Edited with more articles and pics below
Week 1 - Nach started rather disastrously for Sanaya and Mohit, as he forgot his steps halfway through and completely blanked out. Sanaya kept going, and he managed to come back to some extent.
Judges were rather harsh with the marking ... as it is the first week, they could have been more lenient. Especially since it was his first time doing a live act on stage. Anyway, hope he does better next week, and hope he CUTS HIS HAIR!!! Poor guy looked quite devastated about his mistake. Sanaya was good, and energetic ... choreography was good.
Week 2
All articles and pics below - updating with brief review of the act -
Sanaya-Mohit
Sanaya a doll, Mohit a dollmaker on the last day of his life, he wants to spend it with the doll he loves ... he winds her up and dances with her. Sanaya was very, very good as the doll - stiff jointed, yet graceful ... there were a couple of moments when she lost her doll stiffness, but by and large she maintained it beautifully. Special mention to the part where he pulls her up and she stands up from sitting without bending at the knees - so difficult to do in real life, but she did it ... and when the doll keels over and falls to the floor - again San maintained her stiff legs and even more, her doll expression - the fixed smile ... all the way to the floor ... that was fabulous, and Terence even remarked on it, because it was so tough to do. And the emotions in the end, when the doll loses her maker, and has to continue to exist without him, were sweet and soft, the sadness as the doll curls up heartwrenching. Sanaya performed beautifully in a tough act.
Mohit was again very average - thank god he has cut his hair, looked so much better! He needs to improve his lifts, he was struggling ... this with San who is a lightweight!!! Fortunately the choreographer gave him much less to do, so the act went smoothly. Sanaya was the star and she did very well.
Saw the other Sunday acts - still haven't watched the Saturday ones. Brief take -
Aashka -Brent - If San was the star of her act, Brent was the star of his. Normal BW dance, very energetic, very fast, and Brent performed brilliantly, expressions along with dance. Aashka was okay ... didn't notice her so much, Brent stole the attention. He is a solid dancer. Liked this act the best today.
Sanam Abigail - The concept of classical dance to an item song has been done earlier, so not a new concept. Further, have watched Sanaya do this brilliantly in JDJ to Baby Doll ... comparing the two, Sanaya was much, much better ... Abigail's posture, her hand movements and general dance movements were nowhere near what kathak should be. Terence mentioned the same in his comments.
Shoiab Deepika - Shoaib is a good dancer, Deepika is average. Their act had very little dance, a couple of good moments. Crying nautanki by Deepika after the act ... does she have to do this every episode?!
Utkarshaji-Manoj - very very average - not surprised they scored low. Maybe they knew they were out, the act didn't look like they had spent too much time or effort on it.
So my ranking for Sunday - Brent-Aashka ... San-Mohit ... Sanam Abigail ... Shoaib deepika ... Utkarsha Manoj.

Actor Sanaya Irani, who is currently seen as a contestant alongside her husband Mohit Sehgal on dance reality show Nach Baliye 8, says she considers herself a better dancer than him.
"I am a non-dancer. When I was a part of Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 8, its judges used to say that a non-dancer came into the finals. But now I find this funny that suddenly in Nach Baliye, people are calling me a dancer," Sanaya told IANS in New Delhi on Wednesday.
"Still, I consider myself a non-dancer. It's just that I am a better dancer than Mohit. I feel it will take time for us to understand each other's dance. It's hard, but it's amazing how our bodies are tuning slowly yet steadily," she added.
Sanaya said Mohit is working hard on his dancing skills for the Star Plus show.
"I have better knowledge of music and rhythm than Mohit. He has less knowledge in dance, but he is working hard. I am very happy that with every week he is improving his skills. It is difficult for him. Still, I feel he will learn it for sure," she said.
Sanaya, who married Mohit in January 2016, says the two were offered Nach Baliye a couple of times in the past.
"We were being offered Nach Baliye since last four or five years, but due to work commitments we were not able to become a part of it. I don't want to do two things together. This time also there were a few date issues. However, somehow we managed to make time and decided to do this show," she said.
