29/7 - Epi 41 ... Unconsciously possessive

29th July Friday
Unconsciously possessive ... both of them. He, as he takes the pooja thaali from her hand, she gives it reluctantly, avoiding his eyes, and he deliberately touches her hand as he takes it, making her look up, forcing her to meet his eyes. And as he hands the thaali to Lavanya, he doesn't even look at her, leave alone touching her hand - his eyes are still fixed on Khushi as he steps back to stand behind her again. And their eyes meet again, as though he's forcing her by the strength of his look to meet his eyes. And she can't help it either, she looks up at him briefly, before his look confuses her yet again, and she looks away, unable to meet the heat in his eyes, unable to understand what it's doing to her. She hated him, right? So what is happening right now? Because it's not hate she feels ...

And when La forces Arnav to break her fast, forces him to feed her, it's Khushi's turn to burn, to stare at him angrily ... as though to ask, how could you?! Forgetting that she has no right to ask that question, because it seems to BE her right ... And it's Arnav's turn to stare back, almost apologetically ... but why should he be apologetic? He doesn't know ... as La moves to kiss him, and he looks directly at Khushi, seeing her attack some blameless innocent matches, her face petulant, annoyed ... he can't look away, he knows she didn't like it, hell, he didn't like La kissing him either ...  doesn't she know that?

Iss pyaar ko kya naam doon? They don't know what's happening between them, all they know is that something is. And that looking at each other is a necessity, a need ... even as it increases their restlessness in tandem with their heartbeats.

The rest of the episode seemed straight out of a Bollywood movie of the 80's ... half expected Anjali to break into a dialogue like Amitabh Bacchan to Shiv-Parvati ... khush toh tum bahut hoge aaj ...
And Shyam is her husband ... but of course.

What I didn't expect - Khushi forgot her thaali and comes back to the temple to get it. What does she see?

28/7 - Epi 40 ... All about symbolism

28th July 2011- Thursday

All about symbolism ... Arnav breaking Khushi's fast, although inadvertantly ... symbolising that whether they want it or not, whether they realise it or not, Arnav and Khushi are bound to each other. This is probably what Sanaya was talking about in the segments ... the inadvertant breaking of the fast, symbolising that Arnav is Khushi's future husband.
And the second piece of symbolism ... Khushi returning Anjali's thali to her ... saying that this was your amanat, how could I have kept it, I had to bring it back to you.

So starts with Arnav carrying Khushi ... thankfully the bit about the standing faint was minimal ...
Payal returns the thali ... Anjali asks her to stay and light the diyas with them, much to Akash's delight, and Mami's and La's annoyance.

Arnav breaks Khushi's fast with water ... this bit was beautifully done ... the way he says her name in a worried tone. When Khushi is unconscious, Arnav feels no need to hide his concern and worry ... but as soon as she recovers, he dons his mask quickly. And the breaking the fast bit was beautifully done - as he holds the glass to her lips, his other arm protectively around her back, the conch shells and temple bells sound in the background ...a jodi meant to be, sanctioned by Shiva-Parvati in their own temple ...

but Khushi is not grateful at all *lol* ... she's most worried how could she break her fast before the puja ... and as usual she blasts Arnav. The face off in the guesthouse definitely changed equations completely ... also she's no longer working for him ... so now every time they meet, it's as equals ...

And Arnav doesn't hold back either - he's indignant, can't believe it, she's misunderstanding him yet again! You were unconscious, woman! What was I supposed to do? and I didn't even know you were fasting ...
Khushi doesn't think that's good enough, she takes off and apologises to Devi maiyya that she broke her fast inadvertantly, making it clear to the listening Arnav that she's still blaming him *rofl* ... then walks off in a huff, spoiled by the fact that she staggers and almost faints again. And apna hero is waiting for just this ... he grabs her again, pulls her close, and she's lost again ... but he's angry ... 'learn to walk two steps before you shoot your mouth off.' And he doesn't back off ... stays very close, eyes firmly unblinking on her, as though to tell her he will support her if she needs it, and there's nothing she can do about it. Asserting his authority on her ... without even realising what he's doing. But she does realise dimly what he's saying, what he's doing ... finally, slowly, she backs away, he doesn't stop her, just waits, not looking at her. She looks away, disurbed, confused by the turmoil raging inside her ... and without looking at him, she walks away. Only then does he raise his gaze to look at her. As though wondering ... why can I not let her go? Why,when she is hurt, upset, does it hurt me? Why do her words hurt me?

The next bit was again beautifully done ... and kudos to the actors, especially Sanaya, for the confusion in her face all through, the stolen glances, Khushi's worried, confused, Arnav's mask back in place, but even he couldn't help the looks ... and every time they looked at each other almost at the same time, as though they knew when the other was looking. When Anjali cajoles Khushi into staying, Khushi protests, Arnav stands at a distance, pretending not to listen. Khushi looks at him, as though checking his response, but he's not looking and she's still confused as to what to do. And then Payal agrees, and Khushi can't do anything, but she looks at Arnav yet again, and this time, he's looking back at her, and there is absolutely no anger in his eyes at all .. just an unfamiliar softness. And she looks away again hurriedly ...and doesn't protest again ...

Anjali still worried about missing husband, Arnav tries to call him, husband answers phone and says he's close by. Shyam calls Khushi and tells her she and Payal should leave the temple soon.
Pooja ... Arnav standing behind Khushi, Khushi very aware of him, his gaze keeps flitting to her ...

And Anjali still waiting for hubby.
Tomorrow will be the unveiling of hubby ... in all probability, it is Shyam.

27/7 - Epi 39 ... Khushi faints ...

27 July 2011 Wednesday

So the whole episode was basically a lead up to the meeting of Khushi and Arnav in the temple, and also of course, the unveiling of Shyam's real identity to the viewers - have a feeling neither the Raizadas nor the Guptas will come to know the two faces of Shyam ... that is presuming Shyam is actually Anjali's husband, and the cv's are not going to throw a googly at the last minute. Don't think so - maybe the unveiling was delayed to allow the actor to recover from his leg injury or something.
Anyway, the mix up about the thali - again, I like the attention to detail, even yesterday, Khushi complained that her thali was heavy, today she does it again, Payal picks it up and realises Khushi's right, and they see that it's Anjali's thali. Since it seems to be a silver thali, they decide to return it to Anjali before carrying on for their own puja - so Shyam's careful plotting to direct them to a different temple comes to naught. Only he finds out about it as they hail the same auto, so Shyam has to delay his own trip to the temple.

