Sanaya dance on the Mirchi Top20 countdown show ... and Other Shows.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7q3w-waoimI

Beautiful girl, beautiful songs ... Tenu Samjhawan is my personal favorite of the year, am glad it's at no 2... I wish it was at no. 1 ... Baby Doll? Like, really? Not just because the song is not that great, apart from its beat ... but also, in the current socio-political climate, it's not really a good idea for an item song to top the list. I much prefer Saturday Saturday if they really had to have a peppy dance song as no. 1 ... ideally I would have loved Tenu Samjhawan as no. 1 ... the song is soft, simple and very melodious, and has lovely lyrics ... attributes missing all too often in songs these days.

YHM seems to be going rapidly downhill ... the precap of the airport confession scene was cringeworthy. Divyanka's dialogue delivery .... uurrrgghh!!! Why does she sound so childish in an 'I love you" scene?! Missed the actual episode ... and I don't have much enthu to catch up either.

ADHY - entry of the standard Ekta vamp ... the evil nanad. Hmm ... let's see how long this remains watchable. Can see the downward slide starting. And the rumor about the leap was correct ... 6 month leap ... and the changes it has brought in the lives of Vikram and Shobha. Garima and Sanju having tiffs about the coming baby.

Itna Na Karo Mujhse Pyaar ... started off with a whimper ... the protagonist Ragini is still very weak, her dialogue delivery is shrill and flat ... Ronit Roy is very good ... he makes the show worth watching, for now ... the story has picked up, so am liking it better ... although it's still very Ekta-ish with it's quota of wicked nanad vamp here too. Let's see how the equations between Neil and Ragini, and the sub-equations between all the children, are handled ... that is holding my interest as of now.

Trying to watch the last week of Ek Hasina Thi ... want to see the finale and the final showdown. After which I will switch to Mahakumbh ... that seems like a good show.  Good enough to pass time till Sanaya comes back with a new show ... hope she is back before the first season of MK ends.

Aside - so MAMR, Barun's great debut film with the wonderful script, for which he destroyed an iconic show, has come and gone. Not just a flop, but a disaster. What an unmitigated idiot he is! I hope for his sake, that his other movies with wonderful scripts, are better executed than this one ... his choice seems very suspect as of now.
Fortunately for him, most reviews said his performance was decent ... not really surprising, as he was basically playing an extension of himself, and he is a decent actor when he wants to be ... also the rest of the cast was so bad that I guess he shone just by sheer contrast! Andhon mein kaana raja and all that    Doubt that will make much difference for the moment ... a movie has to been to be appreciated ... Mamr got so many reviews because it was the movie for which he left IPK and ASR, his sole claim to fame ... despite his repeated attempts to disown the show and the role, which is his only success in his career so far ... his subsequent movies won't have that distinction, and will be reviewed on a standalone basis only.

Another aside ... Alone seems to be getting a lot of buzz ... not a movie I will watch, but it seems to be rather well done, and that genre has a lot of takers.

Am looking forward to PK ... will be catching it in the hall tomorrow. Not at all sure what to expect ... I loved 3 idiots and the two Munnabhai movies, am a fan of Hirani, not so much of Aamir, but he does good movies.

DDLJ 1000th week celebration

Waiting for tonight when DDLJ airs again on TV ... and we get CNWK with the entire DDLJ cast.

Till then, some snippets as BW celebrates this iconic movie.

Meet Keshav Naidu, editor of Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge

MEHUL S. THAKKAR | December 12, 2014, 00.12 am IST

Keshav Naidu who worked with Aditya Chopra for DDLJ admits that when he first laid his eyes on the footage of the first schedule of the film, he knew it was going to be historic

Keshav Naidu who worked with Aditya Chopra for DDLJ admits that when he first laid his eyes on the footage of the first schedule of the film, he knew it was going to be historic
Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge tops many a list of Bollywood romance flicks and holds the record for being the second longest running film in the world. But statistics aside, for filmi buffs, the film is the epitome of on-screen romance and quotable quotes. While the stars are clearly the face of the film, a gargantuan effort was made by the editor to compress the best elements of the movie and present it in the best way possible.