"Nach Baliye 8" also features celebrity couples like Divyanka Tripathi and Vivek Dahiya; Dipika Kakar and Shoaib Ibrahim; Abigail Jain and Sanam Johar; and Bharti Singh and Harsh Limbachiyya.
The show is being judged by Sonakshi Sinha, Terence Lewis and Mohit Suri.

Mohit Sehgal: I had never danced before, Sanaya pushed me to do 'Nach Baliye 8'
Sanaya Irani and Mohit Sehgal strike a pose for us in CP (BCCL/ Ranjit Kumar)
Like most Delhiites, the only form of dance that actor Mohit Sehgal knew was 'baraatwala dance' - till the time he agreed to be a part of dance reality show 'Nach Baliye 8'. It took some efforts to convince him to dance, but his wife Sanaya Irani didn't give up easily. "I had never danced before in my life. I didn't even dance at my own wedding because I knew my family would laugh at me for being such a bad a dancer. Sanaya, who is a passionate dancer, pushed me to do this show. It hasn't been easy, but I have started to enjoy dancing now," says Mohit. The Delhi boy tells us that he is also planning to take Sanaya on a dinner date to Purani Dilli.
'We dance for almost 9-10 hours each day'Unlike Mohit, Sanaya has been a passionate dancer, but she is now learning to coordinate steps with Mohit. "Since Mohit had never danced before, initially I used to tell him to start rehearsing in the morning and I would join him later. But after the first week, I realised that I need to be there throughout the day. Even though I pick up steps faster than him, we needed to coordinate with each other. He dances very well with the assistant and I dance very well with the choreographer, but the minute we come together, we can't coordinate. As we are not trained dancers, we took time to understand each other's body movements. Now we rehearse together and for the past month or so our days have been only about dancing. We start at 11am and dance till 2.30-3pm, after an hour's break we continue to dance till 10.30-11 pm," says Sanaya and adds that so far they have only done Bollywood and freestyle dancing, but they will soon learn Tango and Salsa.
'Dancing doesn't pressurize us as much as being active on social media does'Along with perfecting their dance moves, the celebrity couple is also trying to improve on their social media habits, not just because public voting is an important part of reality shows, but also because they feel that "it is important as celebrities today to stay connected to your fans, one just can't do without it." Says Sanaya, "We have been really lucky when it comes to fan following, people have been following our work for years, of course, there are haters which I don't pay attention to. I don't even read what haters say because they say really nasty things which have no connection to dance. They are calling us names just because we missed a dance step, that makes no sense. Pressure for us is about being on social media, we are not very active on it. I am really dumb when it comes to social media. But fans want to know what you are doing, where you are going. Initially, I found that weird, but now I realise that when it comes to work, I need to stay connected to them. I would not post every detail of my day, like now I am eating here, dinner date there, etc, but I would share what we are doing at our rehearsals. We try that at least one of us keeps tweeting or posting pictures on Instagram."
The actress adds that just because they have a good fan following, "some people often say that we can go ahead easily in a reality show." Says Sanaya, "We have got the fan following from the work we have done before. Sometimes people tell us, 'Oh, you guys will go ahead as you will get votes.' I have heard that a lot in my previous shows that you have gone ahead only because you have the votes and because people love you. I just say that I have worked hard for it, I don't feel bad about it, I have been around for 8-10 years in the industry and have worked my a** off, so stop judging me and saying that just because I have the votes I am going to go far."
'It will be good if our dance reality shows could be a little less dramatic'Just like our films, our dance reality shows are a bit too dramatic, feels Sanaya, who has been an ardent follower of shows like So You Think You Can Dance. "I understand that the format of 'Nach Baliye' is different - it is for the audience to see their favourite actors do something different. Even the judges keep in mind that they are not judging trained dancers, so they will guide you but they won't be very critical of your dancing. But when I see most dance reality shows here, I feel we do a little more drama, the focus is on drama. Like our movies, even our dance reality shows are overdramatic, so I feel that drama should be limited in reality shows," says Sanaya.
