22/4 - Epi 17 ... Underhand Tricks and Allergy Tablets

Monday 22nd April

Manthan sneaks on Manav ... yeh kaisi family hai bhai?

Uma Ben has no intention of letting her DILs join any computer classes whatsoever ... however she's stuck in them herself.

Chhanchhan getting her dogs ready for the party ... Puch Puch was the star of the episode That dog sits like a toy dog ... mine was so jumpy!!!

Manav decides to attend Puch Puch's party ... only for Himanshu's sake, of course. Himanshu is not fooled, of course.
Chhanchhan is sorry Manav can't attend the party ... because his friend will be lonely without him, of course. Chhanchhan's friends are not really fooled, of course.

Chhanchhan buys allergy tablets.
Manav wants allergy tablets.
Chhanchhan returns allergy tablets.
Manav buys allergy tablets.
And I didn't even know pet shops sold allergy tablets ROFL

Chhanchhan's family and friends are getting more and more amused about Chhanchhan's sudden concern for Manav and his allergies.

And Uma Ben is getting more and more suspicious about Manav's new found love for dogs, and new found 'old friends' ROFL

*edit later*

  1. Thanks Dia for your daily posts. They are making the show more enjoyable.
I always have a grin on my face while watching episodes, Sanaya is right, they have managed to make us smile with ChhanChhan.
Also, enjoyed her short interview with Nooren Khan today. As usual she was articulate and sure what she wants and is doing. Her reasoning for choosing this show is very sound. How the show will fare, time will tell, but she is doing a fab job. I really don't see any elements of Khushi in her, she has successfully created another persona. She sounded thrilled to work with Supriya P :))

I am still curious to know what UB's husband is all about and would like to see more of CC's sister.

    1. Uma, thanks! :)))
I was thinking exactly the same last night ... every episode leaves me smiling. I was discussing with Appy ... this show reminds me of SGP ... there too, the family sitcom was the USP of the show ... they kept it light hearted for the most part, but they had some very nice tracks which were dealt with seriously and very well. The SuShaan romance was never the main theme ... and the male lead there too was weak, Ragini was the better actress by far. Although here I think Sanaya is WAY better than Ragini, Ragini is a great comic actress, but she tended to be very loud. Sanaya is much more controlled, and she is making an effort to be even more so.

And agree completely ... Sanaya has completely shaken off Khushi, I don't see even a trace of Khushi in Chhanchhan. She is doing a fantastic job, and I'm really waiting for the scenes between her and Supriya P, I think they will be really good. Sanaya seems to be really looking forward to that part of the show to start ... that is obviously the main story, and what prompted her to take up the show.

UB's husband ... now here is where I hope it does go somewhat like Khubsoorat ... CC becomes close to Babuji, unknown to UB, and that's how CC starts overturning the rules. Have a feeling that none of the sons are particularly happy with their wives ... Manthan barely glanced at his wife today, we already know that there was some problem between Babuji and the eldest son ... so there is lots more to come.
I liked CC's sister too ... in fact, the entire supporting cast is good, and it is nice watching them all on screen.

    1. Listening to this, I felt a bit sad for Sanaya ... and a lot of admiration and respect for her all over again. She is obviously struggling to come out of the IPK shadow as much as Barun is, even more so ... as he has left the telly world and she is very much in it still. And the shadow of IPK and their iconic pair hangs long and deep over her. A man is forgiven so much, especially if he is handsome ... and especially by women. Barun left the show to follow his own dreams, and that has been justified a thousand times over ... Sanaya stuck to the show through thick and thin, was loyal and committed and gave it her best, even when everything was going down ... and she is criticized for being upset at the sudden shutdown, for wanting to go on without him, for even daring to think Khushi could romance another guy. Or rather, she is criticized and bashed ... full stop. No reason really needed ... except that Barun was bashed, so hey, let's bash Sanaya! And the extreme haste to rush in and judge the show and condemn it straight off, just shows that same mindset.

So yes, a very sensible decision ... try to stay as far from comparisons with the previous show as possible ... different genre, no attempt to recreate chemistry, iconic or otherwise ... this is a show about two women, Chhanchhan and Uma Ben, and Chhanchhan's life in the Borisagar family. Romance is just a part ... a very small part. And although on first look, the characters are similar, as soon as you look closer, they are very different ... or as different as Sanaya can possible make them.

Sanaya loves Supriya already ... she enjoys acting with good actors ... all good actors enjoy working with other good actors, they enhance their own work.
The show is mainly about what happens after Chhanchhan comes into the house and her tashan with Uma Ben. And she makes it very clear that the show is mainly about her and Uma Ben ... not about her and Manav.
I think Sanaya is enjoying playing Chhanchhan a lot ... she didn't enjoy Khushi, the character as much. Especially not the OTT parts ... and by the end, Khushi was very OTT ... the makers destroyed her completely.