Keshav Naidu was in his 40s when he worked with Aditya Chopra for DDLJ. He admits that when he first laid his eyes on the footage of the first schedule of the film, he knew it was going to be historic. "The day I saw the footage, I was like this film is history in the making. Of all the directors I have worked with in the industry, Aditya is the easiest man to work with. He was very clear headed; no hassles and we could work very smoothly. He knew what he wanted so the decision was taken very quickly.

The work was fast-paced and for a first film of a new director, I think it was brilliant," recollects Keshav, while adjusting his black-framed spectacles and trying to recollect every moment of that time. That Aditya had a very clear idea of how he wanted the film to be and eventually turn out, helped Keshav in putting together the masterpiece of a film. "It's a well crafted screenplay; everything is well knit that there is nothing much you can do beyond the director's vision. Any other person in my place would have done the same thing. The film will always be remembered for the performances of Shah Rukh and Kajol. This one scene where they are parting away after the tour at the railway station, she talks about her impending wedding and asks if he would attend. Shah Rukh just says Mein Nahi Aaunga'. That is a world-class scene and till date I have not seen a scene so powerful."

While reams have been written about the super success of the film, not many know that the film actually did take up as many reams, quite literally. The unedited footage of DDLJ went up to 1.5 lakh feet. The final print was as long as 16,000 feet. A total 18 movie reels were used for the shoot, which isn't much for a debutant considering most senior directors would end up consuming more than 21 reels. Keshav lets out that Yash Chopra had imported an 8-plate Steenbeck editing table, the only one of its kind in the industry at that time. Even Yashraj had, until then, worked on a six-plate one.

Given that the film went on to become a blockbuster in the pre-'100-crore club era, we ask him what his remuneration was back then. He smiles and without hesitation says, "I was paid Rs2.5 lakhs. In those days the standard of living was not too high... toh chal jaata tha."

While Keshav assisted Aditya in his debut film, it wasn't his first stint with the Chopras. He started his career by doing odd jobs at a film lab in Worli, which had long rows of editing rooms. He came in contact with many ad filmmakers; directors who always needed technical help in the final stages. He helped filmmaker Chetan Anand in one of his films and later bagged the job of an editor for the Rajesh Khanna-starrer Kudrat.

"During the mixing of this film at Raj Kamal Studios, Mangesh Desai (re-recordist of Deewar) saw my enthusiasm and liked my work. At that time Yash Raj Films was looking for an editor and he recommended by name to Yash Chopra. So I  joined them. At that time he was making Silsila." The rest, as they say, is history. Little did Keshav know what a role he'd have in shaping cinematic history.

A picture worth a 1,000 weeks

DC CORRESPONDENT | December 12, 2014, 00.12 am IST
Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge completes a historic 1,000-week run at the Maratha Mandir today
Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge completes a historic 1,000-week run at the Maratha Mandir today
A leading news magazine describes 1995 as the year "the Shiv Sena came to power in Maharashtra, Bombay became Mumbai and Mayawati became Uttar Pradesh's first Dalit chief minister". The round up of that year's major news events also included a match-fixing controversy involving Shane Warne, the Charar-E-Sharief shrine in Kashmir being torched, Amitabh Bachchan's ABCL being launched and the Enron project scrapped, the death of Ranjan Pillai, Gary Kasparov's win over Viswananthan Anand at the PCA World Chess Championships, and the controversy Madhu Sapre-Milind Soman courted by posing in the nude for a shoe ad.

