Sanaya dance on the Mirchi Top20 countdown show ... and Other Shows.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7q3w-waoimI

Beautiful girl, beautiful songs ... Tenu Samjhawan is my personal favorite of the year, am glad it's at no 2... I wish it was at no. 1 ... Baby Doll? Like, really? Not just because the song is not that great, apart from its beat ... but also, in the current socio-political climate, it's not really a good idea for an item song to top the list. I much prefer Saturday Saturday if they really had to have a peppy dance song as no. 1 ... ideally I would have loved Tenu Samjhawan as no. 1 ... the song is soft, simple and very melodious, and has lovely lyrics ... attributes missing all too often in songs these days.

YHM seems to be going rapidly downhill ... the precap of the airport confession scene was cringeworthy. Divyanka's dialogue delivery .... uurrrgghh!!! Why does she sound so childish in an 'I love you" scene?! Missed the actual episode ... and I don't have much enthu to catch up either.

ADHY - entry of the standard Ekta vamp ... the evil nanad. Hmm ... let's see how long this remains watchable. Can see the downward slide starting. And the rumor about the leap was correct ... 6 month leap ... and the changes it has brought in the lives of Vikram and Shobha. Garima and Sanju having tiffs about the coming baby.

Itna Na Karo Mujhse Pyaar ... started off with a whimper ... the protagonist Ragini is still very weak, her dialogue delivery is shrill and flat ... Ronit Roy is very good ... he makes the show worth watching, for now ... the story has picked up, so am liking it better ... although it's still very Ekta-ish with it's quota of wicked nanad vamp here too. Let's see how the equations between Neil and Ragini, and the sub-equations between all the children, are handled ... that is holding my interest as of now.

Trying to watch the last week of Ek Hasina Thi ... want to see the finale and the final showdown. After which I will switch to Mahakumbh ... that seems like a good show.  Good enough to pass time till Sanaya comes back with a new show ... hope she is back before the first season of MK ends.

Aside - so MAMR, Barun's great debut film with the wonderful script, for which he destroyed an iconic show, has come and gone. Not just a flop, but a disaster. What an unmitigated idiot he is! I hope for his sake, that his other movies with wonderful scripts, are better executed than this one ... his choice seems very suspect as of now.
Fortunately for him, most reviews said his performance was decent ... not really surprising, as he was basically playing an extension of himself, and he is a decent actor when he wants to be ... also the rest of the cast was so bad that I guess he shone just by sheer contrast! Andhon mein kaana raja and all that    Doubt that will make much difference for the moment ... a movie has to been to be appreciated ... Mamr got so many reviews because it was the movie for which he left IPK and ASR, his sole claim to fame ... despite his repeated attempts to disown the show and the role, which is his only success in his career so far ... his subsequent movies won't have that distinction, and will be reviewed on a standalone basis only.

Another aside ... Alone seems to be getting a lot of buzz ... not a movie I will watch, but it seems to be rather well done, and that genre has a lot of takers.

Am looking forward to PK ... will be catching it in the hall tomorrow. Not at all sure what to expect ... I loved 3 idiots and the two Munnabhai movies, am a fan of Hirani, not so much of Aamir, but he does good movies.

  1. Nice round up Dia... I like the comment about the ASR piece... everyone was trying to forget that but the movie was promoted on the basis of his fame as ASR , the promos had the ASR image on them...

I too agree that he was playing a louder /crasser version of himself... so would have been a surrpise if he hadn't got that right... let's see what the next movie brings...

But one thing is established... online popularity does not translate into offline viewership.... for TV or for cinema... hope that the online crazy fandom realizes this..

    1. Well, online popularity doesn't translate into movie viewership for sure ... for TV, since the trps are so skewed, online popularity is as good an indicator as any ... the audience base for online popularity is actually wider than the number of trp households.

But would those same online viewers spend their hard earned money to watch the same stars in a movie hall ... nope, not unless the final product is good. Movie tickets are just too expensive these days. I count Sanaya fans as well as BS fans here ... I would watch a movie for her any day ... but for the average movie-goer, how good the movie is, rules the decision ... even for the superstars of BW.

Well, so far BS is strictly a one hit wonder ... two flop shows, one hit show and one disaster movie. His only claim to fame is ASR ... it's quite surprising ... and rather short-sighted - of him to keep playing that role down ... at least until he has a better one to his credit. I don't think Sukhi whatisname is going to make it to the annals of most-loved movie characters in a hurry ... while ASR/Arnav remains one of the iconic characters of TV. But then ... his life, his choice ... I was following the reports to see what was this wonderful role and wonderful script for which he torpedoed a much-loved show at the point when they were just getting to the meat of the story ... must say, if he thought this was worth leaving IPK for, then I think very poorly of his choices. Anyway, it affected me then, as it spoiled a show I loved ... now, frankly, I couldn't care less.

  2. Just caught up with the first episode of Mahakumbh ... this is a show worth watching. I don't know if I will make daily updates ... but this goes into the watch list for sure. Acting is superlative, sets and locations are awesome ... I love the way TV shows are now filming well in advance and shoot at real locations ... it gives the shows a big screen movie look ... awesome.

  3. Watched PK ... shades of OMG, a movie I really liked. PK makes a statement which is similar yet different enough to set it apart ... all religion is man-made, God does not need rules and regulations, moreover God does not need 'protection'. Seen through the eyes of an alien, or a child, life is simple ... as we grow older, and we get indoctrinated into the rules and dogmas of our respective religions, the differences creep in, which are all created by men, not by God ... or whatever that Supreme Force that created us all, is.

Poignant moments ... PK sees a man paying for goods with a note which has Gandhiji's picture on it ... he goes around collecting everything which has Gandhiji's picture ... posters, stamps, newspaper cuttings ... only to find them all worthless ... it is only the Rs 50 note Gandhiji who carries value.

Sarfaraz tells Jaggu ... 'I work in the Pakistan Embassy ... obviously I won't get work in the Indian Embassy, as I'm Pakistani.'

Jaggu expected Sarfaraz to let her down ... so when it seemed he did, she accepted that as truth completely, without a second thought. So deeply are stereotypes ingrained in our minds over the years, that they rob us of any thinking or reasoning power ... and of any questioning power.

The part about Godmen was done better in OMG, as was the part about feeding milk to stone gods, instead of using it to feed the poor.

Aamir Khan acted phenomenally well, Anushka was very good too ... bright and perky. The movie rested on the shoulders of these two, and they delivered ... and how!
I liked Sushant in the movie too ... sweet simple role, and he did it well, his diction was especially good and established him as an Urdu speaker from the word go. Boman Irani was nice in a very small role. Sanjay Dutt was good ... the part about him knocking down PK and then taking him to the doctor and pretending to be Good Samaritan, was cute.

All in all, a very nice, very watchable movie ... an entertaining movie, with the typical Hirani light touch ... and a number of good messages ... if they can be seen with an open mind and accepted.

Amen to that ... hope we get some news of Sanaya's return soon in the New Year! I have absolutely no motivation to write on anything ... although I am watching a few shows, but all erratically, and none inspire me to write or discuss much. Let's hope Sanaya's return to TV changes that in the new year.

      Love xx

    1. Just saw this on the RR forum ... good for Ashish, he is a good actor and very hard working. Not surprised that he is coming back so soon. Am not a fan, so I may not follow his show unless it catches my interest ... but I wish him all the best.
