lined up ... from unknown ones like Anil Charanjeett of DDD, to Ashish Mehrotra in INS, who turned out to be really good ... to Arijit in the music video and Karan Grover in Vodka Shots. I have not been 100% satisfied with any of Sanaya's costars in her TV shows ... Mohit was a bad actor ... Barun was very good, but lousy work ethics, abandoned the show ... Anuj was decent but came in only halfway through Chanchan, after the awful FK ... Ashish was a good actor and a dedicated one, and their chemistry was brilliant, but he wasn't good looking ...
I seem to be very hard to please!!!
But I have been happy with both Anil and Ashish ... short stints both but no complaints ... especially Ashish ... after watching the other acts today, his act was definitely the best of the evening, and as a performer too, he was the best of the lot. Am sorry to hear he didn't win.
I'm so happy to see Sanaya's entire body of work being appreciated, from LRL to MJHT to IPKKND to RR ... she is in no way a one show wonder, like so many TV actors are ... she has a solid body of work behind her. Also happy to see that she is in no way slipping into older roles, and is not ready to do them yet either. Watching her in DDD and INS today reinforced that she is still very much in the running for lead roles ... not the ubiquitous 18 year old young innocent saintly FLs of TV, but more solid substantial roles. Hope she finds something soon ... or has already found something ... the two short glimpses today have whetted my appetite for more!

the same interview in the print version of HT today

I am glad they removed the bit about marriage and hectic work schedules ... for one, mentioning Mohit and hectic work schedules in the same sentence is laughable, considering the guy has more hectic holiday schedules than work ones ... and for the second, this makes the interview completely Sanaya work focussed. She needs to keep her PR completely solo Sanaya focussed now ... she has just come back in the news for her work, and needs to keep it that way. It's been MoNaya love story focussed for too long ... and whatever said and done, marriage does start to affect shelf lives of actresses. Sanaya can keep her career as leading lady going for some time, as she still looks incredibly girlish and young ... but she needs to focus on Sanaya Irani, actress ... and not drag her marital status and her hubby into every article. Drashti is very good at that ... you hardly hear mention of her husband.