There was also this headline among all the others: "DDLJ is a smash hit". For Bollywood, 1994 was the year of Hum Aapke Hain Kaun: Joint families were cool, as were family values and endless rounds of antakshari. The next year's Bollywood releases would include Bombay, Rangeela, Coolie No. 1, Karan Arjun, Raja, Sabse Bada Khiladi  and Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge. The film was an immediate phenomenon. News reports at the time estimated that the film would go on to do a business of about Rs 50 crores  a landmark amount in the days before the 100-crore club was created. Ultimately, it would go on to earn Rs106 crores in India and about '16 crore in the US. It would also win 10 Filmfare Awards and a National Award.

As it completes a 1,000-week run at the Maratha Mandir theatre today, the longest running film in Indian cinema, we look at what made the film special. What was it about DDLJ that drew so many people to the theatres? Was it the Raj-Simran romance and how we rooted for it to work out? Was it the glimpses of Europe  in the pre-Internet, fully globalised era- that seduced us, even as the film reiterated that there was no place like home? Was it the music or the dialogues or the story  or a combination of all three? DDLJ stuck to many Bollywood tropes, established a few, overturned many others. And somehow, in doing all this, it managed to make us do just what its tagline asked: "Come... Fall In Love".

Other Shows We're Watching ... and Sanaya Snippets

Currently I'm only watching Ajeeb Dastaan Hai Yeh ... it's limited episodes, so the pace is very crisp, the story is good and the acting is very good ... Harsh, Sonali, the lady playing her MIL, Garima are really, really good ... all the actors in fact, are very good and a pleasure to watch. I've even gotten used to Apoorva now!
So Samarth divorces Shobha ... her MIL supports her ... eyes finally opened after her own daughter was almost raped in her own home ...
While Vikram is upset because Shobha brought up his past, when he told her to get over it ... Shobha was justified ... her past wasn't even past yet, and he was telling her to move on ... his past has been over and done with for some years now, but he's still dwelling in it ...
And of course Garima's married life is not going to be a bed of roses ... her new jethani isn't all that thrilled at the wedding as she pretends to be ...
Samarth and Ajay both have sworn to wreak havoc on Shobha for wrecking their plans ...

So there still seems to be a lot more to come in the story.

Sanaya Snippets

Woke up to new pics and a small new segment of Sanaya on her upcoming performance in the Mirchi Awards. Sanaya's smile ... what a great way to start the day.

And in the evening, after I get back from work ... more Sanaya .. pics at the MAMR party and two segments ... in one of which she bullies all her fans ... 'you guys have to watch go out, buy tickets and watch MAMR in the hall.'

Arnav and khushi akkaa Barun Sobti and sanaya irani at Main aur Mr. Right Party!! DSC 0445

Sanaya's excitement at the end made me sad ... all the bitterness of the ending and the unrelenting Sanaya bashing by BS pankhis for the last two years, has wiped out any excitement or pleasure I might have gotten from watching BS on screen, and made sure that I have no desire to watch BS on the big screen. They've spread so much poison and hatred over the last two years ... on a girl who was just doing her job to the best of her ability. She doesn't hold any grudges against BS for leaving the show, she has moved on ... I can't be so generous. Until San gets a new hit show, BS is history for me ... and maybe even after that. Which is a pity, because they are both obviously good friends still ... not that that's a surprise, because Sanaya tends to make friends with everyone.

Sanaya Snippets

Very bored these days ... realised I hadn't posted a couple of articles.

http://indiantellywoodforum.blogspot.in/2014/11/top-10-best-shows-of-2014.html

Top 10 best shows of 2014

At number 5 - Rangrasiya Rang Rasiya was the comeback of the popular actress, Sanaya Irani after her not-so-successful show, ChanChan. The showproved to be a success, and Sanaya's chemistry with her co-star, Ashish Sharma was loved the viewers. Sanaya as Paro/Myra and Ashish as Rudra got a lot of appreciation and they were very popular on social media sites. Unfortunately the show didn;t perform well in trps chart but still the show deserve to be in top 5 because it was immensely popular among the online viewers.