Mohit's plan to take Sanaya on a dinner date in DelhiMohit says that he has been planning to take Sanaya out on a date in Delhi, but that has not happened yet because their trips to Delhi are always short. "My parents stay here and I only come to Delhi if I have work or whenever I miss them. I have been wanting to take Sanaya to Karim's in Old Delhi. She has been to Karim's at other places, but I keep telling her that nothing is as good as purani Dilli wala Karim's," says Mohit.
(Dia's note - I really like both parts in red - both San's talk about ignoring haters, and her views on why she gets such high votes - it's because of her own hard work over the last many years, as well as her exemplary behaviour offscreen, which has slowly and steadily increased her fan following to its present humungous level.

Sanaya Irani on how she has been living up to the challenge of the eighth edition of Nach Baliye
Model-turned-actress Sanaya Irani, who has demonstrated her flair for histrionics in serials like Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon and Miley Jab Hum Tum, is now trying to woo hearts of viewers with her dancing skills in Nach Baliye season 8 . Along with her husband Mohit Sehgal, she has give some scintillating performances in the dance reality show.
The young actress – who made a dream debut in Bollywood as Kajol’s friend in Aamir Khan’s starrer Fanaa – opens up on the hurdles which have come her way in the show that celebrates the spirit of partnership through the exuberance of dance.
The actress did not chalk out a plan in the run-up to Nach Baliye. Sanaya says: “ I am neither a professional dancer nor did I learn any dance form. You cannot learn dance in a jiffy. So we are learning dance step by step as our choreographers teach us. We follow each step and move as they are working very hard with us for our win. And hopefully with the support and love of audience and judges we would definitely win the title.”
Sanaya feels there are things which she and her better half can learn from other co-contestants.
“Every couple varies from the other. There are so many things which we can adopt from others. One common trait among all of them is that they all are expressive while showing their love. On the other hand, we, as a couple, are more private and less talkative about our private life. This is important in the relationship and we really want to enhance this.”
Heart breaking moments
There have been heart breaking moments for the couple in the show.
“The first day when we bonded together I was less expressive to show my love even though I am of jolly nature and talkative. Every one has an opinion that Mohit does not talk like I do. But I told judges and audiences that he always expresses his love presenting sweet things to me. This was the most difficult situation for me but I did it for Mohit.”
On her plans, the actress says: “I will be very happy and top of this world if we win the trophy. We are working hard on it and hope to win it together.
After all there is nothing better than winning a trophy with your husband. But after that we will continue with our acting career as acting is our identity and we love to do that.”

HIGH ON DANCE
Sanaya Irani and Mohit Sehgal talk about dance shows and the dash of drama they could do without. Team Viva reports
The two met on the sets of Star One’s show Miley Jab Hum Tum, where they fell for each other. Mohit Sehgal and Sanaya Irani, who tied the knot in Goa last year, are now trying to woo hearts of viewers with their dancing skills in Nach Baliye season 8. “We were offered the show four years back but we were caught up with one thing or the other then,” says model turned actress Sanaya. “I am not a good dancer, Sanaya pushed me for the dance show,” Mohit chips in. More than a bonding exercise, it is also about acquirig team performance skills for them.
Along with perfecting their dance moves, the celebrity couple is also trying to improve their social media habits. “It is not just because public voting is an important part of reality shows, but also because we feel a social platform is the best way to connect with all our fans,” smiles Sanaya.
Sanaya, who has been an ardent follower of shows like So You Think You Can Dance, feels the dance reality shows in India are way too dramatic. “I understand that the format of Nach Baliye is different - it is for the audience to see their favourite actors do something unique. Even the judges keep in mind that they are not judging trained dancers and eventually land guiding you. But when I see most dance reality shows here, I feel we do a little more drama.”
The couple wants to attempt every dance form on the reality show. “I want to grab every opportunity and give my best,” says Mohit.
While Mohit’s current focus is on the dance reality show, Sanaya is waiting for her forthcoming show’s promos to be on air. “After Nach Baliye, I will continue with my acting career as acting is my identity and I love to do that,” she concludes.
Looks like the last line of this article and the Hindu one are derived from the same quote. Anyway, good to know Sanaya is waiting to get back to fiction and her upcoming show!!!