Meantime, Anjali has discovered that her thali has gone missing and is as usual very perturbed ... Arnav says he's get her another silver one, and Lame makes an entry in white sari with one shoulder blouse. Liked the Arnav Anjali interactions here - both look at La, then at each other, Arnav as if to say "di? Really?!" and Anjali shrugs apologetically as though to reply, 'well, I tried my best'! And Arnav is actually kind to La, doesn't tell her what a fool she's looking!
And then he goes off to order the thali, just as Khushi and Payal enter the temple ... and Arnav forgets all about La, thali and everything else as he stares at Khushi ... and she gazes back ... he is lost, she is disbelieving, then as lost ... Payal breaks the moment, but Khushi doesn't want to go up and risk meeting Arnav again, not in her current very confused state of mind, so Payal says she'll return the thali while Khushi looks at bangles.

And Khushi looks again where Arnav was, but he's gone ... so she starts to climb the stairs still looking out for him, but telling herself that she doesn't want to meet him, puzzling why he's even here, when he doesn't believe in God ... then she starts feeling dizzy again, sways ... Arnav hadn't gone too far away and as Khushi was looking out for him without wanting to, so was he ... so he sees her sway ... forgets about his phone call again as his entire attention is caught by Khushi, this time with concern ... then he does a sprint worthy of Superman, jumping over steps etc to reach her just in time as she sways, drops her thali in very filmy style, and falls ... just in time for Arnav to catch her hand ...

The last bit actually ruined the entire moment for me ... WHAT was all that Matrix-type fall-that-wasn't-a-fall about? And who faints in a standing position?! And why does Arnav have to start admiring Khushi when she faints, instead of picking her up immediately?! So the last bit was really silly ... wish they'd gone straight to him pulling her close and lifting her up ...

26/7 - Epi 38 ... Why can't I stop thinking about him/her?

26th July Tuesday

And what's this about getting married? Zillions of segments all about Arnav and Khushi getting married during the Teej celebrations ...

And yippee - IPKKND enters top 10 :) Considering that the top shows include the likes of Balika Vadhu and YRKKH, am not sure how great that is in terms of quality, but it's great for Sanaya, for Barun (liking the guy more and more every day after the fun SBS etc segments) and for the show ... so good going! Also, I feel the makers are treading a balance between catering to the youth and to the regular SP audience, with the regular family scenes - the families on both sides here are nice to watch, (unlike Navya, where Anant's family makes me want to puke) ... the characters are relatable because they are not black or white - Arnav's nani is a strict matriarch, wanting the best for the family, and not wanting Arnav to repeat the mistakes of his father, but she's not a villain, neither is Mami or Bua - they have their idiosyncrasies, but they are not the typical vamps that most shows have. And all the actors are good, and the leads, Sanaya and Barun are great! Especially Sanaya ... which is so important for any show, Indian shows are mostly female-dominated, and if the heroine can't act, the show loses its charm ... case in point, Manzil and Navya ...

21/7 - Epi 35 ... Skeletons in the closet

21st July Thursday

The skeletons in the Raizada family closet starting to tumble out? Not only in the Raizada house but also relating to Shyam.
And the clash of wills between Arnav and Naani ... will it really lead to his moving out?
Anjali is a soppy character - does nothing but puja-paath and shed tears.

20th July - Epi 34 ... Restlessness, confusion, upset

20th July Wednesday

Both restless, both confused ... something is not right ... but what is it exactly that's wrong?

Edited -
After watching Wednesday's episode, I realised why I wasn't 100% convinced by Khushi's outburst on Tuesday. It was because Khushi herself wasn't convinced of what she was saying ... Khushi, not Sanaya. Sanaya played it beautifully ... her outburst last Monday in the guesthouse had all the passion of the moment and one could feel the emotions spilling forth, the anger, the despair, the hate for ASR that had accumulated slowly during her hours of confinement in the guesthouse wondering whether she would make it out alive ... all of it was there in her fiery reaction. But on Tuesday, it was forced. Because Khushi didn't want to do what she was doing - she was handing in her resignation because of her loved ones, her sister and her parents, her bua ... because of their pressure. Left to herself, she would not have given up, she would have gone back to work, head held high, to show ASR - you even tried to kill me, yet here I am ...

But the fear and worry of Payal and her parents changed her mind - she had to change her mind, she had no choice, for her, her family and their peace of mind comes first, so she said she would resign. Her own pride didn't want her to at all. And that internal battle was what made her fire up at ASR's completely innocent question, and take off on such a long spiel ... at every step she seemed to be waiting for him to reply, to shut her up the way he always does, to challenge her back, so that she could have some excuse, any excuse, to say, okay, you're telling me I'm a loser? Fine, I'll prove you wrong, I'll stay.

But he didn't. He waited for her to run out of steam, then asked, are you done? And held out his hand for the letter. And she had no option left but to hand it over. And as she left, she turned as though to question him, is that really it? Are you really letting me go?

So somewhere deep inside, Khushi is starting to feel that same strange tug that Arnav has started to feel. Not love, by a long way, not even attraction yet ... but the feeling that he is a part of her life, and will be for a long time ...

And that's why all through her walk back, she wonders, why is this not right? I should be overjoyed, I told him everything that was in my heart, I yelled at him, I threw my resignation in his face, I should be happy, it is my victory ... then why is feeling so hollow? Why am I not happy? Why do I feel something is very wrong?