Sanaya looks ethereal here ... young, innocent and utterly stunning.

Movies and Shows We're Watching

Watched Best Exotic Marigold Hotel finally ... it's been on my list for a long time. Very nice movie, a bit cliched, but the acting is stellar.

Shows -

Still watching Ajeeb Dastaan Hai Yeh ... I like the way they're taking Shobha ... she's very real, she makes mistakes, she stumbles, she picks herself up. She wants to trust her husband of nine years ... it's not so easy to break off a relationship so abruptly, even if she has been so badly betrayed. And she's a mother, and her kids miss their father. Dharam kshetre Kurukshetre.

and

Yeh Hai Mohabbatein ... have a feeling this is going to start going down the tubes shortly. Ishita is already mahaan devi. It's still watchable though.

Everest ... decent start. The leads are newbies and are raw in their acting skills, but again, it's watchable. Was disappointed in the girl's story, or rather, in the lack of depth in it ... I thought the father must have lost a son or something, to make him so bitter and biased against his daughter. But he just doesn't want a daughter ... or rather, he wanted a son more. Strange in an educated Services man. Apart from that, it's started off well. The scenes at the start of the show with the location shots in the mountains were breath-taking ... although fortunately they were a dream.

Adding here the link of the Sanish tea ad in HQ. Sanaya is looking so fresh and adorable! Nice to see Ashish smiling!

News on Sanaya

Will add the link for Sanaya's ITA performance and some snaps soon ... she looked gorgeous, and her dance was beautiful and very graceful.

Some trickles of news have started ... the most hilarious one was an article saying that DD might be cast opposite Mohit in ST's new Sony show, and how would that impact San and DD"s friendship, if DD and Mohit made a hit, 'hot' jodi. Implying ... and also if DD and Mohit grew closer. What crap these sites write! In the first place, neither San or DD is trying out for the Sony show, Mohit's heroine is a new girl from a LifeOK show. Secondly, if Mohit even looked at any other girl, San would ditch him without a second thought. He knows better than to try it! And thirdly, DD would never look at San's bf ... she is as honest as San about such matters, and moreover, has a perfectly good bf of her own.
Wonder why so many articles on Mohit with DD ... DD is way beyond Mohit's league now. Or is it just one article, recycled a few times.

Another wild rumor, rivaling the above for its hilarity and unbelievability ... Sanaya and Rucha Hasabnis (of Saathiya fame) are wild card entries to Bigg Boss 8. That rumour was so unbelievable that it was dispelled by the same evening itself.

Couple of articles saying that ST has auditioned both San and DD for his next show on SP .. am not sure how I feel about that one. Am not too impressed with ST ... he seems to have too much of a hangover of BW from the 80's. And San did say she won't be working with ST in her next ... unless he has come up with this show after that statement. Anyway, this is just the beginning of the rumors.

http://www.tellytadka.net/bff-sanaya-irani-drashti-dhami-approached-saurabh-tewaris-next/
Love the pics with the article ... I've liked DD since her DMG days, although I haven't watched either Geet or Madhubala .

Good thing is, seems that San's next show is likely to be on Star Plus, judging by the articles. At least I hope so.

http://www.tellychakkar.com//tv/features/actresses-who-should-make-comeback-the-small-screen-141026
Agree with this one completely ... want Sanaya back soon! Actually, this time I don't mind waiting for a few months ... would like her to take a slightly longer break and make sure everything is well in place in her next show, including her own character sketch. But I would like some confirmation soon ... the show itself can wait a few more months. And I want the ML and FL to be announced together ... no swayamvar for San this time. The buzz should be about the show and the characters and the story.

Random articles, which I missed posting here, due to lack of time and my travels.