Farhan ... comparison with Barun, they gelled from the start ... Farhan is new. And she's very clear that she's not looking to recreate any chemistry ... this is NOT a love story. And that's where I did feel bad ... this was a very deliberate choice to try to shake off the hysteria of the IPK time and its bitter ending. She knows that huge shadow is there, that big burden of the SaRun pair ... people still think that no pair can be better ... so rather than fight a losing battle, at least so soon after the ending, when the pair is still very fresh in the viewers' minds ... it was better to do something completely different, to shake off the SaRun tag. However long this show lasts, after this she will move to a new show as 'Chhanchhan', and not as 'Khushi, part of ArHi'.
Which is quite a sad commentary on such a good show ... that the ending left everyone with so much bitterness. Hope Chhanchhan can wipe out those memories .. so again ... here's hoping the show picks up and does well. It is already succeeding in doing one thing Sanaya promised ... bringing a smile to my face ... every episode leaves me smiling.

    1. True, Appy ... for Sanaya's sake, I hope Chhanchhan does well ... I am not all that bothered about TRPs as long as I enjoy it, I normally don't like the high TRP shows anyway :))) but only for her sake, I hope the TRPs improve.
I am starting to get positive vibes about it now, to be honest. The first two weeks were a bit iffy, but it does seem to be settling down ... and I have to say, so does Farhan. I'm enjoying it now. The Uma Ben-family scenes are good, and those are the forte of this PH. Once the marriage happens, I think things will pick up even more.

I think all the cast has moved on, they have all gotten recognition from the show for sure. Almost everyone has bagged new roles ... I see Piyumori (Garima) on the new SP show too.

    1. Appy, true, IPK was magical ... I sometimes wish it was still on ... but all good things come to an end, I guess.

I have consciously stayed away from watching too many vm's and old scenes, also because I wanted to avoid comparison between IPK and CC ... but now that CC has settled down, and Sanaya is completely Chhanchhan, I can watch the old scenes ... Khushi and Chhanchhan are two totally different people now for me. So the last marriage scene of IPK is the end for me.

  6. Dia, I was not planning to bring it up, but now that you have mentioned a bit about bias, I want to vent a bit. I was appalled yesterday, how Sanaya's interview was misconstrued by some to call her unprofessional and using Barun's name to promote her show! Hope none of the cast will be asked about each other or IPK anymore...I know easy said than done. After so many months and after all the interviews clearing the air, some people continue to tear each other down and no one is spared- Barun, Sanaya, Gul, LM, and the list goes on. Good thing is the cast and crew are supportive of each other.
Despite these negatives, IPK has given all of them popularity and visibility, most have shows or films in hand. The only person I have not heard anything about is Daljeet. The Dubai play got so much attention because of IPK(I was delighted to read that many who went to see the play missed Sanaya- the "live wire" ;)) Raju Singh, the music director's interview was uploaded by Team Sarun today.
I join you guys in hoping that the IPK team find success in whatever they do next.

    2. Uma,
Tell me about it!!!! I wanted to write far more strongly myself ... but am consciously trying to put the entire mess behind, and forget about it. But I can really understand what Sanaya and the rest of the cast must have gone through ... especially Sanaya, because she was the other half of the jodi, she was equally responsible for the success ... as it is, she never got her due share of credit at the time, and whenever she attempts to clear the air, or even express her views, she gets all these comments. Not that I have read any myself, I stay away from all those threads, but I can guess from your reaction and some others I saw. Some fans are really the lowest of the low ... and like I said, the fact that they are women themselves, makes it worse!!!

Anyway, my bigger satisfaction is that we have our sunshine girl back on our screen, plus we have the pleasure of knowing that she is at the top of her field, and is finally getting the recognition she always deserved. It really is time IPK was laid to rest ... although I always find it really sweet that the cast still is such good friends and so supportive of each other.

I loved reading the reports about missing Sanaya at the play ... am sure she would have livened up the proceedings many times over! She is such a spontaneous, lively personality ... Sunshine Girl!!! IPK has been good for all of them, it has given them all a lot, but I am happiest for Sanaya, that she has gotten her fair share of recognition, even though belatedly. However well or badly Chhanchhan fares, she has made it to the A-list of TV actresses ... for a girl who had to struggle so much because her extraordinary looks actually overshadowed her talent for so long, that itself is satisfaction enough. Am so happy to see her back on screen ... brightens my day!