Arnav - Barun is not as good an actor as Sanaya, plus he has less dialogues, the only way to get his feelings is through his interactions with Anjali, but here goes. Why was Arnav silent? Well, he just spent the night agonising over the fact that due to him Khushi nearly lost her life. If he hadn't reached in time, he would have been responsible for anything that happened to her. Anjali had already jolted his conscience into unwilling action by asking why are you doing this to her? What has she done to you? And he doesn't know what Khushi has done. Why is she so successful in getting under his skin? Is it because she reminds of himself at a younger age, when he was equally vulnerable, equally idealistic? Does he want to crush her because his ideals were crushed out of him, and he wants to prove to himself that it wasn't his fault he changed, it wasn't a weakness to change, it was necessary? So Khushi not changing, hanging on to her ideals shows him that no, he's wrong, he was weak to change, and she is stronger than him. And mixed with that, a reluctant admiration, getting stronger every day ... and helped by the fact that Khushi is a beautiful young girl ... maybe he's at the stage when he wants her to lose, yet hopes she won't ...

He did try to stop her, to say something, to justify himself, but Khushi was in full flow ... so he let her let it out. Because he realised that she needed to vent ... he had piled abuse on abuse on her and she had taken it all quietly ... now the dam had burst and the floods were raging forth. Better to let the storm spend its fury ... and restart the battle another day. That's why when she wound up, he just asked, are you done? And she said yes, I'm done.

Slate wiped clean. We start again. Afresh. Anew. This time as equals. No talk about aukat, haisiyat, pedigree, status ... this is between you and me. Khushi. And Arnav Singh Raizada.

Maybe the next step will be the battle between Khushi and Arnav. Or maybe between Khushi and Arnav on one side, and ASR on the other. I think Khushi's team will have Anjali on it by then, although right now, Anjali is merely wondering. Though how and why Anjali wants Lavanya to fast for Arnav is beyond me at the moment.

*Edit* .. the part I loved about Wednesday's episode- Arnav and Khushi holding the beads and the mannat ki chaabi respectively ... each holding something belonging to the other. Although they have parted ways today, the saga has started, they each hold a part of the other within their hearts now, and the tangible objects won't let them forget that. However much they both try to pretend otherwise - Arnav vehemently and repeatedly denying to Anjali that Khushi means anything to him, and Khushi telling Payal that she wants to meet ASR again only to blow up some more.

19/7 - Epi 33 ... Khushi blasts off

19th July Tuesday

What I remember of the episode is only the Khushi Arnav scene where Khushi finally let loose all her frustrations of the last few days, working night and day, facing humiliation and jeers, doing jobs outside her job description as a parking attendant of all things, and finally endangering her life ... all because Arnav Singh Raizada could not stand to lose a challenge. And Arnav listened quietly ... and at the end all he asked was - are you done?

And she said - yes, I'm done ... thrust the letter into his hand and left. Reluctantly. No she wasn't done ... not by a long shot. There was so much more she wanted to say, there was more she wanted to listen to ... wasn't he going to say anything? Anything at all? And wait a moment, why was she even wondering that? Why did she want him to say anything? Why did this victory seem so hollow? Why was something inside her telling her this was not what she wanted to do?

And so as she left slowly, she looked back - to see him looking at her steadily (pity that Barun's expressions have not improved to the extent that I can read them, so I'm just going to put in what I feel he should have felt) ... looking at her with anger, mixed with ... was it guilt? regret?

Liked the way she spoke to Nani ... very politely and softly, yet firmly, unyielding still ... I'm sorry you had to witness this, but it was something I had to do ...

And with Anjali, as Anjali, ever the peace-maker rushed after her, to say - maybe you misunderstood my brother, he's not as bad as you think he is ... but Khushi stood firm ... I'm sorry, but I said what I had to say, what I felt was right.

And Khushi was right in her place ... Arnav Singh Raizada had everything on his side - his power, his position, and he used it all, most unfairly ... As Khushi said, in one of her most hard-hitting comments, with power comes responsibility, you cannot abdicate responsibility for your actions which endangered a human life - and you did not even once acknowledge that you made a mistake, leave alone apologise ... And she places more value on her life, as do her loved ones, to place money and a contract above it ...

Rest of the episode was about Buaji worshipping Shyam and asking about his matrimonial prospects - after the ArShi scene and the small Anjali-Khushi scene, the rest was forgettable ...

Khushi was not feeling happy with what happened, that's for sure. She doesn't know why yet, all she knows is that she didn't feel the satisfaction she expected after her blasting. Even though Arnav actually heard her out.

Arnav is not happy either. But his feelings are more difficult to gauge ... he only has anger on his face. Is it ASr, or is it anger at himself, anger mixed with guilt and remorse which he doesn't want to feel? For a girl who is unimportant, but whom he can't get out of his mind ...

18/7 - Epi 32 ... Not the bimbos' day for sure!!!

Mon 18th July episode

Am enjoying IPKKND a lot now ... the episodes are well-paced, well thought out and the story is progressing slowly and steadily. And am so glad that the CV's are not getting caught in the demands for Arshi scenes, but are playing them out as per demand of the storyline. Right now it is slow and steady character development, putting all the pieces into place, and little by little, building a picture of each character, as well as their interlinks. Loving it!
So starts with Khushi with her family, where Khushi's strength of character is slowly building, her resilience after her near death experience ... she's far stronger than Payal and it shows very clearly. And also, Khushi is in no hurry to go back to Lucknow. Even though she doesn't quite know why. Shyam creeps me out again, with his very obviously wanting to wipe the cream of Khushi's lips ... uurrgggghhhh!!!! Lech!!!

Then in office, Arnav strides in, hears Lame and bimbo duo giggling over Chamkili, and blasts them - NOT in a loud voice!!! A cold, deadly telling off ... Then he asks Lame for the calendar ... hmm, interesting, so he does remember. Lame tries to sweet talk him, then asks about Nani's reactions, he bites her nose off, and she unwisely mutters something about Chamkili. So he tells her icily that he doesn't want to hear that name again - she's Khushi Kumari Gupta and they had better remember it! Lame furious.