Another article on Sanaya being approached for Saurabh Tiwari's next show on Star Plus. While I'm glad that Sanaya is in talks for an SP show, I'm a little apprehensive about ST. He tends to give much more time and attention to his male leads, and not enough to his female leads, he has a big hangover of BW of the 80s, and he doesn't do justice to the love story from the female POV ... or he didn't in Rangrasiya. Plus his execution was all over the place in RR ... maybe due to channel pressure he was forced to change his story line multiple times ... but it's left me with an unfavorable impression of the man. Also he has another new show just launching, the Sony one ... so his attention will be divided ... although that one is launching in November, so hopefully he can concentrate on the SP one after the Sony one is safely on air.

So let's see ... he's obviously a good producer for his actors, San loves him ... so will have to wait and see what decision she makes.

http://www.india-forums.com/tellybuzz/buzzin-hot/22401-sanaya-irani-approached-for-saurabh-tewari-next-on-star-plus.htm

Sanaya Irani approached for Saurabh Tewari's next on Star Plus?

Saurabh Tewari has his hands full with two upcoming shows on Sony TV and Star Plus, his leading lady Sanaya Irani has been approached for the next venture on Star Plus.

After Saurabh Tewari's Rangrasiya on Colors did some wonders with its star cast and the plot of the show and as we have reported about this noted producer's upcoming show Do Deewane Ek Shehar Mein on Sony TV starring Mohit Sehgal and a new comer, we update you with Saurabh Tewari's next on the leading channel Star Plus.
We heard that Saurabh's leading ladies Drashti Dhami and Sanaya Irani have been approached to play the lead in his show. Well to start off with Sanaya Irani who was seen as Paro - Myrah in Rangrasiya has been associated with Saurabh Tewari since the show began and having earlier worked with the channel Star Plus for Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon? it seems Sanaya is in the talks for the show.
Drashti too has been approached and also gave a look test for the show as she has worked with Saurabh in Madhubala - Ek Ishq Ek Junoon under Nautanki Films' banner.
Our source informs, "Yes, Saurabh Tewari is coming up with new show on Star Plus for which Sanaya Irani and Drashti Dhami have been approached to play the lead role. However, Drashti is out of the project because of the monetary issues and talks are still on between Sanaya and the production house."
We also got to know that the upcoming show Do Deewane Ek Shehar Mein on Sony TV will air from 17th November onwards.
We tried calling Saurabh Tewari but he remained unavailable.
Keep reading this space for latest updates!

Other Shows and Movies

Missed most of my TV watching this week with the Diwali celebrations and house guests.

Heard that there was a major fire in the Sakinaka area where YHM and KKB are shot ... Ekta's sets ... the wardrobe section for many of her shows was completely gutted. This is the same area where Rangrasiya used to be shot, till they moved out because the sets were leaking too badly to shoot, and there was a fire hazard with all the live wires lying around. The PHs really need to beef up the safety standards in these places. Fortunately no one was hurt this time, but they can't be so lucky every time.

Managed to watch a couple of episodes of

Ajeeb Dastaan Hai Yeh ... acting is not that great, Apurva is an average actor, and so is Sonali ... the screenplay is a little spotty ... but the story is engaging as of now.

KBC was nice ... the special episode with the HNY cast was a fun watch. After that, caught the CNWK HNY special, enjoyed parts of it, till Daadi came in ... the cross dressing on the show really gets my goat. Slapstick, vulgar and stupid.

TV is really boring these days!

First reviews of Happy New Year have come in ... all are critical. Sounds like the usual brainless senseless masala comedy. Will wait for the DVD.

Also planning to watch Bang Bang and Haider on DVD ... missed the movies in the theater. Bang Bang to be watched solely for eye candy!

Sanaya, Mohit, Karan Tacker, Vivian D'Sena and Vahbiz in London after the AVTAs ... meant to make this a single post with the awards night, but there are so many beautiful pics of the awards night, and lovely ones of these people holidaying, that I couldn't fit them into one post.

I love this pic, so this goes on top ... San is looking so fresh and pretty here, like a college girl!