Khushi enters, has flashbacks of Arnav holding her hand and pulling her to her feet in the guesthouse, and then the way he grabbed her wrists ... Then mentally girds herself and enters, resignation letter in hand. Arnav gets a call from Mami about Anjali's fall, he rushes out - near-miss Arnav-Khushi scene.
Khushi looking for Arnav, fires the bimbo trio, leaving them all pretty speechless. And again ... no raised voice, just crisp, clear telling off. NOT the bimbos' day for sure! *rofl*

Anjali fainted because of her never-ending fasts - I like the girl, but she's just too sugary sweet! Get a life, woman! Liked the family scene - mami and her one-liners are hilarious - controversial khaana, arrowbaazi ... and the genuine concern of all for Anjali ... including Arnav's when he comes striding in.
And the last scene between Arnav-Anjali was nice ... when she says she's unable to handle both Arnav's and nani's anger and misses her parents, and Arnav is about to reply sharply when he sees her tears and stops himself. And tells her she is both his parents for him.

Precap - Khushi has come to Arnav's house? To give her resignation? And he doesn't seem angry ... at all. Tomorrow will be interesting!

15/7 - Epi 31 ... Well matched

15th July

While watching tonight's episode, all I felt was that Arnav and Khushi are very well matched indeed. And when they get together, it's going to be a clash of equals ... well, it's already that anyway.

Mostly - in fact, almost all the times, when the topic of marriage comes up and all the 'seeing' of girls etc, starts, I always wonder, why doesn't the guy just speak up and say directly that he doesn't want? And to my surprise and pleasure, that was exactly what Arnav did today ... he could have been politer, of course, but with as determined a woman as his Nani, he probably knew that nothing short of a roadroller would get the point across. So he provided it. And he's quite right - she still hasn't given up!

On the other side, the whole family - Buaji and Payal, anyway - are going on at Khushi to leave her job, and Khushi, although she does listen and understand their point, sticks to her own decision of going in to work. If only to give in her resignation. And she is able to convince Payal about it in a way that Payal can't refute.

What I absolutely did NOT like ... how dare Shyam enter Khushi's room, especially while she's getting ready? And how can Buaji allow him? This is totally overstepping boundaries. He is a paying guest at best ... I was able to tolerate him earlier, but am getting more and more annoyed with him now. He's getting slimier and slimier.

Was hoping we'd get a glimpse of Khushi entering office, but the episode ended at Khushi's determination. CV's are really keeping us dangling for Arnav-Khushi scenes ... and they really make the show. Like SG scenes, they will be released slowly, like gold nuggets. Although we did get a great dose on Monday and Tuesday :) Just makes me want more ... Sanaya and Barun are doing a great job and their chemistry is just crackling! When they're on screen, I want the scene to never end!

Precap also didn't give away anything - only about Anjali and Arnav discussing their past and their parents.

14/7 - Epi 30 ... What you see is not what I feel

Thursday 14th July

Yes, of course Khushi making jalebis ... very disturbed. But why? Usually she makes jalebis when she has messed up things and she's angry with herself ... so why is she upset with herself this time? Because she's dreaming about ASR ... ASR saving her? He's a rakshas, he's mean, wicked, evil ... so why is she dreaming about the way he rescued her, about their confrontation, the way he broke her bangle unknowingly and then released her the moment he realised? Why is she dreaming about him touching her face so softly? Did he actually do that?

Buaji and Payal know her quirk, but Shyam is foxed ... he actually gets her to stop ... after a lot of trying. And Buaji thinks he's ideal for Khushi ... yuckkk, I was hoping Buaji would matchmake for her favourite niece, Payal, but turns out she's fond of Khushi as well. Now I really hope Shyam is Anjali's husband, at least he's out of the running as Khushi's match. Although we know that Shyam is going to be a haddi in the Arshi love story for some time to come :(((

Arnav Anjali - Anjali knows her brother inside out, yet even she can't fathom WHY he's behaved the way he has to Khushi. And the strangest part to Arnav is ... neither can he. He doesn't even know why he's been so mean to Khushi all along, why she has gotten under his skin to such an extent. And he can't admit as much to Anjali ... although she does know. Knows also that he's fretting about Khushi, so she calls Khushi's home (I really like the way the cv's are covering small details, like how Anjali knows Khushi's phone number - it just took one line of dialogue) ... and Arnav listens while pretending carefully not to.

Anjali tells Nani about Arnav's night escapade, that he wasn't with Lavanya at all, Nani is relieved but decides to do something about it. So - 'rishta' for Arnav. Does nani really think he will agree?

And here Buaji is talking to Khushi's babuji about a 'rishta' for Khushi - Shyam. Yuckkkk.

Buaji and Payal are determined that Khushi will not go back to work. Khushi is equally determined that she will.

13/7 - Epi 29 ... Mystery and mush

13th July

Mostly mush ... Arnav thinking about Khushi, while his family is firmly convinced he is heartbroken about Nani's disapproval of Lavanya as his bride.

On the other side, Khushi wakes up dreaming of Arnav touching her.

Shyam wants her to leave her job. Quite a wimp - he did absolutely nothing to find her, yet becomes all macho and goonda when getting the doctor. And Bua begins to wonder about his intentions towards Khushi.
Bua worried about Khushi was sweet to see ... though a bit of a volte face considering she's been taunting Khushi all through for being adopted. Oh well, maybe that was the natural reaction to seeing Payal's marriage being broken off. Khushi tells them about how she was stuck in the site, but doesn't mention that ASR rescued her. She asks how she came home, and Payal says ASR brought her. Buaji is worried about 'anything' having happened, Khushi reassures her.

And Arnav thinks about Khushi again ... goes to speak to Nani, and clarifies that he will not leave Lavanya, but he has no intention of marrying her either, because he doesn't believe in love or marriage. And there the past surfaces finally - as Nani says something about his parents, and he silences her abruptly.

Anjali worried, brings him his dinner, and tries to pry out what's eating him ... again he mentions Khushi. And then denies that he is thinking about her. And Anjali is totally confused as to where Khushi keeps popping into the picture when they're discussing Lavanya.

Buaji, Payal and Shyam worried about Khushi's silence. And then they hear noise from the kitchen ... lolzzz, Khushi making jalebis again. Disturbed about Arnav?
Precap - Payal doesn't want Khushi to return to work. Khushi says she has to because of the one lakh clause.

Part 1 HD
Part 2 HD

Analysis ... Arnav is lost in thoughts of Khushi. Although the major part of his feelings still are guilt and regret, which he doesn't want to express even to himself, it would be stupid to think that he would feel the same degree of guilt had Khushi been an old hag or even an ordinary able bodied worker. The fact that she's a beautiful young woman has a lot to do with the strength of his feelings. And he is slowly beginning to acknowledge to himself that she has been constantly standing up to the challenges he has been throwing at her, challenges which have been unfair in the extreme, as Payal pointed out, just to boost his own ego and make sure he didn't lose to a slip of a girl, one moreover who he was convinced was on the lookout for a meal ticket. And the hint shown today about his past, revealed a few things - Arnav is not in love with Lavanya, he doesn't believe in love - or marriage. And the reason for his loss of faith is what happened with his parents.
Also, he isn't in love with Khushi either. Although she has this inconvenient habit of occupying his thoughts.

So the story starts to take shape ... mainly mush today, but that little hint of mystery was good enough to take it forward a step. And what's the hurry, this show is here to stay ... it's nice if we get these detailed scenes of the slow change in his feelings.

And in Khushi's ... till now, Arnav was big bad boss, and that was all. But there was a change tonight. Why didn't she mention that he was the one who has rescued her? Was it because Payal and Buaji already knew it - because he had brought her home? Or was it because she was as lost in the events of the night as Arnav was, the seesawing of emotions that she had gone through, the fear, the despair, then the sudden surge of hope, which found its release in anger ... and the knowledge that for the first time, that anger had not provoked an answering anger in him, but had brought forth something else entirely ... which she didn't even remember consciously.

Arnav and Khushi's next meeting should be delicious ... and the best part is that the actors are capable of expressing that myriad of emotions they will have to convey. Really looking forwad to how the cv's ... and the actors ... take this ahead.

12/7 - Epi 28 ... Recriminations and regret ... dreamy episode

12th July

So after the high voltage drama of yesterday, there was a sudden change in pace and mood ... swinging from nafrat to mohabbat ... or the beginning of it ... and the episode was dreamy from start to end :)))

Started with Khushi's outburst of yesterday, as to how ASR's treatment of her has hurt not just her but her family ... even when she was despairing of being rescued, her thoughts were of her family, and how her actions have caused them pain and worry ... and that was the breaking point for her in her lashing out at Arnav too, that because of him, her family has gone through tension and worry, through no fault of theirs ...

And Arnav listened and listened ... then finally had enough ... because this time ... just this time, he hadn't meant to do what he had ... and he had to get that through to her - if she would only stop yelling long enough to listen. But she didn't, she wasn't ... so he grabbed her and pinned her against the wall to shut her up ... and she goes quiet finally ... and he manages to say it ... "I did not know how unsafe it was here," leaving unspoken, 'if I had, I would not have sent you here' ... because his regret had already started, he just hadn't acknowledged it yet, that was all.

And Khushi stays quiet, but for a different reason ... she will die rather than admit she's in pain ... for her family, she lashed out at him, but her own pain she will tolerate silently, she will not show him she's weak ... but she can't stop tears of pain falling, and he feels them, and releases her wrist slowly ... revealing the broken bangle and the bleeding skin ...

And then the events of the day take over, the exhaustion, the fear, the despair, the tension ... and with the release of the pain, that adrenaline rush that had sustained her till now fades, and she faints ... right into his arms ... and he says "Khushi" hoarsely and catches her ... (but of course ... and wasn't it uncomfortable to fall like that and stay that way for the time it took him to caress her face? ... Oh well ... forget logistics, loved the scenes anyways!)

So she faints, he catches her, and then just stares at her unconscious in his arms ... pushes her hair away from her face, wipes the tears ... and then wonders briefly what he's doing ... picks her up and walks to his car ... a long slow walk ... ok, it was cheesy, but I loved it still :)

Meanwhile ASR's family is all worried about him ... and convinced he's with Lame ... sweets, Lame is very much history already, ASR isn't even thinking about her right now! Nani says if ASR dares to have a runaway marriage with Lame, she will disown him ... not that it would matter much ... the moolah is all ASR's!
Anyway, Nani also thinks Chote has gone to meet Lame ... Chote of course is on a different plane entirely!

Loved the car scene ... loved, loved, loved it ... The way Khushi was sleeping peacefully on Arnav's shoulder, and he obviously hadn't done much to push her away. He stops the car and continues to look at her for a second ... head very close to hers, as though he would kiss her if he could ... then straightens her very gently ... oh so gently ... each gesture was slow, gentle, a caress in itself as he straightened her in her seat, only pushing her away from him because he needed to get out of the car. Then he picks her up again, her head on his chest, her hand fisted in his shirt, and he looks at her as though he would be happy to hold her the whole night through. But he has to deliver her back to her family, they would be worrying, and that was what she was most worried about ... so slowly, reluctantly almost, he moves with her to the house.

Buaji and Payal run amok with questions ... is she hurt, what happened ... they see the bruises on her wrist where he held her, and are suspicious instantly. But he ignores everything they say and asks for her room ... no answer so he moves to find it himself ... and lays her down on the bed again so gently ... as though she was the most fragile thing in the universe, cradling her head in his hand as he lays it down. And as he moves back, her hand stops him, still holding his shirt. He disengages it gently ... again so gently, his eyes never leaving her face.

Then Payal figures out he's ASR ... how, I don't know ... and she gives him a tongue lashing ... not ASR's day for sure ... but he listens quietly as her words hit home ... why were you doing all this? Just so that she would break? and you would win? And her words hold up a mirror to Arnav ... he who thought he was so big and powerful, was actually such a small man ...

Bua adds her taunt ... and Arnav listens again and then leaves quietly ... to stop outside and watch as Buaji cleans Khushi's cut, and Khushi winces in her sleep.

Shyam avoids Arnav, and Anjali speaks to unknown husband on phone ...
Arnav sits in the car and realises he also got cut by Khushi's bangle ...

11/7 - Epi 27 ...Hell Hath no Fury ...

11th July

Not quite apt ... Shakepeare used this in another context entirely, but the words fit here as well ... Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned. And Arnav Singh Raizada had scorned Khushi repeatedly, time and again, insulted her for her lack of money, lack of stature, lack of everything that was important according to him. And when faced with near-death through what she perceived to be entirely his fault, Khushi turned that long-repressed fury back onto him ...

A damn well crafted episode ... had me holding my breath throughout. From the start, where the Raizada family is caught in the Lame tension, Arnav gets a call from Sinha at exactly the same time as a distraught and frantc Payal finally manages to reach the Raizada home ... as Sinha informs about the imminent collapse of the building and asks about the girl who was supposed to meet him but didn't, at exactly the same time as Mami tells Payal that if Khushi hasn't reached home yet, what are the R's to do ... as the wheels click instantly into place for Arnav and without a word he rushes out ... I rather liked the delicious irony of the entire family thinking he's upset about Lame, while he's actually caught up in someone else completely ...

Then the drive ... Arnav tense, worried, his guilt kicking in that he sent Khushi there, not only that, he didn't take Sinha's calls, compounding the problem ... contrasting with Khushi's initial desperation and then quiet despair and acceptance that she might not make it out of the building alive ...

And then Arnav reaches the building ... all is quiet, he doesn't know if Khushi is still there or not ... he rushes in, uncaring of the puddles and rough road ... and looks around, seeing with his own eyes the danger. Still quiet ... no shouting yet, no words even, he still doesn't know whether she's even there ... and then he sees her bag and the silent phone.

Loved the way he actually struggles to get the word out ... it was as though his worst nightmare was coming true and he could barely even speak ... "Khushi!" The first time her name on his lips ... just her name, not the taunting sneering 'Khushi Kumari Gupta' he always used till now ...

And Khushi is almost fainting upstairs, trapped the whole day without food or water, exhausted after her multiple desperate attempts to get out, to push the door, the window ... she's almost given up when she thinks she heard something ... someone calling her name?

"Khushi!" ... it comes again, and she comes alive, rushing to the door, calling out 'Koi hai?' ... trying again to push at it ... but nothing happens, and there is silence again ...
Maybe she imagined it after all ... the despair again, the defeat again ... as she sinks to her knees and whispers to devi maiyya for help ...

Arnav getting more and more frantic ... where is this girl, how will I find her ... he comes up to the first floor, sees the blocked door, ignores it, starts to move further up ... a rod falls somewhere ... and a scream ...
And he figures she's behind that blocked door ... like a man possessed, he struggles to clear the debris, to open the path ... finally shoulders it open ... and sees her sitting there. And she looks up and sees him ...

Then the rod moves again, he comes back to life, rushes in and pulls her to her feet, her hair falling loose as he jerks her up ... and as they stare at each other, time stops. There was a rawness, an elemental passion in that look ... no surprise, no relief, no guilt on Arnav's face, no relief, no happiness or surprise on Khushi's ... just a man and a woman looking at each other as their eyes and souls connected ...

And then he looked up again and holding her hand, pulled her behind him out of the room, just as the beam collapsed behind them. He didn't carry her then ... she's a strong woman, as strong as he is, an equal match, she made it out on her own, just holding his hand.
Loved the silence in this scene ... the authority with which Arnav grasped Khushi's hand as though he had the right to do so, the way they looked at each other ...

And then after they make it down the stairs, she shakes off his hand fiercely ... and Arnav stands there with his back to her for a minute, closes his eyes, bracing himself for the storm ... oh yes, he knew there was a storm coming, and for once he deserved it ... his guilt had kickstarted already when he saw her drenched in the rain, but this time he had endangered her life ... and the fact that he didn't do it purposely this time made no difference ... which was why when he finally turned around, his words were conciliatory ... look, I didn't know ...

And Khushi picked up his words and threw them back at his face ... you didn't know???!!! But how could you not know ... you're God, aren't you?

And each and every insult he had thrown at her, she threw back, showing how much his words had hurt, had stung and pierced her ... and Arnav Singh Raizada stood there and listened, with eyes down, because he knew he deserved it ... and only this girl had the courage to show him the mirror ... and this was the only girl he would listen to ...
But ASR can't stay down for too long ... again and again she pushed him , but the the third time, he pushed back ...
A battle of equals ... no shy retiring chupchaap sab kuch sehen karne vaali Bhartiya nari here ... and he's no perfect hero ... he's a man, flawed and imperfect, but human ... both strong fiery personalities ... and that's what makes the sparks fly ...
Sparks - hell ... it was a conflagaration today!

Edit - liked the precap ... delicious irony again - the whole family thinks Arnav has rushed to the waiting arms of Lavanya ... the guy is off on another trip entirely!

8/7 - Epi 25 ... Meet the Inlaws

8th July '11

The show is definitely picking up, and what I like is that they're tying up loose ends, the screenplay has improved and so has the editing. Last two days have been a pleasure to watch.

So the episode starts with Khushi, Payal, Bua and Shyam celebrating Payal's birthday, Shyam getting close, but Khushi don't like ... smart girl. But she's happily celebrating her sister's birthday, putting all thoughts of the unpleasant day out of her mind.
ASR on the other hand, can't. Can't stop thinking about her either. And so he has to make her life more miserable, because she's messing up his life and his mind so badly. So calls her ... and does double take at her ring tone *rofl* ... half his attitude just evaporated at that one. And the rest when Khushi blithely says, without bothering to check who's on the other end - I was waiting for your call. You haven't slept?

*rofl* no, Khushi, Arnav hasn't slept. Raaton ki neend toh tumne uda di hai, ab soyega kaise?! So he fires off instructions ... omg, ASR, so impatient to see her again, that you called her to your house early morning?
Khushi tries to protest, but has to agree. And ASR sends a typewriter ... lolzzz. Who even uses a typewriter these days?! But of course, it's all part of his challenge... make things as difficult for her as possible.

So Khushi sits and types the whole night, and Shyamji lands up helping her, while wondering what the hell is happening at the office. And he's getting more and more smitten.
And in the meantime, Arnav is having a sleepless night too ... can't get her out of my mind ... guilt, anger at that guilt, a battle within ... and the first stirrings of attraction.

Next day Khushi lands up at ASR's house and discovers that he and Anjali are brother and sister ... *rofl* meethi shehed and kadva karela ... andar aao and Get out! Anjali welcomes her, apologises for not returning her saris, Khushi informs that she now works for ASR.
Mami enters and insults Khushi again, Anjali tries to smoothen. Tells Khushi to go out to poolside, where Arnav is watering plants. K almost chokes at the thought of ASR doing anything remotely human.
Poolside ... Arnav is actually watering plants and Khushi's face shows her disbelief. She walks in, he walks towards her, trips, and for once, girl saves guy *rofl* ... typewriter is sacrificed, but its time was due anyway! And small eyelock ... Rabba ve ... and for the first time, he doesn't push her roughly away, instead releases her slowly ... and the chemistry is crackling. Khushi is the first to look away ... at the drowned typewriter lolzzz. Don't think Arnav is gonna say much about that ... it was the typewriter or him.
Anjali interrupts, wondering what is going on, Khushi says, Sir was falling, in saving him I dropped the typewriter. Arnav, male ego deeply affronted, chimes in ... you saved me? I saved you!And how the hell does Anjali know Khushi?
Rest of the scene was really cute ... funny, sweet, touching and downright hilarious in turns ... Khsuhi so nervous about what Arnav will say at every step, Arnav ki bolti band for the most part, partly by his sister and Nani, and partly by the tumult within him. Which he tries to hide by glaring at poor Khushi for everything, including when she takes over his chair, and when she sneezes at exactly the same time as him. So Anjali says 'bless you, dono ko' ... and Nani asks 'did you also get wet in the rain like Arnav did?' Course she did ... because of him ... And they look at each other ...fb's of last night ...

Precap - Nani finally finds someone to spill the beans about Lame. And Khushi is soooo gonna be in trouble.

7/7 - Epi 24 .. The struggle within

7th July

The struggle within the Beast finally starts. ASR vs Arnav ... man vs beast ... ego, pride and arrogance vs the first stirrings of ? Not love yet, no ... attraction? a strange tug, a pull yet unexplained ... why can't he get her out of his mind?

The rest of the episode was good too ... the pace of the show is picking up slowly and steadily.

6/7 - Epi 23 ...The Beast - how deep can you sink?

6th July

A dark love story indeed! How deep can you sink, ASR? And the torment buried deep in your soul is making you lash out at a girl helpless and powerless in front of your cruelty. She'll bend to your will ... but she won't break. And you can't break her ... and that's what makes you roar louder and louder, become crueller and crueller. Because every time she makes a dent in that ice encasing your heart, you're scared, and you run to give it a deeper coat. Which she cracks again ... and again.

Will have to do a marathon catch up comment session at some point - till then, just the links.

5/7 - Epi 22 ... The thaw begins

5th July

The last Arshi scene will need some writing ... so will edit later. Just in passing ... am glad they didn't make it the stereotyped 'guy sees girl looking hot and falls for her immediately' kind of thing. And even gladder to see Arnav back immediately into sadu avtar ... and the precap showed just the slightest change in tone. Now let's see how they take it.

4/7 - Epi 21 ... Beauty and the Beast - Beast losing it!

4th July 2011

First office scene ... in terms of acting, fun to watch, Khushi asking Arnav - did you forget your name? Arnav smirking again, the whole byplay of Khushi dropping the bundle on Arnav's lap, his picking them up and handing them over exasperatedly ...
In terms of content ... forgetting his name is a small matter, is Arnav forgetting his brains? What on earth is making Khushi cross out all the extra a's going to achieve exactly? Would he ever use those letters with things crossed out by hand? Wouldn't it have been smarter to get her to type the letter again and stand over the printer to take a thousand printouts? If the only objective is to waste her time, this was the most pointless of jobs - especially considering he's paying her for her time.
Oh well, they say gusse mein buddhi bhrasht ho jaati hai ... Arnav ki buddhi toh ghas charne gayi!

AR house - another pooja??? Anjali really needs to be packed off to her sasuraal - this separation from her husband is addling her brains. Seems to be a common trait in the Raizada household - addled brains, I mean. Anyway, her hubby dear is finally coming home. Now is he Shyam/Dhruv/yet another person? Anjali complains Arnav has no time to eat her food ... of course not, honey, he's too busy eating Khushi's bheja!

SP (one of them) asks Lame a question I've been wondering about myself ... is Khushi Lame's assistant or ASR's? Random bitchy model enters, and Arnav finds yet another useless job for Khushi - make her a coat hanger. And he's paying her for doing all this? Remember what I said about gussa making buddhi bhrasht ... *rofl*

Random Raizada women scene - nami, mami and pujarin ... I'm liking Mami more and more! Snatching forty winks when she can. Woman after my own heart ... let other people do the work, me gonna rest!

Ufff ... I officially hate ASR ... Hitler ka baap! Palkein bhi nahin jhapkana, baithna bhi nahin ... how on earth will Khushi ever fall for him? I hope he goes through a long, loooong period of torment before she even starts to soften ... and there had better be a damn good reason for her to change her mind about him! Am looking forward to the jhatka he's gonna get with the Woman in Red.
Bimbo duo in action, spill juice over the coat ... ditto feelings for them, hope they suffer lots and lots too! and get kicked out on their backsides.
Shyam preparing for Payal's birthday, then takes off for the night. Hmm.

Psycho model in action ... reminded me of Ani,ani woman in SGP ... goes berserk over her Paris coat, and then stomps out. And Arnav tells Khushi to model in short blue dress in her place. Did the dress change color? In the promo it was white. And methinks Arnav is far more bothered about Khushi and what she did or didn't do than about consoling his rather demented model.
So Lady in Red comes tomorrow ... hopefully ...

I know that ASR is supposed to look grim and serious and all that ... but honestly, he needs to vary his expressions just a little bit! He just had one expression on his face throughout the bulk of the episode - except for the smirk at the start. Let's hope the thaw brings some more expressions on his face ... from his ads, he can act ...

And from the SBS and SBB segments, am sure that BS must have been cracking up at Sanaya's expressions at the start of the episode, esp the part when Khushi asks ASR - did you forget your name?

1/7/11 - Epi 20 Next round

First thing which struck me when I watched Arnav's eyes pop out as he read the letter - he wasn't so shocked that Khushi had done the work, as he was that ANYONE in his office actually could work at all!!! Or he should be ... considering the namoonas he has collected there.

Anyway, Khushi, being the naive gal she is, happily told him how she had managed the challenge, probably expecting a pat on her back, and an admonition to Lavanya, to the effect that See? Use your brains, don't keep complaining about my dictation speed. But of course, ASR did nothing of the sort - getting his work done has become secondary to beating Khushi in the challenge. God help his office during these fifteen days ... though actually, not really. In the process of the challenges, he might actually get some work done - if he uses his brain in forming those challenges, that is.
And really, which office uses shorthand these days? Digital recorders are the order of the day - most bosses dictate their letters into a dictaphone while travelling, and hand it over to their secretaries in office. Guess AR hasn't caught up with the times yet!

Why is Akash working from home? I use the term 'working' loosely!

And why is ASR getting annoyed at Lame? Because she forgot to inform him Khushi has a brain and can actually work? Tsk tsk, ASR, Lame doesn't recognise what work is, so how could she have told you that? Can see ASR recalculating rapidly in his mind - he has to step up the dirty quotient if he wants to get rid of Khushi. And win his challenge.

Khushi back home, soooo reminded me of my baby when she comes home all excited about something! :))) And damn cute, the way she promptly asks Bua - pump lekar aaun? after half squeezing her to death! And the worry in her face when Bu says someone from the office has come, followed by swift chirpy - over-chirpy recovery - 'nahin toh ... now this is a normal, regular 18 year old girl!

Rather like the way both Khushi and Payal are not falling all over Shyam ... he's sweet-talked his way into Bua's good books, but Khushi and Payal are not as naive. Surprisingly. Payal is uncomfortable, and Khushi frankly asks him, are you stalking me? *rofl*

ASR at home, still pissed off with life in general, and with his defeat. And Anjali trying to hide Lavanya from Nani ... but whyyy???

Set up for Payal's birthday - I enjoy the sisters' scenes here soooo much more than MJHT! And Khushi's parents are refreshingly normal parents ... like the way Garima accepted her husband's reassurance about Shyam, but was clearly not happy about it at all.

Perfectionist Anjali in kitchen ... she's gonna be one nit-picking nanad! Silbatta??? Really??? Arey baba, labout saving devices were invented for a reason. I begin to feel sorry for mami! Anjali's perfection is getting a bit much!
Arnav is waiting for Khushi ... hmm, she seems to have spiced up his life already. And now he's getting mean ... win at all costs.

Maryada continues to grip me ... excellent acting, the showdown between Gaurav and SSP, Devyani's helplessness ...
The road to hell is paved with good intentions ... Devyani, you have to stop protecting your son in your pallu. You have no right to destroy another girl's life to protect your son from your husband. Lies leading to more lies to more ... And Devyani still hopes that Gaurav will change? That it was his father's behaviour with him that made him that way. While Bauji realises that Gaurav is the way he is, the way God made him, the way he will always be.
Vidya's acting ... again, very, very good. Desperation, dread, grief, anger ... helplessness.

30/6 - Epi 19 ... Khushi - the loss of something precious

Yes, Khushi lost today ... or started to lose ... something very precious. The carefree innocent confidence of childhood, the childlike belief in the goodness of the world, her faith in humanity ... Khushi took her first step into an adult world today, and a painful step it was. Even though Khushi has been through tragedy in her life, the biggest tragedy a child can face, the loss of her parents, the status of an orphan with no one to call her own, but she's been cushioned from that pain by her new family, by an Ammaji who's strict but loving, by a babuji who dotes on her, who tells her that 'dil ke rishte khoon ke rishton se bade hote hain', reassuring her in so many words that no, she's not alone, by her jiji, who's always there for her, her unflinching (even if somewhat weak) support, even a Buaji, who even through her taunts, is still there as a family member. So Khushi has learnt to live with her pain, not just live with it, but smile with it, laugh through it, bury her insecurities deep and face the world with a smile ... because although she's lost a lot, she's gained something too, and she'd rather focus on the positives, than moan about the negatives.

But today Khushi couldn't do that. Flung suddenly into a world where people are not kind, where people laugh at her, make fun of her just because she's different ... that line she spoke to Shyam on the phone stung me deeply ... Added to which, she thought that all she had to do was to prove to Arnav that she could work, and he would change his opinion of her ... she never realised that he had taken this as a personal vendetta. All she was bothered about was clearing her name, which had been smirched time and again, wrongly, unfairly ... But when had this become a personal battle? And an unfair one ... ASR holds all the winning cards, he has the power, the strength, the backing of his termites (that's the office staff) ... all she has is her brain and her faith ... Which she needs, more than ever.
So yes, Khushi won the first battle ... but she lost something much more precious. She lost her innocence. And began the slow painful journey into adulthood, and into the real world. And she lost two things which defined her. Her nonstop chatter ... Khushi had not a single dialogue in the second half of the episode. Her eyes, her body language did all the talking.
And Khushi lost her smile.

On the other hand, Arnav - and the opposing polarity of their natures. Arnav has lost too, probably the same as Khushi ... his parents, he's an orphan too. But he's luckier than Khushi, he still has a family he can call his own, related by ties of blood, those who love him ... Yet his attitude is so different. He hates the world, hates it for what it took away from him, and never turns to look at what he still has. He's lost his faith in anything good, anything positive. The classic case of the optimist and the pessimist looking at the glass - one sees it as half-empty, the other as half full.

But why does he hate Khushi so much? What is this vendetta he has against her? And a very personal one - no one else (read Lame) can say a word to her. That right is reserved for himself, and himself alone. Maybe dimly he already sees in her, someone his equal, someone he has to battle with, to defeat, or else she will defeat him. A threat. Not to his power. But to his own self, to the Arnav he has built up carefully over the years, the one who defeats and destroys everyone else, who doesn't allow defeat to come anywhere near him. He's made victory a habit ... and this slip of a girl is not going to break that habit. Although he already knows somewhere deep inside him - she may be the only one who can.
